  1. New year, new thread, new repost to begin the final push for a virtual Yuri’s Night party!

    I think that MB should hold a virtual Yuri’s Night party in April of 2011. Seeing how much resistance there was to a Moon Landing Day party in the summer, I realize a late March-early April party is never going to be approved unless it’s a one-time thing that never happens again. Thus, as this year is the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight, I feel it should be the one time this party takes place.

    IMPORTANT: all ideas which follow are subject to suggestion, criticism, change, and evolution and none should be considered to be set in stone…

    Who: Any MuseBloggers who wish to attend. If you wish to assume the persona of a technician, astronaut, or spy or just create some sort of backstory for yourself, you’re welcome, but it’s not mandatory.

    When: March 20th to April 17th, 2011.

    Where: On the Yuri’s Night thread. Within the classic Muse Academy ballroom, decorated to resemble a room aboard Space Station Odyssey in all ways possible.

    Food: TBD

    Décor: 2001: A Space Odyssey is the general reference. 2011 as seen by 1961. A large ballroom entered through sliding doors in the Star Trek fashion. Models and framed photographs showing the highlights of spaceflight and SF in the past 50 years decorate the room. (Yes, lots of gorgeous Hubble shots) “In-story”, we are aboard a rotating space station, and large “windows” (Perhaps floor-to-ceiling) will show the rest of the station, the Earth below, the moon and stars, and every now and then, shuttles and cargo ships flying up to dock with the station. (The windows being just TV screens and all of this being stock footage or CGI.) Perhaps announcements over a PA periodically to announce the “dockings”.

    Music: A live band, playing a mix of 60s classics, New Age electronica, and any other favorites requested. Any MBer who wishes to drop in and play with the band may.

    Dress: Futuristic formal. Black suits and ties, glow-in-the-dark dresses, neatly pressed jumpsuits, shirtsleeves with pocket protectors and skinny ties, Starfleet dress uniform, and the like. Go for a 60s feel, but nothing too hippie.

    The goings-on: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s pioneering spaceflight, and the completion of Space Station Odyssey, various distinguished employees from the space agencies of the world have been invited to enjoy a civilized evening of dancing, music, intelligent conversation, and Earthwatching. (Binoculars provided at windows by wungs.) But keep on your toes, as befits the anniversary of such a prominent Cold War event, espionage and intrigue are in the air…

      1. Sorry, Piggy! How could I forget my favorite barkeep? It was an accident when I was pasting into the comment box.

        Although, by your interest, I take it you’re in favor of the party, in which case I can add you to the top third of the list?

        Same goes for you, POSOC.

    1. Yes, the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first human being to travel into outer space in 1961.

  6. I have been noticing that a lot of MuseBloggers do D&D or want to play. I personally play D&D, Jadestone said in the R&R thread that she does, POSOC and Ebeth said on January random thread part 2 that they do, and Piggy recently said on this month’s random thread that he would like to play (though he probably meant the real game).

    Therefore, I propose a Muse D&D RPG thread. No dice rolling or character sheets, just an RPG that follows the layout of D&D. I could post all the relevant rules, classes, races, etc. We could have a DM (Dungeon master-person who moderates the game, for those who don’t know), but I don’t think it would be necessary, and it would be more fun just to have a standard RPG with the D&D rules. Pleeeeease? :P

