Minecraft! Full game! And my iPod is here. It’s shiny and white and the back isn’t cloudy and scratched yet.
I’m staying with the pre 5 because of the door glitch, I’ll get it when that’s fixed
I was really excited about the minecraft pocket, but now I’m not sure I’m going to buy it. It’s basically Alpha, no crafting, just placing blocks
The door glitch was fixed one or two releases ago.
I have Pocket. It’s good. I mean, if you have the choice between the full PC version or Pocket, PC is the obvious winner. But if you’re on the road and need your Minecraft fix, it’s just fine – not to mention that if you and a buddy have it you can play together over wifi. It’s worth it, in my opinion.
My brother is addicted to Minecraft now. I still don’t see its mass appeals. Digging. Woo.
It’s not about digging. It’s about creating. It’s like Legos, taken to the next evolution.
Imagine if you could take Legos, build a giant tower out of them in seconds and then set the tower on fire and watch it burn from the ground up.
If that’s not awesome, I don’t know what is.
That’s what I thought at first too. Play it. Open your mind, and soon you too shall see the light.
asdfghjkl; Okay, slash the digging, replace with building. But I was never that into Legos anyways. My brother was. I concede defeat *throws hands into air in defeat*
I got Halo CE anniversary! I already beat it!
Dude. Beast. I love the original so much.
I have to decide between two $9.99 Tim Schafer games. Should I get Secret of Monkey Island or Psychonauts?
Never mind, I ended up getting Psychonauts because it went on sale. Fantastic game.
I got Super Mario 3D Land today… It’s pretty good! World 1 is very easy, but I’ve seen screenshots of other levels and they look amazing. Looking forward to it!
Real life
Why don’t you want me to play Skyward Sword until Christmas??
Okay, guys.
Has anyone else played VVVVVV?
Anyone know what kind of a graphics card you would need to play Skyrim, even on mininum settings. Would this work: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430?
It may simply refuse to run. I mean, a GPU isn’t the only thing that factors into it. Processor, RAM, those both matter too. These are the specs for my rig, although I have Skyrim on the PS3, not my computer.
ATI Radeon HD 6850 1GB
AMD Phenom X4 (quad core) @ 2.8GHz x 4
4GB RAM
750w PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
BUT THERE IS HOPE FOR YOU YET!
These here are the minimum sysreqs for Skyrim. MINIMUM.
Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
2GB System RAM
6GB free HDD Space
Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM
DirectX compatible sound card
Internet access for Steam activation
Run dxdiag and device manager and get me your specs. Full specs. Graphics card AND its RAM, regular RAM, HDD space, every little detail. Then I can tell you if it’ll run, which it may well.
Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Dual core processor 2200 2.0 Ghz
RAM: 2.00 GB
OS: Windows Vista
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
System type: 32 bit
HDD: 28.4 GB free of 138 GB
Hmmmm….. What is dxdiag….. *types into start menu* *Aha*
Direct X Version: DirectX 11
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
♦ DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
♦ Approx Total Memory: 825 MB
Yeah… That’s about all I found, I don’t know what a lot of that means. Seems like I meet the minimums. Thanks for the help!
Yes, you should be able to run it. But I recommend putting the settings on very low. It’ll look a bit funny, but the experience will still be great.
YESSSS!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
Now hopefully I’ll get it for Christmas
Thank you, Castle. That has focused my thoughts. My current PC doesn’t meet the spec.
So, everyone, should I ….
1) Get a new PC to play Skyrim, keeping the old, STABLE computer for sensible, work-related activities?
2) Get an Xbox with Skyrim?
3) Get a PS3 with Skyrim?
4) Follow the suggestion (Demand?) of several veteran Musebloggers and get a Wii so I can play Zelda?
5) Act like a responsible adult and get a life?
Oh, please, not 5!
Get the Wii, I say. When your current computer gives up the ghost sometime down the road and you have to get a new one, Skyrim should be comfortably within its playable range.
4. Get a Wii, get Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess, then get Ocarina of Time off of the Wii Shop.
Oh, who am I kidding. You’re Paul Baker.
What muselover said. Only, replace the words “Twilight Princess” with “Wind Waker” and the words “Ocarina of Time” with “Majora’s Mask”.
While I agree that Majora’s Mask is a brilliant game, I still consider Ocarina to be slightly superior because I consider the gameplay to be slightly more refined. MM was more experimental in my opinion.
Ok! Here is my list of pros and cons to ALL of the above.
1) Get a new PC and use the old for work:
This is a good choice. The major problem is that PCs designed to run games like this at medium-high settings are inherently expensive. I recently purchased a thousand dollar gaming rig (that’s about €750) after a summer of working at $8/h + Christmas and birthday money. It’s well worth it, but I use it for everything. If you’re going to get a new PC, it’s a good idea to go for the best you can afford, and once you get it I can promise you that it will be used for everything. You will never want to go back to your old one. But the price of even a relatively inexpensive computer is still a huge investment.
2) Xbox for Skyrim:
This is probably the least desirable choice of the three. Please note that I’m not a Sony, PC or Wii fanboy, however, the Xbox has several arguments against it. The Xbox is old, first of all. It’s been out since 2005, and Microsoft has stated that they plan to continue supporting it for two more years AT LEAST. The graphics are slightly – worse is not the word – not quite as good as the PS3’s, and the base model lacks a large hard drive. You can’t really compare the raw power of either console to a PC, but of the two the PS3 is the usual winner. It is ever so slightly better in most specs, not to mention free interwebs and multiplayer and no Red Ring of Death (a common hardware malfunction in thousands and thousands of Xbox…es? Xboxi?).
3) PS3 for Skyrim:
The big thing the PS3 has going for it once you get past the PS3/Xbox argument is that it’s relatively cheap. It’s not a very large investment, unlike the PC, and games made for it are more or less guaranteed to run on it. You never have to worry about compatibility or upgrading, but you’ll be forced to watch as the PC’s graphics hugely overtake the consoles over the 3-year span between now and the new console generation. If you plan to get a console, this is the one to get.
4) Wii for Zelda:
It really depends on personal choice. To me, Skyward Sword is kind of the Wii’s last hurrah before the Wii U releases. After that point, which is some time soon after March 2012, the Wii will become more or less a novelty. It’s already aging, and it was never really more than a very slightly upgraded GameCube in a shiny white box with motion controls. I own a Wii and think it’s great fun, but still. You may want to wait for the Wii U and see if Skyward Sword is ported to it in HD, or simply buy the Wii version, as the Wii U will be able to run Wii games.
5) Acting responsible never got the human race anywhere. Sit down, relax, have some fun and kill some dragons. And besides, having a life is part of being a gamer. There’s a whole subculture here. Not to mention I have a PS3, a PC (at 2+ hours a day) AND a JLynn. There’s my life, right there. I couldn’t be happier.
Xbox,Xboxs have Halo.
Xboxes are over 6 years old – painfully outdated – and also prone to the Red Rings of Death. Less so now with the updated model, but the hardware is still outdated. Better to wait for the Xbox 3.
BUT I LUV HALO
And if Microsoft has any sense, they’ll make the next one backwards compatible.
I actually remember when the Xbox 360 came out. It was the NEW BIG THING among my 3rd grade friends, who called it the Xbox 2. I was mad because they were allowed to play ADULT M-RATED games like Halo, while I was still on my Game Boy Advance playing Lego Star Wars.
I almost miss the days when I was so innocent.
And I’ve gone completely off topic, haven’t I?
I actually heard that Wii games are fairly bad compared to the other consoles, what with the sticky controls and (you have to agree here) inferior graphics. I am just repeating what I have heard from one game critic named Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw. It is a good console if you are a big Nintendo fan, but for all-around gaming I would get a PC, XBox or PS. I am just expressing my opinion, please dont rage at me Wii fans.
Ta, Castle. Exemplary exposition.
See, I knew Museblog would give me food for thought. I shall take no firm decisions till after Christmas, because there’s stuff to do like gitterns and barrel organs. When I bought Oblivion, I played it for 14 hours straight. I can’t really afford a month’s holiday in Elder Scrolls territory, but January is usually pretty quiet.
Incidentally, in case anyone was worried, 5) was never a serious option.
Well, we weren’t exactly holding our breath (on the matter of option #5).
Minecraft is now fully functioning on my PC. I haven’t had much time to play it, and I now have around five dormant worlds that I can’t play because I’m stuck in a pond/ocean and can’t get out.
Fun!
Holding space allows for swimming, you know.
Thanks; I’m still navigating but will definetly be leaning on this thread for support for awhile.
The Minecraft Wiki is an indispensable source of information.
So new game on Pokemon Back. This time I decided to go with a space theme. Named myself Firefly, my female(!) Snivy Serenity, caught a male Lillipup I named Hubble, and hacked myself a Zorua which I named Apollo.
Any suggestions on further names/teammates? This is an in-game team, by the way.
Enterprise? TARDIS? Sputnik?
