All my just friends are all right. No creepy friends to report today.

No, scratch that.

Evan is creepy. And gay. Gay is one thing, but a creepy gay is another. Let me name them:

M-wears bright yellow flipflops, and styles hair all spiky and back, and calls everybody ‘yo whazzup my homies’ with no accent

E-hug/humps people (it’s hard to tell which) and thinks he’s so awesome and pushes people in the hallways, ignoring the fact he’s at least a foot shorter than the second smallest person in seventh grade

S-puts soap dispensers in…different…places. Nuff said

don’t know his first name-extreme racist

S#2-lays on that huge green arobic ball in gym and poses like a pr0n star and smiles creeply at people and calls everyone gay, including me who (as of yesterday) has a girlfriend

Yeah, so I stay away (when possible) from these people.

The lesbians/bi peoples are not creepy at ALL. I have so many bi friends now.

Harg! *pies beavo for getting first post* I hope you continue to post here!

So here’s my situation, re-posted so you don’t have to look for the past posts…

I have “known” (if you consider barely speaking ever to someone ‘knowing’) someone for probably three years nearly now. She doesn’t regulary come to the place I ever see her. She is shy, but most of my other friends were shy to start out with. My question probably seems rather pointless now, but is there anything I should be doing to sort of “speed” the friendship process along? In a matter of weeks there will be another two-month period during which I definitely won’t see her.

People are so busy and crazy nowadays it’s hard to get to know people. Especially when you rarely see them.

Leh sigh. I have a feeling I’ll be in college by the time I can actually say she is a good friend.

In case this really doesn’t work, what should I do about my very shy male friends? It’s so crazy when people say you need to go to public school to be social. I can’t get these people to speak!

I’ve got to go, but I hope people won’t abandon this thread!

I have creepy ~~raceist~~ discrimitory peeps at my school. THey go around calling people Jews. i.e. Hey stop being a Jew and come up here. Talk to me you Jew. Go F*$% a Jew. Yeah. (end i.e.) I have no friends. *Realizes sad truth* *is sad* Then again, I did move away from all of my old friends. Everyone I know at my new school is redneck, raceist, or has to short an attensionspan to have a conversation about ANYTHING for more than five seconds. Really I’ll just be talking to them and they stop listening to me.

I think that non-romantic relationships are a very touchy subject for a lot of people. Just last night was my second school dance, and I danced with a girl that was just a friend, and I really hopes that she understands that because I think she likes me and I don’t want to break her heart. My friends are all understanding, and I hope that she will be like that. *sigh…*

I wont abandon this thread, its a good way for people to get advice, so here’s some from personal experience:

I had been going out with this girl for a while, and then my best friend (who is also friends with this past girlfriend, and is a guy) told me that she wanted to kiss me! I wasn’t ready for that, and wanted to break up with her. I was so worried that I would hurt her, I wrote her a zillion page sob story. I could tell that she was weirded out, and when i was finally finished, she said, “Ya know, ‘It’s over’ does just as good!”

Moral of the story: Don’t write sob stories.

I’m going over to a “Just Friend” who everyone thought I was going out with. We’ve know eachother since we were born, (literally, she was born eight says before me) and we know more than a GF/BF should know about eachother. *askward*

Oy vey. My friends and I have been drifting lately. Part of the problem is that I’m in Honors and AP classes, and most of my friends aren’t, and I haven’t ever found it particularly easy to be friends with most of the smart kids. So I usually get to see my friends in the morning before classes start. Also, my friend Shelby actually has a real boyfriend instead of an online one, so I’m feeling left out. Especially at lunch, where there’s Dan and his girlfriend, and then Shelby and her boyfriend. I get just a little bit lonely/jealous when I’m sitting there. ANy advice about that?

w00t! The party last night was funny. It was mostly us running back and forth in a dark room with glow sticks and silly string while playing creepy music and operating a fog machine. I’m very stiff and my voice is slightly scratchy from screaming like a four-year-old, but it was fun…

Today was also a great day for talking to one of my male friends, as there was confusion and we parked where we used to park but now they are parking somewhere else, so we ended up getting to where everyone else was 30 minutes late. But, that meant I got to talk to the one friend more.

I don’t think I actually said one word to the girl, but it was all confusing and weird becuase we had to settle in after getting there late becuase of weird instructions. And then her mom was annoying about us being late after she didn’t explain things well. And the girl herself wasn’t pleasant even in the time there was.

I’m thinking this might be a lost cause. Must continue searching, or at least trying to get VERY quiet guy to talk more.

Well, I may not have romantic issues because of a lack of life, but I do have friendship problems which I do not care to relate because I can figure out what to do on my own. I think. So yeah.
Getting quiet people to talk more: ask open-ended questions. Find out what they like to do and talk about that. Eventually they’ll open up. (Trust me, I know. I used to be shy.)

This is INSANE. I can’t continue trying so hard to get to know quiet girl. I must work on quiet boy! At least he’s occasionally there instead of almost never. Does that sound better? Not much to me either, but anything is better.

If Kagy and I didn’t live in different countries (maybe even if we lived in the same state) both our problems would be over! Not to brag that I’m an interesting person, but yeah.

But I’m already in a better situation, I have a muser close by…but if we could somehow get all of the mbers in one area!

Unintended Pun

24-I wish I lived near MBers. My school has a myspace-esque thing that is only for the school and the domain name involves our mascot which is a type of bird. I have a Monty-Python related name and under my interests it says my MB name. Hopefully someone will get the hint if they go to my school and have one of those. I don’t think anyone I’ve met at school comes on here.

I made up with my previous best friend. Last year we had a huge argument and didn’t talk most of the year but we’re friends again! Yay!

I have a guyfriend who I like but he likes my friend. I’m not supposed to know and neither is she. His friend told her because he’s head over heels for her like half the freshmen at my school. I’m so jealous of my friend. Every guy I like ends up liking her. Grrr.

Ok, so I have this friend, and she was awesome last year, but over the summer she changed alot. Now she thinks that any beliefs that she doesnt beleive are stupid, and just thinks she is the best. She is always teasing me about being a vegetarian and what I eat, and flat out just tells people I am one, and I think I should be the one to tell them, and I may not want them to know. She is also very religious, which isnt bad, but she has been suggesting very strongly that me and my friends beleifs are wrong, and has teased us for believing in evolution. She also disagrees when it comes to politics, which would be fine, except once again she thinks we are stupid or something. And she is always gloating about her team, what they are doing, what they are learning, it is very hurtful, and we (my friends and I) dont know what to do. HELP! P.S. every time we try to talk to her she gets really immature and makes up excuses.

I am really bad at advice, sorry!!!

OMG same situation. My friend G does that and she thinks she’s all popular and crap. My 2 other BFF at school, E and K are like her minions, and do whatever she says. Unfortunately, that most of the time involves excluding me. Yesterday, for instance, we were gonna go on a bike ride together and meet at the school. When I got there, it was deserted. I rode over to E’s house to see if we had canceled orsomething, and guess what?They were all there, eating cupcakes and laughing. ARG! I stayed, against their will.

Well the freind that I was talking about keeps siding with our other friend becuase she can sense that we are mad at her. She keeps saying that WE are best friends now and that we dont want anything to do with her and our other friend, which is NOT TRUE. She told my friend to forget about their friendship becuase she didnt think they were good friends anymore, just becuase we sat together at lunch that day to check our math homework because we didnt know if we did it right. It made my friend cry, and the friend who told her that just ignored her and acted really immature, and then said oh, well I dont know why I did that, I was just in a bad mood. Its just like, grow up, if you keep doing that we wont want to be your friend anymore, you cant just take advantage of our friendship like that. GOSH.

36-I had a similarish situation, but not making fun of beliefs etc. A girl that was a very nice person I knew for about a year moved several states away. It was sad at the time, as she was one of my best friends. Then she came back for a couple of days, and again, etc because her mom wanted to see people in the area.

Whoa, talk about a change. Not talking to me much at all, weird and annoying around me, hitting me on the head with stiff styrofoam (she somehow made it feel like a cinder block though)

Anyway, she doesn’t come very often at all now, so that’s good. I’m not sure what happened to her, though, as she moved back to the same neighborhood near the same people as she had lived near several years before.

In FDS, I happened to be sitting next to quiet girl, and when annoying girl came in late, she sort of forced her way between us, which I then found odd since she hadn’t been especially pleasant. Then quiet girl scowled at her.

At least the boys are straightforward. I think I may be forced to stick with them for the time being.

