Yesterday Kittymine reported:
((GAPA’s: URGENT MESSAGE- SOMEONE HAS POSTED A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF ABOVE THE USUAL SIDEBAR.))
And Groundhog amplified:
…it’s on the sidebar, above the calendar. It looks a lot like the “Most Recent Posts†list, except that it doesn’t have a header. It’s a list of “buy this, buy that†sort of stuff. I’m not going to mention what they wanted you to buy, it’s kind of inappropriate. It’s not showing up on my laptop either, but I can confirm that it was showing up on our family’s computer.
Does anybody else see what they’re seeing? The GAPAs don’t, and our Web host says our site’s code seems to be in order. If it’s just Groundhog and Kittymine, then it seems likely that their computer has been infected and they need to run some anti-virus software.
If you ever see advertising of any kind on the blog, please let us know, because we certainly won’t have put it there.
I’ve never seen anything on MB ?!
I sure haven’t
I see nothing of the sort…
WOW! Anyone who would hurt the blog is a sick person!
I don’t see anything.
That’s odd. Not me!
I have seen no such evil advertisement.
Advertising?! On MuseBlog?! Sick, sick, sick.
I can’t see anything, either.
I don’t see anything.
Nein.
I agree that it’s probably a virus on your end, I just dealt with a computer doing did that.
nope, i don’t see anything, thankfully.
I don’t see anything.
Back in 2007 I saw drug adversting at the very bottom of the page, below the “© Copyright 2009 MuseBlog. All rights reserved BlixKrieg.
BlixKrieg Theme by uTheGuru. Powered by WordPress. Login” message. but that’s it.
Nope. MB’s still kosher for me. It could be a virus or bad cookies on their computers.
I see nothing.
Nothing for me…
I don’t see anything, nor did I yesterday when they posted their comments.
nor me.
What everyone else has already said. I see nothing.
I would agree with Robert, that it’s a problem on our end, but our virus software is up to date, and updates every week. In any case, the ads seem to have disappeared.
21- Well, maybe that’s it. It’s possible that it just updated, while everyone else’s was already up to date.
22 – Mine is most definitely not up to date.
21-23: I don’t even have antivirus on my computer….The techies told me that since it is a Mac, and there are (supposedly) only a couple of viruses “in the wild” that would affect it, not to get it, since it will just slow down my computer and make it somewhat sluggish.
Of course, if the working theory is that you actually have a virus, not that your software is just not up to date, then this really has no bearing…..anyway, I dunno.
Virus software doesn’t always work either, because it’s implemented after viruses re found. A true prevention would be to use/make a safer operating system. The computer I mentioned had antivirus software also.
21 – Well, it’s either that or someone had been messing with the MSN server or something, because Kitty was accessing the BA pages from her favorites.
GAPAs, this is probably outside your domain, but I went on the musemagkids town hall and tried to post a comment. I think it got through, but Safari went berserk. I had to quit and restart it several times before it worked again. It isn’t part of MB, but maybe you could tell the people in charge of it.
Sidebar adverts. Not on Museblog, not for me, but is anyone else here plagues by that belly fat advert? There are two; the one with the before and after pictures, and then the one with the belly jiggling out of its shirt. It FOLLOWS me, wherever I go. I tried to go on freaking Neopets to get rid of it, but it followed me there, too!!!!!!!! (And it’s at school!!!!!
)
I don’t see anything, but I’ll check on windows.
….Nope. I see nothing.
I don’t know munch about this stuff, but it seems that this could be the fault of the large security hole in the internet that allows people to reroute people who are browsing to dummy sites that look and operate the same but may have minor altercations. This may not be an issue if Dreamhost has patched it’s servers, but if not it is a viable possibility.
No ads for me… but there was an article I read online on the New York Times about the possible need to create a “second internet” or something like that… the mole’s comment reminded me of that. I’ll see if I can find the link–I thought it was interesting. (sorry for the link, I don’t mind if it’s not posted)
http://www .nytimes.com /2009/02/15/weekinreview/15markoff.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=new%20internet&st=cse
I have indeed seen the dreaded bellyfat ad, and I was not amused.
This whole topic shows how ignorant I am about the internet… I know nothing about viruses or how the web actually works .
28–Hehe, yeah. I”m rather sick of the stupid belly fat ad myself. I don’t need to be confront with someone’s, well, saggy stomach everywhere I go…..
28- It was on NEOPETS????
If I were a little kid on Neopets and saw that ad, I would go running to my mommy.
Sorry, that was a PoPo.
To make it NOT a PoPo I will say that I have never seen any sidebar advertisements.
31- Ah, yes, I read that too. I disagree with the article because I think it doesn’t really explain what’s happening at Stanford, or where the work will lead. Of course, no one can tell for sure, but the article was really vague. Hardware will never be updated system wide, so backward compatibility is essential, as is privacy. Net Neutrality is completely threatened by a system that allows ISPs more control over users, so hopefully any system will be designed to be more fluid, not more structured.
People get really excited about new, fuzzy technology, like Web2.0. If the technology is good enough, the average user won’t notice the change.
/useless info.
To learn about how the web works, Howstuffworks.com explains well enough.
32/33- My own belly fat is enough, thanks… and yes, it was on Neopets. I was playing Faerie Bubbles (the only reason I still go on that website, to shoot those little colored bubbles at groups of other bubbles), and it jumped out at me.
