Life, the universe, pies, hot-pink bunnies, world domination, and everything
Name this, people? At least try?
I got this little kitty about 2 months back,
He was the nicest little kitty now a pain in my crack.
This little kitty is ninja always stalking my feet.
This little kitty is a warrior you know what I mean.
He’s an evil little kitty, look what he did to my hand.
Tries to get in trouble in any way that he can.
I can give this cat a toy but he’d rather have the wrapper.
When I always give him water but he still drinks from the crapper.
You could lock him in the closet and he just won’t care.
Kitty chews on my shoes and he licks on my hair.
Always scratching on my favorite chair and jumping on the couch.
Playing in the windowsills and tearing through the house
He is so full of energy and easily amused.
Kitty will attack anything that moves,
Causing trouble, starting battles just so he can be a part of
He’s the meanest little kitty so we named him Sparta.
Hey little Sparta what is with all the fight,
Little bitty kitty want to bite, bite, bite.
Where’d you go? Are you stalking me?
Are you under the couch? Quite possibly.
Ears laid back so you don’t get caught.
Ready to pounce my leg with everything you got.
I know you’re probably watching me from across the room.
Concentrating, contemplating on attacking me soon.
You’re not invisible kitty, I’m going to find you first.
Come out, come out, before I make things worse.
I’ve seen where you hide and I know where you’ve been.
Hey kitty why don’t you give in.
Even if you try to sneak up on me I’m prepared.
‘Cause I got my safety gear on and I’m not scared.
I think I hear a little kitty under the bed.
I know you’re making noises just to mess with my head.
You can stalk me all you want, but I’m not your prey.
You always seem to find me first, but not today.
Hey little Sparta what is with all the fight?
Little bitty kitty want to bite, bite, bite.
Come on now, I’m going get you now.
I’ve got him cornered and now he’s mine.
He’s not going to get away this time.
I’ll snatch him up fast and before he can blink.
And then, awww man, he’s a sleep in the sink.
What is with this cat? I’m confused.
He’s got a bed but its never been used.
In every waking moment kitty is up for the fight.
Then next minute kitty’s out like a light.
How could I let this little creature inside of my home.
I got to keep an eye on him when I’m on the phone.
I’m a little afraid to leave this cat all alone.
This kitty may destroy everything that I own.
Look at him now, I kind of feel bad.
He’s the best little cat that I’ve had
And the one big thing I forgot to mention
Was that he wasn’t fighting.
He just wanted attention.
Hey little Sparta what is with all the fight?
Little bitty kitty want to bite, bite, bite.
Showing love, that’s all this kitty does.
Isn’t that song supposed to be about a bunny?
No, the kitty’s actually good. That’s the difference.
MEAN KITTY SONG. :DDD luv that guy! did you hear he has leukemia though?
Google tells me “The Mean Kitty Song”. How about actual songs, rather than youtube memes?
This one just might be impossible.
I’ll buy you six bay mares to put in your stable;
Six golden apples bought with my pay.
I am the first piper who calls the sweet tune.
But I must be gone by the seventh day.
CHORUS
So come on-I’m the Whistler.
I have a fife and a drum to play.
Get ready-I’m the Whistler.
I whistle along on the seventh day.
All kinds of sadness I’ve left behind me.
Many’s the day when I have done wrong.
But I’ll be yours for ever and ever.
Climb in the saddle and whistle along.
CHORUS
Deep red are the sunsets in mystical places.
Black are the nights on summer-day sands.
We’ll find the speck of truth in each riddle:
Hold the first grain of love in our hands.
CHORUS
Not impossible if you have the album. But don’t worry, I won’t tell.
You have it???? Really??? Yay!
The Whistler, by Jethro Tull, from the album Songs From The Wood. Excellent album, albeit not what Tull are best at (namely hard rock à la Aqualung).
My turn! Let’s see… Ah. I won’t post the whole thing, just the first verse. Should be enough.
I was down at the New Amsterdam
I was staring at this yellow-haired girl,
Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation
With a black haired flamenco dancer
You know she dances while his father plays
guitar, she’s suddenly beautiful
And we all want something beautiful
Man, I wish I was beautiful
Difficult to write them out, as the singer from this particular band has a pretty liberal interpretation of metric rule.
Yes, you’re right!
I don’t know the name, but that’s by countering crows isn’t it?
counting*
lol countering crows…
“Countering crows” is what Pwt does.
I’ve heard that song before many times because it’s one of the few my dad can play on the guitar but I can’t name it!!! Argh!!! I’m terrible at remembering songs by name…if it comes to me I’ll definitely let you know though…the only part I do know is that the chorus involves Mr. Jones and Me but I’m not sure if that’s the title or not.
I wish people would wait until someone had established the correctness of the previous song (either by google or by certain knowledge) before moving on, but yes, the song is “Mr. Jones” by the Counting Crows.
Sorry, I will wait until the previous song is established next time…
Song: Mr. Jones
Artist: Counting Crows
Album: August and Everything After
(I have it)
Neither of these are full songs, as certain lines would give away their names.
Tuesday afternoon is never-ending.
Wednesday morning, papers didn’t come.
Thursday night, your stockings needed mending.
See how they run.
What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song,
And I’ll try not to sing out of key.
You really have to start listening to something other than the Beatles, my friend. I won’t even answer these.
I DO listen to something other than Beatles. I just don’t really like anything else as much.
Me too! Why doesn’t anyone else understand that?
Lady Madonna and With a Little Help From My Friends. By the Beatles.
I hereby bet that no one will be able to guess this one without the help of Google. Well, the song title is fairly obvious, but not the band.
They clustered ’round in fours
Hands full of mud and straw
Pushing it together
To make those great big walls
An armful of sand
Slips upon the table
And your skin is rough and broken so
A little blood will fall
A little blood will fall
A little blood will fall into the bricks
Lord, you know I’m right
I’ll be tickling your chin
Close enough to see what you look like
“Give up your foolish dreamâ€
That’s what my father said
I told him I’m the builder
I am not the architect
CHORUS
In the middle of the night, sometimes
I’m thrust rudely into awareness
A tall, gray doorway opens to the stars
At the foot of my bed
I’m afraid to catch my head
On the clouds at the top of the sky
People are so malleable
When you know the power of words
“Malleus†is “hammerâ€
So that’s how I get heard
Maria’s girl fell down, and I don’t think she’s getting up
Wee only made two feet today
Do you think that it’s enough?
Do you think that it’s enough?
Do you think that it’s enough,
Do you think?
Don’t you want to scrape the paint on the globe that spans the sky?
Don’t you want to see what lies beyond before you die?
I can only grieve for the hopes that lie as dead
I am not the author, friends, these are just the words I read
These are just the words I read
CHORUS
*We, not wee.
Wheee….
(I have no clue. At least I’m exercising self-restraint and not using Google, though.)
-A
I’m proud of you and your self-restraint. Wheeeee….
Ever since I was a young boy, I’ve played the silver ball…
No more should be necessary.
Two songs with the same story, derived from the same source:
The lady sits by her own front door, straight as a willow wand
when along there comes a lusty smith, his hammer in his hand
~~~
Hello, hello, hello, hello, you coal blacksmith
you have done me no harm
you never shall have my maiden’s name
that I have kept so long.
And I will die a maid, she said
and be buried all in my grave.
Than I’d have such a
nasty
husky
dusky
musty
fusty
coal black smith
a maiden I will die
~~~~~
We use both of those songs for a molly dance, Lord of the Fives. ‘Tis fun.
SFTDP
I hope Rebecca’s moderating right now.
As luck would have it….
Fortunately, the last round seems to have inoculated me to that particular song. In fact, I told someone about the incident not long ago with no ill effect. But seeing your post did give me a good laugh.
Obviously the first is Pinball Wizard by the Who, though I can’t identify the second and third.
The second and third were variations of the Chylde Ballad The Two Magicians. I thought there was a chance of the more folk-inclined inhabitants of the MB guessing them, but I guess I was out of luck.
I have two! The first I, again, defy anyone to know without Google-ing it, because it’s really obscure, unless you’re into REALLY obscure music, in which case, it’s one of the most well-known songs in that (small) genre. Anyhoo, here we go (by the way, it’s technically not lyrics, but they’re words and in a song, so there. And it’s post-apocalyptic and depressing, and that’s why it’s so brilliant.)
The car’s on fire,
And there’s no driver at the wheel,
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides,
And a dark wind blows.The government is corrupt,
And we’re all so many drunks with the radio on and the curtains drawn.
We’re trapped in the belly of this horrible machine,
And the machine is bleeding to death.The sun is fallen down,
And the billboards are all leering,
And the flags are all dead
At the top of their poles.
And it goes on… Anyways, that’s definitely easy to find by Google-ing, but I wanna know if anyone knows it without Google.
This next one I allow you to use Google on. I want you to use Google. I don’t know the name of this song, so help me! I don’t even know any words to it, just the “chorus”, if you can call it that.
It goes:
La, la, la. La-la-la-la-la-la-la la, la, la.
Etcetera, ad nauseum. It’s some kind of dance song, but I don’t know the title, or any more words. For anyone musically inclined, it’s something like: C, G, Eb (quarter notes), then Eb-D-Eb-F-Eb-D-C (eighth notes), then repeated (you play the C twice). Possibly it has to with going around the world. Help!
So yeah. Enjoy.
Wait, isn’t it “la-la-la-la-la, it’s all around the world….”? That’s Around The World (La La La) by ATC (A Touch of Class). I didn’t know anyone else liked that kind of music!
Yes! That’s it! That’s it! You made my day! Thanks. But I can’t find it on iTunes. Perhaps I’m not searching right.
I can’t either. Try Amazon or Youtube?
Found it on YouTube. According to Wikipedia, it’s only been released digitally recently, as part of Now 6, but that’s only on Rhapsody. Depressing.
Do we post entire songs, or just parts? Just wondering.
Either one.
High is the moon tonight
Hiding its guiding light high.
Heaven and earth to sleep
Still in the dark so deep
I will the darkness sweep
I will the moon to flight
I will the heavens bright
I will the earth to light
Open your eyes with me
See paradise with me
Wake and arise with me
(Song incomplete. Chorus and some meaningless sounds left out. Probably more, but I’m too lazy to look that up.)
If you see a sailin’ ship it might be your last
just get your civvies ready for another round ashore
a sailor ain’t a sailor ain’t a sailor anymore.
——
though my sails be torn and tattered
and my mast be turned about
let the night wind chill me to my very soul
and though the spray might sting my eyes
and the stars no light provide
give me just another morning light to hold
for I will not lie me down
this rain a-ragin’
I will not lie me down
in such a storm
and though this night be unblessed
I will not take my rest
until we reach another shore
Ahhhhh I know the first one but WHAT IS IT CALLED *headdeskheaddeskheaddesk* Now I’m going to have the “A sailor ain’t a sailor ain’t a sailor anymore” line in my head. -_-
Summer has come and past
The innocent can never last
—–
Then she says “Wait a minute…
your voice sounds so familiar – hey, is this Paul?”
And my wife is all like, “No that ain’t Paul
Now tell me, who is this Paul?
Second: “Trapped in the Drive-Thru” by Weird Al.
Piggy, I would like you to know that Sound of Silence is now running through my head, and likely will be for the next two days. Thank you so much.
There are definitely worse songs to have stuck in your head, I’d say.
True.
First one: Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day
AHA! I know it! The first one is “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Greenday. Nice choice!
I’m just putting some excerpts.
Rhymes that keep their secrets
Unfold among the clouds
And there upon a rainbow
Is the answer to a (this would give it away)
———
That joke isn’t funny anymore, no its too close to home and its too near the bone, too close to home, too near the bone……
——
More later.
Where there’s live, there’s hope
Everyday’s, a gift
Wishes can, come true
Whistle while, you work, so hard, all day to be like other girls.
To fit-in in this glittering world
———————————————-
Bunnies aren’t just cute like everybody supposes,
They’ve got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses.
And what’s with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies, bunnies,
It must be bunnies!
…Or maybe midgets.
—————————–
Is it sinful if you’re blue
To cheer up the place?
What is wrong with dressing up in satin and lace?
Get some earrings, some mascara, heels and a fan.
Pretty soon you will start to feel a different man.
What the h***s wrong with expressing yourself?
Being who you want to be?
Will anybody die if you put on a dress?
Who the hell cares if your blush is a mess?
Start a new fashion, buck all the trends.
Emphasize in-teg-rit-eeeee.
Any guesses? Please?
The first two are from the same thing, and the third one’s a Broadway musical that I saw,
GUESSES. Are they too obscure for other Musers?
1st+2nd are from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The only reason I know this is because my friend’s obsessed.
3rd: Billy Elliot. I saw it too.
“Casey kept on fighting until one-eyed Paddy Flynn
Socked him on the whiskers with a great big rolling pin
He knocked poor Casey senseless; it was an awful clout
As he lay there unconscious Casey kept on shouting out…”
The last verse of a wonderful tune, minus the chorus.
-A
Don’t know if anyone will get this…
~~~
So you think you’re a Romeo
Playing a part in a picture show
~~~
Take the long way home, take the long way home.
(I’m a huge Supertramp fan)
Obvious one:
“Well you dawned on me, you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you’re so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
Now I’m trying to get back
Before the cool done run out I’ll be giving it my bestest
And nothing’s gonna stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it’s again my turn
To win some or learn some…”
~~~
Another:
“I’m just a normal boy
That sank when I fell overboard
My ship would leave the country
But I’d rather swim ashore
Without a life vest I’d be lost again
Wish I was much more masculine
Maybe then I could learn to swim
Like *fourteen miles away* ”
Get ’em?
the first one is “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz lolll
Blue October! Blue October! I love that song! “Into the Ocean” is number 2
BLUE OCTOBER! INTO THE OCEAN!
*sees Ankher got it and deflates*
I doubt anyone will get this one:
Sing me a song of American dreams and I’ll sing you a song of fear
Send me your weak and your poor and your tired and we’ll kick ’em out of here
We’ve got no room for your huddled masses, we’ve got no help for you
Unless you’ve got money or god on your side, we will not see you through
Lady, lady with your torch held high, your flame is burning low
You said you’d harbor us safe in your arms, oh why did you let us go?
They’ve taken your name and left a hollow frame where liberty once stood
They say it’s every man for himself now, to hell with the common good
[chorus] America the beautiful, America the strong
We are the dispossessed, the long oppressed
Why do you do us wrong?
America, the land of the free, you’ve forgotten we’re your blood
But we will join together one by one until a drop becomes a flood
Who’s gonna save you now, I ask, from the shame of all your lies?
You say you speak the word of god, but it’s just hatred in disguise
We used to be a beacon of hope shining across the sea
But we shed the blood of the innocent now in the name of democracy
A nation so young, you’ve forgotten it seems you were forged in rebellion’s flame
Now we’re told to say yes, turn away, and sit down, that we all must think the same
But we will raise our voices one by one and sing out loud and clear
We are the people, we will speak our minds and we won’t be bought by fear
[last chorus] America the beautiful, do you hear our song?
We are the dispossessed, the long oppressed
Why do you do us wrong?
America, the land of the free, you’ve forgotten we’re your blood
But we’ll join together one by one until a drop becomes a flood
Here’s just a part of a song because I’m feeling lazy. (I just wrote a huge paper.)
I used to think that we lived at the top of the world
When the world was just a subway map
And the 1/9 traced a dotted line to our house
There’s no 9 train anymore
Right
I used to think that the Bronx was a place in the sky
When the world was just a subway map
Can you remind me of what it was like
At the top of the world?
Come with me.
(Yes, there are two people singing. And yes, that’s a hint.)
I doubt people will get those, though. They’re kind of obscure.
8-The Calypso song (forgot it’s name) by John Denver?
A few opening lines (slightly less obscure this time):
“Oh the shark has pearly teeth, dear, and he shows them pearly white.”
“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start.”
“I know what my people are thinking tonight, as home through the shadows they wander.”
(Yes, I have weird taste in music.)
Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne
und die trägt er im Gesicht
und Macheath, der hat ein Messer
doch das Messer sieht man nicht…
Ooooo. Ich kenne dieses Lied!
You got it, although as a jazzer, that’s not usually the language I listen to it in… (Actually, my favorite version is the one where Ella Fitzgerald forgets the words halfway through, has to impovise, and still never misses a beat.)
OH! That second one is from Sound of Music, in ‘Do Re Mi’!
You got it.
I’m not going to pretend I understand that, even though I’m fairly sure it answers number one, but anyway:
The first one is Mack the Knife! Yay jazz.
-A
1. The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I’ll drop a line
————————————————–
2. Well I’ve opened up my veins too many times
And the poison’s in my heart and in my mind
Poison’s in my bloodstream, poison’s in my pride
I’m after rebellion, I’ll settle for lies
————————————————–
3. Do your demons
Do they ever let you go
When you’ve tried do they hide deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You’re just a picture
you’re an image caught in time
We’re a lie you and I
We walk on without a ride
————————————————–
4. See the sun shine in wintertime
See snow falling in summertime
It’s all crazy like our minds
All this anger makes us blind
For all these poisons that are mine
I know I can not rewind
As I struggle to be more kind
As the train lies
And I mess around
I’m so young but not without a sound
been seen double, keeping me down
I fiddle with a thought
But not without a sound
————————————————–
5. Live another day, learn another lesson
Ain’t no need to get my mental status cold stressin
That it’s so ill that it’s fo’-real that it’s
No skill displayed, de shades gone now
So it’s time to build my own umbrella
Tell it tell her hella mellow fellows loungin
Better bread I never fled a header of the sounds and
All I wanna do is run my own universe
Grab the mic and let my spirit just FLOCK when I croon a verse
This one is probably pretty easy. It’s just a chorus, but it’s been running through my head for the past two weeks.
I don’t care what you think
As long as it’s about me.
The best of us can find happiness in misery.
Fall Out Boy. Umm… is it “I Don’t Care”? I think so. Don’t really listen to them much.
Great song: can you guess it? From near the end:
“Then Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White and
“Monty Python and the Holy Grail”‘s Black Knight and
Benito Mussolini and The Blue Meanie and
Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie
Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk, and Darth Vader
Lo Pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger
Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan,
Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan
All came out of no where lightning fast
And they kicked Chuck Norris in his cowboy a**
It was the bloodiest battle the world ever saw
With civilians looking on total awe
The fight raged on for a century
Many lives were claimed, but eventually
The champion stood, the rest saw their better:
Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater”
… cheah. Awesomeness.
I love that song. I have the whole thing memorized.
Umm… I’ll try to think of a song to post other than “The Llama Song”.
23 — Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny by Lemon Demon, not sure who wouldn’t know that.
I’m slightly surprised that Robert/Midnight Fiddler/someone else like them didn’t get my second and third songs…
Hey, I know a lot of people who don’t. But none of them are Musers. ;D
Maybe a bit obvious, I don’t know
Lights go out and i can’t be saved
Tides i tried to swim against
brought me down, upon my knees
Oh, i beg, i beg and plead, singing
come out with things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head and a,
trouble that can’t be named
A tigers waiting to be tamed, singing
You…………Are………..
I like that song.
Clocks! by Coldplay! I can play that on the piano (which isn’t saying much, it’s pretty easy).
*GASP* I love Coldplay!
*GASP* I also love Coldplay! *high five*
*GASP* (Please, no one else do that) I love Coldplay, also!
*GASP* Too bad. I love Coldplay five!!!
*GASP* We should have a Coldplay thread! I can see it now…
“*GASP* I love Coldplay!”
“*GASP* Me too!”
“*GASP* I love the song X&Y!”
“*GASP* Me too!”
“*GASP*”
“*GASP* What?”
“*GASP* Coldplay is amazing!!!!”
“*GASP* YES! HIGH FIVE!”
“*GASP* HIGH FIVE!!!”
That’d be a wonderful thread….
Obscure song… don’t expect anyone to get it unless you google it.
I’ve liked you for a tousand years, a thousand years.
I’ve like you for a thousand years, a thousand years.
You can’t stand to see me that way
No matter what I do, no matter what I say.
hint: Canadian indie band that broke up in 2000.
A completely silly one:
“Where do you grow?
I grow on your face
Where do you grow?
I grow on your face
Where do you grow?
I grow on your face”
“And when you bury me, add three feet to it
One for your sorrow, two for your sweat
Three for the strange things we never forget
And long after we’re gone
The light will stay on
The light will stay on.”
“I gotta get back to Hogwarts!
I gotta get back to school!
I gotta get myself to Hogwarts!
Where everyone thinks I’m cool!
Back to witches and wizards and magical beasts,
to goblins an ghosts and to magical feasts!”
*Hint hint*
It’s from a musical.
That would be “Gotta Get Back to Hogwarts” from “A Very Potter Musical.”
1. And off in the distance/ Her orders were heard/ And the soldier was killed, still waiting for her word/ And while the queen went on strangling in the solitude she deserved/ The battle-continued on…..
_______________________
2. Turn around/ Look at what you see/ In her face-the mirror of your dreams~
______________________
3. You can only say yes now/ To the street to the sky to the night/ You can only say yes now/ To the street to the sky to the night~
_______________________________
4. From the heighest of heights/ To the depths of the sea/ all Creation proof of Your majesty/ From the colours of fall/ To the fragrance of Spring/ Every creature unique in the song that it sings/ All exclaiming- (this would give it away, sorry)
I’m way out of the fashion in music, I guess. Anybody know any of these songs, or am I so out of date?
Ohhhh. Wait. Is number two the Neverending Story theme song? I hate that movie, but I used to love it….
Um. Umumum. I know the fourth one. Really. *Googles* Oh… maybe I didn’t know that… oh well. *does not guess*
Yes, it’s the neverendingstory song! I don’t like the movie that much but I love the song. And the book.
I love the book, but the movie sucks.
Yes, the movie is nothing like the book. (I mean, seriously! Eggs that hatch into killer wind-up toys or whatever they are? I got the DVDs for my b-day last year…)
No. 1: I have that album on vinyl. “And her face was a child’s, and he thought she would cry / But she closed herself up like a fan.”
Yesss! You got it! Number three is by the same artist.
The sun, it was gold, though the sky it was grey/ and she wanted more than she ever could say/ but she knew how it frightened her, so she turned away/ and did not look at his face again.
I really like that song..
“The sky is full of dreams
But you don’t know how to fly…
I don’t have a simple answer,
But I know that I can answer…”
(Just a part of the song, but it’s my favorite part… Guesses?)
A hardish one:
“When was young I thought the stars
Were made for wishing on
And every hole inside a tree must hide a LEPrecon leprechaun,
Old houses all had secret rooms, if one could find the door.
But who believes in magic anymore?”
That’s a GS song? Did you learn that at our semi-Kokon?
Yup.
I wonder if you can guess this one without Google…
‘Cause its 0 to 60 in 3.5
Baby, you got the keys
Now shut and and drive, drive, drive
Shut up and drive, drive, drive
Not that it’s particularly obscure, but I’ll post it anyway.
Rihanna, Shut up and drive. The first time I heard the song was cover from an austrian teen band who’s accents made it sound like shut up and die. It still sounds like shut up and die when I`m mad…
Yes.
“Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favourite tune
Tomorrow never knows what it doesn’t
Know too soon”
Very, very, very famous band from Manchester.
Keelhaul that filthy lad
and we’ll send him down to the depths below.
We’ll make that bastard walk the plank
with a bottle of rum and a yo ho ho!
I thought it appropriate for today.
Well, noone got it on TLaPD. There goes the awesome prize.
That song was Keelhauled by Alestorm. Their genre is “True Scottish Pirate Metal”. Really good stuff, I recommend that everyone check them out.
I don’t know how to comment on other people’s posts…
but….Rainbow the song is called MAGIC!!!!!! I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!!! I am an avid GS camper and you are the only other person I have met who knows the song.
Okay my turn….
This appeared as a moral dilemma
Cause at first it was weird though I swore to eliminate
The worst of the plague that devoured humanity
It’s true I was vague on the ‘How’
so how can it be that you have shown me the light?
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog — Brand New Day.
AH! Dr. Horrible! AH! Brilliance! Okay, freakout done.
“Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain.
Why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain.
Why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain.
Why is he climbing a mountain?
Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain.
Why is he climbing a mountain?
To hug the mountain,
To envelop that mountain.
Hug the mountain,
To envelop that mountain.
Hug the mountain,
That mountain, that mountain.
He wants to make love to the mountain.”
@15 – Nobody’s got it. I’ll continue…
“I had a hat when I came in – I hung it on the rack.
And I’ll have a hat when I go out, or I’ll break somebody’s back.
I’m a decent man, I am, I am, and I don’t want to shout.
I had a hat when I came in – I’ll have a hat when I go out!”
Does that make it a bit easier?
-A
38: The Hat Song?????
Guess this. (in cool techno voice)
Work it harder
Make it better
Do it faster
Makes us stronger
More than ever
Hour after our
Work is never over
(repeats in cooler techno beats)
Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger: Daft Punk. *watches too many AMVs*
Mostly known as “Stronger” by Kanye West….
Wrong. And you can tell this is a sore spot with me.
Daft Punk’s ORIGINAL is so much better than Kanye’s BORROWED SUCCESS.
Grr.
-A
I agree completely with Gradster.
Although, technically, Thanks For All the Fish knew it and was commenting on the borrowed success of Mr. “I’ma let you finish”.
Can’t complain, though. “Stronger” introduced me to Daft Punk, and I have used Mr. West’s background in one of my creations, so whatever.
Close…
-A
“And they wither with the wind
And the crumble in your hands
I threw a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripples run away
And they never made a sound”…
(The next line gives the song away)
“Hello, hello, hello, hello.
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.
That’s all there is…”
Whenever I hear that song, I immediately picture my old bedroom from high-school years. I’m sprawled on the floor by the bed, trying to write or trying not to study. Lancelot, our cat, is looking out the window.
I’ve had that song stuck in my head for eternity.
Leaves that are Green – Simon and Garfunkel
Correct!
43.1.The Crazy Greeting Song
Please guess the song that is already said before saying your song.
Do you mean 40.1? If you do, it’s part of the same song I posted.
I think at this point, people are free to post new songs. My first one remains unanswered (not surprisingly, I didn’t expect it to be answered, but still) after all these other people.
“High rise, veins of the avenue
Bright eyes and subtle variations of blue
Everywhere is balance there
like the rainbow above you.
Street lights glisten on the boulevards
and cold nights make staying alert so hard
For heaven’s sake, keep me awake
so I won’t be caught off guard”
“It was one hundred degrees
as we sat beneath a willow tree
Whose tears didn’t care
They just hung in the air
And refused to fall, to fall”
OWL CITY! OWL CITY! THE FIRST TWO STANZAS ARE OWL CITY! You’re my favorite person of the day!
The song is “Rainbow Veins”. I love all of his stuff, but that album is the best one. I don’t really like Ocean Eyes as much–feels like he nearly sold out. But yeah. Favorite person of the day.
Did you know him before Ocean Eyes/Fireflies?
No. Fireflies is my god.
-A
Go back and listen to his earlier stuff! It’s just as good! Although, Fireflies is also my favorite. It just reached the radio here (Owl City’s home state. Sad.), and I was happy. Usually I’m not, but hey, he deserves it.
“I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own”
I love this song…..
It’s that one song that was disproportionately popular for a bit. “Viva la Vida”? Was that what it was called? Rather a boring song, in my opinion. The same four chords over and over and over….
Yes. I agree, but still, great lyrics….
Sadly, most pop music is all four chords over and over. Usually the same four chords, almost always in the same order. Curse you, Pachelbel.
My favorite bit:
“I used to roll the dice
See the fear in my enemies eyes.
Listen as the crowd would sing
The old king is dead! Long live the king
One minute I had it all
Then the walls were closed on me.
I discovered that my castle stands
On pillars of salt, pillars of sand.”
It has references to the medieval ages in it. My History teacher played it for us on the first day.
Medieval? I thought it was supposed to be about the French Revolution.
I think it’s both. Pillars of salt is (according to my history teacher) a Biblical reference. “Head On a Silver plate” is both, as well.
Yes, pillars of salt is a Biblical reference. No, I’m not Christian. I just know a lot of Bible stories, they’re pretty cool reading. I own a Bible!
Fleeing Sodom & Gomorrah. Particularly nasty example of judgmental viciousness.
Not really. Not going to argue, but they were told very specifically “don’t look back”.
And that merits being turned into a pillar of salt? Besides, I was referring the entire story, not just the pillar example. If you want to answer me, take it to “Grander Scheme of Things”.
43.1 — Dude, it’s Coldplay. Everyone has to like everything of theirs.
So this thread has gotten out of control, and I do take partial responsibility. (Not waiting until the previous song was guessed.) May I suggest that we start saying that noone’s allowed to post new lyrics without the one before them being guessed, or a 3-day limit being up? Then, after the 3 days, people would go back and write down the answers for their songs, providing they weren’t guessed. I think it’d work better. I’m going to go answer mine now, because at this point nobody’s going to try.
That might drag things out too long, but perhaps it would be a good idea to make a guess on one of the other songs before posting a new one? I don’t know if that would be helpful. Just a thought.
44:I stand with Glassboro. I apologize for saying that we shouldn’t do this after I had just done it myself.
A new song (which I love);
My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can’t afford his gas
So I’m stuck here watching TV
I don’t have digital
I don’t have diddly squat
It’s not having what you want
It’s wanting what you’ve got
39.1.1- I love that song *goes running with it*
Soak up the Sun? I think that’s the title. I know the song, but I don’t know who it’s by.
‘Fires are burning in the mountain,
Mother, I fain go to.
Let me seek a brave companion,
Mother, I beg of you.’
‘Daughter, daughter, seek your father,
He’ll guide you on your way.’
‘Whether false or whether trusty,
By him I will not stay.’
I will be a brave companion
I will be a brave companion.
‘Daughter, daughter, seek your brother,
He’ll guide you on your way.’
‘Whether false or whether trusty,
By him I will not stay.’
‘Daughter, daughter, seek your true love,
He’ll guide you on your way.’
‘Yes, he’s brave and true and trusty,
By him I’ll surely stay.’
I will be a brave companion.
I will be a brave companion.
I love this song in part simply because I don’t get it. I’m sure there’s story behind it, but it doesn’t make much sense.
On second thought, perhaps I have mistaken the purpose of this thread. I’m pretty sure I just gave away the title. So never mind.
An important thing is to post songs that people should be able to get, not obscure internet memes or whatnot just for the heck of it. I still can’t believe no one got mine, the hint was a dead giveaway. Oasis, anyone?? What’s The Story, Morning Glory? Geez.
Why? Why can’t “obscure internet memes” be posted here? “Normal” music could be even more obscure. And doesn’t this thread–and perhaps even all MuseBlog–exist “just for the heck of it”?
The music that I listen to is apparently quite obscure. Or perhaps…*shuts self up* You don’t really want to know what I was thinking. It was morbid. (lets just say it had something to do with Mr Joe and a couple of HPBs, shall we?)
If it’s a game the point should be to post songs that other people can actually guess, and not show off the obscure stuff you know. I could post troll bands from Norway who go around chanting in forests and whatnot that you’ve never even heard of, but the point is to enable people to guess. Hence my choice of something as popular as Oasis, but not as obvious as a line from Wonderwall.
Yes, but what is obvious to one person may be obscure to another. For instance, I’m not sure if I’ve heard of Oasis (much less know the lyrics to their songs), so that’s obscure to me. And you most likely don’t know who Bacilos are, while they are rather well-known to me. Obscurity is entirely relative.
No, it isn’t. An obscure band is one unknown to the majority of people, for a variety of reasons. They might not have good label backing, they might just not be popular, whatever. Obscurity is measured on a global scale. And more people know Oasis than the Bacilos.