If you already have one Pokemon named Hubble, you should have Fermi, Spitzer, Chandra, Compton and Webb to complete the set of space telescopes. (I recommend Spitzer for a fire-type, as it sees in infrared, and Fermi and Compton for large or muscular Pokemon, as a gamma rays/Hulk joke.)
Heatmor named Spitzer. Oh yes.
Mandibuzz/Braviary, maybe, for Fermi/Compton? I’ve always wanted to train one of those vultures. And Braviary is just super-awesome.
Chandra sounds like a name for a Chandelure.
Webb…Galvantula? Or possible Volcarona?
Thanks for the suggestions, you’re so awesome. *gives choklit and Lillipups*
I had to look all of those up on Bulbapedia, but I think the vultures sound like good choices. Since the guy Chandra was named for studied black holes and supernovae, a Ghost/Fire type is a perfect fit. And since Webb will see in near-infrared, I would recommend going with Volcarona, since it’s a fire type.
one name could be Wearetheborg or resistanceisfutile. or perhaps Worf.
Refreshed the App Store search over and over last night until Infinity Blade II finally appeared. Bought it in a heartbeat, then waited for it to download.
*waits*
This sure is taking a while.

Huh. I wonder how big this file is.

…I think I’ll go to bed now.
I just downloaded the most recent weekly Minecraft build, and lo and behold: taigas are back! *does a dance* How I missed you, oh snowy, foresty mountains. Walking on farmland doesn’t trample it anymore (nor do animals trample it), and apples have a 1/200 chance of spawning from oak leaves. Unfortunately, there is one pesky bug concerning farming: if a drop lands on any farmland (say, from harvesting wheat), that farmland gets trampled. So you can walk on it, but you can’t harvest it. Incidentally, last week’s release finally fixed the double door bug.
Have you noticed that you can’t place pressure plates on netherbrick fence posts?
Taigas, trample, lands, release, I want to play Magic…
I love that Castle dominates this thread, not that I’m surprised at all.
I play Minecraft. And Sims 3. Woo.
I have far too much of a life for my own good.
Do I really?
Notch stepped down as lead programmer to work on a new, secret project. Not sure if this is bad or utterly awesome.
Jeb’s been slowly taking more and more control over the Minecraft project. He has personally been updating since 1.7.3, while Notch’s involvement has been steadily declining. So a lot of the recent changes have been Jebbed. Besides, there won’t be much new content now that 1.0 is released. It’ll be a refreshing change of pace.
Go read Jeb’s twitter, there’s some interesting stuff there.
Could be Scrolls? I’m on the email list, but I haven’t heard anything…
Scrolls is obviously at least one of his other projects. The thing to remember is, Mojang is a game company, not a Minecraft company. Minecraft is just one of the games they’ve made. They’re also currently working with another dev team on a game called Cobalt, which has been pushed back quite a ways because they’ve had to focus on Minecraft so much; I suspect they’ll get working on that again. I think they were hoping to open up pre-orders and alpha before Christmas, but I don’t know if that’ll happen or not.
Anyway, I’ve always liked Jens’ work, and most of the decisions have been a collaboration between him and Notch anyway, so I don’t think there’ll be too much of a change.
Update:
I am in the lobby for a TF2 game.
WITH NOTCH
Say hi! Play a game! Ask him why he is no longer working as lead designer on Minecraft!

WHYYYYYYYYY
Alright. So. Decided on a final team and names. Considering renaming Apollo to “Compton”, but…
Serenity-Servine-Female
Apollo/Compton-Zorua-Male
Hubble-Herdier-Male
Chandra-Litwick-Female
*Fermi-Vullaby/Mandibuzz-Female*
*Spitzer-Heatmor-Male*
The ones in stars I have yet to obtain. The only type I’m worried about is Fire, but Spitzer will be able to learn Dig and Rock Tomb, so I should be okay. And I tend to over-level anyways. Dark could also potentially be a problem, but MY EPIC LIGHTNING PUPPEH Hubble should wipe the floor with them. Puppies+Thunder=the best thing ever.
I think all of the names are good- calling Apollo “Compton” would fit the space telescopes theme more, but “Apollo” is definitely a good name as well.
It’s just, “Compton” makes me think of a very proper English gentleman and the mental image of a Zoroark in a top hat and monocle…it just-PFFFFFTTTT!! I don’t know why, it just makes me giggle.
Well, here’s where the name comes from:
http:// heasarc. gsfc. nasa. gov/docs/cgro/
why, Hallo there good sir. I am Compton, and your argument is invalid.
Precisely.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the best music to listen to while exploring abandoned Minecraft servers is the Portal 2 soundtrack. Another hobby of mine is going to sparsely-populated areas of servers, going deep into a cave, and building something creepy that someone might stumble across sometime in the future. I just finished one: it’s a 5×5 pit, hollowed out all the way down to the void (it’s a creative server, so I got rid of the bedrock too), but in the middle there’s a column of stone with a cake on top. I put a redstone torch in the middle of a nether fence cage on the top of the shaft. If you don’t know where it is, it’s unlikely anyone will find it, because the cave’s pitch black.
How do you find abandoned servers? I know you can’t post IPs here because it counts as off-blog contact.
Luck, mostly.
Who here watches TotalBiscuit? who here wants Jesse to convince him to sing “Santa Baby” on a livestream?
Humble Indie Bundle #4 is out, everyone! If you’re not familiar with it, the Humble Indie Bundle is a collection of indie computer games. You choose your own price, and from whatever you pay, a portion goes to the game developers, a portion goes to the people running Humble Indie Bundle, and the rest goes to charity. The games in this bundle are:
-Jamestown
-Bit.Trip Runner
-Super Meat Boy
-Shank
-NightSky HD
If you pay more than the average price (currently at $4.84) you also get Gratuitous Space Battles and Cave Story+.
The charities being supported are the American Red Cross and Child’s Play Charity. To quote: “The Child’s Play Charity works to channel the goodwill of the worldwide gaming community into video games and game systems for sick children in hospitals. Child’s Play works directly with hospitals worldwide to identify what kinds of games and systems can be installed in hospital wards and distributed “for keeps†to child patients. Since 2003, Child’s Play has coordinated the donation of millions of dollars of games and game systems, making them a premier charity for helping children in need of the joy that games can bring.”
You can choose how much of your money goes to which groups–you can send it all to the developers, or all to charity, or all to Humble Indie Bundle, or some combination of the three. The games you get are DRM-free and can be downloaded for Mac, PC, or Linux, as well as activated through Steam.
So get on it, everyone! Cheap games, charitable donations, no DRM!
I just got Terraria. It’s really fun.
I just know that exists because Braid was in an early one. I might get this.
I bought it.
I got it too, especially because now it contains all the games from HIB3, as well as all the soundtracks!
Thanks for telling me about the HIB3 thing! That wasn’t there before, and they didn’t have the courtesy to send me an email about it. Luckily I still had the link, and I was able to get my Steam key without a problem.
PIGGY HAS THANKED ME *faints*
Act like that again and I’m rescinding my thanks. I’m no more important or worthwhile than anyone else on the ‘Blog–quite a bit less of each than many people, in fact.
OF COURSE YOU ARE STOP BEING SILLY
Stop.
…being silly.
muserlover, knock it off. I’m not kidding around here.
Don’t worry, we’re just playing around. We just choose you as our “praiseworthy one” for some reason.
We should find someone new to do this to. Piggy, got any suggestions?
No, that’s the point; it’s our purpose to MAKE you feel like that, regardless of whether you actually are.
The trailer for the Japanese Phoenix Wright movie was just released today. It’s probably the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen. Not only does it look true to the game, but it may even be a decent movie at the same time. Though an English dub is unlikely, I still have my fingers crossed.
About to erase my Diamond game to start a Nuzloke… 194 hours, gone! I wasted so much time chasing mesprit around…
STFP, but this is an update!
Deleting the game felt invigorating… I barely ever play Diamond anyway, and it’s great to start over.
Current team:
Harry, lvl 11 Turtwig
Rose, lvl 6 Magikarp
Martha, lvl 4 Bidoof
I started out with a Harry Potter theme, but had a brain wave and began naming pokemon after Doctor Who characters. We’re about to take off to Oreburgh city. I have already lost a Bidoof, Ronald, when we battled against the Trainer School trainers. You will be missed, Ronald!
I’ve finally put the Nether to use for its original purpose, as a means of fast travel. I built a railroad in it from one portal to the other.
The zombie pigmen keep sitting down in my minecarts, though. I wonder which bright spark at Mojang programmed that little behavioral quirk.
Oh my cake, you guys.
The official Portal sight has the entire Portal 2 soundtrack for download.
FREE.
And I have it.
I have it ALL.
*commence squee-ege*
Oh yeah, I think most of us have that. I especially like Robots FTW.
My favorite is Reconstructing More Science. Either that or the incinerator room towards the end of You Know Her?.
