yay!
Al-bert Ein-stein! *clap clap, clapclapclap*
He da man!
E=mc(how do I do Squared) Happy B-Day, mr. smart. I hope you liked your hair, cause it really only matters what you think, not what other people think
Happy pie day(
pi day, not pie day!
i can’t wait until math class.
(1st post, oh yes)
Mr. Coontz, we’d be very grateful if you gave us some mathematical symbols.
Happy Pi Day everyone
Happy Birthday Mr. Einstein
I wonder how old he’d be in dog years…
to do any exponents go ^n, if n is the number you want it to be raised to. So it would be e=mc^2 (the ^ is above the 6). So that’s one way to do it.
*randomly muses….* (no pun intended…)
so if 3-14 is pi day, 1:59:26 is doubly pi day, and so is 3-14 1592 (at 6:54)
anyways…
the square root of MC is E
It’s pi day because the date is 3.14, but you already knew that
It 1:59 today it would be cool because it would be 3.14159
Also, on March 14, 1592, it would be 3.141592
We had pie in class today at 1:59. ‘Twas yummy.
By the way, it’s also Telemann’s birthday. I forgot his first name. Starts with a G, I think. (If you don’t know who Telemann is, you probably don’t play a string instrument.)
HAPPY B-DAY EINSTEIN!
E=MC2
Mwahaha
HAPPY PI DAY!!!!!!
YAAAY!
*celebrates*
*throws confetti*
AAH! KEEP MG AWAY FROM THE CONFETTI!!!!! (She keeps eating it)
*hangs up streamers*
*eats choklit cake*
*gasp* speaking of choklit cake, i was arguing with yaakov about the spelling of choklit today in the hallway to band class, and he turns to some random senior and goes “how do you spell choklit? cuz she spells it c-h-o-k-l-i-t” and then he goes “there’s no k in choklit” and to prove his point he calls to jake the extremely frightening baritone senior and asks if there’s a k in choklit and jake’s like “no” and then some idiotic orchestra guy goes “wait yes there is!” and then he’s like “wait no…” and then they were still arguing amongst themselves as we walked into the band room, and then after band courtney comes up and says “how do you spell choklit?” It was hilariously funny…
And quite off topic.
awww…it won’t let u do superscript. Stupid wordpress *kicks comp*
*is sad*
e=mc^2
e=energy
m=mass
c=speed of light
therefore,mass can be converted into energy. for further explanation, ask the GAPA, or a physcisist thats older than 12
DY (8),
Mmm, better check your algebra.
we were gonna have pi day today but no one brought anything in… so we’re having belated pi day tomarrow.
Happy birthday Einstein!
…ummmm…why?
The sqaure root of C times M is E?
HAPPY PIE DAY!!!!
I have an Albert Einstein action figure. I also have two Isaac Newton ones-action and reaction. Get it? Also, my science teacher, who was proctoring for our test, had a coffee cup that was a glass beaker with the caffeine molecular structure on it. However, it was wrong, so I looked at it disapprovingly and drew the correct one on paper. And then I drew Mendel squares for these fruit flies I’m trying to work with, who actually belong to a friend of mine in Australia, but I’m helping her out as a favor (she’s trying to plan her wedding instead, though fruit flies are much more fun), so I’m drawing the diagrams and trying to help her with some software so we don’t have to work so hard. But I digress. Anyway, it was a geeky moment. I also am wearing safety pins on my socks, so I have some amazingly froody street cred. Oh yeah. Happy birthday, Albert, you cuddly little dream-rabbit.
I would recommend looking up the theory of relativity on the Internet.
DY,
Start with E = mc^2,
that is, E = m * (c^2)
Take the square root of both sides:
sqrt (E) = sqrt ( m * (c^2) ) = sqrt(m) * sqrt(c^2)
= sqrt(m) * c = c * sqrt(m)
So you wind up with
the square root of E equals c times the square root of m
oh.
i get it.
thanks.