More people know Oasis than Bacilos? Try telling that to someone in eastern Mexico. Or Miami. Or Puerto Rico. Many of them have probably never heard of Oasis while they have heard Bacilos rather often. By your points that obscurity means that A. less than half of people know the band, and B. that it is measured on a global scale, then I don’t know of any non-obscure bands.
Besides, this is just a game, Fridgey. Chill. It’s for fun, remember?
Compare record sales. Oasis are a worldwide hit, they launched an entire genre, and just because some locals in Eastern Mexico, Miami and Puerto Rico have a crush for a Latin band doesn’t change the nature of “obscurity”.
Yes, it’s a game. Games need some sort of structure or they don’t work.
Look, I’ve never heard of Oasis, so they are obscure to me. You’ve not heard of Bacilos, so they’re obscure to you. In the end, it doesn’t matter. It’s a game. We have a basic structure–post some lyrics, see if people can guess what song it is. If they can, great. If they can’t, we move on.
As for “worldwide hit”, I could use Namie Amuro, or Ayumi Hamasaki, or Café Tacuba, or a dozen other groups that are loved in numerous countries, but they still may be “obscure”. As I’ve said, obscurity is relative. Let’s just play the game.
I’m sure people in Tibet don’t know who Miley Cyrus is (Or whatever she’s calling herself now.). Really, it’s all relative. That’s why I gave up on the concept of place loong ago. It’s either “here” or “not here”. After all, if you’re facing opposite ways, right=left. I haven’t heard of either Oasis or Bacilos. And I’m sure most of you haven’t heard of Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty. You’ve probably heard some of their music, but you probably haven’t heard of them.
now you’ve upset me. Obscurity is NOT relative. An obscure band is one limited to a few local markets without international coverage and promotion. You don’t measure obscurity by your own knowledge, because you can purposefully focus on listening to only obscure music (like I do to a certain extent with Metal). Just because I know a band like, say, Thrice, doesn’t mean that it isn’t obscure, and just because I’ve never heard of, say, Dokken doesn’t mean that they’re obscure, because Dokken are a stronger globalizing force in the international music business.
In addition, taking grotty little out of the way countries like Tibet as an example of “oh look, these people don’t know the chart toppers of the 90s, so obscurity is relative” is an ad hoc exception, and a pretty big fallacy.
As far as those who claim not to know Oasis… Youtube “Wonderwall”, I’m sure you’ve heard it somewhere. That single was the biggest hit in the 90s.
So you’re saying that, as long as a band is known in more than one country, it’s instantly not obscure? Obscurity varies from place to place. A famous band in, say, France would be very obscure in the US, and the most popular band in Japan would be almost completely unknown in Germany. For instance, Namie Amuro was, at the highest point in her career, known as the Teen Queen of Japan, and Hamasaki is known as the Empress of Pop. But outside of Japan, they’re obscure. Oh, and I listened to “Wonderwall”. Never heard it in my life. Sorry.
No, I’m saying that obscurity is not measured by the individual’s tastes and awareness. You’re changing your argument now. Of course bands can be “big in Europe” or whatever. That’s why the countries differentiate between national charts and international charts. The music market is different for the two levels. However, it doesn’t count as “obscure” outside just because it’s local. It counts as “unknown”. Obscurity is a different concept.
I know you two like to argue, but this debate is irrelevant to this thread. Obscurity, however defined, is permitted here; see Comment 57. You’ve already reached the limit of our comment-nesting feature. Let it go, please.
Move the comments to “Grander Scheme of Things”?
I have never, ever, heard of Oasis. Just pointing out that it may be well known, but people (such as myself) have never heard of it.
To be fair, I’ve never heard of Bacilos, either.
As for obscurity? Chill. It doesn’t matter whether a song somebody posts is really, really, really well known, or if it is “obscure”. Honestly, I could see how it being obscure would make it lots more fun. If it’s too well known, there’s not a whole heck of a lot of difficulty in guessing a song, is there?
Now, if you all don’t mind, I am removing myself from this argument, before I say something I regret, as I am in a *very* bad mood right this moment. [read: approaching a homicidal rage directed at my roommate]
Ehm. I concede guilt here. I have posted NORMAL music. Well, not internet memey music, but it was most definitely obscure. What if you agree that by posting really obscure music, you forfeit your right to an answer? i.e. if you song is too hard, people can move on?
Born a poor young country boy–Mother Nature’s son
All day long I’m sitting singing songs for everyone.
Sit beside a mountain stream–see her waters rise
Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies.
Find me in my field of grass–Mother Nature’s son
Swaying daises sing a lazy song beneath the sun.
How pretty. It shouldn’t be too hard.
That’s the song I’ve had stuck in my head all day!!
“Mother Nature’s Son”. The Beatles. My favorite ever.
Really? That’s weird. I listened to it about five times in a row this afternoon, and now it’s driving me crazy. But I do like the song.
Mother Nature’s Son. I love that song!
I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what’s best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes
I want a girl with the right allocations
Who’s fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She’s playing with her jewelry
She’s putting up her hair
She’s touring the facility
And picking up slack
[chorus that would give it away]
I want a girl who gets up early
I want a girl who stays up late
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity
Who used a machette to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
Anybody guess this? I bet it’s not too hard. (And no, that’s not all of the song).
Alice- I don’t know that song, but I’d guess it’s called “Brave Companion” or “I will be a brave companion” or something of the likes?
I know this one. I’m shocked. (Gradster, this is totally because of you. ) Short Skirt, Long Jacket.
I told you about it – BECAUSE OF THIS, no less – about ten minutes before you answered. Doesn’t count. XD
-A
XD Yes, I know. But nobody said that you couldn’t name a song which you’d just listened to for the first time ten minutes ago… You got it, anyway. Doesn’t really matter.
I am he as you are he and we are all together.
See how they run likes pigs form a gun; see how they fly
I’m cryin’
Sittin’ on a cornflake, waithing for the van to come.
Copporation T-shirt,
Stupid bloody Tuesday,
Man, you’ve been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggman.
Goo g’joob! Goo goo, g’joob!
Onw of my favorites. I’ve memorized almost every word of the ******* songs, because I have a ******* guitar book.
((Note: ******* equals group name.
I am the Walrus – The Beatles
That’s… Cake. I forget which. Jacket-Girl. Girl With A Long Jacket. Something like that.
“The night you came into my life
Well it took the bones of me, took the bones of me
You blew away my storm and strife
And shook the bones of me, shook the bones of me
By the way, I do know why you stayed away
I will keep tongue-tied next time…”
My favourite song.
-A
Looked it up so I could listen to it (I remembered I liked it – thanks for reminding me!). It’s ‘Short Skirt, Long Jacket’ by Cake.
-A
Cake. (XD-that was a partial pun. Maybe.)
Haha! I thought so too.
Boys and girls in cars
Dogs and birds on lawns
From here I can touch the sun
Yeah yeah
Put your jackets on
I feel we’re being born
The Tropic of Capricorn is below
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
We stall above the pole
Still your face is young
As we feel our weight return
Yeah yeah
A trail of shooting stars
The horses call of storm
Because the air contains the charge
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The radio is on
And Houston knows the score
Can you feel it?
We’re almost home
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The crew compartment’s breaking up
The crew compartment’s breaking up
Umm… My turn again!
Okay, since someone’s already posted an Owl City song, I shall not, but I shall post several other songs.
#1 – these are the only words in this song. The title is in the words, but that’s not important.
I’ve been rapping for about seventeen years, okay? I don’t write my stuff anymore, I just kick it from my head (you know what I’m saying?) I can do that. No disrespect, but that’s how I am.
#2 – Obscure, kind of, but it was free on iTunes a long time ago, if anyone keeps up with that.
I know you sat alone
So many nights, waiting for me.
Cold, your face like a stone,
I hang up the phone
When we disagree.
…
Shiny and black
Like shoes on a rack
With a trigger that’s
Dressed up in gold.
It’s always warm
Inside my home
But its handle
Is always so cold.
#3 – this is an indie band, but they were fairly big.
You didn’t like the business,
But there was that first glance.
Your pillow feels so soft now,
But still you must advance.
This pinstriped man of morning;
The partners in the dance;
The papers shot to pieces;
The kids don’t stand a chance.
#4 – She’s just awesome. Last one, I promise.
Some said the local lake had been enchanted
Others said that it must have been the weather
The neighbors were trying to keep it quiet
But I swear that I could hear the laughter
So they joked and called it The Porridge
‘Cause of a night that lake had turned as thick as butter
But the local kids would still go swimming
Drinking
Saying that to them it doesn’t matter
If you just hold in your breath
Till you come back up in full
Hold in your breath
Until you started to you fool
The genius next door was busing tables
Wiping clean the ketchup bottle lables
Getting high and mumbling German fables
Didn’t care as long as he was able.
To strip his clothes off by the dumpster
At night while everyone was sleeping
And wade midway into that porridge
Just him and his secret he was keeping
If you just hold in your breath
Till you come back up in full
Hold in your breath
Till you started to you foolish child
It continues, but I really just wanted the second verse, with the first as context. Anyways. Go for it. I hope someone knows at least one song, but people are free to continue.
#1: JK-52?
gradster- I love Cake. Right now my status is “HE IS GOING THE DISTANCE!”
So… Another one.
This one should be very obvious, it even has the title in the lyrics case you don’t know.
Ground control to Major Tom Ground control to Major Tom:
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on
Ground control to Major Tom: Commencing countdown engine’s on
Check ignition and may God’s love be with you
This is ground control to Major Tom, you’ve really made the grade!
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear,
Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare
This is Major Tom to ground control, I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating in the most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do
All right, actually, no naming unless you actually would know this song anyway, it’s too obvious otherwise.
AWESOMEE!!! *squees* I love David Bowie!
“Tell my wife I love her very much-she knows
For here I am sitting in a tin can, far from the world
planet Earth is blue, and there’s nothing I can do…”
“But I think the spaceship knows which way to go~”
“Can you hear me Major Tom?
Can you hear me Major Tom?
Can you- Here I am sitting in a tin can far from teh world….”
How ’bout this one?
“My mama said, to get things done, you better not mess with Major Tom.”
First time I heard that song it gave me chills, thinking of Major Tom floating away. It still fills my mind with a phosphorescent green glow in the black night.
(In reply to your other quotation: “I’m happy, hope you’re happy, too.”)
yeah.
Funnily enough, after I posted this, I watched the Flight of the Conchords episode where Bret gets advice from David Bowie.
Have any of you heard the “sequel” cover by Shiny Toy Guns? Gives me the chills as well as the original.
Yes, thinking about Major Tom floating away scares me, too.
I’m pretty sure I commented “Space Oddity – David Bowie”. Must have gotten lost between page refreshes. Ah well.
How’s this one:
“I am not an angry girl
but it seems I’ve got everyone fooled
Every time I say something they find hard to hear
They chalk it up to my anger and
Never to their own fear and imagine you’re a girl
Just tryin’ to finally come clean
Knowing full well they prefer you were dirty
and smiling, and I am sorry
I am not a maiden fair
And I am not a kitten
Stuck up in a tree somewhere”
(48, whole shebang). Caramba, what a fracas. Let’s be practical. People “playing” this “game” can’t referee it. Ergo, the obvious choice for referees is Administrators — and we don’t have time. Therefore, this GAPA hereby lays down the law:
“Do what thou wilt” shall be the whole of the law.
Play by any rules you like. Play with people whose rules you like. And may the best ethos win.
Gracias, señor.
Merci, le Gappa.
Aleister Crowley – “Liber Al Vel Legis”
Does Crowley count as obscure? I guess a separate case should be made for esoterica, hm.
Pretty obvious song (hopefully):
“Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.
Open your eyes.
Look up to the skies, and see.
I’m just a poor boy. I need no sympathy,
because of easy come, easy go.
Little high, little low.
Any way the wind blows,
doesn’t really matter to me.”
Bohemian Rhapsody, yes? That song, apparently, has around a hundred+ overdubs (which means that they recorded about 100+ separate parts) in the mini-opera bit.
Yes. One of my friends’ dad has a band, and they do an excellent version with about 19 people and no tapes.
The Chamber Choir at school sang that! Every time I hear it or see the lyrics I’m surprised.
Oh man, I want to be part of your Choir.
A couple years ago, the All City Chorus did a Tribute to Queen that had parts of Another One Bites the Dust, We Are the Champions, and Bohemian Rhapsody in it.
I’m reposting lyrics that nobody bothered to guess.
——————————————-
Where there’s life
There’s hope
Everyday’s
A gift
Wishes can
Come true
Whistle while
You work
So hard, all day
To be like other girls
To fit in in this glittering world
Bunnies aren’t just cute like everybody supposes,
They’ve got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses
And what’s with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies,
Bunnies,
It must be bunnies!
…Or maybe midgets
—————————–
Is it sinful if you’re blue
To cheer up the place?
What is wrong with dressing up in satin and lace?
Get some earrings, some mascara, heels and a fan
Pretty soon you will start to feel a different man
What the h***s wrong with expressing yourself?
Being who you want to be?
Will anybody die if you put on a dress?
Who the h*** cares if your blush is a mess?
Start a new fashion, buck all the trends
Emphasize in-teg-rit-eeeee
…You all hate me, don’t you? I posted the second one on MB before.
More likely no one knows the songs. Try something a little more mainstream.
I’ve had only one guess, and that was on one that I didn’t know. We’re just too indie.
Sorry. I don’t listen to current music, and I’ve been able to guess a grand total of one song on here.
I’m fairly sure Spelluna (or at least the speller half) can guess the second one. I don’t know the name, but I’ve heard it from my obsessed friend.
SR’s right…..Spelluna would indeed know the second one. It’s the bunny song Anya sings in Once More With Feeling, the musical eppie in Season 5 Buffy. Haven’t a clue what it’s called, though. speller would know.
It’s the Bunnies segment of I’ve Got a Theory… “I’ve got a theory that it’s a demon. A dancing demon. No, something isn’t right there.” *has that entire song memorized*
And you all think I’m a hopeless fangirl…..
Well, if your friends were singing it in physics class, you would know it too… “There’s nothing we can’t face… Except for bunnies.” (Also, it’s season 6, not season 5.) Of course, that doesn’t explain why I know the lyrics to all the rest of the songs from that episode… *has a very good memory for song lyrics*
Six? Really? Dang….I am so confused, apparently.
Uh, yeah… Because it involves a lot of the season 6 plotlines… Such as, uh, lemme see how I can not spoil stuff… Uh, Buffy’s views about what life and death is have changed and her friends find out about it, and the way Dawn gets the necklace that invokes Sweet…
There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s goin’ down…
It’s about the ani-war protest in the 1970s at Kent University in Ohio, where four college students ended up being murdered with guns by policemen.
Not Kent State; the song was a hit in 1967, three years before that happened. It must have been an earlier protest. (Another minor correction: The Kent State shootings were by National Guard troops, not by police. Some of them later said that they had been trying to aim over the heads of the crowd.)
“For What It’s Worth”, by Buffalo Springfield.
Everybody’s druuuunk
Everybody’s drunk tonight
Everybody’s druuuunk
Everybody’s drunk tonight!
And if you’re coming here…
Don’t forget to have
Yourself a beer!
There’s two girls
Throwin’ up in the bathroom
A good friend holds your head back
When you puke
Tonight’s the night
So grab your whatever
Lift your something
Here’s a toast to you!
WE’RE ALL GONNA GET DRUNK!
OH! WE’RE ALL GONNA GET DRUNK!
OH WAIT WE’RE ALREADY…
DRUUUUUNK!
I’m sure that the name of the song is pretty obvious, and I’d not be too surprised if anyone knew the band. Fun song, though. The bit in caps is sung to the tune of the chorus of Twisted Sister’s We’re Not Gonna Take It.
oh man seeing that in the recent comments bar threw me for a loop!
I a guessing it is called………….everybody’s drunk?
Yes. But it’s the artist that I’m interested in.