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. I don’t think I’d want to play a free-form RPG with what is, when all’s said and done, basically a bog-standard high fantasy setting. If we’re not limited by the rules, then there are all sorts of more interesting things to do.
        Yes, I know I backed up the original idea… but part of what I like about D&D is the freedom to build one’s own world and characters within the framework of the rules. If we toss out the framework, why not just build our own world and characters without any of the prior assumptions that the D&D system implies?
        Also, the GAPAs have turned down RPGs based on copyrighted material (Harry Potter, etc) before.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
    1. Thirded. I play D&D too (although…now I don’t. I should say I used to.) and I think that it’d be a fun thing to do.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  7. Piggy-D&D is quite complex when you follow all of the regular rules of combat, magic, etc, there are many rules regarding concealment, cover, armor, accuracy, items, skills, and most of them involve dice (I have read all core 3.5 rulebook cover to cover, the thing you saw on community was Advanced D&D, which was an earlier version. There is also a v4.0, but I don’t like it as much as 3.5, so I stuck with 3.5).
    However, that’s not what I’m proposing. I want to go with the layout of D&D, not the specific actions. It would be pretty much as POSOC said, a bog-standard fantasy RPG-which I don’t think would be a bad thing in itself anyway. Having a set of guidelines for how you can make your character and what en can do though, I think would make for a very enjoyable RPG.
    POSOC-It is true that the restrictions would not be as big and with as many fun add-ons. Making characters would be somewhat less personalizeed than the real game. Only the DM makes the world anyway, so I don’t see that being a big problem. I am also not proposing we toss out the framework of making characters-just all the dice rolling and deep specifics. It would not be as good as the real system, but I personally believe it would still be fun. I don’t know about the copyrighted material thing. I wouldn’t copy paste the rules, I would definitely paraphrase, but I don’t know if that helps

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. I’m just saying that dice rolling for everything isn’t that practical on a blog. Instead of saying, “I rolled a 14 plus my BAB of +6 and my strength of 4 equals 24, so thats a hit” we could just estimate how often we should be hitting and how much damage we have taken. And instead of rolling for stats, we can just average, like fighters would have high strength and barbarians have low intelligence. We won’t be using the dice, but we will still have the framework of the rules and the stats behind them will be estimated.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
      2. Well, a lot of people would view the golden age of D&D as being one of the earliest versions, which the creator advertised as almost pure imagination and innovation of gameplay, not dice rolling and books full of rules.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
        1. D&D is about imagination and creativity, in its rawest form. I think the creators wanted to bring order to the game, so they created all those rules, but it would be nice just to let go of most of the rules regarding combat and dice roles and all that stuff and just let imagination flow, which is why I think this thread is a good idea.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. Then why not go the whole hog and toss out races, classes and monsters too? I can enjoy a game of D&D, and I can enjoy a free-form RPG invented completely from scratch. I just don’t see the point of something in between.

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. Re- D&D thread suggestion: OK, I have to agree. The main thing separating D&D from any sort of free form imaginative gameplay is the d20 system, which clearly isn’t really possible on the blog (well, it is, but it will slow down gameplay quite a bit), so why not just make a sort of freeform RPG? I mean, feel free to take classes and races and things from D&D itself, but I don’t think there’s a point to unnecessarily tacking on ‘D&D’ as its name, if it’s not going to include the d20 system.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0
          2. I guess maybe what you’re saying you want is a game in the style of a blog RPG crossed with D&D, in that people control their own characters and the Dm controls the world and NPCs, but no rules as specific as in D&D? That seems a bit silly and I don’t think it would work as well as you’re imagining, no offense intended. Sorry.

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. Sudo-No, I don’t want a DM controlling any NPCs or the world. (see my first post-I think I said that already) I think that this would work as a normal MuseBlog RPG, just adding on the D&D classes, races, monsters, etc, since lots of people are already familiar with them. This will make it into a basic RPG for muse except more controlled because there are limits on how powerful your character can be, etc. I think it would make a good fantasy RPG.

              Giminator- What you are saying makes sense, but what I wanted with the D&D RPG was more control and limits on how people make their characters. If there was a fantasy RPG without limits on characters, there could end of being one person that is ridiculously powerful and controls the adventure and another person that gave enself a miniscule power that amounts to nothing. I think incorporating the D&D rules would limit that and give people an idea of how to make their characters.

              I’m sorry I haven’t been specific enough with my intentions. I guess I should have made my idea clearer in the first place.

