Script Frenzy Countdown

For those of you who don’t know, Script Frenzy is NaNoWriMo’s younger sibling, specifically for scripts. This year its auspicious opening day is April 1st. For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is…that’s National Novel Writing Month.

I’m not sure if I’m doing Script Frenzy this year. Hmm.

I have a month to decide, at least!

I could have sworn I saw an actual Script Frenzy thread a little while ago.

Did it get deleted, or am I going crazy?

Anyways, I want to try, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time…

    Is it during April?

But my script for this time may be titled The Unwilling Misadventures of Vince the Broccoli Stalk; Or Vlascar Goes to Madagascar, and that makes me happy. *laughs crazily*

(3, 14) Actually, about 5:30 this afternoon (blog time), Lady B. and I were both moderating, unbeknownst to each other, and both created Script Frenzy threads at the same time. As soon as I’d posted mine (called “Script Frenzy 2008”), I noticed that this one had appeared a few seconds earlier, so I zapped mine.

  19. A Mouse Named Alice says:

18- 100 pages. It used to be 20,000 words but they changed it. I’m not entirely sure how one measures pages on a computer. I mean, is it supposed to be double-spaced or single-spaced? Does the amount of pages vary depending on the word processor? How do you measure pages in Celtx?

I’m terribly excited about it. It’s going to be complete madness and I’m going to have so much fun.

  57. Jadestone says:

Soooo… my plot idea for the moment:

There’s a guy, I think 16 or 17. Normal, does well in school but doesn’t excel, all that jazz. He gets hit by a car or something ends up i hospital with a bunch of metal in his head. They try to take it all out and fix him and stuff, and he’s awake before they start surgery, but when it’s over he goes into a coma. I’m thinking for about 6 months. In that time, when he doesn’t wake on his own and doesn’t look like he’s going to, his parents agree to let some medicine company people test their drug on him. It works (for a bit), he wakes up, is mad he’s lost so much of his life, goes around doing stuff for a while in the hospital, then BAM! Relapse. For a few years though. So what does the company do? Use more medication of course! Which wakes him up eventually but also kinda screws up part of his brain related to motor skills so he has worse hand-eye coordination. Goodbye sports. And now he has officially missed his school graduation, does not want to go back, but wouldn’t be able to have a good job so is stuck doing tests for the med company. Sadness. More comas and stuff ensue, at least one lasting for a loooong time and his parents want to just let him go and end his suffering, cause he’s depressed and suicidal when he’s awake, but the company won’t let them do that either.

So that’s what I have so far. Not sure how any of it’s going to work. But there will be remembrance scenes and dreams to so I can write in places besides the hospital…

I’m definitely planning on doing Script Frenzy this year. It’s only about 3 pages a day, which is really easy if it’s only a script! :D

And I’m also going to try to win. The same thing happened with NaNo — I wasn’t aiming to win, but then as soon as I started, I decided that I did want to win.

She has two very different antagonists. The firs is a MBer who is very normal and nice, but finds a wierd site on the internat. “Adorable Planet-less master species looking for planet to inhabit. Must have H2O, (certain levels of) oxygen, Around 0 – 110 degrees farenheit. (Then comes some more stuff about radiation levels, so on). Must have live prey. Please send us an e-mail at slg_krmp_yfmmrvh@PlanetSearch.com.”

The lead HPB is Avfh. He responds to the invitaion by sending fifty egg shaped ships to the planet filled with HPB’s looking for a better life. They are technological geniuses and quickly conquer. All schools, factories (except those making canned foods) are shut down. Chaos reigns. Fields of grass quickly turn into fields of lettice and carrots.
In the reign of all thi schaos, Rosanne is surprised that the internet is stil up and running, although heavily censured by the HPBs. Rosanne does a little digging and discovers the HPBs’ only weakness.

    [I. Someone Like Him]

I never wanted to become someone like him so secure
Content to live each day just like the last
I was sure I knew that
    This was not for me
And I wanted so much more
Far beyond what I could see
    So I swore that I’d
    Never be someone like him

    So many years have passed
    Since I proclaimed
    My independence
    My mission
    My aim
    And my vision
    So secure
Content to live each day like it’s my last
    It’s wonderful to know
    That I could be
Something more than what I dreamed
Far beyond what I could see
    Still I swear that I’m
    Missing out this time

As far as I could tell
    There’s nothing more I need
    But still I ask myself
    Could this be everything
    Then all I swore
That I would never be was now
    So suddenly
    The only thing
    I wanted
    To become
To be someone just like him

