Shouldn’t it be Casablanca Chess?
No, it was named after its inventor. See the explanation on Weird Chess Experiments.
Do you have your account? Ready to play?
No, I need to wait for my dad to log me on, as my account is an extention of his. . Hey, dad?
I logged in, and now I’m waiting for cromwell.
Cromwell! Come Come Come Come Come Come Come Come Come Come Come Come

It’s sorta annoying that you only have one chancellor and one archbishop.
If you had more of them, you’d never use your ordinary knights and bishops at all.
But now
now that I’m older and I’m not so self assured…
Help me if-
Um…right.
Maybe you could play this with a normal chessboard at home if you took out the chancellor and just replaced bishops with archbishops.
My first piece to be taken…
Black could have taken it on move 8. It’s been sitting there vulnerable all that time, and neither of you noticed.
My queen was also very vulnerable for a time, too.
Now it is (or rather, was).
Ouch. Enceladus, before moving, you should look at what you can take. Your queen could have captured the pawn on c4 and made a lot of trouble for White.
Fushia colored panda nibbles! Why didn’t I see that?
You just need to look more carefully. See what your pieces are pointing at. Do you use the double-arrow button to flip the board so you can see it from Black’s point of view? If you don’t, that might help.
Last move, you could have taken White’s chancellor with your knight on d8, thereby exposing White’s archbishop to possible capture by your rook on h8.
I keep forgetting how much my chancellor is worth-it’s as good as a queen or better. I wish I had realized that before.
Umm… Robert, there seems to be a problem. I can’t move.
SFTDP
I can move, but I could only capture.
It’s because your king was in check, and your next move had to be one that would get him out of it. Any other move would have been illegal, and the chess software wouldn’t let you make it.
Dur. I should have recognized that.
On a completely random topic, “Dur” is apparently a word. (When are you going to get the Sci Fi RPG up, Robert?)
‘Tis up.
In British English, “dur” is pronounced the way Americans pronounce “duh.” In the same way, characters in Harry Potter often say “erm” where Americans would say “um” — again, almost the same pronunciation but very different spellings.
It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
He said he was going to be away for three weeks, so you’re going to be waiting even longer.
That’s interesting. In about three weeks I’m going away for four weeks.
This is going to be an interesting chess game…
Mate.
Not yet.
He takes with knight, I take knight with queen.
Which still isn’t checkmate, thanks to the chancellor.
Okay. I take chancellor. Mate. I knew when I posted 18 that I would have to take the knight, but I meant it was inevitable.
I don’t want to play Black’s game for him, so I’ll just note that… [self-snipped to avoid playing Enceladus’s game for him].
Yes, that would be terrible. Who would even dream of you doing such a thing as playing for someone else?
There. I’ve removed the explanation.
Wait-you didn’t get it? Do you remember my last game?
Oh, that: Sequoia vs. cromwell, and the notorious GAPA power play. I’m not doing anything like that here — just noting that it’s premature for White to announce an impending forced mate.
See why it’s called an “Eterna-ment”?
Cromwell: It’s your move. Enceladus has been waiting since July 20.
I was at camp.
Welcome back! Did you have fun?
The chess account won’t work. I couldn’t get it to go. I’m logged in, but it still says closed game.
Enceladus: Oddly, some people aren’t having problems. What is your browser? Internet Explorer?
I suppose I’d better zap the new software and go back to the old version. I just hope that the upgrade hasn’t changed our database so that that doesn’t work, either.
I’ve tried both IE and Mozilla Firefox.
Ah, wait. It now works on Mozilla Firefox
Your move, Enceladus.
Oh, I made a stupid ish move. I hope cromwell doesn’t notice his opportunity.
Actually, Enceladus, you made the only move that wouldn’t have resulted in immediate checkmate.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don’t tell cromwell.
Depends how you define immediate.
Depends how you define immediate…
The chancellor strikes back!
I saw that coming when I made the move, I just didn’t see any other way, so I just hoped enceladus wouldn’t notice. Of course I have another plan.
I find that it’s not a good policy to make deliberately weak moves in the hope that your opponent will blunder. Even when it works, it makes you lazy.
Here, cromwell…. Here, cromwell…
Since I cannot make a move, can you make it for me?
Ag7
cromwell: Are you getting “closed board” messages, too? That seems to be a problem for people who use Internet Explorer 8. The programmer is working on it and promises a solution soon.
Black’s 24th move is forced, as he’s in check and can move to only one square.
Enceladus! Your move!
Enceladus: As your move was forced, I’ve made it for you to keep things, well, moving. Now it’s cromwell’s turn.
Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking “WTC?”
I wouldn’t have intervened for a real move, but there didn’t seem to be a reason to make cromwell wait for a move that was literally a no-brainer.
25. …Cd2+, 26. …Cxc2+, and 27. …Cxa1 would have been good for Black and troublesome for White. A check isn’t always the best move, but it’s usually worth looking at. (White could have prevented it by 25. Ac3.)
Enceladus: Your move (number 27).
I can’t move. I can make a move, but it doesn’t do anything.
Enceladus: You seem to have regained the ability to move. If you haven’t, though, you can tell me what you want to do, and I’ll edit the move into the game.
(After Black’s 28th move, …Ce7.)
Neither Black nor White seems to have noticed that Black’s pawn could have taken White’s rook on d3. Careless!
Quite true.
I’m not going to say that it’s about to be checkmate, but I sure hope it is.
Yes, it is. Do you want the satisfaction of having it say you won, or should I just resign?
SFTDP. I’m tired of waiting (about 3 seconds) for moderation. I’ll just move.
Enceladus: If you resign by hitting the skull-and-crossbones button at the top of the board, then it will record a win for cromwell.
Ok.
White wins.
I was going to wait for a resignation, but I got impatient.
Congratulations, cromwell!
