Prince Caspian and Susan? Odd couple. Completely not needed for the movie. At all. RAWR. Darn movie ruiners.

GMO! Mundt works for Britain. The thought hadn’t even occurred to me until I read about Smiley’s paying Liz’s rent. Even then…I was confused. I thought maybe they were intending to frame Fiedler. But, no, Mundt that Nazi cold-blooded murder worked for control *shudders*. Brilliant plot twist.

    END OF SPOILER.

So, I’m addicted to cookies. And I hate it!!!!! If there are cookies in the jar, I have to eat at least 5. It makes me feel fat. But they’re soooo good….. It drives me up the wall! I try to control my addiction by chewing gum, but there are times when I don’t have any to spare.

    SPOILER.
I’m rereading the Deathly Hallows, and I swear, I don’t think that there will be a time where I won’t cry while reading that book. Especially the death of Remus and Tonks. I was reading that in school on Thursday and I started crying in the middle of study hall. The teachers were all :”Aw, what’s wrong?????” I could barely answer.   I love that book.

    Spoiler for Prince Caspian movie.
INSANE!!!! Why did they add that completely unnecessary pairing? They were so faithful to the book in other portions! Why did they have to go and ruin it?
If they HAD to add romance to the movies, why couldn’t they have WAITED until they reached a book in which it was at least HINTED AT BY THE AUTHOR?
I expect movies to adapt the book a bit, but I don’t expect them to look like non-canon fanfics.

    SPOILER: DEATHLY HALLOWS.
8 – Ironically, I just re-read that a few days ago. I don’t get why Tonks and Remus had to die. :(
The only part I really cried at was when he was walking to his death with all of his dead relatives and friends. And Dobby’s death.

SPOILER: PRINCE CASPIAN MOVIE AND DAWN TREADER BOOK.
11 – Exactly. Or even when it’s obvious. I mean, if they really must have romance, wouldn’t Ramandu’s daughter (at the end of Dawn Treader) be a better time to do that? As it is, it’ll be a little strange now that he’ll have had relationships with both Susan and Ramandu’s daughter…

Then again, Disney does not own the Narina movie rights. those are owned by Walden Media. It’s possible, tho not likely, that they might send them to another studio. It’s not likely since Disney Owns the Theme Park Rights, and Other Studios would like to have them (Sony, WB, Universal, Paramount and Disney all run theme parks. I don’t think FOX has any, but Fox content is in both Disney and Universal.)

27- All of the movies were made before (I think) but I don’t know who made them, and I don’t think they were very good quality.

41- They’re going to butcher Dawn Treader. Hollywood managed to stay loyal to the book for Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe and were pretty close in Caspian, but they can’t remain so for another movie. (I don’t like the idea, but it’s probably going to happen)

    WALL-E SPOILER.

In the 22nd century, the megacorporation Buy n Large assumed every economic service on Earth, including the government. Overrun by un-recycled waste, the planet eventually became so polluted that it could no longer support life. In an attempt to keep humanity alive, Buy n Large sponsored a five-year exodus to outer space aboard hundreds of massive “Executive Starliners”, the largest of which is the Axiom. Thousands of adaptable waste management robots known as WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Earth-Class) were left behind to clean up the planet. However, they failed in their task and 700 years later only one WALL-E (Ben Burtt) remains operational. After centuries of living in micro-gravity, the humans aboard the Axiom have lost considerable bone and muscle mass, rendering them too obese and weak to stand or move without robotic assistance. Every task is now automated, including piloting the ship, which is handled by the autopilot AUTO (voiced by the program MacInTalk).

Centuries of prolonged activation have caused WALL-E to become sentient. He collects items that he finds among the refuse, including spare parts for himself, befriends a cockroach, and saves a seedling plant, which he re-pots in an old boot. He frequently watches a videotape of the 1969 movie Hello, Dolly!, especially the performances of “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” and “It Only Takes a Moment”. This teaches him emotion, emphasizing the act of holding hands (which becomes a motif).

Later, he meets EVE (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator, voiced by Elissa Knight), a feminine robot from the Axiom sent to Earth to find plant life. He falls in love with her upon first sight, but she does not reciprocate his feelings because her only concern is for her directive. When WALL-E shows her the plant he found, she stores it inside herself and deactivates. WALL-E goes to great lengths to protect her until she is retrieved by the ship that delivered her. Distraught, WALL-E clings to the outer hull as it departs into the depths of space.

