The self-heckling is likely to be the best part of this game.

So, hooray, I have the first post and the first move (from now on, white=italics, the normal writing on the last thread).
I’ve decided to start this game, which I will obviously win because my more conservative strategy is immensely superior to any spur-of-the-moment aggressive action on the other side’s part, in a classical fashion with 1. e4. Now we can only wait to see what foolishness the other side decides to embark upon.
To stop this from being completely silly, we’ve reached a compromise: white shall make a move, post about it, then black will move the next day (I know, I’m surprised that black would see reason in any matter). So, as the french say, on va voir.
so then… it came true! Bookgirl_me opened a game agansed herself! huh.
The mention of this thread in Chess Games In Progress isn’t a link.
Oops! It was almost a link. I’ve fixed it.
White’s first move delivered a mighty wallop to Black’s center. But Black came back with a counterpunch that knocked White back on ens heels. Now the crowd is going wild, as spectators in the stands start to chant, “Play the Knight! Play the Knight!”
… I’m not sure I could keep that up for a whole game.
bookgirl:
I didn’t expect this to be one of those slow games.
The game bookgirl vs. bookgirl hangs in the balance, as we breathlessly wait (and wait…and wait…) for White to make her second move.
Actually, forget breathlessness. I’m just going to breathe, okay?
I would like to let bookgirl know that she has an audience other than Robert. I’m waiting for that move, too!
Obviously, the delay was entirely black’s fault. I suppose that some silly sticklers for protocol could observe the tiny technically that it might have been my turn, but that was just a brilliant plan to discredit my immaculate reputation- you see, black waited until it was my turn and then, erm, thought about me really hard and… you know what, Palpatine’s behind it all! These commentaries are made for children.
P.S: Hehehe, black can’t attack me if I attack first
P.P.S: Well, I mean, technically she could counter-attack
P.P.P.S: Though that wouldn’t be nearly as cool as a real attack
P.P.P. P.S: Not that attacking anything and everything is cool
P.P.P.P.P.S: Unless I’m doing it, obviously. Duh.
P.P.P.P.P.P.S: And on fridays, we wear pink.
I’ve moved too- no reason to wait around like white. I mean, honestly? She’s so out of her league. Black always wins bookgirl_me games.
Anyhow, she threatened my lovely little pawn and at some point (though not right away) I will have my revenge by slowly gobbling up all of hers while she is helplessly ensnared (and some people say I don’t have a brilliant plan- ts ts). I was considering Nc6, but then she’d have done that pesky thing with the bishop which results in even more pawn cruelty and d6 would’ve trapped my bishop, though I did briefly consider a Fiancetto and I might still do one on Queens-side if I get the chance.
(And yes, this post was in bold and I moved on the same day! Take that, white! Btw, we are not wearing pink on friday. Do we even own anything pink?)
Watching this game is like watching mountains erode: entertaining enough, if you have the time.
Intermezzo, Volume One: In which both parties make mediocre moves because the bookgirl of all bookgirls is somewhat emotionally muddles. In short, black sacrificed the fiancetto she was planning to attack white while white actually castled but now has a position like a pitbull’s face.
(After White’s fifth move.)
It’s not that bad. Black can fianchetto the bishop anytime she likes, and White can now develop in safety.
It is surprising that both of those hanging e pawns are still on the board, though.
Spectators start to murmur and fidget as they anxiously await White’s seventh move. What killer combination does bookgirl have up her metaphorical sleeve?
Bookgirl?
Alright, time to end this- it’s getting ridiculous.
May I point out that the delay was entirely your fault?
Hehe, you lost your pawn!
And there goes your knight- don’t get too cocky.
Oh, fine. 1 pawn vs positional advantage. It’s not like that’s such a great achievement.
This is amazing.
A few more moves, volume 2:
White attacks, Black decides that knights are friends not food!* and retreats, White pursues, Black decides that there’s only so much she can take and that that knight hanging there is a capital offense.
*I wonder if anyone will get that one.
*Someone will.
Is it from Finding Nemo?
That’s what I thought.
Is it my imagination, or is White (on her 12th move) about to unleash pent-up fury of Dark Phoenix-like ferocity?
You know what they say- beware the nice ones.
All right, so it wasn’t that fierce. But it was still a nice, aggressive series of moves. Black will have to be careful now.
What move were you thinking about?
Oh, you know: white queen takes pawn, check, and then starts to tear up the seventh rank, preventing Black from castling and forcing en into urgent damage-control mode. That’s what we spectators like to see.
I’m leaving for Croatia tomorrow and still haven’t finished packing all the asufhkasdfhlia sundresses (since for some reason my shorts have all moved on the the great pants in the sky) so I blitzed the end of the game. I.e. Black makes a few more mistakes but draws it out, white wins.
SFTDP:
I think the black king deserves some kind of award for long-distance travel.
Wow, yes. Quite a hike!
