We haven’t? We had a combined soccer/cryptoids thread once.
Go ice hockey! Woo!
Thank you, treble cone freeskier! I am a huge sports fan, and what better city for sports than good old Boston MA, home of the world champion Sox, the undefeated Patriots, the best team in the NBA the Celtics, and the, oh, well, we love the Bruins anyway.
I am definitely not a professional-sports fan, but my entire city seems to be. After we won the Super Bowl a few years ago, there was a GIGANTIC rally, and we had the day off of school because they didn’t think we would have enough sober bus drivers. ::rolls eyes::
I play tennis, and I’m actually starting to get pretty good, so it’s fun now. A few months ago it was mostly like a chore, because I had to learn how to do everything, but now that I can actually do all of the strokes, it’s fun!
3- I play tennis too! I really love it. Maybe it’s just because I actually made some friends on the team this year or because I got lessons and can play now to, but it’s really a ton of fun.
Do you prefer singles or doubles? Singles for me.
3-Hey, a day off of school sounds all right to me!
My home town had a team go to the Super Bowl a year or two ago, which was kind of nice. I don’t really pay too much attention to pro sports, though. I used to live in California, and I payed attention to baseball a lot, but with all of the steroids and stuff I’m just not into it anymore.
But soccer rocks. I play soccer all year round, even right now. For example:
Sunday I have 2 futsal games
Tuesday I have foot skills training
Saturday I have regular indoor soccer
Hooray!

Jadestone (4): I like singles better. Whenever I play doubles, we end up not hitting half the balls that come halfway between us, because we always figure the other person is going to get it. And then there are the times when we both decide to get it, and we end up hitting each other in the faces.
Winter sports…I went skiing for the first time this year, and it was really fun! It only took me one time down the hill to get the hang of it, and I got really good at it by the end! I also like sledding, and ice skating. I learned how to skate backwards this year!
i ski for fun and i race. i am working on my free skiing
play tennis (but i have taken a short break until i get my schedule a little less crowded)
and ride horses (at least twice a week -hunter jumper, (i do dresaage, and eventing too,))
i did ice skating and was quite good until i quit
I love CALVINBALL!!!!!!
choklit to anyone who knows what I’m taking about.
YES!!!!!! CLAVINBALL RULES THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a Calvin and Hobbes nut.
9- Calvin and Hobbes.
9- I love Calvinball, too! That’s the one game I wish I could play in gym!
Has anyone ever played Calvinball? I did once, with my friend E. The Glacier Wicket was prominent, and the final score was Googly-Wong to Trifinity.
9&10-Hooray for Calvinball!
I was at my grandparents’ house once and my brother and I were playing Calvinball all across their property (which is really big). it was so much fun. xD
12-Ha, that would be so cool! If all we did was play Calvinball I might even take gym.
We should have a Calvinball thread…like a roleplaying thing, you know? Sort of like Ships’ Log.
10- I love Calvin and Hobbes! I own lots of the books.
I don’t watch sports except the Olympics.
I run long distance in school and for fun, though.
15- Or just a Calvin and Hobbes thread.
17-Yeah, except roleplaying rocks and I’m in a roleplaying/writing mood right now. =P
Yay Calvinball! It would be fun to play, but I’ve this weird feeling that I’m too mature…
We turned off all the lights in the gym to play dodgeball today.
19- Mature? You’re a Muser, for crying out loud. The ability to skilfully combine dignity and silliness is practically inborn- look at the GAPAs.
What about Borackian Ultra Cricket? (sp on 'Borackian'?)
I think randomly whacking people with different instruments and running away would be pretty fun
7- Same. And now I’m so used to singles I forget that doubles lines are in, as does the person coach kept telling me to practice doubles with (who also plays singles). XP
I wanted to call some people and see if they could go play with me on sunday after the thaw (it got up to around 60º!) but the nets aren’t up and I lost the phone numbers. Oh well… as soon as it’s a bit warmer I’ll just throw a string across them or something.
