If you’re new on the blog,
Don’t stay in a fog.
Come hither! Come, haste ye
For knowledge and, um, pastry.
All right, it doesn’t quite rhyme. So sue us. This thread can still be very helpful to newcomers who need a little orientation and a faceful plateful of pie. Come in and say hi!
Please read The Rules. You might also glance at The HG2MB (Hitchhiker’s Guide to MuseBlog), which contains helpful hints regarding local customs, lingo, and other peculiarities of the blog; smiley information included.
WELCOME
NEWBIESNEOPHYTES*throws a chocolate raspberry pie at all newbies*
By the way – GAPA’s i LOVE ♥ the poem
first post?
Neophytes-I found it useful in my everyday life to memorize this poem:
I don’t mind an overlong word
I don’t like to be part of the herd
I hate to see distinctions blurred
I enjoy being a nerd!
~Crraw in some recent issue of Muse
Oh, and *PIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIE*
Hello, wonderfully new
noobiesNeophytes! *blackberry pies*Post #3 should get down to business so I’ll start with:
1) This ain’t a chatroom. f u tlk lke ths well rant on u bcuz we usuly us propr gramr & spelng heer but if u axdently spel smthin rong its ok im horbl @ speln
2) Read the Rules and HG2MB before starting to continuously (see? I probably spelled that wrong) post. They’re helpful.
3) NO smiley armies. They clog the blog and make loading much slower.
4) HTML tricks and testing go on the HTML Tricks and Testing thread.
5) Try to condense everything to one post. Double posts are usually overlooked, but if you make triple/quadruple/five? posts or more we’ll start to get a bit mad.
6) Say something interesting that adds to the topic. If you have nothing to say (wheee! I like cucumbers!=no) don’t say it.
Neophytes? Awesome!
*pies all neophytes*
3 – On a different site which I frequent, that type of post is called an uber post. Each newcomer gets one.
*pies the neophytes* Hello all, even though you’re not here yet. I am the indomitable Groundhog.
Hello, neophytes. I doth be Kokonilly.
*pies*
I am a Neophyte, just came yesterday!
I guess I’ll celebrate my blogiversary March 1
on non-leap year years! ! ! !
Huzzah! Our very own (sort of) thread. Sort of. It’s nice to be stood up for.
*pies and otter rock creams to all*
Hi, neophytes! *throws banana cream pie* *SPLAT*
*pies Logogeo96 and silver_silva* Hello there. Hope you like pie.
:idea:9&10- Thanks, YUM! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Hello, neophytes. Hey, what’s that over there? *lemon-meringue-pies everyone*
7 – Ha, it’s like having your birthday on February 1st, except your blogiversary. Nice. Oh yes, and welcome! -pies-
8 – I’ll pie you too. ^_^ -pies-
To All Neophytes: I’m Cat’s Meow and I like writing threads and roleplaying threads and any other thread I like (No, really?). Welcome to MuseBlog, and if you have any questions about the blog, feel free to ask.
To All Neophytes: I am MissSwann. I am your relationship advisor. Contact me on Romance and Relationships. Also, if you are OBsessed with Twilight, Harry Potter, or Maximum Ride, I’m you girl.
Tommorow is Ron Weasley’s 28th birthday! Cheers, Won-Won!
14 – I love Maximum Ride!! And Harry Potter!!!
Belated Happy Birthday, Won-Won!
Wait, he must be older than 28. *calculates* Thirty-eight, Miss Swann, 38.
15 – No, 28. He was born on March 1st, 1980, according to Wikipedia.
I really dislike the word neophyte. It makes Newcomers sound less intelligent than Newbie did. Newcomer sounds just right to me, and I liked it when the old threads were called welcome newcomers. It felt friendly and nice. I hope the name of this thread can be changed back.
Red-tailed HAWK

17- I agree. “Neophyte” and “phytie” are just as bad as “newbie” and “n00b”. The only name for a newcomer should be “newcomer”.
IBCF-Thanks! I do hope more people will agree and the name of this thread can be changed…
Red-tailed HAWK

