Hey, I’m EXCITED for school..and GAPAs, please notice the change in email address…my old one got deleted.
Gooding back on the 18.
I’m not looking forward to school AT ALL. I still have to do my summer reading, and should probably get on that soon….
I start on the 28th.
I’m going back early September… I don’t even know the exact date.
I don’t think I’ll mind too much, at least for the first month or so. I’m starting high school! Though I don’t quite see exactly what it is that everyone sees in it. A new school. Woop.
I start two days after labor day in September. Raynpho, I think you’ll have a Freshman Introduction Day, so you’ll start a day earlier than that. Probably.
I’m going to be a sophmore. It’s going to be a long year. I sat next to a sophmore in Orchestra last year and he told me horrible stories… *shudder* The main thing is essays, essays, and more essays. Most longer than the ones we had to write last year. If my school’s anything like your school Raynpho, you’re right, September’s sorta the “see if everyone knows anything” month. At least for freshmen.
3- Do you live in California? I’m staying with my cousins in a city near Sacramento (I can say that, right? Wikipedia says that Sacramento and surrounding areas have more than 2 million people living there) and they start on the 20th. I think.
5- no. she lives in Pennsylvania.
6- Ok. Purple Panda, sorry.
I also have cousins who live in Colorado; they start school this week! They end in late May! Weird!
I go through the summer…..so I’m not going back at all. Oh well. I get enough breaks going to Jamestown, and living history events, and who-knows-where-else that if I kept a traditional schooling schedule I’d never get anything done at all.
I always regard the school year as a slightly ominous thing, because all of a sudden my friends have much more rigid schedules. I’m just so used to being able to go anywhere just about any time, that I always have to remind myself why people give me strange looks when I’m where they think I shouldn’t be, like at the grocery store in the middle of the day on a weekday. I also have to get ready for people thinking I’m out of college, because I’m not in school……
That’s always amusing!
We don’t start til September 4… And I’m kind of looking forward to it because I like my schedule a lot better this year.
I’m almost dreading going back to school for the first time since I started going to my current school. It’s going to be ultra-weird without any of last year’s 8th graders, plus some of last year’s 7th graders left to go to other schools.
There will be about 33 of us (give or take a person) that will have gone to the school for all four years. That’s kind of cool, but kind of sad, too, like we’re the last of a generation. Which we are.
Also, and I know this sounds dumb, but most of the good soccer players at my school graduated or are leaving. On the plus side, quite a few of the remaining players are girls, which is pretty cool, but playing soccer at lunch will be weird without all of the 8th graders. Everything will be weird.
On a completely different note, I’m trying to figure out what I’m going to do about a binder for this year. I used an expanding file folder in 6th grade, and an expanding file folder/three-ring binder thing for 7th grade, and I don’t know what I want to use this year. I would prefer a three ring binder with folders to hold papers, but I can’t find five or six two pocketed folders that are all from the same theme. Yes, I’m picky.
You wanna talk about school?
Our freshman orientation was pure hell.
We played “icebreaker” games for the first TWO HOURS. TWO HOURS. Read that again in case it didn’t sink in. Ridiculous. And it wasn’t anything useful, or anything that would actually promote friendships, which was ostensibly the goal. Just “Simon Says” and nonsense songs. The worst was one where twelve “volunteers” were chosen from the audience. Boys were paired with girls, and each pair had to pop a balloon by hugging and pressing it between their stomachs. The image which it gave the adolescent audience I leave to your imagination.
Then, when we finally got down to the orientation part of the orientation, we were forced to dress up as beauty queens. Even the boys. Paper tiaras and sashes, the works. We were given the “grand tour” of the campus, which amounted to our junior/senior guides cursorily pointing out the major buildings. Then we were handed our schedules. We also voted on a class color and a class chant. All of them were ridiculously silly.
The entire “orientation” was nothing more than a massive, collective, administration-sponsored hazing ceremony.
So, what’s everyone else doing?
School starts the 21st.
Whoever designs websites for online Back To School stuff is an idiot. I can’t find anything useful on anybody’s websites. And these are stores like Target, Walmart, and Staples, that should have good websites. But apparently don’t, unless I”m just looking in all the wrong places.
I’m fine with school starting again. All this free time is wearing on my poor nerves. (lolll)
But really, the sooner this year starts the sooner it’s over…I need to get ready to hit the books harder than ever (aka actually study for once)
We start up the second.
11) Ice breakers break no ice for me. I’m familiar with that balloon nonsense, though not in an orientation setting. that’s extremely awkward. my condolences.
11–is that orientation for HS or college?
I start school on my birthday. Bleah.
15- HS. Sorry to hear you start school on your birthday. That’s the sort of thing that makes you think the Norns have got it in for you.
I start school around the 25th.
I don’t want to go back. If only schools were more like MA…
I’m starting on the 27th, going into 7th grade. My social studies teacher is suppost to be AWESOME so I’m happy.
11-the baloon thing sounds awful!!!
If my grade had to do that, I think some people would have a heart attack. (seriously)
Is there anyone else from New Hampshire here? (other than MissSwann)
*shares same school of thought as Beatlesrockr*
Yeah, if all schools were like MA…but then, wouldn’t MA be *shudder* like NORMAL schools?
AAAAAAA!!!
September 2 I shall start 9th grade.
School starts on August 27, the day before my birthday. I’ll be a sophmore . I have an insane amount of summer homework this year. I have to read kite runner, study for two tests we’ll be having during the first week of school, and brush up on my french, since I’ll be moving up to honors this year.
*marvels that, 37 years after he himself became a sophomore, sophomores are still forgetting the second “o” in “sophomore”*
22- Well, sophomore does mean “wise fool,” after all.
I’m not looking forward to this year because it will be insanely difficult. As much as I like learning, I’m looking at months of getting no sleep because I’ll be staying up all night doing homework, and a lot of stress.
I start tomorrow. First day of Freshman year. What fun.
Nah, It’s gonna be awesome. My high school rocks.
11- *Sympathy pies*
I’m starting 7th grade on the 28th of August
What rocks: The the 6th graders have to start the day before to get used to the school
What makes me nervous: Instead of doing the science fair in 8th grade I, being a member of what my friends call the freakishly smart class, will do it this year, compete against the 8th grade, AND have no Idea what I will do.
What I find cool: The librarian asked me instead of the 8th graders to help out in the morning
What I find Awesome: I, being a member of the scary smart math class of the freakishly smart class , am doing Algerbra instaed of pre – alg like a normal person.
What stinks: School starts only 7 days after my birthday.
8 – That makes me wish I still homeschooled.
11 – *more sympathy pies* Icebreakers = hell for introverts. All they really do is make things 1,000 times more awkward!
I start school this Tuesday and I’m not looking forward to it. The few friends I had last year were all either seniors who graduated or 8th graders who left to go to a traditional high school this year. That leaves two other girls my age, who are such best friends already that I’m never more than a “third wheel” with them. The academics at my school are top-notch – same for the teachers, I love them, they’re all so amazingly passionate about teaching – but honestly, there’s no hope of a social life for me as long as I stay there. I’m sort of excited to be a senior, but I really just want to get high school over with and move on with my life.
Okay, sorry for the rant – just had to get that out of my system. Moving on, how long are your school days? Mine is 8:30 to 3:45, which seems kind of lengthy given the amount of homework we’re assigned.
My school is cool in the fact that we don’t do any class work for the first two weeks of school. Normally that’s 8 days, but it’s only 6 this year. Either way, we don’t even get our schedules until the end of the day of the Friday of the second week of school. It’s cool.
My school is from 7:40 – 3:45, but I think they’re making the school day 10 minutes longer district-wide this year. Our day is longer than all of the other schools in the area because we have extra arts classes in the afternoon.
28 (Cat’s Meow): What do you do for the first two weeks, then? It sounds like fun. I take a summer reading test the first day of school and get a lot of homework the first day. Though, the first few days are nice because you’re just getting to know the teachers and their class, so it’s not as intense quite yet.
I start on the 20-somethingth of August. I had my freshman orientation in early June, where I found out that my school has a fight song of all things, and that there’s half a week of school party before classes actually start. I’ll have to find some way to not come, I guess.
24- Good luck! :D.
27, 29- Your schooldays have reasonable timings. Our district makes the day start at 7:00 and end at 2:30. Why so early?
I don’t think we’ll be having an freshman orientation, though. We already took a tour and had about a million assemblies to “prepare” us for this great new experience we are about to enter. I could be wrong though.
29 – We go team-building in our homeroom-like things, which we call Teams. You usually have the same Team for all of the years you’re at the school, and in addition to normal things like homework you also do lots of competitions (sports and otherwise) against other teams, and can have movie days and stuff like that. We do lots of things in our Teams at my school.
I think I’m slightly in denial about the first day of school. Not the actual start of school bit, but the fact that none of my friends will be there.
