Traggle would you mind greatly if I were to perhaps find you the first day since you have been b4?
Did anyone check out the website I posted on the random thread? I thought it was quite helpful, but made me scared. I have a feeling I’ve said this before…
7-What website?
CTY is a program where kids can go to summer camps to take courses at exelled paces. I went two years ago, and lost twenty pounds because I was so nervous. Be very thankful if you have good roommates. It was actually quite a lot of fun though.
Nope. i don’t do that but I might go to this Congressional Youth Council of Leadership thingy next year.
I’m going to CIRCUS camp. IT ROCKS! We’re doing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our show, and auditions were today. Will update if I get a part! If I don’t, i might get a cool aerial part.
In Sacramento, we have ATS(Academic Talent Search) It is basically the same thing, but I think Academic Talent Search sounds like a game show title. I took a class called Hero’s QUest last year on writing “epic novels.” This year I am taking a screenwriting class because I have always wondered how to get about to it.
CTY is Center for Talented Youth, more accurately described as nerd camp (though that term is officially banned, but that doesn’t stop us from using it)
I’m going to CTY at LMU (los Angeles) for logic (the humanities one) first session and game theory second session.
btw, CTYers should go to post-CTY-Depression, if the GAPAs will allow that….
My friend’s brother did TIP and he really enjoyed it. All these camps seem to be the exact same thing at different locations. Google Joseph Baldwin Academy and the website tells you pretty much everything about the camp. I find it more helpful thatn the CTY official site. The site is www. realcty. org and it is not the official one. It seems helpful.
I don’t know how I would find you, but I’l be the one with red hair back in a ponytail and a green shirt on. I would like to know about the buildings and stuff. Like at JBA (sorry I will reference this a lot) there are two dorms and the classes are in ifferent buildings. Are all the classes in the same building here? I am assuming there will be some sort of orientation at the beginning, correct? Also, I did not find the site packet thingy very helpful. Where do you go to sign in, get your dorm number, key, etc?
If I remember correctly, there were 7 or 8 dorms. And yes, there will be an orientation on the first day. After all the parents leave, you meet with everybody on your hall and take a tour of the campus. There are like three different buildings for classes, you’ll find out which one you’re in during the first day. I think sign-in is in the Holland Union Building, which is where the cafeteria is as well. At least that’s where it was in 05. I’m pretty sure that there are signs telling people where the sign-in is. And if you want to find me, I’ll probably be wearing a brown shirt that says “New Hampshire” on it.
Thank you! What is a FOB? We had a lanyard with our ID on it and we ued that for meals. We had a normal key for opening our dorms, but if the doors to class were locked we had to wait.
Are the beds lofted? (meaning they are like a bunk bed w/out a bottom bunk) What is the configuration like? At JBA there was a dresser, a desk for each person with three drawers next to it, a closet to be shared, and a bathroom to be shared with your room and the one next to it. (bathroom buddies) I thin kthe bathroom might just be one per hall here. Correct? The good thing about that was if you forgot your key the people in the room next to you could open your doo rfor you. (walk through the bathroom to your room and open door). How do they usually pair roommates?
The beds aren’t lofted. There is a dresser, desk and bed for each person, and then a shared closet. There are two bathrooms on each hall, I think. Also, on each hall or floor, depends on what building you’re in, there is a lounge room, with a fridge and microwave, and couches.
Another thing- What are weekends like? And activities? At JBA we signed up for afternoon activities on the computer using our ID, and weekends were already planned for us. The first saturday we had Water Olympics, the Second saturday we went to a water park, and the third weekend we had the alnighter and played dodgeball, quizbowl, etc. Is there an Allnighter here? (you stay up all night the night b4 you leave and then, well, you leave. There’s movies, dodgeball, SceneIt, and stuff going on. sleeping is for wimps)
No allnighters. Sorry. You sign up for activities each day, there’s usually a sign up sheet for each hall. On weekends, there’s mandatory fun, and dances. One dance the first Saturday, one the second Friday and one the second Saturday, and one the last Thursday.