Ooh. The extent of my knowledge of Portal is that the cake is apparently a lie(? Why do I even know this I don’t even.), but I downloaded it anyway because that is my Official Policy Concerning Intriguing-Looking Free Music, and it’s marvelous.
So… Cobalt came out a few days ago in Alpha. I don’t think I’ll get it. I’m not hearing enthusiastic reviews, and it doesn’t exactly seem like a Minecraft level game right now.
Playing Portal 2! So far it’s fun, once I got the hang of the new stuff. I’m at the part where Hard Light Bridges are introduced. I’M WALKING ON SUNSHIIINE~
Having fun with the Aerial Faith Plates. Also, hey turrets! Missed you guys.
And I love Wheatley. So much. ^^
GAH STEAM SERVER OVERLOAD CAN’T DOWNLOAD GARRY’S MOD
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER PORTAL 2 SPOILER SPOILER.
At the part where you reunite with PotatOS! I do wish there were more test chambers and less aimless underground wandering devoid of amusing AIs, but the Repulsion Gel is FUN AND BOUNCY so it’s okay.
Also, WHEATLEY NOOOOOO WHYYY
PORTAL 2 SPOILER THAT EVERYONE PROBABLY ALREADY KNOWS BY NOW BUT JUST A WARNING
Well, at least you know he’s not a moron. Because a moron couldn’t PUNCH YOU…INTO…THE GROUND!
About the underground levels, I actually thought they were one of the game’s highlights. Their emphasis on exploration made me think of Myst (WITH PORTALS!). Since that series is one of my favorite of all time, as evidenced by my previous avatar, that section of the game was a lot of fun. For me.
Would all of you who are posting about Portal 2 be so kind as to lengthen your spoiler warning by a few more words? Thanks.
Gah, sorry … *pays choklit fine*
I got Minecraft for Christmas!
Will probably post updorts on my doings.
Hooray!
Accomplishments so far:
-Got a really nice spawn point in the middle of the Taiga? Norwegian? forests
-Set game to peaceful when it got dark and I hadn’t built a house or light yet
-Built house against a hill so that I didn’t have to build a fourth wall.
-Found cave underneath my house with plentiful coal and iron- I have a bunch of as of yet unused iron tools.
-Replaced part of my house with cobblestone- will eventually replace it with stone.
-Built a tall tower of cobblestone to find my house if I get lost- also the scenery is really pretty
Further goals:
-Expand and beautify house
-Find diamonds
The seed I used was (without quotes) “The old king is dead. Long live the king”
Oh my cake.
Skyward Sword is so amazing that I’m starting to think I should slap myself for waiting a month until college applications/homework/etc. were done to play it
I know! My brother and I are simultaneously playing through Twilight Princess (me) and Skyward Sword (him) on the Wii, and the differences between the two are amazing, especially in how the sword is controlled.

Back in Aperture Wheatley Laboratories doing Wheatley’s test chambers. OHHHHYESS*
Much better than the underground levels in my opinion, but the turret-cubes are problematic. They WALK when you set them down. *mashes keyboard*
*Closest typographical approximation of the sound Wheatley makes when you finish the chambers. And don’t even get me started on PotatOS and the lemon rant.
The spoiler warning still needs to be longer.
Hint on the cubes you complained about:
Set them up upside down, with their legs facing up. They tend to panic, but it works better.
I feel kind of sorry for them, the poor things.
Diamond Nuzloke.
Current position: On my way to Celestic Town.
Current team:
Rory, lvl. 32 Torterra
Amy, lvl. 32 Ponyta
Doctor, lvl. 31 Drifblim
Rose, lvl. 31 Gyrados
I renamed Harry to Rory because I was stupid for only remembering that I am a complete Whovian after starting the game. Jack died during the Veilstone Gym battle. He ended up being kind of unnecessary anyway, since I have two other flying types, but I’m debating whether it’s valid to resurrect him because he’s Jack.
The Doctor knows Fly now! I’m flying around with the Doctor!
Gluh. I was going to buy Minecraft today, but there’s something wrong with the site. D:
Try again now, the site is back up.
It’s the most worth-it 20 bucks you will EVER spend.
27, you mean.
Maybe now that my dad’s at work I can convince my mom to let me buy it…
They upped the price?
Of course. It’s not in beta anymore.
My mom was cleaning out some cabinets and found my GBA charger! I think now I’m going to break out the old Pokémon Red game and do a glitch run.
So. Skyrim. My brother and cousin introduced it to me and I am hooked now. My mo said is was weird to see me playing an “adventure” game because I usually don’t go for them. But Skyrim is pretty fun.
I recently started playing Machinarium.
Wow. What an incredible game.
I hate creepers.
I guess I have an excuse to start building a new house now. This was never really more than a glorified mining shack.
Well, my brother left his computer account up, so I decided to give Minecraft a try- he has it already. I started a new world, and on the surface near the spawn point, I found this really huge and awesome cave. There’s a super deep vertical shaft, and at the bottom there are a ton of waterfalls and lava and redstone and iron ore and DIAMONDSOMG. (My brother’s texture pack’s iron ore looks like gold. I was very disappointed after finding it wasn’t.) I copied the files onto a flash drive, so if I did it right I’ll be able to keep playing once I get the game myself.

Help needed!
Diamond Nuzloke:
I caught a Bronzor in Wayward Cave (I was trying for a Gible…) and named it TARDIS. Should I use it?
If you’re careful about training it, then its typing can be extremely useful. Depending on its level, though, you may want to wait until you either get an Exp. Share or have other Pokémon with levels high enough to give it backup.
In Diamond you get the Exp. Share before you can even access Wayward Cave, just so you know. And I guess I didn’t give enough detail, but I had ran through Wayward Cave before with a bunch of repels in anticipation of trying for a Gible in the secret part once I got strength, so by that time all of my pokes were around lvl. 40.
Anyway…. update!
Diamond Nuzloke:
Rory, lvl. 43 Torterra
Amy, lvl. 44 Rapidash
The Doctor, lvl. 43 Drifblim
Rose, lvl. 43 Gyrados
The TARDIS, lvl. 35 Bronzong
I just got the Snowpoint gym badge and am going to all the places with rock climb. I haven’t had much of a chance to try out The TARDIS yet, but it seems pretty decent. I need to have it learn a steel-type move, though. According to serebii it learns gyro ball pretty soon, which should be good because it’s super slow. And payback should also be good because of slowness. Hooray!
Well, I finally got around to trying Skyrim, and it has unplayable lag. I’ve closed all unnecessary programs, updated my graphics card, put all the textures on low, and even tried this window readyboost thing I found, though I’m still not quite sure what that does. Anyone have any other ideas for getting rid of the lag? Thanks.
Readyboost is using the memory from a plugged in flash/drive device as kind of half-cake RAM. It’s not actual RAM, but it speeds things up a tiny.
If you can overclock your processor, you might want to try that. Go into the graphical options again and put everything on low. Your specs meet the minimum, so you should be able to run it. Best of luck, Dragonborn.
How does one go about overclocking en’s processor?
And I’m pretty sure I already lowered all of the settings I can.
I got SKyrim and beat it with one character in about 50 hours. with my other character I am easily at 100 hours, still on 6th main quest mission. My smithing level in 82. I ALMOST HAVE DRAGONSCALEZ! btw I am a Khajiit mage/one handed sword guy.
oh yeah, one last thing. FUS RO DAH, THALMOR CAKERS!!
One does not simply beat Skyrim. It’s got 300+ hours of questing. The main quest is only like 15 of those.
was that an intentional Lord of the Rings reference?
My theory is that half of all LotR references made are not intentional. They just happen unconsciously.
Just had a Clefairy try to use Roar of Time on me… Fortunately it missed! Do you guys have any funny Clefairy/Metronome stories?
once a cleffa used Judgement on me
So I herd u liek mudkipz
Diamond Nuzloke (after a long time!):
I beat team Galactic, caught Dialga and named it Gallifrey. Get it? Doctor Who is the best!
I lost motivation approaching Sunnyshore and stalled out. That’s been the situation for about three weeks.
Instead, I’ve been trying to complete the pokedex on White, since the only legendary that I don’t have (besides the three that haven’t been released) is Deoxys. I’ve completed Kanto and am up to Sudowoodo on Johto. HOORAY!!!
So, minecraft snapshots. I am in love with the new little villagers, they are amazing. I like that he doubled the build limit, and am in the process of making a dive tower from new build limit to bedrock. I don’t really like the light glitches though, we’ll see when those get fixed.
Minecraft! It’s so addicting! I’ve been playing and I’ve died more times than I care to recount, but I have sort of a rollercoaster going in Creative and I’m on a mission to find diamonds in Survival. It’s fun! And on my friend’s server (which only has around four people on it) we covered a whole mountain in TNT, spawned tons of animals on it, and blew it up. It was such a massive explosion that the server crashed. Fun times.
I wish I could get you guys on my server!
