hmm. Cool. For me, though, summer starts when skool ends.
1- same here. 3 more days!!
Yay!
School got out for me about two weeks ago. WHOO!! And I have not slept one night of it before the morning came! Next year, though, we get out on the 15th because we’re starting AFTER Labour Day this year. I pitied my friend who got out 5 days later than me, but who’da thought they’d spand it THAT far? God, I feel sorry for you.
SUMMER FOR EVER!! (Unfortunately, living where I do, it’s virtually impossible for that to actually occur. Unless I stay here for when global warming officially beings to FRY the planet and boil the oceans. By then though, our state will be under water.)
I hate summer with a bloody passion. Besides the fact that I get school off, of course.
(4) That’s the schedule we always have; out around 15-17 of June, go back the day after Labor Day.

22 – he was hot…
CY! yikes. I hope it doesn’t grow back!
SCHOOL IS OVER!! today!! I am free!!
26–I hope it won’t.
End of school makes me miserable. In sixth grade, it was because it was my last homeschooling year and I didn’t want to go to public school. In seventh grade, it was because I had to leave all my friends from that school, because I was moving again. In eighth grade, it was because we’re all going to high school now, which means ANOTHER new school for me. Also, even though I didn’t have a lot of close friends at this school, I miss being with everyone every day. Summer = isolation.
30- *hugs* I’m sorry. Well, there’s us, all your crazy pie-throwing virtual freinds! (it’s not the same, though, I know)
I don’t think the solstice should be regarded as the first day of summer. I mean, think about it. We have solstices at the points in orbit farthest away from the sun and equinoxes exactly halfway in between. This splits the year into quarters with the extremes being at the begining and the end. Summer should be a time during which we pass an extreme amount of daylight in the middle (and vice versa for Winter), right? With the current system, theoretically, it would get warmer all winter and spring and cooler all summer and fall. The beginning of a book isn’t at the climax. The real beginning of a season, then isn’t a climax.
The only good explanation I have gotten is that it takes a while for the atmosphere to absorb the extra sun and change substantially. But it doesn’t take an eighth of a year, does it? I say, we “officially” have seasons like the meteorologists do. Spring is March, April, and May; summer is June, July, and August; autumn is September, October, and November; and winter is December, January, and February. In terms of the weather (which is what naming the seasons is all about, may I remind you), solstices and equinoxes aren’t such a big deal.
Does that make any sense?
A little.
7-Wow JV! its been what 3, 4 months?
Well, I figure that it doesn’t really matter, when summer starts, because its going to be there no matter what you call it.
And whether or not you name the start of a season doesn’t change when it occurs, unless you are a robot, of course, of course.
Meyciena, are you new, or someone else in disguise?
*pies anyway*
Lots of people over here who have forgotten how to be British were complaining that we haven’t had much of a summer. Since the solstice, we’ve had blazing heat, which is always oppressive in England because of the humidity. And the high pollen count has given everyone hay fever. Now we have thunderstorms. One house was comprehensively demolished by lightning and lots more flooded out. That’ll teach ’em to complain.
Actually, now I come to think about it, complaining about the weather IS British. Oh, it’s lovely to see the old standards being maintained.
37 – Wow, that sounds a lot like Kentucky’s weather! Other than the intense humidity outside, I don’t have any complaints about summer except that it ends too quickly.
I’m currently in Northern Michigan, and it is really cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon (sometimes), and chilly at night. It’s really awesome weather