Ah, well, *eats chocolate*

mW , mA, and A all know each other. mW likes me. I think A also likes me but I’m not sure. mA already has a girlfriend (I think). I dyed my hair blue. I havn’t seen mW yet. mA has stopped talking to me to the point of not even greeting me. A asked what the (pick favorite expletive)?!
How do I get mA to talk to me. Especially since I don’t get to talk to A very much and he has my hat. mA and A have the same classes together. if A gives the hat to mA, I can get the hat back. But mA doesn’t talk to me.

49- I went back to read your post, and found it kinda confusing. Could you reword it using the tried-and-true letter system? (i.e., friend 1 is A, 2 is B, etc.) All the friends got pretty confusing.

53- So, A is conspiring against everybody, it looks like. If someone acts so mean one day, then says that she was just in a bad mood, it’s probably more than that. I guess it depends on what A is normally like. If she’s prone to outbursts or something like that, then I’d believe her, but still keep an eye on her. But, if she’s normally really nice (or at least she’s nice most of the time), then I’d say it’s more than a mood. I hate going to someone’s parents, but if she’s nice most of the time you might have to. Ask if there’s something that she’s having a rough time with. Normally, a person’s parents know them better than they do.
Well, that’s pretty much all I can think of. Sorry it’s not more, I had braces put on today and they hurt so badly! (the headgear doesn’t help) Maybe I can help more when I have my head not in pain.

OK, the other day,they asked me if i wanted to go on a bikeride, and so i said yeah. Later, they told me they had cancelled. well, i walked to the school at the time we were going to meet, just to check and guess what? they were all there.

MissSwan-Ew! Maybe I’m not understanding the situation fully, but have they explained thier meanness? I mean, did they just shrug it off or not say anything? That is really mean. Had these people been good friends and they changed, or are you just getting to know them? It’s hard to tell what to do, ignore them or annoy them by making sure you get to do what they are doing. I guess I’d say whichever is easier/will annoy them more, but the second part might not be right and just be a result of me being angry at them.

45-Um…Has he said if there is anything in particular that you say/do that makes him feel that way?

I might have solved my dilemma for now, at least:

Quiet girl never comes and is just too quiet to even begin.

Quiet boy Sometimes comes but is just too quiet to even begin with.

Medium-quiet boy comes most of the time, and seems quite hopeful, so I think I’ll work on him for a bit. Which isn’t hard, when you consider the fact that most other people don’t come or are too quiet.

No, I’ve been friends with them since kindergarten. One day, Gab decidded to wake up and be horrible, just because Carly said she was kinda popular. I’ve talked to the counselor, because she’s been being mean to some ofmy heavier friends and the counselor hasn’t done anything because the school is afraid of being sued! That makes me infuriated, because it’s against the law to bully at me school.

Okay, Beavo’s Dilemma Time!

My best friend is being really immature and annoying to other friends, and it’s embarrising. Per ejemplo, we were in GT and we were making a hill out of paper (?) and she started cutting little peices of green paper all over someone’s hair. That someone was my friend too, and my best friend and I hang out a lot, so now he thinks we conspired against him to get paper grass in his hair. I know this is totally random and confusing, but that’s why I need help! HELP

*Deep Breath* Here goes: I have been BFF to three grils since 3rd grade, we were inseperable. Now there’s Kat: Super smart but not at all popular, she has another BFF now but still aproaches me in school, Kay: Got kinda popular but (being the geek that i am) doesn’t hav time for me anymore, still hangs w/ J sometimes, J the most popular doesn’t talk to me anymore unless its a “Tell me wat you got for number 4, don’t bother to explain” question. I still try to make contact with every single one of them because ( however gooky this sounds) they are my only friends my age. I feel like the only one trying to only the Four Musketeers together. I say onl one my age becuase im good friends with a freshman but i don’t want to be too clingy. I believe in my heart that MBers can give good advice, so share the wealth plz and help me….

Poor greekgurl. My answer to all of my socially related difficulties: HANG OUT WITH THE GUYS. They don’t make fun of you, and you can laugh about the stupid things they say. I am the only girl that plays football/soccer/kickball/the pounding game on the field, and Jake, Killian, and Zack are much nicer than Gabby, Katie, and Emily.

Girls need to realize, it gets “uber” boring when just boys hang out together. They don’t know what to say, and it’s just random and boring, basically. From what you girls are saying, it isn’t so, but from the boy’s side it looks like you are having a better time. But at this age, we aren’t likely to risk going too far trying to socialize with groups of girls, or try to get girls who don’t seem to be in a “girl social group” into any boy “groups”. It’s weird to think of it as groups, but it basically is..

Why won’t we risk it, or try? Because other boys might think we are trying to find a girlfriend. Yes, little lame social things like that get in the way of friendships. Maybe boys who wish they had girlfriends, are immature, or like making fun of you would have some “problem” with you talking too much to girls.

I know it’s pathetic. And sad. But maybe it will be better later in the teen years (but I have some doubts)

So this is the whole reason I was trying to befriend quiet girl. I don’t know, because I haven’t been able to talk to her, but she might be in a similar situation as you.

I feel like I could tip over a tractor-trailer. Quiet girl might not be possible to talk to enough, but I shall continue! *plays triumphant music*

On the subject of creepy friends:
a guy in my class (A) usually wears tripp pants and chains and such. Fairly nice guy, not a freak at all. Two guys in the back of the class were fighting. Sort of. The kind of fight involving two guys hitting eachother with binders. Only one didn’t have a binder. He borrowed a chain from A and pretended to whip the other guy with the handcuff end. The guy with the chain asked A where he got it. A ‘splains that it came from his pants. Guy with the chain drops it as if contaminated. A explains that it came from the outside of his pants leg. Guy who previously had the chain was not reassured.

A is asked why he had a chain with a handcuff on the end of it. some random bystander : makes you wonder what he does to his girlfriend? someone else: so that’s why she’s absent!

I’ve been hanging with girls since first grade. Most of my best friends are girls, but not popular ones, and not nerds either. In between, I guess. It helps because they all know eachother and I can get a girlfriend’s info easier. And plus, like Hawk said, it’s boring talking about Mario and Eminem all day.

Belive it or not, I have a purse. *gasps* I don’t carry it around or anything, I keep it in my room. No, I’m not all girly and frilly and walk like my hip’s broken. No band aids in your backpacks/purses? Well, duct tape, and if you had a tissue and you were in a pinch (or a cut or scrape) you could duct tape the tissue to yourself, but it wouldn’t come off well, even in the shower!

Wellwell, tomorrow there will be no heat in the building, meaning a fire in the fireplace. If everyone does what they should, they will all be there, but that isn’t likely.

Hanging out with opposite gender-definitely a good idea, just a little difficult at these ages. *HAWK keeps going* *slows down, and puts in energizer battery*

In this class, quiet girl is pretty much the only girl my age. There are a couple a year younger, but they don’t come very often and don’t seem to be any more social or interesting either. These people just bog themselves down with so many other things they don’t even have time to come to church and socialize!

I’m not putting this on the christmas thread, because it is really about who is playing what, so please bear with me people who don’t like christmas!

I’m a reader. Mediumish boy is a reader. Younger girl A is Mary. Younger girl B is the lead angel. Quiet boy is….Joseph! Which is the position he should get considering how long he has been coming. Quiet girl…Didn’t come, again, getting annoying…which means mary was grabbed up when it is her last possible year to be Mary. She refused when she had a chance last year too. Very strange.

Younger girl B was annoying and trying to steal my sunglasses and leaning on my shoulder and standing on my foot.

Younger girl A was reserved but still friendly.

By younger I just mean a year, but meaning they still have a year to get better positions in the pageant if they wanted to wait.

Quiet girl will do probably one of three things:

Just not come and thus avoid the pageant entirely.
Be a reader despite the fact she doesn’t speak very loudly and she has to be heard in a big room.
Think there isn’t anything she can do but go to another grade and do something there.

My closet. More like solid block of junk. My closet used to be walk in, but now if you walk in you have to be ghostie because I certainly haven’t managed it in three years. And I don’t feel like breaking my neck trying to clean it out.

DEAD THREAD NOOO COME BACK TO LIFE WAHH!!!!!!!

If it does come back, hopefully we can keep things relatively on track. Perhaps we could start with…*brushes crumbs off shirt and trys to look respectable* me

I shall now describe my situation fully and (hopefully) understandably, all in one post, so that the reasons for my advice seeking are fully understood.

