Yes! New thread! Thank you, dearest GAPAs. Now, about the letter. I’m not going to send it quite yet. Let’s wait until we receive our January issues, and see if it is even necessary. If we find that no significant changes have been made, we’ll revise and send it. Now, Armada suggested skipping the quotes and only having the letter parts and the sigs. What does everyone think of that?
Dunno, I haven’t read the latest version in months. The rest of it sounds fine, though.
I personally like the atmosphere of muse. That’s probably just me, because I know the rest of you are ticked off at the magazine. I like the feel of the Contents page. It makes me want to read the articles. the only issue that bored me out of my mind (I did not read any of the articles) was the 2008 elections issue (I think that’s october). USofA politics are ridiculously confusing and boring to The Canadian. I mean Canada’s politics are waaaaaaaaaay simpler. I can name maybe 5 USofA presidents. I can also name maybe 5 Canadian primeministers. oh I am pathetic. oops sorry. This posdt was going to be me praising muse but it turned into me lamenting about politics. Anyways, I love muse. My favorite pages are probably the mail pages. I also generally tend to enjoy the last page.
I adore Muse !
One (and only) cirticism:
Devil is a HPB in disguise ! Since muse replaced all cat & dog comments with HPBs, why is devil still a dog ?
4 – What’s Devil? And what cat and dog comments are you talking about? On the blog?
5- devil is Kokopellis dog. There was a cat vs. Dog was in the magazine.
5 – Devil is Kokopelli’s dog. There was this huge cat and dog war with the Muse letters a while back (apparently: I wasn’t a subscriber yet, but one of my first issues was with the Elizabethan article), in which the editors replaced all cat/dog comments with HPBs.
I started reading Muse after Devil disappeared, right after the cat/dog issues, and right before the introduction of the HPBs. Devil seems pretty cool, but I’ve only read a few issues that involve him in the comics. (mostly back issues)
Yay, finally a thread for this!
3-I’m not really ticked off at Muse, I just agree with Piggy and everyone else that there have been some changes made to the magazine lately that are somewhat annoying. We’re sending the letter (if we are sending the letter) in the hope that changing Muse back to the way it was it will make the people who are ticked off happier, and not make the people who are fine with the way Muse is mad. If you can follow all that.
I want my issue, and then we can talk about the letter.
I kinda liked it how it was…but Im not bothered…it is still Muse…
8, Devil lives on ! Most recent sighting:
Nov/Dec issue, p.33, lower right corner behind Kokopelli.
He also appeared with great frequency in 2003/2004, as well as Jan-June 2007.
In the Birthday issue of Muse, he’s right in the center of the cake (and in the comic too) !
9- I just feel like everyone’s making such a big fuss over it. Things change. Nothing stays the same. Muse was obviously going to evolve over time. I understand what you guys want back. I just think you (all those involved with the letter, not specifically you) need to accept that Muse is never going to be what it was in your minds. Sorry if I’m the one to break it to you, but the image you have built up about Muse is never going to match the magazine. Things are always changing and I think musers are the people who least like to accept that. I mean have you even seen the complaints about the way MB is changing? It’s really getting quite old and almost ridiculouse. I feel like everyone needs to get over themselves and accept this stuff. I’m getting tired of hearing complaints. If you expect everything to stay the same you are going to have one disapointing life.
I agree with TMFA, that we should wait to get our issues before we talk about this much more – otherwise, it’s all speculation.
13 – Yeah, I’m one of those that wishes Muse was more like it used to be, but I think we need to accept that, while Muse might not be the old-good, we can help make it a new-good.
13- We’re all aware that things change over time. That’s an obvious fact. We just want to make the changes beneficial. Is that so bad? Trying to help Muse? If you don’t want to hear “complaints”, you shouldn’t read this thread.
15- oh don’t get mad at me. There are suprisingly few complaints on this thread. You guys need to send your letter or whatever you’re doing and get over it. don’t waste you’re energy getting mad at me. It’s not going to get you anywhere.
16- Your last post was just a bit… testy. I thought it deserved an annoyed response. I’m sorry if I offended you or anything.
I’m making myself too many enemies. I should just steer clear of places that involve opinons.
The issue is… good.
13-Don’t get me started, Kagy. Please. Muse may be changing, but we don’t have to like it. We don’t have to accept it, either. And Muse does not have to change. It’s been published for, what, twelve years now? And it’s only become like… like this in the last year or so. The ‘image of Muse’ that we have in our heads is not an imaginary image. Its a real one, created by ten years of Muse that matched the image in our heads. If you don’t want to hear complaints, stay off this thread. Nobody’s forcing you to hear them. Okay?
Guys, it just occurred to me. Muses are written a couple months in advance, right? So even if there were changes made in the magazine because of our discussion, we probably wouldn’t see them until at least March. So don’t get all mad at the editors because you haven’t seen the changes you wanted to see in this issue. Which I’ve received, by the way. But I’m too tired to discuss it.
*sigh* I don’t have my issue yet.
Most Favorite Issue: Either the one about the Tower of London (October 2005, I think?) or the election one, the one spoofing Time on the cover. I brought it to school during our election unit and we had an assignment involving one of the articles (the article was photocopied off my copy).
Least Favorite Issue: The one with a bridge on the cover. See, I barely even read it so I don’t know what it was about.
my favorites were the language one, (had to back order that one i missed it when the mail down here stopped after hurricane katrina), the optical illusion one, the food styling one, the clothing one, and the one with the caricature article