Sport I thought up last week: Tennis on ice skates, on a hockey rink. The ball would probably have to be modified, and the way you hit as you’d have to be facing it to be moving, but I think it’d be pretty amusing. The hockey team last year played lacrosse on ice once…
20 True, true… It’d work if I had some other Musers to play it with, but none of the Musers I know (see definition on the random thread) are the type to play Calvinball (or ARE they?). Maybe K…
I realized in French today that I’ve never watched a football game, either in real life or on TV. *is un-American*
23-Blech. I don’t know why it’s American to watch football. I don’t know why people watch other people bowling OTHER people over for hours on end.
who saw the game this weekend! yah!
I finally fixed my computer!
I got a virus and I’ve been offline for months!
I remember reading about calvinball a few years ago.

I hate cellphones, the world would be simpler without them.
26- i am never without my cell phone, why do you hate them?
sorry for double posting
so this morning i had a riding lesson, and i have finally gotten my cantering perfect when i jump. it was really good, and my instructor didnt yell at me once!!!!
26~ I don’t have a cellphone. I never even talk on the phone, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to have one.
I used to ride, but the last time I was on a horse was several years ago. I really miss it though, and I’m hoping to get back into it. Unfortunately I stopped taking lessons just before I might have started jumping. Grr.
27-Make no mistake, I could never live without a cellphone either. I hate them because they interrupt conversations and people use them without any acknowledgment for manners. (Even though your talking to me right now, I can end our conversation and ignore you for an hour because somebody else wants to talk to me on my phone) Also, I don’t like being reachable anywhere. I think that cellphones are useful for emergencies and similar things, but I really hate it when people spend more time text messaging and talking on their phone than talking in real life.
*Gasp, gasp* Sorry, but, I mean, you did ask. By the way, the thing about me hating cellphones is my signature.
I hate cellphones, the world would be simpler without them.
29- every time i give it up, i have to start again ( i have ridden since i was 4, and i love it) i have switched barns 6 times though in 9 years
I played soccer in highschool–my school didn’t have a team, but my friend and I started one. I was the goalie.
I have a cell phone so that I can call my mom if track/XC ends early, is going late, gets canceled, ect. Or if I’m staying after school. So I use, like, less than ten minutes a month. But when I do call, it is very convenient.
So, let’s see. Sports thread. I need a sports topic. Hmmm… I am not exactly talented at sports. Except running. It’s fun! *ignores incredulous looks* really! at least it is when you have someone to run with.
You’d be surprised at how many people do not know that track and cross country are two completely different sports. I once overheard the bus driver saying (into the little radio thing), “Yeah, I’m driving the track team to [insert city] for a cross country race.” what???
33-Oh I totally agree with you. Cell phones are very useful for things like that. It’s the other stuff that gets me. I know a first grader who has one and I’ve actually seen someone text message the person sitting next to them.
i did cross country for 2 years untill i quit after continuosly getting hurt. but its in my lood. my dad was a marathon runner, my grandfather was the capitan of his high school (Andover) and his cllege (Williams) cross country team, one of my uncles ran cross country, and the other also was a good runner. to bad i didnt like long distance that much. I might try out track and field (it also runs in my family, and i have the right build for it)
i like downhill skiing but am bored by cross-country
36-cross-country skiing is so much more exciting. downhill’s fun too, but i like cross-country better.
running i just hate in all forms except sprints
Treble COne Freeeskiier…I am presuming NZ treble cone ski park? or is it reltaing to something completely different?
oh, hi all. Haven’t been on in a while, trying this thing called “sleep” and I have to work on the theremin because the science fair is in a few months.
-back on topic-
um, marching band? Which is so a sport, despite what certain people may say. I still argue about that with someone, although I think he just enjoys arguing with me. (It’s been three months, hasn’t it? At least it means there’s only five months until it starts again…) I don’t care for any other sports.
Oh, around now we’re climbing stuff in gym. I don’t do climbing because it’s in the air and I don’t like heights, but today I belayed someone. The harness was kind of awkward. And when she jumped off the structure at the end, my anchor was necessary. It was kind of disorienting to try to let her down slowly when I was distracted by gravity no longer applying in its usual form.
sports for me. umm, well. winter sports limited to snowboarding. summer sports limited to tennis, table tennis. these are THE sports people. trust me.
7-heh. i prefer singles as well, but doubles is a simple matter of coordination.
39-sleep. pshaw! i need no sleep, anyone who tells me otherwise is out to get me!