32- Ooh, our middle school has teams too. Except there are separate teams in each grade.
Why won’t your friends be there?
I go back the 26th.
Red-tailed HAWK

High school. I’m scared.
I’m Homeschooled and I start 6th grade in September.
18- if you live in [Snipville. –Admin.] the 7th grade SS teacher IS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! everyone who hates their SS teacher and is going into 7th grade should MOVE HERE!!!
or  or :crybaby:
8th grade is supposed to be ok-ish
I start ALgebra 1!!!! idk if I am
*sigh* I didnt think I could say that. it is a rather small town
I go back the 27th…I think
11- Eurgh. That’s why I skip orientations.
Ooh, yeah, HS is now offering traditional math as an options so *happydance* no more IMP! So I’m doubling up on math classes and taking Algebra 1 and Geometry, which will be awesome.
Furthermore we’re getting a new Physics teacher, who hopefully will not have such a dreadful talent for monotony.
And i don’t have to take PE this year!
So yeah, I’m more excited than I was last year.
35- I started today. It’s not as bad as it sounds.
My school is 8:00 – 3:18. 8:00 is the ony time during the entire day that you would see on a normal schedule. There are no :15’s, no :30’s, no :45’s, no o’clocks. Instead it’s stuff like 8:44 and 12:36 and the like. It’s complicated.
Wow. I feel old. Everyone else is frosh or lower. ‘Cept Sunrunner. For me, this Thursday=First day of Sophomorism. Shouldn’t be too bad. My locker location kinda stinks, though. And I couldn’t sign up to take Japanese. But other than that, it should be a pretty good year. However, I’m sick of our principal. Last year was his first year at my school, and already he’s made up countless stupid rules. For instance, you can’t sit down during passing periods. You can’t wear hats. You can’t wear ripped jeans. And he shortened passing periods to six minutes. Seven was barely enough for most students, so how is six going to be any better? However, I get to take a computer class this year, so I can take Java programming next year and AP computer science senior year. So hopefully, I’ll be able to post on MB more often, not just after school. I’ll be taking, *thinks* three honors classes, but Latin is basically an honors class as well. Sorry for the randomness. I’ve ingested far too much caffeine today than should be allowed. Granted, it’s only 1 bottle of Mountain Dew, but still. Well, I’ll see y’all later.
33 – Because most of them graduated.
I’m out of self pity mode now, though, and I’m trying to get myself excited. It’s actually sort of working, I guess. xP
35) seriously, don’t be. high school >>>> middle school. not saying it’s the greatest thing ever, but it’s way better than other options.
41) I’m going to be a junior, and I believe Oxlin and Eccentric the Afterthought are both going into college. ebeth and jadestone are older…Purple Panda too. uhh I forget everyone else’s ages. yeah.
Your school offers Japanese? That’s awesome…although not being able to get in isn’t. I think Japanese is the class with the lowest enrollment here, so three honors and four AP are going to be combined. Which I hope will be beneficial for me, since I plan on taking AP next year.
Other classes are AP US, AP English, Animation (yeahhhh), Physics and Trig. A failure at math is me, so I’m not looking forward to that last one. But it’s all cool.
Ha, Japanese? I would be lucky if my school let me take Spanish. Let me explain.
From kindergarten to about halfway through fourth grade I lived in California and was in a Dual Immerson Spanish program. At the time my family moved I was basically fluent in Spanish. I could have passed for a native speaker.
However, very few people in the area surrounding where I live now speak Spanish. And, because my school is so small, we only have one Spanish class, and that’s for 8th graders only.
What’s more, I can’t even take it this year, when I’m actually going to be an 8th grader, because I’ll be taking Geometry at the high school during that same period. Grrr.
Even worse, they won’t just let me take the Spanish I exam now, and (assuming I pass it) let me into the Spanish II class at the high school. See, I’m going to have ever Thursday off from the math class because of the high school’s schedule, so we were talking about maybe having me do the class then, so I ould take the exam. BUT, apparently there’s a minimum number of days I have to be in the class to qualify to get the credit. Who cares, as long as I can pass the test?
There would also be the problem of what to do when I’m in high school: apparently, you’re not allowed to take Spanish III until you’re at least a Junior, so I would end up sitting out a year of foreign language. Grrrrrrrr.
27-My school is from 7:35 to 2:30. I have to get up at 5:50 in the morning. *groans*
40, 43 – Thanks. Middle school sucked; High school had better be better.
41- I’ll be a sophomore. And we only get 5 minute for passing, which, this year, means I’ll be running from one end of the school to the next… Oh, and our new principal decided we can’t cut through the gym any more, for some reason, which sucks because the hallway that connects the two halves of the school is always completely congested, so it’s going to be touch and go getting to World History.
except for Driver’s Ed, which is not really something I care about, and I have a suspicion that we will be watching a lot of movies in that class.
So. This year I am taking Algebra 1, Spanish 3, Geometry, Health/Driver’s Ed, Choir, Biology 1, World History, and English 10.
I won’t take Driver’s Ed ’til senior year. My classmates are making fun of me for that.
High school is just as bad as middle school. At least here anyway.
I’m going to be a sophomore. I’m not looking forward to most of it. I’m taking Mythology because in a moment of confusion I allowed the guidance counselor to pressure me into it, but I’d really rather take metals. Unfortunately I’m probably not allowed to switch.
The only things I miss about school are Latin, RDE, and Math. I don’t even miss lunch. I hope I get Mr. R for math this year because I had T last year and they’re really good friends and have similar teaching styles. I wish I could have T again but I probably will in a couple years anyway.
We actually do just call him T most of the time. Not Mr. T or Mr. Name. He’s really cool but he gets angry when we don’t do our homework or when we ask dumb stuff.
Tomorrow I’m probably going to get school supplies. I love school supplies. I have an odd obsession with notebooks. If I have a pretty notebook I never want to write anything in it because I want it to be important.
WOW!!! I just got a letter from the schools saying that I made it into algebra! (I’m starting seventh grade)
(50 gnash) Cool! have fun. I loved algebra.
Bleckybleck. I start school this thursday.
(49 Karinnn Tayyy) Metals and Mythology? Dannnng. Your school offers cool classes.
Ha, I’m totally obsessed with notebooks too. I could spend hours picking out notebooks.
I’m excited for junior year. Even though I didn’t get into Field Studies and I got Moody for AP US history.
Honors Algebra 1!!!!!!
49 – We call our teachers by their first names. It’s cool, especially when substitute teachers come in that aren’t used to be called by their first names.
50 – Congratulations!
49-Yeah we have tons of electives. I’ll list the ones I can think of off the top of my head:
Metals
Woods
Myth.
Geography
Economics
Child Care
Psychology
Latin
German
Spanish
French
Art
Ceramics
Photography
Computer programming
Statistics
TI calculator graphing??? I don’t know what this is actually called.
History of Theater
Oral Communications
Astronomy
Young Adult Literature
Shakespeare
Journalism
Band
Choir
Keyboard Composition
There’s a lot more, but those are just the ones I can remember now. We have pretty neat electives, but it’s too bad we don’t have more open schedules. I’ll never get to take most of those because we have lots of required classes.
52- what grade?
6 days of summer left.
54 – At my school, everybody has electives for first period. We call it Flex, and it’s for the first hour. We also switch Flex classes every 6 weeks. But, because we’re a small school, we don’t have nearly that many electives. I took Sign Language for most of last year. And Yoga, but we don’t talk about that. -shudder-
I’m taking Biology next year!
And Geometry! And Pre-Calc!
48~ how old are you now?
My parents decided that I won’t go for a learner’s permit until I’m at least 17. However, since MD has a graduated driving system, I’ll be somewhere around 18 or probably 19 before I actually get my license. And until then they’ll have to ferry me to violin lessons, Jamestown, friend’s houses, etc. If you ask me, they’re shooting themselves in the foot.
Although, it’s not like I can’t drive………just not….legally
Hey, (forgive the double post) has anyone else heard of the Teaching Textbooks company?
I’m probably going to get some of their math courses (math is the supreme evil and cause of all discord in my life. Really. And none of the curriculums we’ve tried have worked.)
I was just wondering if anyone knew about their products.
58 – Twelve. And I’m gonna be a freshman.
60~ Ahh. I wondered.
61 – Mmhm. And here in boring old MN, you can get your permit at age 15, and drive at sixteen.
What a long way off.
58: Driving is overrated. Especially when your mom yells to turn lefts and theres a car there! *rants* *grumble* grrrrrwqeawoefipjasdfmnas;lefkjas;
Umm, yeah, moving on… Is anyone else a sophomore? God, I can’t believe I’m a sophomore already. I feel so old. I also can’t believe I have to take stupid health this year. Don’t do drugs. Don’t smoke. Abstinance is good. w00t. Learned it all in seventh grade.