I like it as neophyte. Neopyte sounds more interesting, to me…
Perhaps we should ask the neophytes/newbies/newcomers themselves what they think.
Hello newbies/neophytes/newcomers or whatever we call non oldbies now.
*pies*
Why, hello!
*pies all neophytes*
are there any newbies here?
hello?
As the introducer of the term “neophyte” to this thread, I must say that it is in no way derogatory. It simply means “a recent convert” which is an accurate description of a newcomer to MuseBlog.
23 – Recent convert? Yeah, that’s probably the most accurate description of a MB newcomer.
17 – I must protest. I personally love the term neophyte. It just works so well. Maybe this is just my love of long words.
Hmm. That’s interesting.
f no n gets tht ther not vry obsrvnt.
i happen to be a neophyte myself, one of the few who appear to be taking part in this thread, and i prefer the term neophyte, it’s different, and sounds cool.
neophyte sounts like something from neopets, and that’s just plain wrong. Also, how do u do the strike things? I tried, and failed! WAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and *PIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIEPIE!*
Oh, and when you type something such as zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz it extends into some endless purple musiverse. What is it? Does it never end?
20, 23, 25, 27- Okay, nevermind then… *sides with the crowd*
28- Say you wanted to write
yes. First, you need to ignore the spaces I’m putting in this. Just completely ignore them. You typeyes. Assuming, of course, that you want only one word struck (?) through. If you want a sentence, then you put the at the end of the sentence. Hope this helps!Crud. That didn’t work. Oh well. Putting spaces in between the ‘s did not work. Anyway, type [strike]yes[/strike]. Just replace the [ ‘s with ‘s.
32- wow the
See the HTML Practice thread.
Aha! More neophytes! *pies Neophytes and Tumsymonster*
Neophytes–Interesting name. I like it. It’ll be kinda cool when you aren’t a neophyte anymore, but that’ll still be your name.
*Pies all neophytes/newbies/n00bs/etc. with a mint cream pie (never tried one before, but sounds good)* Also *Pies anyone who calls me a neophyte/newbie/blah-etc while not considering the fact that I joined in January of 2007 I’ve just not been here in a while*
Ha.
You’re still a newbster, buddybobai.
So, what’s your favorite book?
*Pies all neophytes* mwahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahah just wanted to do that
Hi Neophytes/Newcomers/Newbies/n00bs, etc.!!
Welcome to our litte rabbit infested, pie-flinging corner of the universe.