Aboard the Axiom, WALL-E follows EVE to her destination. His peculiar behavior causes both humans and robots to act outside their normal routine. In particular, WALL-E causes a M-O (Microbe Obliterator) model-cleaning robot to leave its designated path in order to obsessively clean the filth WALL-E leaves in his wake, and inadvertently awakens two humans, John and Mary (John Ratzenberger and Kathy Najimy respectively), to the world around them and each other.

EVE tries to present the plant to Captain B. McCrea (Jeff Garlin), but finds it is missing. EVE begins to assume that WALL-E took it. AUTO tells the captain that EVE has malfunctioned, whereupon she is sent to the robot repair ward with WALL-E. Mistakenly thinking that the diagnostic machine is trying to hurt her, WALL-E takes EVE’s cannon arm and accidentally frees all the malfunctioning robots. In her attempt to retrieve the arm, she and WALL-E are labeled as rogue robots. EVE tries to send WALL-E back to Earth in an escape pod, but he refuses to leave without her. AUTO’s assistant, GO-4 (“Gopher”), arrives and deposits the missing plant in the pod, which he then launches with the self-destruct armed. WALL-E manages to save the plant. EVE is so happy that WALL-E saved the plant that she “kisses” him (causing a static discharge between the two). She later returns the plant to McCrea. Curious to see images of Earth, McCrea projects EVE’s security camera footage, which shows EVE the lengths to which WALL-E went to protect her, and she begins to fall in love with him. The captain is enthralled by earlier images depicting life as it was before the rise of Buy ‘n Large, and shocked by the environmental devastation on Earth depicted in EVE’s recordings. He decides that humanity must return to Earth to make amends.

However, AUTO insists that they cannot return to Earth, and is forced to reveal that Buy n Large CEO Shelby Forthright (Fred Willard) ordered the autopilots never to do so, having deemed the planet too toxic to ever support life again. Unable to disobey the order, AUTO locks the captain in his quarters and tries to dispose of the plant. When WALL-E refuses to relinquish it, AUTO severely shocks him, burning a hole in his computer chips and temporarily deactivates EVE, throwing them and the plant into a garbage chute. EVE awakens in the waste disposal room where trash is being collected by gigantic WALL-A (Waste Allocation Load Lifter-Axiom-Class) and compressed into huge cubes (with EVE and WALL-E inside two of them) and subsequently jettisoned into space. With M-O’s assistance, EVE and WALL-E are able to escape being ejected with the garbage. EVE then discovers that WALL-E’s motherboard had been badly damaged as a result of the electric shock. EVE searches in vain for replacement parts for WALL-E, even dismissing her original directive to do so. WALL-E presents the plant, insisting that EVE carry out her original directive, which will bring them back to Earth where he can be fixed.

EVE carries WALL-E out, and they recruit the malfunctioning robots and make their way to the main part of the ship. They are aided by the captain, who hotwires the operating systems from the confines of his quarters and directs them to the holo-detector, a pedestal that rises from the floor on the one of the main passenger decks. After tricking AUTO into believing he has retrieved the plant, the captain battles with AUTO, during which the ship is turned on its side, piling the immobile humans in a corner. While EVE protects the humans from the vehicles and large objects falling towards them, AUTO retracts the holo-detector. WALL-E uses his body to jam it open, which crushes him, much to EVE’s horror. McCrea stands up unaided (to the amazement of the passengers) and manually overrides AUTO, restoring order aboard the ship. The humans and robots work together to place the plant in the holo-detector, releasing WALL-E and activating the automatic hyperspace jump back to Earth.

Having arrived on Earth, EVE frantically repairs WALL-E. However, the extent of the damage seem to have re-initialized his memory and personality: he begins crushing his treasured knick-knacks into cubes, following his original directive. EVE’s attempts to make him remember prove useless; as a parting gesture, she takes hold of his hand and leans her head towards his while humming the song “It Only Takes A Moment”, before kissing him again. The resulting spark reboots WALL-E’s memory and he suddenly recognizes her as they clasp hands. With a renewed sense of purpose, humanity and robots begin working together to restore Earth’s biosphere, directed by the enthusiastic Captain McCrea.