I don’t play minecraft, but I will use this opportunity to let you know that my friend’s brother asked someone to prom via minecraft last week. And she said yes. So, yeah.
I bought myself Oblivion last night. I’m playing as a female wood elf, born under the Thief, agent class. Basically, I sneak around everywhere and kill everyone with arrows before they know I’m there. I closed my first Oblivion Gate, saved Kvatch, and (very slowly) brought Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple. I only have two things to say: first, Jauffre is aggravatingly slow; and second, if a guard is lying dead on the side of the road and his horse is standing there ownerless, it should not be a crime to take the horse. Seriously. The two times people walked in front of my arrows were crimes–I understand that, and I served my sentence. But taking an ownerless horse that would most likely just get killed by wolves in a few hours anyway?
I built Cloud Ruler Temple in Minecraft. I might submit pictures at some point.
You couldn’t afford Skyrim, or just wanted Oblivion. Or did you already have Skyrim?
My computer wouldn’t be able to run Skyrim very well, and I wanted Oblivion.
I know I’ve slipped out of the loop when it comes to gaming… I mean, I read about all these great games and watch other people play them on YouTube, but my parents would never let me obtain any of them. Thus the Wii became my dad’s Netflix-watching device.
But now I’m in college, and I can buy games for my laptop. Maybe. I don’t know, really, because my mom might notice on the bill, but she won’t be able to do anything about it.
Anyway, the reason for this post is that I just realized that people don’t buy PC games on CD-ROM anymore! Everyone buys full games online, via Steam or other sources!
Actually I don’t even know. Am I right about this? It seems so amazing to me that you don’t have to have a CD-ROM to get an entire game.
Now I feel really silly and a bit old. And I’ll probably get a Steam account in the near future.
STFP: I just read over my original post again and I would like to say that by “great games” I mean Portal, Assassin’s Creed, etc. I know that Nintendo games are only on consoles. I’m not that thick!
>implying people with PCs still buy games
#thepiratebayiswhytheeconomysucks
ANYWAY
You can play Nintendo games on a PC if you’ve got an emulator. Heck, you can play old arcade games on a PC if you’ve got the ROM.
I’ve got Sapphire on my old slow-as-cake PC. I gave my actual Sapphire game away to a friend awhile ago. Maybe I should ask for it back…
Emulators are cool.
I know… I was talking about games on PC that aren’t technically “illegal.” The only game that I would even consider using an emulator for is Mother 3. I’m such a stickler for rules. Bleh.
That’s the problem with ROMs. The only way to get them legally is to buy an entire arcade machine and pull the information off manually.
NEW INFO ON HALO 4!!!!! FINALLYYYYYY!!!! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A YEAR!!! *ahem*…….I am such a Halo fanboy, but I don’t care.
NEW TRAILER FOR HALO 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a lot of capital letters. And a lot of exclamation marks.
I wonder if Halo will be the same without Bungie. Me, personally, not a huge Halo fan – I love forge mode, though, and I still play the first one on my computer.
actually a lot of bungie employees went over to 343, including Frank O’Conner, the art directer.
Also Assassins’ Creed 3 is coming out, it takes place during the revolution
I’m super excited that it’s going to be on the Wii U as well!
Plus this means that the Wii U will be coming out before Assassin’s Creed, which means that the Wii U will probably come out in early Autumn this year!
Which also means… NERD OVERLOAD because Doctor Who Series 7, Pokemon B/W 2, Wii U, and Assassin’s Creed 3 are all coming out at roughly the same time. AAAAAAHHH
Also Allie Bosh’s (Hyperbole and a Half) book! Which is hopefully still going to be a thing!
Yeah, I’m really pumped about ACIII. I didn’t play Revelations (because I wasn’t sure about it and I was broke) but I own AC, AC2 and Brotherhood. Probably my favorite games.
OH. MY. GOD.
I cannot wait for the multiplayer beta of Halo 4 to come out. If 343 industries mess up, I will be forced to murder their families, which will be unpleasant for me so I hope they don’t force me to do it. D:
I am a massive fanboy, last year I got the last new platinum edition Halo 1.
Ooh! Is it still Xbox exclusive?
*doesn’t google because conversation*
I have a Staryu named Moon Pie.
Your argument is invalid.
DIABLO III RELEASE DATE YESSSSSSSSS
AND THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION COMES WITH A WORLDSTONE USB PRELOADED WITH D2 AND ITS EXPANSION PACK
D3 is shipping with no PVP because the dev team won’t push back the release to finish the game. They’re releasing a major part of the game in a patch. It’s like ME3 day-one DLC, or games like Fallout shipping with massive bugs. New Vegas had a gigantic patch an hour after it came out – I had to wait 30 minutes while it patched the very first time I tried to play it.
I am very frustrated. I’d rather have a polished, finished product a week later instead of a buggy, dull, half-experience.
Well, Blizzard’s reasons are admirable. They realize that players have been waiting for over ten years for this game, and that PVP is probably the feature that people are most willing to wait for.
Besides, I only ever played the singleplayer.
I just watched a new video from TotalBiscuit doing a live, first-impressions video of some flight game. HE RAGED SO HARD IT WAS HILARIOUS! even the URL’s ending was FUUUUUUUUUUUU (but ended with EAAAAUUM) I thought it was hilarious.
*replaying Portal 2*
Cave Johnson is a questionably sane inventor whose inventions are all quite useful, just not for the intended purpose. He tried to invent a new diet pudding and got the Repulsion and Propulsion Gels. He tried to invent a fuel system de-icer and got a homicidal robot. And his last name is Johnson.
*looks at Discworld book*
*looks back at Portal 2 game*
*looks back at Discworld book*
oh my god
“Bloody Stupid” Johnson’s first name is Bergholt-Stuttley, but I suppose they could be relatives.
Hey guys, I just finished playing through Crysis 2 again. I want to discuss the main character, Alcatraz. Specifically how bad I feel for him. He is a Force Recon marine that is going to New York to rescue I scientist that has been working on some new, hideous disease, when his submarine gets sunk. He swims out of the submarine (in the book it mentions that he has extreme hydrophobia) just to notice that the river him and his squad mates are swimming in is filled with bodies that have the disease and look…melted. (here is where the story gets freaky) A weird craft flies out of the river and begins gunning down the Marines. They all die except for Alcatraz, whose injuries include: Ballistic trauma to the chest, heart taking most of the damage, Lungs ruptured in multiple places, most of his ribs get broken, flail chest segment, extensive pulmonary bruising voice box and vocal cords are shot out, Bullet wounds peppering his body and the one that is the most damaging in the long run, heavy ballistic trauma to his spinal column. This is at the beginning of the game. The gunship hovering nearby, when it gets shot down by somebody wearing a futuristic, full body suit. (it is revealed to be the Nanosuit 2.0, and there is only one. And it was made with technology stolen from prehistoric machines IT IS NOT AS CONTRIVED AS IT SOUNDS!!!!). The person with the nanosuit has caught the horrible disease, and so gives the nano suit to alcatraz in order to allow him to try and save the human race. The rescuer, named Prophet, is forced to shoot himself for the suit to fully adapt to Alcatraz. The suit needs the spinal column to integrate with whoever is wearing it, but Alcatraz’s has been shot up. So the suit (This is the worst part) recycles his remaining organs and additional biomass to repair the injuries. The functions of a heart can be provided by the Nanosuit 2.0, so the heart is the first thing to go. Lungs are next. All the suit needs to function is nerves, brain and eyes. It is very disconcerting to be playing a character that has been literally dead in almost every sense of the word since the beginning. When a doctor scans the suit halfway through, he calls you a “corpse walking”. I nominate Alcatraz for the most tragic hero award. Oh yeah, and Prophet’s memories get assimilated into his own and Prophet himself has his mind preserved on the Nanosuit, which you figure out at the end.
how about everyone names their personal most tragic hero in video games, and whoever gets the most sympathy squids earns the Most Tragic Hero Award!
Here is the actual quote
Chen handled biotelemetry and I ran the suit diagnostics. I was parsing the twitch protocols when Chen said “*expletive*, he’s dead.†Gould threatened Chen and told her not to make threats she couldn’t back up, but Chen explained that the rogue was actually, literally dead. I accessed his vitals myself at that point and confirmed this. The right ventricle and left lung were gone and his right lung was relatively intact but nonfunctional due to pneumothorax. I could see that the right lung might be salvageable (the diaphragm had been perforated but the N2 had infiltrated the injuries with a synthomyosin mesh that was restoring some integrity), but the rest of the thoracic cluster was just gone. The N2 had bypassed the pulmonary system entirely and was infusing O2 directly into the aortic arch. I also noticed that it had extruded synthomyosin around the shrapnel and it had coated all the torn internal surfaces with anafibrin, but none of these were stand-alone modifications. The N2 extended into its wearer at the molecular level and had taken over most of the vital processes, so Chen was medically right. The undamaged tissues left inside the suit did not meet the definition of a complete viable organism as defined by National Health Industry Standards. “Prophet†((they didn’t know that his name was Alcatraz)) was legally dead.

