The Islamic New Year, Ras as-Sana<\/i>, falls on the first day of the month of Muharram. This year it’s November 27 of the Gregorian calendar and begins the year 1433 A.H. (Muslims date their calendar from the Hijra or Hegirah, the Prophet Muhammad’s flight from Mecca to escape an assassination plot.)<\/p>\n