    MAJOR VICTORY OF EAGLES SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
This was, in my opinion, the best book yet. Temeraire’s POV was absolutely wonderful- he’s such a winning character, especially when you get inside his head. The whole storyline of Napoleon’s invasion was well-thought-out and entertaining. It was a risky business to create such a radical deviation from “real” history, but Novik pulled it off with panache. It was entirely believable (and yes, I’m including the dragons). The ending saddened me (Poor Laurence, leaving his country and everyone he loves behind- and Temeraire isn’t that well off, either, he might never see Maximus or Lily again!) but it also intrigued me. I hope she writes more books: it will be interesting to see what Granby, Tharkay and Laurence do in New South Wales, and whether or not they manage to keep Temeraire and Iskierka in check. (I can imagine the little Kazilik hunting kangaroos- “Oh, these hopping beasts are very tough, but rather tasty once roasted…”) I wonder what sort of dragons Australia has… or even if it has any at all. Its fauna has always been very different in “real” history due to its isolation, and it doesn’t seem like the barren climate could support any very large creatures like dragons. As for the rest of the world, England and France have already begun granting dragons rank, and giving them wages: will the rest of Europe follow suit?
The new edition was also very nice: elegant cover, hardbound, with none of the cramped, small print that made the nineteenth-century style even more impenetrable. All in all, a wonderful chunk of literature.

I’m getting so sick and tired of hearing about how awesome the Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, and other typically “scene” stuff that LITTLE KIDS like are. How is Power Rangers scene at all? I dunno, but they are now. Why would you watch Power Rangers anymore? Because it’s popular? How lame is that?

And the MUSIC. Really, how is that even music? Some of it can be catchy, but there’s no use wrecking the whole Techno scene with a useless, breathy, “colorful” singer and his little software that makes techno beats, talking about scenie stuff. I don’t want to hear about dinosours. I don’t want to see another band with an exclamation point at the end. Nickasour! Really? There’s billions of scene crap on MySpace, I don’t need to add every single frigging band just to look like I have lots of friends.

The clothes. Okay, so sometimes I want to go all neon and bright too, but that dosn’t mean I have to look like a clown to acheive that look. There is a scene style which I find fine, but it’s destroyed now. Subcultures are supposed to be DIY, and now you can buy a subculture off a shelf at Hot Topic. And people still think they’re “original” and “different” and “nonconformist”, yeah right! Just because you have hair like a bird’s nest, extentions, and skinny jeans dosn’t mean you’re nonconformist, it means you look stupid. Who cares how many bands you know? Who cares how “underground” they are?

The culture itself. TWILIGHT. Since when does Twilight have anything to do with a culture? WHY should this peice of crap be incorperated into a style? Mushmushmush ramblerambleramble. And just because you’re in Hot Topic dosn’t mean you’re “scene”. Jeffree Star music on you’re iPod dosn’t make you automatically colorful and neon and scene. I HATEDHATEDHATED how Camp Half Blood was done. It was downright awful. All of the fun stuff was taken out – like the rock climbing wall and the pegasi stable. I was really looking forward to seeing how they would put together the different cabins at least – but that part wasn’t in it, either. (And the gods/goddesses on Olympus weren’t specified – you couldn’t tell just by looking at them which god or goddess they represented, which I thought was sort of disappointing.) Even now, I’m still coming up with things that were left out. Some things that were left out were understandable yet still annoying, but I can understand it – but many of the things were completely unexcused.

    1. The fact that Luke hates the gods just can’t be the driving force for something like five years’ worth of warfare and disagreement and whatnot. They obviously aren’t going to try to make the rest of the books into movies, besides, the implication was that Luke died at the end of the movie, Percy heaved him off a skyscraper with a trident in his neck.
    2. I think they tried to make it into a boy movie. Annabeth got totally downsized, and there was no mention of Thalia at all.
    3. “The Lotus Eaters?” What a load of junk that idea with the flowers was. You can convince people anything is mythology these days if it’s got a weird enough name. Sheesh.

