WHITE
Me? I never got an opponent in the other thread…
Level B-C.
Really? cool! White goes first, so…
*waits for bookworm*
I will play someone!!! please!! i didnt get to play at all in the last 2 rounds! I will play whoever wants to
Righto, earthgirl. You can replace The Bookworm, who was on the blog yesterday but didn’t move.
ok! so I am playing giminator? if you don’t mind. would you like to be white? I have a thing for black. it is so…mysterious mwa ha ha ha! or you can have it.
White can be mysterious, too, earthgirl. Think Jadis, the White Witch of Narnia. Your move!
I’m confused. i forgot what our board looked like. i do not have one set up at home. plus, i was in new hampshire last weekend which is whay i did not move.
eragon — You can see your board on v. 2, Board 5:
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=1421
You don’t need a real board. You can play the game entirely from the diagrams, if you like.
um… robert, where is my board?
oh yeah! and is this a whole new game or am I picking up where bookworm left off?
It should be visible. Which browser are you using? Have you cleared its cache?
what browser? I just go to the website and start typing? what’s a cache? whatever it is, I musn’t have cleared it for I see no boards on v.3. I could just have a board by the computer and use that?
Sorry! I was pulled. Thanks for taking over, Earthgirl! Best of luck!
Bookworm — earthgirl hasn’t moved yet, and apparently can’t see the board.
As far as I’m concerned, anyone who moves and promises to show up fairly regularly may be White.
If I can move for White, then I guess I will!
d2 to d4!
Gimanator’s turn to move.
oh poo! NOW I can see the board!! when it dosnt matter anymore!!*theatrical sob* *clutches heart* jk! good luck bookworm!
can I move for gimanator?
Gim?
(18) earthgirl, Gimanator hasn’t reappeared, so as far as I’m concerned you may take the Black pieces on Board 1; your turn to move.
Unable to resist a THF-vs.-TMFA pairing, I’ve also created Board 2 for Taiwan Hippo Fan and The Man for Aeiou.
1. e4.
Turns to move on Chess 3: earthgirl and TMFA.
e5
chess 3: pawn to g5 ((in case i dont get the codage for chess yet, that’s the pawn in front of my right hand knight up 2 right?))
(24) You got it.
Board 2: Nc3 (That’s my knight on the left moving the closest to the pawns, in case I didn’t code that right)
((bookworm? your move!))
Nf6
Nf3, I suppose… I never really know what to do in the beginning of the game.
White: e3!
Nc6
Earthgirl!
sorry!!!
h7 ((warning- oh yeah, warnings sort of defete the purpose. never mind))
((oh yeah- 7- evil and mysterious are different in many ways))
33- what h7?
(33) earthgirl, do you mean h6? Your Pawn is already at h7.
oh yeah. thanks robert.
Can I have an opponent?
Or if not, I have a chess puzzle. Suppose you have a chess board with all the pieces in their normal starting positions, except for one black pawn who has moved 2 spaces out. According to the rules of chess, is this position possible?
White: c3!
Also: 38) Yes! White Knight moves out, Black Pawn Forward One, Knight goes back, Pawn forward one more! “White doubted itself” The Mysterious Benedict Society!
Turns to move: earthgirl, Taiwan Hippo Fan.
k to c6
(42) You must mean N to c6 (N is the symbol for Knight; “K” means “King”), so the move is 3. … Nc6.
Turns to move: The Bookworm, Taiwan Hippo Fan.
Bishop to, erm… c4. I think.
Gah, I hate the beginning of the game. There’s probably something horrible with that move that I can’t see.
Sorry I took so long, TMFA.
White: g3! Warning: I will be away for a week without computer. Please do not replace me, as I am returning! I may be able to come on at some point this week, but not often!
Turns to move: earthgirl, TMFA.
40 – I love that book!!!
bishop to g7
Qe7
kokonilly???
*yawn* Sorry, I just woke up.
d4.