On the topic of the Internet GAPA’s, if you can program, could you make a museblog iphone app? Pritty please……
36- Har! As if the GAPAs have the time for that. Just go to MB on your iPhone.
But on the random thread I have to scroll down for like 2 minutes to get to the coment space. The way you responded to that was very mean Piggy.
38–I don’t think he meant to be mean. Isn’t there a shortcut key you could press to scroll to the bottom? Can you neither grab a scroll bar and pull it down as one does on a computer, nor press a series of keys? For instance, command combined with the down arrow takes me to the bottom of pages on my laptop. I have no experience with iphones, so sorry if this sounds stupid….
39- It was just a sugjeston. Thanks for the attempt
37- Be nice. It’s not a bad idea, if the GAPAs have the time.
It’s almost 8PM…………I hope the GAPAs are alright, not, you know, been kidnapped and tortured by characters from Highlights magazine and thus unable to make a new random thread…..
*worries*
It’s nice to see the original colors back though.
Do you run Linux?
42- I know, it’s worrying me. We need a new random thread!!!!!!
42– (42!) I was thinking more along the lines of kidnapped by Koko for target practice. I mean, it would be just a wee bit weird if Robert’s hypothetical reason for GAPA delays had actually come to pass…..
45- Stranger things have happened…
46–That’s true….
Google posts?
Come on guys. It’s going to show up at approximately 11:59 PM. Take a hint.
If it was really Google, the name would be a link.
49- Okay, um… Mr. Google search engine, I’ll do that.
I know you’re not a GAPA, they have better punctuation. And green names. Am I right?
Well,at least there’s been some moderation, so they’re still alive. Who knows, maybe Craww wanted to ask them for some pointers on his poetry and then Feather asked them to dinner at his house?
Maybe they’re having dessert right now or with Chad and Urania looking at the new telescope he built her. *shrugs*
In any case I have to go help mom with dinner some more. *sigh* I’m HUNGRY!
Google is an AE, from the AE thread who has apparently not figure out yet that he/she is posting under his/her alter ego.
I’m betting it’s a problem with their computer.
Yes, I know this has been said already. I’ve seen this happen on other websites before, (not to me), and every time it’s turned out to be a virus.
Nope, I haven’t seen the ads.
I’ve just spotted the ads. Nas. I’ll have to up the firewall now.
Found this. Isn’t an ad, but I don’t know… it’s above the calendar.
Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/gapa/musefanpage.com/blog/wp-includes/class-template.php on line 27
It says this above the calendar:
Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/gapa/musefanpage.com/blog/wp-includes/class-template.php on line 2
Also, the blog took a while to load.
57–Yup, several of us have got that message today. The blog is also very unusually slow today.
So far you, Piggy, Midnight Fiddler, Jakob Wonkychair, and me have all got that today….
SFTDP…And it appears in both of my browsers, Safari and Firefox, and I’ve got a Mac (in case any of that makes any difference).
I’m using Firefox on a Vista.
BTW, when Groundhog said in post 21 that the ads disappeared, that was incorrect. Or perhaps, maybe they did disappear for a day but they’re still here now. I shall have to complain the MSN and attack my computer.
No, I haven’t seen that bellyfat ad. Thank god. It sounds revolting
SFTDP, but something has changed! Instead of the ad described at the top of the page, it has been replaced by the Warning:f(close) etc. that was seen by Piggy, Midnight Fiddler, Jakob Wonkychair, and Luna the Lovely. And the blog is loading very slowly on my end. Curiouser and curiouser…
SFTTP, but Groundhog just mentioned to me that the Warning:fclose() etc. looks like a warning that a compiler would give you when you are trying to compile a C program. She says it looks like a compiler warning.
I see the Warning:fclose() thing as well. And the blog is loading more slowly than usual for me too.
I’ve got the fclose, and the loading is long…
Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/gapa/musefanpage.com/blog/wp-includes/class-template.php on line 27
That’s what I see. And MuseBlog is loading unusually slow today.
Yup: Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/gapa/musefanpage.com/blog/wp-includes/class-template.php on line 27 has been on my computer all night, and it was on a school computer when I checked R&R this morning around 9:30.
Not to mention slow loading, and whenever I try to load SoCalKoKon it gives me… er… an error warning that it hasn’t given me yet. Didn’t give me. Ooops.
Sorry, gang — I still haven’t got to the bottom of this. If you see any new error warnings, please e-mail them to me.
Just as a matter of curiosity, did any of the ads involve a software product called Zend Optimizer?
69- I don’t think so.
I see the message. Still slow moderating. On the upside, this allows me to be on less, since it takes longer. I tend to be stuck to MB all day when I can. Anyway, I need to go. Chores… Blehrg.
I see it too. And the blog has been slow, but I thought it was just my stupidly sluggish computer. Hmmmmm . . .
72–No, it’s definitely not just your computer. I think everybody is finding the blog unusually (and painfully) slow. It’s like returning to the days of dial-up. *shudder* I barely remember those days, and I really don’t want to return.
73- Ah, yes, dial up. I wasn’t there then, but *shudders at the thought*.
SFTDP, but a thought just occured to me. Perhaps the Warning fclose etc. thing is saying that there is a problem in the code that is creating the undesireable ads (or so Groundhog thinks – I know nothing about computer programming and she knows tons).
69 – Not that I can remember. Most of them were for drugs of various kinds.
That’s so weird. It’s happening to me too.
