239- Yes, it would be a similar system to the Alter Ego thread. Everyone wears “masks†(false blog names). The GAPAs might not have as much fun considering that they would be able to see our e-mail addresses… but I’m sure they could play along. They might even log out of their Administrator accounts and join the ball incognito.
The decorations… Since this is MA, it will obviously not be a standard Halloween bash. I’m envisioning a combination of 19th-century masque ball and quasi-Welsh Festival of Samhain. There will be candy, of course, but quality confections, not cheap department-store stuff. I’m sure the H&H could cater… they’ve always been admirably versatile. Eclairs galore. And vast quantities of hot apple cider for those coming in out of a chilly Icelandic autumn.
As for the music, perhaps an appropriately spooky and Celtic selection… “Black Jack Davy,†for example, among others.

243- I was imagining the same thing. How wonderful. Decoration-wise, I’m thinking jack-o-lanterns and tons of candles. At the Surreal Ball last year there was this huge silver basin with a bunch of tea lights in it. ‘Twas gorgeous.
We should have a fondue fountain. And cider, definitely. Maybe little tarts as well.

243- and a GIANT pumpkin! Carved with the Muse Academy Logo!

243- A Halloween Ball would be fun. Maybe we could add a mystery party element, too. Like a scavenger hunt with the decorations that you can choose to play or ignore, but the winner would get a reward.

245- Love it! Maybe the Hon. Lady Bunniful could work her Photoshop magic to get a picture of it on the thread.
246- How could we arrange that, though? It would be hard to do a scavenger hunt when everything is virtual… if everyone was a good sport, we might pull it off.
247- Enough to give the Committee a thread of its own?
I’ll compile everything that’s already been said.
-runs off to Suggestion Box-
Sweet! Another ball! I think decorations and food are the most important things, along with costumes. It will be a costume party, I assume?
First post!
Starts at Dusk (When’s Dusk in Iceland?) And goes until NaNo Starts.
Mask Ball:
“The entire point of masque balls is that no one knows who you are. Of course, that may be a little difficult over the ‘net, but I have an idea for how to manage it. You could take on the name of your costume, like “The Lady with the Feathered Headdress†or “The Gentleman in the Elizabethan Ruff†or even “The Lion†or maybe “George Washington.—

Scavenger Hunt:

“It would be hard to do a scavenger hunt when everything is virtual… if everyone was a good sport, we might pull it off.”
Costumes:
Mask required
You can send in pictures, of course, but it would be more fun if you sent them in and asked the GAPAs not to say who sent it.
Food:
Eclairs
Fondue fountain
Pumpkin tarts/pies
Apple tarts/pies
Drink:
Hot apple cider
Question: I assume this is to be held in the same ballroom as the May Day Ball. After all, how many ballrooms can one school have? But, will we be using the rooftop garden?
6 – Of course! It can be decorated too.
Oooh, this sounds fun!
4- At dusk when? Halloween? But that way the thread will only be active for a day! -horrified-
6- It will probably be a bit chilly in the garden, but, if need be, we can use it.
There had better be bobbing for apples. It’s not an All Hallow’s Eve party without bobbing for apples.
Oh, fabulous! I am excsplided!!!!
6- Perhaps we can make it a haunted rooftop garden? Ohhh, we can use a fog machine…
So, will this be in costume? For, I plan to dress as Rosalie Hale after she killed the man who raped her… I will be terrifying. But I can find a Halloweeny dress/mask online…
We could use the holograms from Almost-Magic class to put “ghosts” in the ballroom.
Rooftop garden? of course, if you want to get attacked by bunnies.
small edit:
Food:
Eclairs
Fondue fountain
Pumpkin tarts/pies
Apple tarts/pies
Bombe
Wung Buttons
Bengal Spice hot tea
Drink:
Hot apple cider
Bengal Spice hot tea (very spicy and sweet)
Limeade
Lattes
about it.
Costume requirements:
that it’s weird.
This should be a little less awkward than the MDB. With the wedding and everything…
What a fabulous idea!
The rooftop garden may be too cold Oct. 31. I say nay to that.
Other drinks:
Punch
Will we have candy there? I hope so. Lots and lots of candy…
11- GAH! You just gave away your disguise!
5-I’m not sure if the name of the costume thing would work. It would probably be easier if we just had alter ego names. (That aren’t as crazy as the ones on the Alter-Ego thread. ) We should definitly say what our costume looks like, but not use it as our name.
11-The rooftop should definitly be haunted. That would be awesome!! After all, it will be Halloween……
The mausque idea is great. It will be slightly spooky not to know who everyone is…But I think we should be able to find out who everyone was after the ball is over.
NO. BUNNIES.
Seriously. They’ve invaded every other part of the Musiverse. Can’t we just have a masque ball without having to fight off bunnies and rabid chipmunks? OK, you can dress as a bunny, but no real ones.
Now. How about scheduling? We could have it take up the entire month of October, but that leaves us only two days to continue planning. On the other hand, we could start it on the 31st and continue through November, but everyone would be too wrapped up in NaNo to attend.
How about we begin on Canadian Thanksgiving (13th) and finish on Halloween itself?
17- I agree. About the bunnies. I’ve got to admit, it’s getting old.
The 13th through the 31st is good. It’ll be shorter than May Day, which may help prevent it getting out of hand, and then we have time to plan. Plus, it’s cool that it starts on the 13th.