Easy one:
“A dustland fairytale beginning
with just another white trash county kiss
in ’61, long brown hair, and foolish eyes
And he looked just like you’d want him to,
Some kind of slick chrome American prince
Blue jean serenade, moon river, what you’ve done to me
Saw Cinderella in a party dress
But she was looking for a nightgown
I saw the Devil wrap around his chest
He’s getting ready for a showdown”
“Every river searches for the sea
Every life runs it’s own destiny
Canyons wide and wild, stretches calm and mild
Cutting through the stones of history…”
Umm… This reminds me of “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin, but it doesn’t seem like the lyrics I remember, so I don’t think that’s it.
No, it’s not.
Thought I’d give it a shot anyways
Rivers belong where they can ramble,
Eagles belong where they can fly… Our school’s doing that musical this year. I didn’t get in, but that’s okay… crappy casting.
Next verse:
“Rio Grande runs south to Mexico
From the highway I have touched it’s shores
Renosa to Santa Fe, and back the other way
I’ve had my life planned by the Rio Grande”
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasure moments hung before the takeover
The sweeping insensitivity of this still life
[Title of Song]
Trains and sewing machines
(Oh, you won’t catch me ’round here)
Blood and tears (Oh)
They were here first.
If anyone mentions the derivative, talentless rip-off that used part of this song and liking it, pies will fly.
Whatch’a sa-a-ay?
that you only meant well, well of course you did
whatch’a sa-a-ay,
that it’s all for the best, of course it is
whatch’a sa-a-ay
that it’s just what we need, you’ve decided this
whatch’a sa-a-ay
that its all for the best?
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. *basks in awesomeness of song*
I hate you, talentless rip-off artist!! X(
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace
Hint: You might not know the song’s name, but you probably know the movie that it was the theme song of.
The Beginning Is The End Is the Beginning. I love Smashing Pumpkins.
One of my favorite songs by…them:
Wednesday morning at five o’clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hope would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free
She (We gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
Home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She’s leaving home after living alone for so many years. Bye, bye
Father snores as his wife gets into the dressing gown
Picks up the leter that’s lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy, our baby’s gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me
She (We never thought of ourselves)
is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She’s leaving home after living alone for so many years. Bye, bye
Friday morning at nine o’clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from a motor trade
She (What did we do that was wrong)
Is having (We didn’t know it was wrong)
Fun (Fun is the one thing that money can’t buy)
Something inside that was always denied for so many years
She’s leaving home, bye, bye.
One of my classes in high school created a video for that song.
I know this song… I can hear it… I know who it’s by… But I DON”T KNOW IT”S NAME!
It’s She’s Leaving Home by the Beatles. Finally, someone posts a song I know.
An easier one from me, but not the whole song:
The air is charged
A humid, motionless mass
The crowds and the cameras,
The cars full of spectators pass
Excitement so thick you could cut it with a knife
Technology…high, on the leading edge of life
The earth beneath us starts to tremble
With the spreading of a low black cloud
A thunderous roar shakes the air
Like the whole world exploding
Since no one figured out my last one, I’ll put two more lines:
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
Something completely different:
If you say I aim too high from down below
Well say it now ’cause when I’m gone
You’ll be calling but I won’t be at the phone.
A band that had a hit on mainstream radio:
I never want to be part of the herd
I guess that was in case you hadn’t heard
Maybe you can tell that I can’t stand
The way I want to be the included
I always wanna be a mystery
I always knew that two and two made three
I wish away the time I’m living in
I never want to see that smile again.
Not a hit by a band that recently sold out:
I got you runaway smile in my piggy bank, baby
Gonna cash it right in for a new Mercedes
You were worth a hundred thousand miles
But you couldn’t stay a while.
I hope someone knows this.
“We met as soul mates on Parris Island,
We left as inmates from an asylum,
And we were sharp, as sharp as knives,
And we were so gung ho to lay down our lives…”
Does anyone know what album this song is from? I need to know.
If the rain comes
they run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes
If the rain comes
When the sun shines
they slip into the shade
and sip their lemonade
When the sun shines
When the sun shines
Rain, I don’t mind
Shine, the weather’s fine
I can show you
that when it starts to rain
everything’s the same
I can show you
I can show you
Rain, I don’t mind
Shine, the weather’s fine
Can you hear me
that when it rains and shines
it’s just a state of mind
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
A simple Google search gives the answer, but I’ll leave it for a *****-nerd to figure out. I’m sure someone will know the trivia.
Yes, I have found it, too. Interesting. I wonder why no one besides you has replied. Dare I say this thread is dying?
You dare. I think it is also. It doesn’t help that we spent/d a lot of the time posting songs too hard to guess and then not attempting/not being able to attempt others’ songs.
This band is a recent discovery (even though they’re old), and a new favorite. Some of their songs are probably a bit too mature (read: language) for the younger musers, though, so google at your own risk..
I’ll take one, one, one ’cause you left me and
two, two, two for my family and
three, three, three for my heartache and
four, four, four for my headaches and
five, five, five for my lonely and
six, six, six for my sorrow and
seven, seven n-n-n-n-n-no tomorrow and
eight, eight, I forget what eight was for but
nine, nine, nine for a lost god and
ten, ten, ten, ten for EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING
anyone know this?
Kiss Off, by Violent Femmes.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin’.
Boy, that song has been popping up in my life a lot recently.
Bob Dylan – The Times, They Are A-Changin’
72- I don’t know what that song is, but it reminds me of a Sandman quote–
“One for sorrow, two for sorrow, three for sorrow, four for for for I don’t know but I’m all bored of sorrow, five for three two one, six for gold, seven for a magpie who tells me where to go…”
And also the one for sorrow/two for joy (or one for sadness/two for mirth, depending on your version).
I like the lyrics though, so off to google.
So the years rolled by, and several died
And left us somewhat reelin’
Johnny strummed his Tommy gun
Left blastin’ through the ceiling
So what became of rebels
Who sang for you and me?
There’s a little black spot on the sun today
It’s the same old thing as yesterday
There’s a black hat caught in a high treetop
There’s a flag pole rag and the wind won’t stop
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running round my brain
I guess I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign
But it’s my destiny to be the [————]
Still I sing, bonny boys
bonny mad boys
Bedlam boys are bonny
for they all go bare
and they live by the air
and they want no drink nor money
Folk song, I’m hoping that someone will know it. I have no problem with GAPAs guessing.
That’s Mad Magdalen’s (Maudlin’s) search for Tom o’ Bedlam.
To find my Tom o’ Bedlam, ten thousand years I travel.
Mad Maudlin goes on dirty toes to save her shoes from gravel…
(I’ve heard slight variants, but that’s the first one I heard, and it’s still my favorite.) Such great lyrics:
A spirit hot as lightning did on that journey guide me.
The sun did shake and the pale moon quake as soon as e’er they spied me…
Midnight Fiddler must learn this song if she doesn’t know it already.
Indeed she must. …and when I try to hear it from the lyrics you posted I hear it to The Rocky Road To Dublin. What is wrong with me. -_-
My molly team does a dance to Tom of Bedlam, although I haven’t learnt it yet. Maybe this week… It looks like a lot of fun.
Here’s an easy one (I think):
Snot running down his nose, greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes- Hey, (name of song)
*knows but keeps quiet*
Oh, I have no problem with the GAPAs answering.
Aqualung. It’s a good song, but quite creepy if you think too much about the lyrics.
Oh, it’s not that creepy. Just the first little bit, right before the snippet that I posted.
Do you say it ACK-wuh-lung? That’s the way it should be said.
“Eight miles high and when you touch down
You’ll find that it’s stranger than known
Signs in the streets that say where you’re going
Are somewhere just being there own”
I think I’ll try one.
All people like you
are an embaresment to creation.
Self righteous!
Judgmental!
First to throw a stone.
Using His name
for your own protection.
And I, I know what God thinks…
Answering old posts on this thread ’cause I’m bored.
Any guesses?
“Jesus Christ Superstar”?
Hmm. Here’s one of my FAVORITE songs which I will be disappointed if no one gets ( and NO, Pseudo, it is NOT one of my stupid pop songs! )
Crashed on the floor when I moved in
This little bungalow with some strange new friends
Stayed up too late and I’m too thin
We promised each other it’s till the end
Now we’re spinning empty bottles it’s the 5 of us
With pretty-eyed boys girls die to trust
And I can’t resist the day
And I can’t resist the day
Jenny screams out and it’s no pose
Cuz when she dances she goes and goes
Beer through the nose on an inside joke
And I’m so excited I haven’t spoken and she’s so pretty and she’s so sure
Maybe I’m more clever than a girl like her
The summer is ending soon
The summer is all in bloom
It’s all right
And it’s nice not to be so alone
But I hold on to my secrets
In ( name of song )…
GUESSES PLEASE!
White Houses, Vanessa Carlton, right? That’s a good song.
Oh! I love Vanessa Carlton! This is (I am sad to report) only the third or fourth song I have known, and the only one that I know really well.
82-Heck, I don’t know, I’ll guess randomly, the evil clown song?
The only non-Beatles country song I can stand:
In the year of ’39, assembled here the Volunteers,
in the days when the lands were few.
Here the ships sail out to the blue and sunny morn,
Sweetest sight ever seen.
And the night followed day,
And the story-tellers say,
that the score brave souls inside,
For many lonely days,
Sailed across the milky sea,
Ne’er looked back, never feared, never cried.
Don’t you hear my call, though you’re many years away,
Don’t you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand, for the I’ll take your hand,
In the land that our grandchildren knew.
PSEUDO KILLED THIS THREAD!!!!!!
I just was browsing my parent’s iPod, and I found this:
I need a date to the prom,
Would you like to come along
No one else will go to the prom with me
Baby
They didn’t like American music
They’ve never heard American music
They don’t know that the music is in my soul
I’ve recently just been picking random albums, and I’ve found some interesting stuff on there, such as Coldplay and Devo.
One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I’m not turning
I’m headin for a land that’s far away beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we’ll go and see the ************************
In the *********************** there’s a land that’s fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the *************************
In the *********************** all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer’s trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I’m bound to go where there ain’t no snow
Where the rain don’t fall and the wind don’t blow
In the ****************************
In the ************************** you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There’s a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around ’em in a big canoe
In the ************************
In the ************************ the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain’t no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks
I’m a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the ***********************
I’ll see you all this coming fall in the **********************
Love this song. People should know it, too.
SFTDP, but I just realized I need to post this song because it’s awesome, and today is the perfect day to post it. (If someone guesses the song correctly, you’ll all know why.)
Slow it down some
No split clown bum
Your gold hit sound dumb
Hold it now!!! Crown ‘Em
Where you found them at?
Got ’em ’round town
Could’ve drowned in it
Woulda floated bloated
Voted sugar coated
Loaded hip shooter
Draw for the poor
Free coffee at the banks
Hit through the straw
None more for me, thanks
That blanks the raw
That dank sure stank lit
Sank passed the pit for more hardcore prank spit
Crank it on blast
Roll past front street
Blew the whole spot
Like some old ass with skunk meat
These kids is too fast
Juiced off of junk treat
Who could get looser off a crunk or a funk beat?
OH SUDO I KNOW THE FIRST SONG YOU POSTED, BEFORE THE STFTDP!!!!!!! IT’S “The Big Rock Candy Mountain,” right?
PLEASE TELL ME IT IS!!! I’LL FEEL SO PROUD IF I FINALLY GUESS A SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hysteria*
It is. I ♥ that song. “At the big rock candy mountain, you never change your socks, and the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks.”
♥♥♥
It’s like, a criminal’s paradise.
And I have realized that it would be considerably easier to guess the second song if you have the chorus, so:
Something has started today
Where did it go, while you want it to be?
Well you know November has come
When it’s gone away..
That should make it like, 5 times easier.
Still not sure what it is. You know, I only know pop music and a bunch of random Fats Domino songs…and the Beatles, of COURSE.
SFTDP. GAPAs, does it count if it’s over two days?
Crashed on the floor when I moved in
This little bungalow with some strange new friends
Stayed up too late and I’m too thin
We promised each other it’s till the end
GUESSES PLEASE!
( new avatar, appear to thee! )
( DARN! )
Here’s a lightning round:
1. We’re leaving together,
But still it’s farewell
2. They can change the locks,
Don’t let them change your mind
3. Did you think that I would cry on the phone?
Do you know what it feels like being alone?
If you get all three, I will give you 500 song points. Note: it has to be all three at once. I will not give out points if you only guess 1 or 2.
BONUS: I recently got something that has to do with all of these songs What was it?
If you answer the bonus question correctly, you get 1000 song points. So guess already!
I would guess that they have something to do with Kingdom Hearts, because you got the new one recently, I think.
Ooohh, ooh, I know!
1) Final Countdown by Europe
2) Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings (love that song)
3) Swing, Swing by the All-American Rejects (also love that song)
YES! Nice job. And Sudo, I’m not THAT obsessed with Kingdom Hearts. I’ll post some more at the bottom.
SFTDP
By the way, 500 song points for you. Can you guess the bonus question? Sudo was on the right track: it was a video game.
Rock Band or Guitar Hero?
Yes. It’s a game in one of those series, but you have to be specific.
Guitar Hero World Tour?
*has no idea because she doesn’t play video games but this seemed likely*
Whatever. Lego Rock Band. I’m about to post more from that game on the bottom…
Arrgh. It sounds so familiar…and yet, so far away…oh darn it, I’m Googling it.
So THAT’S why I seem to have heard it. My friend always posts it on her status on AIM…she likes very obscure bands, such as Escape the Fate and You Me at Six.
( Okay, not THAT obscure. )
Which one do you mean?
Random song to guess:
“The cake is on the table.
And it is awfully bright,
’cause there’s so many candles
on top.
But you are so decrepit,
your chest so tight,
when you blow them out
your lungs are gonna pop!
You cannot complain
each time you feel a pain,
though you have arthritis
and gout.
‘Cause when you start kvetching
all your teeth fall out!”
Okay, here’s one I’m not expecting anyone to guess correctly, so the GAPAs can if they think they know.
It’s a theme song by the way, and this is only part of it.
♫ I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose drinking fresh mango juice. Goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes, fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun.♫
I don’t know the name of the song, but it was the theme to the TV show “Red Dwarf.”
That was quick.
GAPAs are Ãœbergeeks.
Hey, I once watched a few episodes of that (of the first season). Didn’t it start ♫ It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmopshere…♫
Or am I mixing something up?
That’s the song.
♫All alone, more or less..♫
Lookin’ out a dirty old window,
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by (rushing by)
I sit here alone and I wonder why
Friday night and everyone’s movin’
I can feel the heat but it’s soothing, heading down
I search for the beat in this dirty town…
And if anyone gets this one without Google, I will love you forever:
Even an angel can end up falling
Don’t you cry because you’re crawling
Start again, it’s a beautiful morning
For [name of song]…
Okay, this is a super old post, but I know that one! The first one, at least. It’s Kids in America by umm…umm…yeah, that one chick.
Well the night does funny things inside a man
These old tomcat feelings you don’t understand
But if you sit down with this old clown
He’ll take that frown and break it
Before the evening’s gone away
I think we both could make it
And [title]
I’m in love
With a fairytale
Even though it hurts
‘Cause I don’t care
If I lose my mind
I’m already cursed.
The flowers you gave me are rotting and still I refuse to throw them away
(Same song, I ‘m skiping)
Things I have loved I’m allowed to keep
I’ll never know if I go to sleep
Could someone guess some of mine?
I did guess yours… see comment 91.2.
Let the world keep turning
Cause I’ll be standing still
And the earth feels closer to heaven
Just because you’re here
I’ve been chased by angels
I’ve been drunk out of my mind
And the earth feels better than heaven
Just because you’re here
This song is so beautiful. I cry every time I listen to it. It’s doubly sad, though, once you know who is singing it and who that person is singing about.
And if I said, I really knew you well
what would your answer be, If you were here today?
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Here today.
Well, knowing you, you’d probably laugh and say
that we were worlds apart. If you were here today.
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Here today.
But as for me, I still remember how it was before.
And I am holding back the tears no more.
No, no, no.
I love you.
What about the time we met?
Well, I suppose that you can say that we were playing hard to get.
Didn’t understand a thing
but we could always sing.