Turns to move: The Bookworm, THF, peary moppins.
b2 – b3
(sorry for double posting)
morning, kokonilly
(54) peary — You must be turned around. Do you mean you want to move a pawn from b7 to b6, or from g7 to g6?
uuhhhh……..
oh yea, b7 to b6
sorry.
e4.
I know some tactics, but I was never too good at chess club. (Actually, I was an utter failure.)
ha ha, same here
i was the oldest in the begginers chess club and this little kid beat me
*wrings head in shame*
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE LITTLE KIDS EVERYONE!!! THEY ARE STRONGER THAN U THINK!!!!!!!!
btw, c7 to c5
Nb5
I’ll do it tomarrow.
Bf4
…I was in chess club, and I think I got the award at the end of the year for “Most Improved” or something.
When I started, I hadn’t played chess for five years.
Pd6
Nf3
Pf6
Somebody likes pawns.
Bb5
66) heh heh
that should be me, I suppose.
Pg5
Attack of the pawns!!!!!!!!!
CHECK. (If I forgot to mention it before)
69 – Uh-uh. You’re in check. I think. Right?
(69) You can’t do that, PM — you’re in check.
oops
Can I do Bd7? If I can’t I’ll do Kf7.
5. … Bd7 does the job.
YAY!
c4.
Pe5
d4xe5
Turns to move on this thread: The Bookworm, The Man For Aeiou, peary moppins.
Pf6 to Pe5.
I’m not exactly how to write going diagonal, something with xe in it?
Turns to move: The Bookworm, The Man for Aeiou, Kokonilly.
(79) In the program used to create these diagrams, your move is written 7. … f6xe5. (The “…” shows that it’s Black’s move, because White has already made her seventh move. Pawns don’t have a letter symbol, just the locations of the squares they occupy; the “x” means “capture.”) Most tournament players would write it more compactly: “7. … fxe” or even “7. … fe” because there are no other pawns on the board capable of capturing from the f file to the e file.
Bg5.
Nf6
80) Thank you!
So, erm, TMFA?… care to take your turn?
Nxe4
6. Nxc7 Check
uh…bookworm?
wheren be-eth thoust? [Yikes!][Correction: Where art thou?]
[Thou art setting thy GAPAs’ teeth on edge.]
Kd8
Kokonilly?
You here?
88 – Sorry about that. h4
89) It’s ok.
h6
Nxa8
I hope that wasn’t stupid…
Nc3 *headdesk* Man, that is my weakness. Not seeing moves before they come.
Ne7
(93) Sorry, PM, but that’s an impossible move.
What?
Oh, ok then.
h6xg5
I was wondering why Kokonilly would let that happen.
Er… TMFA? I think it’s been four days… Will you please make your move?
Nf4
That move doesn’t work, TMFA.
Ng4
(100) I’m sorry, TMFA — Ng4 is not a possible move. Did you have another knight move in mind?
g2
Ng5 ?
(103) That’ll work. Look at the board and see if that’s what you were trying to get.
104- yep.
I’m back! Nf3!
I’ll play, if there’s anyone else who will play with me.
(107) Syllabub, I’ve set you up as White on a board with Adeia — White’s move! Adeia, here’s a new opponent for you.
I don’t see the board. Do I need to disable something on my internet?
Try (1) hitting the browser’s “refresh” button (usually an arrow or arrows curling in a circle); (2) quitting the browser and restarting it; or (3) emptying its cache (usually an option from a pulldown menu at the top of the screen).
I did all 3 (unless I didn’t do the cach thing right, which my computer whiz Dad said I did) and I still don’t see the board. Will it show up if I do a move?
If you did everything right, you should be seeing it by now. Do you have a different browser you could try?
No, I don’t have another browser.
Is there an opponent for me available? I’m not very good at chess, but I love playing it.
Peary? You there?
114-I’ll play you, and see if I can see the board this time.
Erm.. did my post come out?
Nope, it didn’t.
Ok.