    But there’s no guarantee
I feel it starting to take over me
I tell him not to be ashamed
There’s no one who’s to blame
    A second shot
    A brief awakening

    I feel the relapse
    Can’t break free
    Eyes open
But not getting through to me

He’s 15 years old, practical, doesn’t go out of his way to be nice or sugarcoat the truth, but a decent sort, and I get the feeling he doesn’t come from a high-class family. Not necessarily an orphan, definitely not too poor to live, but he lives in a grimy part of the city, and probably has discreetly mended garments. For a while I was calling him Conall, but there are a few problems with that, mainly that it clashes with his friend’s name. She’s Kirsti, and while I don’t really mean for it to be too Scandinavian, an Irish name is a bit too much. Not to mention they both start with a “k” sound.

149- Transition I believe is like fading to black between scenes, disolving them into each other, ect. Parentheticals go just under a characters name and above their dialouge, with things to describe motions they make or how they speak. So you could have:

Or, better yet, what if you DO die, and then other people have to go on some quest thing to revive you?

Right now you fall over backwards screaming while there’s a strobe light flashing. And for at least a few more scenes you’re going to be a hospital, whether dead or not, and then you’ll get revived, and then everyone will be happy.

    Maybe.

Now I’m off to go write. Right now my character-less characters are wandering around looking for some ruby that neither of them knows the first thing about. Maybe Peter will force Sasha to do some research. Or better yet! They get captured by the antagonist of the story, and unwittingly tell him about the stone. He does some research, and the overhear him talking about it. They escape, and go to the newly discovered location, but they have to fight him constantly. Yup. Sounds good.

    Oh, no. *dies*

I just had a new idea. That I love twenty times as much. So now I have a dilemma:
Do I grit my teeth and keep going with Sasha’s tale, growing less and less fond of the characters as I go, or do I take the new idea, have fun with it, and just accept that I’m many pages behind?

I’m opting for the latter. It should be much more fun. Sort of an insane tangled fairy-tale thing, but…not. I mean, only the setting is fairy-tale-ish. I’m not sure how I would do it without it turning into an “Enchanted Forest Chronicles” thing, but I think it would be easy enough….

At the same time, the only thing wrong with Sasha’s tale is the characters. Oh, and the entire plot.

    Ummm…

This is oddly reminiscent of last year… And NaNo. *dies again*

OK. I’ll stick with Sasha. Disnce writing down the new idea I’ve become increasingly unhappy with it, so obviously Sasha has a longer life. I just wish she acted her age.

    Hem. Hem.

    The second week slog
    Is a most abdominable bog,

I have fallen for that terrible bate,

Huh. I’m getting bored with my story. Even though they still have three villains to defeat, in this order:

    HPBs (apparently)
    Malacour
    Watson
    HPBs (really)

Oh, and we have to figure out Peter’s Mysterious Past. And maybe run into Sasha’s parents, whom she is attempting to spite by going on an Adventure without them.

But I want something fun to happen. This is kind of boring.

I have 35 2/3 pages. Still. But I’m hoping Scene Nine will make it a little more interesting.
SCENE NINE – IN WHICH A VERY PLEASANT HOUSE MEETING TURNS DISASTEROUS WITH THE ARRIVAL OF AN UNEXPECTED, AND QUITE UNWELCOMED, GUESS
    Doesn’t that just scream drama?

Anywhoo, following Hypatia’s lead I shall also compose a poem. For no real reason.

    I hate my script
    It bores me to death
I wish I was done with it
Like I’m done with this breath
    Maybe it would be easier
    To buy some time
    If every character
    Could only talk in rhyme
    That would certainly add pages
And be more interesting as well
    Something is telling me
    This idea is swell
    But, really, realistically
    How could this be?
    My characters won’t want to
    Can not you see?
Perhaps it could be a curse
    A jinx, or a spell
    A class for aspiring poets
    Might work, as well
    Whatever, I don’t care
My script bores me to death
I guess my characters will be rhyming
    With each and every breath
‘Til the writer’s block is broken
And my ideas are set free
    And, then, only then
Will I be filled with glee

No applause – just throw ideas.

Now I just have to figure out why they’re gifted with chocolate falling from the sky. I think it might be poisoned, but I’m not sure how we can find that out without killing one of them. I haven’t been updating my pagecount. Maybe I should. Gosh. So much stress. Not to mention…ENGLISH HOMEWORK *dies repeatedly*

Did anyone read mine? What do you think? I may replace it with the kangaroo scene.