Can we send in pics of our costumes?
Even if there are are no bunnies, something interesting could happen. Maybe all the food could be mysteriously stolen and we have to find it, or someone can see a ghost in the ballroom.
May I help out? I’ve always had an interest in decorations.
So this is a masque? Wow, it sound delightful! I already know what I’m going to be. *excitement*
As for the rooftop haunt, I think it would be delightful, but the participants would have to bring jackets if they wanted to go inside. As Nilly pointed out, it tends to be verrry cold in October. I can lend you my fog machine, animated ghouls and possible a disco ball with halloween charecters over each pane of glass, for use at the ball. If we wanted to get funky or anything.
I wonder if it’s perhaps too late to join in on the muse academy activities? I believe I’m in Spector House…IN any case this all sound very interesting, so at the least I will be lurking the thread. I’ve always hated Halloween but this makes me rethink that a bit.
20- I suppose so.
Personally I’d like to have a nice quiet ball, with good food, good music, and good conversation. But I think I may be one of only a few who think that way.
Masquerade! Paper faces on parade! Masquerade! Hide your face!
I think using the garden as a haunted house would be fun.
I think the 13th-31st would be good.
21,22- By all means, join the festivities! Or, well, the planning for festivities at this point.
23- No, I agree! A nice quiet ball with good food, good music and good conversation, and no wild adventures!!!
22- Hated Hallowe’en? Why? Ideological reasons, or just the fact that what meaning it had is now gone and it serves as a vehicle for the mass-market candy companies?
EVERYTHING SOUNDS AWESOME!!!!!!
I really like the giant pumpkin, masquerade, mystery/ scavenger hunt, timing (13th-31st), rooftop, but will the beginning of the thread be to describe what everything looks like? or will it be left to people’s imaginations. I like the idea of making the masquerade ball like the alter egos thread, but I think that if you have an idea of who is in what costume, you should keep it to yourself and then see if you’re right when we reveal who we were on, how about the first of November? or some other time like that. we should be allowed to send in pictures of what our costumes look like. while all of these things are all great, something quieter might also be nice. maybe we could have two? or at least two sections? a quieter one inside and something HUGE outside?
I know what I shall be. Now, for Leafy… I shall decide on that. But I will have to assume another name so you won’t find out who I am. Will we unviel ourselves on the last day?
I know how to make great Halloween decorations! I’ll help with the entrance!
I agree with the 13th-31th. It’s very neat, 1331. Like a Carrollian Mirror Reflection.
16-Please, let’s use the name of the costume. It seems like a very good idea.
I can coordiante candy with the H&H.
*Gasp* Ooooh, this looks great! Although I would imagine a Halloween Ball to be on the Eastern seaboard, preferrably in a haunted colonial mansion with a large ballroom and maple trees, with leaves blowing across the threshold and candles in molded pewter holders…but Iceland’s good too.
23–I agree with you. I think this should be a dignified occasion–fun and lively, but still with decorous taste. Although a few ghost-spottings, I think, are in order.
Are we describing our costumes yet?
I agree with the no hpbs. But there should definitly be something spooky. Like the Rooftop Garden haunt idea.
Maybe it shouldn’t be on the 31st because SOME of us like to trick-or-treating
I think it should be a regular ball, no mystery thing that happens. I mean seriously, not every single one of our threads have to be some kind of adventure/mystery thingy.
31- No! That’s the point of a masque ball, you describe your costumes under a false name so nobody knows who you are.
15- Then I shall think of a new one! *musemusemuse* Got one! Now no one will know who I am…
17- OH NOES! A PARTY CRASHER!!!!!!!!!!! OH NOOOES!!!!
20- Heck, we should INVITE ghosts! Yay!
27- Yes, the way America has commercialised Hallow’s Eve is quite sad. It’s actually a highly interesting holiday if you skirt around the plastic ghost lawn decorations and the jumbo-packs of candy.
28- We describe how everything looks on the planning thread.
If any other neophytes need help on planning, use the MDB planning thread for reference.
34- Perhaps we could have a segment of time where we be masquerade’d, then we could wear costumes and ‘be’ things (ie, witch, black cat, hpb…)
Twill be fun!
The hard part will be not picking a costume that gives you away immediately.
so, what do we have so far?
1 masque ball
2 on the rooftop
3 mostly just a normal ball but possibly a ghost sighting or something
4 no HPBs
5 from the 13th to the 3st
6 candy from the H&H
anything else?
also, how are we going to decide when ghost sightings happen.
otherwise EVERYONE’S going to say they see a ghost. everyone’s going to want in on the ghost sighting thing.
also, because people do go trick-or-treating in real life, how can we have it on the 31st?
maybe we can end it on the first of November.
I’m in America and Iceland time is different from American time.
It can be the 31st on the last day in Muse Academy, but it could be November first in real life. also, I assume the last day will be the biggest and wildest of the whole event, and November first is a Saturday, no school and more time on museblog.
37- No, won’t do. November 1st is NaNo. Half the population of MB will have severed the internet cord and be shut up in dark rooms typing.
Why not the 30th instead?
39 – That could work.
The problem with the 31st is that lots of people (myself included) will be at parties or trick-or-treating, and Alice pointed out the obvious pitfalls of doing it on the first. But the 30th sounds fine for the grand finale.
38- I doubt we will’ve severed the internet cord; merely reconnecting it when we feel the desire to go “OMGGGG!!! 3900 words!!!!!” and so on.