        1. The actual Luddites were active in the 1810s, before Victoria was born. And they targeted only spinning and weaving mills, which threatened their jobs; they wouldn’t have cared about airships. But a later incarnation of the movement in your steampunk timeline could have revived the name, of course.

    2. I was a bit annoyed at that. I’ve been working on my country for literally years, and I was permanently deleted without so much as a warning or a preliminary punishment. I can’t find a solid list of rules of NationStates anywhere, so I don’t know whether what I did was actually prohibited or not. Nothing I mentioned was private information–he himself put it on the internet.

      In any case, it’s not a huge deal. I was planning on abandoning Piglonia soon anyway.

      Also: I doubt the GAPAs will grant you this thread. It’s discussion of websites other than MuseBlog, which is against the rules.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
          1. That thread was made when external discussion wasn’t as dangerous. MuseBlog has grown, and we’ve had to adjust our rules to fit our expansion.

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
          2. The thread was started to head off discussion that was taking over the Random Thread. It became a problem because MBers couldn’t resist trying to pass along information about how to find each other on NS. That amounts to providing off-blog contact information, which is strictly against the rules. In retrospect perhaps the thread shouldn’t have been created in the first place, but MB was only a few months old then and many valuable lessons had yet to be learned.

            [Didn’t see Piggy’s comment until after I posted.]

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. Wait, but doesn’t NationStates have rules about personal information, similar to MB? And our region is password-protected …

              Squid 0
              1. It’s off-blog contact, and telegrams can’t be monitored. I suggest you accept the position that the GAPAs have made clear numerous times.

  18. Not really sure where to put this, but–GAPAs? April 15 (this year, it varies) is National Day of Silence, which is an (to quote the flyer I just made for school) “event for students to raise awareness against anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment in schools. Anyone can participate by taking some form of a vow of silence for the day. This event is a great opportunity to show support for those around the country who aren’t always able to be comfortable being and expressing themselves due to fear of emotional or physical harm.” I was wondering if we could put it on the calendar?

  20. What if we had a Futuristic Dystopia RPG? In the future, an evil anti-Muser organization has taken over most of the world, crushed all forces of creativity and learning, and created a Cakesaccharine World where mind control reigns and those who don’t conform to society mysteriously vanish. Only a small band of rebels, the Kokonspiracy, have escaped the brainwashing and are plotting to overthrow the evil government and free the masses.

  24. A ‘redo’, of sorts, of Bunny Apocalypse? A lot of us original roleplayers in that have improved vastly, and it was the best RP on the site during the time it was active. BA:TNG wasn’t quite so good, character overflow hit it hard.

    What I’m requesting is a reboot of BA, where we can start out with the base of the original RP and most of the same characters-but let the people who weren’t around join, and see how much we’ve all improved in our writing.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. It ran fast, it ran well, and for a bunch of teenagers writing a story it was really good. I’d like to see what we could do with our improvements.

        Squid 0
    3. I’ve been having that same idea. The whole Bunny Apocalypse RPG was really awesome. Now that it’s dying, I think it would be great to redo it, but all new characters, all new setting, all new plot. 38.2- Yeah, I’m not the greatest writer either, but RPing is helping me improve somewhat. I was just thinking that after we wrap up BATNG we should start over.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. BA:TNG didn’t work, we lost the idea somewhere and got a metric ton of characters that nobody could remember and a bunch of us thought that being 28 meant that you couldn’t be awesome anymore.

        Start out with new characters (or even revised, more realistic, less perfect versions), work with the basic plot, and run from there.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0

          Squid 0
            1. No, we’re retelling the original BA. Not BATANG. It’s like we’re retconning everything that happened in those threads.

              We’re…rewinding it? I like that word. Bunny Apocalypse: Rewind (or perhaps replace Rewind with Reboot)?

            2. TNG brings memories of children. When I was half-asleep earlier I was thinking “Bunny Apocalypse 2.0” but that was earlier. “BA Reboot” would be fine, since BA:TNG makes me think a redo of post-BA world. So the absence of the TNG would be better.