Excuse me, Luke getting thrown into the water means nothing… It’s called a plot twist. They do plan on making the sequels. A boy movie? Hell no. All of the characters were downsized (It’s a movie!). I agree with you about not introducing the tree (Thalia) and Clarisse, but they can always introduce Thalia in the next movie (she isn’t really important in the first book).
I don’t mind putting The Lotus Eaters in… The basic principle is there.
I agree that some ofthe story was completely changed, like Percy being on an official quest and the plot that goes along with that, but the plot worked. Obviously they needed to keep the movie shorter, and they managed to keep the main ideas. I thought that Annabeth and Grover were great characters in the movie.

Camp Half-Blood did NOT have that many people. Or that many trees. And it did have cabins. And Percy’s own personal thing, built by Poseidon himself? Preposterous. That and then Percy just turns up, and they know who his father is immediately. And then they go talk to Luke. And what does he do? Sure, he plants the Lightning Bolt on him, and tries to lure him to his death.
But then he gives them a pair of shoes. A nifty pair that’ll haul Percy into Tartus when they’re in the Underworld, right?
Wrong. Luke gives them a pair of shoes that does them nothing but good. And ultimately helps them defeat him, IN A WAY WHICH LEADS YOU TO BELIEVE HE WAS KILLED. Come on, I mean seriously? What on Earth is the point? He was just trying to help? Sure. And what’s with the huge flying battle at the end? Really? Must you?
And what’s with Annabeth being this freaky serious ‘you will die’ person?
And the Parthenon. What on Earth was that doing? Replacing the St. Louis Arch and Procrustes, and the water park, and a thousand other little scenes I would have loved.
And they can’t do a second without it seeming horribly, terribly, contrived. Which means no Nico, no Tyson, no Rachel Elizabeth Dare. No giant junk monster. No Whats-His-Name which I can’t remember who was the son of Nemesis. Like Jason or something. That’s not right. Whatever. Him.
And what’s with the Hydra breathing fire? Seriously? That was the Chimera. Hydra’s just poisonous.
And where did the Big Three pact go? And why didn’t Zeus and Poseidon have like three thousand children apiece? And where did the ‘Gods can’t see their children’ rule come from?
And Poseidon was too cool. Where did his Bermuda Shorts and Hawaiian shirt go?

That was completely random, disconnected, and making little sense. The rant, I mean, not the movie. Actually, it fits both. *grumble grumble grumble*
And another thing. PERSEPHONE WAS FOUR BOOKS EARLY! FOUR BOOKS!
Sorry, but Persephone has always been one of my favorite of the Greek Gods, and I could deal with the book’s interpretation of her, but the movie… *shudder*

    Okay, I’m done now.

Then again, many of the critics who saw the movie didn’t even know that it was based on a book. So they just dismissed it as a Harry Potter knockoff.

I have gotten so many hits from my “Yahoo Alerts” thing for HP with article titles (or first sentences) blathering on about Harry Potter mimic, and how somebody needs to cast an anti mimicing spell. Or something. I’ve not actually read the articles, i skip over ’em just like all the ones that are talking about the very non-hot star of the very crappy twilight series.

Yeah. The review we read actually appeared to have read the book, though.

Although I haven’t seen the movie yet (going to this afternoon), I think many of the things people have mentioned (excluding Ares, excluding Kronos, excluding Thalia) is because they were worried that reaction to following movies would be similar to the pre-release reaction for this one, so they wanted to just make one movie. Just a theory that makes some sense.

And for the record, I am pleasantly surprised with how mild the reaction is on MuseBlog. There are some people elsewhere on the web who pretty much spaz out over such little things as the Camp Half-Blood T-shirts. :P

SPOILER PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS MOVIE SPOILER.
Waitaminute, it’s June 21st and Persephone is in the Underworld? Logically, shouldn’t the earth be kinda still in winter instead of THE SUMMER SOLSTICE? Greek!! Mythology!! Cannot!! Be!! Ripped up and torn into weird-shaped pieces!! For!! The!! Plot!!
Also, where was Kronos? I mean, I can understand taking out Clarisse, and Thalia’s disappearance was… whatever, I dislike it but whatever, but how do you deal with not including the main villain in the first movie?
Also also, I thought the movie was an example of some of the most obvious storytelling I’ve seen in a while. In Aunty Em’s Garden Emporium, Grover’s standing around and spots his Uncle Ferdinand as a statue. He makes some comment like “Hey, that looks just like my Uncle Ferdinand! Except he was killed by a…” Ominous look. At this point, I’m pretty happy. It’s one of those moments where you’re like It’s a Medusa it’s a Medusa I love this bit this was so great in the book and I totally know what’s happening and everybody else is like Hey, wasn’t there some kind of monster that turned stuff to stone in Greek myths? Like, chimera? No, it was the… snaky lady! Right! Snaky lady! Medusa or something! At this point, Grover goes, ominously, “Medusa!” Boom. Ominous suspenseful the-audience-actually-has-a-brain-you-know moment dead.
Also also also, Luke should have been much better-looking. Just throwing that out there.