39- Aha! The infinite genius of Ms. Lasley strikes again!
30th is fine with me. Except it’s a Thursday. I was thinking maybe it should be on a weekend, so we have more time to post. On weekdays I practically have no time to post now because of school, and my dad just locked the computer. So yeah.
38- oh, yeah, right.
39- well I guess the 30th will be okay, but like I said, people have school and work, and the last day will probably be the biggest.
*sighs* I guess we don’t have much choice.
the 30th it is. unless someone has a better idea.
so are we going to describe the party in the planning thread or in the actual thread where the party will take place?
35- I kind of like the idea of inviting ghosts.
also, wasn’t there some story arc with a ghost who was the rejected muse of scary stuff? he might have some role in this, maybe.
Whatever the case, the likelihood is that no matter what day you choose, the unmasking will proceed over several days, anyway. So you could start it on the 30th and continue through the weekend for those who can’t make it to the blog on Thursday.
43- Oooh! The Halloween Revenge of Boo, the Muse of Scary Stuff!
44 – That’s a good idea.
Did we ever decide when the ball would actually start? I heard the 13th – was that decided on?
44 – That’s true. The May Day Ball lasted about a month.
45- Boo? As in Radley?
Never mind…
45 – Hey, that’s a BRILLIANT idea!
WAIT!!!!!!!! In my town we trickortreat on the 30th!!!!!!!!! How about the 29th?
47 – It was planned that way, wasn’t it?
Did the wedding ever actually happen?
50 – I like Rebecca’s idea of having the unmasking happen over the course of several days. We could have it (the unmasking) from the 29th to the 31st, or something like that.
51 – I don’t know.
The wedding never happened. HAWK and Swann are still engaged.
How about we have it for the whole week, and then at the end of the week, we unmask ourselves?
((I fell like a Neophyte again, but what is NaNo?))
53 – I’m fine with that.
54- NaNoWriMo. National Novel Writing Month, which takes place throughout November. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I failed last year, and it was stressful and depressing, so I’m not doing it, but the faster writers on the blog managed to finish.
54- National Novel Writing Month. This year (if you sign up on the website) you have to write a 50,000 word novel by November 30th. That’s technically it.
56- I think I shall try with the adventures of Scavenger, which I started on the writing challenge.
I think the entrance to the main ballroom should be shrouded in black cloth. And can I donate Jack O’ Lantern cupcakes to the snack table? ^-^
56- Even now, I’m getting my typing muscles pumped.
HOW DO THREADS GO THIS FAST IN ONLY ONE DAY????
Okay, so can I join Muse Academy? Where’s the current MA thread?
This is gonna be GREAT!!!
53- I think whatever the unmasking should be as long as is good for the story, but we could have a week be the limit.
17, 18-You don’t need HPBs to be scary. Remember the last Rooftop Garden thread? “Then I will dance. Oh yes. I will dance.”
That was admittedly more strange than scary, but you know what I mean.
(59) A wise idea. That much typing can be painful, as well as exhausting, without working up to it
Ooh! I’ve never attended one of these!
*is excited*
OOH! Sounds fun! I’d draw and send a costume, of course…or snatch one off the internet and alter it…
Philomena: HEY! I wanna go! I can get GREAT costumes, can’t I, Crystl?
Crystl: Yeah, you do! Last year you got me that COOOL cat costume with tattoos and EVERYTHING!
…wait. You’re not even BORN yet, you guys! You can come, I guess (don’t buy a costume from 2008!), but YOU’RE NINE AND SEVEN!
Philomena: …you’re ten. And I don’t think you’re going as your blogself, who’s 15, are you?!
…Ok, you’ve got a point there. I’ll probably go as my blogself, anyway (she’s more fun and easy to go as (I’m SHORT! T_T)) , but ‘Mena and Crystl will have drawn costumes. Blogself me will have an edited costume…
post 19?
64 (19)-How? I mean, I guess we could, but I’m not that good an artist, and I’m not experienced with computer techniques. We could just send in pics if we wanted to and not if we didn’t. Good description works as well as pictures.
63-When are they supposed to buy a costume from? 2020? That would be cool…..
48- No, while Boo Radley was rather scary, this Boo is different.
52- That’s right! Gosh, we could have a Halloween wedding!!! That would be so cooool… I could be a gothic bride!!! Yuss!!! I need to find Hawk…
59- We should develop a finger excercising routine that all NaNoers do once daily.
64/5- I would guess so; they let us on the MDB. You just e-mail them to the GAPAs and let them work thyeir magic. And time traveling costumes! How magnificent!
29-Are you two people, or one person posing as two people? I’m confused…
Ohhh, there are some absolutely gorgey dresses on gothicweddingdresses.com. ^^
68 – Leafygreen is a separate person, who is often in Zinc’s name. She has posted on her own once or twice, though.
This talk of a pumpkin with the MA logo makes me want to carve it. I did Kokopelli a while back, if anyone remembers…
Also, as I assume this will be more than a day long, I think it would be vastly better if it started before the 31st. And that would be the finale of the party.
Because otherwise, it would be during Nano, and I (and many others) wouldn’t be able to atend
70- And her groundment shall end very soon, so she’ll be able to post again.
An online sunrise-and-sunset calculator for Iceland reveals that on October 31, the sun will set about 5:13 p.m.
