Kokonventions

Here’s our policy about meeting other MBers offline:

  • MuseBlog’s administrators do not encourage you to do it.
  • We won’t help you plan to do it.
  • If you insist on holding a real-world meeting, your parents must plan it and supervise it.
  • To assure us that they are involved, your parents should e-mail us at gapa @ musefanpage.com. We will help them exchange e-mail addresses, and they can take it from there.
  • Any details about meetings (exact time and place, what you’ll be wearing, etc.) must stay off the blog. Please don’t try to post them. We won’t let you.
  • After a Kokonvention, we will post photographs of Kokonvening MBers with parental permission.
  • That’s all we will do.

Your friends,
The GAPAs

  1. Oohyay! Thank you, GAPAs, for giving us a thread to discuss this on other than SoCalKoKon! Now we can start promoting the Boston kokon!
*promotpromotpromote* If you live in MA or near the Boston area, come to the Boston kokonvention on June 12! We have five MBers so far, and maybe if we collect a few more, one of the GAPAs could come! Wouldn’t that be cool!?!?

  2. Okay, I’m reposting what I put on the SoCalKoKon thread:
My mom sent in her e-mail and she said it was recieved. She also said the GAPAs told her to tell me to remind everybody else going to the Kokon in NYC who hasn’t already sent in their e-mail to send it ASAP.

  3. 4- Kokonventions are when Musers get together somewhere (like a museum) to meet each other. Sometimes a GAPA comes, but the kokons are arranged by parents. There’s a kokon on June 12th in Boston that I’m going to.

  4. Hmm, is it coincidental that this thread was created the day I kokonvened with Purple Panda and Taiwan Hippo Fan?

Anyways, I’ll probably be sending some pics after I get back home in a few days.

    1. Yes, I think it is very coincidental. I have some good pictures of our Kokopelli signs; perhaps I’ll send one in.

  5. The 12th? Shoot, would it be after 2:30? I have school. That’s a Friday, right?

[Please read the original post at the top of the page and see what it says about discussing times. –Admin.]

    1. You still have school on the 12th? Man, I considered myself unlucky for having school over on June 5th, but…

      1. We have it well into June’s 20s, although that’s mostly just Exams.

  6. People in NH/ME have school way into the 20s… I consider myself lucky that my last day is the 12th.

8- It will be well after school, the but the parents are talking times right now, I’m not really sure when… have your parents e-mail the GAPAs if you want to be a part of it. They’ll send my parents your parents’ emails and then we can work something out from there. :D

  7. My last day is also the 12th. Plus I have a trip after that.

California kokon, anyone? I know me, CTN, and R101 would probably come, so anyone else who came would get to meet three new people! Anyone up for it?

  8. Is anyone near Cleveland? I know of one other MBer around there, but a Kokon won’t be fun with only two.

  11. 19- Me! And Me! And Alice! And DuckyFlutePlayer, since en apparently lives in Oregon, too! We could have a, you know, Pacific Northwest Kokon!

Sorry, I’m hyper because my mom gave me a cup of tea with caffiene to keep me awake working on my project. My delicate, un-caffiene-contanimated system reacts way over-the-top when the drug gets in the bloodstream.

20- I know someone who lives in Minnesota… I don’t think that counts. Her name’s Stephanie.

C’mon, people! Anyone else for the Boston kokon? Pleeeeaase? Bookworm? Cliff Eagle? Brendan? Anyone else I don’t know about? Guys (CE+Bookworm+Brendan), I thought you were all excited about this, and when we start planning you all disappear! :?

    1. I would, Armada, I really would… I don’t think I’ll be able to get down there.

I’m in Vermont, and my parents aren’t too keen on traveling. Or, come to think of it, meeting people from the internet. Although I am sixteen – they might cut me a break.

    -Mah homegirl Sequoia
    -Armada
    -Rosequartz

    MAYBE:
    -gradster
    -Cliff Eagle
    -Bookworm

  18. C-PM and Kokopelli52. Sorry, but your comments got out of sequence because they were replies to a comment that was retrozapped. 1. Minimally, which is why the GAPAs don’t endorse Kokons. All specific details are kept off the blog and in emails between parents of bloggers, so the chances of internet stalkers finding Kokonventioneers is extremely low. Parents have to be present at Kokonventions, as well.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  20. 34- You should be, homeskillet. :D
35- Not really. The parentals are there the whole time, and though it may be considered obtuse by most, I seriously doubt there is anyone dangerous on MB.