I do not go to public school. And shudder to think what sort of faintly intelligent (or not even that) beings I would meet if I did. However, because I do not go to the same place day after day, I am forced to find somewhere I can go to relatively frequently, find relatively intelligent beings, and hope friendships work out.

This is not easy, and if I was as shy as some of you claim to be I wouldn’t have any young friends at all. And because it’s difficult to even start a normal friendship (not just someone you meet for one day and then never see again, as some homeschoolers claim is perfectly acceptable instead of an actual friendship), you may now realize why I have been absent on the romance thread. Even any faint leaning toward radical teen love angst has been obliterated.

The place I (as one of the only who do) regularly go is church, and the only others remotely near my age who find time in their busy public school lives to come much are boys. That’s great, and they are great friends, but………Break up the gender groups, people! The blog is mostly girls, and you are all c00l, so what about some who live near me?

And many of you consider yourselves shy. And why wouldn’t truly (muse-type) cool people be shy, the rest of the world isn’t cool but thinks it is and so makes you feel as if you aren’t cool. Homeschooling has kept me out of that hopeless loop, so I am probably a rare case of (I don’t mean to brag about myself here ) a non-shy cool person.

*trumpets blast* So that, my friends, is my sad tail. Thus this whole bit about “Quiet girl” and whatnot. Oh, it is pathetic, isn’t it. This is more of a rant, but I didn’t know if people would want to read my post there and help me here, so I did not post this on the rants thread.

And the thing is, I cannot be sure quiet girl is truly this cool interesting person inside. My mother says she thought quiet boys were interesting and nice truly, but they never were, so that is another thing to consider.

And shy girl bloggers–how do you think you look to people you do not talk to much, is there a difference between boring people whose brains snuck off while they watched tv (find that in this week’s comics, really!) and people who wish another interesting person would bump into them?

Which I admit is quite flattering, but now I’m wondering if it’s just me who has all these close-ish guy friends……

Public School is really not that bad. Unless you happen to go to mine of course. It looks like a jail and was designed by the same guy that did MA State Penitentiary. One of the hallways smells like weed and i dont kno if it was kids or teachers. The boy’s bathrooms are gross and there’s all kinds of “misses” all over the place. But there is a nice wall of grafiti that signifies who did who’s mom/YHFfriend. (i cant type the g word). The desks have various band logos/gang logos (we have a bunch of gangs)/ maps of Middle earth. There are 750 kids in 6-8, and the student/teacher ratio is 15 kids per teacher. I don’t know why our school is so outrageously ghetto. I live in a nice, suburban white boring middle class district. And my town is very historical. I can’t say the name cuz it would get zapped, but its where

The New yorkers come up in September to see the leaves, and i’m so glad those leafers are gone. the leafers are so annoying to us new englanders because THERE YANKEES FANS ARRGH! Then in april, the Japanese come to see the Reenactment of the battle of
[Zap again].

And also busloads of old people. IF you want to see the reenactment, you have to wake up at like 330 in the a.m. becuz thats when it happened.

Beavo (120) – My elementary/middle school had about 250 people and it was K-8. My high school has about 500 people. My grade is the smalles–there are only 12 Literary Arts Sophomores.

Ok so today we were walking out of school and my friend is like “so I have this crush on a guy, but he is an athiest, he doesnt believe in God” (dont bring a fight to this thread please!) and my other friend (B) gasps. And just to tell everyone my parents dont believe in God, so they think that I dont, but I dont know what I believe. So after B gasps I like totally wanted to explode, because what is wrong with others beliefs? So now I dont know what to do because apparently none of my friends know that my family doesnt go to church and doesnt beleive in God. WHAT DO I DO?

I go to a public school and there are plenty of intelligent people there. In fact, we rank highly in the state in many academic competitions, and our main competitor in those is another public school even though there are plenty of private schools who compete.

NO, no, I in no way meant to say all public schools are bad, but I would of course have to go to the one in my county, and from what I have heard it is overcrowded (i. e. who knows, at least a third of the population learning in trailers) and they do not teach things well. And not even just in an evolution standpoint, just general stuff. And the people where I live are strange anyway. Not the kind of friends I would like to meet.

126-Dancergirl, I assume you go to public school. You are probably dealing with similar people as I would be if I went in my county. Religious beliefs shouldn’t have anything to do with friendship, but I know you cannot just lose every last friend just to prove a point about beliefs That is a difficult situation. Proud Public Schoolers, please step up and help her! She seems to always be having to cope ith some situation with these stupid kids…*pies the stupid kids at dancergirl’s school*

But because people have these weird ideas, meeting people at my meeting seems like a bonus too, right?

So quiet kids: You think there is no difference between quiet smart people and silly stupid people? I think smart people would have some sort of hint of life in there, but maybe the defining line is fuzzy…

And Kagy-It was that comic, and this week they continued it. I wasn’t saying all public school people are that way, but there are enough people for who it is true that it makes it difficult to tell who is actually nice. Also, you have the overwhelming benefit of being in Canada, not as crowded and thus fewer annoying people overall!

Potato chip should come to this thread, I saw her somewhere saying she wishes she could just be friends with guys without people bugging her about liking them or something…

129- you call them trailers? up here we call them portables! there may be less people (?) but the majority of the population lives close to the boarder. although Canada is a huge country no one much really lives in the more northernly areas. because it’s cold and inconveniant i guess but we are still an awesome country. except for the anoying children. RE:pearls before swine: up here we’re already up to the part about the chihuahua who wants to travel.

139- actualy canadians aren’t verry polite anymore (atleast only a few whom i’ve met are polite) and there are a lot of hostilities towards vegetarians. In my family i’m the oly vegetarian and my brother is a meat lover. an example of a dinner conversation in my house goes as such.

One week from now is practice. I am just waiting for there to be some big problem of some kids not having parts. Well, they should have come when they knew we were choosing parts, obviously. Somehow quiet girl might not have been the best person for Mary, though, if she planned on wearing as many sequins as usual. I suppose that is a bit of an exaggeration, but still…

Andrew has a female friend (M), and a male friend (S). Now, Andrew’s friend M has a very big crush on S. It’s almost pathetic, actually; think sweet, innocent puppy-dog. S has no feelings whatsoever for M, he thinks she’s a little strange. M is a very nice person, all PETA-inclined animal activist. S is a geeky, scrawny, high-voiced guy (note that Andrew’s not insulting him, this is his own self-description). Andrew is good friends with both. What should he do? M is obviously not going to do anything (she’s on the shy side), and S is too un-social to notice anything. M is going to be hurt, badly, if she likes him like this for much longer. Andrew can feel that something’s going to happen soon, and it’s not going to be good. Possibly with no effect on S, but M will be crushed. Andrew doesn’t want M going emo. That would be very bad. Help?

Damn. The computer messed up in French this morning >.much they mean to me.
The reason why I say this is because I have had an emotionally turbulent past couple of weeks, partly because of my significant other and partly because of a friend of mine who is messing herself up (can you say “Advil”?). Not only do I need someone to (literally) cry on because of what my boyfriend did, but also because I care an incredible amount for my friend who is messing herself up, and I do not want to lose her, so it’s good to have someone to talk to about it. There have been three people who have been incredibly helpful with these things, but two that I will particularly focus on, because it enters the realm beyond generally Friends to the clarification of “Just Friends.”

One is a guy I met through musical (he was a lead/honourary techie, I was a techie) and we bonded in various theatre ways. He’s kind of crazy, and more of a friend to have a good time with and get a hug from than spill all of your feelings to. I mean, I still trust him, but not as much as I trust some of my closer friends, you know? It’s that kind of a thing.
Now, all of my theatre friends are upperclassmen, and due to the freshman academy system, I have no classes with them, or usually near them. However, I recently discovered that this particular guy (a senior) has a class down the hall from mine during our second hour. So, for the past week, I have been visiting him before class to say hello and get a hug. The people in my class are rather uninteresting and tend to test my patience, and, I guess, we don’t have the same bond as me and my theatre friends do. Working on a theatrical production for weeks on ends bonds you like little else. Anyway, even seeing him in the morning makes my day. I don’t like him, even in a tiny way (our meeting in the hall every day tend to goad people into thinking otherwise), but he has been so helpful to me, even to just read my long, ranting emails (he did want to know what was wrong) and give me hugs. It is just simply great to see him every day, helped by the fact that I don’t have to skip class to do so.

