It’s Bee Week! Tomorrow in Washington D.C. begins the 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee, with 281 spellers competing over three days for the title of National Champion. In years past the blog has proudly rooted for our very own Andrew, emmatheduck, and speller73 (2008 was a real nail-biter). Are there any bloggers competing this year? Will the Society for Simplified Spelling be protesting again?

Preliminaries
Round One (Computer-Based Test): Tuesday, May 27
Round Two: Wednesday, May 28, 8:00 – 11:45 a.m.
Round Three: Wednesday, May 28 1:15 – 4:45 p.m.
Semifinals
Wednesday, May 28, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 29, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Championship Finals

Good luck to all spellers!
-Vendy
What fun! I always enjoy following the Bee online. The best coverage I’ve found is on a blog called “A List of Things Thrown Five Minutes Ago” (throwingthings . blogspot . com).
Aaannnnnnnd they’re off!
Our Twitter feed (@Kokonspiracy) is temporarily following a bunch of Bee-related news and commentary. I know the spelling bee is on television for the rest of the week, but @Kokonspiracy is a good way to keep up with events if watching ESPN is not an option.
CO-CHAMPIONS! First time in more than 50 years!
Whoo-hoo! Naturally, my power went out shortly after the field went down to six spellers. Sigh.
It was an exciting finale. You really ought to check out the chatroom on Throwing Things, starting about 10:20 p.m. (http :// throwingthings . blogspot . com /2014/05/the-2014-national-spelling-bee.html). MuseBlog’s own speller73 was one of the commentators. All the former spellers were going crazy.
Aah! Thank you, that helped me get a good sense of how the competition progressed.
The chat isn’t loading for me, sadly. Is it not working anymore?
It doesn’t work for me, either.
I emailed the blog. Here’s the response:
“It’ll be back in the morning. I think.”
It’s back!