Bf7
(118) peary — …Bf7 is not a possible move. Do you mean 11. … Be7?
b2 to b4
Adeia’s turn to move.
PEARY!
Peary, it’s been four days…
Gah! TMFA, I’m so sorry.
8. Whatever coding means “castle on the right side”
PEARY! IT’S BEEN OVER TWO WEEKS! *sigh*
125-I don’t think she’s been on the blog for two weeks….I haven’t seen her posts.
121- Where is Adeia?
Can I have a different opponent????
125- Sorry!!!! I haven’t been here for awhile.
Yeah, Robert, I mean Be7.
Board 1: a3!
Sorry it’s been so long!
Is it my turn?
129 – Thank you!
131 – Nope.
O-O
TMFA, I know I took forever to move too, but I’d appreciate the observation of the golden rule. Please move.
Turns to move: Earthgirl, The Man for Aeiou, peary moppins, Adeia.
Hrrm….
Pa6
When was Earthgirl last sighted?
Just Wondering…
Earthgirl hasn’t been on the blog since August 25.
137-If I were to ask you to guess whether she will ever make another move, what would you say?
HEY!! ADEIA!!! MAKE YOUR MOVE!!!!
… can I have another opponent???
I’ll take over Adeia’s game, if you like.
OK
Board 4: Black moves pawn to e5 (2. … e5).
knight g1 to f3
Board 4: Black’s pawn on e5 to e4 (2. … e5).
white’s knight on f3 to d4
Kokonilly?
146 – ‘Tis your move.
Board 4: Black’s bishop takes the b4 pawn (3. … Bxb4).
It is? No…I think it’s yours…
Peary Moppins made the most recent move on Board 3 (comment 135), so it’s now Kokonilly’s turn to move there.
TMFA, I know you’re on the blog, and it’s been almost a month since it became your turn — please move.
Can I have an opponent?
ZestyLemon: Why don’t you take over as Black on Board 4? I’ll crank the game back to your first move.
Sigh….I wish I could play….but my stupid old computer won’t let me see the board. *fumes*
Ba4
153- Ok!
Pd5
Has anyone seen Adeia on the blog lately?
Turns to move: earthgirl (still!), The Man for Aeiou, peary moppins, LadyGaladriel.
(sorry for the double post)
Ng4
Earthgirl appears to still be absent.
Wait… so I am now playing ZestyLemon?
Do you mean Pd4? I don’t think Pd5 is possible. Then again, I’m not much good at Chess and even worse when I can’t actually see where the pieces are on the board.
(161) LadyG.,
Yes, it looked as if Adeia was never going to return to the game, so I gave ZestyLemon her place. 1. … d5 is the correct move for Black; 1. … d4 would be impossible.
Do you mean that you can’t see the boards at the top of the thread?
(160) Bookworm,
I’ll take over her pieces if you don’t mind playing a GAPA, or we can try to find another opponent for you.
Wait… no, I can see the board, it’s just that I can’t see where the pieces actually are. They are in the same place as they would be at the beginning of a game. That’s probably how they’re supposed to be, it just confuses me cause I’m a visual/kinesthetic learner.
LadyG: Have you tried clicking on the double arrow (> > |) in the righthand red box? It will show you the current position. Clicking on the single arrow in the box next to it will march you through the game move by move. Clicking on the lefthand boxes will change the position back to earlier moves.
Ooh! Thanks!! That’s really helpful.
Kf3
(165) Lady G: You mean Nf3 (“K” stands for the king).
Oh. Oops.
TMFA? I know you frequent the MuseBlog, and I would very much appreciate your playing the game.
Nc6
162-I’ll play you!
(170) Righto, Bookworm: Black plays 5. … d5.
THE MAN FOR AEIOU!
How’s it going?
Come on, man, please play.
Lady Galadriel?!?!?!?!
Kokonilly?!?!
173- there is a new thread. V. 4, I was going to have a game with Raynpho but you can play me if you want.
Oh…ok then…
So what now?
