I’m didn’t get my Hogwarts letter, and was on the verge of tears for a day or two afterwards. I can’t believe it – I’M NOT A WIZARD! Gahhhhhhhhh!
Oh well. I don’t really believe anymore, but whenever I play Hogwarts with my friends I can at least pretend I’m a wizard and being unmagical hasn’t stopped me from memorizing every spel I can suck out of the books, plus more.

No, for instance, most Wiccans aren’t creepy (unless they’re the poser type who do it for the shock value but other than that no)- Wicca, as I understand it, is, like most other religions, based on doing good and being all connected with nature and stuff… I kind of find it funny, though.. of course, I find most religious people pretty funny… not to mention Goths…

well theres spelly magic, and magic thats more like an instinctive power. and magical objects, and old magic and magical peoples and the rules of magic and “wizardology” and all different types of magic. when you put magic into your fantasy book, you make up the rules, and its really fun.

Magic is like a really good and unselfconscious fantasy novel. It’s hard to find, but when you do it’s WONDERFUL.
Types of magic:
Old Magic: Magic in lands that is thought out and kind of slow.
Spell magic: Magic that needs summoning (herbs, circles) and is vaguely Wiccan.
Species Magic: Magic that you get from being what you are. EX: Dwarves in LOTR are good with fire.
Instinctive Power: Tamora Pierce-y power, where the individual
has the power (whatever quantity) and may or may not know this.

In the Belgariad, there are several ways of disrupting nature.
a) sorcery, otherwise known as the Will and the Word. Used by the Brotherhood (Belgarath, Polgara, Belgarion, Beldin, Beltira, Belkira, Belzedar untill he ran away, Belmakor until he died, and one more who surfaces in the plot and I won’t reveal ;)). Anyone can do this, if they have a strong enough Will. Also used by the Grolim priests, very very evil dudes who worship with human sacrifice. Luckily almost none of them are strong enough to shapeshift, much less kill people with it.
b) witchcraft, which uses imps to do your bidding. Uses focuses and spells. Used by Vordai of the Fens.
c) magic, which is evil and uses demons to do your bidding. Very very dangerous (if the demon gets away it kills you) and used by the Godless Ones.
d) agury- reading the stars, plants, sheeps’ guts, whatever. Used by Alorn priests and Queen Salmissra of Nyissa (before she got turned into a snake, of course.)
e) Raw elemental power used by artifacts such as the Orb, Cthrek Goru, and the Orb’s counterpart the I-forgot-the-name.

I really dislike people who spell magic “Majik, Magick, Magik, Majic” or any other way. It’s just so, you know, odd. Self-conscious and unaesthetic,too.
It’s just this thing we’re doing. We find C’s unnesasery, so we stopped using them. K as in kall. S as in unnesasery. ☻as in ☻hair (ch).

Magik is dangerous and should be used sparingly. It kan kause all sorts of problems. It kan also be of great help. But only when used properly.

I don’t belive in magic. But ESP is a possibility, even though the only identical twins I know are Ishmael and Sphinx and they are certainly not empathic as they are always fighting. Magic is a fun idea, though.
I like themed powers, not all-around magery like Alanna has. I like elemental power, transformations, et cetra.

I can do loads of psi and stuff like that, but only rarely can I get it to work on someone outside. I have an especially potent trick calld ‘void and candle’ which is remarkably effective on physical objects; I can do almost anything while in its thrall.
I have good concentration, later I shall post some helpful tricks for concentration for your benefit.

Hello, Rosanne! I didn’t know you were moderating. Good! I’ll knock off and do some laundry.
it’s a mental state, basically. You imagine a candle or a flame, and pour yourself into it. All your feelings, memories, everything. ALl descisions become subconsious, and if someone asks a person correctly doing void and candle a question whose answer thay know, even having just heard it in passing a year before, they will instantly answer. Void is a more refined and physical form, you use it if youare running for distance or speed and it lets you do your max. I use it all the time, and I actually took an average to see if it’s real– and it was. You just let the void swallow you.
However, it dosn’t work for some of my friends and you have to wipe your mind entirely blank which is very hard. FOr me, though, it has amazing effect.
I also use it during regular days (to a lesser extent) to keep myself calm. Sort of like meditation, which I also do. however, meditation I maily use to relive pain and– I admit it– boredom.
This is not magic or anything mystical. It is just a way of calming yourself and suchlike, it works for some and not for others.
I still am unable to “see” the psi. According to the “Psion’s Handbook,” I ought to be able to do it in about 3 months. I am able to influence minor things and small thoughts of others with my mind, but still can’t send thoughts or scan them.

I meditate too — almost every day. Though about half the time napping might be a more accurate description in my case.

In the a fantasy series I’m planning on writing, everyone magic or not, is under a sign.
The major signs are:

More minor sign are:

*Though darkness is considered a major sign, it is extremely rare, and only turns up every two hundred years.
But maji are the only people who can utilize that sign in the form of elemental powers. They can control there elements, and have a konchou, or spirit animal, that they can become.
mutt thinks ice and water are mostly the same element. at least, i’m a water element, and my spirit mentor thing is only related because he’s from alaska
Phoenix, void and candle sounds interesting. I’m afraid I would have a lot of trouble acomplishing it, I would probably be thinking “this is so weird” or “I wonder how long I’ve been doing this” and that, as I understand it, has a way of ruining what you’re going for. Anyway, I’ll try it sometime.

I tried Void and Candle, or as I call it because I’ve read the WoT books, the flame and the void, last night. It didn’t really do anything, but it did help me get to sleep.. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep..
Last night I did a neat little meditation trick I invented while trying to go to sleep. I focus on my muscles being entirely inert and then I focus on my eyelids closing, which they do without me doing anything. Then I focus on a lot of stuff which is private. After what seemed like five minutes I opened my eyes and it was much later. And I did not fall asleep.
Er, yay?
I’ve got trouble falling asleep, too, but never try such interesting tactics.

fire-the basic ability to call up fire, resistance to getting burned
common konchous include-gryfon, lion
light-creating balls of light that can either be used to light the way or hurl at enemies, can sense death and necromancy
common konchous include-various birds of prey, cat
darkness-ability to make people fall asleep and sometimes kill them, though this often kills the user as well, ability to see into the past, present, and(unvoluntarily) future, sharp senses exept for sight, can become invisible at night
common konchous include-owl, raven

I knock myself out. Like seriously, if you cross your eyes and make yourself dizzy and other stuff like that you’ll faint and when you wake back up you’ll fall asleep like *snap* that. But it only works those occaisional times when fate combines so that A-you’re really tired B-really really tired (but u still can’t sleep) C-you actually want to go to sleep and D-There is no letter D. This doesn’t happen often, cuz i’m rarely that tired, and i rarely actually want to go to sleep until i’m tired enough to fall asleep (and sometimes not even then) A couple years ago though i’d get really tired and just not fall asleep. It was really weird. So yeah.

Pretty much anyone who summons evil powers to do their bidding. You know, fortune tellers, qujedie (whatever) boarders, and the like.To put it bluntly, Satan-worshippers (even if they may not be aware of it.). I mean, that’s not just ceepy, it’s evil. The way I see it, if you try to make something supernatural happen and it happens, it obviously didn’t come from you. There are only two options for who did it, and since God isn’t the show-off type, if you didn’t ask Him for it, it was Satan. Or you’re going crazy. Okay, I don’t want ot introduce religion into this. Let’s move on. *ding* ‘Your new topic’s ready!’ The mind stuff is cool. Like meditation and that. Yeah, I’ll bet there’s a lot of properties of the subconscience that aren’t even discovered yet.

