February 29 is rarer than a day in June, though less rare than February 30 (which never comes at all). Conservationists are marking the occasion this year by kicking off the Year of the Frog — not to be confused with the Year of the Rat on the Chinese calendar, which, confusingly, this also is.
Leap Day is also the traditional day when women may propose marriage to men (or, presumably, ask them out) — something that maidenly modesty forbids the other 99.9452% of the time.
How was your Leap Day?
I had a good leap day so far. Our last show of our Alice in Wonderland-like journey through a teen’s life went well.
It was good. I discovered various information of the new album by one of my favorite bands.
And I’ve decided I think I’ll continue going to school, instead of pleading to be homeschooled again.
*Leaps up and down* hey it says leap day!
Nope, nobody proposed to marry me today…
Just kidding
Red-tailed HAWK

Mine was OK. I got really ticked off at my teachers….
you know what school is like.
Red tailed hawk, will you marry me? [jk]
I had no school today [pwns you]
oh yeah, its sadie hawkins day! shweet? i didn’t have any proposals either, Rth, but that was okay by me. yeah, there’s a really tall sophmore at my school who had his birthday today. he’s turning four. hahahahaha! but he is an extremely awesome basketball player, so whatever. who invented leap year? was it benjamin franklin? or was that daylight savings time?
I believe leap year was invented to correct the mistakes of the Gregorian Calender, which messed up every 4 years. The Aztecs didn’t have leap years, because they’re calender only messed up every 1000 years or so.
My leap day has been unremarkable.
Today this guy in our pre-algebra class said there is no such thing as leap day!
will someone kindly explain this to me?
9-He is confused in his mind.
A handy way to remember when a year is a leap year is there is always a presidential election in the US during a leap year.
Red-tailed HAWK

Yes, MissSwan!
I joke of course. But your comment made me laugh!
And I did leap outside. It’s dangerous in the house now because of my large size. It can be dangerous outside if you aren’t careful, but I am not injured
Red-tailed HAWK

Does anyone have a birthday today?
It would really suck if you were born today
My leap day was very un-exciting
I was home alone and I watched crappy TV
the end
That’s true most of the time. But 1900 was an election year but not a leap year. 2100 will be, too, assuming we’re still holding elections on the same four-year schedule.
any one see Conan O’Brien Last night? very funny Leap day part.
12- By then, it’ll probably have become a dictatorship. Or else Mostly Harmless will have succeeded.
But let’s not let politics interfere with our celebration of a day that comes only once every 4 years!
*thought strikes him* This is MuseBlog’s first leap day, isn’t it?
12-Wow! I was just going by what I have seen during my life, but it makes sense that there would be some periodic difference. I’ll look forward to voting in the 2100 election, but won’t count on it.
I might just feel too tired that day
Red-tailed HAWK

15-Yup! I guess it is… Hey, we both wrote #12 because that was Robert’s post number a minute ago, and then it jumped. That’s funny
The new #12: Wow, it’s already March over there! Is it a lion or a lamb? Can you tell?

Red-tailed HAWK

I think the random thread should be Lion Vs. Lamb :Round one, and the the round changes each part.
9- Our year isn’t exactly 365 days. There’s a little extra time. We have to add it up to make Leap Day every four years or our calendar will get messed up.
10- And a Summer Olympics!
I balenced my books on my head. Just ’cause it’s Leap Day.
*leaps*
They said if we wore green, we would get free ice cream so, naturally I forgot and dressed in black.
Again naturally, I wrote the word “GREEN!!!” on my arm in green marker.
For the third naturally, they didn’t think it was “green enough” (how green does it have to be to be green? It said green on the marker!) and I didn’t get free ice cream.
I’m wondering… Do people born on leap days age 1/4 or some fraction as fast as we ‘normal’ people do?
/gradster(1)/
15- doubts that the U.S.A could be a dictatorship. more like a one-party state.
Hooray! It’s leap day! *leaps*
*leaps* Woo hoo! My leap day was, yes, unremarkable, but nevertheless un-boring.
I dislike leap days.

