We’re saddened to learn and sorry to report that Sally Ride, the first American woman in space and an honorary Muser if there ever was one, has died of pancreatic cancer at age 61.

My Dad called me when I was in the Metro coming home from class… I still can hardly believe it, I’m not sure what to say… I acted as her in my public speaking class a few years back when we were doing mock interviews as famous people. I certainly never expected this to come so soon, but they say her cancer was kept from the press… Certainly an inspiration– I was writing a few weeks ago about how sad it was knowing I’d never be able to meet the late Sir Edmund Hillary and tell him he was one of my heroes and the same is true here… My prayers are with Dr. Ride and her family.

Just saw this on YouTube.
I did a project on Sally Ride in third grade, and saw her signing autographs at a “Women in Science” event. She was the first astronaut I knew by name, when I started being interested in space, and I’ll remember her for that.
I just heard, and immediately thought of KaiYves.
RIP, Sally Ride.
I thought of her as well.
You guys… if I achieve a quarter of what Dr. Ride did in her life, I’ll consider myself a success.

Sad Very sad. The only Sally Ride connection I have is when I had to read 4 mini-books for my STEM class, and the introduction was by her. Still, this feels very personal.
I think that’s a connection she’d be proud of… she helped you in your STEM studies.)

Another first of hers: she was the first lesbian in space. She was a fantastic individual. We could use more like her. RIP.
I cried when I heard. She was a truly brilliant, courageous woman, and the world is much worse off without her.
My second grade class wrote a letter to her, and she actually wrote back personally to encourage us to learn more about science and technology.