My theatre buddies I am especially close to, but mostly this one in particular. I mean, I can spill to her and get snot and tears on her sweatshirt and it won’t be incredibly awkward. I say, “incredibly”, because the reason why I was crying on her was because well…my boyfriend cheated on me. However, that is another tale for another thread. On with the show. I say “incredibly” because, even though she’s dating somebody else and I’m dating somebody else, I think we kinda like each other. Not like each other as in, “what am I doing dating this guy, I want to date you”, or as in, “gosh, I like you both, I’m torn”, or as in, “I want to get into your pants if it’s the last thing I do”…no, just as in, “you’re kinda cute and kinda sweet and kinda weird in a delightful sort of way and I kinda like you and don’t mind sitting in your lap or holding hands with you.” Just a little, almost second-grade type of crush.
And I know that we both like each other in that, tiny, cute sort of way, because well…she said that if she wasn’t dating her boyfriend that she would want to date me. And I think that that loudly implies that she likes me, if just a little, more than a friend. However, I do think that we like each other just as friends more than anything, and that it’s not giving us second thoughts about our serious relationships (in terms of who we want to be with).

And yes, I am bi.

Here’s an idea: when you MBers feel a need to swear, why don’t you just shout out “Euphemism!”? The only drawback is that it sounds a bit like a sneeze.

Hmm… What’s the opposite of pie? What if, when you got annoyed, you said “Cake!”? I think that would make a good oath. “Oh, cake! I blew it.” I think that has potential.

HAWK= never swearing, or using euphemisms, really. If something really hurts (even like, falling off bike and scraping half of arm off, like this past summer.) I start roaring at the top of my lungs making all sorts of odd dinosaur-like growls and “ahhhhhhhh”s. And usually “OWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW OWW!!!!!!” in there too. Yeah, strange it may seem, I know I don’t generally blend in with what’s expected of the modern teen

143-That sometimes becomes necessary, but I don’t want to do that to all of them.

Wellllllll……..last week there was supposed to be a party with quiet and medium boy and their families, but other people forgot and said to have it this saturday instead of last. I don’t know if that will happen either.

Meanwhile, a party is scheduled for over two weeks from now, with the girl who moved away and seems different now in attendance.

You know, I have a feeling that some of these people are having romance problems and so HAWK on Sunday isn’t high on their list of people to worry about. For example, they may be fine around friends they see every day, but don’t really care to be friendly so much on Sunday, but rather think about their problems. I doubt this is the case with quiet or medium boy (although I suppose it could be, they have never said they are still in non-romance mode) but maybe more of quiet girl, girl-who-moved-away, or a few of the others who very seldom show up. Just a thought…

I like swearing, a lot…sorry for being too loudly uncensored for your tastes, GAPA. And I have tried shouting “EUPHEMISM” before, but it’s not quite the same…which is probably the point of shouting it.

155– Seriously, that is kinda strange. Maybe it’s just cos of the ghetto school I go to, but it is extremely hard for me to imagine a teenager who censors himself. I mean…it’s usually the first way children rebel against the social rules, swearing is. Even if they don’t know what it means. It’s the teenager’s first “impurity” so to speak, from their parents’ ideal image. But you don’t have to have authority problems to swear: I’m not as insubordinate as you may think, and I swear a ton.

well, thanks for not helping me *glares* joking. but actualy i really wish someone had taken the time to comment on my delemma. whatever i preety much think i know what he thinks. i’m relatively good friends with one of his friends and i ask his/my friend during french and my friend said “well, if he hates someone he usualy tells them or avoids them. i dunno because he doesn’t talk about you. he hates most of mishi’s (my other friend) friends anyways.”

It is clear by the occasional post from other people on this thread that everyone has some friend issue, and yet you rarely come here. I don’t think all of our helping energy should be directed to romance things that might not last the way a good friendship would, and yet there are few people to help and even fewer to be helped by. This does not compute, and hopefully more people (notably Beavo, who seemed excited about this thread in the begining *hinthintbeavocomeoverhereplease!*)

144-tell S, but tell him that he didn’t hear it from you. that way S can give hints to M that he doesn’t like her without just coming out and saying “well, andrew said blahblah and i don’t like you so nyeh”

that way, S can’t say “i heard you like me” or anything, because M will want to know where he heard it.

Unless S doesn’t think that far ahead and goes ahead and says that anyway, and then you have a bit of a problem. so it depends on S’s personality, really.

(172, 144) Andrew — GAPAs don’t usually speak out on these threads, but you seem anxious for a response. In this case, I’d say there’s not much you can do right now. If things play out the way you think they will (M finds out that S is unattainable and is heartbroken), then you can be kind to M and help pick up the pieces and put her back together again. People do get over unrequited crushes and even genuinely broken hearts, and their friends can play an important part in the process.

In calling the thread “Just Friends,” I didn’t mean to demean friends or friendships. Both are extremely important. I meant that the thread is just about friends (as opposed to romantic relationships, which have their own thread). At the same time, I was sort-of-punning on the phrase “we’re just friends” or “they’re just friends” — which indicates the nature of a relationship between two people without implying that there’s anything wrong with it.

173,174- Thanks for the suggestions, ebeth and Robert. They’re both helpful, and I think I’ll try a mixture of the two; mainly staying out of it, but helping the situation in the right direction.
It’s like standing next to a time bomb, except the clock face is covered with duct tape. I’ll see what happens tomorrow.

*hugs* if you wanna talk about your boyfriend or your friend I’m here. And I understand completely (or I think I do) on the liking each other and also the senior friend. I’m in a show right now too (beauty and the beast) and our Lumiere’s great to go to for a hug. He actually cares how I feel when if I’m upset. (we don’t like eachother that way either) And then the crush on your other friend I’ve a crush on my (female) friend and I think she likes me back… eee. She doesn’t go to my school though so I don’t see her often. argh. R+R and Just friends are starting to step on each other’s toes.

Andrew, maybe gently nudge S into knowing and if M’s rejected comfort her?

yes, ebeth has a weird sense of humor that often makes no sense at all…

175-ooh, duct tape! love that stuff.

for lack of anything better to do (and for procrastinational purposes) i’m going to randomly post initials and reviews of all my friends. subdivided into groups of sorts. so.

B-kind of has a self-esteem issue and thinks she’s stupid because she’s not always very observant, but she’s actually really smart and tons of fun. we have…interesting conversations. often timed to perfectly coincide with the passing of a teacher. somebody’s out to get us. *shakes fist at air*

D-he’s fun, but hangs out with theater friends a lot more recently (at my school, there’s cool theater people, and then there’s the ones who are basically in control, who do theater all the time and who are generally pretty euphemism-y. it gets hard to hang around one group without the other). but he’s fun, and easy to talk to. also recently came out as gay, but people around here are pretty cool with that, so no major psychological issues

L (C)-we sing all the time together. it’s pretty crazy. we also have been known to skip (quite literally) out of class and tapdance through the halls. crazy

L-she’s funny/smart. we haven’t really hung out much until this year, but now we have ap gov and ap l/c together, so it’s cool. i remember not a lot of people liked her my freshman year (i didn’t know her then) but people seem ok with her now (or maybe they just don’t say anything around me any more…but whatev). i’m not sure what the issue with her was exactly…i think she liked D but he didn’t like her or something. but she’s cool.

F-we need to hang out more. in terms of music, college preferences, opinions, and basically everything, we’re just about the same person. also really funny

C-my closest neighbor, although when you live in a little over 2 square miles of space, everybody’s a pretty close neighbor…anyway, she’s really funny, and also has good taste in music. very opinionated too. we talk politics sometimes, so that’s fun

so it started with generally cool people, and went into the smart, english-y friends (from L (C) on, they’re all in ap l/c with me). now we’re going to start off with a couple of people who are in ap l/c but are actually classified as band friends, and move on to band peeps (D actually goes in the band area too…but whatev)

H-he’s a bit of a prick, but we have more of those…interesting conversations that you leave an ellipse in front of when describing (like…interesting conversations) he’s really funny, and tells really bad jokes (they’re so bad they’re funny). he’s also smart, and his horrible jokes are often about chem or history.

S-she can be annoying at times…she’s kind of loud and obnoxious but she’s still cool to talk to and i’ve learned more about judaism from her than from everybody else combined. she’s very good if you need advice about something

Well my friend and I talked to the friend who doesnt listen to us sometimes. She was really upset as usual, but we worked it out, unfortunately we didnt really get the point across that we wanted, but oh well……for now at least. Now I am just having issues being around one of my other friends because of romance issues with this guy, but that is for the other thread. I have kept my cool so far, jealousy keeps popping up mean thoughts in my head, but I keep them to myself and I know its just jealousy, so I know she is one of my best friends. All is well except for my broken heart.

