Nope, still says slow down cowboy.
Technical issues about half an hour ago. Just so you know.
I noticed them, too. Frustrating.
The host co is probably upgrading php from 4.1 to 5.0. It’s a great improvement, but it involves a system-wide rewrite to migrate all the php code from mysql to mysqli functions wherever it accesses the underlying database. And while you’re at it, you may as well concatenate the authorisation and select functions, which can run as a single statement under 5.0.
I’ve been spending too much time on tech stuff, haven’t I? Now you know why I’ve been absent from Museblog.
Nod smile…
Yes I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about!
Or not…
Yay! 5.0 is much better! Out minions, and migrate the php code until the electronic cows (or llamas. If you get that you’re a geek) come home. And when they do yell at them “Can’t you see I’m migrating the php code?!?!?!?” and send them out at them.
I DO know exactly what you’re talking about. A month ago I would have said “Ditto” to Ebeth.
Poor GAPA. They have to take care of Musers, who are smart, geeky, and tech-savvy.
And so endearingly modest.
You lot are way too young to be hardened techies. It’s very scary. What’s happening to the world?
For those as knows, a little warning : If you’re using a commercial ISP to host php-driven content, make sure you do a local install of exactly the same versions of everything that your ISP is running. I installed and configured an Apache server running on XP (yes, it will. It doesn’t need Linux). Then I added MySql 4.1 and php 5.0. Then I spent about a month writing this useful but singularly unimpressive anti-clash diary application, and it worked perfectly on my machine. All required user functions operating perfectly, potential malicious input checked for and zapped, administrator functions installed and running, the lot. Then I uploaded it to the server. That was when I found they were running php 4 and MySql x.x (where x is several versions earlier than mine) , and nothing worked. I spent another three days fixing it. But it was fun. Depending how you define “fun”.
If anyone wants to turn that experience into a proverb, go ahead. But remember only tech heads will understand it.
hey pb you’re here!!!! so how was the deep underground depths of Aquamarina? jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk jk!!!! no seriously why haven’t you been on in a while?
It’s called work, old girl. People called “clients” paying one fat wads of dosh to do fatuous things on their behalf. Like programming boring database applications or make harps or accompany jugglers on the hurdy-gurdy.
Also, the blog doesn’t seem to need extra input now. You’re all whizzing along, and there’s a lot more of you, which is spiffing. But I’ll put my oar in occasionally, just to confuse you.
“dosh?”
is that a brit thing?
like dough?
dosh…
pssht we always need your input.
Pb&j’s self-esteem: *goes up*
Pb&j: I feel good about myself! I shall now do a happy dance! *does a happy dance*
How’s this for a proverb-Do a lot of confuzzling techie things that won’t get you in a lot of trouble.
Or-Don’t do different confuzzling techie things that will get you in a lot of trouble.
Or-Where’s the choklit?
Or-I hate gym class
Or-Don’t stay up all night reading and eat sugar in the morning (LEARNED FROM EXPERIENCE-MULTIPLE EXPERIENCES!!! INCLUDING ONE TODAY WHICH WAS STUPID CUZ I ALREADY KNEW THE PROVERB BUT I DID IT ANYWAY CUZ I CAN BE AN IDIOT SOMETIMES)
Or-The musebloggers are endearingly modest.
Or-The GAPA are endearingly insane.
Or-The Pb&j is endearingly british.
Or-heck we’re all just lovely, endearing people!
Or-Maybe you shouldn’t have printed that self-esteem article
Or-Life sucks. Because it just does. Yay let’s all go marvin.
Or-Writing proverbs gets really boring. I’m leaving now.
“He who forgets to check the server functions and programs has to work it all over again. HA HA!”
No, it doesn’t really work, does it. I’ll have to think of something better. I am bursting with joy right now after a hard day. I memorized ‘The Jabberwocky’!!!
I like Juliette’s proverb.
I’m not a cowboy.
I’ve been experiencing problems while trying to connect to the Muse Blog homepage from the musefanpage. It says there is an error. Now I understand about me clicking a button way too many times the server can’t handle it.
seems like a good place to test the “slow down cowboy” feature thingy
yes it works!!!
i cant add a comment to smiley stories
and i just noticed post #10 on happy bday george+shotgun (my post) is a link
A LOTR Fan,
I just tried to fix the smiley stories post. Let me know if the comment form works for you now.
yep, it does, thanks
(but now i cant remember what i wanted to say…oh well)
A LOTR Fan,
About the link on comment #10 on the birthday post … Indeed, it’s a link. It’s not a troubling link, though. It just bounces up to the top of the page. So it’s cool. No problem.
again thanks,
sorry to bother you
No prob.
I’m logging off in a few minutes, though. It’s almost time to go grocery shopping and engage in other exciting Friday night activities. Like having dinner!
I just had major word press problems, nothing would display, but they’re gone now, just thought you’d want to now
Thanks. I’m still working on moving the database. The holdup is timing: I need to do it at a time when (1) I’m at home, (2) the blog is quiet, and (3) I’m awake. With all the new people flocking aboard lately, it’s been hard to find an opportunity. With luck, though, I’ll manage it soon.