where is everyone?
Protip: when it’s been a while since anyone has posted on a thread, and you’re the last one to post there, it’s generally good etiquette to wait until someone else posts before you keep doing so.
I probably made up that rule on the spot, but in answer to your question, I don’t think people are finding much to talk about when it comes to video games. At least at the moment.
Although I think exceptions can be made on some of the threads with very little traffic, where no one posts for months and months. If you’ve got something to say, and that thread is the right thread to say it upon, then do so.
It’s the posts where you just wonder where everyone else is and don’t contribute to thread that are frowned upon.
I’m here, I’ve just never played Crysis 2.
Ditto.
Crysis 2 was absolutely excellent. The graphics…well, it’s a good thing I played it on a PS3, otherwise that would have been $400 worth of graphics card to play that thing on full settings on a PC.
As it is my graphics card is $200. It runs Battlefield 3 maxed out with 64 players with no client-side lag. Absolutely beautiful. The quad-core processor helps too.
Ergh. They just released the new GTX 680 card and I can’t get it because a) I’d need a new motherboard and PSU and I’d have to pretty much buy a whole new computer and b) the card itself is REALLY expensive and c) no game uses it to full potential yet anyway. It’s serious overkill.
Well, I was just wondering if anyone had a character that they thought was more tragic than Alcatraz.
You know you Terraria when BOULDERS STILL KILL YOU NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL YOU ARE
(no i swear this is relevant
really)
No. Really, if anyone has the extra $10, I’d recommend Terraria as the game to buy – although, seeing as I itemhacked all my tools up to higher-tier than I should have for another week Out Of Game, not so sure if I’m a reliable source. :3c
So I started another nuzlocke-but-not-really-since-I-don’t-have-the-heart-to-let-my-pokemon-go on Platinum. In fact, I think the only thing that makes it a Nuzlocke is catching the first pokemon I see on a route.
Anyways, I caught a Bidoof near the beginning and named her Ditzy Doo. I wanted to call her Derpy Hooves, but that wouldn’t fit. Ditzy’s now a Bibarel and a proud member of the team. I seriously don’t know why I haven’t used Bibarel before: they’re really strong.
Haha, that’s what mine was like. It gets harder and harder to let them go as you progress…losing Ronald was pretty easy, but losing Jack was a big blow. The Doctor and Rose each fainted once after that, and I just couldn’t go through with it.
The best thing about nuzloke is using pokemon you’ve never used before! All of my pokemon were new, except for Amy the rapidash, because ponyta/rapidash are the only non-starter fire types in Diamond.
I finally found a single online retailer that had Diablo III Collector’s Edition in stock.
And now I have it pre-ordered.
Oh yeah.
Mother 3
Is a-ma-zing
Mo-ther 3
I love Mo-ther 3
*Does happy little jig*
My local thrift store has a NES for $70, a SNES for $50, and a N64 for $100. Excluding the games they have (such as Ocarina of Time for $22), which of these seems the more worthwhile purchase? I should note that they each come with the first Mario game native to that console.
The N64 and NES are my two favorite consoles of all time, so I’d be biased to say, “Yes, buy them, buy them all.”
*is broke after spending all his money on Diablo*
Maybe I’ll just get the NES, then.
So Skyrim’s been dead in the water for the past 3 months.
My PS3 had a fatal error back in January, and it corrupted my Skyrim save file. I completely restored my PS3, but Skyrim won’t play at all now. I bought it brand new, and I can’t get a refund or get a free copy on PC. I’m also broke and trying to sell old PS3 games so I can get a Line 6 amp I found on craigslist.
I really miss Skyrim.
For a while I’ve been seeing a ton of art on various Japanese sites about something I didn’t recognize and couldn’t identify. I didn’t even know whether it was an anime or a manga or what. But a few days ago I finally managed to track it down–it’s actually a game that was released a couple months ago. It’s called Ib (that’s an uppercase i, not a lowercase L), and it’s a free 8-bit horror/adventure/puzzle game that I’ve really been enjoying, by a guy who goes by Kouri. The basic premise is that a 9-year-old girl goes to an art gallery with her parents, and I can’t go much further without spoiling things. I’ve played three endings so far, all of which are quite good. It’s not horrifically scary (though it did make me jump a couple of times), and the plot is complex enough to make you think, but not so complicated that it interferes with enjoyability. The name obviously makes it difficult to Google, but if you look for “ib game” and find a Zerochan link, that’ll have some links on the right hand side to lead you to the developer’s site as well as a site with an English translation of the game that just got posted two weeks ago. I highly recommend it–it’s not long, so you should be able to finish one path in a couple of hours. I can see why it’s really exploded in popularity these past few weeks.
So… Minecraft has started to scare me. I know somebody posted somewhere a while back (was it you, Zinc?) that the feeling of being all alone in a huge world was frightening… and I know what she means now.
Playing on servers is fun though. Playing on servers where nobody else is on at that time=not so much.
Huge massively multiplayer servers. I have a friend who does them a lot, but I’ve always been kind of adverse to the idea. I just wanted to get people’s thoughts on them.
My server has three or four regulars, including myself, and has had a total of about 25 different people on it. The record was 11 people on at once.
It’s not one of those servers with a massive spawn area with a ton of rules, there’s no player economy mod, no protected building areas…it’s just one creative world and one survival world. You can do whatever you want, and as long as you ask me first (so you don’t build where I’ve planned a big project) you can build pretty much anything pretty much anywhere.
I don’t like huge servers and I don’t like empty servers. Thankfully, my server is not often empty. Unthankfully, server addresses count as contact information on the blog.
Am I the only person that vastly prefers single-player to servers?
I really like playing in empty parts of servers. It’s like singleplayer but with the occasional mysterious ruin.
It sometimes depresses me. All alone in the world… I could keep wandering forever…
My friend told me that was how Minecraft was SUPPOSED to make me feel and I was quite shocked.
I know. I felt very depressed after I made monuments to my own glory and then realized….Nobody would ever see them. Nobody would ever test my defenses, take up residence in my 4 bedroom house. Nobody would marvel over my creations or help me against the monsters. I actually got so depressed I jumped my mine craft character off a cliff. It didn’t help, all I did was respawn back where I started….
I like Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past for Game Boy Advance.
Diablo III shipped!
…and I’ll be getting it next Monday. Yay?
New Minecraft snapshot!!!!
Words cannot express the awesomeness. Though I must admit I’m not a big fan of the new gravel texture.
This is why I make my own textures.
So I finally made myself some money and bought Skyrim. I don’t know if it’s been brought up already, but I forgot to tell you a few months ago when I was still using the PS3 version (I’m on PC now).
Hooray for gay marriage in Skyrim!
Just achieved Guildmaster rank in PMD: EotS. It was so unsatisfying! Nobody acknowledges your accomplishment; you just unlock another dungeon. That’s it. No dialogue changes or anything. Even though you are ranked as high as Wigglytuff himself.
The Minecraft server seems to be undergoing a cold war at the moment…
It started when Altosax, who hosts the server and is the most powerful person there, started making things with nuclear power. We’re using the mod Tekkit, which is pretty much a mix of all the best mods, from the technic one to the alchemy one to the one that makes deforestation so much easier.
This worried TWOO (The Wizard of Oz), as he is powerless against the nukes and Altosax has been hiding said nukes, as well as a lot of diamond.
Then I decided to make a fallout shelter in case of nuclear war. Because I have no obsidian (or diamond with which to mine the obsidian) yet, I am relying on distance from the base to protect me until I can make the mod.
I found a large cavern with lava and water and tons of minerals, and have begun to mine. I figured it was time to become independent and not constantly die in Altosax’s quarries.
Now Monkeyboy is on the server. When he heard about the nuclear threat, he decided that we should wage nuclear war on Altosax, despite the fact that she has become much more powerful than we are.
This should be interesting. And it might end up in hugs.
You don’t need diamond to get obsidian. Just some buckets. Still lava + flowing water = obsidian. Make a mold out of dirt or whatever and fill it layer by layer.
You need a diamond pick to mine obsidian successfully.
If you use anything less than diamond (iron, stone) the obsidian will just break and not be obtainable.
I did say “get”, not “mine”. I don’t remember the last time I actually mined obsidian for something.
Sorry. There’s “get” as in “create, end result” and there’s “get” as in “acquire”.
My brain only interpreted it the one way.
Oh? I love tekkit! And Nuclear war! which server is this?
Can I have the Ip please?
ooops wrong comment.
What is the IP for this server? I love playing tekkit.
oh I see. It is putting me at the bottom of the reply chain. I derped for a little bit there.
We’re not allowed to give IP addresses for servers on MB.
can you tell me how to find the IP?
can you put the IP in a difficult and seemingly meaningless numerical code?
IPs are usually routed through a DNS URL, meaning that you can log in to the server by typing in a web address that the server host has linked to the server.
