Religion, art forms, languages, holidays–not which one is better, but how many and how interesting they are. General facts about different places and their culture.

  1. I thought I suggested it… And hey, that’s my description! I’m Phoenix’s ghost writer! WHEEEEE!

Anyway, culture is generally super – cool, if only when out of a boring conversation in school. First post.

  2. First post? Maybe? I’ll save the happy exclamation points until i know for sure. erm…culture. I find american culture pretty boring, probably because i live in it. japanese/chinese culture’s pretty interesting, and native american culture. Erm…well yeah. um…the end. Wasn’t that a lovely possible first post?

  5. My first time having first post EVER! Woohoo! Rejoice! Rejoice!

Anyways, culture is awesome. The American culture is kinda hard… Well, most of the people spend their day wandering around and eating something made of plastic or something by Kraft. The Native American culture is very different. They have a religion, (They incorporate this with they’re myths a lot) art forms (beading, etc.,) and language (Really complicated ones, too. Ever heard Navajo?). Any other interesting civilaztions from now or earlier you people like?

  6. Yay! Heritage!

I’m American, Jewish, and a quarter Polish. All my great grandparents were at least origanally from Poland with the exception of one, who was from Russia. Two of my grandparents are from Poland. My other Grandmother is American, and my Grandpa lived in Israel for the first five years of his life, then came to America.

One of my great grandparents lived in England for some time, another one lived in Scotland.

You should hear Phoenix. She has a mixed background. We call her a mutt (well, now we will.)

yes but the thing about american culture is it manages to turn other people into idiots that will listen to us american idiots (and plz as you love your life do not start singing green day at me)

    Ebeth, I have so many elmo-excuse me-emo jokes, it’s…stupid.

I had a mochi last night, which is basically a blob of pounded rice filled with sweet azuki beans…not very tasty, actually. But I should get good luck, so yay!

  11. Heritage: Reg. American mutt of everything. Or regular WAS, if you think of it. More like a Was/Has-Been, but that’s OK.

Um, I always thought Celt heritage was zarking froody. Woad and the knot symbols and all that. Russians don’t get enough credit, and the French are the Zarkleseizure.

Americans have culture? What? *breakthrough* I feel such a sense of national pride! Froody!

  13. Dark lord of darkness- let me introduce you to one of my favorite marks of punctuation, the period: . You use it whenever you have completed a sentance to show the end of an idea. After a period, you use a capital letter, which can be made by holding the “shift” key down while pressing whatever letter you want.
Sorry, I’m a grammar freak. That’s really not the correct term, but it’s the closest thing.. I guess my deal is that sentances with no capital letters or punctuation are hard to read you know what i mean you just dont know when they end… But really, no offense meant, and we’re all Musers he- *gets hit by tons of flying pies*

Interesting combination, eh? Seriously, people shouldn’t think “Nazi” when they here the word “German”. They’re different now.

  18. Celtic knotwork is soooooooo cool! And so is Native American bead-work. I can’t help but think that America would be a lot better off envirornmentally, and quite possibly in other ways, if we hadn’t totally taken over. And the Native Americans sure would be better off. I mean, talk about rude! They’d been here, like, forever and we just came over and slaughtered them or pushed them over to the west coast until there wasn’t any room left! What’s worse is, all they have left now are teeny-weeny “reservations”. And people are trying to build gambling casinos on them!

I am Irish, Swedish, Finnish, Norweigan, Polish, Checeslovokian (how the heck d’you spell that?), Cherokee, Crow, Siox, Israeli, and lots of others that are so mixed up in my history that they are not worth mentioning. No Far Eastern heritage for me so far, though. *cries* I love Japan.