                  I’d hope we don’t go by our blognames quite so much, at least: we can have Rainbow, or Storm, but not Rainbow*Storm. I’m hoping for a bit of realism with the names, of a sort.

        BA was the most epic RPG we ever had on here, I think. BA:TNG was… meh. I’m not sure if we could pull off another BA — it consisted mostly of randomness and not overmuch planning, which I think worked well when we had a bunch of younger kids and a few older ones to keep the plot semi-stabilized — but still, it would be interesting to try.

  25. So, a while back, I was trying to think up hypothetical book titles that would grab a reader’s attention and “I Saved The Titanic” popped into my head.

    So, I thought, you know, that could be a whole series. “I Saved The Hindenburg”, “I Saved Pompeii”, “I Saved Lincoln”, “I Saved Apollo 1”, etc. Then I thought about the discussion we’d had in the Alternate History thread about different ways of creating the same result by changing history and similar discussions I’d seen on other websites.

    And then I got the amusing idea of students at a Time Travelers’ Academy giving presentations to their teachers on the plans they had made for how they would go about doing each of those things, with the creator of the winning presentation being allowed to travel back in time and carry it out, creating an alternate universe.

    And THEN I thought, since it was inspired by Internet discussions, it would be fun to actually have it play out as a semi-RPG with groups of MBers being the students and working out such plans before presenting them in a final form for “approval”.

    A plan would be judged based on:
    – The odds that the plan actually will work.
    – The odds that the plan actually will work and not create even worse consequences down the line.
    – The odds that the plan actually will work without injury or harm coming to members of your time-traveling party.
    – The amount of dumb luck needed to get it to work.
    – If revealing that you are a time traveler/knowledge of the future/future technology is required.
    – The complexity and cost of getting the plan to work. (The cost of the time travel is not factored in, but having to rent out an entire restaurant for a night would be, or having to hire assassins in the time period.)
    – Whether the plan actually prevents the disaster from happening or simply leaves the door open for the same flaw to create another disaster later on.

From there it’s pretty much a logic-free Random Events Plot with tons of plagiarizing and pointless cameos from as many fandoms as possible. And of course a love triangle that eats half the plot, preferably one where the two love interests have slightly different looks and the exact same personality.

I was taking every class, even Calculus which is only meant for seniors, but I’m a freshman who skipped 7th and 8th grade but I still look like at least a junior. 33. This is a somewhat fuzzy idea/concept for a thread/RPW, so please bear with me: lately, as I was reminiscing, I thought of two things: one, the blog seems a little more serious lately and two, somehow most of the Musiverse establishments don’t seem to be around anymore. So I was thinking of creating a new RPW/RRR Life in Museica. Posts would be written in mainly in past tense, sort of like the we recount our lives on the random thread, except that they must be entirely fictional. Metaphors to represent the events currently preoccupying us are permissible though. They can be anything; random poems, zany anecdotes, poetic descriptions of the countryside. As long as it’s not the time-old somewhat stale RPG-typical conversations: you don’t have to interact with others at all. It should be a sort of mosaic of the lives we would live in Museica and the more different the stories are, the better to read. Not to say that it should be all fancy and poetic-like and “deep”. Everyone lives in whatever type house they want (sort of like the Reclusive Gardens). All the old Musiverse-related establishments exist there as well, people could “put out fliers” or “put an ad in the paper” for a thread that exists already, such as the H&H or a nautical vacation on Ship’s Logs, or discuss things from threads that are pretty much dead, like the Museican government with GM elections for example or Muse Academy classes (there should be a Muse University as well). It wouldn’t be as fast-paced, but people could post events independently (example: someone describes the flowers in their garden while someone else is running for GM of Kokopelli). It would all be very idyllic, not as repetitive as RPGs and much looser. Also, no nesties and no pie/squids.