37- i hate cross country skiing- i will only do downhll
38- no it has to do with treble cone in NZ
sorry for double posting, but once again i had to comment on my riding lesson- i MIGHT get a horse in the next year!!!, because i am really improving!
GAPAS- can i send you a picture so you can post it?
running is singly the most boring thing to ever do. i hate it…yet somehow i am in track and field(i have a meet in a half an hour, so i must hurry). basically, expecially in long distance running, if you hurt yourself, you are dead. at the beginning of the two mile, i pulled my heel muscle/tendon. and then seven laps in, i got the worst cramp of my lif( i must start drinking water). it was the worst time ihave ever run in my life! a mnute and a halfe worse than my first time ever running the two mile! ugh!!!!!! anyway, i’m off to my track meet. see ya!
34: You’re kidding. A first grader???
43: Good luck!!
Marching band=the only reason anyone can force me to go to a football game. Football? Boring. Marching band? that’s more like it. (sorry to any football players)
44-I’m not kidding, I swear.
44- I don’t like football either. I was helping with the spotlights at Homecoming, but they had enough stagehands already, so there was nothing for me to do. The only bright spot was that I saw Venus!
44-football can be fun, in friendly games, but the whole culture of football+cheerleaders+high school is just horrible. very sexist, and very dumb. football culture is a symbol of why i hate the suburbs. but it can be fun, and i spose marching bands are fun too. not theat they should have to revolve around football games.
woohoo! sorry about you guys not liking football, but i love it. i just don’t play it. right now i am watching the pats vs. the chargers game. it should be good GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope they win. everyone in MA is a diehard pats fan. including those who aren’t remotely interested in sports.
well, i did better at my track meet than on tuesday. i cut 30 seconds off my time, but my heel was still killing me, so i ran a horrible time still. i had to put an ice bag on my leg for an hour, but otherwise i was okay. this wednesday is our last regular meet, and this saturday will be our last freshman sophmore meet. i’m going to be running the mile then. coach wants me to break sik minutes. hopefully i’ll get 5:55 or something like that.
I don’t particularly enjoy watching other people play sports, (soccer is the exception). I only watch football if the Patriots are in the Super Bowl or if the Red Sox are in the World Series.
Does anyone else here fence? It’s really fun and I’ve been doing it for five years.
Does anyone in the States play real football? The sort with the goals in neighbouring villages a mile apart, about 200 players per side, and very few rules except don’t actually kill your opponents?
49 – I love fencing. Unfortunately, there’s no place to fence near my home.
I wish I could fence.
I ran cross country in 7th and 8th grade but now there’s no time and the high school coach is mean anway.
I do taekwondo and I love it! At the end of the year i will get my instructor certification.
50-that sounds like great fun. never heard of it until now. perhaps i shall organize something of the like.
53 – I quote :
One manor record, dated 1280, states: “Henry, son of William de Ellington, while playing at ball at Ulkham on Trinity Sunday with David le Ken and many others, ran against David and received an accidental wound from David’s knife of which he died on the following Friday.”
For a good overview of one of the surviving games :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Shrovetide_Football
I think it’s time the real game was played in the USA. Just keep the lawyers well away from it.
I would love to learn tofence. *sighs* Maybe.
51-What sword did you use when you fenced?
54-I’d love to do something like that, but I live in a moderately big city.
54-wowowo. awesome. hmm. . . manhattan vs. brooklyn? lol, yeah that would be just about one of the only downsides of living ina city of 8.5 million.
56 – I used foil. Or sticks but thats another story.
54-that is seriously the best thing ever. hey, that would probably be a good practice thing for cross country. its like captur the flag, but over three miles apart! shweet!
i think fencing is so cool. i wish i could. i would sign up for it if it were put on by my school.
Since when would a school ever have/allow a fencing club
I really want to learn to fence too…
Plenty of boarding schools and colleges do. It’s not like it’s that dangerous. I have gotten some remarkable injuries while fencing Epee though. Like on the back of my head or on my shoulder (her weapon went all the way up my sleeve. To this day I have no idea how it happened)
i wouldn’t think fencing wold be dangerous if the students and the instructor were safety concsious. it would seriously be the best thing ever.