What about the night we cried,
Because there wasn’t any reason left to keep it all inside?
Never understood a word.
But you were always there, with a smile.
And if I say, I really loved you
and was glad you came along. If you were here today.
Ooh-ooh-ooh, For you were in my song.
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Here today.
I’m hoping someone gets this one…
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don’t care, I’m still free
You can’t take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain’t comin’ back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can’t take the sky from me
There’s no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can’t take the sky from me…
Obvious.
But always worth repeating. We could probably round up a whole MB choral group for this one. *sings along*
I’m in the midst of watching the show for the first time. SO GOOD
Yes. I’m thinking I need to watch it again.
CURSE YOU, NETWORK PEOPLE WHO CANCELED FIREFLY!
Well, not everyone knows it, although I figured quite a few MBers would.
I’ll be keeping my
Eyes wide open
I’ll be keeping my
Hopes unbroken
Oo Your love is a symphony
All around me
Running through me
Oo Your love is a melody
Underneath me
Running to me
Oo Your love is a song…
SFTDP Here’s #2:
VERSE 1:
Here
Comes the cold
Break out the winter clothes
And find a love to call your own
You
Answer you
Your cheeks are shaded pink
While the rest of you in powder blue
PRE-CHORUS:
Who knows
What will be
But I’ll make
You this guarantee
See
CHORUS
There’s no way November will see our goodbye
When it comes to December it’s obvious why
No-one wants to be alone at Christmastime
VERSE 2:
In the dark
On the phone
You tell me the names of your brothers
And your favorite colors
I’m learning you
When
It snows again
We’ll take a walk outside
And search the sky like children do
I’ll say to you
CHORUS 2
No way November will see our goodbye
When it comes to December it’s obvious why
No-one wants to be alone at Christmastime
And come January we’re frozen inside
Making new resolutions a hundred times
February won’t you be my valentine?
And we’ll both be safe ’till St. Patrick’s Day
Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stole behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve
She didn’t recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried.
We took her groceries to the checkout stand
The food was totalled up and bagged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
As the conversation dragged.
We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn’t find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car.
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how.
She said she’d married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn’t like to lie.
I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn’t sure if I saw
Doubt or gratitude.
She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly
But the traveling was hell.
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how.
We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to time
Reliving in our eloquence
Another ‘auld lang syne’…
The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away.
Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain —
Same Old Lang Syne. Try this:
She had excuses and she chose to use them
And she was the victim of unspeakable abuses
Her husband was violent, malicious and distant
Her kids now belong to ************************!!
They’ve been taken awaay! (Hey!)
They’ve been taken awaay! (Hey!)
They’ve been taken awaay! (Hey!)
Billy was the bright one
Tommy’s off his head
Mother loved them both the same, at least that’s what she said
I don’t predict the future, i don’t care about the past
Send them both to DSS, now you had your chance
The posion took your babies
The judges took your rights
You can have your children or the night!
I suppose you’ve been a victim
Though I suspect you may have lied
Have you lost all ambition why don’t you give this thing a try
If you can’t and you fail won’t be the only loser
These kids don’t stand a chance with you in their future!
This is disjointed verses from one song. I took out the clues of it, though I can post the clue-parts if needed.
I’m not even angry
I’m being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart
And killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you
Now these points of data make a beautiful line
And we’re out of beta
We’re releasing on time
So I’m GLaD. I got burned
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive
Look at me still talking
when there’s Science to do
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I’m not you
I’ve experiments to run
There is research to be done
On the people who are still alive
And believe me I am still alive
I’m doing Science and I’m still alive
I feel FANTASTIC and I’m still alive
While you’re dying I’ll be still alive
And when you’re dead I will be still alive
Still alive
Still alive
Still Alive, by GLaDos. I know it as the Portal end credits…weirdest song EVER. Cake!!
Whoops, my bad. Written and originally performed by one John Coulton.
I can’t think of any good ones so…
Did you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said “Peace could last forever”
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can’t trust freedom
When it’s not in your hands
When everybody’s fightin’
For their promised land
Guns N’Roses – Civil War
This one’s been running through my head for a while… It probably won’t be long before it’s guessed.
It’s just a snippet, since that’s the part I remember.
It is not dyyyyiing. It is not dyyyiiing…
Is it Tomorrow Never Knows, by the Beatles? John wanted 1000 chanting monks in it, but George Martin said no.
That George Martin. So unreasonable. So restricting. *shakes head at George Martin*
That reminds me, I have to email his company, which I’m not eager to do.
Um, why did you have to email George Martin’s company? Anyway, that song, which is Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles, used to be one of my favourites until I learned from where John got most of the lyrics….
Because I need an interview with an expert on my topic (the Beatles) for History Day.
Weren’t those lyrics from the Tibetan Book of the Dead or something?
No, they were from a book about LSD.
Oh. Fail.
Although according to Wikipedia, the book is called The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead . That makes sense I guess. XD
Just a note- I originally read your comment as “John wanted 1000 chanting monkeys“, which just makes George Martin that much more controlling.
Um… Probably. It’s by the Beatles, anyway. I don’t really know the name of the song, since I’ve only heard it a couple times. I’m pretty sure it was something about ‘Tomorrow’, though. So I’ll say yes.
And I think chanting monks would fit in it fairly well anyway.
Anyone who likes this band should get this one instantly, but…
If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts
Counting Crows – Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby
I’m 100% about the band, not so much about the song.
That song rocks! It’s so deep, like all their best songs are.
Hmm. *Curses networks as well, but in this case for dropping Andromeda* Only that theme doesn’t really have any lyrics… *sigh*
I wonder how many people know the name of this song…
I never loved nobody fully
always one foot on the ground
and by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind, all these voices
I hear in my mind, all these words
I hear in my mind, all this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
When it breaks my heart
Suppose I never, ever met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never, ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never, ever saw you
Suppose we never, ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs
Just to break my own fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall
Break my fall
All my friends say that of course
It’s gonna get better
Gonna get better
Better, better, better, better
Better, better, better!
I never love nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind, all these voices
I hear in my mind, all these words
I hear in my mind, all this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
The song sounds sad but it’s really beautiful-so’s the video. Sorry that this is such a long post.
Hmmmm… Does anyone know this one? Hint: “RIP”
Must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Paint by Number morning sky
Looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don’t care
‘Cause it’s all right
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
I see you’ve got your fist out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I got the gist of it
But it’s all right
Sorry that you feel that way
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining’s got a
Touch of grey
How ’bout this one (i kinda doubt it)
It’s alright forty days of rain
my skin stretched our from the growing pain
I’d be nice to have an explanation, but it’s alright
And it’s alright if you hate that way,
hate me cause I’m different,
hate me cause I’m gay
Truth of the matter come around one day so it’s alright
I look at this lifeline stretched way all across my hand
I look at the burned out empty like a plague across the land
And for everything I learn there are two I don’t understand
That’s why I’m still on a search through the weather strewn church
I’m doing the best I can
and it’s alright
And it’s alright though we worry and fuss,
we can’t get over the hump or get over us
It seems easier to push than to let go and trust but it’s alright
When we get a little distance some things get clearer
Give em the space our hearts grow nearer
I ran as hard as I could and still ended up here but it’s alright
I look at this lifeline stretched way all across my hand
I look at the fires of hatred burning up the bounty of this beautiful land
I know I’m small in a way but I know I’m strong
And it’s my thirst that brought me to the water when I give it all up then she carries me on and it’s alright
Yeah it’s alright
And it’s alright though I feel afraid my plans in pieces my plans mislaid It’s the will of the way the will of the way the will of the only way that could have brought me here today and it’s alright.
Try this one.
“What did I ever do to you,
That you should treat me this way?
Is it really such a crime,
For an angel to speak his mind?
In time I’ll try to shed some light.
If I
Were a big boy,
I wouldn’t cry-y-y-y-y.
But since I’m not a big boy
I’ll have to cry.
What did I ever do so wrong,
That you should cast me from grace?
Though I love to rule in Hell
Here
How I miss the taste of Heaven,
Its soft and cool embrace.
If I
Were a big boy
I wouldn’t cry-y-y-y-y.
But since I’m not a big boy,
I’ll have to
Close my eyes and picture what it’s like.
I’m just like You,
Made by He,
Despised by They,
I’m almost me.”
A bit late, but still. It’s “Almost Human”, by Voltaire, AKA my most recent musical obsession.
Here is one:
“You´re better then the best
I´m lucky just to linger in your life
Cooler then the flip side of my pillow that´s right
Completely unaware
Nothing can compare to where you send me
Lets me know that it´s ok yeah it´s ok
And the moments where my good times start to fade
You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Ohh you make me smile
Even when you´re gone
Somehow you come along
Just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack and just like that
You steal away the rain and just like that
You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed sing like bird
Dizzy in my head spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Ohh you make me smile
Don´t know how I lived without you
Cuz everytime that I get around you
I see the best of me inside your eyes
You make me smile
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed sing like bird
Dizzy in my head spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Ohh you make me smile
Ohh you make me smile
Ohh you make me smile “
You brought the rain and shine into my life
I know you got to leave, but I’m not surprised
What’s the use? Any way, I lose. And there’s nothing I can do
Wanna know the truth? (Here, I do…)
I’m already missing you
And is this really worth saving?
If this can’t work anymore?
And I can see you don’t believe, so you’ll pack up and leave
I can’t change it…
This is just the way it is
What if I revised his words deep into my soul?
What if I see her smile, would it make me crave her more?
What if I heard his voice and it gave me no other choice than to pray?
From day to day I wonder
I’m not unsure, not quite certain though, where these problems came from
I’m not unsure, not quite certain though, why I’m feeling so drawn…
Just because it always was and it will always be this way
It works because all my love makes for a shining, shining day
Against the rain, you feel the change, I start to wonder if I’m ever going to see you again…
Then she tells me this is not the end.
Drawn to the smile on your face
But these are my dreams and this is your place
If that’s what you want, it’s not what I need, I’m high and dry and you’re at sea
Don’t leave (I’m listening)
You color every breath I breathe
‘Cause if everything changes…
Will this work anymore?
And I can see you don’t believe as I’m ready to leave
We can’t change this (No…)
Can we save this?
What if I told you the stars, he drew them only for you?
What if I can’t dream, ’cause I’m dreaming of you?
What have I got to lose if I never, ever reach the end of you?
I guess we’ll find out soon
I’m not unsure, not quite certain though, where these problems came from
I’m not unsure, not quite certain though, why I’m feeling so drawn to a life with you…
Just because it always was and it will always be this way
It works because all my love makes for a shining, shining day
Against the rain, you feel the change, I start to wonder if I’m ever going to see you again…
Then he tells me this is not the end…
This song is from the second installment of the series, whereas the previous song was from the first.
Create a place through shapes and shades
Build a blinding stage where beauty is made
But when your colors fade everything will change
I’m trying hard to imagine better
Daydream him, I’ll wait forever
I’ll pray that our paths blur together
It might not be true but it’s the best I can do
It’s only to keep a little piece of you
I can’t keep it inside I’ll have to shout it out loud
All of the things I couldn’t live without
And I’m pouring my heart
And I’m sealing my soul
And I’m taking a breath
And he’s giving his own
And I wanna walk out from the trouble I’m in
‘Cause I’m really not sure where to begin
And to think it it will make it better, better than it was before
Lies could bring us close together
So I won’t be lonely no more
Pretending it doesn’t matter could help me pass the time
In make believe he’ll hide forever
This is real life
This is real life
This is real life
Oh oh oh
This is real life
Oh oh oh
It’s time to see the real life
Painting your world full of tones
Write the story so you know how it goes
But my heart’s alone until he comes home
He’ll make a decision, he’ll have no choice
And I’ll hold him close, he’ll hear my voice
And I’ll pray we’re together
Forever
Take a deep breath, go for a walk
Wish he were here ’cause we’ve got to talk
I can’t keep inside, I’ll have to shout it out loud
All of the things I couldn’t live without
And I’m pouring my heart
And I’m sealing my soul
And I’m gasping for air
‘Cause he’s giving it all
And he wants to wake up from the big finish
And start it all over so we can repeat
And to think it it will make it better, better than it was before
Lies could bring us close together
So I won’t be lonely no more
Pretending it doesn’t matter could help me pass the time
In make believe he’ll hide forever
This is real life
This is real life
This is real life
Oh oh oh
This is real life
Oh oh oh
It’s time to see it
While he’s taking the steps and he’s taking a stand
He’s pulling down walls and doing all that he can
He’s through with black and white
And drawing the lines
Between make believe and real life
This is real life
This is real life
This is real life
Oh oh oh
This is real life
Oh oh oh
My real dreams have real love
Beneath the things that you can’t touch
This make believe is not enough
It’s time to see the real life
Aren’t those from Drawn To Life?
One’s from the first, one’s from the second. Gimme names, though.
I think it’s/they’re called The End, right? Not sure though. I haven’t played that game in forever.
You’ve gotten the name of the first one right.
Come on, just guess the second one.
An easy-to-guess snippet:
…Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?…
Yes, everyone on MuseBlog seems to like ColdPlay (THANK YOU SO MUCH PEOPLE!), and yes, I did guess that as Viva La Vida.
Hear the sledges with the bells
Silver bells
What a world of merriment
Their melody foretells
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle
In the icy air of night
All the heavens seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight
Keeping time, time, time
With a sort of Runic rhyme
From the tintinnabulation
That so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells
From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells
Hear the mellow wedding bells
Golden bells
What a world of happiness
Their harmony foretells
Through the balmy air of night
How they ring out their delight
Through the dances and the yells
And the rapture that impels
How it swells
How it dwells
On the future
How it tells
From the swinging and the ringing of the molten golden bells
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells
Of the rhyming and the chiming of the bells
Hear the loud alarum bells
Brazen bells
What a tale of terror now
Their turbulency tells
Much too horrified to speak
Oh, they can only shriek
For all the ears to know
How the danger ebbs and flows
Leaping higher, higher, higher
With a desperate desire
In a clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire
With the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells
With the clamor and the clanging of the bells
Hear the tolling of the bells
Iron bells
What a world of solemn thought their monody compels
For all the sound that floats
From the rust within our throats
And the people sit and groan
In their muffled monotone
And the tolling, tolling, tolling
Feels a glory in the rolling
From the throbbing and the sobbing
Of the melancholy bells
Oh, the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells
Oh, the moaning and the groaning of the bells.
Hear the sledges with the bells
Silver bells
What a world of merriment
Their melody foretells
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle
In the icy air of night
All the heavens seem to twinkle
With a crystalline delight
Keeping time, time, time
With a sort of Runic rhyme
From the tintinnabulation
That so musically wells
From the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells, bells
From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells
I will be pleasantly surprised if anyone gets this. Hint: It’s taken from a poem.
Am I allowed to guess this yet?
It’s from the poem written by Edgar Allen Poe…the Bells? I’m not sure what the song is, though.
Yeah, I should probably post a different song by the same guy.
Hup, two, three, four, marchin’ down the street
Rollin’ of the drums and the trampin’ of the feet
General salutes and the mothers wave and weep
Here comes the big parade
Don’t be afraid, price is paid
One more parade
Chorus:
So young, so strong, so ready for the war
So willin’ to go an’ die upon a foreign shore
All march together, everybody looks the same
So there is no one you can blame
Don’t be ashamed, light the flame
One more parade
Listen for the sound and listen for the noise
Listen for the thunder of the marching boys
Few years ago their guns were only toys
Here comes the big parade
Don’t be afraid, price is paid
One more parade
Chorus:
Medals on their coats and guns in their hands
Trained to kill as they’re trained to stand
Ten thousand ears need only one command
Here comes the big parade
Don’t be afraid, price is paid
One more parade
Chorus:
Cold hard stares on faces so proud
Kisses from the girls and cheers from the crowd
And the widows from the last war cry into their shrouds
Here comes the big parade
Don’t be afraid, price is paid
Don’t be ashamed, war’s a game
World in flames
So start the parade!!
Out here in the field…..