The problem with this on the blog is that it still provides access to a game with an open chat feature, meaning that it’s basically a loophole for the “no contact info” rule here on the blog. It’s made worse by the fact that the IP/URL would be communicated directly through a blog post, so it would be a direct violation.
Now, if you meet a blogger in real life (e.g. at a Kokonventiom), you can exchange any contact information you want, assuming it’s alright with your parents. The GAPAs have no jurisdiction over what you do if you meet under parental contact.
I don’t think I live anywhere near any of you. could you put the IP in a numerical code?
[Nope. –Admin.]
i am mostly interested in Mario and Sonic games. but for those who like both Minecraft and Zelda there is a game out called “Zelda AdventureCraft” and it is half Minecraft and half Zelda. it’s pretty cool!
Which Mario and Sonic? I’ve never actually played a real Sonic game.
My first Mario game was SMB3 on GBA (this was in eighth grade, I believe, a year after I got a DS). I wasn’t even aware it was originally an NES game until a couple of years later. My childhood was sadly deprived of video games. I wish I had tales of SNES (or even NES) like my peers do.
Right now I’m playing Super Mario 3D Land. It’s not bad, but the main levels are ridiculously easy. Even the Special worlds aren’t that hard. I mean, I stopped playing for a while when I got stuck on Special world 5, but recently picked it back up and got all the way to world 8 in just a few hours. Whereas I’ve been playing SMB3 off and on for years and have never made it past the world 7 boss.
Have you ever played *shudders* Sonic 2006? Or whatever its official name is? Horrendous.
oh man! the first mario game i heard of was SMB3! cool
and no i have not played Sonic2006… but i do watch the episodes if you are interested
I’ve played Sonic 1 and 2, as well as 4 Episode 1.
I have played bits of 2006. Some of the worst bits of any game I’ve played.
Well, finally got to play Diablo III yesterday once school got out. Today I beat the Skeleton King, and finally stopped playing long enough to write this post.
The combat’s just as fun as ever, and I actually really like the revamped skill system. Some grinding was involved, but as usual it’s really rewarding when you get some rare shield. The DRM is annoying, but the lag is rarely noticeable.
I’m playing Witch Doctor, mostly because I liked the Necromancer in D2. He’s a good fighter as long as nothing’s close to him, in which case he’ll get killed in a few hits. I’ve managed to counteract this with a strong Firebats skill, though. His Zombie Dogs are also really, really useful.
Also, I got the Humble Bundle V today, which is utterly amazing. Two of the games featured in it (Limbo and Psychonauts) would probably be on a list of my favorite games ever, and they were easily worth the $7.58 alone. I’m going to have to find a way to divide my time between all this during the summer, particularly if I get Minecraft or something of the sort for my birthday.
And that post was longer than I expected it to be. Well then.
Ah, thanks for reminding me to get the Bundle. I think I played the Bastion and Limbo demos a while ago, and I’ve heard good things about Psychonauts and Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery. I will not be installing Amnesia. Ever.
No, Amnesia’s a lot of fun! Make sure to play it at night, so there’s no distractions from the beautiful and vibrant game world.
Also, it’s spelled Sword and Sworcery. Very important, that.
I got Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. A very fun game, but I haven’t done much multiplayer. One thing that stands out about Ghost Recon is how challenging it is. If you run out in the open thinking you can solo the entire enemy force (such as in CoD, Halo, Battlefield, Mass Effect, CoD) Then you will be almost instantly killed. Even on easy you die in about three shots. That is why you need to use stealth. You aren’t called “Ghosts” for nothing….
Lone-wolfing in Battlefield 3 works to an extent, but in order to truly solo the whole enemy team you need either a lot of firepower or a lot of friends. The maps are so big that you can’t just run in a circle and spawn camp.
Speaking as someone who has BF3, Modern Warfare 1 and 2, Black Ops, Mass Effect 1 and 2 and who plays Halo on a semi-regular basis, I can tell you that the order of realism/teamwork needed is as follows:
MW2, Black Ops, Halo, MW1, ME2, ME1, BF3
(from least ((more lone wolf)) to greatest ((more teamwork)) )
I was thinking of single player
i can’t really play games on my computer because my parents say i can’t download anything that takes up a lot of megabites and jegabites and killabites and some other tecnichal stuff i don’t understand so i don’t really know what you guys are talking about!
Here’s some reference for you so you know all about bytes.
A megabyte is one of the most common kinds of measurement for hard drive (the place where your computer stores its data) and program size.
A megabyte is 1,024 kilobytes. A gigabyte is 1,024 MEGABYTES. A terabyte is 1,024 GIGABYTES.
Most hard drives in a standard, new computer have about 500 gigabytes of space. My hard drive has 1 terabyte (1,024 gigabytes) plus a second 200 gigabyte hard drive I installed.
One song takes up about 6 megabytes. One HD picture takes up about 4 – 8 megabytes. One game (games all take up different amounts of space), let’s use Minecraft as an example, take up very little space. Minecraft is about 500 megabytes when fully installed (but I have some mods too, so those take up space).
I have about 17 gigabytes of music on my computer, which totals out to about 3,100 songs.
It’s okay, though. Some day you’ll be able to get your own computer. And in the meantime, there’s a lot of games that don’t take up a lot of space! And you can play flash games, which are online games that don’t take up any space.
Also, for future reference, a byte is eight bits of information, and a kilobyte is a thousand bytes. A bit is one very small piece of information, the smallest a computer can understand.
When you see streams of ones and zeroes in something related to computers, each one or zero is one bit– one very small, on/off, yes/no, presence/absence of electric current in wires, piece of information.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star looks amazing. Even though it sounds really dumb.
I love the sticker idea.
I love how it’s going back to its roots as Super Mario RPG.
I love how they did away with pretty much everything from Super Paper Mario.
so instead of getting the latest Humble Indie Bundle I thought I’d have more fun if I got this Steam bundle, also on sale, which included Psychonauts, Costume Quest, and Stacking. (before you interrogate me for this, I hate horror, and I’m also bad at games that require traditional video game skills, like moving in a certain direction or pressing buttons rapidly)
I’ve only played Costume Quest so far
and it is adorable
but I am so so so bad at the combat
like, I didn’t realize how bad I was at hitting specific, changing buttons at a specific time until I let my boyfriend play for a battle and he actually hit the buttons at the proper times and it did something different than had happened when I tried
it’d probably be easier if I had a USB controller, I just have a keyboard
it’s so adorable though
I regret nothing
Actually, if you have sufficient money, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP sounds like a really good game for you. It’s more about exploration and experimentation than anything else.
But yeah, glad you got the Double Fine bundle. Can’t wait till their Kickstarter thing is finished.
So I finally started playing Amnesia. It’s actually really good as a puzzle game, even though it hasn’t gotten ultra-scary yet. I’ve been recording a Let’s Play of sorts as I go through it, which consists mostly of me freaking out at the slightest noises. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes either horror or puzzle games and doesn’t mind one being mixed with the other.
Lone Survivor, Braid, and Super Meat Boy have been added to Humble Indie Bundle V, so check your key page again to get those (assuming you paid more than the average). Super Meat Boy I already have, Braid I’ve been meaning to get for a while, and I hadn’t heard of Lone Survivor before. It looks pretty good, though horror has never been my favorite genre.
To be honest, I’m mildly disappointed that a) these games don’t have soundtracks included and b) 2 of the 3 have been featured in previous bundles, but I’m glad for the addition simply because of Lone Survivor.
Remember the cold war?
So it’s the last day of school and tensions are building. Altosax and I want a nice community where everyone is nice and shares. Monkeyboy and Paperclip want to be independent and powerful. And possibly have nuclear war. It’s kind of confusing. Nobody was exactly sure what was going on, and there’s really no point in a cold war unless one of your sides is Communist or something. Besides, Tekkit doesn’t have any space mods, so you can’t even have a space race.
Then I got home and had a wonderful time with all my friends.
That night I logged onto Minecraft.
Tekkit had updated and pretty much wiped out most of civilization in our world. I had most of my hotel (with a nice new ocean view) and the town hall was still there, but everyone’s bases were all gone. It was just ocean.
Also, Treecapitation and the weapons mod had been removed.
Needless to say, we were all pretty miffed.
Then something wonderful happened.
We all started anew on an island, salvaging what we had and working together.
We’re starting on a house and we all collaborated all our items into one large chest.
It’s wonderful.
Any Admins listening, is there ANY WAY I can get the IP for this server!? It sounds great, but There is no way for me to get the IP!
Lawson:
Alas. (We seem to be specializing in one-word answers today.)
Also I should probably mention that it’s a very small, private server (it’s only about seven people), has since banned Equivalent Exchange, and everyone on there knows each other IRL and I’m not sure if the server host would be okay with it.
oh, well then ok. Does anyone know any other good servers (it isn’t personal contact information, does that matter?)
