Place your presents under or on the gift tree for the Gift Exchange.
Note: this thread is only for posting gifts. All other comments or discussion should be on the Holiday Party thread. When it’s time to reveal the contents, they will be posted here as well.
Describe the outside appearance of your gift. (Wrapping paper, size, general shape, what it sounds like when shaken…however you’d like to describe it.)
Suggestion: make sure you keep track of your gift and its description, so you don’t risk forgetting what you gave.
Dressed in all black, I quickly place my present under the tree and leave. It is a smallish box, about 3″ by 5″ by 6″, but it is wrapped in deep red shimmery paper and tied with a silver bow. The box nearly glows, for some odd reason. The tag says: To any MuseBlogger, who I hope will use it well. If shaken, a small rattling sound can be heard.
I deposit my gift under the tree. It is a simple, yet intricately carved wooden box, about a foot square, in the shape of a log cabin. There is no wrapping paper, simply a small, six inch door opened by ringing the doorbell. When shaken, it produces a gentle tinkling sound, reminiscent of snowy days in front of the fire. It weighs almost nothing, and is just the kind of thing most people would use as a mantle decoration. It also fits quite nicely under the tree.
If I am allowed to place two, I shall.
(This gift wasn’t picked last year, so let’s hope that changes this time…)
The gift I leave under the tree is wrapped in paper with a geometric square pattern. The box is aromatic and the contents are fragile.
It weighs two pounds, four ounces.
A tag says: I’m tasty.
On the flip side: To a muser who likes (______)*.
*font on the tag in the parentheses is written in white.
((Castle: I don’t see why not, it was done last year))
Is this the one where someone said “The Beatles” last year? I swear I just saw it on the old thread.
I ninja my way in, and place my package behind the tree in a dusty corner. The wrapping seems to be pure shadow, and it gives off an aura of being very old and very, very dangerous. It is about 12″x12″x4″, and a shimmering black bow tops the whole thing. On it, white letters appear, seemingly projected. They read: “To the Muser who is always on Santa’s Naughty list, may you do many bad things with this gift.”
[Picking post 4-The Ninja!]
I make my over and cackle manically. “Oh, yessssssss!”
As I pull apart the bow, it reveals…
I slowly and inconspicuously (in my mind, at least) walk over to the tree under the pretense of looking at the ornaments. I bend over with the gift behind my back to look at one of the bottommost stars. It really is quite beautiful; I find myself examining it for quite a while, but then remember about being inconspicuous. I gently set down my gift deep under the branches of the tree.
~~~
It’s a medium-sized box wrapped with snowy-white birch bark and tied with a section of ivy twisted with reeds. The bow on the top is embellished with vividly colored shells and smooth beach glass. It smells lovely and earthy, like a walk in the woods on an autumn afternoon. A quiet ruffling will be emitted if shaken, but doing so is not advised. The simple tag reads “May your year be full of growth and bounty” in a scrawl of midnight blue ink.
I place my gifts underneath the tree. On of the packages is wrapped in a dark brown velvet, tied with a black silk ribbon. It is about four inches square, and a few inches tall. The other package is wrapped in taped red matte paper, crimped on each edge. It is as thick as the other gift, but is longer than its width. The two have no tags.
This gift has not been placed here by anyone, nor has anyone created it. It has simply appeared in one of the darker recesses of the gift tree, a feat easily accomplished when there are not many people watching the tree yet. It has a black wrapping, and a black bow that seem to suck the light out of everything around it. It is very light and very small, and there is no tag. It sits in the back, hoping to be forgotten.
I place a flat, rectangular gift under the tree. It’s covered in tan wrapping paper decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphics and tied with a simple white bow. The tag reads “For those who agree with Emily Dickinson about the best Frigate for sailing to Lands Away- may your spirit of adventure guide you well in the New Year.”
I hum a bit and then, with a flick of my left hand, a simple metal(? it appears as such) box appears under the tree-about two feet high, wide, and long; with airholes poked all over the top. There’s a muffled sound coming from within, as well as an occasional light thumping sound.
The card attached is in a pretty little purple velvet slip, and the card itself is black with white cursive writing.
To Whoever Happens To Receive My Gift:
?Trust me, you will be happy.? It is a very sweet thing, and quite definitely alive: so take care, darlings~
I set the present down under the tree, smiling at it. The note on it reads, “Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.”
“Merry Christmas,” I say, and walk away.
I walk over to the tree and place a gift under it. It is wrapped in black paper and is cube-shaped. I shake it, making sure that nothing can be heard. Good. I wrapped it well.
The tag on it reads:
“For the person with a world inside of them, and is ready to let it show.”
I would like to choose this gift.
The gift I place under the tree is a large box, about the size of a toaster, made of ebony wood. Each side has an intriguing carving depicting a dreamlike, fantastical setting. The top has a gemstone set into it. It glimmers in many mesmerizing colors and is carved in an almost hypnotic pattern. The box is locked and makes no sound when shaken. A tag reads For a Muser who appreciates variety and doesn’t mind taking risks.
The gift I place under the tree is huge, about 100 feet by 100 feet. It makes different noises when shaken, and occasionally no noise at all. The appearance of the gift is always changing, and sometimes you hear it growling, grunting, making other noises, and sometimes even talking. The tag reads “For someone who likes change.”
Can we begin choosing presents?
If so, I choose:
Post 13, “A gift…”, please.
I choose Post 7, Le Cadeau Silencieux, if I may.
Thank you for choosing my present!
When you open the box, all you see is a small fragment of glass. you pick it up, and it’s edges are smooth and round, and all together safe. Looking into it, you can see hundreds of stars, like you were flying through space. The shard of glass expands until it is nearly the size of a computer screen, and you discover buy pushing and pulling on the sides of the glass, you can change it’s shape.