On a happier note, SNOW DAY!!!

172- i have no advice but to be there for who ever gets hurt.

my firnd is cutting my hair on the 18!!!!! it’s not that ican’t afford to go get it cut prefftionaly it more has to do with the fact that ireally don’t want to spend an inordinate amount of money on what an inexperience (no offense to hair dressers but what i want doesn’t need to be done by a profesional) firend can do. really, i just need the ugly log bits at the back trimmed without the rest of my hair being disturbed.. its’s gonna be jaw length. more or less…..

Random Comment:

I’m currently re-reading the Time Quartet (L’engle) and, in the second volume (A Wind In The Door), Meg mentions something about herself and Cal–hold on, let me find it–

“‘Well. Yes. But it’s different. … And we’re friend-friends–I mean, not like the other kids.'”

And that sort of made me think. About friend-friends, and friends. The latter are easy to define: those kids you just sort of hang out with because you get along well enough and desire human company.

And then there are friend-friends… with whom you’re very close, whom you can trust completely, whom you love, whom you don’t judge, who do all the same to you.

I probably have about three max of the latter. The former tire me.

so lb and i had our first really mixed party…it was this thing we used to do back in GR where we’d invite all our band/musical friends over to play christmas music and jam, and we decided to do one here. so it was juniors and frosh. it wasn’t too bad though, we only used them for slavery a little bit n-child brought some drum stuff, although he left his set at home. high tower brought his guitar and amp (and a guitar hero guitar, for some odd reason). andy brought his old trumpet, and courtney brought her acoustic guitar and piccolo. i had three trumpets (yeah…we still haven’t sold those) and a bass guitar, and lb had a french horn and a keyboard, and mater had a pic and a flute. i think that was it. anyway, it was fun. andy decided he really wants to learn to play the bass. he asked to borrow mine for a couple days though so he can see if he sucks before he buys one. insecurity much? anyway, i said yes but i’m going to be like “you break this you DIE phewl” hewitt and courtney both tried out the trumpet, and learned the low brass cheer afterwards we went supposedly to go caroling, but we ended up going to montrose and playing ghosts in the graveyard. dan joined us on the way too, so that was fun. (list of people, not that anybody knows or cares who they are…me, sarah, hewitt, andy, high tower, dan, leeny and courtney for upperclassmen, and n-child, tater, and barnacle (lb) for the freshies)

it was kind of funny, on the way back to my house we were listening to beezelbub by tenacious d (andy had mark’s (his brother’s) speakers) and…well, high tower can yell those numerous f-bombs really loud. we were like “thaaaat was loud let’s walk away quickly now…”

anyway, that’s my latest friendship story…

189- We are still good friends but we don’t ever talk to each other anymore. She started on the path of popularity and I became shy (see Romance and Relationship 2007 v.9) it became so that I woud have to call her or go over, just so she would talk to me. I’ve been erased from her life but now I have absolutly no one to talk to outside of school. At school I never see he and I have friends there but they all have best friends. It reminds me of gym class. People are picking teams and I’m always the last one. I have another good friend at school but she found a best friend that relates to her more. Here’s the worst part, its not teams but cliques and even though I’m included, sometimes there just isn’t enough space. Our lunch tables hold 6 people and I’m always the 7th. I usually end up sitting alone at my own table.

197- It’s getting better, not with the first friend (we’ll call her K) she still forgets i exist most days, but I have been tossed to yet another group of friends. E is a really good friend, and although she already has a bset friend, I’ve been allowed into her “inner circle” and C is really really really realy nice. Things are looking up! The only good thing that comes from being tossed around, one group to the next is that I always leave some sort of mark on those groups so that when I fruitlessly run for an office at the end of the year, I never lose by so much anymore. Last year i lost by 10 votes!!!!!!! not that anyone cares, but i was proud of losing that year.

MASTER CONVERSATION GUIDE

1. I AM TOO WEIRD AND READ MUSE, SO PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH ME

This is an unfortunate situation. What can be done seems to be defined by where you live and how flexible people will be. It may be necessary to find other ways to meet nicer people near (at least relatively) to you. Fitting in may be difficult, but try to find others (if only a few) sort of like you that may not be evident because they aren’t fitting in either.

2. I AM TOO SHY AND CANNOT SEEM TO FIT IN WITH PEOPLE

Becoming shy may be a result of (1.) or may just be how one is normally. You may not be shy around a few people, but canâ€™t loosen up to talk to new people. This may occur in varying degrees, and may seem frustrating to those on the outside or the shy people, if they want to be less shy. Again, try to find people who may have similar interests, and start talking in general about these things. People may be surprised at first, but should lighten up and be friendly, especially if they are actually people you would want to be friends with anyway.

3. PEOPLE AROUND ME ARE TOO SHY OR JUST NOT BEING SOCIAL DESPITE POSSIBLE COMMON INTERESTS

If people are being too shy, it has been recommended you try asking open-ended questions that relate to what the shy person might be interested in. Being friendly and pleasant in general is good as well, to be able to get close enough to ask questions. There are also those who seem to be avoiding social situations but not acting especially shy, just not talkative, but who might open up to conversation if it was introduced properly. Open-ended questions are good, but I think a slightly more general approach can be better at first, as warming up to talking is the main point, where shy people need that as well as a more focused conversation (they may have things to talk about already, but need the warming up, while non-social people just need a little warming up and general conversation, they arenâ€™t thinking as much about what they would say if they talked more).

4. I HAD FRIENDS, BUT EVERYTHING SEEMS TO HAVE GONE WRONG AND NOW I DONâ€™T HAVE ANY FRIENDS

Try to find those who donâ€™t know about those who abandoned you, for they might be more likely to open up to be friends. Most likely, if friends abandoned you, they were not great people, and you shouldnâ€™t feel bad that they donâ€™t like you any more, but instead be glad you have a good opportunity to find better people to be friends with.

5. I AND AT LEAST ONE OTHER FRIEND LIKE THE SAME PERSON AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO TO AVOID SPOILING THIS GOOD FRIENDSHIP

I would say, and others have probably already said this, that the friendship is more important than the person you both like. Of course, if both people follow this idea, it is relatively pointless, but usually one wonâ€™t, so you being the nicer one is a good thing!

6. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DONâ€™T KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THIS CRAZY SITUATION!!!!!
Sometimes a situation may seem like there is no solution and you have no good friends or options. In reality, there really never is such a situation. It just seems so after so many downfalls, but in time a solution will rise, or new friends will be found. Just wait, and keep trying, and good will come!

7. ACK!!!! I AM HAVING NO LUCK MAKING OR KEEPING FRIENDS ALL OF MY SAME GENDER!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer is not always apparent, but I have discovered it and it ends up being quite simple. Try making friends with those of the opposite gender. This may sometimes be difficult, especially for boys, as I have discovered, as those of the opposite gender may not be open at first, but, especially girls trying to make friends with boys, it should soon work out. Just boys results in a BORING CONVERSATION, so nice ones will be happy to make friends with girls. Iâ€™m not quite sure, but have heard that just girls can sometimes be not great either.

8. â€œGROUPSâ€ HAVE FORMED AND I CANNOT BECOME A PART OF A GROUP AND SO I HAVE NO FRIENDS

Groups are good to try to avoid. However, it may be hard not having any friends because one isnâ€™t in a group. See if there is an open â€œgroupâ€ that you can join if a â€œgroupâ€ is required at all.

9. I ONLY HAVE A COUPLE OF VERY GOOD FRIENDS AND THIS MAY NOT BE GOOD

Actually, having a few good friends may be fine. A lot of friends who arenâ€™t very important may not make up for a few good friends, so this is actually not a bad situation. But, if you want more friends but donâ€™t have any because you are shy or non-social, try some of the above recommendations to find more friends.

10. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, BE CONSIDERATE TO THOSE TRYING TO FIND FRIENDS.

If you think someone is trying to become part of your social group, just become general friends, or may want to become friends but is shy, please be considerate to them, and welcome them (if you really cannot, for some extremely important reason, okay.) Help on this end reduces the need for some of the above help I have offered.

