Happy Spring 2007!

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, the vernal equinox (beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere; of autumn, on the other side of the equator) takes place at 0007 Universal Time on March 21. That’s 7:07 p.m. MuseBlog time (= United States Central Daylight Time). Europeans, New Zealanders, and residents of other North American time zones will have to figure the local time out for themselves.

Anyhow, it’s spring on half the planet, and the other half has a nice season to celebrate, too. Rejoice!

  1. w00t, indeed, SM2K! Considering the topic and the beautiful day — which here is actually springlike for once — I, for one, will not consider your comments to be pointless posts. This is a day of manifest w00tness.

  7. Spring isn’t coming for us. We got really hot a couple weeks ago, and now we are in a cold snap again! My hands went blue during hockey this morning!

  8. We have cold mornings and really hot afternoons. Well, it’s spring. Not that we had a harsh winter. We got about 3 inches of snow in 3 months. How fun…

  11. Yay!! It was kind of a short winter here (in terms of the feeling…little snow), but it was SO COLD, like record cold, for about a month straight. It feels good to have the sun shining again.

“Here comes the sun, little darling, here comes the sun, and I say its alright…”

  12. 18-It was sort of like that for us, except now we’re getting close-to-record heat. What ever happened to normal temperatures?

I guess i can’t complai about rain since we’ve had very little this year (i heard on the radio that we’ve had like 10 inches less than usual) but still, beginning of spring isn’t supposed to be so COLD!!! grrrrr….

  17. It’s the opposite of cold here. Wow, that was intelligent sounding. My point was, it got up to 90 last week. Gahhh.
We skipped spring and went straight into summer.

I got up this morning and checked where the sun was rising so that I would know where exact east was! I picked out some landmarks. If I stand in my treehouse, it’s exactly between two distant trees on the other bank of the dry riverbed-wash slash gorge thing. (about a quarter mile away)

  21. I reckon Spring starts when the daffodils appear. Trouble is, they all came out this year, looking bright and perky, and it snowed. You could tell they were disgruntled. They had that ruffled air, like a freshly raggeted wung. Now it’s gone grey and drizzly (we spell grey with an e over here because it’s more vague than American Gray), and the daffs just don’t know what to do about it. Heaven hlep the tulips if the weather’s stil playing these sort of tricks in a couple of weeks. I think I’m going to declare a series of micro-springs, interspersed with winterlets and quasi-autumnal episodes. That should cover it.

  22. 31 – That happened at my house!!! We had daffodils on our front lawn, they bloomed real early cause it was nice and warm, and then it snowed on them!!! And snow is quite a rarity in my town, we get it only about once every other year.

  23. It was warm earlier… then it got all wet and rainy…

Ha, today I was going back into the band room to give Mr. Cantu the check for solo/ensamble accompaniments to give to my accompanist, and Kristain asked what the weaiter was like outside(tennis, they have to do things outside. Poor them. At least with girls tennis we got to do it while it was warmish in the fall and no snow on the ground. they had to run laps in the hallways for a few weeks) and I told him I thought it would be nice out, but I hadn’t gone outside yet. It was pouring rain. Remind me never to become a meteorologist.