I didn’t get pie today
In eighth grade we had a big pie party, in ninth grade I didn’t get any and I didn’t get any this year either. Maybe next year…
err GAPA can u explain #13 to me?
flying circus— is yur name based on monty python?
if not, shame on you
DLoD (21),
Not as well as this Wikipedia article can. David Bodanis’s book, listed in the references, sounds good, too.
HAPPY PI DAY HAPPY PI DAY HAPPY PI DAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!
Happy Di Day! We had pie in math class but we also got a wksht
I’m going to make everybody a pie!
According to the equation, the maximum amount of energy obtainable from an object is the same as the mass of the object multiplied by the square of the speed of light.
ah
this explain it
thanks GAPA!
Okay, so I made you three pies. Sue me.

Last year in fifth grade we had a Pi Party on Pi Day. We had pie and saw who could recite the most of it. I won with one-hundred and eight digits. I became Pi Queen! Lemme see, I think I still know ’em…….

Because of Pi day i got my mom to bake a pie. it’s blueberry. I’ll send you all a virtual slice when it comes out of the oven.
Hey, you really shouldn’t leave that pie just sitting there. Someone might-

Happy Pi Day!!!
Kudos to Violetfire for remembering over 100 digits of Pi as a fifth grader!!! Wow! In sixth and seventh grades, my math teacher had part of Pi on the back wall, so I started memorizing from that. I now have 50 digits memorized, which is more than he had on the wall! (3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510)
I’ve nver gotten any pie for Pi Day.
My friend said she might bring some pie to school tomorrow though!
Cool. You all can have virtual pie!

That’s supposed to look like a slice of pie with a cherry on top….
something sort of off topic…I have a sticker on my door that says WARNING-I know what e=mcsquared means
also some random trivia about albert: he approved the patent for the box shape of the toblerone candy bar
You guys are all wrong! It’s spelled PI(E) Day!
sorry, Pi day, not Di day.
according to an eMail my science teacher got, it’s also Brain Awarness Day. 0.o
I had four pies so far today! I calculated the volume of each slice for each pie before I ate it! It was fun!
brain awareness day?
u mean like for people that werent aware of having a brain?
Snap. Third post today. Altho this thread is kinda irrelevant since it’s no longer pi day
bran awareness day? like cereal?
why isn’t St. Patricks day up there on dates to remember?
You can find St. Patrick’s Day on any old calendar. We prefer to list more exotic holidays. Suggestions are always welcome.
ok
as long as
everyone posts in green
Beware the Ides of March!
My birthday is in one week exactly!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yay! Einstien’s birthday! And pi day! Pi day = pie day = muse holiday! Has anyone ever seen the movie Young Einstien? Not to be confuzzled with Young Frankenstein. It has that weird haired Astralian dude Yahoo Serious in it.
#22 of course!
where else would i get such an outrageous name?
lol. i am in love with michael palin.
I missed Pi Day *is sad and ashamed* I haven’t been venturing off the monthly thread much lately. If I had known that Ebeth was going to throw confetti (yum, delicious), I would’ve come over here sooner.
flying circus-like the fish slapping dance and lumber jack song
Michael Palin is awesome but Eric Idle is still my fav. python.
We got our writing and lit teacher to let us celebrate pi day at 1:59 on pi day. hurrah!
I heard on the radio today that someone recited 83,000+ digits of pi.
jon cleese!
That would take about 23 hrs, if you said one # each second
i agree w/dlod!!! I ♥ john cleese!!!
Pingus: Down with the state *math test*
down with the state *math test*
down with-
Penguini:Yes, the all horrible state *math test*
caused pi dat to be CANCELED!!
Kororra: Pi day was canceled… Some people didn’t even KNOW it was pi day!
Penguini: Gasp
Pingus: (faints, falls on floor)
GAAAAH! I don’t know… I love Eric Idle but you guys are right… John Cleese is awesome. And Michael Palin…. and Graham Chapman…. and Terry Brooks…. and Terry Gilliam does such funny animations…. oh dear Ive named them all. I cant decide. We’ll just say Monty Python is my favorite Python.