This might not be relevant, but when I went to my summer math-and-science program, I took along a big box of baking soda. I knew that I’d be rooming with a kid who was brilliant at chemistry, and I thought it might be prudent to have along a chemical that puts out fires and absorbs odors. I was right. It came in very handy when George and some of the other boys started dosing one another’s beds with butyric acid.
34- I used to brush my teeth with baking soda when I was sick. Once I brushed my teeth with salt, because my gums were really sore. Abrasive stuff, salt.
28-Yes. It’s the name of a forum for CTYers, and also of what happens after CTY. I believe it was created shortly after CTY last year, when everyone was still suffering from Post-CTY-depression. The name doesn’t really work right now, but it will again in a couple weeks.
I just finished packing. I spent about 10 minutes trying to decide if I should pack my AHD M-W collegiate dictionary and eventually decide on AHD, but now im having second thoughts. Ugh. and i don’t know how i’ll survive that long without internet. and without MB. But I guess i’ll manage. hopefully.
I’m a talented youth, I think…. anyway, I’m not in CTY, but I’m going to a Summer Enrichment Program in Charlottesville VA this summer. It’s for smart kids like me
37- Do you need a dictionary? Because all I have is the Oxford American College Dictionary, and it’s about 5 inches thick. I really don’t want to carry it around.
Leaving for CTY in about 1 1/2 hours! I don’t know how i’m going to survive that long…..i’m already wearing my lanyard from last year. lol. I can’t wait! I’m very excited. I slept about 5 hours last night. Whcich is very little for me. I was too excited. But i’m not tired. Im happy. i can’t wait. I wonder what color the lanyards will be. I know the staff lanyards are going to be white. And who will be my RA? who will be my roommate? lucy maybe I hope? how many friedns who I lost contact with (which is essentially all of them except Lucy and my hallmates) will be back? what dorm will i be in? lol. Last year I was nervous but I didn’t know what particular things to wonder about because I didn’t know enogh about it. And now…….I have ll those uqestions i jut sid. just 1 1/2 hours! but it seems forever. Ugh. And i’m just babbling aren’t I? actualy I sound just like before a spelling bee, but way, way, way happier.
ugh. I can’t wait.
Goodbye everyone! See you in 3 weeks!
I get to buy a new dictionary! Yay! My mom is looking over my shoulder and says to say that most normal teenage girls would not be this excited about getting a dictionary. Whatever. Which one should I get? I was think in American Heritage Dictionaryor Merriam WEbsters.
I love dictionaries! I want a pocket one, or maybe a slightly more condensed version that I can carry everywhere with me. Not that I go anywhere. And a thesaurus. Hey, it’s like a dream come true. (Except that it’s not true.) A nice little bag, complete with (probably paperback; hardback would be too heavy) dictionary and thesaurus.
I like American Heritage, but I don’t really know any of the other ones. I use the online dictionary too much, since whenever I need a dictionary I’m either online or writing, and in both cases it’s easier just to look it up online than go get the real dictionary. I miss it. *sniff* All I use it for is browsing, or if I hear a word I don’t know while I’m at home, not on the computer. And the last word I looked up in the actual dictionary didn’t exist in that edition.
Do we have library access while we are there?
What time is sign-in?
Did you get a letter saying that they had made a mistake in the certificate that said you had good SAT scores?
Did you do the talent search?
Occasionally, if you need to use computers for a class, the instructor will take the class to a computer lab. Same goes for library access. If the class needs it, the instructor will take you.I got a letter saying they made a mistake, but that’s only because they spelled my name wrong…
Seamouse, which camp are you going to?
Anyone ever done a program through WCATY (Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth). It has summer programs, and online courses that are more advanced than regular classes. Don’t mean to brag…
What? Traggle, what do you look like? Also, what time are you planning on getting there for check in? I was planning on around 11:30, but do you think that is to early? I need to get books and get settled in, but that would make more sense if I knew someone. My parens are debating on whether or not to go to church. It starts at 10:45, so over at about 12. It takes about and hour and a half to get there, so that puts us at about 1:30. I think that is to late, b/c unpacking and stuff needs to get done. Am I right in skipping church?
