Those of you who don’t have time to follow and take part in the role-playing game might still manage to scribble a few lines to the folks back a home. E-mail messages are acceptable too, of course.
Patience, Please
This site is under reconstruction and will look strange for a while. We regret the inconvenience.
First post.
I’m terribly confused by the description.
Is it… the people who don’t have time to actually play in the game but still want to can write letters to home about their day to day activities?
psh. I NEVER write home from camp. pity.
Yes. Some people have been dropping out of the RPG because it’s too time-coming to keep track of all the interactions. I thought this would give them a way of taking part in the MA world at their own pace.
By the way, the weather at Muse Academy has been terrible:
South-east Iceland
Gale warning 1624 Sat 02 Feb
Severe gale force 9 veering northerly imminent
Shipping forecast 0015 Sun 03 Feb
Wind East becoming cyclonic 7 to severe gale 9, perhaps storm 10 later.
Sea State Very rough or high.
Weather Rain or wintry showers.
Visibility Moderate or poor.

2- Wow.
There are disadvantages to an Icelandic location. Some days you just have to batten down the hatches and ride it out. Needless to say, there’s no contact with the mainland at the moment.
I guess it’s for those of us who have opted out of playing the RPG, but still want to imagine going to Muse Academy.

Hi mom and dad,
Whew, the first week here certanily has gone fast. I’ve been having a great time, all the MBers are really nice and the GAPAs are always such fun to be around.
Our science class has been very interesting, and it’s actually making sense now, same as math. Histiry is fun, and Paul give his lectures in Elizabethan english. Fun, but hard to take notes on.
The library is fabulous, Mom, you’d have a heyday and Dad, there’s a good poetry section, too.
Rebecca’s art classes are great fun, even though I still don’t think I’m very good.
Then in ou spare time we visit, do homework and dodge pies. The first few days all the neophytes were continually covered in pie. It was pretty tasty though!
Well, I have to go to my “Planning for world domination” class, I’ll write later. Hugs to both of you and to Circles, ♥ Fern
I could barely even start the RPG because there were so many posts that accumulated in just a few hours, and it was going way to fast for me to keep up with. So this thread will be great!
I think I’ll write from MA as Alice.
Dear Mother and Daddy,
Muse Academy is SO MUCH FUN! I really feel like I belong, even more than when I’m with the theater kids (of course, being with the theater kids at MA, I feel like I belong twice as much). I know a lot of these kids, and it’s so cool to meet them in person.
Every single class is fun, even math.
Much love and great happiness, Alice.
P.S. Iceland is really cold but still great.
Dear Jacob,
I know you don’t like school, but you would like Muse Academy. It’s basically like living in a Kokopelli & Company comic. You get to have dessert every day, even if you don’t finish your dinner! You don’t have to go to sleep at 8:00 sharp, and you don’t have to take art class if you don’t want too. You can stay in the library as long as you want, and there aren’t any mean librarians. Yes, you would definitely like it.
Love, Clara.
Dear Nak,
I see on the Web that you’ve been blanketed by snow. I hope you’re enjoying it. Here it’s been all lashing rain and cyclonic gales. We’re all safe inside, fortifying ourselves with copious quantities of soup, tea, and cocoa and making our way around campus via the Catacombs (our name for the tunnel network). Classes are proceeding as scheduled, but the roaring of the wind outside is a constant distraction, and everybody is a bit sleep-deprived. The students have been good sports so far, but I hope the weather clears up before cabin fever sets in.
I hear from New Zealand that construction of our Southern Hemisphere campus is proceeding apace. I’ll send more details as they become available.
Stay warm, and build a snowmuse for me!
Robert
This is an e-mail to all my best friends, by the way, from Beavo’s perspective.
Hello all!
First of all, I’d like to express my condolances that I won’t be attending the next few years of public school with you again, I’ve been accepted into a sort of “smart kid’s” private school for the second time. I’ll see you guys during the winter/spring break, and summer too.
Well, I hope you’re having a great time, I sure am. I’ve just gotten my list of classes, you wouldn’t beleive what kind of stuff I have. Really, it’s awesome.
I guess I’ll email you later on updates, and you MUST email me back with your school plans, new buddies, GIRLFRIENDS…
Anyway. Cya in the winter!
Beavo
10~ Whaddaya mean, “new…GIRLFRIENDS…”?! You’re twelve!!
Kidding.
Dear Andy,
Muse Academy is amazing! I wish it could have been opened before you went to college. You would love it here. If you didn’t like your class you could just invent a new one. You could spend all your time inventing here. The library is huge. It’s like that water city we imagined but it doesn’t really look like it. The people here would be perfect for the water city. You should start building the city so graduates from MA can live there.