60 – You wear a lot of safety gear when fencing, so it’s safe.
62 – Ouch. Epee always looked dangerous to me.
64-stiff blades+relatively little protection=always bad news.
superbowl starts in and hour and a half!!!!!!!!!!!! go patriots!!!!!!!!!! i love the superbowl. lotsa food, some good drinks, and a great game! especially with the patriots in it. this should be good.
they lost. i am pissed. please don’t talk to me.
Go Giants!!!!!
Soccer is the coolest sport in the world, especially the Barclay’s English Premier League. I plan on playing soccer in college. I also like watching the NFL, and the Giants are awesome!!!! That was the most intense Super Bowl I have ever watched.
63-It’s not dangerous. You get injured when playing sports, no matter how much protection you use. I’m also too reckless when I fence, so I get hurt more
64-It’s fun because they allow most kinds of body contact.
Football (Soccer) is defiantly the best sport ever. I watch it, but I have nobody to talk to. I support NE Revolution and England. Anyone else watch soccer?
68- If you weren’t a fellow Museblogger, Giants Fan, I might have to disintegrate you. Pffff. Giants. (Im from Boston btw)
70- Me, well the world cup anyway. I like the teams that suck (i.e. Angola)
Duke Basketball rules! They will own North Carolina, and go undefeated in teh ACC!
As for the Pats, well, 18 wins doesn’t count for *snippy* if they don’t win the superbowl. Also, the s (probably why 99.9% of america watches football instead of soccer) could have protected Brady more than the starting O-Line. At least theres the sox in the spring.
Other than the Giants, I like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Troy Polamalu rocks on and off the football field.
I play soccer on a club team, and it is pretty cool. My favorite World Cup team is England. They have the best players ever. My favorite player would probably be Wayne Rooney, who plays the same position I do.
I watched the Pro Bowl yesterday. I wish the AFC team won, but I am glad Adrian Peterson won the most outstanding player award.:)
70- I enjoy watching soccer leagues on tv. The best MLS team is probably the LA Galaxy. The best player on that team is David Beckham. He is awesome, especially on free kicks.
I don’t know too much about MLS soccer teams, but I love watching the Women’s World Cup when that’s going on. The regular world cup too, but not as much. (I play soccer myself, by the way. It rocks! ;))
I love your gravatar!
SFTPP
76- My two favorite Women’s World Cup teams would have to be the U.S. and Germany. I saw Germany play France in 2003 when they were at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. They were both very skilled. Do you play club soccer?
I can’t wait till my spring season starts in April.
YAY my team won our first soccer game for the season
1 – 0
=]
I’m goalie
Jjetplane – in response to your post on the Things We Like/Things we Dislike, my parents also are from New York which is why I’m a football fan of Giants/baseball Yankees! Yay! (although truthfully I don’t follow Yankees much, baseball is a boring spectator sport for me…) I don’t really follow pro soccer or basketball even though those are the sports that I play, funnily enough. I’m more of a college basketball fan than NBA.
Right now…I’m playing basketball. Our season is doing really well, we’ve won all of our games so far.
I’m hoping to stop playing soccer for travel in the spring though. The fall was really un enjoyable. Maybe I’ll play soccer for school, though. I’m not sure. I’m pretty bad at it…I just couldn’t find a position that I liked. On my old team, I played defense. It was really fun but in my new team I just can’t seem to play defense (They already have a bunch of defenders who are all better than me) midfield’s too much running, and my shot isn’t powerful enough for a forward position.
Go San Francisco Giants (baseball)! *kicks thread worriedly in the hope of restoring it to life*
No one has posted here since last year! *tries to kick thread to life* No one plays sports?!
I do capoeira, jogging, skiing, ice skating (winter), roller blading, bike riding (summer) and that probably about it for now. Oh, and swimming as in free diving and hopefully scuba diving this summer. I used to sail too *has gotten lazy*
Ahhh…. I used to sail with my dad, and got to a point were he didn’t have to to much. But then my family moved and we weren’t as close to the bay. And my dad turned into an old man…
Ahhh badminton ahh! Fun to play, fun to watch. Fun to smash. I hate sports, but badminton is just amazing.
