  1. Pseudonym says:

Are we playing Corrupt-A-Wish? Can I start?

Okay, I wish for a flamethrower.

Wish granted, but you accidentally light yourself on fire and die.

I wish that the weather would cool off here in NE where I am unfortunately currently located.

Okay Luna, your house is buried under 12 feet of snow.

  4. speller73 says:

Wish granted. You have way, way, way below freezing temperatures. Like anyone who goes outside even with a coat instantly freezes to death.

I wish we didn’t have a calc final.

    • Enceladus says:

Granted, now you have two calc finals. And an ugly vampire, without a soul, and no slayer that knows about it!

I wish I could find Buffy the Vampire Slayer online for no cost or viruses.

      • speller73 says:

Uh, I do have 2 calc finals… And what are you talking about? I totally have a plan for attacking a vampire…

Wish granted. You get the crappy movie, not the actual TV show.

I wish school was over already.

        • Enceladus says:

Granted, but due to the fact you are not withing the walls of a place of education, a horde of mind eating zombie creatures arrive and eat your mind. And all memory of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Oh, and they find the entire internet and eat it too.

I wish the next episode of Doctor Who was already out, and I could watch it, and it was in good quality, and it was as amazing as all the other episodes.

          • Jakob Wonkychair says:

Wish granted. Now there are only 4 more episodes in the season, and you will have to wait half a year for the next one.
I wish I can have more time this year to clean the art rooms, including the photography office.

            • speller73 says:

Wish granted. Your art rooms become really gross and you *have* to clean them out.

I wish that I had ice cream. Good, nonpoisonous ice cream mind you.

              • Jakob Wonkychair says:

Oh, that’s fine, they need organizing and stuff anyways. There’s the Design Lab with its Archive Room and office, the Photography Room with Darkrooms and Office, and the Art Room with its Office. They all need maintaining.
Wish granted. You have chocolate ice cream tomorrow at 92 degrees, it sticks in your throat and you taste it all day.
I wish my camera batteries actually kept a charge.

                  I wouldn’t mind that… I adore chocolate ice cream…

Wish granted. You lose your camera.

I wish I never had to sleep.

                  • I-Man ((William II, OSW's Secretary)) says:

Wish granted. Your appearance becomes so delirious that you freak out someone on the streets and that person proceeds to shoot you.

I wish my school year ended last Friday so I could hurry up and get a copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy while they’re still floating about out there.

                    • SudoRandom says:

Wish granted. You scoop up the last one that, miraculously, no-one has taken, bring it home, and begin playing it. Then you realize that the reason no-one had taken it was because it was defective and your gaming platform bursts into a massive explosion, nearly destroying your house, and nearly taking your life. Also, in your haste to take it, you forgot to pay for it, and the CIA, FBI, and Secret Service show up at your house and arrest you because they believe you are a terrorist who knew the game was defective and planned to use it as a bomb.

Wish granted. You never get tired, but everyone around you is asleep for half of each of your days, making you lonely and depressed.
I wish one of my math teachers was not leaving in a week….

Okay. This is how diplomacy might work. Everyone who wants to play should reply and download jdip from sourceforge or realpolitik from somewhere. We can choose a variant they both have that fits the number of people. We make the whole game a set of replies ot this comment. We would have spoiler alerts for moves, and I could be the GM, unless the GAPAs want to step up. I would also play. I would post the picture on the blog and people would reply to that for the next move. Objections/Reccomendations/Joining?

  24. This is really a puzzle, not a game, but it’s fun. The object is to transform one word into another by changing one letter at a time to create a chain of real words.

For example, if I said, “Can you change CORN into RICE?” you might come up with CORN-CORE-MORE-MIRE-MICE-RICE. If there’s more than one way to do it, the shorter chain is usually considered more elegant. (That one has four intermediate links.)

Here’s a magazine-related one: Who can change Muse into Time?

      • Great! The challenge here is to change the final consonant-vowel-consonant combination into vowel-consonant-vowel. Doubled consonants, doubled vowels, and final “s” can be very handy (e.g., PARTS-WARTS-WAITS). Here’s mine:

It doesn’t matter to you when they suffer and die, and you may even develop a few psychopathic tendencies. None of that’s very likely/significant, but it was the best I could do.
87.1.2: All sorts of amazing things happen, and all your problems are fixed, and everything is wonderful, and you get to the point where you can’t imagine life any other way. Then everyone you know dies a slow and painful death, and get very little food and water and are often tortured and eventually driven into insanity. If there’s a pleasant afterlife, you will have discovered the secret of eternal life before the bad things happen but not had the chance to share it with anyone else (If you’re not the sort of person who would use something that gave eternal life, you did by accident.), and there is one but it’s absolutely awful), you die soon.If there isn’t one, you die just as things are starting to look a bit better.

89.1.1 Granted, but it tastes like rotten broccoli covered in a substance too putrid to name. Also, broccoli no longer exists because as soon as people heard that carrots tasted like broccoli, they let carrots go extinct.
89.2: Optimized for tardigrades? Well, that’s certainly better than for no-one at all. At least, I expect so. I’d have to give it some thought. They have basically everything they need, really. The world might contain more water, which would be good, but certain types of nematodes and amoebas would go extinct, which is bad. And… That’s about it, unless they were sentient. In that case, I imagine they’d take over the universe. That would be… interesting. I’ve heard there’s a book about that, actually, except it was just one planet, not the entire universe; it sounded vaguely like a bad sci-fi movie. I definitely plan to read it sometime; I expect it’ll be funny. Humans certainly wouldn’t be doing anymore experiments on them, but that’s actually rather good in my opinion, because they’d be safer. But if tardigrades were larger, the universe would have to contain much more moss… Which would be good, as that would bring more oxygen and moss never hurt anyone. Either way, are you sure that wish was corrupted thoroughly? I really wouldn’t mind if that were to happen; in fact, I think I’d probably like it.

I politely request that you leave the hill. When that doesn’t work, I push you off the hill, climb it, and put up a lot of signs saying ‘Bibliophile’s Hill’ so that anyone who defeats me will have to remove all the signs, too, plant my feet in the ground and glue them in place, and call someone to deliver a dragon trained to guard my place (who is fiercely loyal to me and would NEVER under any circumstances attack me, even if hypnotyzed, but won’t hesitate to attack anyone who dares to approach and is harder to harm than a tardigrade). All this might seem unnecessary, but I think it’s vital if the hill is stolen that often. Why is it important, again?

That sounds really fun! A great way to A) Find interesting threads and B) Learn about philosophy. I’ll do it in a few minutes. Why didn’t ou say which threads you landed on?

Interesting how my chain meets with ZNZ’s chain at “Information”. I guess more general threads (like “information”) are more likely the first link than weird specific articles (like “state highway”, so it’s only so long before you hit something like “Science” or “Language”, and then you’re in the rut.
Another fun variation on this game is to pick an ending article, such as “Tina Fey”, and then try to get to it from a random article in as few clicks (on whatever links you like) as possible- Here, I’ll try.

    All at Once (album)
    Los Angeles
    New York City
    NBC
    30 Rock
    Tina Fey

In that case I actually got a really easy one, but you get the idea.

Hmm, this is very interesting. Someone should go through every Wikipedia article and see the first links and every chain!

You can also just play the game “Vaguely Related” which is like sudo/piggy’s game minus wikapedia. You just start with an idea or word, and then the next person says something that is only vaguely related to the first, and explains why. Go around in a circle, and see how long you can go without getting back to the original idea or word. Posts can be vetoed if they are too closely related. I’ll start of a game:
