I love Thanksgiving. It’s the only holiday where you are allowed to stuff yourself with very unhealthy food and then sleep for hours. It’s basically an excuse to be lazy.

    First post?

Thanksgiving (United States) is on my birthday this year. I don’t like it when that happens.

I’ve never been a fan of Thanksgiving. The holiday itself is a good idea, I just don’t like the food part; sitting down for a really long and big meal is definitely not my idea of fun.

I’m going to my grandparents’ house, where my 24 cousins, 10 aunts and uncles, assorted great grandparents, and 40 something in-laws shall gather in a tiny cottage to eat a badly cooked meal in… 5 separate rooms. (one for the teenagers, one for the wee-uns, one for the adults, one for the in-laws, one for the olds). Twill be fun! And my aunt Lizzie and uncle Mike will be coming from England this year; I can see my baby cousin Gabriel for the fisrt time!!!

I don’t have a clue what I’m doing–all I know is I won’t be going home (too expensive), and I won’t be staying in my dorm (it’s closed for holiday breaks. So, I really dunno…..It will be my first Thanksgiving away from home, though.

Thanksgiving is usually fairly informal for my family… we’re all vegan (for those of you who don’t know, that means no meat, no dairy products), so the food is nothing special. We usually just sit down and eat and talk about life, the universe, and everything. All our relatives live half-way across the country, so not much family bonding time. Over all, not my favorite holiday, but we do get less school. :P

I’ll be doing what my family always does- we flock to someone’s house. The aunts all cook, the youngest cousins play, and the guys lounge around, talk, and watch football. Then we eat, then it’s back to football for me. We do the same thing for Christmas, New Years, Easter, and any major in-family celebrations. Heck, we’ve got one this weekend- my cousin’s getting married.

Yeah, I like Thanksgiving. Besides, there’s no school.

they don’t have thanksgiving in Europe… (sniff)
i could use some more holidays- somebody put this on the to-do list of “mostly harmless”. Kokopelli Day or HotPinkCarrot Day would be cool.

P.S: does anybody here know that bill clinton gave presidential pardon to his turkey ? no kiddding !

Thanksgiving Break! I’d forgotten about it!
18-According to wikipedia, the pardoning tradition appears to have started w/ George H. W. Bush. It could have started earlier, however.

25–yes, most US schools give a Thanksgiving “break”. However, for elementary through highschool, they usually just get Thankisgiving (Thurs), and then Friday off, giving a four day weekend. In college, however, it is not uncommon to get the entire week off. Least ways, my school is giving us the entire week of Thanksgiving off, and my sister’s school just started doing that this year, so we will hopefully get together…..since neither are gong home. *sniff* so sad!!!!!