63- and before, at least the durg and smoke part. I learned that in KINDERGARTEN!
Ooh, health was the bane of my existence in eighth grade. It was 12 weeks of, drugs are bad, you need lots of friends to be healthy, abstinence is good, you can’t be healthy unless you have a good social life, and OOH! HALEY! Lookit the textbook! You have an EATING DISORDER, because you don’t EAT the CAFETERIA food and you FIT THE TEXTBOOK’S DESCRIPTION of someone with ANOREXIA!
So yeah, not the best 12 weeks of my life.
63~ Umm, yeah. I’d probably be a sophomore if I was in the public school system.
I started yesterday, already have homework, an essay (for math!) and two tests today. -_-
I’m going to high school this year, and even scarier, I’m going to private school. Away from all my friends, away from everyone I ever knew, and I have to wear a UNIFORM. Gack. That wouldn’t be too bad if mine didn’t fit me life a lumpy potato sack.
I always shudder when I go to Target and I have to walk past all the school supplies. It gives sort of an ominous feeling, you know?
I start school September 2nd.
*is now 5th grader*
Wow! Now I get to…*thinks* do 5th grader stuff.
*sighs*
68 – Me too! High five to Sept. 2nders!
Tee-hee. I got my license months ago. And won the lottery for a parking spot at school. One problem: no car. Darn.
In AZ you can get your permit at 15 and 1/2 and your license at 16. You don’t have to take drivers ed but it’s recommended and your insurance goes down. I took it, but it was just one saturday class and a bunch of sessions in the car with an instructor.
Health wasn’t so bad. It was a semester for me, freshman year. It was mostly nutrition. We learned how to make healthy sandwiches.
(69) I loved fifth grade. Have lots of fun. Enjoy elementary school!
67- What math curriculum are you on?
71: RE Health- Really? We were taught nutrition in Home Economics, seventh grade. Not that we actually learned much that wasn’t already common sense.
And in our middle school, health was one quarter every year. Meh.
68- I hope it turns out all right. My friend changed to a private school for freshman year, and she *loved* it. Of course, that depends on the person/school, but…
62~ In MD you have to be 15 and 9 months to apply for a learner’s permit.
67~ An essay for math? That makes no sense to me.
28 – Lucky! I already have homework I should be doing.
41 – Latin! Fun. I thought I would never miss Latin, but actually I do.
43 – I am working on applications, etc., but I’m not actually in college yet; I’m a senior in high school this year. I wish I were already in college, though!
49 – Same here! I collect notebooks with cool covers, but I’ve hardly written in any of them.
54 – Awesome! My school doesn’t have electives, which can be frustrating, but then again, if it did I wouldn’t have time for them either because there are so many core classes already.
58 – Ack, Kentucky just adopted the Graduated Driver Licensing program too. I’m going to wait until I’m 18 to get my permit because I don’t want to have to deal with all the new requirements for 16-and-17-year-old applicants. :p
59 – That sounds vaguely familiar; are they associated with the Teaching Company that collects all those college lecture series for home use?
68 – Eew, I feel your pain. Do uniforms ever look good on anyone? I was stuck for most of middle & high school with an extremely strict uniform that also happened to be extremely ugly.
I went to a small, predominantly (did I use that right?) Christian school for 6th-10th grades, so we didn’t even have a health class, just a ridiculously strict staff that I guess was meant to keep us from needing a health class, considering that girls would actually get called to the principal’s office just for holding boys’ hands.
We don’t have health classes at my school. We have “HIV/AIDS Education” classes that last about 3 days, during the Flex/elective period I mentioned earlier, and that’s bad enough as it is.
74- As far as the Math Essay thing goes… Last year I was in IMP (because our school is JUST NOW offering traditional math…) and we had to write an essay about *hem* how we felt about poetry. Poetry! *shakes head* Impared Mathematics Program. Ick.
That mathematics program does sound impaired. Did you learn any math at all?
77, 78- wow.
78- Yes, but only because Davis deviated from the curriculum.
Technically it was called INTERACTIVE mathematics program, and according to the other math teacher (not mine, thank goodness) it was based on the idea of letting
victimsstudents “discover new things” or some such nonsense. Personally I think it sounds like a leftover from the self esteem movement.Anyway, that was our school system’s only math program until this year. Now though, we get traditional math! Yay for Algebra!
See, I am zoned to go to U. middle school, and my friends were supposed to go to P. middle school. But then, see, I transferred so now I’m going to go to P. middle school. But the bad part is, see, is that they did’nt give me a P. electives slip, so I can’t go to advanced band. So I’m now probably going to the wheel. *shudders*
I DON’T WANT **** VARIETY!!!!!! i WANNA KEEP ON PLAYING THE CLARINET!!!!! WHY THE **** DID NONE OF THE TRANFER KIDS GET A ******* ELECTIVES SLIP?!?!?! THIS IS SO VEXING!!!!!
The world is a confuzzling place. I need to chillax.
High school this year. *is scared* I’m preparing myself for a lot of stares especially in classes like pre-calc and a lot of questions along the lines of “Aren’t that spelling bee girl?” I get to find out how badly they messed up my schedule on the 19th. And then the torture (at least that’s what I’m expecting it to be) begins the 26th. My classes (and their respective grade levels) are:
pre-calc (11th I think)
Honors chemistry (10th)
Honors English (9th)
Honors history (9th)
Band (9th)
Honors French 5-6 (11th)
PE (9th or integrated, I’m not sure)
And lunch of course. At least I’m going to a better school next year.
I think I’m going to get school supplies today. I don’t know because my mom keeps messing it up.
I found the old electives booklet thing and a list of requirements for classes. I figured out that I will be able to finish all the stuff I need and have time for other classes.
I think our school has a stupid art department. I’m not looking forward to art. It was my favorite thing in middle school, but now it claims to be an elective when it isn’t.
If art really was an elective I wouldn’t take it. Grrr.
AHHH!! Last day of summer already? Cake! I hope at least some of my friends have the same lunch period as I. My schedule:
Honors English 10
World Geography
Honors Algebra II
Chemistry
Honors Spanish III
Latin II
Intoduction to Computer Science
Sports Officiating
Forensics (speech and debate, not dead bodies ‘n stuff)
Japanese I (I wish. Maybe next year. Maybe not. 2 foreign languages at a time should be more than enough, but still…)
82 (and all other soon-to-be freshmen)- Don’t be scared. It’s not that bad. It’s like middle school, only bigger. And with more freedom. At least at public school it is.
83- Ugh. I hate art class. Thankfully it remains optional at my school.
77 – Sounds more like some strange English class!
84 – Latin! <3 Which books are you using? My old school insisted on the Henle series, but it seems like everybody else uses Ecce Romani.
My schedule this year:
French II
AP US History
Algebra II
Greek II
English Lit. II
Western Civ. II
Logic
My classes:
Art History I
Drawing I
Computer Science I
Calculus II
Hebrew (of undertermined level, at the moment)
I have no idea what to do about school supplies. Any suggestions?
My classes are as follows:
Computer Science
Biology
Algebra 1
Symphony/Chamber Orchestra
Speech
English Lit.
American History
Physical Education/Swim
85 – I used Ecce Romani. It’s awesome, I love it.
My classes:
Actually, I haven’t gotten my class list yet. School starts:
SEPTEMBER SECOND.
HA!
*faints*
I think I know my classes, but seeing as I’m going into 5th, and I’m in a Gifted class most of the time…
6th grade science is the only one I really almost know for sure, but I’m repeating my PE, Music and Art. 5th grade. Again.
I know I have:
Math: Geometry + Pre-Calculus
Science: 10th grade Biology
And that’s all I know.
I’m homeschooled. My homeschool group has a ‘not-back-to-school’ celebration every year.
91- ARMADA OH MY GOSH I’M HOMESCHOOLED TOO (dies of suprise)
89- I just got out of 5th grade
92 – There are more homeschoolers here than you think.
89, 92 – I never went to fifth grade. I wonder what it’s like… *wonders*
90 – Geometry and pre-calc in the same year? Wow. (Of course, I’ll be doing contest prep, probably including an online contest prep course, this year in addition to pre-calc.)
84 – My high school is in a different district than my middle school, which I think is pretty common in IL, so they aren’t as accommodating as my middle school was. (Honestly, we had to fight for me not to have to repeat biology and to do band.)
94 – Yes, both in the same year.
School starts on monday… why can’t it be sooner?
This year the high school is going to have the same buses as the 4th and 5th graders. They put us on the same schedule and the 1st-3rd grade and middle school are together I think.
The eighth grade has lunch at 10:15 am. That is breakfast. Really.
If I woke up like I was going to eighth grade and didn’t actually have school, I probably would eat breakfast around 10, lunch around noon or a bit later.
97- Yeah, I have funny eating schedules too. I will eat breakfast, well, whenever I get up (generally at either 8 or 10) and then I will eat lunch at 3 and dinner at 5 or 6.
This also contributed to the whole “Haley has ANOREXIA!” thing I mentioned in post 65. Sigh.
93-Apparently so. Is the homeschool thread still open? Cool, RK! What state do you live in? Um, if that’s okay to ask, GAPAs.
Yes, you’re allowed to reveal the name of your state.
Even if it’s Rhode Island? Yes, I suppose so.
96- Because most people tend not to go to school on the weekends.
I’m going to be starting a new school in September.
I’m starting Spanish *shudder* with the awful world language teacher. One of my friends (also doing Spanish) and I think we should buy those Wuzzy tapes so that we actually learn something.
But at least I get the awesome social studies teacher.
My opinion of school beginning: *loud swearing*
The school in question is undergoing some major de/construction. Yes the / is supposed to be there.
I don’t think the schools in my district have banned Museblog. So I’m gonna enjoy it while I can. Bweheheheh….
105 – Some districts have BANNED MB?!?!?!?!?!
105-WHAT?!
In my class, during free time, we play on BrainBashers. MuseBlog is unknown…
5th grade starts tomorrow! Wish me luck!
107- Tis an outrage. Mine hasn’t though! Mwah ha ha.
105- HOW CAN THEY BAN MUSEBLOG!?!?!?!?
At least my district didn’t.
I’m going to [Snipville –Admin.] high. It’s a pretty good school, but I’m worried about being the class midget.
I am going to high school and being the smallest is the least of my worries.
It’s probably wordpress they’re actually blocking. blogging is subversive and all that.
I have registration tomorrow…sigh. No I would not like “lounge wear” with the school’s name on the rear, thanks. I’m paying you enough for our ten pound yearbook. School of 3000+=pain on varying levels.
104- good luck with the de/construction.My old school just did a lot of construction. It was supposed to be done by the start of school….November…January…April….. well, they did finish by June.
I’m waiting for school to start. (less than a month) I’m tired of lazing around all day. and I have to do more chores durring the summer…. urgh… I also have great classes this year…… but none of my favorite teachers.
Must… Get… To… Sleep…
I can’t wait for school to start…
10…more…days…
My school district is absurd sometimes. They block everything. Including our school’s website/G-mail based student e-mail accounts, for a period of time last year.
Amazingly, though, I don’t think MuseBlog is blocked. Yet. I probably won’t risk getting on at school much, because if you go on a forum site too often they’ll discover it and block it.
116- Sleep is good.
117- Your school blocked its own website? *snickers uncontrollably*
summer notes…paaaain
and we start in 6 days *death* i have so much to do yet
on the plus side, i have all good classes with all good teachers. senior win moment!
69-I actually had 5th grade in the Middle school. Yeah, My school district is weird like that. It was a good year. Have fun!!!
9 more days until school for me!!
I went back to school shopping yesterday. Does anyone have wacky stuff on their lists?
Every single day at study hall last year I went on MB.
I shall try to do that again, unless I have too much homework.
As I said on the Random thread, our middle school’s- *Leafy runs away screaming* What the heck?!- initials are PMS. Great omen, huh?
122-
121- Study hall? Different classes?! *hugs Leafy with all her might* We don’t wanna be in different classes! *whimper*
I got my schedule, locker combo, and number via letter(s) a few days ago. The only useful at-this-moment information the schedule told me was that I have Studio in Art as my elective.
The first day’s September 3rd, but the 4th for the upperclassmen.
Our district has 4 levels of school- primary, elementary, middle, and high. The high school day starts around 7:00 and ends 1:45, and each level down starts/ends 30 minutes later.
Does that seem a little wonky to anyone else?
My homeroom’s in the gym, because we’re the last few letters (W-Z), so they plonk us in the gym.
125- I start on Sept. 3rd, too! Yayzers!
…Wow. Second day of school, and no school.
…Wow.
*loves back-to-school project*
glad you do. mine stinks
Igo back in less than a week!!!!!!!
BEFORE LABOR DAY!!!!!!
THAT IS JUST PLAIN
WRONG!!!!((i ment to say JUST PLAIN WRONG))
((he he! it worked!))
schedules? i’ve posted this probably a million times, but…
AP Music Theory
AP Euro History
AP Stats
—– don’t know yet (study hall for now..stupid conflicts)
Band
AP Lit+Comp
Torch (Newspaper)
i guess i’m gonna talk to doc and see if i can get an independent study for latin…if not i’ll just have to keep a 3.5 (for honors diploma) which shouldn’t be too hard given the amount of APs i have (yes, they are weighted)
if that doesn’t work i’ll probably end up doing semester classes, maybe media and culture and idk what else, ceramics maybe? study hall is the most boring thing ever and all my hard classes are in the morning anyway, so a 4th period study hall would be useless
CERAMICS!!!!! sounds cool
all my study halls r used up..cuz i have band and choir. im starting middle school next year, wats it like?
None of my friends are in the same lunch as me. My high school has 3 lunch periods. And they’re not in my classes. And I don’t get lunch until 1:00. For goodness sake, I only have 2 afternoon classes (and 5 morning classes though that includes gym and band).
I started today! And I’m there right now! *hypers all over the place*
Schedule:
No first period!
2 – Health
3 – Algebra 2
4 – Biology
5 – PE
6 – uhhhhhhh….wait….Spanish! Right.
7 – Honors English 9
After school on Tuesdays – Tech Theater!
There you have it.
I ‘m really looking forward to Biology. And Spanish. And Tech Theater. But the bad part of my schedule is that (as far as I know right now) I only have friends in 2 classes: Kailey in Biology and Gurleen in Honors English. (and then everybody at lunch, but that’s not a class)
I don’t know my exact schedule, but the classes I’m taking are…
Geometry
Biology
Honors English
Honors American History
Honors French 3
Band
Study hall (that’s not really a class, but still)
Speedwriting/Health 10 (yuck)
135) wat class r u in now?
so i dont really know mine yet….but i think it consists of the basics, language arts, math (rrgh), science, etc.
or were in?
136) i hate health
this year the teacher makes my schedule.
134- lunch at one is better than lunch at, say, 10:30.
135- How’s it going? I hope you make lots of new friends. there must be some muser-like people in your classes….
138- We had lunch at 10:30 last year.
I don’t have a lunch period at all this year, because I’m taking a class instead, but we get to eat during classes, as long as it’s not science or something where food would be out of the question.
139) thats nice
ahem. “…food is prohibited in all classrooms and food with peanuts is ABSOLUtley out of the question….yadda yadda yadda..”
132) you’re a senior aren’t you? I think so, but I want to make sure.
I registered yesterday, got all my classes I wanted…here’s to hoping they don’t shove me into math last period for the fifth year in a row. and now I go to actually do my ap lit assignment cause I’ll have no time for the next four days. sigh. school doesn’t start till the second and I’m already behind…
I don’t know what to get for school supplies, high schools don’t give you a list. Help? I know it can vary from district to district, but what are some basics?
139 – We get to eat during math, because my math is advanced after-school math. At 5:00 we get a ten-minute break and everyone chows down then.
140 – WTF?
I’m taking:
Geometry and Pre-Calculus
Biology
Honors English
Honors Government
(I don’t know what for Gym)
Yearbook
141-yep. senior pride
re: lunches-we’re small enough that we only have one lunch period, and we actually share the cafeteria with the middle school at about the same time (they go slightly earlier so they can get their food before us big mean high schoolers get in there). But it’s really not crowded at all because we have open lunch, so most upperclassmen go out to eat or just find a hallway somewhere (and sometimes annoying freshmen do the same…grr)
142 – Pens, pencils, accordion file or binder, pocket folder for each class, and a notebook (a large one like a 3-subject) for each core class. At least that’s what I did.
As far as lunches go, we eat in the elementary school caf, because that’s the only one in the system, which is horrible in winter because it’s cold and a bit of a walk.
Also, we only have from 11:30-12:00 to eat, so by the time you walk over, get through the line (unless you get there first), and find a place to sit, you’ve got about 10 minutes to eat and walk back, and of course you can’t run because the sidewalk is always iced over. Alternatively, you can try to get to Obo’s or the grocery store and back in time to eat, but that’s even farther so I don’t really see the point.
Generally I just eat in the hallway. It’s simpler.
I hate homework.
146) Tell me about it.
YE GAD, what a lot of comments!
I haven’t registered yet, or finished my summer reading project. -slinks off-
Exactly two weeks left to finish half of a rather intense book, and write about it AND three other books. *hyperventilates*
Not good.
I can’t register until the 28th. -waits-
101 – Rhode Island! You live where H. P. Lovecraft wrote.
*envies*
103 – Muzzy? I used to do Muzzy German. Now that I think about it, the story was really odd, but I’m sure it was much more fun than a textbook would have been.
