Oh cake. *missed opportunity facepalm*
Yup, I know the feeling.
I don’t know a whole lot about how chess games usually look, but it seems like this is something of a helter-skelter game. Am I wrong there?
THF: So far (through White’s sixth move) it’s been altogether straightforward and comme il faut. Both players are mobilizing their pieces and occupying the center of the board, where most of the action is likely to start. Good players don’t usually stick their necks out early with obvious, easily countered threats — especially when playing other strong players.
I guess you’re right, Robert; I was seeing pieces take spaces in the center of the board, and tightly-packed seemed practically random to me so I assumed that’s what it was. What I took for disorder is now seeming like eerily similar styles of playing. I’m excited to see how this unfolds.
Hi, bookgirl_me! I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be camping with my family this weekend, so I probably won’t move for a couple of days (I’m leaving tomorrow afternoon and returning Sunday afternoon, I believe). Good game!
Have fun camping!
(Move 25.) This game is getting exciting!
I’m going to Egypt for a week-I don’t think I’ll have internet. Sorry for the wait. You can make make my next move for me anyway: after 27. Rxe8+ Kh7 is only choice I have.
Have a wonderful trip!
(27) A classic position: queen versus two rooks. Now it comes down to which player will be able to grab more of the other’s pawns while defending ens own.
And yet again the backwards pawns will come back to haunt me.
That is a really interesting game! I am awful at chess.
Ahh! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Gosh, this is the sort of thing that I would have seen INSTANTLY if I were playing on a real board–and definitely would have caught before I took my hand off of the piece. Online chess, though…not so much.
Darn.
Pan,
Maybe you should play on a real board and just use the online one to enter moves.
bookgirl,
28. … Qxc2 would have been stronger, I think. If 29. Rxd6, you could have played Qc1+, Qf4+, and Qxd6, winning the rook.
Oops. Missed that. I’m too used to playing defensively and didn’t think past Qc1+.
Pan- It takes some getting used to. I know the feeling.
If I had one piece of chess-playing advice to give MBers, it would be this: “Always assume that you have an awesome move and look hard for it before settling for a less-than-awesome one.” It’s painful to see so many people missing killer moves because they don’t believe they’re there. If nothing else, they should check out all their checks.
Robert- yes, I definitely think I have to do that.
And also, that last move, I promise promise promise I meant to move it to c7, but I think I was so preoccupied with making sure that I didn’t make another treacherous mistake, I hit the wrong space (I also have a tap-click mouse, which has also been causing me lots of problems lately). Can you move it? Is that okay?
bookgirl_me — I’ll be away this weekend (leaving Thursday, returning Sunday) with questionable internet access, so I may not move during that time. I’ll check the game Thursday morning before I leave, and then on Sunday evening when I get back!
I’m staying at my grandmother’s, so my internet is rather patchy at the moment. Don’t worry about it.
Bookgirl_me, Clara (Pan) is going to the emergency room and she will be gone for a few days (or as long as a few weeks).
Emergency room?! I hope she’s okay. Get well soon!
Hello, bookgirl_me! I’m back from the hospital for now, but I might be having surgery next week, which would put me out of chess playing for an additional week-ish.
As long as you’re okay. I hope it all goes well.
It will be so good to see White’s 46th move — for reasons that have nothing to do with the game.
I agree.
Hello hello!
My surgery on Friday was very successful, which is really really really really good! I’ve been getting better every day, and I might be able to go home on Thursday or Friday.
I’ll probably post more about the surgery, etc. later (I got pictures, too!), but I think my mind is finally clear enough-ish to play chess, so here I am!
Welcome back, Pan!
I’m glad you’re okay and that everything went well and all
This endgame reminds me of the Black Knight scene from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”
I’m invincible!
What are you going to do, bleed on me?
Hey bookgirl, after you finish this game I’d love to play you!
Sure, though I can’t promise I’ll be too reliable with school and everything right now
Game created, bookgirl to move.
‘Tis but a scratch!
I’ll bite your legs off! (By which I mean, good game!)
Agreed. Good game!