Can air control the weather? ‘Cause if it can I like that one. I tend to like elements, like next I would choose Water or Fire.
I am really bad at going to sleep tricks. My meditation keeps me awake, not the opposite! I just simply clear my mind and then sleep comes on faster. I have some physical tricks but they don’t count.
I am learning select Karate moves to expand my P.D. skills. I can do most of the punches, blocks, and kicks, but I have trouble shifting from the former to the latter. And I am still working on the high kick, because I am not fast enough and I’m afraid to get my ankle caught, and I still can’t do the flying kick without falling after I deliver the blow, because I can’t rebalance before I land. Anyway, the Karate will help b/c most of P.D. is defensive grappling. It’s all close range, and I don’t want to get that close to an assalient if I can possibly help it.
I have the worst time falling asleep. I can lie awake for hours at a time, thinking, “I should be finishing my algebra homework. I hate algebra.” Or other stuff.
I just took a Spanish class. I did nae like it. I want to take Mandarin or Arabic instead but my school does nae have either.
Heck, I’d LOVE to take an Arabic class! Too bad my school doesn’t have one either.

The following is an excerpt from a letter to my friend the day after the fourth Potter movie came out:
At my school, yesterday the 18th, it was unofficial Harry Potter day, according to some of my friends and me. I dressed in a robe and drew the dark mark on my wrist and guess what?!?!?!- My dad made me a WAND!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, an actual wand. So cool.
So I brought my wand to school and everybody was like ohh and ahh and I had to go on a field trip so I put my wand in the corner of my locker, shoved my backpack in front of it, and then for some reason, I moved my pack back out of the way and my wand was GONE!!!!! I swear, I could not find my wand inside my locker!!!!!! I looked, my friend looked, and my teacher looked inside the locker and we could not find it!!!!!! I was, like, sooooooooo worried about my wand (hmm. maybe the locker was a “vanishing locker.” get it? “vanishing cabinet?” haha) I was truly starting to think that my wand was magic. So then my dad came to pick my up and I told him about the wand and he looked in my locker for one minute and pulled it out!!!!! Was he magic? No. Of course not. You see, there’s my locker door and the wall of the locker and between these two there’s a little space. Really hidden. I didn’t know it existed. But that’s where my wand was.
That’s my story.

I liked eragon actually. Eldest, not so much. so predictable…gaaaaah. and the whole thing with arya bleeech he really can’t write any type of love-story subplot and should not try. he’s 15 for cryin out loud!
Eragon was pretty good though. The urgals were completely ripped off orcs. The shades were pretty cool. They were probably ripped off too, but they were still cool. I ♥ the dwarf dude, and the dragons are cool.

Woohoo, a magic topic! Yay. I meditate when I get the time. It’s very relaxing and it really can be a magical experience if you concentrate and empty your mind (but I have a lot of trouble doing that most of the time). Personally, I believe in magic of all kinds, good and bad, but that’s just me.
Latin is good. Obsessive teachers are bad. The language itself is very interesting. There’s a strange sense of satisfaction in being able to read something from so long ago. And even though it’s no longer spoken there’s a surprising amount of Latin that pops up in everyday life when you least expect it, like “mea culpa”, plus a ton of English words that come from Latin roots. The bad thing about Latin is that it takes so long to learn. I’ve been taking it for five years now and I still don’t know all of the grammar! o.O There’s also a tendency for Latin teachers to be kind of…strange. I don’t know about other schools, but at mine one Latin teacher is absolutely devoted to Latin (she lives for Latin, which seems a bit extreme…) and the other loves Latin but doesn’t know how to teach it. Last year that teacher told us it was the duty of Latin scholars to find things out on their own and basically just stood there the whole year while we tried to figure out what she was supposed to be teaching us. Ack. But still, it’s a really fun language once you learn it.
Hmmm…perhaps XXD is meant to be XD? In that case, it would be meant to be a big smile under x’d-out eyes, right? That one took me forever to figure out too, though. o.O
