Welcome, Neophytes! (April 2012 edition)

If you’re new on the blog, please stop by this thread and say pie — er hi.

We recommend that newcomers (that’s what “neophytes” means) look over The Rules and The HG2MB (Hitchhiker’s Guide to MuseBlog).

Next, if you’re so minded, stop by Who’s Here (see the menu at the top of your screen) and announce your arrival in a comment there, so we’ll be sure to add you to the official list.

MuseBlog Veterans: Please use this thread only to welcome newcomers as they arrive and answer questions that they ask.

    1. Hi! Don’t mind the unicorns and rainbows and Comic Sans, that’s an April Fool’s Day thing. They’ll be gone tomorrow.

          1. See the date below her name? That’s when she wrote that comment. In this case, it was April 20, before you arrived.

      1. We’re sisters and I don’t quite remember posting that, but I can imagine that when I did, it was most likely an accidental post that was never supposed to get out there. I’m realy sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. I’ll remeber to read over my posts before posting them.. Thanks for the notice

        1. Sorry! I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I was just trying to figure out who was who.

The good news is that both you and Agent Hippie have been added to MuseBlog’s birthday calendar. By the way, you’ll be 5,000 days old on February 9, 2013.

  2. Hi! I’m Liv, or asentia. I found this site courtesy of some people on the Chatterbox (I’m Olive there) (I see you, ZNZ). What are the squids and pies for?

    Pie 0

    1. Hello there, Liv! Welcome!

The pies are congratulatory, and the squid varies in purpose; usually squids are sympathetic, but they can also be congratulary. One exception of this is Piggy, however; he just gets squidded (although I’m not sure if that’s still going on).

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. my guess would be that the pies are like… example: “Oh this guy is not right in the head!” “pie him!” and the squids are happy squids like example: “Oh my gosh this guy is awsome! here here is a squid!” or smething.

        1. Oh, no–I hope you haven’t been thinking the pies some of your posts have received meant that. The pies are more or less what you thought squids were, and the squids are more like, “Oh, no, I’m so sorry that’s happened to you! You’re too awesome to deserve that; here is a squid!” Sometimes they can be congratulatory, though. Actually, they can mean almost anything, but sympathy is the most usual use of them.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
    2. Pies denote appreciation and approval for a post, or, when thrown like this *throws pie at asentia* they can mean a variety of things.

Squids are usually used for sympathy, but they can be happy squids too.

    3. Hi Asentia! Welcome!

Don’t worry too much about the pies, every newcomer is almost smothered with cream by the time we’re finished welcoming them.

If you want to get even more goopy, head on over to the Pie War!

      1. Hey Catwoman! I’m Cat’s Eye! Lots of people mix me and Meow up, but we’re not the same person (though sometimes we find that we are worryingly similar). With you, me, Meow, and LittleBasementKitten, it’s not long before we’ll be able to field a basketball team.

  5. No, you’re not! You’re still learning! Welcome to the ‘blog!
(Protip: If you have to post more than once in a row, include “Sorry for the double post” or SFTDP. It’s okay, you didn’t know.)
Hope to see you around the blog!

  6. Hey Catwoman! Nice to have you here! How long have you been getting Muse for?

If you’re interested, a Museblogger many years ago was working on a movie script version of Attack of the Smart Pies. If you search for the “Muse Movie” threads you can find some of them, where he was posting his script version. They’re mostly dead since he doesn’t really come by anymore, but just in case you want to read them :)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. WOA! wouldn’t it be nice if they made the attack of the smart pies movie!?! i would directly order mom to buy me a television set for my bedroom so i could wach it in my sleep! ha ha!
and answer to your question how long have i been getting MUSE magazine for? well to tell you the truth… i don’t. the ones i have are old unused ones from 2001-2008. i got them from a friend who grew out of them. also if people are concerned with getting too old for MUSE. IT DIRECTLY SAYS FOR AGES 10 AND OVER! there is not 10 and UNDER! ten and over so i guess that applies for 99 year olds as well!? i ask if that is correct or not! please reply

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. You are correct! There is no upper boundry on the age for recieving Muse! Which is good for me, seeing as I’m twice your age . And don’t worry about not technically haveing a subscription, many people here just read it at their library. I stopped getting it last year (not my decison), but read it when I come across it and will probably renew my subscription on my own actually.

