  1. When I came here, it was still early in the evening, and I had the place to myself. While waiting for the others to arrive, I busied myself eating a slice of lemon meringue pie, and enjoyed the magical torture devices implements of old.

  2. I stride into what appears to be a magician’s theater, and pause for a moment to take in my surroundings. Even I realize how excellent everything looks. Seeing that only one other person is present, I head toward the refreshment table and help myself to a slice of pumpkin pie. As I eat, I revel in the novelty of eating on a stage, which I find more unusual than the levitating table.

  3. I fell asleep, and when I woke up I found myself in a marvelously decorated room. “How nice,” I thought. I hoped the dream lasted. It looked interesting.
All around the room were a variety of interestingly costumed people.
And the food! The food looked amazing. Too bad it was only a dream.

  4. I hurry inside, the carpeted aisle muffling the steps of my shiny metallic feet. Four hours, five minutes, and 17.5 seconds late for the party… At least I’m appropriately dressed– my black pantsuit is as unwrinkled as could be expected from a robot dressing herself.

The theater certainly feels mysterious and exciting. I catch a glimpse of something moving in an upper box out of the corner of my eye. I load the data to examine later. Social interaction with humans will require my full mental capability, and I don’t want to be distracted.

I climb the steps to the stage, walk around a pedestal on which a crystal ball is balanced, and notice a fish tank along the side of one wall. I walk over to investigate.

  5. A shadow falls over the water I’ve been resting in. I giggle, and rise up a little, startling the colorful fish that have been darting around me. A face is peering at me through the glass. I blow whoever it is a bubble-kiss.

  7. I finish eating my pie, and notice someone walking around in a dazed and slightly awed fashion, as if en was dreaming. I make my way over to en and say hello.

  8. “Hello,” I say to the stranger who has walked up to me. Well, at least I can talk. In some dreams, I can’t talk, and that’s never very good. “Where am I?”
“This is the Muse Academy Halloween ball,” en replies. “Didn’t you know?

  9. The dazed person seems a bit confused. Perhaps en has amnesia? I know what that’s like, so I try to smile sympathetically. I’m not very good at smiling, having gone without smiling for so long, but hopefully I’ve managed it correctly. “Is this your first Halloween Ball?” I ask.

  10. I waltz in to the room wearing a horned mask and carrying a large clear juggling ball.

“Dance magic dance,” I sing to myself.