When was the last time NIntendo made a game that wasn’t just another blatant remake of the same pokemon/mario/legend of zelda game but with a few new gimmicks and a palate swap? Those brand names are starting to be stretched a little thin. And no Wii sports doesn’t count.
Steel Diver. Kid Icarus: Uprising. Pokémon Conquest. Pushmo. Need I go on? If you only look at Nintendo’s major franchises, of course they’re going to be similar; they can only do so much with a character, and it’s frankly admirable how well they’ve done so with properties like Mario and Zelda. But that isn’t anywhere near the full scope of their library, and if you search around in there, you can find some great games.

What I would love is a new Pokemon game on the Game Boy Advance. I would buy like three copies just for the sake of having that much awesome. Sapphire is pretty much my favorite game of all time ever.
Oh well. Back to listening to Justice and trying to set up my server for Tekkit on a remote Ubuntu-based machine.
Oh yeah, you’ll love Tekkit. Be warned: Once you start on that mod, you can never go back.
I’m learning Lua now for the Computercraft mod.
It’s a good excuse to finally focus and learn a programming language, because Minecraft is something I enjoy focusing on. Also, I still remember some stuff from that time I was sort of okay at Python, so I’m not that bad.
Seriously, though. Setting up Tekkit on Linux is bad enough. The fact that I have to do it through a command line and WinSCP instead of a GUI makes it about 5x harder.
Oh well. All the more experience for me!
Oh yeah, downloading mods is pretty bad. *sympathy squids* I’m focusing more on machinery now but I hope to learn Computercraft soon.
Also, be warned about Equivalent Exchange: It makes the whole game kind of pointless. Our server’s banned it.
I just wanted to let you know that I am currently installing Gentoo for fun and I have exactly zero sympathy for you having to use a command line.
Just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean others who don’t enjoy it lack the right to complain about having to do it.
Yes, but you see, I don’t know how to use Linux and Tekkit is not designed for Linux AT ALL, though it can be made to work.
Using Linux from a command line would be absolutely fine if I had any idea of how to do anything more than basic screen session commands and java program execution.
Also, what Biblio said. Perhaps you enjoy using it more because you actually know how to do it, but I’m absolutely learning as I go here. I have no idea what I’m doing and I appreciate the challenge, but not knowing how to do it is not the most effective and efficient way to get my server up and running for the people that want to play on it. I’d appreciate the challenge more if I was doing it for the sake of learning and not trying to do something that’s actually mildly important.
Have you tried X forwarding? because doing that and then using graphical programs over SSH might improve your life. it can be annoying to get working, though. I believe it’s ssh -X or -Y if you’re in linux or mac and there’s a setting in PuTTY in Connection > SSH > X11 (if you’re in Windows you’ll also need an X server on your computer, I forget what that’s called because I installed mine via Cygwin, google it though)
Yeah, you kind of proved me wrong. But I am a little frustrated that every new mario game, for example, doesnt really add anything new, other than a bunch of levels. Maybe they could do another Super Smash Bros.? I had Super Smash Bros. Melee and that was a ton of fun.
The reason Nintendo keeps making those games is because they’re so GOOD! They’re pretty much the standards of their respective genres, and Nintendo always seems to keep all their franchises fresh and interesting.
Hm. Minecraft problems went away after I restarted my computer but while messing with the settings trying to get rid of the problems I kind of accidentally destroyed the controls a little bit? So now everything works except for left-clicking. Aaand I can’t figure out how to get left-clicking back.
Help?
Listen up:
In-game, hit escape and then options. On the main menu, just hit options.
Click controls.
The first one on the list, “Attack” should have a gray button to the left of it. Click it once to select it, and click again to tell Minecraft to use your left-click button as attack/mine/chop/etc.
Problem solved.
Hm. I click it and it switches between “???” in angle brackets and “Button 1”. I’ve set it to both ??? and Button 1 and neither lets me attack/mine/chop with left-click. Also, “Button 1” is in red.
Do you have something else already set to Button 1?
Hm. I don’t think so… I shouldn’t. It’s the oddest thing. I was messing with settings trying to get an initial set of problems to go away (those stopped when I restarted the computer) and now I can’t fix this.
Is there some way I can reset all the settings to default?
Navigate to your .minecraft folder. Skip to step 3 if you know how to do it.
Windows:
Click start button
Type “run”
Click the program that comes up (it is called “Run” and has a small blue icon)
Type “%appdata%
Click “roaming” if you are brought to a page with three folders
If not, click .minecraft, which is at the top
Delete options.txt
OS X:
Run Minecraft
Click “texture packs” on you main menu
In the folder that comes up, go up one folder so you’re in the .minecraft folder
Delete options.txt
Run Minecraft. It’ll be forced to rebuild options.txt and you should be able to click again.
Using a third-party client, I have managed to get Riven running on my Mac OS X computer with an Intel processor.
This is the greatest thing ever.
Blast.
Steam has once again robbed me of the monies with one of its sales.
I just bought Portal 2, Saints Row: The Third and STALKER: Clear Sky for $22 – 5 dollars each for STALKER and Portal and 12 dollars for Saints Row.
I’m in the middle of Shadow of Chernobyl (the first STALKER game) right now, about to set off for Lab X18. I’m scared.
Pokemon Gereration 1-4 pokedex COMPLETE! Except for deoxys and manaphy. Looks like I’ll have to beg someone for one of those. The sad thing is if I had gottern pokemon diamond literally two months earlier than I did then I would have both of these pokemon! NOOOO
Anyway, on to gen five! There’s going to be some major trading going on, seeing as I only have pokemon white and not black!
NICE
remember
no matter WHAT teachers or other adults might tell you
“completed my pokedex” BELONGS on your resume as an accomplishment.
THEY WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND
So who has a Planetside 2 Beta Key? My friend has two and said he would give me one.
he didn’t give me one
I’ve started playing Zoo Tycoon on my dinosaur-like PC again, simply for the fact that the biology textbook I have to take notes on keeps repeating “coniferous” and “deciduous” and those are both ground textures in the game.
I have some meese (IT’S THE PLURAL OF MOOSE SHUT UP), unicorns, panda bears, harbor porpoises, and two herbivorous dinosaurs whose names I can’t remember. Also plenty of buildings and such.
I downloaded a game for my Android tablet for the plane ride home a few days ago. It’s called “These Robotic Hearts of Mine” and it’s a puzzle game about turning gears and about love. It’s pretty short, but it was only two dollars, and I enjoyed it. It was also sad. If you have a newer phone or tablet, I’d recommend it!
I also downloaded Cogs, which I already had on Steam. It works better on a mobile device than it does on a computer, in my opinion.
DRAGON AGE
I like it
ANOTHER 10 HOURS TONIGHT PROBABLY
I know how you feel.
I spent the past week playing Saints Row The Third in co-op mode. Every night. For hours.
Never played Dragon Age, though. How is it? And what is your platform of choice? I’m a PS3 and PC person meself.
Well okay so my rule is I don’t play video games other than pokemon and flash games that are under 30min to play (and last summer, Minecraft, but i had to lock it and hide it on my computer in the school year). Because I have a highly addictive personality and too much work during the school year to justify playing games, because I would DEFINITELY blow off working or social stuff to play things.
SO… the reason I let myself get DA was because I was just on a camping trip that required two 12-hour and 2 8-hour car rides, and multiple 1-3 hour ones in the middle. I wanted something I could do in the car because I’m currently in a phase where I get carsick from reading (every 3-4 years it switches, sometimes I can read sometimes I can’t). Sweet Melpomene suggested I get DA to play. I have a lot of other friends that were friends of it, so it came highly recommended. Also, tonight I’ll be on a 6-hour train ride and then an 8-hour car ride tomorrow.
SO. I’m not set up for gaming really… I just have it on my mac laptop. It had to be portable for the above reasons, and that’s what my computer is. PC’s are better than Mac’s for gaming but I don’t game enough/plan to.
THAT BEING SAID, from my un-gaming experienced perspective, DRAGON AGE IS AWESOME and I like it a lot and have spent a ton of time playing it so far (30+ hours) and am not bored. I like rpg’s because of the story/plot aspect more than FPS games (never really been attracted to those) so this is a lot of fun. It’s not multiplayer which is good for me because I having an endpoint was a requirement for me for playing at all (otherwise I’d never be done with it, problems listed before, etc). HOWEVER, I also expect I will play through multiple times. There’s a lot of ways you can go with plot/characters/choices and what you do/say impacts other things, so multiple runs seems fun. Esspecially since there’s a lot of very separate origin stories. My current run is elf mage, next will probably be human warrior.
It might be a good idea for you never to get within 50 meters of Mass Effect.
The only thing stopping me from playing it right now are my failing PhysX drivers.
From what I have seen of SR 3, it would be some crazy fun to play with my friends. Except I am 14 and my mom will not let me within a mile of that game, for reasons I am sure you understand.