    Squid 0
  21. 27.1- ‘Kay. Oh, well.

30.1- I think he’s coming…. but I agree, it would be nice to have more boys. Electros probably wouldn’t be too thrilled about being in an all-girl crowd.

RoseQuartz, I’m so sorry, but I think we’re not going to be able to see each other before the official kokon. My parents have decided that this trip is also a good opportunity to go shopping and breed our bunny (don’t ask, please don’t ask), and at this point it’s either not have extra time with you or not bring electros. So I’m really sorry, but I don’t think it’s going to work… We might figure something out and be able to fit in a half-hour or something, but I figured I’d better tell you now instead of just before the kokon.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  22. 37 – yeah, but isn’t it better to be safe than sorry? Sorry about that… everyone on the Chatterbox knows I’m too paranoid.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. This is why we insist that parents make the arrangements and that planning details stay off the blog. We also stay alert to any signs that someone may not be who en seems. There are no perfect guarantees of course. We’d have to find a different universe for that.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
    2. Hey, I know how you feel! I’m paranoid too, and I’m sorry guys, but I really can’t meet anyone I meet on the internet…I’m sure there are good people on here, but with screen names, avatars, etc. you can get the “wrong impression” really easily. Sorry to be the party pooper. And I’m not trying to say this is a bad idea for the rest of you, I’m just way too paranoid for my own good……

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. Phew… I’m not alone.

39.1 – wouldn’t it be nice if there was a universe where stalking others just for fun didn’t exist? Of course, then I’d find something else to freak out about. ;)

  23. Yes, is there anyone who lives in Minnesota??? (who I don’t know off the blog) because I know somebody said we have an insanely high concentration of MBers here and if it is true that we do, we should kokonvene.

  26. CPM- Yeah! I was actually referring to a Spokane-area ko-kon, as 3 musers including me all live in that area, but we definitely have to have a big ko-kon this summer!

    Pie 0

  28. Wait. Help. I lost my towel, I’m missing a major piece here. There’s a Kokon in Boston?! Well then! Who’s coming, when is it? I’m in the CT/Mass area and my grandparents are in Concord so it won’t be too difficult to persuade my mom…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  29. 49- Oh, yay! Another possible kokon go-er!!! The Boston kokon is on June 12th, but you need to get your parents to email the GAPAs for more info. MissSwann, Armada, RoseQuartz, myself, and possibly electros are coming. (I hope I didn’t forget anyone!)

    Pie 0

  30. How do you think that I should explainthis to my mom? I don’t think that it would go over well with her if I said something like “Mom, I want to meet up with these people that I met a couple weeks ago on this online thing”.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  31. 52- It helps if you tell her about MB and how great and safe it is a few days (or weeks) before you tell her that you want to have a kokon. My parents knew about MB and its safety policy since the beginning, so I didn’t have any problems with kokonvening.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  32. 52- I was just thinking the same thing…”Hey mom! Yeah, I met these really cool friends online, and they want to meet up! Can I go?”

  33. Cinamoon- Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. :D

I was really excited when my dad actually brought up the subject of meeting MuseBloggers. I guess he is that sort of person. My mom…not so much, but I don’t think she would explicitly forbid me to go when my dad’s on my side. He’s won plenty of “Kyra’s freedoms” arguments with her. He was the one who allowed me to ride the city bus in eigth grade and who got me a DS. Thanks, dad! He’s also teaching me to drive. *is filled with gratitude for dad*

Main point- When? I’m free the entire month of August and the entire week three weeks from now.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. There’re probably a few MBers in Chicago… How long it takes depends. The biggest thing is everyone getting their parents to email the GAPAs, without that you can plan all you like but the kokon’ll never happen. Ask your parents.

      Pie 0

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
        1. So did we! Awesome!

Y’know, we should probably start planning identification, even if only for one person that the others can group around… I mean, the kokon’s in less than a week, for gods’ sake. 8O

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
            1. Sounds good (though we should really keep the ID off the blog). I think I’m going to wear….but ask your mom to email the other people.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0
              1. OK, will do. You may not get an email for awhile though, because my grandfather is coming today and stays till Wed. morning…

It would be much simpler if the Kokonventioneers could just email each other, though. GAPAs, is that allowable? Would that work?

