Just upstairs from the ball, dancers will fine peace and quiet (sometimes) and a lovely moonlit view of the North Atlantic Ocean. Continued from Part 1.

    ((I’m baaaa-aaaaack…… Am I still hypnotized?))
Pillsbury Doughgirl and I advanced toward the Thing. At the same time, we reached our arms up and touched its surface. It felt cool, but heated up quickly. It began to vibrate, and suddenly we vanished.
My first thought was that it was a little like a Portkey. Interdimensional wind rushed by us, but we seemed to be glued to the Thing. It got colder-then hotter-then colder again- and we flew through a hole in the sky and landed back in the Rooftop Garden.
Something was very strange. (The wind had knocked us out of our hypnotism.) No one was talking. Or moving at all. I looked up and saw a sort of rent in the air. “Hurry! Pull it apart or we’ll be stuck!” I jumped on top of the fountain and pulled at the air. ((continue…I have to go))

Then, I saw someone conjure an eclair and ate it after a spasm of coughing and burst out laughing. After I finished wiping my tears, I grabbed a broom and started sweeping. Well, I might as well sweep to keep myself entertained, I thought. After ten minutes of serious sweeping I was very bored. I went back down to the ballroom.

  18. Punk Goddess submitted the following post for this thread. Having just finished cleaning up the rooftop garden, we GAPAs think it’s a bad idea to mess it up again. Both in the ballroom and in the garden, we strongly discourage explosions, concussions, and anything more violent or exciting than you would find in the pages of a Jane Austen novel. We think you should talk it over before pursuing this storyline.

I run on to the garden, looking about covertly. Walking to the center of the garden, I throw the suspicious-looking parcel in my silver handbag on the ground and run away.

    BBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the smoke finally clears up, I peer around, horrified by what I have unknowingly done. Everyone is lying on the ground unconscious, and Miss Swann has spilled a purple drink on a plot of begonias.

    “Oops.”

And another favorite moment I just remembered — sitting out on the pier, which had a little sheltered area at the end, and watching a storm come across the lake. 45- ((Probably the most beautiful rain-related experience I’ve ever had was at summer camp. It was early afternoon and the weather had been impeccable for the past few days. The sunshine had continued through the morning, and I remember that the sky was that dazzling blue that is the tradmeark of “good weather”. There were no meteorological hints of any impending storm, not even a single cloud. At around 3:00, I got that instinctive feeling that a cloud passing before the sun gives one and I looked up. In the distance, like a herd of flying bulls, I saw a massive grayish brown cloud flying towards us at a tremendous speed. As their was no shelter in my vicinity, I sped up, hoping to avoid a total drenching. The cloud accelerated. So did I, though not nearly as successfully. That was the first, and probably the last time, I experienced the bizarre and ludicrous sensation of racing with a cloud….and losing miserably. Within minutes, the tempest was upon me. The rain was torrentuous: probably the heaviest I’ve ever had the [mis]fortune of being in the trajectory of. The thunder roared. The lightning flashed. It was overwhelminglyly intense: as though all of the elements were unleashing their wrath. Then it was gone. I watched the cloud receed into the distance until it was nothing more than a speck in the far off distance, and the sky returned to the lovely shade of periwinkle it had been before the assault. The puddles accumulated in the sodden ground were the only remaining witnesses to the fierce storm that had raged moments before. That and the rainbow gracing the sky. It was magical!))

“I’ll save propreity for the ballroom,” I yell, spreading my arms wide and beginning an elaborate rain dance. “Up here, I will be insane!” My balldress becomes alarmingly soggy, but I am unperturbed. It will dry, aided and abetted by MA technology, and for now all that matters is the rain…

The clouds have blocked out the full moon, making the garden almost totally dark in some places. I see a group huddled under the gazebo, and a few who have changed clothes and started dancing in the rain.

I walk to the side of the roof and stare at the campus of MA, the city on one side, and the forest on the other. The rain becomes heavier and lightning flashes in the distance. I notice something pink and sparkly under the gazebo, and decide that I shouldn’t go near it for a while.
I walk back to the pond I was at earlier and sit on the rock. The rain sounds lovely on the water, and I can see my reflection when the lightning flashes.

The rain slows down, but the lightning is still there. I remember that it is not good to be near water when there is lightning, and even though it is beautiful, I leave the pond. As I wander the gardens, I find a circular plot of white roses and sit down in the middle.

  99. (96, 98) No need to be sad. Sometimes it’s wiser to call off a wedding — even a virtual one — rather than to go through with it for no better reason than to please other people. I suppose we could celebrate a non-wedding if we need an excuse for a party….