For the last line of that poem
I think it would be more poetic
to say “we wont grind your bones to make our pastry”
it sounds more gruesome but more poetic! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Hey guys it has been a while but PIE NUKES TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings, Dracasting! What have you been doing since August 21?
I think I may be changing my name soon. Miss Swann is all good, but it’s getting tiring.
41- Hi, Dracasting!
*pies* *is blown away by pie nuke*
If you ask me, the word neophyte
Is nifty; I think it’s just right
It’s a lovely expression
(Permit this digression:
It sounds like a rock. Like pyrite).
Wow, that last bit was a stretch, but I guess you’re allowed to torture limericks a little to get them to rhyme, right?!
I’m excited and proud to be a nephyte to the blog (though not to the magazine–been getting for ages).
16 – That wouldn’t make any sense. *is confused* *realizes something incredibly important* Ah yes. I remember now! The peek ahead was in 2016. Or something like that. Anyway, I was all confused and… well… um… something like that.
i think neophyte sounds like some sort of insect, or a disease involving pimples and rashes.
47-Hello *pies* ! I like you so far. You seem to be good at using complete sentences, which is good here.
*pies swallowtail_catastrophe_curve*
Hello there. And by the way, your poem wasn’t a stretch at all, end, beginning, or anywhere in between. In fact, it was awesome!
48- why thank you! i am a grammar freak, and continually annoy my friends by correcting them all the time, though i have an almost complete disregard for capital letters.
And now, an original song:
Welcome newbies, lalala!
Come and post and have some fun!
Join a ship’s crew, or just be random
And before I forget, PIES FOR ALL!!!!
(Note that I didn’t say it was a good original song.)
[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}[}
Personally, I think neophyte sounds like some sort of computer programming language.
By the way, I am also a Harry Potter nerd.
52 – Welcome! *pies* And you know, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was a programming language.
HP nerd??? Excellent. Do me a favor and drop in on the Suggestion Box and plead for a new thread. I’m the only one at the old one.
Have you read Twilight? If not, do so now.
I concur with the HP thread.
54 – Twilight? I saw the cover. It looks dark and disturbing.
54- I love Twilight! (And New Moon, and Eclipse.)
54~ The one by Stephanie Meyer? My friend loves it, I’ve started it, but I’ll read it when I finish the other boks I’m currently plowing through.
So, welcome ‘Phties!!
17,18- No matter how hard I try, I really can’t find it in me to feel anything against any of those words. And when there’s only one word for a newcomer, writing becomes dull. When I was new, I called myself a newbie. In fact, I called myself a newbie when I’d been here for half a year. I use neophyte, newbie, and newcomer. I like neophyte best, though, because every forum has newbies or newcomers, and only MB has neophytes.
54- I have yet to read Twilight and the rest of the series. My friends have already berated me about this, so you can save the lecture about how wonderful it is.
59- I haven’t read it either.
Thanks for the compliment, groundhog22 :).
Tumseymonster, do you read e.e. cummings?
61- i don’t think so…i don’t really connect the names of the authors to the books i read, so if i have read anything of his, i probably wouldn’t remember.
62- He’s a poet. He never capitalizes anything.
55- Dark and DISTURBING?????????????? It’s not dark or disturbing. It’s romance, action and humor all packed into one saga of awesomeness.
56-Everyone does.
57- Stephenie with an E.
59- It’s AWESOME. Read it now.
*has read Twilight (and New Moon, and Eclipse)*
Actually, I have a hard time deciding whether I love those books or hate them. It’s very odd.
It’s not that neophyte doesn’t mean what it means, that’s fine. I mean how it sounds. It sounds insulting somehow. Sure it’s different, and you can keep saying what its actual definition is, but for those of us who read how a word sounds instead of only hearing the word and thinking what it means, it doesn’t work.
Newcomer just sounded so friendly and optimistic, so warming and welcoming.
Of course, there are probably fourth graders who don’t know what neophyte means, and so they will come and not look at the thread!
Imagine that, a fourth grader not knowing the word neophyte! It’s just TERRIBLE! I’m telling you, this is what is wrong with today’s education system. By fourth grade at the latest, every child should know how to to spell every word in the English language, and know what it means too! I think they should learn Greek and Latin by then as well! *rantrantrant* *jokejokejokeofcourse**Coughchokegurglehemhahehehpardonmeexcusemecough* What? *Strange looks*Red-tailed HAWK

(66) Though sounds sound different to different ears.
I’m just thinking about how crazy of a time this is for any neophytes to show up.
So, ADVISE TO NEOPHYTES- the blog isn’t always this chaotic, so stick with us and the all-powerful and gracious GAPAs will fix everything. Then peace and prosperity will reign [in our little corner of the universe].
Meanwhile, keep throwing those pies!!!
67-True! I’m trying to think of what makes the word sound bad to me though…I can’t remember.
But, it comes down to who’s ears are worth more. That will be a tough choice!
Red-tailed HAWK