56- Yay! You’re back! I usually arrive around noon, and 1:30 would probably be a bit late. One slight problem…my parents don’t know about MB, so I might have to try and ditch them before I meet you…
Ok, or I could just try and find you during lunch or something… Is there a lobby where check in is? I will probably post with an accurate description of what i am wearing early sunday morning, bt that depens on the mood my dad is in. Check in would probably be better though. What do you look like? I think I have a general idea, short-ish, darkish hair, not longer than soulder length, I don’t know much more than that. I would ask on Physiogonmy or whatever, but I think people are still guessing you, right?
Well, I for one, do not own one. Sorry. My mother has forbidden me to buy shirts/acessories that have the brand name or promotional item on them. This included. Sorry.
If you post on Sunday morning, I won’t see it…I live in New Hampshire, so my parents are driving me down to Pennsylvania(sp?) on Saturday, and we’re spending the night at a bed-and-breakfast…then we’ll drive to Carlisle from there on Sunday morning…so, I won’t be on the blog after Friday…
about 5’8″, red hair, if down shoulder length. Blue/green eyes, glasses that are brown rimmede and have squareish frames. On Sunday I will probably dark khaki shorts, and a green shirt that says Little Miss Lucky on it. My hair most likely will be up in a clippy, a brown one. I moght be wearing either bright green Nike tennis shoes, or brown sandals. I will probably arrive about 11:30ish… Your given name is? Mine is Julia.
64- Cool! Second session obviously. What course are you taking?
63- I’m short. 5’3″. brown hair, somewhat shorter than shoulder length, brown eyes, no glasses. On Sunday, I’ll probably be wearing jeans, blue sandals, a black t-shirt that say “I haven’t lost my mind, I’ve got it backed up on disk somewhere” and skull necklaces and earrings. I’ve told my parents that I’m going to ditch them after I have lunch. As for my name, you can head over to the Physiognomical thread and guess!
Fiona, correct? My parents are staying until after the introduction ceremony thingy at 3. So. I will be sporting a hideous dark green suitcase from Landsend. I think. Have you packed yet?
I’m Back! Didja miss me? CTY was absolutely amazing.I met two musers (that I know of) there and instructed them to visit. I’ve only been home a few hours and I already feel as if I’ve left my heart in Lancaster. For anyone who hasn’t been and has the opportunity, GO! It is definitely NOT school over the summer. The people there were(and are) brilliant and crazy and funny and wonderful. I made so many awesome friends, including my rocker-stalker-rubik’s cube solving- slash fan roommate (one of the musers.) CTY is the closest thing I can think of to a Muse camp. The traditions were simply, ineffably, fantastic, and I’ve probably got mono from the other muser (passionfruit) Every Thursday people wore towels and bathrobes, and “god” read from “the bible” (H2G2), I learned how to play silent football, I know how to do the Time Warp, and am now officially no longer a squirrel. I’m sure I’ll write at length on the topic, but it’s pretty late already. Oh, and btw, Lancaster Pwns. The food is, I’m told, a lot better than it was last year.
People shouldn’t forget about this thread….Oh, and the food at Lancaster sucked last year, glad they improved this year. But still, I have to say that Carlisle pwns Lancaster.
Hey…this thread is still open…..
I’m taking International Politics at Carlisle for CTY 2008!
It’s my last year, though.
And strangely enough, my birthday is not during either session of CTY this year. It’s the day in between both sessions.
I saw two CTYers at Carlisle- “Mirabelle the divine Qween of Green” and Traggle. I know that the former knows I was there, but Traggle, didn’t you see me start when the duct tape crownèd one introduced you to me? I commented on your tiger-eye pendan, if you remember thatt.
Sorry to only get back to Museblog this late, but I took a major computer break.
By the way, I’m taking Ethics at Carlisle this year.
o_O
So many new threads…….
I’m a talented youth, but not a CTY talented youth. My summer program is nothing in particular.
what is CTY?
I’m a talented youth but I’m a MITY-fine talented youth. MITY is rather similar to CTY, just called a different thing. I’m in creative writing.
3- Center for Talented Youth. Beyond that, I’m as clueless as anyone else.
4- Creative writing? Cool! I ♥ creative writing, I think I’m going to tutor when I go to town.
Traggle would you mind greatly if I were to perhaps find you the first day since you have been b4?
Did anyone check out the website I posted on the random thread? I thought it was quite helpful, but made me scared. I have a feeling I’ve said this before…

