Interesting colors. The colors on osts don’t seem much changed, I don’t think, but the rest…..interesting.

I like the picture (even if it did take me a while to figure out that the outer ring was smileys)!

And my room smells like fish…..I had some yesterday, (my mom got me smoked salmon, the non refrigeration necessary til opened kind for Christmas) and the paper towel used to wipe the excess fish juice off my plate has a strong odor today (sure it did yesterday, too, I just was accustomed to the smell) and I suppose I ought to grab that bag of trash and toss it on my way to class, before my roomie decides the smell is bothering her and says something.

    Hullo, everyone!

I’m in the country. Last night we sat around reading about different blood types in “Eat Right 4 Your Type”, and this morning we’re sitting around discussing the credibility of it. It’s rather fun actually. I think I’m type A, but I don’t really know. Or care much.

The colors are a bit odd, but I can’t tell because I’m on my dad’s computer sitting in full sunlight so I can barely even see the screen.

    Whoa. Bright colors.
They’re fine, but one thing Rebecca—could you perhaps make the comment box a bit less… bright? It’s a little too much for me.

Love than mandala, it totally works.

We made model elevated bridges for SciOly in science class. Mine placed in tenth because we couldn’t get the loading equipment on properly (and because a lot of the measurements were off, though just by millimeters) so it was all wobbly and it wobbled too much and the poor bridge fell over and broke. But the whole thing weighed only 15 grams, which is way less than the winning bridge which had a similar design (the winning bridge was 41 g). Yay!

I’m tired. I need to go to bed. I need to wake up early tomorrow. I’m going to Washington, DC. I finished the second book of the Hornblower series. I’m rambling and there probably isn’t any moderation anyway. I’d be surprised if there was. I’d be surprised if there was an elephant on my porch too, but that was extremely random and so I shall leave now. Besides, very bright colors on a screen in the dark when one is tired is a little much, in the daylight it would be okay though.

  53. Midnight Fiddler (she of 2 spzdk, 500 PiePoints and 30 Muszey points) says:

48~ The violin is a very awkward instrument to play, believe me. There’s a reason that the majority of bowed string instruments are held between the legs. (Think viols, Mongolian Horsehead fiddles [morin hur, but I don’t know how to spell it], and all sorts of other musical beasties.) It’s weird but you will eventually get the hang of it, just wait until you start using the bow! All I can say is be as relaxed as you can be without dropping it, sounds easy but is devilishly hard.

52~ Yup, snow here all day (presumably) and it’s still coming down.

It was rather slushy in Washington DC, but lovely with the grey buildings, and the castle (Smithsonian institute) was breathtakingly beautiful when we walked out of the Natural History museum (we went to see the orchid exhibit–wow!).
We spent most of the time though in the American History museum where our friend works. AMAZING DAY.

There’s a bit of snow here, it’s been rather cold (the humidity definitely does make a difference, I’ve decided) today, and sorta snowing all day. 55. Alice says:

52- We had snow this morning but there wasn’t any delay or anything. Not here, anyway. Every other school in the area did. I don’t really mind, actually, ’cause it meant I got to start violin lessons!

In global studies, Mr. F asked us to write down all the reasons we shouldn’t be in school. I was quite excited, because it looked like we were going to have an intelligent discussion, actually, and Mr. F admitted that he wasn’t entirely sold on the school system. But after that he went on to tell us all about money and how school was good because you could get lots of money if you had a degree. I sort of tuned out, but we’ll probably have a test on it and I’ll regret it. It’s just…lame. What’s the point, anyway? Why do you want to get a good job? So you can retire? What do you do then, I ask you? Meh… Learning for the sake of learning is wonderful (sometimes). Learning solely to get rich so you can retire seems to me a sad sort of goal. We’ve been having a lot of these lately. A snow day and a delay the week before last completely screwed up our final exam schedule, but it ended up working out okay. And no I’m DONE! (Er…with the first semester. But still!)

re: Science Olympiad bridges- a few people from my school are doing that, too. I don’t think they’re very far along, but the design seems to look sturdy so far. I’m doing a bunch of other events, including Write-it-do-it! (I love that event. It’s the best. Ever. *hugs w-i-d-i*)

Rebecca (31): Thank you so much, it makes it a lot easier to come to the blog now. Is there a schedule to the times the colors change, or is it completely random?