I love horseback riding too, but I haven’t ridden in so long. Lessons are very pricey, unfortunately, and so is leasing.
I used to have a badminton set, I wasn’t any good though… And one of my friends is obsessed with horses. She recently won 2nd place in a contest…
Soccer! Go Manchester United in the Champions League and the Premier League!
Yes! Soccer! I am in the middle of collecting supplies to make my own goalie gloves! (not to be used in games, just playing around at a elementary school)
You play goalie?
Yes! So fun! One of my friends plays soccer and got me to be a goalie for her when practicing, and I liked it so now I’m a goalie.
*kicks thread again* This is not working. I think the people here are more into writing/music/drawing/smart stuff than physical sports… Just my observations so far.
SKIING.
Yesterday was my first time downhill skiing, and it was AWESOME! My town has this thing where you get a rental, chairlift ticket, and lesson for $30, which was very very nice and cheap, so I’ll *hopefully* be going every Friday.
Of course, I really suck, so this is going to take a lot of effort, but oh well. I already have bruises all over my legs and arms and I think I pulled a few muscles, so…it can’t get too much worse, can it? *crosses fingers*
But! I have made progress! At the beginning of the 2 1/2 hours I spent at the Snow Bowl, I couldn’t ski down a hill without falling. *laughter* (At least the people there who were conducting the t-bar thingy were nice about me falling on it!)
And now I can. I’d say that’s good, wouldn’t you? XD
I have figured out how to turn and slow down. Happiness. But seriously, I had a loot of fun swooping and curving all over the place. And I got how to *not* fall down the hill that was all steep and stuff. And how to slow down. That was wicked important, strangely enough…
So, the lesson that I mentioned before helped quite a bit, as apart from learning all of the things I just mentioned, I was actually skiing pretty well! Plus, they put me in a group with this older woman who couldn’t ski at all, so that did a little tiny bit for my self-confidence (At the time, all I had seen were “small people” who could, of course, ski about 50 times better that I could.).
Then we decided to go down the mountain. *cue spooky music*
Nah, it wasn’t quite that intimidating. Although the chairlift went HIGH. And it took me about an hour to get down. I kid you not. A stinking hour. Later, my friend went down (I saw him on the chairlift as I was skiing down- which was rather embarrassing, as I was falling at the time…) and within ten minutes I saw him again, this time in the lodge. GRAH. Of course, he has been skiing for four years, but still…
So yeah. I fell down only 178,000 times, and learned how to ski on my knees, too, as my skis decided that they wanted to go. While I was on the ground, struggling to get up without crashing into a snowboarder.
But it was fun! And it was fast! And I panicked a few times and sat down, because I was going really fast, but still. The general swoopiness of it all made it absolutely amazing. I can’t wait until next Friday, ahahaha!
Fun. I can’t ski at all, I just go straight down the hill and fall down at the end to stop.
Mostly because I have to drive for four hours before I can get to snow, so I can only go every other year.
This is obviously way too late, but here’s a bit of advice anyway: lean forwards while turning. As in downhill. Otherwise, you start accelerating freakishly fast. Trying to stand on the edges on your skis helps too: if you’re carving, you’ll turn faster and if not you’ll just slow down.
I give up….. *gives one last kick*
Is anyone else rooting for a team in the Champions or Premier League? Or La Liga? Anything? Pro soccer is beautiful.
Ooh, yes! My brother and I watch EPL soccer whenever we get the chance. He’s rooting hard for Chelsea this year, but I don’t think they’ll be able to hold on.
Did you see the Barcelona (5) – Real Madrid (0) game a few weeks ago? Now THAT was gorgeous soccer.
I know. I was surprised by the score, but Barca is probably the best or at least one of the best teams in all soccer. Messi, Villa, Inesta, Xavi, Puyol… it’s hard not to win with that group.
As for EPL, I support Man-U. I guess this puts me at odds with your brother.
They’re brilliant. If I ever go to Spain (actually, Europe in general), I’ll have to scrape up enough money to get tickets to a game.
I generally root for Man-U, too, but I don’t always say that because people might think I’m jumping on the bandwagon…seeing as they’re often the only European team that Americans have heard of.