If the party starts just after dark (say, at 5:30 p.m.) and wraps up at midnight, then it’s six-and-a-half hours long by Muse Academy time. If it starts on the blog on October 13 and lasts through October 31, then it’s 19 days long by MuseBlog time. So if we set each MuseBlog day equivalent to 20 minutes of party, then we should wind up just about right. (October 31 itself would have to be 30 party-minutes long, but that should be manageable.)
That’s one possible solution, anyway.
Okay, this all sounds pretty awesome, after reading through the whole thread. Let me try and get it down in one post, mostly to make everything clearer in my own brain, and maybe for everyone else’s convenience too. Tell me if anything is wrong… :
The 2008 Muse Academy Halloween Ball
Who: Any MuseBloggers who wish to participate, but costumed and posting under corresponding alter-egoed names. You may send in a picture of your costume to the GAPAs, but detailed descriptions would work just as well.
When: Starts October 13, final conclusion around the 29th, but unmasking will progress over the next few days.
Where: On the Halloween ball thread. On MuseBlog. In Muse Academy, of course, possibly in a rooftop garden, if the weather is warm enough to permit it.
Food and Decor: Appropriate food, such as eclairs and apple cider (see a much more detailed list in comment 13) will be catered by H&H. Decorations will be tasteful and elegant, probably 19th century style, with not a shred of plastic or crepe paper in sight. Typical decor will include jack-o-lanterns and many candles. A giant pumpkin with the Muse Academy logo carved into it is essential.
The Going-ons: As of yet undecided. Possibly a scavenger hunt, if it is, in some way, feasible. Probably will end up fairly calm, with sophistication at every turn and minimal craziness/wild adventures.
Important: No bunnies. You may dress as one if you so wish, but no bunny attacks or the sort. Srsly.
Well, there’s my rundown of the whole caboodle! Correct me if I’ve mistaken anything, please.
74- That’s a brilliant summary, except for one thing.
Starts October 13, ends October 31, with the unmasking happening from the 29th onward into November if necessary.
Hmmmm….. we need a group of hired servants to walk around with drinks and food.
76-Ever heard of wungs?
You were up at 4:14 ? I’m really hoping that’s because of different time zones……
Post 60, questions two and three?
77- I honestly don’t know. Sorry! Ask someone else.
There should be a 1900s style candy bar. ^^ Twill be fab!!!!!
77- She’s in Denmark (?)
I’m in. I’d like to echo Alice and POSOC; keep it quiet, with the dramatic unmasking being one of the most exciting things to happen.
NO HUGE ADVENTURES, bunnies or otherwise.
Scavenger hunts are fine, however.
Are costumes required, or is it just formal dress and masks?
81-I believe costumes are required, but perhaps not!
How lovely! I still can’t figure out what I”m going to be for {Holloween yet though.
65-…They’ll get costumes. Somehow. Philomena kept bugging me to let her go get one from a con, so I said yes.
…I’m an idiot. I mean, she’s mature and all that, but she can EDIT like crazy!
…Expect her to be in a awesome costume. I, however, cut my blogself hair.
Crystl might come, but she’s only SEVEN. She’ll find a costume, at least…
77- I am in Denmark, I was on all morning, but, actually, I was up at 4.44 last night, and the night before that, and the night before that. And since I’m preparing to sneak out again, I’ll be up at around that time again tonight. I love boarding school.
I’m deciding on my costume right now.
I believe that some form of costume should be required. If you want to be somewhat un-costumey, then just wear formal wear with a masque. ^^
Hmmmm…..I need to start thinking of what I’m going to wear.
I really think the rooftop garden should be haunted. The cold would just add to the spookyness!!
Ooh! A Halloween ball! We could transform the MA hall into something Victorian, like the highest tower Jack Skellington’s mansion. That would be shweet.
Ew, formal wear. I don’t think you HAVE to wear formal wear, but masks are required if no costume is available.
Now I’m going to get Masquerade from the Phantom of the Opera in my head again. Great job, everybody.
I’ll email you a costume, GAPAs. I’ll also take care of music, if you would grant me permission.
88- Costume or formal. Or both. NO CASUAL.
90-WHAT is wrong with casual? For girls, it’s one thing, because they can choose from a bunch of crazy awesome dresess. But for guys, there’s like, a tux, a Gerard Way tux, or really dressy uncomfortable stuff.
I pick Gerard Tux, but I’m dressing up as Jeffree Star, so too bad.
Will this be put out as a public announcement on the blog, not just as the name of a thread?
It will probably attract a lot more guests that way- I happened along this thread purely by chance.
89- I think everyone should be in charge of music; we can request songs and such during the ball.
91- Well, you could go in drag, Beev. Or you can wear some cool old fashioned Darcy-esque clothes… or some zany Panic at the Disco-esque suits… but yes, girls do have it better off in the fashion variety dept.
49- that was MY idea, and now I’m not so sure about it.
62- this is my first one, too
77- what is a wung? and not the wung points?
80- I agree, no huge adventures ans certainly no bunnies.
maybe something small like a ghost sighting, but other then that, Nothing.
I’m just going to describe my costume.
I’m not sending in a picture or anything.
So when is it going to start and end? 13-31st?
13-30th?
when will it be?
It can’t end on the 31st,(It will conflict with real-life trick-or-treating) and I think someone’s town does trick-or-treating on the 30th, so when will it be?
91- Pretty much ditto Alice in 90, you can go costume as well.
