Because the blog’s software strips most formatting commands out of submitted comments, you can’t change the color or size of your text. Here are a few tricks you can do.
[NOTE: “Throwaway” spaces and characters no longer seem to be necessary, since the March 2008 upgrade. But it’s now necessary to put two spaces between smileys.]

How od you make those?
So you do a splooshed pie like this:

Wow.

How do you get your text green without creating a link?

At least on the old MB, it worked by putting an a between , like what I’m trying here. If it turns the text white, strikes it or translates it into cantonese, then don’t do it.
Putting a what between two bracketts? That would be > and < , exept reversed, right? Actually, just say what to put between the bracketts.
Enceladus:
<a> text you want green but not linked </a>
^ ^
( )_ _( )
{ }
{ 0 0 }
{ – }
( __*__)
use for extra spaces
^ ^
( )_ _( )
{ }
{ 0 0 }
{ – }
( __*__)
or <pre> stuff </pre>
Wow, green text! Awesome!
Thank you, Luna!!!!!
Don’t do it, please. The green is used to indicate links. When you type <a> followed by </a>, you’re really creating a link that doesn’t go anywhere. That can only create confusion. Here on MuseBlog, we stand for clarity and precision.
*makes brave attempt to appear clear and precise*
One can but try, Lady B.
Anti-linkey green text!
Luna the Lovely
Avatars are really simple, it just require a legit email. Go to gravatar dot com, type in your email, follow the activation link sent, and either upload a picture from your desktop, or find one online, and then you’re all set. It might take a little while for the image to refresh on the ‘blog, however….Hope this helps!
Rainbowstar’s Guide To Links
To make a link, use the following format, but use angle brackets instead of regular brackets. Make sure the angle brackets are the right way around.
[a href=”URL you’re linking to”]words or smileys you want linkified[/a]
Or, if you want to go advanced and make the little yellow text box that appears when you mouse over the link:
[a href=”URL you’re linking to” title=”what you want it to say in the yellow box”]words or smileys you want linkified[/a]
Example:

People, we have an HTML practice thread. Please stop cluttering this page with experiments or I will have to begin fining any PoPo-ers.
This was a job for the GAPA Zap of Doom, which has now successfully incinerated a slew of posts that did not belong here. This page is for instructions to add to the Hg2MB; it is NOT for practicing. As Piggy pointed out, there is a practice thread for that.
Um, I don’t know if this belongs on this page, but how do you log in to your WP account on here and get your pic to appear next to your name?
Oh, wait, nevermind! I got it! I just had to put in my right email address.
How do you make things crossed out???
11– [strike] whatever you want to be struck [/strike]
But instead of the regular brackets, use angle brackets, like these:
Angle brackets are…
< and >.
Oh, okay.

i think you can also use the option key for cool things

I used the shift, and the option keys.
GAPAs, I think the proper spelling would be “smilies,” not “smileys.”
Actually, the dictionaries that list “smiley” give “smileys” as a plural. At least all the ones I’ve checked. I can’t remember the reference right now, but neologisms are supposed to follow modern forms. For instance, “fora” if you’re referring to what you might find in ancient Rome, “forums” if you’re posting on the Internet.
Oh, true. Safari puts a red line under “smileys” (but not “smiley” or “smilies”), and it looks horrible to me, but I suppose I can’t argue with a dictionary.
(Also, people on my favorite forum tend to say “fora.”)
Option+Shift is cool as well. example. Option+K=˚, but Option+Shift+K=
How do you change the text? I know this but that’s it.
I’ll post the list of available HTML that used to be under the comment box.

Is there a way to underline, without making it green? I guess it doesn’t matter, but is there?.
errr how do we change our icons!!
If you misspell your e-mail address, your avatar will change. Or you can choose one by signing up at gravatar . com.
I see a cat avatar now. If you don’t, refresh your browser. If that doesn’t work, restart your browser. If that doesn’t work, clear your browser’s cache.
1. You don’t need to hit “submit” to see if HTML works. That’s why we have the “preview” button now.
2. Even if we didn’t have the preview button, you shouldn’t practice here. We have a thread for that.
I’ve noticed that some people link to a comment. Is there a way to link to the comment you want instead of just the general thread?
Yes. Here’s how:
https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=2361#comment-301535
You can find the comment number by hovering your cursor over the “reply” button and looking at the status bar at the bottom of your browser.
Yes, our idea is to transfer the information to the main page. Instead of closing the thread to comments, however, we’ll clear it and let people post new information if necessary. Like many things about the blog, however, we haven’t had time to do it as promptly and thoroughly as we would if we were the CEOs of MuseBlog International with thousands of employees at our beck and call. (Now, there’s an appealing fantasy.)
I understand. Hm… MuseBlog International… you could be onto something there. Taking over the world by governmental means isn’t going so well. Perhaps a corporate monopoly could work better? *schemes*
I’m sorry, that was pointless. *hands over choklit* Take your time, Robert. You’ve got a lot on your plate.
What about questions about code tricks? Where do those go?
See comment 8.
So, NOTHING AT ALL gets posted here?
If you know how to do some HTML trick (one that works on MuseBlog, that is) and it’s not listed here, then you can post the instructions. You can also make suggestions as to what other instructions should be included. Otherwise, stick with the HTML practice threads.
It’s actually fine, too, if no one posts anything here. Most subjects are probably covered by now, anyway, considering the limited amount of HTML permitted by the software.
I don’t think this has been posted yet:
To indent- & nbsp ; without the spaces. (Keep in mind this only indents the equivalent of one space.)
What is the HTML trick to make an arrow?
You can’t, not anymore. If you want to make an arrow, I’d suggest just using –>.
alt + 2 + 6 = Arrow on PC. → → →
alt + 2 + 7 = Arrow going the other way on PC. ↠↠â†

