Graduation!

So, how many of you are about to finish school this year — either secondary school or university? Congratulations to all of you, regardless!

  1. Congratulations, graduates!

I graduated two years ago! But there were less of us graduating from college then. Soon I’d like to go to grad school and hopefully graduate from that!

    1. I only have a year left of grad school but I kind of am hoping I don’t graduate – I’d really like to win a job in the next year, in which case I’d most likely not finish the degree.

  2. Technically I haven’t graduated yet. It might be a week or two before they mail me my diploma. (I skipped the cap-and-gown stuff that happened this morning.)

  3. Only secondary school here. Our leavers’ ceremony is in a week and a half (complete with ball at The Savoy hurrah) and though we have to stay in school for exams after that, it’s too soon. I’m only now beginning to appreciate the security that the whole school system provides. That’s not to say I’m not looking forward to the challenges of higher education and being independent and all that!

  4. I graduate this year, but not for another semester (and definitely not while I’m still in the midst of finals…) . Do I get my own thread or can I party in advance here?

    1. oh also: we’re allowed to wear whatever we want to graduation. I’ve been considering graduating in one of my dragon hoodies. This was last week when it was like 50 degrees out though, now it’s like 80 and alternating sunshine and bucketing rain. So, if I can’t do that, not sure what I plan to wear. Consider this an invitation for suggestions.

        1. Something I’ve always wondered: why are they called commencement exercises? Is it because it’s supposed to symbolise the beginning step of adult/working life?

            1. I’m honored and humbled to speak in front of you today at graduation. If you look at the front of your program however, you’ll see that today is not a graduation but a commencement. What is a commencement? I didn’t know either, so I looked it up in the dictionary. Unlike a graduation, a commencement is not an end, it’s a beginning. The beginning of the rest of our lives.

              1. I liked this so much that I pied it both at home and on campus.

When my partner graduated from community college, I made a bingo scorecard at commencement. I’m sure “commencement is a beginning” was on there, although I wish I’d made it the free square.

    1. OmKoko, your hoodie is made of awesomeness! And the squid, and the shirt… can I come live in your closet for a while?

  6. Thanks friends! This was the Smaug hoodie I made to wear to the second Hobbit premiere. I eventually need to add the headspikes but I ran out of time before the movie and hten sent my sewing machine home before I decided to wear it for graduation.

I also meant to paint scales on it (like my mermaid tail) but then I was too lazy. Oh well!

It was fun, even though it was approximately 807º out. I only wore it for the procession in and then walking up to/across the stage to get my diploma but it got some nice reactions!

There was also a pirate, someone in a lot of fancy draped scarves, a guy in a full-body bright red morph suit, fairy wings, my roommate wore silver wire jewelry elf ear cuffs, and some other things! Liberal hippie school can be fun.

  7. My graduation from high school seems as good a time as any to make a return to Museblog.
Congratulations to everyone else who’s graduating! Don’t be scared of the future, be excited that you’re free!

  8. Uh I guess I’m taking my last GED test next week and that’s kind of like graduating? (Reading/writing, pretty much my strongest subject, and I’ve passed the other three With Honors so yay!)
Honestly, I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all by not having a high school graduation.