        The Constitution of the Pie Flingers of Kokino County

        Preamble:

        A draft of the Constitution of the PFKC stating the rules of the thread and the goals of the opposing sides, as well as deciding who joins which side, and a roster page for members and teams.

        Article I:

        The goal of this proposed thread is to give competitive and/or fun-loving bloggers a place specifically for unleashing their pie-flinging side, albiet with some rules that were absent before Prohibition of the Pie Wars.

        Article II:

        The Game, rules.

        Section I, The Game:

        1. The Pie War thread shall consist only of two teams. No more than two teams may be present at one time, and a team shall not be cast aside by an aspiring leader to make room for his/her own team. This meaning that there shall be two constant teams until the point where the administrators may decide it is no longer an agreeable option.

        1.5. Neither of the teams shall carry the name of the Legacy Teams from the Old Pie War, Zemtee and the Prancing Unicorn Slayers. However, subdivisions within the command line of the teams may be named after the two. Take, for example, the U.S. Army. A subdivision of the U.S. Army are the U.S. Army Rangers. In this way, a subdivision may be named after a Legacy Team or division, i.e. [Team name] Unicorn Slayers.

        2. The two teams will begin the thread in a state of peace, and are given as much time as they need to establish a leadership system under the team leaders and to gather the minimum number of combatants per side to begin, this number being five (5). 4 shall not be an acceptable starting number, nor shall 3. 2 is right out.

        3. The Pie War thread shall be administrated. The GAPAs will have the power to banish any team member they wish from the thread if said player breaks the rules – see Section II.

        4. Once the Pie War thread has been started, there will be a new thread monthly. Each thread’s main focus shall be on a different type of pie – hence, a September thread would be named “Pie War – Rhubarb, YYYY.M” with Y being the current year and M the month. Each month/flavor/type will be considered a single battle in the war, and will have a start (the start of a fresh monthly thread) and an ending, by detonation of a large weapon by the GAPAs. This ensures that neither side will win or lose to brag about how great they are.

        5. The teams shall be led by two bloggers, determined in whatever way the GAPAs see fit. However, neither leader has command over any of their subordinates. Leaders may not order other players around in any sort of bossy or nasty fashion. This is a semi-roleplaying thread, which means that while orders may be given for the sake of the roleplay, no player HAS to follow the order.

        6. The job of the team leaders is simply to form and recruit. On the battlefield in a non-roleplaying situation, the leaders have no command over their players. See above for rules regarding roleplaying and orders.

        7. The two teams may be founded on a first-come basis, and leadership may be handed over to any blogger at any time by either leader. However, the team name shall still and should always be treated as the intellectual property (IP) of the team founder and should not be copied elsewhere.

        Section II – Rules:

        1. First and foremost the main rule. On the whole of MuseBlog this is an accepted rule, but due to the direct part this issue played in the demise of the Legacy Pie Wars. This issue is known as “flaming” and it is the act of being gratuitously or unnecessarily or offensively violent in a personal or semi-personal manner. While two or more players may create characters who are enemies, no two or more bloggers may take out any personal quarrel with the other via pie-ing or other forms of violence. This rule goes unwritten for all of MuseBlog, but for the Pie War it IS required.

        2. There shall be no usurping, in roleplay or otherwise. A player may not name himself leader over the founder of the team – power must be passed on as seen in Section I, and even then the power is not great or even good. It is all right, but nothing truly special.

        3. If a player does flame, they are given a warning. At the second offense, they are asked to tone it down and are asked to leave the Pie War thread for any amount of time the GAPA decided. At the third offense, the GAPA deciding the punishment may banish the player for any length of time they deem fit.

        4. There shall be no Great Ballistic *Nuclear* Spike Pies O’ Doom. Any weapon with potential fallout or potential to continue to damage the earth after deployment and detonation is outlawed and punishment will be dealt with as with flaming. However, at the end of each month’s thread/battle, one weapon of this kind may be used and a new battle will start on the new month’s battleground. The GAPAs may also allow use of the win/loss system in favor of the detonation of a large-scale pie weapon. Should a win/loss system be initiated, rules will be made via amendment for the conditions of a win or loss.

