  1. A new volume! This calls for cream puffs. The wungs have come up with a recipe that they say has a “surprise” inside. I’m not sure what it is, but it tastes…sparkly? A bit like a miniature firework goes off when you bite into it. Very nice with a cuppa to wash it down.

  2. I think weather this hot necessitates ice cream sandwiches. The wungs thought they would be clever by making them inside-out, but if you eat them quickly enough, your fingers don’t get too sticky. The neapolitan ones are interesting–the ice cream is all chocolate, and it’s the cookie inside that’s three different flavors.

    1. I have to give them credit — it’s a delightfully creative dessert! And it has the honor of being only the second (I think?) ice cream dessert I’ve been inspired to attempt with fork and knife.

…well, if you ignore the mess, it almost worked!

      1. I think they’re starting to get carried away, because the wungs have now similarly applied their delightful creativity to some ice cream cones. It’s really not clear to me how we’re expected to eat these… or even hold them, for that matter….

        1. One shudders to imagine the messy repercussions should their ambitions expand to updating the beloved chocolate fountain. I may take the liberty of moving some of the more delicate furniture to higher ground. Just in case, you know.

  3. If anyone has an appetite, the wungs are getting impatient at how long it’s taking me to eat the loaf of pumpkin bread they’ve baked to match (in shape, size, and weight) the newest holder of the “largest pumpkin” world record. I’m just grateful we already had a knife large enough to slice it.

    1. Alas, I fear I am too late to assist with this food. Surely it must have spoiled by now? It’s a shame. This is a lovely-looking spot, and quite cozy to boot.

      1. Never fear, there’s always some unexpected comestible about! How about one of these green pastry things? I think they’re avocado flavored, but you never can be sure here.

        1. I might give it a go, but if the flavor is Avocado then I’ll have to pass. Not a fan of the Sloth Bear’s Delight, I’m afraid.

  4. I owe more of a post here (and will fulfill that obligation), but for now I have to offer birthday felicitations to Piggy while I can catch the actual day! Cheers from across the expanse of the web, friend!

    1. Thank you, dear friend! I’ve been so busy playing the Oblivion remaster, I almost forgot to check in here. As usual, the wungs put together a Tower of Hanoi made out of doughnuts as a birthday cake (the posts are candles). So far, I have no complaints about being 31.

  5. Gracious! I thought I was never going to get out of there. In was in the walk-in freezer looking for another lychee popsicle when that big stack of ice sculptures collapsed, the ones the wungs have been working on, the full set of Roman basilicas in 1:200 scale. They fell right across the doorway–the wungs did, I mean. They were distraught (“they” being the wungs again, not the basilicas). The only real damage was a few broken columns on the façade of St. Mary Major, so once we got those repaired, the wungs let me out. I’m freezing.

    Anyone want a popsicle?

  6. Pretty cold and rainy today, so I asked the wungs to make some pumpkin oatmeal. They insisted on calling it “pumpkidge” despite my protests, but it’s warm and comforting anyway. They added the tiniest sprinkle of habanero powder, which makes the cinnamon taste… 3D? Not sure how to describe it. Maybe how colorblind people feel when they wear those glasses for the first time. Anyway, the pot’s still keeping warm over on the stove there, so get a bowl from the cupboard and help yourself if you want some.

  7. Isn’t this scaffolding beautiful? The wungs say they found it in the antique shop next to the old haunted mansion at the end of the road. When I told them that I had never seen a haunted mansion anywhere around here, they just turned shimmery and smelled like cobwebs, so I guess they must be telling the truth. The scaffolding looks like it was all hand-turned on a lathe, beautifully shellacked with all sorts of bobbly bits sticking out like a Victorian jungle gym. The wungs seem to be enjoying the construction, anyway. They have been getting a bit bored around here–that’s the only reason I can think of for their weekly rewallpapering they’ve taken up.

    1. Change can feel a little strange, I’ll concede. But then again, I vastly prefer it to their velvet and macramé phase.
