    Resolutions…

    1) Work on art more
    2) Go down to the river on a day that there are NOT [mostly drunk] people in the camp and sketch
    3) Cut a fleeping path down to the river…in the spring
    4) Excercise more- and ski a lot in the field, hopefully grow slightly better at not wiping out…
    5) Try to stand up for the things I believe in more…
    6) Draw until I can actually draw
    7) Paint. A lot.
    8) Write the book I’ve been rolling around in my head- but once it’s NaNo; I’m still sick of writing
    9) Study for and take the SATs. Don’t ask me why I agreed to take them in the first place. Of course, it’s not like I’m going to actually not fail it, but whatever. I’m in seventh grade.
    10) Make three skirts.
    11) Try and dress Steampunk.
    12) Stop being so lazy.
    13) Build a fort on the river.
    14) Make some new friends. (In 8th grade, which is technically this year, so it counts.)

Is “fleeping” a creative euphemism or an actual thing that the path is intended for?

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      • Mikazuki says:

Creative euphemism. Where I intend to cut the path is thorny, hilly, tricky, annoying, bushy, impossibly hard to navigate, and it goes over the railroad tracks, so if we’re caught on it we’re trespassing and we’ll get fined. Oh, and everything grows back over the summer, so it’s pretty much hopeless, but oh well.

        I look forward to it.

    – get through at LEAST the 3rd, 4th, and 5th doctors

    – knit a 4th doctor scarf

    – get better grades (may directly interfere with the above two)

    – read more (i’ve fallen off reading a LOT. spending all my free time being social or something, what is this)

    – another successful nanowrimo, not like last year’s two-day fail

    – sleep more (may directly interfere with everything above)

    – up my convention attendance (i’ve never been to ohayocon or origins, and i’d like to go to those. MARCon is an absolute must, and i’ll probably go to mid-ohiocon again, it was fun. hopefully next year i’ll go with a better knowledge of comics and appreciate it more)

    – dye my hurrr? i might next week. we’ll see.

    – kokon lots! (starting next weekend :P)

    • Pseudonym says:

      1. I learned about 3 chords, which is more than last year but does not count as ‘knowing how to play the guitar.’ I did learn baritone saxophone though.
      2. I realized that I actually find drawing extremely frustrating and prefer writing.
So, neither of these were accomplished.
      Resolutions for this year:
Watch as many meteor showers as possible.
      Finish this year’s NaNoWriMo novel.

Just a few informal ones that I’ve been working on for a while. They don’t really count if you start them in September, do they? I’ve been trying to study more, procrastinate less, and do more constructive things in my spare time. The internet, unfortunately, doesn’t count as constructive. Especially facebook and qwop. Museblog… maybe. ;)

  13. Bibliophile says:

1: Catch up on schoolwork; I’m not doing nearly enough assignments per day (I’ve been sick for months, so I can’t always work, and I’m way behind.I’m in virtual school.). Whether I accomplish this will certainly effect whether or not I get to do anything else on my list…
2: Exercise. This is necessary, since I don’t have PE, but I haven’t been doing it much at all.
3: Study more for district-wide spelling bee in February and for once not misspeaking (i.e. spelling xylophone as “xylopone,” as I did last year– obviously, I know that there’s an H, but I have a problem with accidentally saying something other than what I mean during spelling bees, probably due to nerves) and losing for that reason (I wouldn’t so much mind losing due to not knowing the word, as that’s bound to happen anyway at some point; I just want to do the best I can for once.)
4: Listen to (or at least read the transcripts of) all MuggleCast Episodes.
    5: Write more.
    6: Do more art.
7: Memorize the elements song (I promise I didn’t steal the idea from Choklit Orange; I thought of it as soon as I heard the song.
8: Buy lots of Muse Back Issues
9: Learn more about medicinal herbs
10: Memorize more digits of pi.
11: Start collecting extremely odd stuffed animals (as in wongai ningauis and that sort of thing)
    12: Get into birdwatching.

    1. Watch all the original Doctor Who episodes
    2. Have a normal conversation with my brother
    3. Go running often
    4. Get at least 5.0 on the 40 yard dash (haven’t timed myself yet)
    5. Get all A’s and A-‘s (mainly concerned with French)
    6. Skip school at least three times (in conflict with number 5)
    7. Grow another two inches
    8. Make the freshman football team (MAJOR problem with that one)

Assuming you’re in US, and assuming that your school doesn’t have a girl’s football team, you are within your rights to play on the team under Title IX, assuming you do well enough in try-outs. So, practice!