        5. Amendments may be made to this Constitution, but only by the GAPAs. A movement for an amendment may be initiated by a blogger on the Suggestion Box and voted on using the Pie/Yea Squid/Nay system and then passed or vetoed by the GAPAs.
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        What say you, GAPAs? I would like to form one of the two teams. I am not sure yet of the name, but for now I will call it [Untitled]. I am recruiting if a) the movement to create a new pie thread passes and b) the GAPAs allow me to found a team.
    I’ve got maps I drew, and I would like to send them in, but I thought I’d ask for a dedicated place to a) put them and b) talk about what to do next. Is this something you’d be interested in creating? I’ll send the maps your way.
    Squid 0
      1. I’m trying to find a way to clarify it.
        You know how we have RPGs and talk about places that exist within the universe we’ve created for ourselves? This would be a collection of data on those things that we’ve made, like maps or a list of countries or a list of Pie War team members from the old wars and the new ones. Maps with markers showing places where pie battle have been fought or RPGs have been played.
        A visual manifestation of things we’ve described. The act of taking text and turning it into images. So a Musiverse Databank, a place to put official musiverse canon and make things we’ve mentioned in the past (like a mountain in the Pie War threads) canon by putting a mark on a map. A depository of information that can be added to. Like Wookiepedia – the visual manifestation of Star Wars canon that can be edited as more canon is made.
        Musiverse Databank, Musipedia, Museiverse Canon…something along those lines.
            What Piggy said. That. But there has to be a vote on what’s canon/approved/an official part of the musiverse so that people can’t just add things at will. I’d like to be a little bit organized.
It could be called “The Illustrated Musiverse” — except that the Musiverse has developed many different strands with various degrees of overlap, and I’m not sure you’d ever get unanimous agreement on what is and isn’t “canonical.”
            1. Well, to begin with, there are the independent timelines visited by the Inter-Timeline Agency in the Alternate History RPW. All of those are distinct and separate universes. The question becomes how far in the future the ITA’s home base is, and if it’s the future of our universe, or one of some other one.
  42. I have a suggestion idea that is a writing idea, so perhaps it should be on a writing thread, but this is a suggestion box.
    My writing coach from Creative Arts camp has a blog for campers. On it she posts different writing activities or exercises for us to do and post. On of the best ones is called “Limited Dialogue”. She gave us 7 random sentences or phrases of dialogue and we had to create a short story with no other dialogue except for those seven phrases. It was a lot of fun. I wrote one last summer in two days and I am working on a second one now (it is taking a lot longer due to school).
    I was reminded of this exercise today because I realized that many of the things said of the Six Word Stories thread would make really good, random dialogue.
    So my suggestion is: a thread where you choose seven random, usable sentences from the Six Word Stories thread and then create a short story and post it.
    I have no clue if this idea is at all popular/interesting to anyone else. Thoughts?
    1. I’d really love it if that could happen; I’ve never been in a signature shirt before. I wasn’t even here when the last one was made.
  46. It would be cool if we could have a Curiostiy landing party thread. It would be nice to have somewhere to discuss its progression that’s not the random thread.
  47. Perhaps we could have a sort of goals/resolutions thread where muser post about ongoing, moderate-to-short term projects and their progress and motivate each other. Things like learning japanese, or moving out, or writing novels/short stories outside of NaNo season, or improving one’s juggling. For instance, this year I’m planning on getting my driver’s license, moving out, working towards a diving instructor license* and getting my first (A) sailing license. I know a lot of this sort of things/updates already take place on the random thread, but setting goals, hearing about other peoples’ progress and regularly reporting one’s own progress would be helpful motivation. Sort of like New Year’s Resolutions, except the whole bit about forgetting it all in February and laughing the next year when you’ve accomplished nothing.
    Anyone interested?
  48. GAPAs, the Rants & Plaints thread is almost a thousand comments long now, and it’s getting hard to load. Could we have another, pretty please?