I know it is a bit late, but I got Starcraft II a little bit ago, and I have been enjoying it immensely. My favorite race is Zerg, how bout any of you guys that play Starcraft?
There are now five dinosaur pictures taped to my computer. A Velociraptor, a T-Rex, a Pleiosaurus, a Triceratops, and a Pterodactyl.
Dinosaurs are rad.
I have an Apple sticker on my custom-built Windows machine. It’s an AMD system, not Intel, so I can’t make it into a Hackintosh.
The conflicting signals it gives off it almost painful.
Speaking of dinosaurs, I have several plastic toy dinosaurs on my desk that I may or may not occasionally play with in a Wash-like fashion.
Serenity never happened. Serenity never happened. Serenity never happened.
Bought Celestial Mechanica. It’s pretty fun, great music. Controls are a bit finicky, in my opinion, but that doesn’t detract too much.
In other news, I’ve become horridly addicted to Touhou. It started with Imperishable Night and has moved onto Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Perfect Cherry Blossom, and I’ll try some more recent ones next. I regret nothing.
My copy of Okami shipped on Friday, so I’m really hoping it’ll get here tomorrow! *crosses fingers*
One day later: Dangit it’s still in Kentucky. Amazon says it’ll be here tomorrow, though.
It’s in Oregon now! I’m definitely getting it tomorrow!
I GOT IT! I played for an hour and a half and I’m just about to leave Kamiki.
I’ve hit the four hour mark and am about to embark to Agata Forest.
The most astounding part of this is I completed the Konahana Shuffle. On my eighth try! Not too shabby!
Having become proficient in Photoshop, I have decided to move on to Blender, Maya and 3DS Max.
I’m taking video lessons created by the original animation producer of South Park. Not bad.
This morning, at around 7 A.M. (4 A.M. to my California brain), I finally got around to finishing the first Portal. I thought the boss fight would be harder, but it wasn’t bad, actually. I’m almost finished Portal 2 for, like, the 5th time now.
Why no, I’m not procrastinating on my Biology homework. Why do you ask? *glances around*
At the thirteen-hour mark in Okami, I’ve defeated Orochi! When I was watching a walkthrough online two years ago, I thought the game was over at this point! But nope! Two-thirds of the game to go!
Good Lord, today’s Minecraft release…. I don’t even know where to begin. Even in Creative I don’t know what to do. Updated sound engine, new mobs, new crops, beacons, anvils, item frames, flowerpots, mob heads, new potions, new map behavior, mobs wearing armor and carrying items…jiminy. I think the biggest change for me is corner stairs. For so long I’ve been waiting for corner stairs. And trapdoors can be placed on the top half of blocks now–that’s big too. It says they fixed some of the lighting glitches, but there’s still a ton of them; that’s disappointing.
I’m going to be busy the next few days.
So I finally bought Portal.
…Cake. I’m going to be the guy from xkcd 606, aren’t I?
Not to worry, the fandom is alive and well. Just don’t go nuts with the memes and nobody will judge you.
I am really really considering getting copies of some of the early to mid-00s games. I figure the integrated Intel graphics on my laptop will be able to handle Spore pretty well, and I kind of wanted that when it came out but never got it. I’m also considering getting one of the versions of Civilization. Hopefully they won’t be too expensive, because they’re older…
Anyone have any other suggestions for games from that era or earlier that I might like? I am good at/enjoy puzzle games and rhythm games. Anything that involves rapid button pressing or non-rhythmic timing is not good for me. I don’t particularly care for shooting things. I would be playing with my keyboard and trackpoint, so something involving a controller or fine adjustment is also out.
Sorry for all the requirements :/ I’m hoping there’s still something left for me
This doesn’t actually fit your requirements and I dunno how you feel about RPGs but I am in lovelovelove with Dragon Age: Origins (the third one’s coming out sometime soon, so they’re not SUPER old but Origins goes on sale all the time. I got it and Dragon Age II for about $25).
It’s not a shooter, and you can pause during combat so it’s not really a fast-reaction game either (or I would be terrible at it). I play it on my laptop with trackpad+wasd and it works just fine. And you can set flighting to easy and just play the plot. I really like the plot/options for characters, there’s really a lot you can do in it.
Anyway I’m just obligated to reccomend it because now Roo and Ebeth are playing it and I want to convert EVERYONE
Um… I am typing up code for an xml-based game. if any of you guys knows xml JavaScript language, can you please interpret this error message?

Oh! And gere’s the .xml file:
The South seceded from the US, and the US didn’t like it. CIVIL WAR!
Umm…Awkward. I guess that the signs made the xml file become this, like when you type something using the marquee format.
Cake it! you know those thingies that look like sideways V’s? That should go between “the” and “signs.”
Looks to me like you made an error in the XML formatting. The “XML document structures must start and end within the same entity.” is the important part of the error message, and what that means is that if you are writing XML, it is all encased within a root element. For example, in XHTML, everything is between <html> and </html>
I have created a new xml, and now the error says as shown:

You get kind of sick of reformatting and fixing and filtering and verifying xml files just for some dumb game. And then Java has to spread it around your face by throwing stupid null pointer exceptions at you.
A Null Pointer Exception, such as this one, generally occurs when you try to use a variable before you put something in it. This one occurred at an Input Stream Reader, so it maybe has something to do with reading in the XML file? I’m not familiar with whatever you’re using to make this game, or how the Java or XML should look, so I can’t say in more detail what the problem is. I’d suggest checking the way you put them together, though — file IO in Java is pretty tricky and annoying sometimes.Good luck!
I am typing up xml code to create a game for a strategy-based program designed to have fun. You can set up games with other people over the internet that have the game. The game is free and it is called [Sorry, Kai D.! We’re sure it’s a great game, and we admire your initiative and programming ability, but this is exactly the sort of thing our blog rules forbid. –Admins.]
I guess I went a little overboard… Oops. Sorry. But while we’re talkin’ technicalities, is just giving the program name OK? So that they can search for it on the internet, like how at the beginning of this blog someone said that there was a game called minecraft?
–
*I really did search for minecraft when I saw that post.*
Hm… That sounds like instructions for finding an MBer on another website — again, contrary to the MuseBlog ethos.
I admit and accept defeat… Cry in shame. Too bad. Well played.
*Tries to find loophole in solid, unbreakable truth*
On the blog, “cake and grief counseling” takes on a totally different meaning.
*pokes thread*
A few weeks ago I ordered the special edition Japanese Animal Crossing 3DS LL, and it arrived in the mail yesterday. I had been a bit skeptical of the near-perfect ratings the game’s been getting, but after playing a few hours I would have to agree with them: it’s fantastic. As soon as Nook’s office opens up tomorrow morning I’m going to go pay the 10,000 Bell down payment on my house. And hey, I can even justify spending a lot of time in the game: it’s great Japanese practice.
So anyways, yes, if you have a 3DS or are considering getting one, definitely get this game when it comes out in a few days.
I finally downloaded Minecraft, but I can’t seem to get it to work. I try to play it, but the loading screen comes up and it loads a little ways, then stops. And after a few seconds, the loading screen goes away, and the ‘Play’ button lights up again. And when I click it, the loading bar starts up again like it never tried to load before. Any way I can fix this?
I downloaded Pokemon Y this morning. So pumped. The controls seem a little clunky, I’m disappointed it isn’t in 3D, and there’s a fair amount of lag in a lot of the battle scenes, but overall I think it should be a lot of fun. I just wish I didn’t have to work 8+ hours today….
I’m okay that the whole game’s not in 3D, but there are a couple of battles that aren’t in 3D for some reason. I think they messed up with the coding on that one.
The pokemon models are gorgeous though. I don’t think I can ever go back.
I love the bicycle and surfing controls. It feels so great to be going that fast without being on a grid. Amazing!
I’m ordering a 3DS today! And I’ve been playing a lot of…dating sims….
A LOT of dating sims.
I got pokemon Y, it’s really fun, and I have also kind of let League of Legends consume my free time. Anyone else?
Earlier this week a friend of mine decided to sell his PS Vita so he could buy the new version of it instead, and so I bought the old one from him. Got it in the mail a few days ago, and yesterday I also got Persona 4 and Gravity Rush in the mail, to add to what I’d already downloaded, Machinarium and Guacamelee. I have to say, I think Gravity Rush is the video game I’ve been waiting for all my life. I’m a sucker for novel control schemes/mechanisms (Portal, Katamari, etc.), as well as for the “earn-points-and-upgrade-your-abilities” style of advancement, so this game is absolutely fantastic. I’m starting to get a little bit more graceful with it, swooping around and shifting gravity fluidly and landing without embarrassing myself. As for Persona 4, I think it’ll take me a while to get into it, but it sounds like it’ll be worth it.
Sooo….Namco High came out yesterday. I know a lot of people on here like Homestuck. Are any of you planning on sampling this other work of Andrew Hussie’s?
I have it open in another tab right now. Haven’t started playing yet. I’ve never actually played a dating sim before.