They make me wait an extra day until my birthday.
I proposed to my brother today. He said no. Then I proposed to him again on behalf of my friend, and he said no again. (she said I could only propose to him for her if he would say no.)
25-I like leap day. It gives me an extra day before my dreaded birthday. Though it’s also an extra day before I go to CO and an extra day until CTY, which is not so good…
26 – I just like cake.
You’re the one that does the 12 2/2 thing, right? I’m planning on adopting that. ^_^
10- not necessarily. and most (but not all) centuries aren’t leap years.
27-I’m the one who did that, but this time I’m turning 15, mainly because I’m sick of people who can’t figure out fractions like “5/2”
I would like the cake, but with the cake comes the wish, and that’s scaring me this year.
(29) In that case, you’re probably safer with pie. Well, maybe not safer, exactly…
(18) That’s a good idea. Rebecca already has some art planned for March, but if you’ll remind us in time next year, we’d love to pit a lion against a lamb. How do they fare in Google wars?
17 – its a lion – there has been nonstop rain/wind, and our toilets are all clogged
30 – Lion – 79,800,000 results Lamb – 38,200,000 results – i think the lion won…
By my possibly flawed calculations, the time that’s not leap day is 99.9316% of the time (1460/1461) How did you get your number?
My leap day was good. I got to sleep in.
26 – CTY stands for Center for Talented Youth, right? I think I’m going there!
My leap day was normal.
I think that February is too short. It’s such a nice month and it will never be as long as any of the other ones.
30-Now that you mention it, my mom is going to make pie instead of cake. But there’s sitll going to be candle
34-It does indeed! Which site/session are you going to? I’ll be at LMU (Los Angeles) both sessions. And you should go to post-cty-depression (a website. google it, since i can’t give a link).
Uuh, I dodn’t know I was supposed to ask out/to marry someone. Oh well, maybe in another four years.
I was visiting with some friends, having out annual red-and-white dinner. Because we were sick over Valentine’s day we had to postpone it, so we crammed it into the last day of Feb.
I spent my leap day at a very serious Model UN conference at Carnegie Mellon University, and it was really fun! We had committee meetings for about 5 hours that day, and also had many opening ceremony meeting things.
Yesterday was the big day, though, starting at 8:15 am and ending at 9:30 pm, we had 11 hours of committee meetings!
Now, I’m about to head out for the final day of the conference. Go Turkey!
29 – I told all of my soccer teammates that I was 12 2/2 and it took a few of them a while to figure out what I meant. =P
38-8:15 am-9:30 pm=11 hours?
39-Taking a few of them a while is actually pretty good. Some people will just get very confused and never figure out what you mean, and many will entirely ignore the fraction and assume you’re just 12. and it gets worse later. when i was 12 4/2 and 12 5/2 people would take a while to figure out that there was anything odd about it, then after thinking for a moment they’d say “Oh, so you’re really 13?” That got really annoying. Why can’t people do math?!?!?!?
emma (40): We had a short break for lunch, and a short one for dinner.
41-short breaks? It would be a total of 2 hours 15 minutes….(Sorry, I can’t seem to get my brain out of math mode. very annoying.)
42nd post?
emma (42): They were short compared to the sessions we had. We had about an hour for lunch and a little more for dinner. We had to have awhile for meals, because we had to walk a long way to get to any place to eat. Plus, it was kind of necessary to have a break because the committee meetings were so intense and energy-draining.
My leap day was rather complicated. I had band in the early morning and then afternoon classes in the morning because it was a half day (for reasons unrelated to leap day). I then had MathCounts right after school (which included lunch). Then, I went home, read my new Muse, and did some more MathCounts work. Then, we had Twelfth Night rehearsal, where we had to do the bush scene 20 times again, which I had to leave early to go to a planning meeting for my Bat Mitzvah project, which involves planning a march to protest the health care system. Finally, I got home, ate dinner, and did some more MathCounts.
I honestly can’t remember that far back. I’m an in-the-moment kind of girl.
My leap day was a bit weird. My science teacher tried explain what leap day was and she ran around the room trying to do it.
Ah, science teachers. They irk me so.
a girl in my class had the best excuse for not having her homework on leap day. she said ‘my homework ran away from me, but since today isn’t actually a real day, i don’t think you should lower my grade.’
Oh, god, just kill this thread. It’s dead.
Meow
Hello, world!
Well, since MissSwann and RtH’s marriage seems to be invading the Kokon thread, let’s move it here! It’s like salmon.
51–what‘s like salmon??????
52: Hehe, I had this bizarre thought while I was typing it, “lt (their marriage) comes back to its place of origin. Like salmon.” So I put that in there.
53–Ohhhhh, I get it now……
“When wed in 3000 A. D.,
Feghoot flouted tradition’s decree
That a smoked salmon’s head
Lie in each nuptial bed,
‘For love laughs at lox myths,’ said he.”
–From “Through Space and Time with Ferdinand Feghoot,” by “Grendel Briarton” (Reginald Bretnor)
55: I didn’t know that… strange.
I’ve been drawing some ideas for flower girl dresses. They’re all modeled by my fan character. ^-^
It’s a pun: haven’t you heard the saying “love laughs at locksmiths”? (…Meaning that people in love will get together even if you lock them up to keep them apart.)
Science-fiction stories that build up to outrageously contrived puns are now called “feghoots” in honor of Mr. Bretnor’s tales (and sometimes verses). I remembered that one because it involved salmon and weddings.
57–nope. I’ve definitely never heard the saying….
I think someone that can draw should draw the wedding!
57: …oh. (*thinks* I have some nutty friends.)
21- Of course not! They just get 1/4th as many birthdays!
Have any of you ever read Leap Day by Wendy Mass?
No, but I read A Mango Shaped Space. Is Leap Day about synesthesia too, or something else?
No, it’s about something else. I’ve never actually read it, but I love Wendy Mass’ books and I think I’ll ask for it for my birthday. I’ve read excerpts of it on Amazon and stuff though.
21- I’ve always wondered when those people celebrate their birthdays.