200/201- I’m officially no longer friends with her. She really wants to be popular and she’s cutting down her other friends. The other day I heard she was being really mean to another friend. I’m not interested in being popular. There are certain things you have to give up. Like, the fact that everyone but me swears in my school. And you have to “dance.” Ballet is considered dorky. Even though I’ve lost my other friend, I’m surprisingly ok with it, being a type-A clingy person.

If it does you should try to be friends with those people because they’re almost always nice and not obsessed with popularity. Also, how long have you been speaking Latin? THOSE ARE ALL OF THE CHILDREN FROM THE GATHERING. YES, ANOTHER ALL-BOYS EVENT.

OK. H arrives at E’s house. We have snacks and talk, and mother of E gets call from father of C and W, and directs them into the neighborhood. Then I go to E’s front yard and wave trying to signal so C+W will know where to stop. C+W and company get out of vehicle and come in, and Z takes a few more chips. Then Z moves to basement. I believe that first time in the basement we just were running around and playing with various stuff down there, including these foam dart type shooting mechanisms.

Z is eventually extracted from basement. Z and parents go on a hike in a hilly park. H spots a bunch of balloons tied together stuck on the forest floor. H then picks this up and lets it trail behind him as a beacon so the adults would know how far ahead Z was running.

After a long while, everyone makes it to the overlook, a high rocky cliff â€“type thing that looks over a fast-flowing stream.

Then, C, E, and H go towards the stream and look around for sticks of useful sizes and shapes. Then they experimented with throwing different sticks into different parts of the stream to see which would go faster, and usually they would get stuck, or if they did keep going we would forget whose was whose.

Also, one of Eâ€™s sticks didnâ€™t even float, but sank with a quick plop.

Eventually, in the heat of trying to rescue sticks stranded near the middle of the stream, the adults indicated it was time to get back, as it was getting dark. We started back, and H divided up the balloons between all children, and then everyone soon after popped their balloons. We stopped at a point in the woods where old cars were left, too.

Then we got back to the house. A fire is (purposely!) set in the fireplace. Z moves to basement, and I think at this time everyone but (let me guess) H played videogames. (By the way-they were playing something where you wave the remote at the screen. Is this what a wii actually is? I said somewhere my cousins have these things they play on and they get in a really fighting-type mood, but I think they actually call them â€œDSâ€ or something like thatâ€¦)

Eventually Z was called up for dinner, and then again for dessert.

I forget the exact order now, but for a lot of the time in there Z had the basement lights out and was running around scaring the others (Z means everyone, meaning everyone was scaring everyone, basically.) It started as simply two boys hiding in different places around the basement and the others being brave enough to come down and find them, but it quickly deteriorated to just running around scaring anyone you could find

NOW we know why the girls have stayed out of this group!

Okay. Speaking of that, my head is hurting hideously from mixed evidence.

So. A (girl) has in the past seemed as if she didnâ€™t want to get involved with the group of people I hang out with. I found this odd, and thought perhaps she was just shy like many other people I am friends with now.

However, sometimes recently she has been friendlier. I thought then that she was warming up to maybe starting to be a friend. But, there are mixed signals here. When she is there, she can be seemingly friendly, but she is rarely there. If she really wanted to be friends with us, would she not come more often?

And really confusing is this: my mother now thinks that she has at least in the past (like, over a year maybe) and even recently liked ME of all people, shocking as this sounds to you, and me.

So, is my mom correct? If she is, then what is going on with A not coming? And, especially important, what do I do know?!?!?

Now, this is a terribly confusing situation. I have said before I have never had a girlfriend at all. And I donâ€™t know A enough to know if she does like me, used to like me, now doesnâ€™t like me, or if I would like her. I just wanted to be friends, and a whole different dimension I have no experience with is thrown at me. HELP!!!

i was helping stamp books with two other girls for my drama teacher. and this one girl kept swearing (like actualy every other word) and then spoke badly about another teacher in front of the drama teacher even after the teacher had told her that it is against “teacher rules” to have people saying bad things about another teacher to her. and generaly being a big pain. i don’t think she realy realizes what she was doing but if that were to happen again is there some way to politely inform her that her coments are not wanted? the other girls did sort of. but i didn’t realy know how to do it subtely.

207- i say, ignore the fact that she might like you and just try to be friends. a DS is a hand held thing that has a screen a wii is played on the TV.

Maybe not for close friends, but random people, if they are being stupid and swearing a lot, call them something they “are” that isn’t insulting. Usually this will be scientific: thus, they might not know what you are talking about, which could be amusing. Just don’t get them too angry!!

207-this is a bit R&Rish, isn’t it? but anyway, easiest way to find out if she likes you (provided of course that you like her) is to ASK HER OUT. It’s really not as hard as you think. If you just want to be friends for now, invite her over more. talk to her. you don’t have to constantly hang out to be friends. i have quite a few friends whose houses i’ve only actually been to once or twice. hell, i have all of you, who i’ve never met in my life! (except those at the kokonvention of course). talking is the key thing.

and if she does like you, maybe she’s just as confused as you are, and doesn’t want to get herself in the awkward situation of showing that she likes you and finding that you don’t like her. just be nice to her, as a friend, and she’ll hang out with you more.

It is, isn’t it. I guess I put it here because it is more directly related to friendship as that was my intention in befriending her, or trying to. I’ve been trying for some time to make more non-museblog female friends. I STILL don’t know her all that well, as I only see her on an occasional Sunday. And thus I don’t know if I like her, of course. And if somehow I was able to like her with not even knowing her very well, I don’t know what “asking her out” involves, but I would rarely see her anyway.

It’s a confusing and difficult situation, and she may be thinking the same, but I cannot be sure. In any case, unless she comes to meeting more often ( she hasn’t been in a couple of months), nothing can be done.

Come on people, as long as it’s not the F word (any of them) then it’s all good. It’s like saying darn, just with a bit more force. I’m a sailor’s granson, I have swearing in my blood. Ice skating today I was using all the words: The F word, S word, D word, everything. None of my friends care, I certainly don’t. Face it, when you were in first grade you thought “dumb” was bad. In second it was “stupid” and “devil”, in third it was “dang” and “butt”, in fourth it was “damn” and “hell”, in fifth it was most of the major stuff… etc. You either grow out of being squeamish or you don’t. If you do, great. If you don’t, learn to live with it.

Sorry if that was cruel, but I don’t think I’m an especially horrible/mean/bad person, and I curse more than my mother (who dosn’t care, she’s learned that grounding me for saying the S word won’t get her anywhere) and that’s saying something.

222-I just find they aren’t useful. I think I should solve a problem in the time I have, not use swear words because I’m mad about it. Of course, as seen above on this thread I believe, people declared I’m strange because I’m a teen and I don’t swear. Maybe I just don’t find them useful, and don’t feel the need to swear to be considered a “good” teen.

Did that make sense?

Also, through third grade I went to a small private school, and the kids were great, but they for some reason thought the word “underwear” was some big scary word. And they said it ALL THE TIME. By that point it did become scary: AHHH LET ME GET AWAY FROM YOU PEOPLE!!! I thought they were being quite foolish and weird.

Heh, I started saying “stupid” in about sixth grade. I was too scared to, before…

Now, though, I curse (although mostly in my head, and not in front of my younger siblings). Excessive swearing (especially in school and such) annoys me, and makes me wish I was somewhere far away. People are always amazed when I swear, which I think is kind of funny. I don’t do it that often out loud at all, so I guess it’s just a kind of a suprise for them. And then they make fun of me (in a nice way).

I remember in kindergarten, I stubbed my toe and said the “F” word, and everybody stopped whatever they were doing and was like “OMG” (G for Gosh, they were too squeamish for Oh My God) “Did he just say the ‘F’ word?”. I didn’t really know it was bad to say that, I just heard my mom say it a lot when she stubbed her toe.

Usually I say something like Ebeth suggested, some combination. Frumping Scqwishknuckels.

okay swearing: i personaly don’t swear because i feel stupid swearing. but i really have no real issue with other people swearing. the kid who sits next to me in french is irish or scottish (I can’t tell from his accent which sounds irish to me but james says is scottish and i am too afraid to ask him) and he uses all the interesting ones which i find quite humourouse.

224- i used to yell POT HOLES! really loudly.

i used to never take the Lord’s name in vain but now i do it all the time and it really bothers me. i find myself thinking “God this is boring” and then i feel bad. and i don’t know how to cure myself of the habit.