  49. make another roleplay thread!!!
    those are soooo FUN!!!
    maybe a warrior cats-based one or something.
    1. Warrior cats-based one is unlikely to happen, since it’s probably too close to trademarked material.
      We actually have a whole lot of roleplay threads somewhere around, if you want to dig one up and revive it, I’ll be glad to help!
          or we could beg the GAPAs to make a new one
          like this…
          oh please all great and powerful administrators! hear our plea,
          for a roleplay thread we beg of thee!
          for pink bunnies or a pie war,
          for something fun we all wish for!
          for a thread based on adventure
          that is what we all wish for!
          but please GAPAs, just make a,
          thread for us if you really care!
  50. Again with the suggesting:
    What about a Random Craziness & Non Sequiturs thread? Just a place for pointless posts along the lines “Watermelon, Watermelon” or “The Short and Unfortunate Life of Fred the Stickman” short story that you scribbled in the margins of your Algebra textbook. In short, a place to blow off steam through bits of insanity for bored college students surrounded by serious people.
  51. Remember how the was a request sometime back for MB diplomacy? What about we partition up Museica into about 99 billion continents and play a free-for-all version with special muse rules until everyones’ brains are fried and we end up in a pie melee? Please tell me there are still people around interested in this.
    ((Oh, and if anyone misses a turn, their countries get taken over by the chaotic evil split-identity of the the muser two countries counterclockwise. Just saying.))
    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. How do we determine whose turn it is?
      Either way, I have a feeling there’ll be some… disagreement about who exactly is two countries counterclockwise of the one who missed ens turn. That may be the trigger for the inevitable pie melee: whose chaotic evil counterpart gets the leftover country.
      Anyway, I love your idea. I could make The Land Where Everybody Worships Tardigrades an actual thing! Then again, maybe I’d better wait for that, because if I do that as myself, I can’t imagine what my chaotic evil counterpart will have left to do if she gets a country.
      1. I’d stick to the original Diplomacy rules and just have all moves carried out simultaneously, and whoever misses too many is out. The counterclockwise should be possible since I figured Museica would look something like it does on RTH’s map. Of course, that only shows the nine provinces: further partitioning would obviously be required (and a few more rivers/lakes/bodies of water).
              1. Plus added backstabbing. Not that any of us would ever even briefly entertain the notion of such a thing, obviously.
        1. Oh, I didn’t realize Diplomacy was an actual game. I suppose I’ll have to look up the rules. *does so* Sounds fun!
          Judging by the rules, it sounds like we’re each playing as our evil counterpart, so I don’t have to wait around for mine to get a country. That’s nice.
          Anyway, as for the counterclockwise thing: I propose that nine people each pick one of the nine, and if others wants to play, they say which countries it lies between.
          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. I’d divide up the nine a little more so that we have more terrain to conquer as well: I think the other Diplomacy also starts out with unoccupied territories, so that the players can squabble over them and so that different starting points have different strategic opportunities.
            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. That’s fine with me, but we’d have to know how many people are playing to know how to divide them. I think it’s a given that if this becomes a thing, you and I are in, but other than that, I don’t know.
              As for unoccupied territories, how about all of those landmasses/islands shown on the map that are outside of Museica?
              Pie 0
              Squid 0
              1. That could work too. And yes, we should wait and see who else would join us before we start the dividing…
  52. Could we have a “Rearview Mirror” thread dedicated to our discoveries of older MB posts that take on a new meaning, comic, sad, or otherwise, in light of later events? (Robert’s prediction that Michael Jackson would be president, me writing an essay similar to “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” before it was published, etc.)
  53. Can we have a new polling place thread? The old one has more than 500 comments and is from 2011.