                Squid 0
                    1. I don’t have an IM account. :( I mean, my parents will let me have one, I just never got around to getting it. I could get one, though…. *stalks back*

Hehe, our parents SHOULD worry about stalkers. Us.

And if you did get an account, further Kokons would get a lot simpler. And faster.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Comecomecome! First tell your parents about MB, what a great, safe place it is, read them the safety policy, and the next day ask if you can come to the kokon. They’ll probably be more open to the idea that way.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  43. Boston kokoners, do you know if the Science Museum has a cafeteria? We’re thinking about bringing pies…. Also, which issues of Muse are people bringing for the obligatory kokoners-reading-Muse photo, and does the museum have wifi? (I’m going to bring my laptop so we can connect with MB.)

    Pie 0

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
        1. Our family isn’t too good at eating out, especially not in cafeterias, so we’re bringing a dinner. We’re going to “Pirates!” at the Huntington after the Kokon. It starts at 8… we were either going to eat in the car or at the caf. Are you planning to bring something to eat in the cafeteria? Because we probably won’t do it if we’re the only ones.

  44. Fiddler is an occasional frequenter of cities, where Kokonventions are more apt to take place than in her backyard.
Places on my list of go there regularly or am planning to go sometime in the relatively near future are as follows:
Washington DC (obviously, I live about an hour away)
Williamsburg, VA (volunteer activities and history nut haunt)
Chicago (passing through on my way to my grandparents) near
Milwaukee or Madison WI (the town they’re in is actually kind of small, though Robert used to live near there.)
Boston (sometime we’re planning on going..)
    Montreal (but I’ll be alone-ish.)
Oswego, NY (again, I’ll be alone-ish. On a ship with a bunch of people, who are not related and know not about MB.)

How do I get my signature on the MB signature t-shirt, by the way? Is it automatically added?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Okay. I think I’ll bring a really old one, from ’06 or something….I dunno. Maybe I’ll bring the November ’08 one.
No, every year there’s a new signature shirt, and every MBer who sends their signature in to the GAPAs (either by email or regular mail) gets it put on the shirt. So you won’t be on the ’08 signature shirt, but if you make a signature and send it in when the GAPAs post a ‘signatures now being collected’ announcement, you’ll get your sig on this year’s shirt.

 Hey mom! Yeah, I met these really cool friends online, and they want to meet up while we’re in New York! Can I go?
 I don’t think so, Mira. It’s too dangerous.
 But it’s MuseBlog and it’s so awesome and I’ll be veryvery careful and–
 I said NO.), unless we just HAPPENED to meet up somewhere by pure chance (or it seemed like it to the parents, at least).

…Are you thinking what I’m thinking? -looks devious-
We shouldn’t talk about this here, though…I’m not sure what I could do with my email, maybe set up a MuseBlog folder.

Who else is in the NC area besides Rebecca and myself?

I have to admit, though, the pic of MS, me, and you against the greenscreen was pretty funny. We have to share pictures!

            1. When Bookworm does it, it is. When the adults do it, they always give me my soul back afterwards. Bookworm sold his soul for a book, so there’s no telling what he’d do with mine.
And the picture has to be of my face.

And can you cc us? I cc’d you guys when I sent mine last night. And I’m about to get some more off of my cell phone camera. Plus the videos. Which are even shorter than yours.

As far as we are concerned, only their parents may do that, and we will happily put MBers’ parents in touch with one another.

    1. Basically, you have your parents email the GAPAs telling them that you have permission to do a kokon. When other bloggers’ parents email them too, the GAPAs give all the parents each other’s email addresses, and then they can plan a kokon. Does that help?

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
        1. Oh, great! We’d love to have you come. Here’s Armada’s Generic Advice To Kokoners Whose Parents May Not Approve: If your parents don’t know about MB, then tell them about it, its great safety policies, ect. a few days before bringing up kokonvening. If they do know about MB, tell them about kokonvening and its safety policy a few days before asking if you can have a kokon. In your case, you should also tell them that SudoRandom had a kokon and didn’t get kidnapped or anything. :D (Yup, he did, if you didn’t know this already. I was one of the kokoners. See pictures here.)