Terry Brooks. I changed my mind. He does a great job in The Rutles, a brilliant Beatles send-up I have ranted about on this blog so many times. Incidentally, I’m going on vacation soon and seeing David Byrne, who I think is connected with MP in some vague way. Paul Simon was in The Rutles, as was Mick Jagger. Sample from the movie:
“I’m standing outside the actual hotel where the actual Rutles actually stayed. Inside the actual room I actually spoke to the actual Paul Simon.
Paul Simon: The thing I remember most about the Sgt. Rutter’s Darts’ album is getting stoned and listening to it with those big headphones…”
It’s a good movie. Just. Unbelievably. Brilliant. A loving send-up.
is it the day before yesterday already?
hey anyone ever go to http://www.angio.net/pi/piquery ? You can search for up to 1000 digits of pi. They have 2 million on the site!!
i love pi!! and math!! but i hate pi day, because my geeky parents use it as an excuse to invite all their banjo-playing math teacher friends over for a ‘party’–which basically means sitting around and drinking cheap soda
We were going to have a Pi party in my PATS class, but PATS is always on a wednesday so we missed it! We had to sit around looking at the leftover Pie all day *sniff*
I have a friend who used to know something like the first 50 digits of Pi.
Yes, but can you recite them from memory?
PATS?!? As in Program for Academically Talented Students?!? I’ve got the same thing, only it’s everyday and replaces regular Language Arts and Math classes with work that’s two grades ahead. Is that what your’s is?!?
We had a Pi Party last year, but this year Pi Day fell on the Wednesday we had ISAT testing. So nothing. But my family made a pie for the occasion.
And welcome to the Blog, Evil Esther!
no, it’s not… it’s an every wednesday of the week all day thing where chat about politics and James Burke and all the interesting stuff that we never do in normal school
Oh. Does everybody have it?
nope, we got tested in first grade, and whoever passed got into the class
Esther, you’re lucky. And so are you, Violetfire. Actually, I get to dissect a cow eye tomorrow, so so am I! Yippee!
I was tested in second grade. There were like 20 of us.
3.14159269835….I THINK that’s how it goes….But of course, Einstein DID say “Imagination is more important than knowlage”. If ol’ Uncle Al is saying that, we can pretty much trust it’s true….What other creative Honour Students agree with me??
(47) where?
My school doesn’t have that PATS thing. It just has some advanced classes. They’re not called PATS. OH well.
I celebrated Pi day as recommended. Then I realised the it wasn’t pi day over here, because we get 14/3 instead of 3/14. Our pi day is on 31/4, which you call 4/31. I shall celebrate that one as well, and have two slices of the pi. I like pi.
Paul,
You’ll need to orchestrate a leap year for April to get to 31/4. A computer virus might be able to pull it off.
Oh. Yes. Well, I shall put 31 days into my very own personal April. I don’t see why my April should be exactly the same as everyone else’s. That would be tedious.
we didn’t get pi day because of the *beep beep beep beep* math assesments
i appologies for my language even though i speek the truth
:X :X :X :X :X :X :X
what equals diameter? is it something times c+pi?? i need to pay attention in math more……..
d=r2 or d=c/pi. Or possibly pi/c. Not quite sure.
Diameter=r2
Area(of a circle)= pir2
Circumference=pid
75-methinks the pb&j just wants excuses to eat pi…hey? Shameless brit. Do it the american way-just grab it and don’t bother with excuses
Happy really belated Pi Day!!! I ♥ pi.
Defacing old threads!
The Pi Song
by some people in MathCounts 2005-06 at LMS, especially me, Mark, and Helen because we got extra credit for it.
sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Pi the number’s really great
Not the food that’s on your plate
It’s irrational, never ends
Phi and alpha are its friends
*3.14159
*C over D = Pi, that’s fine
Alternate ending: A=Pi R squared
It’s too long, we’re really scared
my birthday is on march 17th