Casual would be out of place, and formal is nice, but costume is always an option! Forget it not!
I’m under an alter ego because I need some opinions on my costume choice- I want to go as a “The Lady Peacock.” The problem is, I am a female, and the only snazzeh pecocks are the male ones. Should I go ahead with my plans for a purple and blue dress or convert it to a river niad costume or something like that?
95- Think Mrs. Peacock from Clue.
…
Actually I was considering going as a naiad. Or a dryad. Hm.
Dryads are cooler, in my opinion. However, both trees and lakes are hard to drag around a ballroom…
So… costumes. For me in real life, I was thinking Princess Leia but I need to get opinions from classmates (I’m in high school )
I was thinking going as a… as a… I need help.
‘Mena has started costume-brainstorming. She has decided on something like Philomena’s teen stage from Gaia Online’s Hybrid Technica…
…slightly cool.
I go as a W.I.T.C.H character…get ready to EDIT, girl!
98- yay star wars!
96- they’re both pretty cool. I kinda like dryads better.
I was thinking of going as either Link from Legend of Zelda, Legolas from Lord of The Rings, or Axel from Kingdom Hearts, or as Jack Sparrow, or as *gaaaaaaaaah! someone stop me before I name every possible geeky costume!* any suggestions?
I think Mr. Baker did an absolutely wonderful job with the music last event, perhaps he would lend some of his skills to this ball too?
I’m thinking of being boring and just dressing like a seafaring ghost. Stick to what you know, right? I might be guessed too easily. Although when I say sea, others may be brought to mind.
I like the naiad idea, This be an Alter ego, but If I could make a suggestion, a crinaeae naiad would occupy a central fountain nicely.
80- That’s a good idea. Just a scavenger hunt and a few (real or otherwise) ghost sightings. Boo’s Revenge would be cool, but too exciting.
100- geeky? I believe you mean awesome.
I’m considering going as the Blood Countess… for anyone who hasn’t heard that story, she was the one who bathed in maidens’ blood to keep herself young… yuck.
I’m DEFINITELY submitting a picture (love to draw, and can’t miss a design opportunity like this)
103- Like Queen Ginevra in The Stolen Lake! Only, you know, with blood baths instead of bone porridge.
*feels confused* I haven’t read/ seen that, but it’s probably a similar idea.
Wow- I will totally be neglecting my homework for the second half of October. I am NOT missing this ball
103- She was real. 0_o
Hm, for the ball I’m still deciding whether just to go in plain costume or a real masque costume. I had this great Athena costi=ume I could go as, but Athena doesn’t wear masks. T_T
103- so you read my post, can you maybe give me a suggestion on what to be?
for school (we get to go in costumes), I was planning to be a fairy. For the ball… what is the ball anyway??? I’ve been super duper busy lately and our dial up connection hasn’t been working..
oh, and I’m not sick. I have today off cause it’s Rosh Hashanah.
107-Kingdom Hearts? Does that feature Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in it?
We don’t do Halloween, but I would be Roxas from the above mentioned game.
93-Of course, I’m a drag queen next halloween. My friends think it should be my profession. I have perfected my “My name is Latisha, but you can call me Coco” routine.
Although I didn’t think of Panic!, I might do that. It’s a lot less black then the Gerard Way tux, anyways.
What should I be? I’m debating. Let’s see… *tries the Party City website* Crap. Nothing’s good there.
What about:
– Princess Leia (Hoth for trick-or-treating )
– Padme Amidala
Wow, that’s sad. Any other suggestions suitable for a high school girl?
Why are we all being anonymous?
112-A Sybil?
107- You bet it does, well the first one does.
110- why don’t you do Halloween? Roxas Rocks! The organization is awesome. I wish I had a PS3 so I could play KH3, and I wish I had an organization cloak, hey! that would be a great real-life Halloween costume!
106- why not go as Athena wearing a mask? If Athena doesn’t wear masks regularly, maybe she’s wearing one because it’s Halloween! use your imagination! I’m freaking myself out here!
112- I kinda like princess Leia better than Padme, do you want to go as a star wars character, or do you just like those two costumes?
108- It’s the muse academy Halloween ball. Our muse academy characters go to a virtual masque ball. you should just the thread and you’ll understand everything.
Now I’d like some input from people for my costume choice:
A kingdom hearts character
The mad hatter
robin hood
legolas
jack sparrow
can I go as a character from a novel I’m writing?
(not for NaNo, just for fun)
113- because when we go in costume, we’ll be masked and it’ll be like the alter ego thread. we’ll say what our costume is instead of our name, and then at the end we unveil.
some people want suggestions or input for costume choices and they don’t want people to know who’s in what costume from that, so they ask for advice anonymously.
Now, when exactly does it end?
it starts on the 13th, right?
but when does it end?
29th? 30th? 31st?
please, I need to know!
Leafy told me today what she wants to be for the ball, and I’ve thought up another idea.
Gah, I have a Demi Lovato song stuck in my head! Curses!
116- It starts whenever a GAPA makes a thread. Probably the 13th. It ends whenever said GAPA closes said thread. Probably not the 31st. The May Day Ball (Part 2) thread is still open, at time of posting. But we could have an official end, if there was a need. Why do you need to know?
118- I just need to know whether or not I’ll be there (I need to go out into the wilderness for a couple days without a computer for my schools “nature studies” or whatever and I needed to know if I’d miss the ball.) also I just wanted to know
If we want to put in a picture of our costume, what do we do?
