The latest version of our chess software has an option for bigger boards (with squares 48 pixels wide instead of the usual 32). We’re giving it a try. Let us know how you like it. If the boards are too big now, we can go back to the smaller ones.
(There’s a sample below the fold.)

Ooh! Me gusta.
It’s kind of awkward, and I don’t like how the icon things are below the board.
We have no control over the icons, I’m afraid — those changed with the software. Would you like to see what the smaller board looks like?
I like it a lot- this explains why the chessboard vanished the entire morning for me. The big board somehow makes it easier to think. The icons still work.
So far, Piggy and bookgirl like the larger size, and Ducky doesn’t like it.
Now, for comparison, I’ve shrunk it back to the old 32×32-pixel size and tweaked the format a little. I still can’t get those icons to fall in the right place. Somehow I think we’ll be seeing another update soon…
Uh, now it looks like it’s all been squished betwixt d and e.
Really? Not in my browser. I’ll take it back to 48×48.
Now it looks the same, just bigger.
(I love how you didn’t flinch when I used “Betwixt”!)
So you’re saying it doesn’t look like a chessboard?
The vertical length is fine, but the horizontal length is 1/8 it’s supposed to be.
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the board? And Enceladus, what operating system and browser (and version thereof) are you using?
Operating system: Windows XP
Browser: Most recent Internet Explorer.
By the way, the board shows up fine in my outdated Mozilla Firefox.
Yet another reason why IE is cake. Everything’s hunky-dory in Chrome and on my iPod.
I like them bigger except the icons on the bottom like Ducky said.
Oops, I didn’t realize it saves the moves
Never mind that.