116 – Good luck! I told myself I was going to fix my sleep schedule when school started, but obviously that didn’t work out because here I am staying up half the night again. The MB is too addictive.
My algebra class is doing SAT/ACT prep…I can already tell I’m probably going to fail the math sections on both tests.
151 – The SAT/ACT really isn’t tough. It’s mainly reasoning (at least for the ACT). You only need a complete and thorough understanding of Algebra I and you should get at least 500 on the SAT. I got 600-something.
Good luck on the ACT… I got 27.
152- I hate standerdized tests.
In about five minutes I’m going to meet with my guidance counselor and pick my classes for this year.
153 – I should already know my schedule, but we forgot the password to log in to the thingy that shows your schedule. So I don’t know. Yet.
151-my SAT math was horrible, my ACT math was pretty good. (i got like 1920-ish on SAT (i’m retaking it) and 32 on ACT) they’re really different math sections. SAT is more algebra-type stuff.
155 – I got 1100 on the SAT and 27 on the ACT…
Corny School joke Alert!
One day in the cafeteria, after everyone was served, the lunch lady asked for complaints. A boy named Justin raised his hand. ”These peas are as hard as rocks!” he said. The lunch lady came over, picked up one of the peas off his plate, and chewed. “They seem soft enough to me!” she said. “I should hope so!” Justin said. “l’ve been chewing them for the last ten minutes!”
I have classes!
151 – I’ve taken the SAT three times. I’ve done well on the math, but math is my best subject.
159 – I’ve taken it thrice too! I always to better on math then on reading.
I’ve just found out what class I’m in. I want to transfer to a school in Iceland, or Alaska now. *sulks* I’m GOING TO DIE IN THAT CLASS! And no, it’s not going to be better than I think it will be. I’ve got the 15 most annoying people in the whole school in my class, the top 10 stupidest, the 12 meanest, and everything else you can think of. The teacher is the hardest teacher, she pushes you a lot, and makes you stay inside for recess sometimes.
ARGH!!!!!!!! I AM TO DIE! THE FATES HAVE DECIDED!
161 – I’m sorry. There’s always lunch.
160 – Yeah, I do better on math. Though I did scarily well on writing this year, which is surprising considering how bad my essay was.
WHOA confusion. My schedule says I’m in Design and Draw and Advanced Drama for my electives. Advanced Drama isn’t even until second semester! Oh well. It’s not like I’ve even talked to a human about it yet.
If all goes well, I will be in:
Honors English 10
Accelerated Biology
Honors Global Studies
Algebra 1
Spanish 2
Shakespeare 1
Something else that I can’t recall
162- Actually, in my school, people can only sit with their classes. ARGH! THEY ARE EVIL I TELL YOU! Who could do that to a kid? WHO?
*dies*
OK. I have gotten over the fact that school is in fact starting Monday. *dies again*
OK. I’m back. My classes are……
Chemistry Honors
Art 2
Algebra 2 Honors
AP Environmental Science
Civics and Economics Honors
English 2 Honors
Madrigals
French 2
Classes for cliff eagle (entering 9th grade)
English Literature
Earth Science
Algebra 1B
Spanish Honors (really?)
Policy Debate
If school doesn’t start soon I’ll- I’ll- I’ll refuse to go! Wait, that wouldn’t acomplish much, would it?
Seriously, though, I’m about to drive myself up the wall in boredom. My brother got a letter from the school confirming that he’ll be in the same Team as last year, but I haven’t gotten one yet. I hope I do soon, because it’ll have an updated Team list, and I really want to see that.
I also really don’t want to have to call my mentee. I think I’m just going to send a letter, and that way I can say I tried to contact him. He just never responded.
168) Mentee? What’s that?
School starts in 3 days for me!!!!! Yay!!!!!
All of my main teachers are female. Well, no, the “special education coordinator” is male. And he has big eyes.
Ugh, I am so bored!!!!! I need something to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh. I guess I’ll go post somewhere else.
School starts in 10 days. Yarp. I wanna spend my days posting, but now I have to go eat breakfast.
so…i’m 130 pages through my 540 page book
no, it’s not reading. it’s notes. a hellish amount of notes
i have three pages, front and back
and i still have the philosophy to do
<death>
171-LUCKY. School’s already started for me……..
I love school supplies! They shiny!
172- -sympathy- I’m in the same situation.
I can’t read Great Expectations. Seriously. I can’t understand every other word, and I HAVE TO TAKE NOTES????
175- What can’t you understand about it? I thought it would be really hard (being Dickens) but it was actually easy and a great read.
Notes suck, though. 59 chapters’ worth of notes.
i think i need to stop overanalyzing everything to death
i have four pages of notes, front and back, and i’m not even halfway through the book
lizzy had three (front and back) total.
It’s about 30 minutes till school right now. Eek.
School starts in exactly 42 min. But I have to leave in around 30.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
176 – It has a lot of footnotes, which really bug me, and the vocab is also outdated. Plus, I have a terrible time reading required reading books.
180- Oh, you have a footnotes version. I’m terribly sorry.
Bookworm, have you started Summer reading yet?
Does anyone know what “gummed reinforcers” are? They’re on my school supplies list, and I have no idea what they are.
I think they’re the little pieces of doughnut-shaped fabric that you stick around the holes in binder paper to keep the rings from tearing through. I can’t remember the last time I needed them; they strike me as Mostly Useless.
184) So you have to put them on every single piece of paper? or at least most of them!
*goes cross eyed from imagining sticking giummed reinforcers on binder paper*
I guess I’ll go buy some though, even if they’re Mostly Useless.
My schedule is seriously messed up. Schedules at my school are always a little messed up compared to “normal” schools, but I’m apparently super special this year.
Monday:
Math
Project class (?)
Lunch
Project class (?)
Team
CE
Tuesday:
Math
7th/8th grade Science
Lunch
7th/8th grade Science

Now, here’s where it gets complicated.
Wednesday:
Math
7th/8th grade Language Arts, despite the fact that my schedule says 5th/6th grade Math
Lunch
7th/8th grade Math, despite the fact that my schedule says 5th/6th grade Language Arts
Team
CE
EXCEPT FOR
Every third Wednesday:
Spanish
Math
Lunch
5th/6th grade Language Arts
Team
CE
Then,
Thurday:
Spanish
History
Lunch
History
Team
CE
Friday:
Math
7th/8th grade Language Arts, despite the fact that my schedule says 5th/6th grade Math
Lunch
7th/8th grade Math, despite the fact that my schedule says 5th/6th grade Language Arts
Team
CE
Yeah. My schedule is just slightly messed up.
Oh, and did I mention that I’m not supposed to know it for another week and a half? My mom wanted to check with me, though, to make sure something that complicated was okay with me. Which it is.
I just hope I’ll get used to it by, say, June.
169 – My school’s a little hard for new students to get used to, so every incoming student, no matter what grade they’re in, is assigned another student to be their mentor for a little while. We’re supposed to contact them at least three times over the summer, but I wrote mine a letter and he never wrote back. And there’s no way I’m calling him, because I really dislike talking to people I don’t know on the phone. Even people I do know, for that matter.
186) Slightly messed up?
181 – Thanks. And I have started reading. Already finished two pages of college-ruled notes. I’m on page 33.
187 – It’s even funnier when I try to describe it orally. “Well, it says I’m supposed to be in Math, but I really go to Language Arts, except for every third Wednesday, when I have Spanish, and then after math I go to 5th/6th grade Language Arts despite the fact that I’m an 8th grader.”
I think you use the “gummed reinforcers” if the holes of the paper pull through the binder rings. You put one on each side of the former-holes to fix them, so you can still keep the paper in the binder without it falling out. I’ve never used them, but I suppose they could come in handy if you needed them.
Meow – Wow, I’m glad my schedule isn’t nearly that confusing.
My schedule:
1 – Individual Sports
2 – Honors English
3 – Honors Citizen/Government
4 – Honors Earth Science [I’m ACTUALLY taking biology. They bungled that.]
5 – Robotics
6 – Spanish 2
7 – Study Hall
191 – When they actually give me my schedule it’ll look normal. Like this:
Block 1 – Science
Block 2 – Math
Block 3 – History
Block 4 – Language Arts
Unfortunately, I can basically chuck that one out the window, because the classes I’m actually going to be going to are completely different.
I don’t know what my schedule is! I’ll find out on Thursday, I guess, but my English teacher mentioned seeing me first thing in the morning, so I suppose I have English first period.
(190) Ah, they’re for repairs. That makes sense. I’ve still never needed them.
Has anyone else discovered the joy of slant-ring binders, with the D-shaped rings? Ever since I discovered them, I’ve never bought another O-ring binder. They’re just a better way to store paper.
194 – I can’t stand three-ring binders, period. I always use expanding file folders. It’s just too inconvinient to have to three-hole punch everything and anything.
Robert- Yes, D-shaped rings are far superior. They also have to been on the back side of the binder, rather than the narrow middle section.
196- That might be what I have…
(194) I used them in the long ago. Only problem was they tended to fall off after awhile. Wonder if they’re any better now.
i had my first day of school yay
AP music theory-was a party. we learned about the staff. woohoo.
AP euro-feathers killed about half a million trees, as usual, and had definitely had coffee
AP stats-played with cards. legit. win.
study hall-cool people, but it’s with mrs good****. defs going to the library once it’s open. also want to try for media+culture next semester
band-party, what else is new. we rocked out at sir duke
AP lit-horger, should be fun. lots of cool people in my class
torch-the usual party
I start school tomorrow!!!! But I probably won’t be able to post as often….
AND I have to get up at 5:50 AM!! Ugh.
I am leaving for the bus stop in 5 minutes. It is hard to type because my fingers are freezing. It’s 50 degrees outside. But it is going to get up to 80, probably higher in the school since it’s been baking all summer. So I had to dress in summer clothes. And did I mention I’m FREEZING???!!???!!!!!!?? Ugh. It’s 6:37. I have to go in 3 minutes. This might be my last post for a while. Bye Muse!!!!

201-Good luck!
My schedule is messed up so that I can’t take AP World history or Creative Writing… instead I have Col. Chemistry and Math, and I can’t really get out of either of them. So it’s plain old global 10 for me, I guess… *feels dumb* There’s always smart science and math classes, but the time when the school system gives other options, I can’t take them because I’m busy taking their advanced options that they gave me in the beginning! So the only thing I can do is to try to impress my English and global teachers a lot, and see if they can feel sorry for me… XD
No, not really.
Still, I’m taking Farsi, which is possibly the most exciting thing EVER. Well, not really, but I still can’t wait.
I was going to get out of gym, too, because of dance, but now it turns out I can’t. Meh.
Since I go to a private school (and I’m only going into 8th grade), there isn’t much variety in classes. We take all 5 classes (Science, Spanish, math, language arts/English, social studies) all year round, and we don’t find out what our little “unit” thing for the trimester is going to be until we start classes.
My school is awesome and horrible at the same time. hee hee.
201) I hope you come back alive…(figuratly)
I don’t have my schedule yet…we’re supposed to get them at this “open house”. And thats on Friday.
I developed a weird habit of sleeping on the couch on weeknights. Dunno why, but it seems to get me up earlier.
I read A Separate Peace for summer reading. It was ok.
I’m back!! I survived!!!! And I think I will be able to post more than I thought I would!!! Yay!!!!
122- (Zinc, if you’re here) …
There’s a PMS school in my town, too. It’s on the north side of town and right next to the North High School.
I feel sorry for all who have to go to school right now. I think I start the latest… Maybe. I start September 3rd!!! Sept. 2nd is Freshman orientation (or however you spell it). I’m gonna be a Sophomore!
I can’t wait for some small, little things. Namely Top Orcestra. We had sooo much fun last year. I swear we goofed off half the time and were still really good. And being in the top orchestra for Youth Symphony. I got in this year!!! I’m probably gonna be last chair, but I don’t care!
I know this much of my schedule…
American Lit.
World History II
Chemistry/Physics
German II (Awesomest class ever)
IB Math Methods I (Pre-Calc equivalant [or however you spell it])
Some Elective that I don’t know because I was in California while Registration was going on
Chamber Orchestra
Kokonilly: I feel your pain. On the math thing. I could have taken Math Methods as a Frosh, but I decided to take Stats instead and lump all the Calculus together. Now I’ve forgotten practically everything I learned in Algebra II, and I’m going into a freaky class filled with Juniors, Seniors, and perhaps an 8th grader. (don’t ask, I’ll explain.)
Kokonilly: I feel your pain. On the driving thing. All of my friends took their permit test last year, and I’m gonna turn 15 in November. All of my friends will take their liscence test this year, and I will take it next year. Boo hoo.
OK, for the 8th grader thing, there’s a Middle school in my High School with the initials HSCS. I went there for middle school. Now, in my town, and elswhere, of course, middle schoolers may take high school classes if they have the appropriate prerequisite. I did that myself and took Geometry in 7th grade and Algebra II in 8th grade, along with a bunch of old friends from grade school who went to different middle schools(weird).
Now, while I was in 8th grade, a new 6th grader came to HSCS. He took Geometry. Last year he took Algebra II. This year, I don’t know WHAT he’s doing, but I will bet a lot of money that he’s not going to take Stats like I did. I’m probably going to end up in a class with him. Stinky.
End of rant. That was a long post.
I starts Sept. 2, again, and Freshman Orientation is TODAY.
What the heck do you DO there, anyway???
Aaaaagh first day of school. So, today I woke up at 5:35 AM, my bus came at 6:35 AM. When I got to school, it was 7:00 AM, and I had half an hour until classes started. Then, we started off the day with an utterly useless one and a half hour homeroom, during which we went to the sophomore assembly, basically consisting of the principal saying “don’t get yourselves in trouble, take care of the school, ——– pride, have a great first day”. After which, we went through our schedule. For today only, classes were half an hour long. First period, fine. Second period, my history teacher announces that we have a historiography test tomorrow (which I should be studying for right now, oops), the second quarter ninth grade history exam on Friday, and a practice OGT on Tuesday. Then, I get to English, and realize that all of the goof-offs are in my class. Then comes speedwriting- 14 people, counting the teacher. Fifth period is biology, and the teacher informs us that we will be doing lots of dissections this year, and aren’t we lucky to have the opportunity. Needless to say, I was thrilled. Then was geometry, which was all right, since the teacher taught me clarinet in the fifth grade. Next up was study hall, and, finally, band. In addition, we have a two-hour night rehearsal every Wednesday, so that cuts two hours out of my study time. Sophomore year is just swell so far.
207- O.o I’m very bad at math. How are you in calculus already, your brain must be full to bursting! I’m not a science whiz, I’m the more creative side of the brain pool. Not that science and math isn’t creative, it just confuzzles me. But I’m going to be first chair in orchestra, and I know it, because I listened to the orchestra last year and the cello section needs much improvement. That’s where I come in. I’ve been playing the Bach Cello suites more often now, but I’m still a tinge rusty.
208- My school+frosh orientation is Sept. 2nd.
207 – Now it’s all down to how early they need you at school. I’m Sept 3 at 8:30.
Every year, I get a sort of mix of dreading school and excitedly awaiting its arrival. Of course, I dread it a little more every year. But the great thing about going to a lab school is that you get to anticipate seeing all the ways the interns are totally inadequate.
208- That is a very good question. At my orientation, we played a bunch of stupid games, which were probably completely useless for almost everyone there, (seeing as they already knew each other), then we went to all our classes in order and were told what they were about and stuff. Then we played some more stupid games (and embarrassing, this time!), and had a barbecue.
Yay, just got back from my school’s barbeque! It was awesome. So many of the new students this year are siblings of past students. It’s really weird, particularly since me and my fellow eighth graders are supposed to be the leaders of the school this year.
It’s kind of funny. Our eighth grade class is so large that they didn’t add anybody to our grade this year, for fear that the school would burst at the seams. (Not really) But, this means that everyone in my grade this year has been here for at least other year, and there are about 40 of us who have been at the school for all four years. It’s kind of cool, because we’re all sticking together until the very end.
I cannot wait for school to start. -dies-
O.k., Has any one here become the Kid that the teacher really like, due to smartness? I’m that in:
American History
Algebra 1
Science 8
and
L.A.
11. I had to take the ISAT the week of my birthday, which is WAY worse than starting school on your birthday, trust me.
GAH.
So, I went for registration today. I got to Station 3 (schedules), smoothly and quickly. The girl who handed me my schedule told me that I was wanted in the auditorium, so I went there, and who should I meet but HF, whose senior project is a lighting design class that I would like to take. Of course, that meant I had to change my schedule around, and at first it seemed simple. I would simply drop Theater Design, move Algebra to 4th period, and put HF’s class in 6th period.
Except, of course, that Algebra wasn’t offered in 4th period. For a while, it looked as though I was have to drop HF’s class or drop an Honors class.
And then the counselor suggested that I take online math (this would also free me from Mr R**’s math class. I do not doubt that is a wonderful football coach, but as a math teacher he leaves a great deal to be desired). So this is what my schedule looks like:
1- Honors English 10
2- Spanish 2
3- Shakespeare 1
4- Theater Design
5- Accelerated Biology
6- Lighting and Technology
7- Honors Global Study
8- Reading/Advisory (Twice a week; 20 min. Thurs., 5 min. Tues.)
9– Online Math
Please note that all Honors classes and Spanish 2 are notoriously difficult.
