  8. YAY GAPA THANK YOU!

Let me first say that WordPress ( which powers Museblog) doesn’y allow a whole lot of HTML, unlike other bloggin sites like LiveJournal.

    Anyway. The basics.

    What does HTML mean?
HTML stands for hyper text mark up language. Any coding used for anything on the internet is usually referred to as a language.

There are other languages? O.O Like what?
CSS is widely used. Other popular languages are: Java, Javascript, PHP, XHTML, and the like. There are also more advanced languges like Perl, but I don’t know much about that so, feh.

Yeah, whatever, how do we make things bold, and stuff?

All tags begin with a “” and end with a “”. Within that space we can place various things, wioth various commands.

For instance, if I were to place any of the following letters: i, b,u,s ; I would get somthing like this.

    This is italicized text
    This is bold text.
    This is underlined text
    This strikethrough text

Those are the simplest of tags for HTML.
“Green” is actually the tag for a link. The “a” is from the a href= tag. An example of this would be

    Museblog!

This is a clickable link. It was done in this fashion ( replace [ with when typing on your own. )

    [a href=”https://musefanpage.com/blog/”] Museblog! [/a]

  12. Okay, as Axa has covered the HTML, I will teach you all the basics of stickermaking. Let’s begin at the beginning.

    What is a sticker?
A sticker is a little picture that had sticky glue-stuff on the back that causes it to stick to things.

    How do I make them?
You just print out a pretty little picture and run it through your sticker machine. If you don’t have a machine, tough luck. Here’s a little recipe that works almost as well:

You need: 4 tbs hot water
    2 tbs flavored gelatin powder

Pour the gelatin into a small glass bowl, add water and stir until blended.
Brush the mixture onto the back of your sticker.
Allow to set for 30-45 minutes or until dry.
When you’re ready, wet the back and stick it!

    Okay, there you go!

Where do I get the pictures?
First, go to https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=227, the Boosting Muse thread, and copy the hpb pictures that Bobby was so nice to post for us. Use them. And, find some images online of Kokopelli. It shouldn’t be hard. Collect other Muse-related pictures, such as the Muses, pie, and the Muse logo.

What should I do with the images?
Leave the hpb ones as they are. With the Kokopelli picture, paste him into a writing document on your computer. Type Kokopelli 4 Prezzy! or Vote For Koko! underneath in a Muse-ish font. Make up some things to write with the others. If you find a picture of Pwt, make a Pwt Pwns sticker with her/him on it. If you don’t have a pic of Pwt, just do the words.
For stickers without images, just type in a text box. MUSE and MOSTLY HARMLESS are good ideas.

How did some Musers get hpb stickers?
They wrote in to Muse at:
    Muse Magazine
    Attention: Samantha Sordyl
    140 S. Dearborn Street, Suite 1450
    Chicago, IL 60603
Send a self-addressed and stamped envelope, and you’ll get some stickers!

That should be all. If you have any questions, raise your hand.

You can’t truly learn HTML in a matter of hours- it take a lot of trial and error. I have two sites I maintain ( one of which I’m updating now, actually) and let me tell you, both took a long time to get it right.

If you have any specific questions, I’ll try and answer them. A good place to start tho’ is the website “Lissa Explains it all” which is a HTML help site just for kids. Kinda sappy, but she has good help there.

  24. The definition of RSS is:
RSS – (Rich Site Summary or RDF [Resource Description Framework] Site Summary). An XML format for sharing content among different Web sites such as news items. How does it work? A Web site can allow other sites to publish some of its content by creating an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A web publisher can post a link to the rss feed so users can read the distributed content on his/her site. Syndicated contentcan can include news feeds, listings of events, stories, headlines, etc.

Anyway, CSS is better than normal HTML, if you ask me. It simpler and easier to do. Instead of going through and writing

    body
    { background: #567D97;

    background-position: top center;

What you end up doing (trust me, I do it for a living) is writing as much CSS as you think you can get away with, and then shoving in bits of supposedly obsolete HTML which are “deprecated” (i.e. frowned on), but at least they do what they’re supposed to. Then you check it in as many browsers as you can install on your machine without it falling over, and hope that no-one’s still running IE5.6 on a mac, because the whole thing will turn purple or explode.