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. I’m afraid I won’t be able to come. My parents (Well, mainly my Dad, my Mom’s convinced it’s ok) are skeptical about it, and my Dad has what I call “internet paranoia” which is basically thinking that everyone on the internet is evil and out to extort/ harm/ kidnap you, except people you know in real life. :( :( :(

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. Your father is right to be cautious. Kokonventions make us nervous, too, and we’ll say again (and again and again) that we don’t encourage them.

We do enjoy hearing from MB parents, however. Instead of telling your parents about us, why don’t you give them our e-mail address (gapa @ musefanpage . com) and let them communicate with us directly? We’ll gladly answer their questions about the blog and even, if they like, give them the e-mail addresses of the parents of every kid who has ever Kokonvened. How’s that for transparency?

              Pie 0
              Squid 0

            2. When I grow up and have kids I’ll be internet paranoid too, probably, and they’ll be upset at me. Oh well. I’m paranoid about just about everything.

Maybe if someone brought up a kokon in my area I’d look into it more, but I don’t think I’d feel safe doing it, or suggesting one, sorry. I’m sure all of them are safe and everything.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
              1. I’m telling you… My parents would NOT give in to some thing so quickly. Plus, I have to wait until I get home. Right now, with everyone watching (the computer is in the middle of the open-roomed house…), it would be uncomfortable, and she would probably say, “You should just show me when we get home.” There is a .01% chance of both of them agreeing to go to NYC to meet some people I met online(in a week!). The other 99.99% is a very long lecture about stalkers. Maybe if Daisy*Chain could go… But I know that she can’t. But if next time she can go, then that would raise my chances.

  88. Now it’s time to talk about The Kokonvention That Never Happened: The Portland Kokonvention! We have a month left, guys!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
          1. Or Mars. Portland is the name of one of the houses in Pigfarts.

            Pigfarts, Pigfarts,
            Here I come.
            Pigfarts, Pigfarts,
            Yum, yum, yum!

            -A

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
              1. I just completely made that up. Random location that popped into my head: Mars. What else is on Mars? Pigfarts!

                1+1=3.

                -A

  89. Hm, so it looks like there was little notice (Thanks for responding, Ducky!) for my announcement. So I ask everyone, I mean EVERYONE who lives in either Oregon or Washington to reply to this post. Is there a possibility for you, in the near future, to attend a Kokonvention in Portland?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. The most likely circumstance under which I would be able to go wuold be if either off my parents had another reason to drive 4 hours to Portland other than a Kokon. I’ll try asking my mom, though I’m not sure if I’d be able to go.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  90. GAPAs, I sent in some boat pics! They’re purty! Please post them; I sent them in in early August!

It would be nice if, this winter break, the SoCal MBers got together. But more of them, please! I don’t mind Kokonvening with Rainbowstar (not at all, she’s quite nice and bloggerly really), but I think we both wan to meet some others (and I know you’re out there, I know where you live…).

And there are already tentative plans that if there’s another Kokon, I could sleep over at her house! *sparkle*

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. Popsicle stick boat. RS made it, didn’t want it, so I took it.

Maybe they bounced. I’ll send the email again… *plods off*

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
  91. I’m jealous of all of the MBers who have had kokons! Does anyone live in the TN area or the SC area? (I visit SC about once a year)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. I have a friend in NC, maybe when I visit her I could try to convince my parents to let me get together with you for a little bit, so that I wouldn’t have to spend the entire time pretending that RPattz and Twilight are awesome in order to avoid being strangled.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
  92. Are there any mid-Florida MBers, like Orlando? I’m likely going up to my grandparents for Christmas, in Las Vegas, so are there any MBers there?

153.1-Not even close; I’m in Florida…I’m heading up to NYC once again at the end of August, but only for a few days, because I’m going to the Annie auditions.

Oh, and I just checked out the SoCalKoKon thread, and it doesn’t make me feel quite so young. At the most, of those Kokonventioneers, there’s a one-to-two-year age gap between our ages! Yeah! -dances around-

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  93. Here’s an idea for a sort-of-Kokon involving Club Penguin.

First, some background information about Club Penguin. It’s a website where you (represented by a cartoon penguin) can waddle around a virtual world and do stuff like play games, chat with other players, and buy furniture and clothes. Here’s the Wikipedia article:
    http:/ /en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Penguin

So, the idea is: Everyone who has a CP account can “meet” there at a certain time and place. Virtual Kokon!

GAPAs, would we be allowed to post specifics of time and place on-blog, since we aren’t really meeting each other? (CP blocks personal information.)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. WHOA. HOLD THE PHONE. Boston kokon, the 5th? I wasn’t notified… why??? And who’s we??? I’m so there!!!!!!!! Email me, woman!!!!!!!!!!!

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
        1. I thought I told you! But yes, there is a maybe-Boston-slash-maybe-western Mass kokon on the 5th. And I might be sleeping over at Armada’s! :D

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. Yes, I wanted to talk to you about that. My parents are wondering if you do want to sleep over, and if so, come the day before or stay till the day after? (We should probably discuss details over email, but I just wanted to get that out there.)

Oh, and by the way, all Boston Western Mass kokoners, my parents suggested that “after” the kokon, everyone who wanted to could come over to our house and we could have a bonfire. Does that sound good to anyone?

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
  94. Is there an actual plan for the Boston Kokon? Have anybody’s parents emailed the GAPAs? I haven’t asked my parents yet, so I’m not sure if I can go.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. I think it’s in Western Mass. now. I’ll make SudoRandom email you the details, since I don’t have your email and the GAPAs might snip them.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
  95. Another SoCal Kokon over winter break?

    SoCal MBers:
    Me
    Rainbow
    CTN
    R101
    AthenianPsycho
    Axa

Anyone else? Did I get something wrong? *chew*

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  96. I have a question for the GAPAs. Supposing that there is a Kokon that I am within driving distance of. Is there any way I can come to it without having one or more of my parents there? Because if I ask my parents to come with me, they will say: “You’re twenty years old, you should be able to do these things yourself.”

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  97. Wow. I never thought of that.

In two years, I’ll be legally able to do whatever I want. In this context, anyway. Actually, even in one, I bet my parents would be more likely to let me.

Hey guys – who wants to meet gradster1 the fourth-year?

    -A

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Oh, I’ve thought of that. Lots of times. Not that I’ve ever been anywhere near a Kokon, but chances are, if I were ever near one, it would be while I’m at college, with no parents to fly out to chaperone. ((too expensive, obviously))

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. I can honestly say that for some reason I just have never thought about anything like that. It completely… passed my mind, I think is the idiom.

        (I’m not good with idioms.)

SLIPPED. There we go. It slipped my mind.

        -A

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
        1. Probably because you are not 18 or older, and thus have not thought about it. I having been 18+ for…goodness, a year and a half, ahve htought of it.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. I figure once I hit seventeen… I’ll be fine. No more troubles. Old enough to be slightly responsible – but young enough to be watched over.

  98. So: NC Kokon?
I’m pretty sure my parents would be okay with the idea (I mentioned it once in passing and my mom thought it sounded like a fun idea).
I guess we’d need to figure out where/when. Ideas?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. My parents would more then likely be opposed to the idea. *winces* But maybe I could twist their arm. Of course, my mother would insist on coming. It should be somewhere fairly close by to everyone. Maybe the art museum? Or the zoo? Or… somewhere?

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. My parents would want to come too, probably. Work on getting yours to agree to it, okay? :)

I don’t know which art museum or zoo you’re referring to. You’re going to need to name a city there. Anywhere in the Triangle is reasonably accessible for me.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
    2. I asked my mom if I could come and she said yes. :D My mom will be coming along with me, of course. ;)
I think I’d be able to come any time as long as it isn’t November. And if it’s in the Triangle, that would be reasonably accessible for me, too. The zoo in Asheboro would also be within a reasonable drive.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. Excellent!
I’ve got marching band season through the end of October, and if November doesn’t work for you, perhaps the beginning of December would be best?

GAPAs, should I have my mother email you as well?

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
        1. Yes, please do.

As for me, anywhere in the Triangle or Triad area would be easily accessible. Since I’m in the museum biz, I get regular newsletters about upcoming exhibits and such, so I can check to see if anything especially Muserly is on the horizon.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
          1. Awesome! You mean at the art museum or someplace like that? I just asked my Mom and she isn’t totally opposed immediately. That’s a good sign. :) I absolutely can’t do it in October, because I’m absolutely crazy. November… maybe.

            Pie 0
            Squid 0
            1. Hooray! That is a good sign. :)
My October is absolutely crazy too (a bunch of big projects due, plus marching band practice, plus a competition almost every Saturday and a game almost every Friday, plus my little sister’s bat mitzvah). Koppar said that November is out, so how does December look for you?