I feel like Hermione Granger. Minus a time turner.
211- September 3rd at 7:40. Beat THAT!
216- Wow.
217 – Haha! I get to laze at home and be bored silly and do nothing at all and hate it for longer than you! By almost an hour!
Herm. I kind of want school to start, because as I said, I’m just lazing at home, being bored because I’m doing nothing because there’s nothing I can think of to do and I hate it.
YAY! School started!
My Team is awesome this year. At my school, if one sibling goes, the entire family does, so we always have tons of siblings coming in each year. There seem to be even more this year, but that’s okay because they’re all pretty cool.
It was awesomeawesomeawesomeawesome. We mostly played get to know you games, except we also decided that we want to do a white water rafting trip (the district has actually agreed to let us do it). -bounces around happily-
217, 218- *groan* I’m September third too, but 7:04.
Seven. Oh. Four.
WHY? *insert collapsing on knees and throwing hands up to the heavens here*
Meh, the first day should be nice. I don’t think we’ll have a game-playing type of freshman orientation, at least. Probably just meeting with our “big buddies” (seniors who act as our “mentors,” “guides.” We are the “little buddies.”) and the teachers, receiving lots of handouts. Having to buy 10 more binders and packs of looseleaf. Huh.
My school starts at 8:20. Except I have a math class that starts at 8:00 this year. Ickkk.
152 – Thanks! “Complete and thorough understanding” is probably never something I’ll be able to say about my grasp of any math, but at least the verbal sections of the ACT look pretty easy.
155 – 32’s really high, right? Congrats!
161 – Ouch. *sympathy pies* At least maybe you’ll be at the top of the class since you’re with the “stupid” people?
172 – That’s how my chemistry notebook was, and then after all that I never went back and read any of it.
186 –
194 – I still use some O-rings, but you’re right, the D-rings are far superior.
203 – Same here; I can’t wait to go to college so I can finally choose my classes. ^.^
207 – Yikes, I’m behind too! I might be out of high school before I even get a permit at this rate. :/
211 – This might be a stupid question, but what’s a lab school?
My school days start at 8:30, but I’m always a little late.
220- Well, at least there’s three people on this thread who start on the 3rd. THF wins for last, though.
223- I start on the 3rd. 8:04.
224- THF still wins.
Heh.
So you know, I was all agonizing over my project and like, OH NO I MUST BE PERFECT and everything. Well, I emailed my teacher and asked her how specific the notes had to be.
Her response (paraphased):
I’m not looking for anything formal…some chapters might have four or five bullet points, others might have one or two. It’s not a big deal. I’m not trying to make you spend hours on it.
Me: -dies-
I spent hours.
And hours.
And hours.
225) I start on the third. At 9:00.
Does that beat THF?
But I have to go until later than before…
226) Teachers always seem to underestimate people, huh.
NOT.
I start the fourth at (groan) 7:55am.
I really ought to do my summer reading.
And…. We have a new winner! *claps* I’m in fourth place…
229) Yaay!
228) There, there. It could be worse. Before, I had to get up at 6:50. But actually, that’s not that bad considering that my friend has to get up at 6….
230- I’m going to have to get up at 7ish since i need to walk. the wlk i won’t mind (most of the year), the time i do. But I know it could be worse. I also have friends getting up at 6.
I MAY HAVE TO GET UP AT FIVE IN THE MORNING.
My mom is driving me to school at 6:30 (there are early morning clubs I will be joining) and I always get up early to leave extra time to finish up homework I may have not finished the previous night.
I signed up for a ton of stuff: yearbook, robotics, math club, SADD, debate, mock trial…
School has actually been very fun. And, believe it or not, I can’t wait for classes. Or homework.
Yes, it’s true. I can’t wait for homework, so I won’t be so darn bored out of my mind.
230-
Actually, yviva is in 1st. I’m in 5th now. Oh, well.
My summer homework is coming along nicely. I have 2 out of 5 paragraphs done, and 200 out of 600 words. I think I’ll be able to get it done before school starts.
232- Seriously, you have that much homework???
It was funny, in middle school, they said to expect 2 hours every night and I ended up getting… maybe on average an hour a week.
Last year, as a fresman, I would say I got roughly 4 hours a week. Not bad.
Biology was the worst, though. Not in homework load, but homework stupidity. I ended up drawing a picture of a triceratops for one assignment. It’s possibly the best picture I’ve ever drawn, but that’s beside the point.
I start school on the 8th. I will have to get up at 6 because my school is an hour away from my house. Yes, I know that sounds dumb, but it’s a private school and I love it. I don’t want to do the work but I really want to see my friends (some of which I haven’t talked to all summer)!
I started school on Thursday. And, to my great astonishment, I actually finished all of my summer reading! Anthem was the easiest, being only about a hundred pages. I didn’t like it very much, though. My least favorite was Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant. It had some interesting parts, but mostly it was just tedious and dull. My favorite was actually the longest book — Native Son. I actually really enjoyed reading it, which is very surprising because I hardly ever like summer reading books.
My schedule for this year is insane. I still have no idea why I signed up for this workload:
Honors English 3 AP
Honors US History AP
Honors Spanish 5 AP
Gym
Honors Physics
Honors Elementary Functions
…and a bunch of writing classes.
I’m looking forward to all of the classes (especially US History), but it’s going to be a lot of work.
234 – Not… yet. But here is my schedule:
Ind. Sports
Hon. English 9
Hon. Am. Citizen/Gov. 9
Spanish 2
Robotics
Hon. Biology 10
Study Hall
Then, after school on Thursdays and some Tuesdays:
UMTYMP (University on Minnesota Talented Youths Math Program), Geometry and Math A.
INSANE.
I have:
Art 8
Latin 1B
Environmental Science
Chorus
Band
PE
English 8
Math IIAC (geometry)
History 8
Sewing, Jazz Improv, Health (although not now)
Hm, well, not THAT insane. *coughCat’sMeowcough* But still, I have to run all over the building.
Ind. Sports (Gym, duh)
Hon. English 9 (3rd floor, C cluster)
Hon. Am. Citizen/Gov. 9 (3rd floor, C cluster)
Spanish 2 (3rd floor, B cluster)
Lunch A (Commons)
Robotics (1st floor, B cluster)
Hon. Biology 10 (3rd floor, C cluster)
Study Hall (2nd floor, A cluster)
My locker is on the second floor, C cluster.
Then, after school on Thursdays and some Tuesdays:
UMTYMP (University on Minnesota Talented Youths Math Program), Geometry and Math A. (U of M)
It starts tomorrow.
I’m going to get up at 6:30. I know what I’m going to wear, and I’ll have lunch ready, so I’ll just have to eat breakfast, grab my bag, and go. Oh wait, breakfast.
Ugh. TOO MUCH TO DO.
-is procrastinating-
Anyway I don’t have too much running around. The longest distance is from Biology (2nd floor) to the Stage.
Now I have to go clean my room, make my lunch, pack my bag, set my alarm, lay out my clothes, make my bed, find something to eat for breakfast tomorrow, put my homework on the thumb drive…
Gah! School tomorrow! *dies* I want to go for that nice fresh start and everything, but I am going to miss the summer. And I’ll like to see everything… Okay, fine, I think tomorrow’s going to be a great day. But that doesn’t mean I’m looking forward to it. Meh.
I am looking forward to back-to-school shopping, though. Whee!
I am not looking forward to tomorrow…not exactly.
School started today!
…Not as bad as I thought.
236-i was not a fan of anthem. it’s interesting after you’ve read it, but not much fun to read.
also woo AP US. history geeks unite!
don’t worry, the euro DBQs are even MORE insane. i want to stab bias/point of view in the face. oh, for the FRQing days of AP gov…
oh and (double post sorry) the real reason for coming to this thread…i got a 50/50 on my dialectical journal. i didn’t think i’d do too badly, but i defs didn’t expect 100%
((note to all-normally i don’t mention hw assignments after they’re graded, or test grades, or anything beyond overall grades in a class but this assignment was INTENSE and i believe i was freaking out about it earlier on this thread, unless that was somewhere else. So for the .003 of you that actually follow my life, no i didn’t fail it :D))
((note two-i WILL clutter the thread or subsequent hw threads with my rough drafts and/or random ideas though, and then not tell you when i’ve finished the assignment so be ye forewarned if you a-get annoyed by scrolling through posts of ebeth or b-are depressed because i didn’t use your idea although i don’t really know how you would find that out unless you are stalking me which i believe half of you are but it’s ok because i know where you live and i can hunt you down just as easily as you found me i mean i don’t know what you mean by stalker i mean whut? who, me?))
Congratulations, Ebeth! I’m glad I don’t have to keep a dialectical journal, whatever that is.
School is awesome, awesome, awesome. Waaay more interesting then most of my summer. Human interaction! Gasp!
