All right! We need a theme. Last year we did a foresty Winter Wonderland sort of theme, and I believe the year before that was a gold-tinted Victorian Christmas. Ideas for this year?
Time Travel? Or pretend you’re a time traveler?
Maybe “History Comes Alive” as a theme, with the ballroom looking like a grand old art museum decorated for the holidays, with suits of armor with wreaths around their necks, holiday-themed paintings in fancy frames, and a big tree decorated with classy Renaissance ornaments, like at the Met.
Night at the Museum?
The movie does take place around Christmas, but I was thinking of this as more explicitly holiday-themed, with decorations within the museum, sometimes within the exhibits, and not so much the natural history museum as the Metropolitan across Central Park.
That sounds really cool. I don’t usually participate in the parties, but I might come to that one!
Re: themes-
The Poulenc Gloria has some very nice melodies.
Wait, wrong kind of theme.
Hmm, how about fairytales?
CANDY LAND.
Kind of. Like, peppermint trees, cotton candy clouds, chocolate dirt. EVERYTHING IS EDIBLE*. BUT THERE SHALL BE A SNACK TABLE. And the tree could be made of cinnamon, and there could be sugar snow…
*Of course you can! Everything in this room is eatable, even *I’m* eatable! But that is called “cannibalism,” my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies.
I second this!
We could have a giant gingerbread house ballroom for the party too!
YES.
I third.
Columns made out of candy canes. I will lick everything to death.
Giant gingerbread ballroom – YES YES YES!
SUGAR WOVEN FABRIC.
One of these years, we’ve got to celebrate the winter holidays Iceland-style. There’s an interesting description on goscandinavia . about . com.
I wanna be a jólasveinn. I’d try to resist the urge to give out potatoes.
Kalda veðrið gerir mig langar til að ærsl meðal hamingjusamur unicorns regnboga!
Okay, so our possible themes are art museum, gingerbread house, and traditional Icelandic.
Okay, crunch time: Iceland, candy, or museum? We really need to get this party started Sunday at the absolute latest.
It looks like candy is the most popular at the moment.
I vote gingerbread house/candy, personally.
Candy…
Iceland. Please, Iceland.
Candy!
Iceland!
It seems that candy is the most popular theme. If one of the GAPAs could create the thread ASAP, we can get this party rolling.
Done. And thanks, Piggy, for moving things along.