316 – Keep it up for a little while (or post it on this thread) because I want to read it. But the Screnzy website is blocked at my school, so I won’t be able to until this afternoon.

    317 – Congratulations!

Hey! Scariest thing thats happened to me all year *dramatic music plays* I HAVE NO HOMEWORK! I am going to try to get to 35 today. : ) I checked the screnzy site today and updated my page count. I also checked everyone else’s excerpts and I absolutely adore them! It was so cool and exciting. I love!!! Okay, end of rant for now! I am off to write! Squee! Seeing the site made me so blooming excited!

320 – I’ve been really lucky so far in April that I’ve had almost no homework. For the first week it was Spring Break, and now I still have minimal homework. The only homework I have is (ugh) standerized testing practice. WHICH IS NEXT WEEK.
    Standerized Testing = Gag

My school’s bell just went off. It sounds like a fire alarm. I’m going to stop rambling now and write. Maybe.

  321. Hypatia (aka Hypatia) says:

321-Eep. That is lucky. My spring break was over on March 31. Brilliant right? Standardized testing is bleh to the extreme and so are bells that sound like fire alarms. : )

314-Thanks. Nice going. This sounds so corny so I think I’ll add *pies*

    Pie 0

  322. Cat's Meow says:

322 – Aww, that’s bad luck. One of things I remember Alice commenting on at the Kokon was how lucky I was to have Spring Break at the start of April. I honestly hadn’t even thought of it until then.
And testing = awful. And my school is good about it, too…
We don’t start WASL (That’s our state’s standardized test) prep until the week before. Some schools start in January.
AND MY LUCKY BROTHER GETS TO MISS THE WHOLE WEEK OF WASL PREP.

Wow, this post has nothing to do with Script Frenzy so far, does it?

I’m not going to get much writing done today. My dad and I are going over to a soccer teammate’s house to watch the NCAA women’s championship game. In case anyone’s wondering, GO STANFORD. ;)

I just can’t focus on writing today, can I? -sigh-

I am so infernally bored that I’m going to go write a Field and Lab report now.

    Instead of writing.

I’m at 43 pages. SO CLOSE TO FIFTY. And yet I lack the willpower to pull ahead.

NO! NO! Foul slog, begone! *hits Second Week Slog over the head with her shoe*

    OOH! Inspiration!

But I did need to write that report…

I think I need more dares. It’s funny. I can’t even write anymore unless I have dares. :? OH NOEZ, A DARE ADDICTION.

I’m pretty sure Ink’s going to turn out evil in my script. But that means I have to keep him in and keep him rhyming.

  345. Hypatia says:

345-What!!! I am at 34 pages and my WoCo is 8428. Thats odd. But I guess it has to do with whether the script is mostly dialogue or monologue. Mine is primarily monologues which shortens it significantly.

ARGH. I haven’t written at all in the past two days, and I’m leaving on the 17th and will have no access to a computer (or will I? *remembers Salmon Bowl trip and the hotel computers*) until the 20th.

I’m still at like 56-ish. I’ve had soccer practice like crazy for the past few days..and I have it tomorrow, too.

Script Frenzy has been incredibly helpful lately, though. In History this week we’re doing skits, and I could show off to everybody with my awesomely formatted scripts while everyone else was still using Microsoft Word – the amatures.

Oh, and my history teacher also happens to be the main drama teacher at our school (it’s a small school) and he suggested that I write a script over the summer that kids from our school would actually put on.

THAT WOULD BE SO COOL. @_@
    ILY, Script Frenzy!

Ugh. *wall resists all efforts at dynamite* My history paper sabotaged my stock. Adios!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  369. Alice says:

*borrows some of Meow’s dynamite* *bashes at the wall with hammer* *sits down in defeat* Sigh…

    *sighs again* *wanders off*

    Pie 0

  370. TNÖ says:

369- I… write fast. Especial when I find out that SF started nine days before the time of the beginning of the writing.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  371. Cat's Meow says:

I’m still stuck at 56. I don’t think I’ve written at all for about 5 days, except for a single line yesterday.

And I’m seriously considering randomly blowing up all of my characters. Except I’m one of them. Or maybe I’ll blow them up and then have everybody mysteriously come back to life. That sounds fun.

Ancient. Not. Infantile (well, thats a pretty accurate description of my maturity level but not of my biological age). I am honestly internet mortified, so I am scared to say. Lets just say, below 15 and above 10.