Hey all you Boston Kokoners! Listen up! If you see this in the recent comments bar, CLICK IT!
So, a bunch of museums in Boston are doing free admission. Sound like a good oppertunity for a Kokon? Come on, please? ((Enceladus, I know you can’t, but I’m begging you anyway. PLEASE COME!))

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. *wants*

Hmm… If it’s on a weekend, I’m on the Blog pretty much all day. So I can be there virtually with you. If you bring a laptop. And if the GAPAs make a thread for “virtual Boston Kokonventioners” That way, Piggy could “come”.(If the GAPAs would be so kind to moderate alot.)

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. ((You said that if it was only two or three people, you might be able to come? We live the closest, what If it was just us? (Sorry, other Kokoners, I just figured it’s such short notice you might not be able anyway…)))

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
            1. Yes, I mean that.

Oh, and just for a test, I searched “Prussiania” and it came up with a lot of information about you. I didn’t read it, I just saw R. Coontz mentioned on all the pages.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0
            1. I don’t know if that will work. I’ve told him about the pictures, and he expressed doubt. I really don’t think that I can kokon, unless AM does, then I’ll be able to convince him.

              Squid 0
    1. 1. Where do you live? I’m a Nashville-area gal.

  101. Does anyone wish to have a Kokon/Mini-Kokon over winter break in the Detorit or metro-Detroit area? I would be willing to host, at a public place! We have a great art museum!

    Pie 0

  102. As SudoRandom said, the Harry Potter exhibit at the MoS would be a good Massachusetts Kokon opportunity…(sorry if that was too specific…)

  103. All righty, SoCal kokonveners! It’s November! Winter break is coming up!

I am busy on December 28th. I have an orthodontist appointment. XD. It’s gonna hurt like crap. So no anniversery kokon of last year’s. :( Oh well. Sometime before that would be good, so I’m not griping and moaning about my po’ li’l mouth. *rubs mandibles* (Why yes, we are studying the human body is science, why do you ask?)

    1. Minnesotan MBers, declare yourselves!

A Minnesota/Twin Cities Kokon is in the making, but it is supposed to be this weekend, so any interest has to be communicated quickly.

I don’t know if there are any other Minnesotan MBers, though… I think MARFwarrior, Goldendoodle, and I are the only ones, though I may be wrong.

      Pie 0

  105. Oh my. I feel bad now. I never responded. Erm… I’m not sure about the Kokon. I wish I had gotten away from my insane school to come back on here before Christmas break. *head desk* Honestly, my mother is usually slow on things like this. She wasn’t totally opposed the first time I said something to her, but I’m not sure if she wasn’t just agreeing with me so that I would stop bugging her. I will talk to her and maybe get her to email the gapas.

    Pie 0

      Pleeease?
I’d offer to let your dad talk to me in order to prove we aren’t stalkers, except that would decrease our chances, and since I’d be the one he’d be talking to, it might be more of a hindrance than a help. ;)
      But seriously, come. Bring AM.
And tell your dad that he can come along and meet everyone before we head off into the museum or whatever, if you think that will help.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. I could only bring AM if his parents agree, and his dad is more paranoid than mine. I think that he will be ok, as long as it’s during a week we have little to do, and with people who’ve have already gone before.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
        1. Possibly. If so, people that live in/near MA (in no particular order):
          Enceladus
          Ambystoma Maculatum (sp?)
          RoseQuartz
          gradster1
          Armada

          Princess_Magnolia
          SudoRandom

Sequoia (hasn’t been around for a while, though)
Bookworm (also hasn’t been around for a while)
          Silver_Leopard, I think
          electros
Jock (although he never posts either, he’d probably come if I went)
I think there are a few more.
I also think that Peary and KaiYves (and apparently Fishy and probably Daisy*Chain, according to earlier in this thread) live somewhere in NY, don’t know if they could come.

          Pie 0
          Squid 0
            1. Did I? Foolish me. I don’t know where it would be, maybe the science museum again. Depends on where’s best for people. The upside to the science museum is that there’s the Potter exhibit, although that costs a bit more money.

              Pie 0
              Squid 0
  107. GAPAs, my parents are a bit confused by the whole ‘kokonvention’ thing, and I was wondering maybe if I could email you their email? I’ve already explained to them as best I could and showed them this thread, but they’re still a bit foggy on the whole subject.
If you don’t want me to do that, I can just try to convince them that we’re all not complete maniacs, and that if we meet up, we won’t plant a lot of flowers…
If you agree, I’ll warn them first so that when they receive an email from “THE GAPAs” they won’t be utterly confused and what not.
Sorry, this was longer than I thought it would turn out.

  109. peary- I’d love to, but unfortunately my obsession with meeting Enceladus is driving me insane. Don’t believe me? Just now I went to the grocery store. Someone was there that matched Enc’s description of himself almost exactly, in my mind, at least, and as I was wearing my MB sweatshirt, I followed him around the store inconspicuously and made sure he saw the front of my sweatshirt.
I’d delete this post because I sound like a serious stalker, but I’m secretly hoping it was Enc, he’ll post about it, and we’ll both agree to go back immediately and meet in the jello section.

You say your hair is almost shoulder length? And you’re part Asian, right? I feel like you said that somewhere… Do you wear glasses? If so, I think I know exactly what you look like.

Teehee, I’m so excited about this finally happening, even my cat is getting annoyed. I was telling her (again) about how I’m going to kokon with you, and she tried to put her paw on my mouth and yawned right in my face. (That’s what it looked like, anyway.) I get it, Frances, I get it.

  112. Urgh. I just reread this whole thread from top to bottom and would like to clarify something:

I do not live in what most people consider SoCal. However, I do live in the state of California. So, me at a SoCal kokon would be possible, if A. People’s idea of “South” changed”, or it just wasn’t too far south of B. It were during some break. Some break that isn’t too close to now.

And I really, really, really want to go to a Kokon someday, but I’m not sure if it’s ever going to happen :(

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. Me too. I’m trying to convince my mom that she absolutely needs to go to America and take me with her in the near future… But I’ve talked to her about MB and I’m fairly sure she would let me kokon- if we end up in the USA.

  113. Hello. Silver Lining is much too tired to read all of those Enceladus-obsessed posts above her, and she is also not sure how exactly a Kokonvention works, but she REALLY REALLY does want to come to this one! She did not come last year because she still considered herself a ‘phyte and was nervous about meeting people she barely knew. Silver Lining plans on posing the question to her parents soon. Stay tuned for further developments…

Also, may I bring a friend, who is a lurker, with me, granted her parents also agree (which I’m betting they won’t)? She is very nice and always asks for updates about you guys.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
      1. Hm, we seem to be thinking on the same brainwave.
SL, the date is looking like March 13th, (can I say that?) especially if you want to meet Pseudonym and Keiffer. Just telling you in case that effects your parents’ decisions.

        Pie 0
        Squid 0
    1. We’d love to have her!
What part of how kokons work do you not understand? Basically, you convince your parents to email the GAPAs saying they give their permission for you to come, and then the GAPAs put your parents in touch with the other parents, and the parents plan when and where it happens.

      Pie 0
      Squid 0
      1. Ok, thanks. That part about contacting other parents was the part I didn’t understand. I really want to ask my mom right now, but she and my dad are talking with Debbie The Realtor Lady, who is trying to figure out how much our house is worth. I’m trying to figure out how to say it.

        “Hey, Mama?”
        “Yes?”
“Have I ever told you about how MuseBloggers sometimes meet each other offline if they all live in the same state or whatever?”
“Um, yes/no (depending on whether I have told her or not).”
“Well, right now some MBers are planning one in Massachusetts. May I go? *proceeds to explain all details*”

And then hopefully she’ll talk to my dad and I will be able to come!!!!! Yay.

Oops. I just got yelled at because I was jumping up and down and saying, “Yay!” and they were unable to hear Debbie The Realtor Lady clearly.

        Pie 0

  114. So, I’m compiling a list of MBers who want to come:

    SudoRandom
    Keiffer
    Princess_Magnolia
    Pseudonym
    Silver Lining
    Enceladus.

Any other takers? (I’m hoping at the MoS in Boston)

I just realized that most of the people coming are Beatles fans. Anybody want to bring a CD player, and Beatles songs?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
    1. MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!!!!! Please! I can bring my iPod, and I have a very small speaker that is portable. I think it would work nicely. (I have over 200 Beatles songs on my iPod, last time I checked.)