bubblebabe, This thread is for posting tricks that you wish to share with others, such as the info in comments 1, 6, 16, & 30. For testing/playing with HTML, go to the HTML practice thread. Thank you, have a nice
daynight.((I havent posted for so long, so most of you probably don’t know me.
So lets just say I’m a neophyte.))
These are awesome html! I was wondering how people did the little smiley faces. *hehe*
What are Þ/ and Ð/ ? It doesn’t look
writeright, but you know what I mean.(34) They’re called thorn and edh, Old English letters for the “th” sounds in “thin” and “then.” I wrote a Q&A column about them for Muse many years ago, and every now and then MBers try to revive them.
Edh (also spelled “eth”) is still used in the Icelandic alphabet. For example, it’s the third letter in the singer Björk’s last name, Guðmundsdóttir.
How do you cross things out?
[strike] but with angle brackets.
GAPAs, when all hell freezes over–that is, when free time finally rolls your way, perhaps the information in posts 16 and 25.1, and any necessary information in 1, could be moved to post 0?
You mean when
temphell<int(0) ?
This is very amazingly cool!!!! Thank you!!!
Hi Are you new? You might want to run down to the neophytes* thread, right here: https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=4783
*neophyte= newcomer (New Sprout in Greek)
And this thread is not the thread for testing out HTML. The correct thread is this one.
Something I found out: You know how we sometimes see random numbers inserted into the comments in the Recent Comments bar? Those are actually HTML.
SFTDP
Such as, & # 8230 ; without is an elipse. (…) Useless, but interesting.
cool! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

new smiley! ! ! !
Logogeo96, I normally hate when people reprimand other people who have been on a lot longer than them, but this is not the thread for testing out HTML. That thread is here.
[]
Wait…huh?!?
How do you show something in > and < brackets without it dissappearing?
I could sped about a dat reading up on what you’ve said, but I think I’ll just kinda go with the flow!!! Muse on, fellow readers!
And, if any of you know, How can I change my little icon! (I don’t really like it too much) Thanks for your help!:)
BlackBird-Go to Gravatar . com, register, and add an image under the e-mail you put in the e-mail box here. Then, pick an image to use. It may not show up for awhile, but don’t worry.
alalalalaI’d like to point something out- Two spaces are also no longer necessary between smileys. It works just fine without them.
Yay!
GAPAs: I know that you’re probably extremely busy and have a lot going on, so I hate to ask of something more from you, but I would like to
annoy youremind you that perhaps moving Piggy’s information from Post 16 to Post 0 would make my life just a tiny little bit better.Thank you. And, of course, if you don’t want to…I’m fine with that too.
whats w/ pink bunies
Hi, are you new? Just so you know, this isn’t the thread for testing smilies. That thread is here
As for the pink bunnies, they’re evil and known as HPBs (Hot Pink Bunnies).
Could the GAPA’s please post the code for the smileys at the top of the SSSS thread? It would make my life a whole lot easier!
How do you make bullets?
I’m pretty sure you need some lead, a copper head. I think they’re hollow, or is that the illegal type? They also need a bit at the back that gets flung off…
Oh. Wait. Wrong bullets.
No, bullets as in the typing ones. Although… *pulls out urn* But darn, I don’t have anything to shoot them with!
LBK- (For some reason my computer won’t let me reply) I’m fairly certain that they’re some kind of Windows Alt code, sorry.
Alt codes? There’s this: â—‹ which is sort of close… (Alt 9)

Wrong thread. Go to HTML practice.
How does one create the pink background to one’s text? Sorry, I haven’t been on the blog in quite a while and have failed in staying up to date.
When ten people “pie” your post, it automatically turns pink.
Wonderful! Thank you!
Please turn this post pink.
if you get 10 pies then your post will turn pink. but if you have 10 pies but 11 squids your post will not turn pink
Catwoman–
Or ten pies but one squid.
This thread won’t let me make replies, GAPAs.
54.2: There were no squid icons when sbf asked, just so you know. They haven’t been around forever. So when Piggy replied, he did say all there was to it at the time. When squids did become icons, sbf noticed. Since you didn’t know that, though, it wasn’t a bad idea to point out the squid anomaly!
I’d also like to mention for the benefit of future neophytes that a) squids are not dislike buttons and shouldn’t take away from pinkage, but it’s an HTML problem the GAPAs can’t fix and b) A squidded post can still be pink if there are at least 10 more pies than squids, so if there are 12 pies and 2 squids, it’s pink.
61.1: For moving pies, it’s : arrow : without spaces. For stationary ones, it’s : . : without spaces.

Even though this comment should have been made on the HTML Practice thread (*wags finger*), it makes me strangely happy to see all the smileys together like that.
GAPAs, there’s a URL in this person’s name.
Are you new? Welcome!
I recommend checking in on the Welcome, Neophytes! thread.
Where do people get all those other symbols?
Just checking if this works.

qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmThe smilies seem to have changed, and there’s no pies or HPBs anymore.
I guess we’ve had another automatic WordPress upgrade. Whenever that happens, I have to go back in and restore our customized emoticons. Patience, please!
As suspected, the upgrade *shudder* was the culprit, but I think things are back to normal now. Voilà :
Thanks for taking care of it!
While you’re fixing things, what happened to the squid button? It looks like a smilie face now.
Interesting — it still looks like the same old squid to me. What are your device, operating system, and browser?
Nevermind, it’s back to normal now. Weird.