I actually think that “Neophyte” looks interesting and unique in writing, sounds pleasant and is great fun to say the way it sort of rolls out. But that’s me. *shrugs*
66. That makes sense. I don’t like the sound of the word “spleen”. Or “pulchritudinous”; even though it means beautiful, it doesn’t sound beautiful to me. But “libertine” sounds very nice, even though it’s not. I guess you never know.
I read the word neophyte in the newspaper the other day in reference to something and it made me smile.
General lolz at Twilight. I’m sure it’s fun to read but the plot summary I read made me want to gag. But I’ll probably see the movie cause I like Robert Pattinson omfg cedric wrrrry
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME to any new MBers welcome and have a nice time y/y
I like to pronounce neophyte Nee-Oh-Fie-Tee. Maybe I like Greek too much.
64 – Sheesh. No need to flip out. I was making an assumption from the front cover.
73 – I would say yes, you do. But there’s nothing wrong with that.
It was Greek originally: neophytos, meaning “newly planted,” from neos (new) plus phytos (grown). If you see phyt- in a scientific word, it means it has something to do with plants — for example, phytoplankton, tiny drifting marine plants (as opposed to zooplankton, tiny drifting marine animals).
The Latin word for “new” is novus, so a synonym for “neophyte” is “novice.”
Then, of course, there’s the good old Anglo-Saxon “newcomer.” English is a strange language. It gives you so many options.
74- [eyes bulge dangerously] Well, why don’t you READ them????????????????????
Robert, do you keep an encyclopedia next to your computer?
76- Is slightly scared. o.0
I’ll stick to danish… less complicated….
Velkommen nye mennesker! Velkommen alle sammen! Velkommen nybeboer! Velkommen begunere!
Excuse me, but what are spdzk points and piepoints? Thanks.
And 77 (Missswann)– Is your name supposed to be like Bella Swan? Just wondering. I also happen to love the Twilight Saga, and I own a signed copy of Eclipse.
76– You sound like my best friend,
yes, i’ve been wondering what these pie points are as well, do enlighten us poor unknowing neophytes!
I invented piepoints. I started with 10,000, but have been getting rid of them slowly. If you want some you have to trade with somebody who has them in their name (like me) They are a means of trading with people.
Red-tailed HAWK

80- The points are a PAIN! SPDZK points were invented a while back, by… (can’t remember). There are a hundred of them, and you can only get them by being given them or trading for them. Then there was a week when almost everyone had some system of points, but most of them died away. SPDZK points are accepted evrywhere as the real deal, and… well… some people also accept pie points. The KAG points are another point system, butr that ones very endangered, most probably almost extinct.
Soren and Tumsymonster: if you want them, then you can each get ½ a spdzk point.
79- Well, I started with the name MissSwann when I was RABIDfor Pirates of the Caribbean. [notice how there are two ‘n’s?]. But, actually, I never eally considered that I could be like Bella Swan… huh… Now I’ve kind of cooled down over POTC… I can still recite every line, though…
ANYWAY, could you mail me that signed copy???? Did you get it on Amazon????? Can I get one????? HELP ME.
Missswann: Unless you live near an Anderson’s Bookstore, I can’t help you. The copy was in their warehouse, and my mom had put it on reserve until she could pick it up. I don’t know, if you really wanted one, you could take a roadtrip, I guess…
Missswann – Okay, I’m sorry for making a valid assumption based on a creepy book cover. Happy?
Are there actually any neophytes here?
Nope, I don’t think so. And thanx, koko.
84- No, I don’t. I shall google it, though, and see how far my parents are willing to drive…
[googling]
Illinois. Darn.
hang on i’m a neophyte! but there definitely seems to be far more non-neophytes (is there an official word for those people?) than neophytes here.
87- We call them veterans or oldbies, although “oldbie” is usually used to refer to someone who has been around since the early days.
87- well, technically you are not a new neophyte. Have you tried some of the other threads yet?
Uh-oh, you’ve scared off the newcomers by calling them neophytes!
Red-tailed HAWK

Hello. I’m a neophyte (but I have been reading the blog for a while now, waiting for my chance). And now the day has come. Yay!
Happy ides of March!
We need the WELCOMING COMMITTEE here, please.
(91) Hello, Hypatia! From your name, is it reasonable to infer that you like mathematics?
91 – Hello! *waves* I like your name. However, I do not know what it means. Oh well.
Waving is a good start, but Hypatia really needs something involving crust, filling… a parabolic trajectory…
Ah.
*pies Hypatia with apple pie*
I still feel newish, for whatever reason, and undeserving of pieing people.
*pies self*
92-More along the philosophy lines
93- Hello!
94-Heheh, I can help with this
*PIESPIESPIES* *SPLATSPLATSPLOOSHSPLOPPLOPSPLAT*
Welcome, welcome, Hypatia! *Pies with apple pies* How did you hear about us, and how long have you been waiting? *Pies some more*
Red-tailed HAWK, The friendly one

