Born on 25 May 1859, he gave the world Sherlock Holmes (who, by the way, said both “elementary” and “my dear Watson,” but never together). A few pies of gratitude, please, for the Master.
Patience, Please

I never read those books, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
First post?
I’ve read a little by him. Very nice characters. Also slightly creepy. *birthday-pies Sir Arthur*
*bday choklit pies* The Hound of the Baskervilles is Sherlock Holmes, isn’t it? That’s the only story of his that I’ve read, and that was awhile ago. I liked it, but I keep adding more things to my “to read” list that keep me from getting to the rest of the Sherlock Holmes stories. :p
Happy Birthday, Sir Arthur!
P.S.- I do not think you were behind Piltdown Man. That was Dawson and Woodward, the sneaks.
*Tobbaco pies*
I love sherlock holmes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I grow up, if I have the money, I’ll start collecting copies of Sherlock Holmes-The complete thing or separate books-paperbound, clothbound, leatherbound-whatever.
Life Is Purple?!
I knew I would find you here!
Happy Birthday, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!
6-Oh, you knew, did you?
While I do not appreciate the fact that Mr. Holmes smoke, drank, and did cocaine, I will nonetheless pie you with a shepherd’s pie. *pie*
I recently found a copy of the complete, annotated Sherlock Holmes and have read nothing else for weeks. Huzzah!
An annotated Sherlock Holmes? That would be wonderful.
Happy birthday, Sir Arthur!
8,9-I have had the complete sherlock holmes, but it is not annotated
.
And you people do realize that it is Sir Arthur’s birthday, not Sherlock Holmes’s.
Incidentally, when is Sherlock’s birthday?
Thank you, Sir Arthur, for writing The Hound Of The Baskervilles, which I have just finished reading. I believe it is one of the best books ever written.
Stanford has a great online collection of Sherlock Holmes stories here: http://sherlockholmes.stanford.edu/archive.html. And they’re annotated! And have great illustrations too!! The Hound of the Baskervilles is among the collection.
Ooh la la! Happy birthday, maitre of detective stories!
My favorites are “The man with the twisted lip”, “The Hound of the Baskervilles,”, “The Return of Sherlock Holmes, “The blue Carbuncle” *drones on* Oh forget it…I think I’ll just face the sad truth. I am irrevocably addicted…and undeniably proud of it. I have read every single one.
14-I haven’t read all of them, but Life is Purple insisted that I must. I didn’t anyways…
Sorry, Life is Purple.
9- It was bought many years ago, e.g. 1992, so I do not know if it is still in print. Title: The Annotated Sherlock Holmes: The Four Novels and Fifty-six Short Stories, Complete. Editor: William S. Baring-Gould. Publisher: Wings Books. ISBN: 0-517-48102-2. Complete with illustrations, extensive introduction, and bibliography.
16- Ummm…
You looked it up?
I would never have cared as much…
17-*grumbles*
see you in on monday.
17- It was sitting right next to me. Plus I always want to bring others to excellent literature.
19- Yes!
Excellent Literature!
NERDS! *cough cough*
wow…
Ive never read his books though, but I want to.
(21,2-) “Shun the nonbeliever! (Shunnnnn!)”
21: People call me a nerd all the time, so your commment doesn’t really sting. And I take that as a compliment, FYI. (And for further confirmation, I have the largest vocabulary in the 6th grade (do you know what “acrimony” is, without looking in a dictionary?), I spend my lunch in the library, and I’m reading the dictionary! Hee.)
24: “It’s a leoploridon, Charlie! A magical leoploridon!”
A favourite quote:
Gregory: “Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?”
Holmes: “To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.”
Gregory: “The dog did nothing in the night-time.”
Holmes: “That was the curious incident.”
