Anyone remember droopy dog? He’s become one of my favorite cartoon characters. :)

2- No? How about Top Cat? Or Yosemite Sam? Or Huckleberry Hound? Foghorn Leghorn? Yogi bear? Any of them sound familiar? They can’t all have been forgotten.

Thanks, Cartoon Network, for locking away all the golden age cartoons and brainwashing children with “Camp Lazlo” and “My Gym Partner’s A Monkey.” *Shudder.*

Actually, Cartoon Network has a channel called Boomerang that runs a lot of old cartoons. It’s great, but it’s on 256/356 (I forget which) on Cox cable.

      (and Disney Channel’s worse)

  4. Let’s not forget the inimitable “Rocky and Bullwinkle.”

  5. Underdog! (The original, not the remake.)

I always liked the theme song. And now for the chorus:

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder
Fighting all who rob or plunder

    Underdog. Underdog!

    • Oh, yes. There were some great theme songs in that era. A family favorite:

When you find yourself in danger,
When you’re threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like you will take a lickin’,
              There is someone waiting,
Who will hurry up and rescue you,
              just call for Super Chicken!

True confession: I first learned Beatles songs from watching their cartoon show.

4- I remember that show…I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle, but I couldn’t stand the Peabody and Sherman shorts. That dog and that kid annoyed me. Greatly.

5- Look, in the sky!
    :o It’s a bird!
    It’s a plane!
    :P It’s a frog!
    :? Frog? Eh?
Underdog: Not plane, nor bird, nor even frog, it’s just little old me–*klunk*–ow…underdog.

4- I love Rocky & Bullwinkle! My Dad watched it as a kid, so we got him all of the seasons on DVD…….

Speaking of animations, we’re making short animated clips in Tech. Ed. They’re pretty fun, actually.

What are people’s opinions of Tom & Jerry? In my opinion, that is perhaps the best “classic” cartoon ever. I wish I could’ve been born earlier and under different circumstances so I could’ve been in the Tom & Jerry Orchestra.

Ah, Tom and Jerry? My friend is obsessed with that, and although I haven’t seen much of it, I like it. Uh, Popeye the Sailor Man? Haha spinach! (enh, sorry)

That would have been fun. *Is grumpy about being born in’95*. A lot of nice classical music peices I first heard on cartoons.
My dad has 12 dvds of Looney Tunes. No repeats. Its kind of funny how much racist stuff they let on public children’s telivision back then/
*goes of to find somewhere to talk about the three stooges*

And violence/profanity as well. On Tom & Jerry they use the word “jackass” (in the donkey sense) and I can’t believe the violence there. But it’s so amusing nonetheless.

  10. Alice says:

I’ve never been much of a fan of cartoons at all, classic or otherwise.

Well, that’s a lie. I used to like Looney Toons a lot, and Tom & Jerry, and I saw some Rocky and Bullwinkle once, which was good. But now that I’ve grown older, I find that these are all, though still funny, surreal and bizarre to the point of being frightening. The anthropomorphic animals are disturbing when they speak, and still more disturbing when they don’t speak. The human characters are little better. And the scenery (especially in the Roadrunner cartoons) is really scary for some undefinable reason.

I did like the Tom and Jerry episode about the duel, though. That was good.

8- The classic Tom and Jerry shorts are funny, but they’re also kind of repetitive, like the roadrunners. I’ve gotten more laughs from the other MGM shorts, which nobody seems to remember.

9, 9.2- That’s a common misconception. Looney Tunes were made for adults, not kids. People automatically attribute anything cartoon-y looking to children. Heh, if you think the LTs are bad, you should see the “private snafu” shorts they made for the military during WWII. :)

10- What’s so disturbing about talking animals?

4- Rocky and Bullwinkle, good times. I still want to go to Wassamatta U. when I grow up.

The only cartoon I really used to watch (besides Disney classics) was Popeye the Sailor Man, which I did sparingly because I hated, and still do hate, spinach and strange men with pipes and unnaturally large arms. But that may be just me.

14.1, 15.1- Both are amazing. I haven’t seen the Phantom Tollbooth yet, though.

19- You mean the comic from mad magazine?

Who do you like better? The greedy, selfish Daffy Duck of the 50’s, or the wild and crazy Daffy of the 30’s and 40’s? (I pick crazy Daffy :) ).

Would Disney count as classic animation? I am a great endorser of all things Disney, pre-21st century.

I can’t say I ever watched too many cartoons outside of those movies though. Never really got into any of that cartoon-network stuff, no particular reason, though Tom & Jerry is fantastic. (This judgment is made partially because we owned their movie- Did they have more than one?

*Googles* Tom and Jerry: The Movie- 1992. Wish we had it back, I’d like to re-watch it for the nostalgia points.)

But yeah, even that proves the fact that I was more of a VHS Disney movie kid than a tune-in-saturday-mornings TV kid. Huh. *Nostalgia wave*

I suppose Myazaki (sp?) isn’t exactly classic animation…although he is my favorite. Also Salad Fingers, even though I get nightmares every time I watch an episode…:P

I seem to remember another Bugs Bunny opera one with Marriage of Figaro…I think that’s my favorite one, actually, not the other, now that I think about it.

25- That was a masterpiece of animation.

27- Cool. Are they Looney Tunes?

I’m rather shocked that nobody on MuseBlog knows of any other Looney Tunes shorts than those of Chuck Jones. Not that they aren’t good, but there’s other very good classics out there that you have forgotten. Clampett definitely pwned Chuck in the 1940s.

I’ve always loved the Fantasia movies, especially the first. I played one of the songs it features for my flute solo one year, it was always enjoyable to have the video running through my head as I practiced (the one with the water lilies, where at the end fall over a waterfall)
