The press office at West Virginia University says the 20th annual Pumpkin Drop is probably going to be held on October 26. Some Musers have said they’d like to enter this year, and we say “go for it.” To see what it’s all about, read the Koko Bomb Saga.
Patience, Please
This site is under reconstruction and will look strange for a while. We regret the inconvenience.
All you have to do is put the pumpkin on an 11-story tripod. Easy.
Regulations restrict the size of the pumpkin-encapsulation apparatus. (Also the minimum size of the pumpkin. You’re not allowed to drop anything so small as to be indestructible.)
That’s awesome. We did an egg drop in 6th grade… except that was two stories. Mine survived when dropped, but not when thrown forcefully. My egg was held in the middle of a crate with rubber bands… so it would move but not hit anything.
aaah, yesss…is that on a weekend? west virginia’s not a bad drive from here i think…depends where in of course, but still
3- When I was eight I went to a place that I can’t name and there was an egg-rocket competition. . . . We called ours the “Spiral 2000”. . . . Our rocket went the highest, but the egg broke and landed on someone’s back on the way down.
I did a “Science Olympiad” project in 7th grade – naked egg drop. It was like an egg drop, except you drop the egg onto a platform you built instead of building something around the egg. It’s harder though – our egg didn’t even hit the platform!
We’ll DEFINITELY come, we live pretty close. My mom also said this at the Kokonvention, but we have rooms in our house and can find places for people to stay if they want to come…
Where is it in WV??
Morgantown. Unfortunately, they always hold the Drop on a Friday, so kids have to skip school to participate. Maybe that’s why a group of home schoolers won the year Nak and I were there.
Oh maaan. Why a Friday? I’ve checked the Greyhound schedule and it appears that if I take a 5:30 pm bus from my town, I would get to NYC at 7:35, have a layover of close to two hours, and then take a bus to Wheeling, WV, arriving at 9:00 AM on Friday, also stopping in Pittsburgh, PA, which is where THF and Panda live, if I’m not mistaken, but at 6:30 AM. Yikes.
Aww, a Friday. Hmm, and that would be amazing… I wouldn’t mind skipping at all, it’s just the getting-there that would be the problem…
hmm. now convincing parents to skip. how to do…
what time is it on friday? if it’s in the morning i might have to skip thursday to get there…
Chicago people – there are buses that go from Chicago to Pittsburgh with prices ranging from $4 to $15 round-trip depending on when you “reserve” your seat.
I also did an egg drop at a camp, but pumpkins is another thing…
Put it in a large plastic container full of peanut butter. Works like a charm. If it’s allowed.
why is this up? it is not happening in till october.
Flour works for eggs too. But usually they give you guidelines – and for most egg drops you have to make the thing then and there with provided materials such as straws and cups.
