First post?
Who can define “squaliform”?
Squaliform adj. : Resembling a shark or dogfish. ( according to Google)
I meant, who knows what it means without using Google or anything else.
Oh…….. Next time I’ll remember that.
Can anyone define “disestablishinteriorism”.
I think this is spelled right. My spell check didn’t do anything.
I believe you mean “disestablishmentarianism” (A search on Google for what you asked requlted in no responses, very unlikely)
Disestablishmentarianism- Being against an established Church. That was a simple one.
Now, here’s a harder one- What does the word “wan” mean?
pale, drawn, tired
You got that from our summer reading (probably). NOT FAIR.
How about this: zanana? Do you know what it means? (No dictionaries or Google allowed.)
I never get stuff from summer reading, I always know it to begin with.
Yes I do meant that. I forgot the anti-.
Antidisestablishmentarianism is not being for being against having an established Church or religion.
being for the disestablishment of the Church in England, at least originally.
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog question:
What is Dr. Horrible’s ring tone?
The beginning of the Bad Horse song. Unless that was the psychic influence of the cowboys.
Some fairly easy history trivia:
1) What killed Attila the Hun?
2) What did the name “Dracula” mean? (Hint: Vlad’s nickname)
3) What was Attila the Hun’s trademark (outside of warmongering and murder)?
4) What does 666 actually stand for?
5) Who was it who was reported to have 20000 bodies on his front lawn at on time?
1. Me?
2. I’m guessing “impaler”.
3. Fathering an incredibly large percentage of the human race.
4. It’s the symbol of the beast. There are hundreds of theories about who it stands for, but we’ll never know for sure. Well, not until the Apocalypse, anyway.
5. Me?
5) I would say Vlad the Impaler.
Dracula means “Son of the Dragon”, I know that.
Do you mean the theories that 666 may possibly be a coded dig at the Emperor Nero?
1) He got drunk, fainted, got a nosebleed, and choked on his own blood.
KaiYves, Beedle the Bard, and Ambystoma are correct! *gives one chocolate pie each*
Piggy is not! *pies in face with rotten tuna pie*
I got 3 and 4 right!
3. That was not his trademark. It was something he did, but he was not as renowned for it, and he did not use it to scare his enemies.
4. You told me what it currently symbolizes, not what it stands for.
Then what does 666 stand for?
My full name, of course: Robert Joseph Coontz — three parts, six letters each. Who did you think was running MuseBlog?
I though it was run by ideas:
And Hillary Rodham Clinton is a 767 jet.
See post 4.3, Kai was correct.
What a remarkable coincidence! I was on a TV quiz show today.
Like Jeopardy?
Sort of, except with more variation. It is specific to one state (the one I live in), and high schools of said state compete in an elimination-based tournament. We played well, but lost 140 to 330; the other team’s genius captain got about 95% of his team’s correct answers.
6-cool!
What should you always do when picking up a frog?
Where is a big bad jellyfish wanted?
In a big bad sea turtle’s mouth.
Continuing the “horrible history” category…
I was born on February 26, 1993. What else happened that day in New York City?
The World Trade Center was bombed, right?
Something tells me your not American. That was September, 11 2000.
SFTDP Oops. I am wrong, sorry Piggy. I misread your post. You said bomb, and right when I posted I remembered the bombing.
And it was 2001, not 2000.
Piggy is from Nebraska…
No Piggy’s American. I think he’s talking about a different bombing that occured. (Which I have heard of.) And they occured September 11, 2001. Not 2000.
Jinx!
Ack! Fine, delete your comment.
Were you talking to me? I deleted mine after two others showed up because that seemed to be too much piling on.
Yes, that was directed at you. But I believe that jinxing holds true even if one of the comments is retrozapped. That’s my philosophy, anyway. *can’t think straight, for some reason* *apologizes if he seems illogical or full of non sequiturs*
Oh, indeed, according to the Marchioness of Queasyfairy Rules, a jinx remains valid regardless of retrozapping, even when retrozapping was not intended as a dodge.
Yes, that’s correct. It’s rather disconcerting to look at the Times cover from the next day and realize that was my first full day alive. I suppose I got off to a bad start.
I feel dumb right now.
What words use double ‘u’s?
For example, vacuum.
“Continuum”. “Triduum”. Um… that’s all I can think of.
Weltanschauung, muumuu, a lot of others…
I meant english words. And oh noes, there were 42 posts before I posted this…
Hmm… I’ll do a few historical ones:
1. Which three women were organized the “petticoat plot” (and who started the ensuing war and called it thus)?
2. In which country was Catherine the Great born?
3. What was the name of the princess who was supposed to mary Louis the 16, what relation was she to the princess who did mary him and why didn’t she?
Hint: All the questions are from roughly the same time period.
Catherine the Great was German-born, and her birth name was Sophie.
(I don’t know the others, it’s been a while since I’ve read The Royal Diaries books, but I could probably have told you then. .)
From what is explicitly written in the Constitution, which of the following does Congress NOT have the power to do?
A) Grant titles of nobility.
B) Issue letters of marque to privateers.
C) Create patents.
Grant titles of nobility.
Who knows what national holiday it is today? (The 30th)
National Candy Corn Day!
Yayyy! I honored it by eating a Reese’s peanut butter cup out of one of the eleven bags of candy my mom bought.
True or false: “Elven” is a word.
I would say it is a word. I am going to guess what the definition might be
elven. adj. Being or pertaining to elves i.e. An elven cloak/He is elven
What happened on this day in 1938?
Klangfarbenmelodie
Definitions, please? (I know the answer, no Google unless you’re desperate)
17~ It translates to “color tone melody” and it’s the musical technique of using multiple instruments trading off to play the melody line instead of one voice having the lead. Not desperate, it’s one of my favorite words.