Kagcomix (47): I loved Arthur! I belonged to an Arthur book club in elementary school, so I have all the books, too! I don’t like the new voice actor for Arthur, though. I’m not sure how l ong he’s been on the show, but the last time I saw it on actual television, he definitely sounded different than I remembered.

Another snow day! Or, more accurately, an ice day. No tree damage yet, but everything is glazed rather heavily. When ice forms over snow it always gets a bit dangerous, and it’s so thick I can walk around without breaking through! My poor dog looked a little sad and confused trying to walk about. In fact, his movement could be more accurately described as skating, and he very nearly ended up skating right up onto the porch.

The ice would likely make for a rather fast ride sledding down any hill!

I’m not sure how well the ice can be shoveled, though. They haven’t plowed yet, and the road looks more like an ice skating rink than a safe traveling option.

63~ Aww, poor Milo! I can just see him skating around the yard, he’s such a cutie. 64) But think of it this way: school is a game. There are some rules you can break, others you can bend and others break you. In, for example, latin class, you can get away with reading Eragon under the table all the first semester, as long as you study for the tests. But woe to whoever chances to look at the window during french class. Know thine teacher, then exploit ens weaknesses while seeming to pay attention. Works for me (except in art, where I got a B- minus for “neglecting to show up every second week” (i.e. having different priorities).

Does anyone know the game werewolf ? We play it during the breaks at school… It’s basically a game where you get to lynch other players. It’s also everyones favorite game. Gives you quite an impression of them, doesn’t it ?

We never get snow days. I have experienced a snow day once in my life. It’s fine though. I don’t really mind. Has anyone ever played Munchkins? or whatever it is called. It’s a D&D parody. We played it today at lunch and got kicked out of the library. I would actually love to learn to play D&D.

    RETURNED! WITH A VENGEANCE!

Hello, all. How are you this fine evening? I am partially sick (I’ve had nausea all day- not easy in band) and have heaps of homework. I cannot find my planner, and in turn I will get detention tmorrow, and thusly not be able to audition with my friends for the talent show.

    Pretty good, for myself.

I’m listening to Yael Naim’s “New Soul” (it is flam), I’ve realized that it kind of describes life for sixth graders. Not really, but I like it.

My MB comics are coming along quite nicely! I’ve written one about HP books, bunnies, Miss Swann and RtH’s marriage, archery, Mr. Joe in space, and typewriter rivalry. Lo, they are just stick figures, but I am proud of my dialogue (and I have never drawn a typewriter so well).

    And now, replies…

    0: Beautiful! *clapclapclap*

88: Great! I think of you as a string.

Grape plays the cello, and she remarked to me, “Those small strings are really stupid.” You see, during her orchestra period, Mr. Fish BLEW UP at the violins and violas. When he gets mad, his face turns red. The kid sitting next to her whispered, “His face is almost as red as his hair.” To which she replied, “What hair?”

I collapsed in laughter when I heard that. Band kids have the most inside jokes, hands down.

This is what happens when I’m away from Museblog! My typing suffers extenisvely!

And speaking of German… (post 74…)

Anyone remember the TV show “Alf”? It was a TV series during the late 1980’s starring an extraterrestrial from the planet Melmac. Well, what’s odd about it is it seems that it was REALLY popular in West Germany, from what my husband (who grew up there) tells me. Alf’s still a big cultural icon there. But here he’s pretty much forgotten.
So I’ve been wondering about why the Germans are so taken with him. I wonder if the actors who dubbed in the German were better than the Americans. Or maybe the German translators improved on the script. Or Germans just like Melmacians.

95- oh my love for CSS is boundless. I learned from some shoddy tutorials actually…but it’s probably best to consult more official sites like W3C. I learned the “right” way only after taking a web design class. I’d also suggest making good use of view page source if you run Firefox. Books potentially help but with web design I always think you learn best from doing. You can also run your code through the W3C to check if it’s validated, which is an awesome feature! (My code never seems to be valid…sigh)

CSS really helps with organization, as it’s easier to define an external stylesheet than specify values for each and every page. I always have problems getting my external stylesheet to agree with me but when they do it’s lovely!

humm I wonder if I can show code on here? well I’ll try.

Hello! I am back in civilisation after 4/5 days aboard the Elwing yacht. I am dead! I havnt had a shower in ages!
The weather was awesome for Stewart Island, and every morning at 8 we swam in the cold sea! It was crazy, and our leader- Arthur- was soo scary! But he was pretty nice :)
Yesterday we went snorkelling, it was sooo cool. It was in the open sea at Sailors Rest and there were some HUGE jellyfish, they didnt sting, but I was pretty afraid anyway! Also they have massive underwater seaweed forests that I kept almost swimming into, it would have been awful if I did, I was afraid of what was living there, and Arthur kept talking about sharks because one girl- Priscilla, from the Netherlands, kept asking “are der sharks here? Are dere?” so he said yes…sooo scary!
We also went kayaking, have you done that before? it was really fun but tiring. Priscill and me shared a kayak and we fell off a lot of the time because Priscilla loves to annoy the boys and hold their kayaks so they have to carry us behind themthen she splash them with our paddle! Shes crazy and we were most of the time in the water trying to get onto our kayak!!!
We went for heaps of walks around bush and on beaches. On the beaches we picked up starfish and cockles/mussels that we ate for tea sometimes. Arthur loves the nature and sometimes he would make us sit far away from each other and just be quiet so we could hear the bush sounds, it was really beautiful!
On the ferry back from Stewart Island, to Bluff, (thats the most South town in New Zealand, I think) It was horribly rough, with 3 metre swells. I don’t get seasick, but Priscill and Jacinda did and they ran outside…it made me feel sick too, and heaps of other people on they ferry were sick, it was sooo disgusting, they even slowed the ferry right down and some lady was REALLY sick (I thought we were turning right round and heading back to Obam!!!) and when we finally got back to Bluff wharf there were 2 ambulances waiting :O
Also, nearly everybody (except Priscilla) was born and bred in Southland/South Otago and I have come back sounding a bit like a farm hand. With a little Dutch accent mixed in there too! I had the worst ever fish and chips in Invercargill before we left to go home, the chips were not salted and the fish was tiny…Do you eat fish and chips in the USA? I have never heard of it there, although my knowledge is based on movies ><
I have 4 more days of blissful summer nothing…

100–yeah, there are definitely some places in the US that sell fish and chips. Perhaps not as many as in, say, England for example, but we do have them. Of course, the only time I remember eating them was in……England. Canterbury, mainly, there was this small little fish and chips shop that sold ’em in little cones. ’twas quite nice, though they gave us the oddest looks when the troupe of us (there were a good six or seven of us choir kids) asked for ketchup. And they had these tiny little spork things that I think we were supposed to be using to eat the fish’n’chips, and we tired at first, we really did, but……that just took forever, and we ended up tossing them aside into the trash, in favor of our fingers. I had fish’n’chips a couple other places, as well. Like London at some fancy restaurant before going to see Starlight Express…..

But the crepes we had in Canterbury, from some little streetside vendor–MMMmmm–those were to die for. Really, absolutely scrumptious.

However, my dad (who does computer programming, so is, I would say, is therefore probably pretty knowledgeable about computers and such) got me both the computer and the printer, so I don’t think that it would be that it’s not very compatible with the network. That is, I’m pretty sure dad spent a lot of time looking into what would be the best printer for me to get with my mac laptop.

As far as googling for help–I did try this at one point, without finding much helpful. And of course, I don’t exactly have a lot of time to spend on that……dad googled for help, too, but….his main suggestion was reinstalling the software to my computer, which I did, months ago.

I had an interestingly random day today.

First block: Band. AKA torture. We are soooooo horrible.

Second block: Health. Hahahaha, we have the randomest health class ever. Me, Connor, Terry, Julia, Maria, Gobby (don’t ask), Ketan (like Nathan with a K, in case you were wondering) and Meghan. We all just burst out saying random stuff all the time. It was so funny this morning. I got in at the same time as Connor, and we were the only ones there. Just try to picture this for a minute: Connor is about 6’2″ and lumbers around like a bear. He doesn’t have a face because with his hair you can only see his nose. So we walk in and each of us flops down on a couch, takes off our shoes, and grabs a blanket. We exchange a few words about how tired we are, then kinda fall half asleep. Terry walks in and says a bunch of loud stuff. We sort of wake up, and other people walk in. So then Connor starts saying the words to the llama song… I didn’t recognize it at first because he was mumbling but then he said “llama llama duck” and I went “Hey, that’s the llama song!” So everyone starts saying the words really fast, and then the sub (who’s this old psychiatrist guy) walks in just as we yell “LLAMA LLAMA DUCK!!” And he looks at us like we’re crazy, which we are. And so we watch a movie about bipolar disorder and one about schizophrenia, and people make comments, but otherwise I just basically go to sleep. About halfway through the schizophrenia movie, we notice Terry and Connor fighting over the blanket. Terry’s going, “I’m cold, Connie! Give me the blanket!” And he’s like “No!” so she turns so she’s using the arm as a pillow and puts her feet on his lap. And she HAS a boyfriend, who is not Connor. And then he puts his feet on her lap, and they’re like playing Footsie or something, and we’re not quite sure whether to crack up, ask Terry WHAT Zain (her BF) is going to think, or go “EWWWW!” And then the sub guy goes, “Do I WANT to know what you’re doing under there?” and we lose it. That was the best health class ever. Oh yeah, and then Connor raised his hand and asked the guy if his beard grew like that naturally or whether he cut it that way. Connor is extremely strange.

Tutorial: Treblemakers. It’s a select chorus made up of about 30 people. It was fun, but just because I got to sing.

Lunch: The Lemonade Disaster. Hajehne’ (a 7th grader) pushed the button on the lemonade dispenser and the lemonade poured all over the floor. It wouldn’t stop pouring. We put about 10 cups underneath it, but it got all over the floor. I was cracking up. No offense to Hajehne’, but he’s really stupid…

Third block: Science. Terry braided the back of Connor’s hair and put some of it in a ponytail, and she and I put bows in. It was my idea, when I found several spools of velvet ribbon sitting in the box with the scissors and glue sticks we were supposed to be using (though by that time we were all done but Sam, who is literally schizophrenic, and bipolar, and a bunch of other stuff).

Last block: Latin. Connor took his hair out :( I wanted to show Mr. O’Malley! (the teacher)

My sister is acting as though it’s my fault that the teacher singles her out if she gets low-ish grades, because I had straight A’s. She’s also acting like I’m constantly defending the teacher, which I’m not! I’m just letting her complain! How is it my fault that she got an 81 and the teacher “took [her] out into the hall and basically told [her] that [she] was horrible at science?” Which, by the way, I am certain is extremely exaggerated.

But I digress….) however, I lived so whatever. ;) It’s totally icy outside and it might be safer to wear ice skates down the sidewalk than boots, I’ve been sliding all day. >.< Not entirely pleasant.

Vogons….yes, I remember them from reading the HG2G books while vacationing for a few weeks on a lake in the middle of nowhere. Reading all night and sailing by day, reading whie warming up from swimming in the freezing and nasty weed-ridden water. Gross slimy bottoms too, but lots of nice flat rocks for skipping. I’m rambling again, am I really that tired? Oh, guess I am. Sorry. Ugh, sore throats are not fun at all, even after a whole pot of tea I don’t feel that much better, just bathroom dependent.

That’s what I mean by two Bs–I’ve gotten Cs on a couple tests before, but the final grade was at lowest B.)

My parents I’m sure would prefer As (party because I’m happier, and partly cuz they just want be to be the best I can be), but they wouldn’t have an issue with Bs as long as I actually put my best effort into it, and didn’t just not try. Cs–i dunno, if I had honestly done my best, they prob alby would be a bit disappointed (partly because I would be disappointed), but I think they would still be “You did your berst. That’s all you can do.”

2.) Model UN conference today! It was all day today, and will be all day tomorrow. Of the four conferences I have been to so far, this isn’t the best, but it’s okay. I’m representing Cuba in the Human Rights Council…which had all the promise to be fantastic, but the issues aren’t as interesting, especially with Cuba’s position. We’re discussing the crisis in Zimbabwe, water access in Africa, and the conflict in Sudan. To sum it all up, Cuba’s just sending everyone doctors! Last MUN conference, I was representing Tanzania in the African Union, so I’m a bit tired of African issues…especially since the issues we discussed in that conference were global warming (similar to water access), Sudan (same as we’re doing here), and Somalia. It has still been going well, though, despite the fundamental bore-factor of the issues, and I’ve written a resolution with China that seems to be gaining popularity.

I mean, before I even went on the “highway”, my dad had numerous lessons in a large gravel lot teaching me to turn, and drive in reverse in a straight line, etc, and then he took me on the side roads in that area, where it was like 45, and we did that numerous times before he made me drive home from there (about 3 or 4 miles–10 minutes or less–on the highway).

And I still didnt’ feel prepared, but I certainly wouldn’t have felt prepared to drive on the interstate (assuming we actally had one back home…..) after having spent pretty much only 10 minutes behind the wheel…..