204- I know! And they can’t even just pretend that in this world she stays all the time, because she said, ‘I live for my time out of here.’ Which she’s right in the middle of, right? Oh wait. Never mind.

203- You should have seen me right after I first watched it. Honestly. We spent the rest of the afternoon talking about how terrible it was, with brief breaks while my cousin and her boyfriend talked about how hot one or another of the actors/actresses is.

      PERCY JACKSON SPOILERS.

      201.4 ~ (Fishy) I agree with you.

I actually thought that Grover was done very well, Percy was pretty good, and Annabeth and Luke were so-so. (Based on the book.) As a movie on it’s own, all of the characters were decent.

I don’t think that it was a “boy movie” at all. Sure, many of the main characters are male, but that’s the way it’s done in the book too!

Thalia isn’t a prominent character in the series until the very end of the second book and the third and later shows up in the fifth book. I was disappointed that her pine tree didn’t show up at all, but that’s a pretty minor detail compared to the other gaping things they missed out on. In my eyes as a very hard core fan, I think it’s acceptable that she wasn’t mentioned, taking into consideration the other parts of the film that were unlike the book.

As for Clarisse, sure, she’s disappointing, (And I’m as upset as anyone about it) but I have a feeling they might show her later if they do more films (Which I think is very likely), especially once they get to the fifth film, assuming they do decide to make a fifth film.

The Lotus Casino was, as someone said, more mythologically accurate than the book, and also was entertaining to watch, which is why it’s a movie – for entertainment.

202 (Errata) ~ Ugh, CHB. I agree. Especially about his cabin already being there and set up for him.
I agree with most of the other points you made. :( All sad, and upsetting, but also frustrating.

204 ~ (Cat’s Eye) Luke was ugly. Very ugly. His character in the book is HOT people! And there was NO relationship development between Annabeth and Luke, no subtle clues of their past. Hello? Isn’t that a major relationship in the series? All it what have taken was a couple more lines, nothing completely changing.

205 ~ (Errata) But Logan Lerman IS hot! ;)

      A couple more thoughts:
I feel like so much of the time they were so focused on making sure that the film wasn’t like Harry Potter, their plan actually backfired and made it seem MORE like HP! For example, the quest and the monsters sort of had a HP-feel to them, whereas if they had stuck closer to the book they probably would have been less like HP.

Also, what-the-cake with how the gods can’t have physical contact with their kids? Wasn’t it the Big Three pact in the book, which is also a major part of the series that was completely ignored here? Hel-lo!

If they keep these actors, by the time the last book has come out, they will all be in their late 20s/early 30s. NO way! I will cry if that happens.

Eh, my cousin was actually more obsessing over whoever played Luke, and I’m assuming that wasn’t Logan Lerman, because of other things in your post. I don’t know who any of the actors were, except for Zeus. And that’s only because his actor happened to act in a different movie, and I learned his name there.

Personally, I thought Luke was pretty darn hot. I suppose different people have different tastes, because I didn’t think Percy was really that good looking.
I personally liked the movie a lot, but I agree that some things were very annoying. One thing that I thought was done perfectly was Smelly Gabe. Great actor ( his last name is even similar to Ugliano!), he was irritating and bratty, and quite perfect. His purpose in the story was also well explained, and almost exactly like the books.

Oh yes, Gabe was done pretty well.

Luke….eh, everyone’s got different tastes. And I was being just a little bit sarcastic about Percy, but I thought he was better-looking than Luke was.

          But oh well.

Oh! I might be able to go out and see it again today. I’m not exactly sure why I want to see it again, after it being not-so-great and murdering the book page-by-page, but I do. Hmm.
