Happy Birthday once more, Dr. Sagan.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe this is the fifth I’ve wished you and the fourth on MuseBlog. It doesn’t feel like so long ago that I didn’t know who you were at all, and, at the same time, it seems weird to think that there was ever a time I didn’t.
If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have gone to Space Camp, I wouldn’t own so many turtlenecks, I wouldn’t have written my Muserology, I wouldn’t have gotten to go see STS-133 take off, I wouldn’t have gotten my internship this summer, I wouldn’t have chosen BU because they had space advocacy student organizations and the Center for Remote Sensing, I wouldn’t have met Dave Scott or Farouk El-Baz or Nicholas Patrick or… well, a lot of people… I actually wouldn’t have met any astronauts at all! I wouldn’t even have met Erin or Hannah!
And I wouldn’t be going to Public Night in an hour and a half at the BU observatory to explain to people what they’re seeing through the telescopes, or to the Microgravity Team meeting on Friday to discuss our outreach plans.
So thank you, Doctor.
Thank you for everything.
This is going to be dull and shallow compared to the great post Kai wrote, but Dr. Sagan, thank you for everything you’ve offered our world and happy birthday.
“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” Happy birthday Dr Sagan, and thank you so much for everything. You are an inspiration to all of us.
Happy birthday, Dr. Sagan! *space pies*