Woke up ten minutes ago.
It’s 6:00.
Too early.
Want to go back to sleep.
Why am I on the internet?
Too early for internetNever too early for MBCaking board of education
Too early for school
TOOOO EARLY
Good luck everyone else
Nice job Ebeth
I don’t want to go to schoooll anymoree wahhh
I haven’t read Anthem, and our library doesn’t have it… the surrounding ones don’t, either. Is it contreversial, or just under-appreciated?
I used a hair dryer for the first time in about ten bazillion years. (Well, maybe a couple months)
226–Awww…
I’ve actually been excited for school. We’ll see how it goes today…
my school signal doesn’t block this website! YAY!
I’m sitting all alone at a table in the library writing this. I’m bored.
I’m not sure whether I’m excited or dreading it. I have absolutely not cause to be nervous, but of course I am.
Anyway. I actually woke up at 5:58 and stared at the alarm clock and eluded my eager cat who wanted to sleep on my head. Then at 6:20 I realized that my alarm clock wasn’t even set properly, so I got up, got dressed, and woke up my mother to tell her the smoke detector was malfunctioning. It actually just needs a new battery, ’cause it keeps beeping.
Then I parted my hair on the side. Which I haven’t done since last year at the beginning of school.
I’m leaving in a few minutes. Wish me luck.
We take pictures on the first day of school (WHY???) so I’m wearing my Edwardian dress. Ha. I’d like to see anyone in my school beat me at weirdness! Except Eva. Eva could do it.
Good luck Alice! (although you are already at school by now)
what the heck? why am I even on here? I’m supposed to be writing a 4 page report…
NO HOMEWORK! NO HOMEWORK! w00t!
254) YEAH!
But last year she was really bossy and bossed me and my other friends around and I want to keep some distance from her. But she keeps on coming up to me and I don’t want this year to be like last year. I also don’t want to be too mean, because then she’ll tell all her followers bad stuff about me (she did this to one of my friends).
But I have a slight problem. I’m not sure if this should go on this particular thread, but it’s slightly related to school, so oh well.
I have almost ALL my classes with this girl who I really don’t want to have to talk to because I don’t really want to be her friend. Wow, that sounds really mean.
And to top it all off, Orchestra is on my schedule and I forgot to tell my teacher that I didn’t want to do it anymore.
But other than that, Middle school has been really fun.
Oh, and here’s my schedule:
Home room
Reading
Science
English
Band/Orchestra
LUNCH!
Social Studies
Accelerated Math
Family Consumer Sciences
Gym/Music.
Sorry if my complaints are really annoying.
I’m surprised to actually hear myself say (write) this, but I actually really like my classes. All of the teachers are really good, despite the fact that they assign so much homework that even if I start right when I get home from school, I don’t finish until well past midnight.
My English teacher is obsessed with grammar, which is really awesome since I really like grammar and learning about it and such. US History is my favorite class — the teacher is reallly funny, and presents the material really well. Unfortunately, that is also the class with the most homework. He assigns about 3 hours of homework per class (which meets every other day, so it’s about 1.5 hours/night), and it’s really difficult.
Spanish is definitely my hardest class. I have the same teacher I’ve had for Spanish 3 and 4, and she’s a really good teacher, but I still have a lot of trouble. It’s just hard to keep up and follow everything — but maybe that’s because in Spanish 3 and 4 we had to cram and entire year’s worth of material into one semester. My Physics teacher is amazing. She’s also said to be absolutely insanely difficult, but I think I’ll actually learn something. Same with Elementary Functions.
255- Just tell her to leave you alone!
So. I got to school, wandered around some, and then HF was like, “Hey, Alice, go look at your schedule! There’s been a little change!” So I went and got my new schedule, and, lo and behold, I don’t have a 6th period! This is because Light Design got moved to 4th so I had to drop Theater Design. Unfortunately, this means I now have an hour and a half to fill with something. The logical thing to do would be to take Algebra 6th period, but that would mean I would have a class with that teacher, and I already suffered through a semester of Pre-Al with him and I never want to do it again.
These are my classes:
1st: English! This is a cool class. I think it’s going to be fun, even if we have to do ridiculously simple vocab words.
2nd: Spanish. Ugh. No one in this class wants to concentrate, I can just tell. They were all talking while the teacher was trying to explain class rules and stuff. On the bright side, Sra P actually talks in Spanish, something Sra G never did.
3rd: Shakespeare! w00t! it was funny.
Mr H: Everyone sucks at Shakespeare in the beginning, unless they’re really nerdy and read Shakespeare in their free time.
Several people: -look at me-
Me: Heheh.
Mr H: (later) Sorry I inadvertently called you a nerd.
Me: That’s OK.
4th: Lighting Design! YES. This promises to be an amazing class. It’s just me, W, ZP, and HF, who’s teaching. Yayness! And we went up in “Heaven” which is where you access all the lights, and there’s this pink insulation everywhere and little boardwalks over it. It’s sweet.
5th: Accelerated Bio. Funfun. Exciting.
6th: NADA. I might actually take Algebra. I mean, I’m sure to switch at the semester, and how hard can it be? One class with Mr R. As long as it isn’t the same kids as last time. -dies- Or I could take Intro to Strings, or Digital Photography, or Creative Writing, or Geology. Trouble is, the second and third options would require me to move Spanish to 6th period, meaning I’d be back with Mrs G who never speaks Spanish, and the last is taught by a creepy fellow.
7th: Honors Global Studies. Hardcore. We can into the room, and there was a stack of desks in the middle. Well, more like a pile. And when everyone was finally sitting down, there were like, forty people! Madness! And then Mr F, um, spoke very emphatically. And we had to answer a bunch of questions about the Purpose of Mankind and the Beginning of the World, and the Future of Our Species, and then we talked about worldview, and then he told us about his wife, and then we went over the syllabus.
All in all, it was a good day, with some frustration, and a lot of new Freshmen, and too many syllabi.
258 – Are you serious??? That sounds like the coolest day ever!!!! Sucks that you had to drop Theater design, though. And also, I mean, you learn! Probably better than my day, anyway.
259- The only things that kept it from being the best day ever were dropping Theater Design, having a stressful empty period, and the fact that halfway through the day my floor-length dress ceased to feel exciting and strange and just became a nuisance.
Alice- I know a lot depends on the teacher, but I really liked my Algebra class. And I like Algebra in general. I took Algebra in 8th grade, and it was one of my favorite classes I took in my entire time at that school (which I attended K-8). Algebra 2 last year wasn’t quite as fun, but I learned a lot and now I can do all sorts of fun complicated equations.
Funny, I never thought of myself as a math person. I think I have a weak spot for Algebra.
I’ve reached Hermione Granger status with my Core teacher. If she asks a question, and I’m the only one to raise my hand, she says, “Anyone BESIDES Robin?” Then someone tentatively raises there hand, she calls on them, I cross my arms, slouch, and put on my frustrated face.
Funny school story:
My math teacher was passing out textbooks last week, and she gave me #41. I asked her if I could have 42 instead. She looked at me strangely, then said, “Oh, I see. You’re one of those people.”
It was really funny.
Here’s my schedule-
Core- LA
Core- Reading
BREAK!
Core- Social Studies
MAD DASH ACROSS CAMPUS IN THREE MINUTES! (?!)
Pre Algebra
LUNCH!
PE
Adv. Band
Earth Science
SCHOOL IS OVER!
Wait for Mum under tree reading
Comin Soon!
Wait for Mum in library reading old copies of Muse. (Seriously, they’re from 2001.)
263 (Purple Panda): I don’t get it–what’s the significance of the #41????????
265- Have you read the first book of HG2G?
265 (LtL): There’s no significance of #41. It’s the 42 that is significant.
265- It’s the meaning of life, 42 is.
My homeschool stuff 6th Grade
History- Romans (very cool)
Science- Chemistry (wOot, atoms are amazing)
Lunch- 30 minutes
Math- Saxon math (ugh, unless it’s Algebra…)
Literature- Shakespeare (One of my favorite classes)
265- But we’ll never know the question, that’s the tricky bit.
Example of my OCD-ness:
In Spanish, the teacher was passing out textbooks and I got #199. It’s still tormenting me. One more…
kay I’m pretty short myself but there are some tiny freshmen floating around this year. median height is going down, methinks.
258) my envy for a Shakespeare class is overflowing. I’m trying to find time to read more shakespeare since we hardly cover anything of his in class but it’s so haaaard
my schedule is cool this year.
268- Not the meaning of life. The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
270- It’s not necessarily true that we’ll never know the question. In fact, once upon a time someone did figure it out. The tricky part is figuring it out without the Earth being destroyed first. However, if philosophers are correct, I don’t think it would be in our best interests to discover it.
273- The meaning of life is life itself. Enjoy it fully, and it will have purpose.