Man-U is pretty famous, but my favorite player on the team is not one of the big names. Park Ji-Sung? Ever heard of him?
I pay attention to the K-League but the quality level is so much higher in the European leagues I often end up watching them.
No, I haven’t heard of him. Is he Korean? (That guess was based off K in K-League being for Korea.)
Do you watch any MLS? (or even WPS?) The Sounders are the “local” team for me, so my family goes to Seattle every once in a while to see a game.
Yeah, K-League is the Korean soccer league and Park Ji-Sung is Korean (I was born there).
As for MLS, I’ve gone to a few games but I’m much more likely to go see European teams playing exhibitions in the US than MLS matches. I don’t mind watching US soccer, but their play is kind of unsophisticated compared to other leagues, probably because they’re newer. But MLS is looking up; Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez, and other big names are signing with teams. Both of them used to play on Barca.
Course I have heard of him! Ji-Sung is pretty good.
MLS isn’t anywhere near as good as international. International just has a better feeling.
What do you mean international? I’m fairly certain the only international league is the Champion’s League. And I wasn’t talking about that.
I know you were not talking about that, I am talking about Friendlies.
Friendlies like South Korea-Uzbekistan?
(3-2)
Goodbye Lee Young Pyo! We’ll miss you!
Yes, exactly!
When Man-U plays Barcelona (spelling?, I usually will vote for United, since I have a problem with David Villa.
Otherwise, Messi is beast.
Speaking of soccer…
Did you guys see Rooney’s best bicycle kick ever!
That was a while ago, but it still is amazing.
Topic of Basketball,
What do you guys think about the Heat? Are they going to pull their losing streak to an end, or will they end their season horribly?
I hope they turn it around, I am tired of them losing.
Then, the there is the Nuggets. I love going to the games, it is just now, without Chauncy and Melo, it is so different. I was bugging two of my friends though, about how they beat the Celtics with players that haven’t even worked together much.
My friend, C, is a Boston fan, and because of our sports hatred of eachother, we are really good friends.
What are your favorite teams in any league?
Mine are the Nuggets, Heat, and then in baseball the Rockies.
Occasionally, the Broncos don’t make me super mad, so I will add them too.
Man U, Internazionale, Barca, and FC Seoul.
Do you play soccer?
My guess is yes.
Your guess is right.
Park Ji Sung retired from international football with Lee Young Pyo.
The Heat snapped their streak! YES!
Plus, March Madness is coming up. Best time of the year, and CU is in it, along with UNC!
CU was snubbed… Go OSU!
I didn’t ice skate at all this winter… dunno, most of the time I was just too busy, I guess, and the problem remains that I’ve never really skated enough to break in my current pair of skates. But on the other hand, more skiing
And I need to find a sports pool so that I can try out that fabulous new flippers I got for Christmas. And re-learn free-diving.
Well… I’m pretty good at Wii Bowling…
There are a few New Englanders on MuseBlog, right? Anyone watch the Man-U vs Revolution game? When Park and Giggs came on and everyone cheered I almost cried. Then Park makes an awesome pass, gets the ball back, flicks it to Giggs who passes it back past the defender, and then just great composure and awesome finish. I cheered my head off.
Actually I didn’t think the Revolution looked too bad. I wasn’t expecting much from a team that wasn’t doing very well in the MLS, but they had their chances and held the Man-U starters scoreless.
I didn’t watch that game, but Manchester United is coming to Seattle soon for a friendly and my brother gets to go. *sigh*
My attention has really been more focused on the Women’s World Cup. Have you been watching?
Is anyone watching the women’s World Cup? The final is going to be really interesting. (Japan vs. the U.S.)
Women’s World Cup: I watched a bit, but I haven’t really been invested in it since South Korea wasn’t in it. I was impressed by France, however, and I am rooting for the US.
….Does contortion count as a sport?
CAPOEIRA!
…
Why is this thread mainly about people watching sports instead of doing them?
Anyway, I’ve renewed my free-dive record of 30 feet. Yes I can
I think of it more as a circus act — not that there’s anything wrong with that. Why do you ask?
Wait, so circus acts don’t count as sports? How are sports defined, then?
…they made us learn unicycling in P.E. in Beijing. And that was more interesting than anything else we ever did in class.