  7. Hello there, Catwoman!

You’re not a derp, you’re just quite new to this blog! Welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay here! It’s nice to see new faces.

And also, that is a cute gravatar you have there. It seems to me that recent newcomers have all had wonderful gravatars! :D

i LOVE that picture of Kokopelli throwing a pie at a creeper! where did you get that?!?! that is AWSOME!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Yeah, I stole the pic and then just used paint to edit in a creeper. Not that difficult, but still very fun.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. I’ve always despised MS paint. It’s okay for pixel-by-pixel editing and a little bit of resizing, but on the whole GIMP and Photoshop are my weapons of choice. I still use paint.net occasionally, though.

  13. Off our rockers. Into the deep end. Charlie Sheen.
All are synonymous words for “wildly crazy and then some”.

Welcome, Catwoman. It’s good to see a fresh face. I sometimes feel like the blog is getting too full of stuffy paleophytes that like to go on about how the walk to school was uphill when we were your age. I, of course, NEVER do that. But anyway, welcome to the blog! I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourself. It’s sort of hard not to have fun here.

    Just a couple tips:
Try to think of everything you’re going to say and put it all in one post.
Don’t get impatient at the moderation – the GAPAs do their best.
Attempt nice-looking spelling and grammar. It’s not a rule, but it’s easier to read that way.
    Love thy blog-neighbor.

Do that stuff and you’ll be a pro in no time. *pies Catwoman*

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. Technically there’s no such thing as blog-arrest (I think), but it makes things go a lot smoother here if you try your best to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in all of your posts.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0

      1. Part of the internet is the factor of anonymity. Yes, you can pretend to be anyone you want to be. On the other hand, pretending to be two different people at once is highly discouraged. It’s quite rude to those of us who are trying to welcome newcomers, and creates unnecessary confusion. Our blog community thrives on respect, and pretending to be another person is not especially respectful. All it does is make you seem immature. (Also, we really, really like capital letters in the proper places. It will make people more likely to read your posts.)

        Pie 0

  15. Hi BLK, asentia, and catwoman! I was new here earlier this month and made a lot of mistakes. It’s good to know that we are all musers here and we all understand and are nice to eachother. (is that one word or two?)
Once again, welcome one, welcome all!!!

  17. actually my friends made fun of our dear pie throwing friend Kokopelli right in front of my eyes! if you want me to tell the dreaded and dire story squid me 8 times and Agent Lightning and Kokos Apprentice must reply to this post 3 times each! ok.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. You didn’t hurt anyone, nothing is exploding. But it’s still something you shouldn’t do. Don’t worry about it – you’re new, and you know just as much as I did when I was new on the blog. I was your age, actually, and I posted like 5 posts in a row once.

To be clear, though – things you shouldn’t do:

      Use someone else’s avatar
      Post as two different people
Use the pie/squid/reply system like one of those copy/paste messages on YouTube.

We don’t usually use the pie/squid for voting, except on a couple threads, and we never ask for pies or squid to tell a story.
You can either choose to share your story or not, but you can’t ask for recognition before you do. That’s not what the blog is about.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
    2. Also… you know that we don’t encourage replying to a comment multiple times in a row, but perhaps you didn’t realize that we also don’t encourage encouraging others to do so. It’s alright, though.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  18. SFTDP but i have a question for Agent Lightning:
why is your profile picture of a turnip?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. I’m… not exactly sure why it’s a rutabaga. It might be because of a secret language my friends had in sixth grade, and how ever since then I’ve liked the word “rutabaga”.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
        1. Everyone’s strange in their own way, and that’s not a bad thing. After all, what is normal apart from being overrated?