I fight for my meals
I get my back into my living
I don’t have to fight
To prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Don’t cry
Don’t raise your eyes
It’s only teenage wasteland
Referred to by some as Teenage Wasteland. TW, however, is not its actual title.
And:
I first meet this man at the Capen street tracks
In no shape for success headed nowhere too fast
He may have been someone once by the sound of his call
Now he answers to no one
NO-ONE AT ALL!
We all die alone, he shouted as he passed
With no sense of regret, see he never looked back
Though his pride was wounded, his ego was strong
Yeah, that was his trouble and this is his song!
You said we die alone, in this case you were right
No friends by your side or family in sight
There’ll be no talking your way out this time
So don’t count the cash cause you leave it behind
His friends come and go like the seasons and tides
He can’t keep a woman, they all realized
He loves them, leaves them, takes what he needs
He’s loyal to no one, no one at all!
You were brought up well still in spite of it all
You’re touched by nothing, watch a man fall
Put a foot on his back to get a better view
Cause your loyal to no-one, NO-ONE BUT YOU!
You said we die alone, in this case you were right
No friends by your side or family in sight
There’ll be no talking your way out this time
So don’t count the cash cause you leave it behind
He was broken and tired wouldn’t take a hand
Their kindness was simple but he couldn’t understand
See it’s hard to have faith in something so new
When your loyal to no one, NO-ONE BUT YOU!
You said we die alone, in this case you were right
No friends by your side or family in sight
There’ll be no talking your way out this time
So don’t count the cash cause you leave it behind
You said we die alone, in this case you were right
No friends by your side or family in sight
The first one: Baba O’Reilly? (probably spelled that wrong) By the Who?
Check, check and check. Baba O’Reily with one “L”. Nice Gravatar! Hey, you seem to be a Beatles fan, so I have a question: do you know if the four pictures on the back of “1” (the album) have names so I can google them? Like “Pop art beatles” or something? Yours is one of them.
I don’t know, but I think they might have been made by Peter Max. Anyone else know?
OK, this one isn’t too hard…
Every single night the same arrangement
I go out and fight the fight
Still I always feel the strange estrangement
Nothing here is real, nothing here is right
I’ve been making shows of trading blows
Just hoping no one knows
That I’ve been… [something that would give it away]
Overture/Going Through The Motions, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, episode title: Once More, With Feeling.
Yep. Are you another Buffy fan?
(Technically, the fact that it’s lyrics means that it’s just Going Through The Motions, not the overture.)
It’s real sick
The state of the world today
It’s real thick
To come up and find a way
Solution
The next time you’re alone
You can
Create a world of your own
Make it magic, give it love
Make it all you’re dreaming of
Everybody!
In my underwear
Sometimes I visit there
[would give song title away]
Let’s see if someone can guess this song from just the first couple of lines:
Iron is a metal, you see it every day.
Oxygen, eventually, will make it rust away.
Carbon, in its ordinary form, is cold.
Crush it together and diamonds are born.
Science!
Meet the Elements! They Might Be Giants!
One of my (many) favorite songs:
We are the lost,
the ones forgotten
and this time
the future is ours
its in our hands.
We’re the tear in your eye,
we’re the blood in your veins,
we’re the beat of your heart.
we’re the smile on your face,
we’re the ones that you chase,
we’re the promise
that you made.
Those lines are sort of disjointed and random, because I can’t look up the lyrics right now and I haven’t heard this song in forever. It’s by a very well known band, but it is a rare song. I have found one video of it on youtube, and I know the title, so good luck.
Don’t haul on the rope
don’t climb up the mast
if you see a sailin’ ship it might be your last
just get your civvies ready for another round ashore
a sailor ain’t a sailor ain’t a sailor anymore
Well you know they’re gonna try
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Blah blah blah blah blah
From the cradle bars
Comes a beckoning voice
It sends you spinning
You have no choice
You hear laughter
Cracking through the walls
It sends you spinning
You have no choice
You hear laughter
Cracking through the walls
It sends you spinning
You have no choice
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody’s looking for something.
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.
Sweet Dreams?
I think. The *********************** is “Sweet Dreams are made of this” so maybe the song is actually called “Sweet Dreams are made of this”.
Sudo- Isn’t it “Sweet dreams are made of THESE”? Oh my goodness, I used to be obsessed with this song. Actually, I used to be obsessed with Eurythmics in general, but Sweet Dreams is one of my favourites, along with the song that goes “Jennifer, with your orange hair, Jennifer, with your green eyes…” and so on. My friends still sing that song to annoy me. (My real name is, yep you guessed it, Jennifer, but I definitely don’t have orange hair or green eyes, nor would I ever even think of wearing a “dress of deepest blue”. XD)
125- I’ve heard it before. Don’t know what it is.
A song that’s been running through my head recently…
Now I’m
Where I wanna be and
Who I wanna be and
Doing what I always said I would and yet
I feel I haven’t won at all.
Running for my life and
Never looking back in
Case there’s someone right behind to shoot me down and
Say they always knew I’d fall.
When the crazy wheel
Slows down
Where will I be?
Back where I started.
On the same theme…
Never be the first to believe
Never be the last to deceive
Nobody’s on nobody’s side
Never leave a moment too soon
Never waste a hot afternoon
Nobody’s on nobody’s side
And never stay a minute too long
Don’t forget the best will go wrong
Nobody’s on nobody’s side.
Nobody? GAPAs are welcome to answer, as this might be a bit before most MBer’s time. *slight hint*
Yes, I know this is a few months old, but nobody’s answered… So… They’re both from Chess. I believe the first one is just called “Where I Wanna Be”… It comes right after “The Russian and Molokov”. The second is, of course, “Nobody’s on Nobody’s Side” (my second favorite song from that show!).
Here’s some good ones:
#1:
Harry Truman, Dorris Day
Red China, Johnny Ray
South Pacific, Walter Wincher
Joe DiMaggio
Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon
Studebaker, television,
North Korea, South Korea
Marilyn Monroe
#2:
Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
(the unofficial name does not count)
#3:
Picture yourself in a train in a station
With plaster-cine porters with looking-glass ties…
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes…
#4:
It’s a cool place, and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now, wait ’til you get older
But the meteor man begs to differ,
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin
The water’s gettin’ warm so you might as well swim
The world’s on fire, how ’bout yours?
That’s the way I like it and I never get bored.
1-3 are easy. I have no idea what 4 is.
1. “We Didn’t Start the Fire”
2. “The Ballad of Serenity”
3. “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”
Man… how did you get those so fast and so easily?!
*squee* I love all those songs, except for the second one, which I don’t know. The fourth one is “Allstar” by Smashmouth.
Here are two (I don’t think anyone will get the first one):
No matter which way you go
No matter which way you stay
You’re out of my mind (Out of my mind)
You’re out of my mind (Out of my mind)
I was walking with a ghost
I said, “Please, please don’t insist.”
I was walking with a ghost
I said, “Please, please don’t insist.”
—
“We wrote a prelude
to our own fairytale
And bought a parachute
at a church rummage sale
And with a mean sewing machine
and miles of thread,
we sewed the day above L.A. in navy and red
…(another verse here)
I’ll be out of my mind
And you’ll be out of ideas
pretty soon
So let’s spend
the afternoon in a cold hot-air balloon.”
The first one is Walking with a Ghost by Tegan and Sara.
Good job! *pies* I really like that song, although all my friends hate it.
I’ve seen his face, I’ve heard his name
I’ve lost my place, and he’s to blame
((I can’t remember if there’s another part here or not))
And I can’t stand it
When I’m staring in his eyes
And he’s not looking back
And he’ll never even try
This is old, but, um, a strange combination of “Sami” from Little White Lie and “Harry” from AVPM. Because I’m pretty sure those lyrics aren’t in Harry, but Sami uses the pronoun she.
Oh, whoops. Yeah, I guess when I wrote this I was confused about which song was which… Props to you.
Well, they’re basically the same song with a few words switched around.
Guess this song:
An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
A-plowing through the ragged sky and up the cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through [would give song title away]
For he saw the riders coming hard and he heard they mournful cry
Yippie yi yaaaaay
Yippie yi ohhhhhh
[would give song title ahh-way]
I think I’ve heard that before, or at least the chorus… “Ghost Riders In The Sky”? Or just “Ghost Riders”?
Zinnober- I don’t know… I might have heard it though.
128 should be really easy, if anyone bothers guessing. And now I have a new song running through my head, so I’m going to post it.
1) I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind,
I left my body laying somewhere in the sands of time
I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon,
I feel there is nothing I can do, yeah
I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
After all I knew it had to be something to do with you
I really don’t mind what happens now and then
as long as you’ll be my friend in the end
If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman
If I’m alive and well, will you be there holding my hand
I’ll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite…
2) Oh yeah you’re pretty good looking for a girl
But your back is so broken
And this feeling’s gonna linger on
Until the year 2525 now
Yeah you’re pretty good looking for a girl,
Your eyes are wide open
And your thoughts have been stolen by the boys
Who took you out and bought you everything you
want now
3) Oh oh oh oh oh
I ain’t happy
I’m feeling glad
I got sunshine
In a bag
I’m useless
but not for long
the future is coming on
I ain’t happy
I’m feeling glad
I got sunshine
In a bag
I’m useless
But not for long
The future is coming on
It’s coming on
It’s coming on
It’s coming on
Yeah, Haha!
Finally, someone let me out of my cage
Now time for me is nothing ’cause I’m counting no age
Now I couldn’t be there
Now you shouldn’t be scared
I’m good at repairs
And I’m under each snare
Intangible
Bet you didn’t think so I command you to
Panoramic view
Look I’ll make it all manageable
Pick and choose
Sit and lose
All you different crews
Chicks and dudes
Who you think is really kickin’ tunes?
Picture you gettin’ down in a picture tube
Like you lit the fuse
You think it’s fictional
Mystical? Maybe
Spiritual
Hearable
What appears in you is a clearer view cos you’re too crazy
Lifeless
To know the definition for what life is
Priceless
For you because I put you on the hype ***
You like it?
Gunsmokin’ righteous with one token
Psychic among those
Possess you with one go
Keep in mind none of these are the full songs.
Oh, thanks GAPAs! You didn’t have to fish that out of the spam bin. I forgot about the language until after I posted, because some of the lyrics I copy pasted. Then I realized but since there were so many unguessed songs I thought maybe it was best this way… Thanks! *cookies*
I really hope that someone knows this…
I’m a slave from Calcutta I’m a queen in Peru.
I’m a mermaid dancing upon the sea
I’m a huntress on an African safari
It’s a dangerous type of sport and yet it’s fun
In the night I sally forth to seek my quarry
And I find I forgot to bring my gun.
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens ev’ry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facin’ up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin’ sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin’ comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,…
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!
It’s really, very easy to guess, even if you don’t know the song or who it’s by.
Are you some kind mind reader? That song has been stuck in my head all day. Paint It Black by… Rolling Stones I think.
Not a mind reader, I don’t think. I’ve had that song stuck in my head since Siobhan sang it on Tuesday of Rolling Stones week on American Idol. She did a weird screechy thingy at the end of the song where it says Yeah!
“Allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste.”
If you know it, that one line should be enough.
133- “Sympathy for the Devil”.
129.1) Ambystoma Maculatum, I accept both your answers.
The song was “Ghost Riders In The Sky” (the rendition by Spiderbait).
132.1.1) Keiffer, yeah, Siobhan did do a weird screechy thing near the end, but the rest of that song was very good. I thought it was better than the original, and I hope she wins. Go Siobhan!!
Yeah. I haven’t been voting or whatever you do, but I’ve been cheering her on. [Personal info snipped. –Admin.]
I have another song that is harder. Some people on here will know it.
Child thy name is rock and roll, child thy name is rock and roll
When I was just a child mother took my little hand
And gently laid it down upon the radio
And then Father changed my life, He took headphones in his hands
And he slowly slid them down around my ears
Psychedelic sonic joy washed over me in waves
And through the sound I heard them say
Child thy name is rock, child thy name is rock
Child thy name is rock and roll, may you live long and rock and roll
How the years fly by, in the blink of a cosmic eye
The whole world changes but the song remains the same
Well it’s time for something new, a fresh mix of the sonic stew
Brand new brew, to intoxicate our minds
There will never come a day, when music tells a lie
So raise your hands into the sky, let me hear you cry
Child thy name is rock, child thy name is rock
Child thy name is rock and roll, may you live long and rock and roll
Yes I live (For the Rock) and I burn (For the Rock)
Even cry (For the Rock), how I yearn (For the Rock)
I would steal (For the Rock), blow your mind (For the Rock)
Say a prayer (For the Rock), any kind (For the Rock)
I would beg (For the Rock), on my knees (For the Rock)
Anything (For the Rock) that you please (For the Rock)
Dig a mile (For the Rock) on fire (For the Rock)
I would kill (For the Rock), shoot to thrill (For the Rock)
So don’t ask (For the Rock), take a stand (For the Rock)
Reach out (For the Rock), give a damn (For the Rock)
Scream, get mean
Bow down to the Gods of the lead guitar
For the rock
Child thy name is rock, child thy name is rock
Child thy name is rock and roll, may you live long and rock and roll
Who’s it by, and what’s the name? Mwahahah! (Just by reading the song, you should be able to figure out the title. Bonus if you know the band’s FULL name!)
I am probably the only person on the blog that can guess this. The title is Child Thy Name is Rock, and the band is the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra. (Sorry, Keiffer)
I said only a few people might know it. No need to be sorry.
There’s colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin’ their feet
People sleepin’ in their shoes
But there’s a warnin’ sign
on the road ahead
There’s a lot of people sayin’
we’d be better off dead
Don’t feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.
SFTDP GAPAs can answer, if no-one else can.
No idea, but I suspect it’s by Jethro Tull.
Shockingly, no.
Well I’m takin’ my time, I’m just movin’ along
You’ll forget about me after I’ve been gone
And I take what I find, I don’t want no more
It’s just outside of your front door.
He is like fire, burning through time
As old as forever, but fast in his prime
I saw his blue spaceship materialise
He stepped out and said to me, “run for your life!”
I don’t know why I never thought to ask him for his name
But I really don’t think he’d have told me the truth anyway
But you know, that’s ok
It’s completely terrifying but it’s so so exciting
He said I was brilliant and I could change the world
So many places I’ve been and there’s so much more to see
We’ve got galaxies and planets and moons
And an awful lot of running to do
As a full-time companion he gave me a key
And a phone with a signal in every galaxy
As we fell through the vortex I felt so free
Please don’t let this danger just be another dream
Because my life before you was unreasonably mundane
I’ve never been happier although we face death every day
I wouldn’t have it any other way
It’s completely terrifying but it’s so so exciting
He said I was brilliant and I could change the world
So many places I’ve been and there’s so much more to see
We’ve got galaxies and planets and moons
And an awful lot of running to do
You know you can fix that chameleon circuit if you just try hotwiring the fragment links and superseding the binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary *gasp*
It’s completely terrifying but it’s so so exciting
He said I was brilliant and I could change the world
So many places I’ve been and there’s so much more to see
We’ve got galaxies and planets and moons
And an awful lot of running … to do
Luna and other Who fans may get it.
I’m guessing it’s by Chameleon Circuit, but I don’t know the song title.
An Awful Lot of Running, by Chameleon Circuit.
Good job.
Oh my god a song about doctor who…*mind is offically blown*
More than a song, there are lots of Doctor Who fan bands.
See, I think I posted a much more famous song-well, here’s one I don’t know-
How much does it cost
I’ll buy it
The time is all we’ve lost
I’ll try it
He can’t even run his own life
I’ll damned if he’ll run mine.
Sunshine go away today
Don’t feel much like dancing
Some man’s gonna try to run my life
Don’t know what he’s asking
1.
But that joke isn’t funny anymore
No it’s too close to home
and it’s too near the bone
(too close to home, too near the bone…)
2.
I don’t understand why
we do what we do to each other
according to His word
we’re all born sisters and brothers
but we lie and we steal
fight and we kill
even though we know the way
3.
What do they know about us?