227- (beavo) there’s this octopus pie comic and it’s when eve is a kid and they’re playing duck duck goose and america jones smacks her on the head really hard and she yells “you effing jerk” and the whole class of kindergardeners stares at her, points and gasps. tis quite funny.

i used to swear in my head all the time. not so much anymore. i always feel kind of silly when i swear. i love roberts suggestion of yelling euphamism!

Well, the report I’m sure you’ve all been dying to hear is below

A wasn’t there. This is just getting odd by this time. Unless something terrible has happened to somebody, I see no reason for this absence. It is very odd. And I cannot do a thing to solve the puzzle of what’s going on since I’m in my position. Either “what’s going on” situations.

Other than that, E wasn’t there, but C was, and W was. We were all in the same room because we were playing this jeopardy game thing about different religions. So that was fun, and we finally got to put the Halloween junk away.

Oh! I forgot to say, on New Year’s day I gave C and E each a koko for prez button. I doubt they understood what it was about, but they have the fanpage website printed really small at the bottom, so I don’t know if they noticed enough to bother coming. There was this kid in fifth grade who would say “tartarsauce” whenever he was upset. We all got used to it and everything; it’s not exactly a swear word of any type. But once he said it really loudly in gym. The following conversation ensued.
Kid: (after nearly running into a wall) “TARTARSAUCE!!!”
*silence*
Crabby old gym teacher(COGT): What did you just say??
Kid: Um, tartarsauce?
COGT: WHAT? That’s it! You will not speak like that in this gym! Out in the hall, NOW!!!
*everyone looks at each other, confused*

It’s a true story too. But that’s not why I came to this thread. I came to ask this: What do you think is worse, suspecting you’ll never be friends with someone, or knowing without a doubt that they can’t stand you? Just because yesterday I walked into Target with my mom, and I stood by the door while she got a cart. Then I saw my neighbor (who used to be one of my best friends, but we grew apart in middle school) walking out of the little hallway with the drinking fountains with two of her “cool” friends. When she looked up and saw me, she immediately stopped dead in her tracks and tried to hide behind her friend. Obviosly,(sp?) I saw this, and when she realized that, she pretended that she had just seen me and waved. Now, before this I knew that we weren’t ever going to be close friends again, but I felt really hurt that when she saw me in public her first reaction was to hide. Am I such a terrible person that people won’t even associate with me?

It sounds like embarrassment to me. My guess (just a guess) would be that at some level she feels bad about how you’ve grown apart and prefers to deal with it by hiding from you instead of having to interact with you. That doesn’t mean she wants to be friends again.

My parents mumble swear words like I can’t hear them. My dad calls things swine when he’s angry because of a story he heard about Beethoven walking out when people weren’t paying attention to his concert.

I use weird things in place of swear words. One of them is “what the hack?” I say crap a lot.
I don’t mind if other people swear unless it’s every other word. If someone says a word too many times I stop listening and count how many times they use the word in a conversation.

I usually don’t swear in front of people, if at all. For this reason some people are shocked if they witness me in a really bad mood and I let something slip. [*GASP!* Fern, I never knew you could say something like that!!!]
Mostly though, I don’t get enough in the habit that I fall into it when it would be a bad idea.

I often use the word crumbs. ^_^

My current friend situation

Characters:
C (Not my real initial. C for Cat’s Meow) – Me. 7th grader, came to the school two years ago. Yr u all know me, more or less.
A – 7th grader. Immature, but she’s been friends with me since two years ago, T since preschool or something like that, and K since last year. I’ve worked with her on the past three school projects I’d have to do and she’s done VERY LITTLE on any of them.
T – 7th grader. Came to our school this year, but as I mentioned above, she’s been friends with A forever. A little immature, but not too bad. She’s been working with A and C) on the most recent project, and she actually does quite a bit when A isn’t distracting her.
K – 6th grader, came to our school last year. Very nice person, I don’t have much of a problem with her. She’s pretty quiet, though, so I don’t actually know her that well.
L – 7th grader, came to our school two years ago. A, L and C were a trio for 5th grade, but then L was being really dishonest and rude and generally annoying, so A and C stopped being very good friends with her. I worked with her on one of the latest projects (in a group consisting of L, A, and C) and she did quite a bit. A insists C and L “ganged up on her” and told a teacher that she was using a friend’s school e-mail when hers got suspended. A did almost no work on this project and almost caused us to fail it.
M – 8th grader, very quiet, would probably be considered popular. I’m working with her on a project for a state-wide Teacher’s Conference, and she came to my house the other day to work on it. Yesterday on the school-wide ski trip I hung out with her and her friends all day and on the bus. I usually sit with her at lunch when A and/or T get mad at me and ditch me, with K tagging along.

I have been growing apart from a lot of my friends. They all have friends that are more similar to them since we started high school. I like being different but it’s hard to keep friends at my school because they’re so clannish.

I’m going to list some now…
CB-Kid on my bus, he’s in my grade(freshman). He is very rebellious and can be mean sometimes but he isn’t afraid to back people up.
RS-We used to hang out all the time. I talk to her a lot at school but she’s become really negative about everything. It seems like the only thing she likes now is volunteering at the animal shelter. She isn’t depressed, she just thinks that people are inferior.
KF-She was my best friend for a long time but I usually just talk to her at school now.
AK-She’s probably my best friend. She thrives on drama. She is always fighting with her parents. She has dated the same person 12 different times and will not accept that they aren’t meant to be together forever.
LM-She’s pretty cool. I talk to her a lot. She has a lot of family drama right now. She is very stubborn even when she admits she’s wrong, she will still do what she wants.

Those are the people I talk to most in my grade.
My friend AC is in college and he’s pretty cool. We think alike on most things. He has a girlfriend in Ukraine and he just got back from visiting her a few days ago. I look up to him a lot. He is planning a secret biking trip this summer. He wants to bike from here (NE ohio) to Kansas. He thinks it will take about 2 weeks. I wanted him to go to the Grand Canyon so I was dissapointed that he’ll only make it to Kansas.

I have a whole bunch of great friends, who are completely awesome ^_^ The interesting thing is, we all play instruments. I play the viola (obviously), three of my friends play the flute, one the cello, one the clarinet, two the viola, and five the violin. Whew! It’s very odd, though, that every single person I’m good friends with plays an instrument.

As for swearing, I have one friend who says waffles and another who says snickerdoodles. As for me, I say Gutenberg. Because Johann Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press, is just that cool.

RTH REPORT THAT YOU MIGHT NOT EVEN CARE ABOUT BUT HERE IT IS ANYWAY

Wow. This is late. Sorry about the delay!!

It was almost crowded! A, who didn’t come, was nearly the only one who didn’t come!!

C is showing a good deal of promise now. E is still good, but C is really warming up to being friendly!

K and J (girls, one year younger than me, they are good friends, I think they go to the same school…) were there. Somehow J followed me upstairs and sat next to me, and then when we got to the classroom, K said something to the effect of, “Oh, J, I saw you sitting upstairs next to H!!” With a tone that seemed to be indicating “Oh you like him” or even that we already both liked each other. It was really strange and completely unexpected. And strange. I’m not sure what to think of that, if K is just trying to be annoying to J or if it was a hint or what, but before they had rarely said a lot to me.

So. This Sunday is when A might be there. Hmmm…

262-I know how you feel about the overdramatic thing. I have this one friend (we will call her A) who HATES every little change, and is like living on disney channel, and is narrow minded, and is like, in her own little bubble. Its not a bad thing to be an individual, but that isnt what I mean, its really hard to explain. Anyway, usually i watch all these happy music videos like the jonas brothers, beateles, a bunch of oldies, but the other day i watched one by AFI and am addicted to it. And I have been thinking about getting a few light colored purple streaks in my hair, just because i love purple. And she is totally freaked out, and is all spastic around me saying I am turning emo and what not. There isnt anything wrong with that first of all, unless you start hurting yourself, but she and a bunch of other friends are making a huge deal out of it. It really bothers me, and its just like, who cares if i like those things? I think i know myself better than them. HELP!

Dancergirl-I’m glad your friend isn’t being as annoying. I don’t mean to seem like this friend in trying to stop you, but please only dye your hair if you are really sure you want it that way. Not from outside pressure, or anything of the sort. And it is really bad for your hair. I highly recommend you don’t dye it. And yes, I have been blowing this “bad for your hair” trumpet for a long time, but I feel it is important. For such a temporary change, it is really not a good trade. Also, you don’t know how you will look, and purple is going to stand out as obviously not a natural hair color

So, if you ask me, I’d say to not dye it. It’s your decision, but I do feel it’s not a good idea to dye your hair.