119- Easy as pie. First you save the document (if you already haven’t). Second, you log onto your email and attach your document to it. Then, address it to the email address gapa @ musefanpage.com (right?) and send it. Done.
Not sure what I’ll go as. Maybe one of the Men in Back. That would be somewhat scary.
Men in Black! Fnord.
Holy cake! What happened to secret costumes/semi-AE type ball? I thought we would show up in costume with a different name, and have people guess at our true identities, as is the norm at many Halloween parties. Or did we decide not to do that? This thread grew way to suddenly for me to read all the posts.
We’re still doing the secret thing. Emphasis in post 121 should be on the “not sure”. I’ve got a few other costume ideas.
Um, people? Can I join MA or not? Please please pretty please?
125- Sure thing!
125- Of course! I’d say to get started, a house placement test would get you straightened out. I’ve misplaced it though. It’s around here somewhere. Erm, try looking at past MA threads. A few questions, and you’ll know whose house to go to for further guidance.
98- There is NOTHING wrong with dressing up as Princess Leia for halloween when you are in high school. Go as what you want!
127- Thanks! Actually, I’ve already taken the placement test several times. I’m in Spector House, I think. So all I need to know now is…… where is the current MA thread? Is it the RPG, or is there a separate thread for just doing regular school stuff whenever you don’t feel like putting yourself in mortal danger?
Oh yeah, also about MA……. do you have any problems with accepting a student who’s gone for four months of the school year? It’s sad, and true. I live on a boat from December till April, with no internet.
-129, no problems, I don’t really care about what happens in spector house anyway, but welcome to Muse Academy! I’m in Coontz house. We welcome you with pies!
and it is in the RPGs. right now we’ve just cooled down after some adventure I wasn’t there for, so you’ll be almost as lost as I am right now. We can have regular classes but sooner or later there is always some thing that happens like, evil ghost pirates attack us (Which has happened)
also, why are you on a boat from December till April?
Anyway,
So are we going to have some special thing like ghost sightings or some mystery thing at the ball?
or will it just be normal.
I’m voting for normal with a few ghost sightings.
no. i am obsessed with ghosts. LOTS OF GHOST SIGHTINGS!!!
123- Me and Leafers have SECRET costumes, and we’re not telling anyone what they are…
130-Yeah, I gathered that. That it’s confusing, that is. Okay, I’ll head over.
Um, how to explain it simply? My mom lived on a boat from ages three to twelve, and when she grew up she wanted to go back to sea. Yeah, I know it sounds kinda romantic. It’s not, when you get there. But anyway, that’s basically why. We’ve been doing it for five years now.
Ghost sightings: Why not? But it’s usually funner if we let things happen as they happen. That is, let’s not plan it too much right now.
Living on a boat sounds just awesome to me. But the lack of internet connection would be frustrating. I think I will have to try it one day.
I either want to see a few ghosts around the edges, or have to wade through them tactfully. Please don’t let every other post be “OMG I SAW A GHOST” though. It could get in the way of the dancing. Which reminds me, Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens is a great song that fits the theme.
I agree- too many ghost sightings would waste space and ruin it for a lot of people. We should try to keep it toned down (if that’s the word for it :D)
131- Ever been to ghostvideos.net?
I’m voting for a ghost sighting of a dead bride-to-be, searching desperately for her husband, drafted off to war the night before the wedding. ^^ But that’s just me and my romantic drama obsession…
You know, that makes for an interesting NaNo idea… *gears in head click*
GAPAs, this is not the normal blogself, this is (person named after kittygirl!)
My idea. I LONG for it!
Will the sightings be of real ghosts or some sort of special effect? Just curious.
Real ghosts. I know a few nice ones. I’ll invite them right away.
MIssSwann: Does anyone think my idea is cool?
We should have a black light near the entrance, next to the fog machine. The we should hang a big black cloth over the ceiling to help punctuate the candles. The walls and floor must be black, too, and there most be lots of candles and candlebras all over the place.
Ah, fog machine? Hold on, I missed something. *re-reads thread*
I was more under the impression that it would be a more traditional 19th century style-ish ballroom, like…
(if this is allowed)
Possibly? But darker, with candles and pumpkins and such.
Hm, actually thinking about it, a fog machine wouldn’t be too bad, as long as it’s disguised and fog isn’t simply EVERYWHERE. Which would just be annoying.
But in general, I am leaning more towards a historically authentic masquerade than a modern-ish Halloween party.
Creepy Candlebras!
113 – I don’t want anybody to guess me too soon.
114 – A what?
115 – I dunno, those are just the only ones I can think of.
128 – I dunno. I think I will go as Princess Leia to school.
My list:
~ Princess Leia
~ Padme Amidala
~ A hippie ( )
I need a costume that will go well with a winter jacket. ALL SUGGESTIONS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.
145- you’re Kokonilly. Stop blogging on KB with ” s” if you want to remain unidentified.
I’m going as my BA character.
145- Zombie killed in the freezing cold.
146-I suppose I could do that too. But really, other than that, I have no ideas at all. Any suggestions? I’m a girl, but it would be kinda cool to have a boy’s costume, so it doesn’t really matter.
146- That’d be fun. I’ll look into that…
143- I’m with you. Very traditional. I think it would be fun to learn about All Hallow’s Eve traditions from antiquity. There should be less angels on the ceiling, though. And baroque music in a minor key. I think baroque would be better than Elisabethan. No offense, Master Baker. I just think it would be creepier.