In short: It is a star window, an ancient relic from a lost civilization. It shows you a view of space, and can change size to fit whatever window frame you want. It can never be broken.
I’d like to choose Post 9, from Scarfmasked.
Ooops, sorry, I posted before your comment was moderated! Okay, I choose post five (Mistletoe) then.
I claim you please, Post 9 gift. (Scarfmasked)
I’ll go for The Ninja, post four.
[Hiiiiiiii! Mikazuki, I’ve got an offer for you! Do you want this gift instead?]
@Shadowfire:
As you open the gift, there’s a faint meowing sound from inside. You open it to find…a four-eyed kitten?
OKAY WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS
There’s a note tied around the little kitten’s collar. You open and read it.
Hiiiiiiii~! Hmmm…I’m Scarfmasked, but call me Rose! Anyways.
This is Mutie. She’s an ectobiolokitten. She’s a normal cat, but has four eyes, two smaller ones above her normal ones! She’s still about three months old (I’m not sure, ectobiology is fairly unusual with aging), and is very friendly! If you put on the scarf contained in the box- you pause, look around, and notice a large silver scarf with purple tassels wrapped up in the corner of the box- she’ll definitely roll over and start playing in the end. Anyways, just have fun~!
~Rose
@Mikazuki: moving towards the gift, you notice that shadowfire appears to have claimed it. Not to worry, though! There’s another gift of similar appearance, but it’s much larger! These are the differences that you now note…
1. The card is done over in a pretty little shade of blue, with candycorn-colored designs. It now states, in what appears to be the writing of a ten-year-old in olive; oh, hello! call me nep, okay? this is a special gift for you! i think whoever picks it up will like it-it’s very similar to rose’s gift in many ways! that’s why the box is the same! just a warning: this isn’t for the sort of person who would say sw33t; as that’s too skatery for this gift! <3 hope you like.
2. There’s…rust-colored chalk drawings on this crate. What even, ‘Nep’, what even.
3. This is probably at least a few times the size of the other one; large enough to contain something tall enough to reach up to a fullgrown adult human’s waist!
4. The sounds coming aren’t as loud.
Do you open it or not?
Thanks Rose!
I’ll have to draw Mutie now. She’s adorable… Happy holidays!
I choose gift number 10, from Francis Pharcellus.
19- Thanks! Yes, I open the gift, instead of the one I was going to.
As you pull open the gift, there’s a moment of trepidation as you wonder what it contains. It turns out to be…
a white cat.
But this one is larger than a fully-grown dalmation, fluffy in a subdued sort of way, and has two mouths.
Again, there’s a piece of paper wrapped around her olive collar. Good thing the cat is sleeping, as you can pull it out.
this is pounce de leon! she likes exploring and playing. in a different universe, her owner would ride her and adventure, until pounce got tired and rode her-which was frequently! : )) anyways! just be nice to pounce de leon, all right? thanks. you can rename her if you want, but pounce is a young adult cat, so it may take longer to have her respond!
~nep
AWWW! *adorableness* Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!! *hugs* *hugs Pounce de Leon*
Underneath the wrapping paper is a globe, which at first appears to be black. But at closer examination, it appears that there are tiny points of light dancing deep inside, and when examined even closer, it can be seen that they are not points of light at all, but tiny galaxies, spiral and elliptical and irregular, floating deep in the darkness of space. When two fingers are placed on the globe and pulled outward, the globe expands, making the vision of the galaxies larger. When another finger is placed on the outside of the globe and pulled, the picture moves to a different part. Essentially, it is a working model of the entire universe.
Oh, I love it! Thank you so much, Francis!
*Hugs with great intensity*
There’s a new gift placed under the tree, all of a sudden.
You have no clue what it is.
Because it’s covered in MIRACLES.
[tl;dr: gift covered in rainbows that hurt your eyes. About the size of an oven and sparkling like a madthing. Bits of a green nonnewtonian substance cover it, and there’s no card.]
Can I have gift number 7, please?
JW already chose it. But in the shadows, you find another one essentially the same.
When you open the box, all you see is a small fragment of glass. you pick it up, and it’s edges are smooth and round, and all together safe. Looking into it, you can see hundreds of stars, like you were flying through space. The shard of glass expands until it is nearly the size of a computer screen, and you discover buy pushing and pulling on the sides of the glass, you can change it’s shape.
Could post 13, “A gift…” please tell me what it is?
Would whomever posted under “A gift…” please come tell what the gift is?
“A Gift…” was me.
When you open the gift, the box is entirely empty. Looking inside, you end up falling in, since the box is 100′ x 100′. People frantically try to get you out, but no one can tip the huge box over. Before you know it, you feel yourself being lifted up. As you look down, there’s a giant monkey under you.
Wait… did en just grow lizard ears? Now they’re gone! Ens eyes just turned brown. And now en looks more like a bear than a monkey. Wait – now en’s a dragon? A lion?
The gift was a shapeshifting pet. You can name en whatever you want, and en has a psychic link with you. En will turn into anything or anyone you want. Nothing is unchangeable, including species, attributes, and gender.
Awesome! Thanks!
You are welcome.
I choose gift 12 “Anonymous Gift”. I wonder what it is.
As you pick up the box, a key appears in your hand. You find that it fits the lock on the box. Inside the box is a note.
This is a charm box. Any item placed inside for a day or longer will be imbued with random magical powers. There’s no way to control what comes out, though, so be careful. Almost anything can fit, as the box is bigger on the inside.
Taking out the note, the writing on it disappears, and it begins to glow. You wonder what its properties are now…
Cool, thank you!
Shadowfire, could you please tell me what the gift I chose was?