Hmm, stuff about friends…
Well, because I don’t get to see other kids my own age on a regular baisis, you guys are all a really important link to civilization for me.
I have other friends, but I don’t always get to see them. Katie has to be at her dad’s every other weekend, and he doesn’t like me, so that out, and I only get to see Danielle once a week for a few minutes. Others I haven’t seen for ages, or they live way far away. I have friends that Iget to see about once a year, at rendezvous and stuff, but other than that sometimes we don’t really keep in touch all toowell.
I don’t really have any problems with friends, other than I just don’t get to spend much time with them.

ebeth has a problem with you being emo. ebeth knows she is not being a nice supportive friend when she says that. ebeth also knows that she is talking in third person. ebeth doesn’t care. ebeth thinks that nobody really wants to be emo, what they want to be is goth, punk, hardcore, whatever. emo is for people who want to be themselves but can’t so they stick with the popular stereotypes while trying to act like a rebel. if you are an individualist, you are not emo. thus, dying your hair is not emo.

266~ If you want to dye your hair, the you can do it. Purple is not an emo color. If you went and dyed it black and started wearing all black clothes and cutting yourself and trying to be depressed, that would be emo.
You might consider using Kool-aid. I’ve heard that that works well for temporary dying of hair. I’m not sure how temporary ti is though, so do check. Also, if you have light colored hair, try using washable magic markers. It works pretty well and washes out as soon as it gets wet, so wear darker colors and stay away from water if you opt for the markers!!

Or you could try those suggestions and decide if it’s your look and then go for a real hair dying job.

I’ve thought how fun it would be to use kool-aid or some temporary color to make my hair some crazy color, just for a little bit. When I get it cut though, waist length blue hair might be rather disturbing. Besides, it’s not historic….ah, that’s why we wear hats.

OK. I must say, putting dangerous chemicals in your hair absolutely must damage it. The toxins must get into the roots and cause some type of permanent damage.

And please, I know any girl on Museblog must be quite intelligent and have a lot of cool stuff they care about and things they want to do with their lives. Please do not lower yourselves to paying so much attention to something as insignificant in terms of intellectual advancement and relative importance in terms of reaching your goals as dying your hair this way and that. Be happy with who you are, and don’t mind what other people will think about your hair’s color. Anybody who will rate you by your hair color is not somebody who you will probably have much in common with.

This goes for anything, romance or otherwise. You have to set a limit somewhere, and I truly hope Museblog girls will not spend their time over these sorts of things. If it helps any, I am a male who feels this way, and there are other male humans who feel this way. I hope. But anyway, at least one person values you for who you are, not who you are, with a different hair color. (/end of speech)

Dancergirl-What I have said above goes for this too. It’s still your choice, though. But I hope you understand what I am saying.

273~ I know where you’re coming from, as far as it being bad for your hair, but eventually it does grow out.
As far as dying hair as an insignificant thing–yes, it is. But sometimes it’s fun to experiment or do something rther crazy, just for the fun of it. I think people who dye their hair other “natural” colors to make themselves look different because they aren’t happy with the way they were born is a bad idea. In that case, they are lowering their standards. I think to temprarily change one’s hair color to an obviously unnatural color is just for the fun of it.
I somehow doubt that anyone who wants to dye purple highlights into their hair is trying to “fit in.” However, if dying one’s hair is a vehicle for gaining attention, then I’d reccomend thinking over it seriously and deciding if that really the sort of attention you want.
Conversely, if it’s a way of hiding who you really are, than consider why you feel like you want to hide.

Anyway, I hope this make at least a little sense, I’m not telling you your points aren’t valid, I think they are, but that there are other ways of looking at it.

*Sighs* It is your hair. Two things: One, if everyone is “experimenting” with these unnatural hair colors, it is trying to fit in with what everyone else is doing. And two, I meant my post as a compliment. It is your hair, I will say again, but I trust you to find some better (less appearance-oriented) ways of “standing out”. I also trust you to make sure you don’t miss out on what you actually want to do while…Oh, what’s the use, trying to explain this. *Leads women’s rights movement* *Nobody understands*

Now, on to more information on my current situation:

I have information on what has been keeping A from coming, and supposedly this interference shall “soon” be removed. Whenever “soon” is I don’t know, but it seems rather vague (although I know what the interference is, I just am not going to tell the world here), the kind of explanation I have heard in the past with this situation. *Sighs* What a situation. For a while now, I had been not even thinking about the whole bunch of these people, as almost none of them came last time, but this information got my brain spinning again. I don’t know what to think, really. Can anyone hypothesize?

Cat’s Meow, and anyone else: I will briefly summarize:

I have known (known that she existed, actually) a girl called “A” for over three years now. I have tried repeatedly to become friends with her, as I have been trying to have more female friends as most of mine are boys. I rarely see her, and she is really shy. And I have some vague idea that at some point she did, or does like me faintly but I cannot be sure. So it’s all a bit fuzzy, making it hard to figure out.

So, what to do to become friends with someone you rarely see and barely now? I would be happy to hear your thoughts…

I’ll try to get her e-mail if she ever shows up again…the funny part is, I don’t have e-mails for any of my non-museblog friends, so it will be a bit weird to get hers and not theirs. But they have never really seemed like they cared to exchange e-mails, and I am good enough friends with them it doesn’t matter as much…it’s confusing. I dye my hair a lot. I change the color all the time. I am going to have blue stripes this summer and I can’t wait!

Ok I’m about to sound really weird but I need to know how to be meaner and not feel guilty about it. Not cruel, just mean enough to stop being friends with a jerk.

The reason I need to be meaner is that there’s a guy I’m friends with who may just be the biggest jerk ever. He was abusive to my friend when they dated, he makes fun of her best friend (who I’m friends with), and he is extremely mean to my other friend on our bus. When we were in elementary school he would beat up me and my sister, but after not talking/seeing him in 4 years I made the mistake of thinking him changed and forgave him. He has not changed one bit, but I would feel awful going back on a forgiveness, because I consider forgiveness a promise. My friend already told him that he is hurting people, but he said that they deserve it and he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks.

Someone tell me how to be mean!

(286) Unintended Pun, it seems to me that the people who worry most about being rude or mean seldom are. The bullies of the world certainly don’t care — and take advantage of those who do. In this situation, I’d ask myself which would make me feel less guilty: silence while someone hurts other people or saying something that might be construed as impolite.

If you forgave him for past behavior towards yourself, how does the promise, as you define it, apply to present/future behavior? Or his behavior towards others? Effectively, we only have the power to forgive injury to ourselves. I forget where I first heard this, but forgiveness doesn’t mean being a doormat.

Unintended Pun — Maybe you don’t have to go all out and be mean to this person every time you see him, but if he does something mean or hurtful, you should just yell at him for being a jerk. I agree with Rebecca, forgiving him of things he did before doesn’t mean you should forgive him of the awful things he’s doing as he’s doing them.

Unintended Pun~ You don’t have to be mean. In fact, being mean is probably one of the worst things you can do. Rebecca is right, you need to stop his abusive behavior. You aren’t going to make anything better by being silent and letting him hurt you and your friends.
I would reccomend talking to him and letting him know that you don’t approve of his behavior, and that you aren’t comfortable being his friend if he is going to act in a hurtful way.
If he’s really hurting people, then you should probably also tell some adults who might be able to help you and your friends from being abused by him.
It sounds to me like he’s really disturbed, but you can’t be the one to save him, however much we all wish we could help people like that.

282~ Hmm, it sounds like she’s just really shy. All I can say is keep being friendly and try to include her in whatever you’re doing and hope for the best. But do be sure not to be too overly friendly, though I doubt that anyone could mistake you for a stalker or anything like that….

UP-Being mean? Well (I’m chronically Happy, as everyone knows, so…) this brings up a whole debate. Does being mean to someone you are angry at for being mean do any good? Who does that make you? I’m not criticizing you, I’m just pointing this out. Also, is there a less violent approach? Maybe try talking to him with a really concerned way to seem as if you really want to work through the problem? I don’t know the person, but try to think of a different approach to solve the problem. Maybe don’t be friends with him as much or something? I don’t know exactly what to do, but I would suggest doing something besides what you are mad at him for doing…

GAPAs-*Drops to knees and begs* Can we have a new thread now? We are almost to 300 posts, but this thread was created last October and this is February. Not many people come here any more, and I don’t want to continue to talk abut my situation when this thread is often forgotten.