  23. Hello, Senor Administrador.
I think I said this somewhere else, but I’m half Chinese/Mongolian (how much Mongolian is currently in dispute, but I maintain that I’m descended from Genghis Khan. A lot of people are.), half Scottish/Swedish/Irish/English/Welsh/otherrandomEuropeanstuff. Bits of my family have been here since right after the Mayflower, and other bits arrived in the 1940’s. I think.
I celebrate such varied holidays as Christmas, my dog’s birthday (which is today, by the way), and Chinese New Year. Assuming most of you know about Christmas, and don’t care about my dog’s birthday, I shall go into a long spiel (sp) about Chinese New Year.

    Or not, because I’m lazy.

Hey, do you want to know what year of the Chinese zodaic you were born in? Tell me your birth year, and I shall mysteriously calculate it. WoooOOooOOOO. The only way I could possibly be wrong is if your birthday is before the end of February. *RRF’s self-esteem puffs up magically*

Me speaks…er…typing in much bad grammar.

  24. The Chinese New Year is actually on the day that it is because of the Zodiacs. There once was an emporer who wanted his sone born in the Year of the Dragon, because children born in that year are supposed to have great prosperity. His son was born a few days too early, however, so he ordered the New Year moved ahead one week, and it’s stayed on that date ever since.

Now I feel special because poor, duped MuseBloggers read every word of this, believing it all because they thought I was the MAP. I love this feeling of power. Of course, I’ve decided not to be mean and keep you guessing, so I’ll let you in on the fact that this is MG in disguise. I couldn’t resist temptation.

  25. The fact is that America might have just as much culture as any other country, but we wouldn’t know it because we see it from the inside and it just seems natural to us. Like, the outside world might see blue jeans, rock music, and movies filled with sexual content as part of our culture, but because know that not all people aprove of these things, or it just seems normal to us, it doesn’t exactly penetrate that it is “culture”. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

    Pie 0

  42. I think that the Ancient Greek and Egyptian (did I spell that right?) culture and religion are absolutely facinating! Oh! Also mideval (once again, I’m not always the greatest speller) borouqe and renacance (whatever) Europe are really interesting.

I’m more interested in the religion and every day lives then the science part. Oh, and what the mid-wives (so I guess maybe a little science) and doctor figures used, and why they thought it worked. Some of them did, but the flower shaped like a drop of blood didn’t work just because it looked like blood. It didn’t work at all. I think feverfew did, I’m not sure.

I’m not so sure on the Irish stuff. I know that the English were being VERY annoying, and there was alot of up-risings that failed.

anti-libbism was invented by me and beththeveryevilone because we think libbism is stupid. it can also be a type of government, where the moderately large gov. sits on a rock in the middle of the ocean and twiddles their thumbs, and everybody else does whatever they like, as long as its okay with the other people.

oh wait, you asked what libbism was.

libbism (or libbyism) is rule by libby. it was invented during civics (because we couldn’t think of any more ism goverments so we invented that one). libbism includes libby’s room, her guinea pigs, and my left arm. beth and poland are not part of libbism.

  52. -Possible Muse Party Mottoes

“Muse! Muse! We’re the bomb! So we don’t know right from wrong!” It rhymes. It’s catchy. It’s youth oriented. But is it intelligent? No, not really.

“I vote for Kokopelli, ergo esum (Muse backwards)” Possibly a little fear-tactic. Will someone translate that into Latin?

“Don’t be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Musemag party.” Need I explain? Catchy, but probably inappropriate.

“We’re flamablamablous Musers, and our candidate isn’t a confuser!” Naah…no ring to it.

“Dinsdale?” Not relevant. But it has a certain charm that would identify with the average citizen.

“We’ve got Paul Baker-he’s no faker!” Certainly true. However, is it relevant? Ask Mr. Baker.

“O.K., O. K., Koko!” I like this one. Not a palindrome, but close.

” ’04 ’06 ’08! Which mag do you appreciate?” A possible winner, this one scores on catchy and cute but has no other recognizable merit.

“Muse Magazine’s the way to be. Muses are for equality!” One of the best so far, this slogan combines catchiness with serious support of our Muse Party values.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. (Or romaine, as I personally prefer.)