Help meeeeeee!!!!!!! I have no ideas whatsoever, I don’t know any good movie characters, and the ball starts in a week!!!
151- Think of an aspect of your personality or an interest you have and then think of costumes that are related. If you liked swimming, you might go as a mermaid, a scuba diver or a dolphin. If you liked ancient history, you might go as a Roman soldier, Cleopatra, or even Indiana Jones!
152-You. Are. Kidding. About. The. Mermaid. Right?????
Indiana Jones…… That’s what I’m talking about. I have never seen an Indiana Jones movie.
So. Following your advice, I’ve come up with:
with……..
Um. I’ve come up with nothing. Urgle. Sorry, your advice is good, but I really don’t have any…… Oh, wait! Yeah! Hmmm…… There’ll probably be at least two other people doing it…….. hmm…….. maybe not, but………. maybe……. I’m not that tall……. but I guess I could be a…….hmmmmm.
Maybe. But I’m still open to suggestions.
I made an effective ghost costume once, using a sheet, a tube of white face paint, and a dancer’s hood. I carried clanky, clattery chains. You could try something like that.
I just noticed this thread. (I don’t go to the main page anymore, firefox remembers my tabs and I go to the pages whose tabs I have open.) I say yea to the rooftop garden.
ATTENTION, PLANNING COMMITTEE (i.e., everyone): If the Ball begins on the 13th, should we wait until then to post costumes?
156- Good question. I say wait.
153- I think a mermaid might be a fine idea. It doesn’t have to be the stereotypical mermaid. Have you read a really good book lately? Or THF suggested being any inanimate object.
157- p’Aye.
I know what I’m going to be, but I’m leaving it a surprise. At the ball, I’ll have a false name that is what I’m dressed as, and people can try to guess who I am. If no one guesses it after a hundred or so posts, I’ll reveal who I am.
159- When the ball ends (around the 29th through November first or so… has this been decided?), there will be a period of unmasking, where everybody will reveal themselves.
158-I have bad memories concerning dressing up as a mermaid. Let’s leave it at that.
I might go as a ghost. But not the sheet-with-eyeholes kind. Just, like, a regular kid who’s dead. Except, if we’re not allowed to use actual magic for our costumes, that might be a bit tricky. Or, actually, it wouldn’t be at all! Yeah! So, I think that’s what I’m going as. That, or maybe a vampire.
My list is
a) Tonks
b) Rosalie-Hale-after-she-murdered-Royce-King
c) A hellcat (cat from hell).
Any preferences? Tonks is cool because I can go nuts at Hot Topic. Rose because she’s actually scary, but the wedding dress might be a bit hard to come by. Hellcat? I can make it look all sexy for the guy who refused to go out with me last year.
Five more days! Hoorah!
153- my suggestion: if you want something unique, go the the library and check out a book on mythology. You can find a million costume ideas within ten minutes. Or, if you don’t want to leave the house, it’s the magic of Google!
For myself, I’ve narrowed it down to three possibilities, and I’m keeping them to myself until the ball actually happens.
I’m not really sure what I’ll go as… oh, I have it now. Prepare for BINKY!
115- Uh, KH3 isn’t out yet, and won’t be for a while.
164- Ah, I see. Don’t worry, I won’t give you away. Or will I…?
164- Binky? Sounds familiar, somehow…
167- I’m not about to tell you…!
162-I would say Tonks. How do you make a hellcat look sexy?
Mmm…. I was thinking about being Batman’s girl friend, who can stop time, is super cool and awesome. Did I mention she was a superhero named Time?
Hmm… lame? Mmm…. anyone? Comments?
169- I don’t know, kitty ears, crop top, short shorts, fishnet leggings, and a devil tail is what I was thinking… I dunno…
170- Oh my God, you actually posted (for once…) You could be her, but how would you create the costume? You could be Rosalie…
171- May I ask iif you know ACWLEC?
171- Oh, I’m creative. I thought I could actually try to pull of secret identity thing…. make it so people don’t recognise me?
Rosalie isn’t exactly my style… YOU know that!
I just realized I said mmm or hmm around six times in my earlier post… sorry people!
145 – *scoff* Psh. Yeah right. Sure I’m Kokonilly. *looks around nervously* *whispers* How did you know? *un-whisper*
147 – Optimistic.
Help. Please.
Whoa whoa whoa!! What’s all this about fog machines and glow sticks?? This is a formal masque ball, people, not a party!!
172- Yes, I do know her. She has been my bffl since I was 7. I recommended this website to her but she does not post much because her computer is vair vair slow and ehr evulll parents don’t allow her much online time. I introduced Muse to herwhen I first got my subscription.
On the subject of MBers that I know personally, I have known Syllabub literally for all my life. We were born on the same day in the same hospital in the rooms next to each other, nine hours apart. But, when I came out of my mom, her mom started going into labor. So we were really born at the same time. Oh, and our mothers met in birthing class and read board books to us (while in the womb) in each others living rooms. So, I’ve known her all my life and then some. We’re still close as superglue and… something that is stuck onto superglue.
176- I know Leaf and… *looks around* that’s it.
175- Fog machines outside to create an elegant atmosphere? That was what I was going for. Glowsticks, however… meh…
178- My sentiments exactly. Fog yes, glowsticks, no. For lighting, we should have chandeliers with candles that have salt mixed into the wax, so their light is an eerie green.