I might go to CTY next year. There shouldn’t be a problem getting a good SAT score, but I might have other commitment
In Sacramento, we have ATS(Academic Talent Search) It is basically the same thing, but I think Academic Talent Search sounds like a game show title. so is CTY basically the same thing as Duke TIP? I qualified for that but never did any..
Thanks for the thread GAPAs!
7- I wouldn’t mind, but how would you find me?
13-Yes, though i think CTY is bigger. But actually i’ve read about TIP, and they even have a lot of traditions and such in common.

I’m a NAGTY talented youth.

No problem
i am in a camp that is for musicals!
i get to be elphiba from wicked!!!!!!!!!!!

“post-CTY-Depression”? Is that getting depressed after CTY is over for the summer because you aren’t there anymore?
28-yes.
Aaah! I’m leaving TOMORROW! This is just dawning on me. Any tips?
30- Going to Lancaster, right? Avoid the salads. Lancaster food isn’t all that good.
This might not be relevant, but when I went to my summer math-and-science program, I took along a big box of baking soda. 32- Good foresight.
Useful stuff, baking soda. You can even brush your teeth with it in a pinch, though it tastes pretty bad.
34- I used to brush my teeth with baking soda when I was sick. Once I brushed my teeth with salt, because my gums were really sore. Abrasive stuff, salt.
I was nominated for two camps this year by my GT techer, but they were ridiulously expensive and very far away.
28-Yes. It’s the name of a forum for CTYers, and also of what happens after CTY. I believe it was created shortly after CTY last year, when everyone was still suffering from Post-CTY-depression. The name doesn’t really work right now, but it will again in a couple weeks.

Bye Emma! *Sniff*
I probably qualify as a talented youth but I’ve never heard of CTY. Ah, well, I’m busy enough this summer with band camp and the like.

good bye, emmatheduck!!
wuz CTY?
CTY= Center For Talented Youth
I’ll be happy to answer any more questions on the subject
I have too many questions…
Do we have library access while we are there?
What time is sign-in?
Did you get a letter saying that they had made a mistake in the certificate that said you had good SAT scores?
Did you do the talent search?
Sorry.
I’m going to be taking three weeks of Ancient Greek this summer with CTY. I’m looking forward to it.
But we won’t be able to use computers at all there.
Again, I hated CTY. Don’t ask why.
53- Why?
Any CTYers out there?
What? Won’t she be wearing her “Kokopelli for President” button? And if not, why not?
59-That’s what I say! I wear my buttons a lot!
Ok. Accurat description of what you look like?
Here’s me:
about 5’8″, red hair, if down shoulder length.
51- I’m going to Dickinson College.
65- Ancient Greek.
Wait, so all these people are going to Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA? I guess I’ll be seeing lots of Musebloggers there.
66- Fionna. with two ns. And I’ll be ditching my parents after lunch.
67- Yes, you’ll see a few Musebloggers there. Are you a boy or a girl?
68- A girl.
I finished packing about ten minutes ago…

By people, I meant CTYers…I want to know how everybody’s CTY experience was…
No CTY for 300 miles… *Sigh*
I went to SEP (Summer Enrichment Program) in the UVA campus last year (and before that, and before that). It sounds a lot like CTY.
Looks like I misplaced the t there.
I qualify for CTY.
Well, it’s not exactly 2007 anymore, BUT who’s going [Snip! Let’s keep this discussion general, please. –Admin.] this year?