192.1.1– Okay, March 13th. That will probably work. I’m leaving on the 19th to go to my cousin’s wedding. *really wants Debbie The Realtor Lady to leave right now*

Anyway, I think my family’s planning on taking a trip up through TN, to Philadelphia. It would be awesome if I could stop in TN and Kokon with Fireh and then come up to Philadelphia and Kokon with you, but a) I don’t know where in PA you are, and b) I really don’t know at all what my parents would think of me meeting random people I met online.

My parents: Uh… I think I’m gonna have to say absolutely positively not
Me: I promise they’re not creepy! Well, maybe except for Beavo, and I have some doubts about Enceladus and SudoRandom and then Bookgirl_Me is from another country and is therefore a terrorist, and…
          My parents: *are not reassured*
Me: But I’m not meeting any of those! The only person in those areas are girl about my age! And both of them are newer to MuseBlog, so I don’t know them as well! And I’m sure they’re fine!
My parents: Right. Um… Well… We’ve got this trip pretty thoroughly planned, maybe next time…
Me: But I’ve asked, and none of them live anywhere near us!
          My parents: O_o

If we postponed it one week, she could come (she reallyreally wants to), but that means it would be on the 20th. I’m fine with that, I just don’t know if other people can’t come. This week, my sisters violin group is going on a three day tour, Thurs-Sat.

    Wednesday/Thurs: Atlanta, Georgia
    Friday: Greenville, SC
    Saturday: Gatlinburg, TN.

I know that there’s probably no one who could kokon these days/places, but I’m just putting it here in case.

  132. Okay, so I’m probably going up to Philadelphia, through Tennessee, and LBK and Starr are in or close to Philadelphia, and Fireh and Mas0n are in Tennessee, correct?
And Starr says she doesn’t think her parents would agree, LBK hasn’t expressed an opinion, Fireh’s parents are supportive, Mas0n’s parents are unknown, and Mas0n has not yet been included in the planning to any great extent.
So what part of Tennessee are you in, Fireh? We’ll be passing through (And staying in for a few days) the upper/central/Nashville area.

      1. Haven’t brought it up to my parents yet. I’m slightly scared of doing so, to be honest. I usually am.
Like when I was small (Maybe eight or ten) I wanted a mouse, so I started saving up my money, and figured I’d ask my parents when I had enough.
Some years and way way more than enough money later, my sister and my best friend finally gave me the mice.
But anyway, slightly relevant digressions aside, I’ll start working up nerve to ask. I’ll preface it with a discussion or two about how MB is really cool, because you can know literally everyone on here fairly well, etc.
I think we’ll be through there sometime in June. We’re getting the floors redone, so we decided to take a trip during that time.
        And the Parthenon’s sounds flammy.

    3. I actually did talk to my parents, but unfortunately they’re not too agreeable. They looked at the site, they agreed that you guys all seem to be good people and they like the moderation system, but they’re still not on board about meeting in person – yet. Sorry! :( I seriously wish I could though!

Still, I told them that I thought you would be in Philadelphia, but I didn’t know when. I don’t know if we can do this on blog, but could you approximately say when you’ll be up here? That might help since even though we’re near Philly, it’s still a bit of a hike. We could easily get there in a day, but it’s not like we’re directly in Philly, if you know what I mean. (sorry, had to be sort of subtle there so I don’t know if it makes any sense)

On the other hand, we’re getting our floors redone, and it’d be easier to go on a trip during that time, but Mom’s been talking about what we’d do if we were still living in this house during that time…
I don’t know. I’ll tell you as soon as I have a decision as to whether we’re going, and I’ll ask my parents as soon afterwards as possible. They’ll probably say no, this sounds like something I’d say no to if my daughter just randomly came up to me and asked about this. Once when I was in graduate school, I was biking home from a lab after midnight when I saw what I thought was a cat sitting on the ground in the quad. As I rode past, it rose into the air with slow, silent wingbeats and flew away. It was like something in a dream.

                  1. It looks like an OWL. There were no pictures of owls in teacups that I could find, so I am declaring that kitteh an owl from now on.

          1. The hello was for getting people to see the Charlotte Kokon. The we need a new thread was because my previous post wasn’t clear. To me.

  141. Oregon kokon, anyone? I’m in the northeastern area, but Portland would be an okay location, as long as it’s at the right time.