I’m glad you had a good time with Val. You should come visit MA on spring break!
Pies, Karin
Dear Mom and Dad,
Thank you so much for sending me to MA! At first I wasn’t sure what it would be like, but I’ve made some great new friends (Althea, IBCF, and Raven, just to name a few) and I’ve got some awesome classes. Did you know that almost the entire day is basically electives? It’s way cool! Oh, and I DID take a math class like you asked me too – Geometry – but I actually had to switch INTO it, since they didn’t give us any math classes to start with.
Peace, love, and pies,
Cat Meow
Dear Mimi,
The first day was very surprising! Muse Academy is not much like Cricket School. I made 2 friends, Althea, and Kai. I got into a little trouble, but not as much as LAST year. Heheh. Anyway people invent a lot of things, and you know how much I love inventing! Can you please send my stuff over? I promise, even though that also got me into trouble I’ll be more careful! So far I haven’t seen Bo yet, but I think he’s my Random Factoids You Probably Won’t Need To Know teacher. Of course I brand my guitars, and harmonica, and I think they have a piano here. Oh MA is awesome!
Love,
Baylee Archie Top Hat
Dear Joseph and Peter,
Muse Academy is a lot of fun! I hope you are having fun starting fifth grade back home. Maybe you can come next year, little bros. It’s interesting being off Iceland, and you can see a lot of stars at night. I made three friends already- Althea, Baylee and Nathalie. Give my love to Mom and Dad.
Ankh wadjet seneb,
Kai
iam soo confuzed!! wat is muse academy?
Dear everyone,
MA is working out Great! I was chossen as House Leader this year, and my Radio Cooker is moving along.

TMFA, or Alex.
Mom & Dad:
I’m happy here. People don’t laugh at me for being me…
*cries with happiness*

16-Muse Academy is a school that we all wish we could go to. It has very interesting classes and nice teachers and a huge library.
Dear Theo,
Don’t you wish you were here! Though I think the lack of baseball would surely dampen your mood, were you to come. But I love it! I’m in Lasley House and they say at the end of the year in Lasley House they give you a copy of Photoshop! A REAL copy! Though you wouldn’t care. But I can’t wait! Last week I started a great new project in Advanced Chemistry. It’s a small synthetic bacterium that I’ll train to spell out words. By putting enough layers of these bacteria on top of each other on my skin, I’ll get a tattoo! But don’t freak out in jealousy, little bro. They disperse with a simple application of rubbing alcohol. My new friend Clara is my lab partner and she’s helping me a ton.
Wish you were here,
Allegra
((16. blunote_020? if your a Neophyte (newbie) got to the “welcome neophytes” thread . If your not…… well anyway Muse Academy is a school, on an island, that some musers go to. In other words we play roles in a.. a.. a story. It’s now Sunday and we’re writing home. *pies* Have fun!))
Dear Ashley,
Well, my teaching job is going pretty well. I only have a few students, but they’re all great. One of them is very interested in drawing hurdy-gurdies. Hey, whatever works, and they’re serious about art, so it’s ok. I also did a lot more on my short. It’ll be needing voices soon–do you want to be one of them?
Love you,
Jen
Dear Dad,
Wish there weren’t so many volcanoes in Iceland…
muselover
Dear Jacob,
Did you get my letter? You haven’t written back yet. In Advanced Chemistry yesterday we got to burn stuff, and the fire turned different colors! I thought you would like that. My lab partner (lab partner = someone who I do experiments and work with for Chemistry) Allegra has a brother, too, and I think he’s about your age. Sometime you to should meet each other, though I’m a bit worried because I know how two boys your age act together…
I hope you’re having a great time at school!
–Clara
Myself:
Muse Academy is way awesomer than I thought it would be. DO. NOT. WRECK. THIS. OPPORTUNITY.
Sincerely, Michael.
Dear Ashley,
You know, you should really come to MA. You’d have a lot of fun. Although it might be awkward for you to have your older sister as a teacher, so I can see why you might not want to. Thanks for the birthday presents–especially the puppy! Luckily for me, I’ve got a big room, so she’s got plenty of space to run around. Now all I need for her is a name…
Love,
Jen
Dear Mom and Dad,
Life here is so busy! Today I only had four classes, so I actually have time to write. The dorms are okay, the food’s good, and the teachers rock! I signed up for a non-verbal communications class today, taught by AEIOU. Well, homework calls.
-Sunnrunner B.