Kari? You feel new? You came on October 5th of 2006, that’s only about a year after the blog was even started… You have full rights to pie people, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to… It’s up to you.
Red-tailed HAWK

91- Hello! What a lovely day to arrive on, don’t you think? *pies with ides pie*
96- WoW. You adapted fast. Most n00bs come on here and freak out a bit when we pie them…
Oh. Right.
*PIES WITH RHUBARB LICORICE PIE!*
**pies with nectarine pies**
Yay, pies galore!
Thanks everybody!
102- HERE! *pie*
I get no pies?
104- *pies* Of course you do. I didn’t actually notice you were new, though.
OMG. Soren and fluymsymonster haven’t been pied! *pies*
What to the usernames next to the “don’t forget these threads” mean?
107- Those are the names of the people that requested that that particular thread be placed on the Don’t Forget These Threads list.
My, I’m sounding formal today. It must be the history outline that I’m typing.
107- Oh, I almost forgot.
*pies*
Welcome, Hypatia. May I ask where/what your name derives from?
I still feel kind of neophyte-ish, but only because I leave for long periods of time, then reappear. I’ve been here since Oct. 2006, originally as fellowmuser.
Oops. I forgot.
*pies with cheese pies*
*pies everyone, most importantly Hypatia*
*licks pies of self*
Yum!
108-thanks
110-She was a Greek mathematician/philosopher with a cool name which I like typing.

Welcome to MuseBlog!
I feel so welcomed (and also very sticky)!
110- The last librarian of the Library of Alexandria, one of the first women to be a famous scientist, and in the end, a martyr to the cause of reason.
115- Wait, where did you get green?
*pies Hypatia, since everyone else is*
Hypatia, welcome to museblog. I am MissSwann, muser since (nibbles lip) 2006, I think. I shall now place the Wreath of Musiness upon your newbie head. May the Force be with you.
I just freaked mysef out!!! (geeee!!!)
118- 2007. April 9th.
*creeped out* Wow. M4aeiou knows more about me than I do.
121- Who’s here.
Yeah, I know, but still.
happy easter eve everyone!!
sorry for being a bit off topic, but i couldn’t find any topics to be on.
124- I like to call it Feather here on the Blog.
125- Call what Feather? People who can’t find something to say? Because that’s very Feather-ish… especially if it’sabout plants…
Happy Easter as well, to all of you!
126- easter. for no real reason.
… You call easter Feather? well, I’m sure feather would appreciate that and all, but… weird…
Huh??
Feather=Easter
I’m not sure how that works.
Not sure my self but they share a E, A, T,E,R
Ooh, ha ha, cool!
i’ve come up with a new rhyme for the top of the page:
if you’re new on the blog
don’t stay in a fog
come hither, come, haste thee,
for knowledge and, er, pastry
Oh my, we need lives.
132- How is that new
134- He changed two words.
132- Not very original.
134 – The third line has a comma instead of an exclamation point…
135 – Oh yeah, I see the change now. Ye was changed to thee and um to er.
132 – Original…?

133 – Some of us do…
Ha ha! I’ve never noticed that poem before! Awesome!
*pies newcomers*
139-Where have you been in the past four (or so) Welcome Threads?
Hey guys. Sorry I have not been able to come on the blog. I got caght up and almost forgot about it . I know. *pies self*
yay! I still remember how to do smielys! As of now, me, eragon, is inventing……*drumroll in distance*……Bullet points! my plant has made 10,000. I’ll stop there. I am feeling generous, 5,000 to Beavo and 5,000 to IBCF. By the way, IBCF, if you remember, you’re full name was Irregular Bump With Copius Fur. For the newcomers/neophytes (I mean that kindly) that is new info. Irregular Bump With Copius Fur, you should go back to using that name.
eragon.
141- Hi, eragon! *SPLAT* That was cherry.
Check out the Spokane Kokonvention thread! There’s pictures of me!
Yes IBCF! There are! Are you feeling happy!
*pies eragon with my famous chocolate kiwi pie*