I’ve changed my mind somewhat……
I’m either going to be:
A gothic ghost
A werewolf
A dryad (you know, the tree spirit thing), unless someone’s already taken it
Or something totally different.
The funny thing is, the werewolf is probably the only one of those that I would actually look remotely okay in in real life. Oh well, that’s what MA is for. Well, that’s one of the nice thing about it, anyway.
2…Days…Left…Must….Pick…Costume…
So, are we going to wear the actual fancy masks, or just show up in a regular costume?
179- Awesome.
181- I think we include masks as part of our costumes.
182- Thanks.
So we change our name for the ball as well?
I am typing this from an iTouch.
184-Yeah. Probably we would have the name be something descriptive of our costume, unless we were going as a particular person, in which case our name would be their name. I mean…… you know what I mean.
185 – Yeah, I see.
Hey! It’s the 13th! Create the thread, please!
(187) Tomorrow is the 13th.
188- Oh. I was apparently misinformed.
I’m very excited for tomorrow!
Do we have to have a costume posted before the ball starts or can we arrive in costume without having posted about it?
190- Me, too!
At Spencers, there was this amazing costume of a headless woman wearing a black and red gothic dress, holding her head, and when you pass by her she screams and stuff. It’s pretty sweet.
-147 they can’t produce body heat, so they’ll freeze like corpseicals!
How’s this sound for a costume?
Link from Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, With some sort of special thing that could never happen in real life to make him turn into a wolf?
If you don’t get the reference, Link is a classic heroic character from the legend of zelda video games. In this particular one, he can turn into a wolf (he is NOT a werewolf)
OR
Axel
from KH2 and chain of memories video games
OR
Dodge anders
from the looking glass wars
OR
a masked version of aragorn
OR
a masked version of legolas
(both from LOTR)
193- Can we please not have decorations like that? They would give me nightmares.
I can’t wait for tomorrow! I was thinking that the ballroom would look like the picture Raynpho posted too.
I have a picture of my costume now! Or, at least pictures of parts of it.
I think we need someone to do a recap of what exactly is happening at the ball who has been very involved in this thread. Please? I don’t exactly know what is happening.
(Oh, and this should probably be posted before tomorrow.
197- We all come in disguise, complete with names that match our costumes. We eat, socialize, play some Halloween games, occasionally see ghosts and try to figure out who is behind each disguise.
197- I posted a semi-recap in post 74, and I don’t think much has really changed since then. I think.
I am so, incredibly PUMPED for this ball. PUMPED. I am counting down the hours for this thing to start. *buzzes around anxiously.*
Questions: It starts the 13th, but when? Midnight tonight? Noon tomorrow? Sunrise? Sunset? Whenever the GAPAs feel the urge to put up the thread? What time zone?
Definitely not midnight tonight. *yawns*
(199) Hmm. My guess is that the last of those choices is most likely.
200, 201- Alright then. I really didn’t think it would be midnight, nobody would be on anyway
Well, I probably would, but that’s because I go to sleep later than is healthy, unlike Robert.
I suppose I’ll just buzz around my room and refresh the page every 10 minutes. There’s no school tomorrow anyway, because of Columbus Day.
How about 6 BT?
203–gosh, that’s early
202–What?!?!?! No school!!!!!!!! No fair!!!!! I still ahve school! That is so not fair!!!!!!!! I want the day off!!!!!!!!
Anyways…..
I have absolutely no school all next week. I may or may not be here at midnight.
204- We’ve always had Columbus day off, though this year it coincided quite conveniently with Yom Kippur, giving us a five day weekend. Most enjoyable.
205- Pah, talk about unfair.
Well, it’s 1:00 AM here in the eastern US. And I am awake. And on the internet.
Someone tell me to go to bed, and I might actually- *snores*
I’ve got school. I’m leaving for now. I hope I don’t miss too much of the ball!
200- Wimp.
I must find a costume…
206–I’m jealous. Ver, very jealous. But I shall console myself with the fact tha I get the entire week of Thanksgiving off in a little over a month……Dang, that’s a long time!
Technically, you’re envious, not jealous. There’s a difference. </editorial_hairsplitting>
So do our names have to corrispond to what we’re wearing, or can we just make up a new name?
210–yes, there is, and I figured as I was typing it that it was envious, but was too lazy to change it……sorry, professor coontz!
It would be more useful to others if they were descriptive.
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Where is the Ball thread???? GAPAS???? P*ease? *makes puppydog eyes* I have been checking allllllllll day!
Sorry if I sound annoying, I just really want it to start.
Hehe, I really want the Ball thread too. *waits* *explodes* I CANNOT WAIT!
To pull a quote from montey python…
“GET ON WITH IT!”
I believe the ball begins at sundown. That would be at 6:14 — in Reykjavik. 1:14 MBT.
217- Wait, so… 2:14 PM, eastern time?
Holy wung, that’s in 13 minutes. *buzzes*
And I was just going to take a shower, too. Ah well, it can wait 20 minutes.
206 – Unfair, you say? Well, too bad.
IT’S STARTED, PEOPLES! Why is no-one there?
194- Ah! Aragorn! But if you are not incredible-drop-dead-gorgeous then I suggest NOT!
Tee hee… sorry, that was mean. Be Aragorn if you must, but do not disgrace upon His name.
???