Dear Peter and Joseph,
Today I learned how to fight ghosts with binoculars, marbles, bubble gum, pencils and a hankie. Muse Academy isn’t ordinary, but that’s why we love it.
Ankh wadjet seneb,
Kai
My dearest friends at Muse Academy,
I’m sorry for my absence and I hope you are learning well.
As for my absence, I’m sorry I had to leave so early in the year. You won’t believe the types of animals up here!
Dr. Brandow is a very good art instructor. He’s been teaching me well, and I hope to be back by the end of the semester.
My studies as far as the “basics” go, aren’t doing as well as hoped, but I’ll bring up the grades as soon as possible.
I would like to hear of the latesd adventures going on over at the wonderful school, and I hope you write me soon.
I love you all, and I hope you’re enjoying the food over there, as I’m sure it’s better than refried beans,
Cappy
Dear Summer:
At MA, I have no idea what’s going on… the thread died. Anyway, I wish you were here, because then we could brave this mess together.
Write soon,
KOKONILLY
Dear Mum and Daddy,
My first few days here have been absolutely flamablamablous!
Despite me being a new student, everyone is super nice and I’m already starting to figure out my way around. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou for letting me go here!!!!!
Your flammably grateful daughter,
Daisy*Chain
To Summer:
Never mind. It’s fun here. I already made a new friend: Kai is being very nice.
Now if I could only find out where I sleep…
KOKONILLY
Hello muduh, hello fudduh, (JK)
the first day at camp all we did was dodge pies. Koko kept yelling “faster you slobbery slugs!!!!!”. I was the worst in the class (You remember the fact that I have nightmares about dodgeball?) and I would make this e-mail longer but I have to go get banana cream out of my ear.
Muse Academy
Iceland
September 3, 2034
Dear Mom, Dad, and Christine,
I am really enjoying myself at the Academy. I was nervous at first, but I loved it from the moment the boat landed. The people in Reykjavik are very friendly. Would you believe it, I met some of the original MuseBloggers! The freshmen were escorted to the gates by the Lasley Head of House, Allegra R********, otherwise known as Kiki the Great. Dad, the antechamber is exactly how you described it after you went to the construction site- the murals alone would make it breathtaking, but that dome… !
Then the Muses themselves gave speeches. Urania, Crraw, Bo and Aeiou, with Crraw translating. I was completely in awe.
After that, we all had to take tests to determine our houses. They were a lot longer than the preliminaries I took by mail, but absolutely worth it. I got Spector, just like you did in the old blog days, before the Schism and the Reunion.
Best part of it was, we didn’t even have to go to any classes- just went to the common rooms and got to know each other and the floor plan. We only learned the basics, though. Apparently it’s a tradition for the freshmen to learn about the secret passages on their own. I already found one, though. I checked with one of the older kids, and she said it’s the one called Fzlblt Slip. It comes out in the Baker cheese vaults.
Then we went out to the field and- I’ll have to describe the rest next time I write, because someone’s knocking on the door.
How are you guys doing back in California? Moved everything into the new house yet? Has Christine gotten over her jet lag?
Love,
Sebastian
Note- Sebastian is my own son, in the world of my Muse Fanfiction.
This thread is dead, so please come here! I enjoy writing postcards from Muse Academy, but it starts to get lonely after a while.
35-I would, but I’d be writing postcards to Muse Academy. I’m waiting for students. Anybody about to graduate?
Red-tailed HAWK

36- This would be the Zemtee Institute of Higher Learning or something along those lines? Nah, Sebastian’s only a freshman.
dear cassandra, sophia, and fiona,
i love my new school! we have all sorts of interesting classes, and everyone seems to understand such exiting subjects as how to achieve world domination in 93 easy steps (or somthing like that), and a lot of people don’t mind my annoying habits. i think. well, i am really busy so i’ll write more later, and send billy the evil mutant giant killer naked mole rat all my love!
insanley, sir wozzel of codfish and mordredia, duke of chloetopia, daughter of borg the heroic of squam
i am a total neophite, so please clue me in
Dear Medea,
How are you? I was sorry to hear about your missing ear. Could you tell me how you lost it? Perhaps it has ended up over here, everything eventually washes up on these shores. Yesterday we learned what to do in case of a hot pink bunny attack. This has gotten more important over time because the bunnies keep using more advanced technology. Only recently I heard about a crew of bunnies who had built a spaceship shaped like their leader which shot pink lasers at everyone out of its eyes. I think there is no escaping…every day I feel like there is going to be a knock on the door, and an hpb will enter, its eyes flashing…hark! who’s that at the door? Must go investigate! I’ll write to you soon again!