Should I stop playing?
Keep playing, by all means!
OK, is it my turn?
Pd5
Does that work?
If you got a good enough name, write formerly Lady Galadriel on it to not confuse people.
I think you want Pd4.
180- probably. I’m terrible at this notation thing.
The move is written “3. d4” (there is no abbreviation for “pawn” in standard algebraic chess notation).
Nd4.
Oh, I hope that was a good move.
TMFA, in less than a week it will have been 2 months since your turn began, and it’s been more than two months since you ever posted on this thread.
You have been on the blog, I know, so please just post your move (or at least tell me that you’re paying attention).
♪ Oh where, oh where has Kokonilly gone…. ♫
Sorry about that. In other words….
KOKONILLY!!!!
Has she been on the blog at all?
Ah….sorry bout my double post. Triple post. Whatever.
186- she has changed her name to Mission:Improbable because of certain restrictions put on her by her parents
Board 4: pawn to h3
e5
Sorry, peary.
Nxg5.
Board 4: Nxd4
That was a stupid move. Oh well.
(191) Actually, it’s a good move.
No, it’s ok.
rh4
I have a bad feeling about this
xd4
The GAPA exercises his prerogative of making moves in games that have been stalled for more than a week:
Board 2: 8- … Nxf3 check
Board 3: 15- Bxd7 check
Board 4: 6- Qxd4
GAPAs, could I get a new opponent please? Or something? TMFA hasn’t shown up on this thread for ages, and I’d sort of like to play a game.
THF: I could take over TMFA’s game until/unless he decides to resume it — or maybe somebody else here wants to start a new game with THF? MuseBloggers in general seem to be unreliable chess partners, but maybe Cromwell will be interested after he finishes his game with Syllabub.
Is it my move?
Thanks Robert!
Queen captures Knight — f3 I believe.
I think that’s the best choice right now…
Board 2: 9- … f6. THF’s turn to move.
h3, I suppose. I hope there wasn’t some hidden meaning to your move and now I’m dead.
No, I was just protecting my f pawn from attack by your bishop and queen.
Board 2: The GAPA (still moving the black pieces in TMFA’s absence) plays Qd6; THF’s turn to make her 11th move.
I’m sorry! I’ll take over, thank you robert!
(204) Okay, but you’ll have to go after that knight and stop giving away your pieces — THF is a warrior-princess!
Yeah, no joke—that knight’s been sitting there for ages. If you take my queen, I can find a way, but the knights are irreplaceable.
Bishop to f7.
He should take your queen, too, if you leave it lying around, but that seems unlikely.
Turns to move: Board 2, TMFA; Board 3, peary moppins; Board 4, ZestyLemon.
Bf6
I mean Be7.
Queen to h5
g6
I’m kind of detached from this game now… just sort of moving pieces around. If you didn’t notice.
Qg4
Sleep-walking through a game isn’t fair to your opponent. I sense that it’s time for me to close this thread. Anyone care to argue for a reprieve?
No, I just really wish I had a way to play this game faster and sort of in person—I didn’t mean that I was “sleep-walking” or that I wasn’t really playing.
f6
f5
Where did ZestyLemon go? Anyone see her?
Qc4
h5
Ne7
Qxd4
I do believe my move isn’t up yet- Qxd4, please? ZESTYLEMON, IT’S YOUR MOVE!!!
(222) RoseQuartz: Your move (6 – Qxd4) is up, and ZestyLemon has responded (6 – … Ne7). It’s your turn now.
On Board 3, the GAPA moves for peary moppins (15 — Qxd7); turns to move: THF, Kokonilly, RoseQuartz.
224- No, I moved again. I moved Qxd4 again. Post 222.
RQ, you can retrace the moves on your game board, above: your queen took the pawn on d4 on move 6 and is now on d4. (I made the move for you in comment 195.) She can’t take anything else there and move there again. ZestyLemon responded with 6. … Ne7. It’s your seventh move now.
Ah. Qxd5.