I wish my P. E. classes had taught us unicycling. Or tight-rope walking. Why didn’t they ever cover anything useful?
They also tried to teach us Chinese yo-yo, which led to a number of accidents regarding people getting hit on heads but which also led to people playing Chinese yo-yos while riding unicycles around campus.
As far as usefulness, about half of the students never succeeded in riding those unicycles and still can’t.
Chinese yo-yos? Are those like diabolos, or water meteors, or what?
They’re…not the easiest to describe?
They’re kind of hourglass-shaped, and you play with them by tugging to two ends of a string which are attached to sticks and–wouldn’t it be easier if there was a picture? (GAPAs? Please? Or should I hunt for a link?)
“Can you really make a living playing silly games?”
“Actually, you can be one of the most overpaid people on the planet.”
Lucky…. XD
You went to school in Beijing? I did not know this.
I tried to learn to unicycle a couple of times, but I could never find a unicycle that fit me. I could never reach the pedals, even when the seat was fully descended. :/
I was just wondering on which thread to discuss my sister, who wants is going to be in the circus when she grows up. I took some pictures of her today, and I just had the need to share them with the world. XD [/hyper_excited]
Sounds exciting! Circus sounds sporty enough to me.
Sports? Hahahahaha…
I think I used to be able to do a push up. Those days are long gone, though. Now I can beat my five-year-old sister in armwrestling. Most of the time.
So I’m going to the first Husker game of the season tomorrow. I think I went to a Husker game once when I was seven or so, but I’m not sure. But there’s a 50 percent chance of rain tomorrow, so we’ll probably get wet. Oh well, doesn’t matter. I managed to get a ticket, which was quite difficult to do, and so I’m going. And I just got a text from one of my friends who is apparently also going, which is unexpected but welcome.
*taps wall with side of fist*
Kind of a dusty place here, innit. Doesn’t get used much, looks like.
We have a sports thread?
SO, QUIDDITCH STARTS AGAIN ON MONDAY
It’s gonna be totally awesome. Although I am sort of obligated to say that, since I’m captain this year… Still, I can’t wait for it to start up again. SO MUCH FUN.
I know it’s been a while, but sports?
Quidditch *squee* I have a new college criteria. So much want.
I am a co-captain of my college’s Quidditch team. It is SO FUN. Grady can attest to this as well.
I WAS SUPPOSED TO HIT ENTER NOT POST
anyway yeah we are going to start again soon! It is WEIRDLY NICE OUT here. And a lot less wet than last year whee!
Also, co-captain and I might do an interview with someone from our college’s radio station who is doing a piece on Harry Potter. Fun!
Poor Japan, two goals in 100 seconds. Well, congrats to Cote d’Ivoire for making such a comeback after a disappointing first half.
How has there not been World Cup discussion here yet?
I don’t know! I’ve watched at least part of most of the games so far despite being on vacation. And despite a wedding. We did not tape the wedding and watch the games. The most fun was Netherlands versus Spain, which besides being a fun game to watch in general (poor Spain), my brother and I watched the first half on the seat-back screens on an airplane (it was headed on across the Atlantic so live TV was free!) and the second half on my phone walking across an airport. We felt like an ESPN commercial and I was newly reminded about how awesome technology is. Also, the guy behind us on the flight was headed to Sao Paulo to watch two Honduras games. They’re playing this afternoon so we have to root for them now.
I’ve got a Dutch friend and he says things got pretty crazy in his neighborhood after that game, fireworks and everything. I don’t think any of my Brazilian friends are going to any of the games, though. One of them did agree that the Brazil-Croatia game was pretty suspicious, i.e., Brazil paid off the ref. As he put it, Brazil should have won, but not the way they did.
USAAAAAAAAA.
I would say more, but I’m exhausted.
Awaiting Nate Silver’s updated predictions on FiveThirtyEight. Any of you who are into soccer and nerdy statistical analyses of soccer should check that out.
Watched Korea/Russia earlier with two friends, one Korean, one not, I think this was the most emotion I’ve had in a while. The people across the hall were watching too, apparently, but our tv was a few seconds ahead so they were like “why are they screaming?” right before they saw the goal.. So disappointed in the match, though. And the ref.