-Scorpia
-Scorpia was never heard from after she deposited this letter into the mailbox. She had one in her room. There have been tiny hot pink footprints found right outside her dorm…
Dear neighbor of my 18th cousin, 17 times removed,
I recently used my adress book in a Rube Goldberg machine (the purpose of which was to fill a mug with water), forgetting that I might need it. In the course of my scientific endeavours, it was burned and all that I could salvage from the wreckage was a tiny piece of paper with you adress on it. Please oh please be so good as to send me my 18th cousins adress as I long to speak with him.
With most affectionate thanks,
The 18th cousin of your neighbor
Oh by the way, in reference to my previous post, despite the fact that no direct reference is made to MA, the assumption is that I made said machine while there.
((might as well send another postcard, it’s been a while))
Dear Ashley,
Well, spring break’s been fun. I painted a lovely landscape of a beach that I visited. Unfortunately, one of my students left in favor of a pie-kwon-do class, so I’m down to four now. Ah well.
See you soon!
Jen
Dear Nanny Niki,
By the time you get this, I’ll be on my plane home for Spring Break. Iceland’s nice, but it will be great to get back to New York. I’ll show you my report card when I visit with Mom and Dad.
You may have heard about the Ghost Ship Incident. It was pretty tense, but nobody got seriously hurt and we’re okay now.
Your adoring granddaughter,
Kai
Dear Nak,
How are things in Ohio? Here in Hyperborea, we’re getting a welcome dose of light and warmth, and the Academy is humming along nicely. Main topic of excited conversation: the May Day Ball, preparations for which are in full swing.
The new pie kwan do class has been a huge hit. Master Lao started the first session with a tour de force, slicing and serving a cloudberry pie in the blink of an eye with his bare hands. Heaven knows how he did it or how many years of practice it takes to achieve that level of skill. I’d love to take a high-speed film of that trick some time.
I hope you’re keeping well and staying silly.
Cheerio,
Robert
Summer~
You should come. Mysteries are rampant. MA rocks.
~Kokonilly
Dear Emily,
We’ve found a strange decoration that may be the enterance to a secret passage. We’re not really sure what’s behind it. After the ghost ship incident, I’d advise you don’t show this letter to anybody until I send another.
Ankh, Wadjet, Seneb,
Kai
Hello, Polly! I’m glad to hear that your new parrotlet is behaving himself and that your latest YA book is going well. Yes, I’ll be delighted to give it a “beta read” for you. Are you hiding a sonnet in this one, too? And could I interest you in a puffin puff? (Sorry, that’s sort of a Muse Academy joke, except that it’s not a joke. You don’t want to know.)
Sunnily,
Robert
Found in scorpia’s mailbox a week after she vanished. It’s to MA, not from there, but still…
Dear Scorpia,
I hope all’s well in MA. I wish I could have gone! You are so lucky. My parents wouldn’t let me. They said I need to carry on in the School of Zeus. Pity.
-Medea
No one’s posted in a while, but here goes…
Dear Mom and Dad,
I hope everything is good back in faerieland. Either way, my daemon, the hot pink mouse, has become rather unsettled. I think he senses something…something creepy…
Meanwhile, I have been Sorted. Lasley House, just like you. Well, Bye for now,
NAPOI
Dear Emily,
I don’t know if you’ll ever get this letter, but I’m writing it anyway. Me and some other kids are exploring the underground tunnels, which are full of dangers. We escaped ferocious beasts, booby traps and Nazis, but to evade a T. Rex, we had to lock ourselves in a cave, and Darth Vader’s here, too. I don’t know how we’re going to get out, or even if we are. Oh, and my friend is showing signs of having unlimitted cosmic powers. But at least I’m not at home, stressing over final exams.
Ankh, Wadjet, Seneb,
Kai
Never a dull moment at Muse Academy, it seems.
Dear Parents,
This has certainly been exciting. I am writing this letter as I sit in MedLab, because of a situation I don’t really want to discuss. With a broken right arm. AND I have learned about the fact that my friend Groundhog is next to useless when it comes to running. But at least I’m not at home, stressing over whether I should go to Harvard or Yale. And Verian is thinking about settling as a HPB. I hope she stays as an ocelot, though.
I do hope you get this letter.
Love,
AvalonGirl
((I’m 13. Deal with it. Well, my characters are 13, anyway…))
dear Mom and Dad,
Muse Academy is great! you’ve got a spike pie in your face every day, you answer to roll cal at six every morning…just joking.
There’s been a few HPB attacks, but other than that, everything’s been going fine. I spend much of my time studying outside on the fantastic grounds, and get in a daily run.
love and pies,
-ZVX