Are they thinking of somebody else?
Are they wondering what we might be?
Are they thinking of you or of me?
Yes, guys, you got it right – the song is officially called “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”
Try this, the title is obvious, but can you tell me where it came from?
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Yo yo yo
Oh no you didn’t
Sucka tried to play me
But you never paid me, Neva
Oh no you didn’t
Payback is a comin’
You will be runnin’, foreva’
Oh no you didn’t
Until i get my vengeance
I will never end this mayhem
Oh no you didn’t
I’m a mercenary
You ain’t got a prayer, you owe meeee
Oh no you didn’t
[Chorus]
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Didn’t you oh no
You didn’t pay me what you oweeee, me
So now its over for you
Yeah
Yo yo
Check it out
Oh no you didn’t
First you tried to trap me
Then you bust a cap in my AHEM.
Oh no you didn’t
Such humiliation will bring annihilation, at last
Oh no you didn’t
It will be delicious when I get vicious, tomorrow
Oh no you didn’t
There’s no second chances
You will do the dance of sorrowwwww
Oh no you didn’t
[Chorus]
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Didn’t you oh no
You didn’t pay me what you oweeee, me
So now its over for you
What a fool
A’ight common
Oh no you didn’t
Betta watch your back boy, keep runnin’
This ain’t just a game, I’ll never stop comin’
I got my arsenal
I put out the call
And when I’m finished ya’ll
You’ll be a rag doll
Fool tried to diss me
Now you’re gonna wish you were dead
Oh no you didn’t
After I deliver your blood will be a river of red
Oh no you didn’t
Better be aware when no one’s there to defend you
Oh no you didn’t
So many wish to kill its going to be a thrill to end youuuuuu
Oh no you didn’t
[Chorus]
Oh no you didnt
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Oh no you didn’t
Didn’t you oh no
You didn’t pay me what you oweeee me
So now its over for you
Hmmm. One more?
Make his fight on the hills in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun on they run through the endless gray
On they fight for their right, yes, but who’s to say?
For a hill, men would kill, why? They do not know
[Incomprehensible] wounds test their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain and they surely know
————————–
Time marches on
————————–
Take a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time he will
Blackened roar, massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now are his eyes to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be blinded eyes to see
——————–
Time marches on
——————–
Castle, that would be Metallica, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”.
I think the Incomprehensible word is “stiffened”.
Does anyone know which song this is?
“(Transportation)! (Transportation)! (Transportation)!
I want to ride my (Transportation)! (Transportation)! (Transportation)!
I want to ride my (Transportation)
I want to ride my (Transportation)
I want to ride my (Transportation)
I want to ride it where I like
You say black I say white.
You say bark, I say bite.
You say shark, I say hey man,
Jaws was never my scene
And I don’t like Star Wars.
You say Rolls, I say Royce.
You say God, give me a choice.
You say Lord, I say Christ.
I don’t believe in Peter Pan,
Frankenstein, or Superman.
All I wanna do is…
(Song title)! (Song title)! (Song title)!”
For this next song I’m only giving you one line: “Glaciers melting in the dead of night”.
Bicycle Race! Queen!
SFTDP By the way, today is Brian May’s birthday! :arrow:s
Time to put the earphones on!
No!
La la la la
La la la la
Laaaaaaa
La la la la
(Born to multiply) Born to multiply
Born to gaze into night skies
All you want’s one more Saturday
Well look here until then
They gonna buy your life’s time
So keep your wick in the air and your feet in the fetters
‘Till the day we come in doing cartwheels
We all crawl out by ourselves
And your shape on the dance floor
Will have me thinking such filth I’ll gouge my eyes
You’d be damned to be one of us girl
Faced with a dodo’s conundrum
I felt like I could just fly
But nothing happend every time I tried
Wooo, ooooh!
…Is it by the Shins? It’s by the Shins, isn’t it? From Oh, Inverted World, maybe? I lack my iPod, so I cannot confirm without cheating.
The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me ’till I’m sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There’s someone in my head but it’s not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes
I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon
“I can’t think of anything to say except…
I think it’s marvellous! HaHaHa!”
Pink Floyd. Brain Damage!
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world’s asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.
(Not the whole song)
UGGH!! I swear I’ve heard that song before I just can’t remember what it is *headdesk* by the way, you [shadowfire] know Three Hits, by the Indigo Girls, right?
Yes, you probably do, and yes, I know it.
Good. If I play it on guitar (well) will you sing it (I’ll sing to if necesary…but I’d rather not) at camp?
logical. by, uhh, someone.
Close: it’s “The Logical Song”, by Supertramp.
Hurrah!
Lyin’ in the park
On a beautiful day
Sun shine in the grass and the children play
Siren’s passin’
Fire engine’s red
Someone’s house is burning down on a day like this
The evening comes
And we’re hangin’ out
On the front step
And a car goes by with the windows rolled down
And that war song is playin “why can’t we be friends?â€
Someone’s screamin’ and cryin’ in the apartment upstairs
Funny the way it is
And if you think about it
Somebody’s goin’ hungry
And someone else is eatin’ out
Funny the way it is
Whether right or wrong
Somebody’s heart is broken
And it becomes your favorite song
[awhile later]
Standin’ on a bridge
Watch the water passin’ under me
It must have been much harder
When there was no bridge just water
Now the world is small
Remember how it used to be
With mountains, and oceans, and winters, and rivers and stars
(the lyrics provided do not by any means represent the entirety of the song)
If you don’t get this one, I will be very surprised.
She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
*surprises trust kokopelli*
It is “She Loves You” (1963) by the The Beatles.
She Loves You – The Beatles. Released as a single with “I’ll Get You” on the B-side. You know, back when we used records.
125 on Sweet Dreams: The song is called “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”. The band is Eurythmics.
Zinnober – Yeah, I thought so too. I just copy/pasted the lyrics and edited. don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Metallica fan. I just didn’t have time to write out the whole thing.
And another Queen song.
One man one goal one mission,
One heart one soul just one solution,
One flash of light yeah one god (song name)
One flesh one bone,
one true religion,
One voice one hope,
Wowowowo gimme (song name)
No wrong no right,
I’m gonna tell you there’s no black and no white,
No blood no stain,
All we need is one world wide vision.
One flesh one bone,
one true religion,
One voice one hope,
One real decision,
Wowowowo gimme (song name)
I had a dream,
When I was young,
A dream of sweet illusion,
A glimpse of hope and unity,
And visions of one sweet union,
But a cold wind blows,
And a dark rain falls,
And in my heart it shows,
Look what they’ve done to my dream.
So give me your hands,
Give me your hearts,
I’m ready,
There’s only one direction,
One world one nation,
Yeah (song name)
No hate no fight,
Just excitation,
All through the night,
It’s a celebration wowowowo yeah.
One flesh one bone,
one true religion,
One voice one hope,
One real decision.
Gimme one night,
Gimme one hope,
One man one man,
One bar one night,
One day hey hey,
Just gimme gimme gimme
(song name)
This is just one verse. It should be easy for certain MBers to guess.
He is quiet and small
He is black
From the ears to the tip of his tail
He can creep through the tiniest crack
He can walk on the narrowest rail
He can pick any card from a pack
He is equally cunning with dice
He is always decieving you into believing
That he’s only hunting for mice
He can play any trick with a cork
Or a spoon and a bit of fish paste
If you look for a knife or a fork
And you think it was merely misplaced
You have seen it one moment, and then it is gone!
But you find it next week lying out on the lawn!
MAGICAL MISTER MISTOFFELES.
I love the musical Cats. I have the DVD and saw it performed live by a local group a few years ago.
What about this one? Can anyone guess it? (I kinda don’t think anyone here listens to this person…)
Well I don’t tell jokes
and I don’t pass notes
You been sayin’ there ain’t much hope
you got nothing on me
I got friends uptown
and they don’t talk down
They been keepin’ me safe and sound
We got something to be
So in case you hadn’t noticed
I’m alright
not like I was before
Things used to be so hopeless
But not tonight
Tonight I’m walkin’ out that door
I’m not gonna cry
and I’m wavin’ good-bye
and I know this time
You got nothing on me
This one verse should be enough for people who know the song, but I will post more of it if requested.
When I find the living a bore
There’s a place I go
I answer the call, go over the wall
Where the crosses are all in a row
Mind the trees, get down on my knees
There’s a hole in the gate
I look around, that I won’t be found
And sit down next to his grave
I must admit, I really liked the sound of it so I looked it up.
Graveyard Picnic.
Boston locals might know these:
I’m a sailor peg, and I lost my leg
Climbin’ up the topsails, I lost my leg!
Oh how do you do, young Willy McBride
Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside
And rest for a while in the warm summer sun
I’ve been walking all day, and I’m nearly done
And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen
When you joined the great fallin’ in 1916
Well I hope you died quick
And I hope you died clean
Or Willy McBride, was is it slow and obscene
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind
In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined
And though you died back in 1916
To that loyal heart you’re forever nineteen
Or are you a stranger without even a name
Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane
In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained
And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
The sun shining down on these green fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now!
But here in this graveyard that’s still no man’s land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man’s blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation were butchered and damned!
Ooh! One of my favorite songs! By Eric Bogle, originally from Scotland, now in Australia.
Oh, good job, Lady Bunniful!
If you like that, you should hear the Dropkick Murphys version, it’s just amazing. Absolutely no screaming or anything normal…for them. Just peaceful music. I can suggest a link-
[snipped, as usual. –Admin.]
And this is a particular video. You can only find it if you know exactly what to look for. It takes a very strange search phrase to find it.
The guy made it using recorded footage from Call of Duty 5, and the end result adds tremendous feeling to the song.
In case you do delete the link, the username of the uploader is 0blivi0u5kid and the video is entitled ‘The Green Fields of France-Music Video’.
Worth a shot, wasn’t it?
It’s a Voltaire song about Edgar Allan Poe, but I can’t remember the title.
Castle (148)- The Queen song be One Vision.
Anybody guess this one? (Hint- From what I know, I think Aggie has the best chance.)
Some kind of metal made up of glue
Some kind of plastic I can wrap around you
The needy eat man-mades, they wear phony clothes,
they sit with barbiturates until they grow old
Some kind of nature (some kind of nature, some kind of soul)
Come forth within us
Oh lord forgive me (Some kind of mixture, some kind of gold)
It’s gonna come and find us
All we are is stars.
There are a few interpretations of these lyrics (such as, some people hear stars as dust, and I personally hear phony as funny, but that seems to be just me) but they’re mostly intact, and if you know the song you should be able to guess it easily.
How strange. I definitely closed the italics, I specifically remember checking. HTML gnome?
I dance around this empty house
Tear us down, throw you out
Screaming down the halls
Spinning all around and now we fall
Pictures framing up the past
Your taunting smirk behind the glass
This museum full of ash
Once a tickle, now a rash
First two stanzas of the song.
You weren’t there, you never were
You want it all, but that’s not fair
I gave you life, I gave my all
You weren’t there, you let me fall
Stanza from the middle of a different song, same artist.
She lives in a fairytale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she left behind
It’s all about the exposure
The lens, I told her
The angle was all wrong, now she’s
Ripping wings off of butterflies
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head’s in the clouds
So go get your chauffeur
And we’ll take you deeper
To bury the castle
Bury the castle
Go get your chauffeur
And we’ll take you deeper
To bury the castle
Bury the castle
Ba da ba, ba da ba ba da
So one day he found her cryin’
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick
And the clock struck twelve
We’ll make sure
To build our house brick by boring brick
Or the wolf’s gonna blow it down
Keep your feet on the ground
When your head’s in the clouds
So go get your chauffeur
And we’ll take you deeper
To bury the castle
Bury the castle
Go get your chauffeur
And we’ll take you deeper
To bury the castle
Bury the castle
Ba da ba, ba da ba ba da
Ba da ba, ba da ba ba da
Ba da ba, ba da ba ba da
Ba da ba ba ba, ba da ba ba!
Too easy:
“I’m a man of the land, I’m into discipline /
Got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin /
But if I finish all of my chores and you finish thine /
Then tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1699”
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends
Rest assured you’ll get your money’s worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell or Earth.
You’ve got to see the show, it’s a dynamo.
You’ve got to see the show, it’s rock and roll ….
Right before your eyes we pull laughter from the skies
And he laughs until he cries then he dies then he dies
Come inside the shows about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
You gotta see the show
It’s a dynamo
You gotta see the show
It’s rock and roll
Soon the Gypsy Queen in a glaze of Vaseline
Will perform on guillotine
What a scene! What a scene!
Next upon the stand will you please extend a hand
to Alexander’s Ragtime Band
Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!
See the show!
Performing on a stool we’ve a sight to make you drool
Seven virgins and a mule
Keep it cool. Keep it cool.
We would like it to be known the exhibits that were shown
were exclusively our own,
All our own. All our own.
Come and see the show! Come and see the show! Come and see the show!
See the show!
Well? Anyone guessing this one?
“Could we have kippers for breakfast, mummy dear, mummy dear?
They’ve got to have ’em in Texas, ’cause everyone’s a millionaire.”
New thread? This is over a year old with over 430 posts.
And the song snippets!
(Cuz they’ll die if they don’t get to sleep) Let them go to sleep
(Plumbthroat has a thing for killing insomniac jellyfish) Tangle buddies, tangle buddies, tangle buddies, tangle buddies
(It’s not a pretty sight) Oh, the tangle buddies in the tangle buddies goin’ out to sea
(Let’s go to Brineswallow) Going to the Brineswallow now, the Brineswallow now, Brineswallow
Tangle Buddies,
Let’s become
Tangle buddies,
That’s right
Tangle Buddies,
You heard me
Tangle Buddies
Does anybody know this?
I cried out on a moonlit night
I was thinkin’ back on time
A cold breeze takes over me
oh he was a friend of mine.
I feel lost so I’m looking out
I’m searching for guiding light
I keep aiming for the sun
so that my shadows fall behind
oh am I just wasting my time?
oh am I just wasting my time?
Yeah, a storm is threatening
My very life today
If I don’t get some (song name)
Lord, I’m gonna fade away
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away, hey, yeah
Oh, see the fire is sweepin’
At our streets today
Burnin’ like a red coal carpet
A mad bull lost its way
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away, hey, yeah
Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Rape, murder, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
Yeah, a storm is threatening
My very life today
A (song name)
Or I’m gonna fade away
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
War, children, yeah, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away, shot away, shot away
It’s just a shot away, it’s just a shot away
It’s just a shot away, shot away, shot away
I tell love, sister, yeah, it’s just a kiss away
I tell love, sister, yeah, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away, it’s just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away
It’s just a kiss away, it’s just a kiss away
It’s just a kiss away, it’s just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away, kiss away, kiss away
(song name) yeah, (song name),yeah
(song name), yeah, (song name)
(song name), (song name)
Gimme Shelter, The Rolling Stones.
Love that song.(a little weird, no?)
Good job!
There it goes
Another one is gone
Another try
Another one is wrong
Where to go?
What is there to say here?
I don’t know
I’ve never really felt
Good about the hand that I’ve been dealt
What kind of game is this anyway here?
I want to make a statement
About the pictures and their awful placement
I want everyone to see it too
I know that many Musers know the artist, but their probably more acquainted with some of his other works.
*they’re. I’m obviously tired.
That’s… It’s Over Now, by Starkid Potter. I’m not sure which one of them wrote the songs, though.
Next time you point your finger
I might have bend it back and break it, break it off.
Next time you point your finger,
I point you to the mirror.
Hint: It’s a Paramore song.
Playing God.
epic song!
A long
long time ago,
I fell to this place
from another dimension.
And thrust amongst the beasts
and the way they behave, it borders on dementia.
Now, through all these years,
I can barely take it.
I don’t think I can make it.
Take me away from here.
I wanna go home.
I’m so sick and tired of:
The taste of tears,
the sting of pain,
the smell of fear,
the sounds of crying.
Oh, as you stand there at the edge of your life
what do you remember?
Was it all you wanted?
(I find this song depressing, but I guess I felt like feeling sad today.)
Um… Feathery Wings, maybe…?
There’s children throwing snowballs
Instead of throwing heads,
They’re busy building toys
And absolutely no one’s dead!
There’s frost in every window –
Oh, I can’t believe my eyes –
And in my bones, I feel the warmth
That’s coming from inside…
What’s this, by Fall Out Boy?
Technically, it’s from The Nightmare Before Christmas, but yeah.
Yep, definitely Feathery Wings.
Sorry I didn’t check until just now, but yeah, it’s “Feathery Wings”. Kudos to both of you!
163.1- Oh! “What’s This?” from The Nightmare Before Christmas was one of my favorite songs in that movie which I love. Ironically, I was about to post that myself, but forsook it in favor of the melancholic.
This one may be very obvious to any Doctor who fans, but it’s a fun song.
Sally Sparrow, I wrote you a letter
To make you feel better ’bout the fact that I’m gone
I may be stuck in the past
But my future is vast
Don’t go looking for me
Girl, you’ve got to go on
Don’t think he’s taking to you
He’s just on the TV
Well look past the Easter Egg
And see the reality
A world of time and space
Inside a funny blue box
The angels are approaching
And the front door is locked
Blink, by Chameleon Circuit.
Better late than never, I guess…
Got no future in a great big past,
Little bitty guy on the rim of my glass
Gotta meet the plane so I can get my monkey,
Teach him to be cool
But a little bit funky
Got no credit,
And I got no fear
And I got about a buck,
So I can buy a beer
Gotta see a doctor ’bout the words I’ve said,
And I gotta get a bike
And I gotta paint it red.
Oh no,
We gotta go
We’re not gonna live forever
Why? Why? We gotta die?
You know that we’ll be together
Hey hey we gotta say,
I could never be a savior
You don’t have to be there,
‘Cause I’m never never never
Comin’ home.
Three feet deep in a slow motion wreck,
I was walkin the walk,
And I was talkin to the best
I was wrinkled and shriveled,
And steppin’ outta line,
Had the end against the middle and losin every time
I was famous and heinous and crippled and sad,
Thought I was invincible the baddest of the bad
Then I woke up one morning,
And I stepped out of bed
Had to get a bike,
Had to paint it red.
Oh no,
We gotta go
We’re not gonna live forever
Why? Why? We gotta die?
You know that we’ll be together
Hey hey we gotta say,
I could never be a savior
I know that you’ll miss me,
But I’m never never never
Comin’ home.
Oh no
We gotta go,
We’re not gonna live forever
Why? Why? We gotta die?
You know that we’ll be together
Hey hey we gotta say,
I could never be a savior,
You don’t have to be there
‘Cause I’m never never never
Comin’ home
Staring in disbelief
Out at the gloom
I was forced with remorse to learn the bassoon
I got real good in about six years
Started playin’ out for a couple of beers
Then one day I was playin at the gig and in walked the monkey with a couple of funky friends
He came right over and said this is what you’ll do
You’re gonna get a bike
You’re gonna paint it blue.
Oh no
We gotta go
We’re not gonna live forever
Why? Why? We gotta die
You know that we’ll be together
Hey hey we gotta say
I could never be a savior
I know that you’ll miss me,
But I’m never never never
Comin’ home.
Guess THAT. I’ll be truly amazed.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess “But I’m never never never comin’ home”.
It’s actually called Dracula From Houston.
So give me a shot to show what I’ve got
I’m a h*** of a whole lot more
Than this frizzy hair, these frumpy clothes I wear
Though I rock ’em like nobody you’ve seen before
The Coolest Girl, AVPS. Now it’s stuck in my head!
Yup. I was trying to pick it out on the piano earlier.
Take off at the speed of sound
Bright lights, colors all around
I’m running wild, living fast, and free
Got no regrets inside of me
Not looking back (Not looking back)
Not giving up (Not giving up)
Not letting go
I’ll keep on running
———
If you could tell me how to lend a hand
I would try to understand
No words can say how much I care
Together we can take a stand
Don’t fall apart, speak with your heart
And always take it with you back to the start
Don’t know the second one, but the first one is easy. “Reach for the Stars”, the Sonic Colors theme.
I take my heart into battle
Give that freedom bell a rattle
Get my independence signed
Declare it on the dotted line.
That’s the theme song to “Liberty’s Kids”!
“All the old paintings in the tombs
They do the sand dance, don’t you know?”
I like this thread. Here’s one more, but just two verses to conserve space.
I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the (name of song)
An August summer night
Soldiers passing by
Listening to the (name of song )
I like it too. Here’s one that I’m doubting anyone will guess. Shatter my expectations, MuseBlog!
“And I’m not gonna live my life on one side of an ampersand,
And even if I went with you, I’m not the girl you think I am,
And I’m not gonna match you, ’cause I’ll lose my voice completely,
Yeah, I’m just gonna watch you, ’cause I’m not the one who’s crazy…”
I’ll just post the first line of this one. If you can’t get it by just the first line, you’re not going to get it. And if you don’t get it, you seriously need to explore the source material.
This was a triumph.
I’m making a note here: huge success.
It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science.
We do what we must, because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there’s no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying ’til you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are Still Alive.
I’m not even angry.
I’m being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my-you know what, we should probably stop this. It starts getting a bit out of hand once you get to the second verse.
I only feel slightly bad about singing the ending song to a game I’ve never played. Ah, MuseBlog…
Someone’s bound to know this one:
I was born down in the valley
where the sun refused to shine
but I’m climbing up to the highlands
Gonna make that mountain mine
Um, yes. Should I let someone else answer?
By this point, I’d say go ahead.
Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
Old days, don’t come to find me,
the sun is just about to climb up over there.
‘While my heart is sinking I do not want my voice
to go out into the air’.
Did you leave the darkness without me?
You’re always miles ahead.
And you’re standing in (name of song)
Oh be the music in my head,
the air around my bed, oh be my rest.
Replace the small disgraces of
the times and places that I never really left.
Did you leave the darkness without me?
You’re always miles ahead.
And you’re standing in (name of song)
Oh I want to fly, fly forward into the light,
be alive, to come alive,
on the leaf-bright Friday drive,
sudden horses at the red light,
turn around, see clearer ways to go now.
5-Regina Spektor!
I have 5 CDs of her. :]
I have a friend who likes Regina Spektor. Whenever en is mentioned I think “Don’t you mean Rosanne Spector?”
*fail*
Oh! #1 is from Avenue Q, and #4 is from the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
You are so darn right it’s not even funny.
I would like to reach out my hands
I may see you, I may tell you to run
(On my way)
(On my way)
You know what they say about the young
Despite the fact that in the actual singing of the song the lyrics are largely unintelligible, I do happen to be absolutely sure that this is Send Me On My Way. Rusted Root. AMAZING song.
-A
I am not a child now
I can take care of myself
I mustn’t let them down now
Mustn’t let them see me cry
I’m fine
I’m fine
That’s the song from Peter Pan 2 that Jesse McCartney covered, and I’m going to have to google for the title….”I’ll Try”
Yep. I didn’t like the movie that much but the beginning of the song is …it just basically sums up how I feel when I’m sad.
BEST SONG ABOUT RELIGION EVER!!!!!
I’ll put all the lyrics because it’s a pretty short song.
I waited for the light to come
to change my life, to change my life
But I am blind, my faith is gone
I’m finding out the good book was wrong
And I must face
that I won’t be saved
We’re destined to all die alone
I buried my cross with a rose
I won’t kneel at your alter now that I know
It’s a table for a magic show
I’m getting up from off my knees
the guilt is gone and I can finally breathe
But there is not a plan for me
You’re making my tired ears bleed
And you can pray
But I won’t be saved
We’re destined to all die alone
I buried my cross with a rose
I won’t kneel at your alter now that I know
It’s a table for a magic show
Let’s try not to be too inflammatory, here.
As for the song, I have no idea.
Oooh yes, I can see how it could be interpreted that way. This song doesn’t represent my own views in any way. I just think it’s beautiful, and I also don’t know any Christian music. So by “best song about religion” I mean that it’s the best song I know about religion.
I’m a Buddhist (technically, though I rarely practice), anyway.
Hint: Buddhism might have something to do with the name of the band.
Holy Cow?
Nevermind that. I was thinking of Hinduism. *shouldn’t be awake*
SFTDP
Sudo! Chess!
Not (as Sudo said) to be inflammatory, but what are some Christians’ thoughts on the lyrics of this song? I view it from the lens of an outsider since I’ve never been Christian. CALLING ALL CHRISTIANS!!!!
Another hint: Calling All Christians is less than a word away from the name of another song by this band that is on the same album.
I think it is an honest opinion from an honest point of view. However, in my opinion, the person who wrote this is mistaken. I’ve been a Christian practically my entire life, so this may be a bit biased, but I find that being a real Christian is really cool. I have a lot of friends who feel the way I do also. I think that if you just go through the motions, its not worth it but if you really take the time to understand Christianity it really speaks to you. Or at least to me. Plus, my youth group center has several Playstation2’s, Guitar Hero 2, Star Wars Battlefront, Transformers: The Game, and some other games I can’t remember.
I haven’t been to youth group in forever, and I still think being a Christian is pretty cool.
So what do you think about the song?
I entirely agree with Bluefire’s first point. It’s an honest opinion, and no less outspoken that Christian worship songs.
I meant more outspoken. *headdesk*
“MY NAME IS SUE
HOW DO YOU DO?
NOW YOU GONNA DIE.”
A Boy Named Sue, the lyrics for which were written by Shel Silverstein.
Und ich flieg, flieg, flieg wie ein Flieger.
Bin so stark stark stark wie ein Tiger.
Und so gross, gross, gross wie ein Giraffe.
So oh, oh oh oh!
(sorry, I don’t have the “ss” thing)
My German friend taught me this song. She hates it. She thinks it’s super annoying.
It could be ten, but then again, I can’t remember half an hour since a quarter to four.
Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa, and you leave me with my jaw on the floor.
Ok Go, Here it Goes Again!
I’m so glad that someone else knows that as something other than “the treadmill video”.
Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy — won’t you look down over me
Yeah I got a first class ticket
But I’m as blue as a boy can be
Then I’m walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel
Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered ’round his tomb
But there’s a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room
And I was walking in Memphis
Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel
Walking in Memphis! Marc Cohn!
(shadowfire is actually very relieved that someone else her age has heard that song)
Walking in Memphis!
I love this song!
1)”if i had a day that i could give you
I’d give to you a day just like today
if i had a song that i could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way”
2)” Somebody turn the lights on,
somebody tell me what’s wrong.
I’d be lying if I told you, losing you is somethin I can handle”
Don’t know 2), but 1) is Sunshine on my Shoulders by John Denver.
(This is just the first verse, but if I type any more it won’t make sense unless I go far enough to give it away.)
You can scratch the antique furniture
to sharpen up your claws.
You can lacerate the cushions
if you’re ever stuck indoors.
You can dig up all the flowers
from the freshly planted beds,
and on articles of clothing
it’s OK to pull some threads!
(Not my customary Voltaire, but I really like this song.)
Another song I’m not sure anyone will get.
Caress the one, the never-fading
Rain in your heart, the tears of snow white sorrow.
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land, of the daybreak.
Amaranth, by Nightwish! My sister went through a Nightwish phase and this is one of the few songs I remember well.
Yeah, I love Nightwish, although the singer debate gets on my nerves. I’ve had that song stuck in my head all day. It’s good
Tarja! Anette! Tarja! Anette! It’s almost as bad as Edward vs Jacob.
Especially because I like both of them, and apparently that’s some kind of heresy. Neutrality? SHE MUST BURN!
I was considering posting this one! I love that song!
Two goodies:
Crystals, blisters
It’s all over now
Psycho cane
You’re so keen
I need more candy canes
——————————————
Blue are the words I say
And what I think,
Blue are the feelings
That live inside me
The second one is that song called Blue with the indecipherable chorus. I’m not sure who it’s by.
Nearly two years late: the first one is Twister from The World Ends With You!
I should hope that a lot of MBers will get this one.
May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home
May It Be, from the LotR soundtrack. Originally sung by Enya.
Title and artist, anyone?
Every time I go to dinner
it seems like I’m getting a little bit thinner
I’ll sit down at the breakfast table
I can talk, but they’re not able
When I look at them I find
there’s a single question on their mind.
I wish it could go back to the way it was
its not easy now because…
My whole family thinks I’m gay
I guess its always been that way.
Maybe its cause of the way I walk,
that makes them think that I like…boys
The g**d*** question just wont go away
and I get asked every single day
but the way they ask it is no disguise,
like “How was your day? Do you like to kiss guys?”
This is the worst, baby this was my fear
Now their opinions are crystal clear.
My whole family now is shocked,
I’m in the closet and the door is locked.
Now my glory days are gone,
I was John Elway now I’m Elton John.
…..
Just cause I’m afraid of the snow,
Or my favorite color is, the rainbow.
I don’t mean to yell but I fear I must,
Cause I’m losing the people that I thought I could trust.
Even my boyfriend thinks I’m gay…just kidding
You all probably think I’m gay,
Man this song is counterproductive…
la la la la la…
Cause my whole family thinks I’m gay,
What am I suppose to say?
Baby you gotta see right through the haze,
Easy-Bake oven was just a phase.
My whole family thinks I’m queer,
That is all I ever hear,
But I’ve been as straight as a ramp,
If you don’t count Bible camp.
No idea, but this song cracks me up.
My Whole Family Thinks I’m Gay, by Bo Burnham.
I am a question to the world,
Not an answer to be heard,
All a moment that’s held in your arms.
And what do you think you’d ever say?
I won’t listen anyway,
You don’t know me,
And I’ll never be what you want me to be.
And what do you think you’d understand?
I’m a boy, no, I’m a man,
You can take me and throw me away.
And how can you learn what’s never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own.
They don’t know me ’cause I’m not here.
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change,
They’re the ones that stay the same.
The don’t know me,
‘Cause I’m not here.
And you see the things they never see
All you wanted, I could be
Now you know me, and I’m not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
They can’t break me
As long as I know who I am
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change,
They’re the ones that stay the same.
They can’t see me,
But *title*.
They can’t tell me who to be,
‘Cause I’m not what they see.
And the world is still sleepin’,
While I keep on dreamin’ for me.
And their words are just whispers
And lies that I’ll never believe.
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can they say I never change
They’re the ones that stay the same.
I’m the one now,
‘Cause *title*.
I’m still here, by John Rzezenic. I love Treasure Planet, and this song.
I love it too, obviously. I used to like the french version best, but now I’ve gone back to preferring the english one.
1. (I know Ducky, at least, will get this song)
The rainy season comes to pass,
The Day-Glo pirate sinks at last,
And if I laughed a bit too fast, well
It was up to me…
2. Never was a cornflake girl,
Thought that was a good solution
Hanging with the raisin girls,
She’s gone to the other side,
Giving us a yo heave ho
Things are getting kind of gross
And I go at sleepy time
This is not really happening
You bet your life it is…
Up to Me, by the Dayglo Pirates.
*snerk* Well, you actually have the song title right…
Not exactly in line with the rest of the thread, but…
Life Forms!
You tiny little life forms!
You precious little life forms!
Where-are-you?
Data’s Life Forms Song, from Star Trek Generations.
((This is a pretty short section, but if you have ever heard this before, you will recognize it. If you have not, I could post the entire song and it would not make any caking sense to you at all.
Please guess the title and the movie it is from.))
They used and abused me!
Battered and bruised me!
Red wires!
Green wires!
Stuck ’em right through me!
So hear my batty word
and excersize a little prudence
when dealing with….
humans.
Oh dear. I suppose this movie is so far from mainstream that not even most MBers have seen it. That’s a shame…
Humans? WHERE? *runs into a tree*
Anyway, FernGully. That bat SCARED me as a child.
But in the town it was well known
When they got home at night, their fat and
Psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives!
(inhuman scream)
Guess away. This one’s fairly easy, but in case it’s too easy, try this:
We waited together for the cowards to come
Outgunned and outnumbered but we wouldn’t run