  15. starr says:

I already posted some of mine towards the end of the December Random Thread, but I’ll re-post a list here because I have more to add:

    1) Be more organized, especially in my desk/room
    2) Stay more active (Make running more of a priority outside of my normal sports seasons)
    3) Play basketball more (I know, I know. I have a lot of fitness related ones, but I would really like to improve my basketball skills so I can continue to play at the high school level next year. It’s like my…I don’t know, sports have kept me sane through a lot of stuff, so I don’t want to slack it off now.)
    4) Write! Write! Write! (And do a “proper” attempt at NaNo)
    5) Not be bored during the summer and find ways to make myself busy.
    6) Get good grades! (Or continue to, at least…)

    I think that’s all…

    • Ginger says:

Have fun writing! My 2010 resolution was to attempt writing (even the shortest of things) at least every day, so it would become easier over time. It was really dull and boring at first, but I usually managed to write about a page a day in my 8.5 x 11″ notebook. Maybe you could do something like this on that side! However, it’s just a suggestion if you like to write. Because it contributes in triggering thoughts for other stories, it may prove to be helpful. Well, good luck on NaNo! (I’m trying my hand at NaNo this year, as well!)

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
    • Cat's Eye says:

I actually figured out the reason why I do NaNo recently: for the moment when I ask my mom, “So if I punctured the artery in a small sixteen-year-old boy’s arm, how long would it take him to bleed to death?” and look up and see the expression on her face. I would go through every late night, tangled plot, and unshakeable sense of despair just to have that moment again. And I will!

Morris dance more than ever! See above.

If you want an indoor plant, a philodendron is very, very hard to kill. Just be careful: ten years later, that innocent foot-tall plant might septuple its size and dominate your room.

      • Choklit Orange says:

Have you been watching Little Shop of Horrors? :D.

Actually, my cousin sent me a Blanket of Snow plant, whatever that is, and I smuggled some peppermint seeds in from CA (oh terrible, terrible me).

How do you get rid of a flourishing plant? I mean, suppose I do grow a philodendron, and it actually survives and septuples in size and I move back *crossed fingers* to CA- I can’t exactly throw the thing out, but I don’t know any of our neighbors well enough to give them a plant… ah well. We’ll cross that bridge if my plant survives.

  19. oobatooba says:

Grow a plant without killing it… you should get an air plant. They live off of moisture in the atmosphere so they never need watering, and are practically un-killable by neglecting them, and they look nice too!

    My resolutions:
    1. Finish my third comic + help friends with their various web comics (this seems to be a common one)
    2. Bug my parents enough that they’ll let me watch Dr.Who (I scored a victory for Star Trek last year, so we’ll see…)
    3. Complete my resolutions (yeah right)
    4.complete that resolution
    5. spread the Game ( I lost the game!)
6.stall while I try to think up more good resolutions
    7. Um……
    8. Ever get anything done in general (like this list)

I also vow never to eat pickled herring on new years, regardless of how much good luck it’s supposed to be.

  20. Midnight Fiddler says:

Hm. I hadn’t really thought too much about resolutions. I generally just think of things I want to do and then try to go with them as I can.
But as for things that I would like to accomplish, in no particular order:

-be more motivated (which translates to getting college and summer job apps in)

-dress fearlessly, which includes but is not limited to: learning to sew things properly and making/modifying my own clothes, perhaps taking a knitting class, and not worrying about what anyone else thinks about how I dress myself, getting rid of clothes I hate but keep for convenience (except for work grubbies, those I shall keep and wear only when I’m working grubbily.)

-piss off my mom, uh, I meant “form opinions and state them clearly, eloquently and politely without backing down if it clashes with other’s viewpoints. Even if it clashes with the viewpoint of She Who Is Making Dinner. If it gets that bad, make your own dinner in a dignified manner.”

-get my financial stuff together. As in, put all the allowance I’ve been hoarding away in my sock drawer into my actual bank account, and have dad start paying my allowance in checks, which I will deposit on a regular basis instead of toting around in my wallet for ages until I get to it.

-speak out for justice. Remember that I’ve been the one picked on, and that is a very good reason to stand up for and befriend them, instead of jumping on the bandwagon to avoid reliving those times and becoming a target again.

-read, dream and make more music for the fun of it. Run through the woods and chase squirrels like I used to. Well, maybe not chase squirrels, but keep that energy and wonder. Run around in zig-zags and pretend I’m chasing squirrels.

-go contra dancing more often, and hopefully build up dancing muscles so each time I go I don’t limp for a week afterward.

-read, read, read. Read classics, read non-fiction, read things I like, read things I disagree with, have conversations about books and with books. Read for fun, read for learning, read for enlightenment….just read. Burn through books like I used to. Turn off the cell phone and computer and maybe even the music and just get lost in the pages.

-write. Improve my handwriting, use a fountain pen instead of a pencil all the time. Learn different scripts, learn to write in 17th century style, or 18th century style, or both. Write out the poetry and short stories that are always floating around captive in my head. Put them on paper, and if they suck, say it’s handwriting practice. If they work, share them.

-get a good camera and take pictures. Lots of pictures. Don’t feel weird about loads of self-portraits. Explore new ways of looking at the world. Draw things, too. Draw the things you can’t express in a photo. Stop being worried about the terrible sketches and start looking more.

-reach out to people. Offer friendship to others instead of waiting for them to make the first move. Share life.

-speak clearly and authoritatively. Get rid of extraneous “like’s” and “um’s”. Use more descriptive and interesting words.