  79. Hi, Tyler L.,
    Welcome to MuseBlog. Have fun!

    Here’s an HTML hint: Use the arrow brackets (the kind that look like “greater than” and “less than” signs) instead of these { }

  80. I’ve been having fun messing with colors. Whee! Anyhoo. Does anybody *coughaxacough* know WHY it makes a certain color? I mean i understand why 000000 would be black (sort of) but why is white F? Why do Cs add yellow? Why is looking these up all the time annoying? (Sheer laziness probably. Anyway.) And last, but certainly not least-Why do i care?

  81. I looked it up for you Ebeth. :D As follows.

TML Color codes are composed of six hex numbers that represent a possible 16.7 million color combinations. The hex color codes are built on the RGB color model. (R stands for red, G for green, and B for blue). With your typical html code that looks like this: #FFFFFF it breaks down as follows. The first two hex digits #FFFFFF represent ‘red’. The second set of two hex digits #FFFFFF represent the color green. The third and final set of two hex digits #FFFFFF represent the color blue.

Quoted, with changes for easier understanding.

It’s a command, basically. Everything is code on a computer, and on the web. Everything.

  82. Hmm. Interesting. So if i had the same letters but in a different order would that change the color?

Hokey smoke Bullwinkle! 16.7 million?!?!?! Wow. *chuckles evilly* The ultimate procrastination device. Mwahaha.

  83. I believe there is an alternate color system that you can use, the CMYK system (cyan magenta yellow black). I think it’s more often used in priniting, but I’ve heard of it being used in html.

  84. Hmm, I’d say you probably can, but it’s not accepted as the norm, i.e. if you were to want to have a valid HTML document, you would have to use the Hex codes.

  90. the funny thing about html, is that you can type as many of these >>>>>>>>> as you want without getting your text eaten, but you can’t do the other ones facing the other way without your text being eaten. angle brackets facing the opposite of this one: > mean “start eating text” and these: > mean “stop eating text”

  96. In my opinion I don’t think myspace is very good.
I know it is probaby a good way to express yourself but then, why not just make your own website?

Don’t you just say My space? Instead of My myspace? Istnt that a little Odd?

  97. (232) No. Microsoft Frontpage is a HTML editor that comes with the whole Microsoft Office bit; I use plian Notpad and do my stuff by hand, really.

    (243) To make italics, do the following, without spaces.

    < i > -your text here- < /i >

The same goes for strikeout; use either a “s” or the word “strike” where the “i” is. It depends on the site, really.

    (244) I agree. Puberty on the internet=no. Not fun to watch. Thus, I rep LiveJournal. :D

Did I make my speech on hotlinking yet? Oh well, I’ll say it again.

    -deep breath-
Hotlinking (also known as direct linking) is bad. But what is it? When you copy an image and paste it into another window ( an example, using it for a signature, etc) you are hotlinking. It’s bad because it takes bandwith from the site you copy it off of. Every time you the picture loads, it’s loading from server of the website you took it from . This is illegal, as you are literally stealing from the site. Webpages have a certain amount of bandwith alloted to them, and hotlinking steals that bandwith, and in turn, money and/or service from the webmaster.

People pay for their websites. So don’t be a jerk, upload to your own server. Like Photobucket.

This is not directed at anyone, I’m just saying so none of you make the mistake and incur the wrath of the internet. ROLFCOPTERS!!1!!!one

  99. Firefox rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone besides me figure out that the admins could just delete the HTML they don’t want us to use on this webpage from our posts? So they wouldn’t have to mess with any automatic software, since our posts already have to be approved by them in the first place. Anything unfamiliar to they that looks like HTML they just highlight and delete.

  100. 247 – I can’t show you on the blog, because it strips most HTML tags, as The Bev says. But have a look at this page, if the GAPAs will let it through –

    http://www.chami.com/html-kit/minit/pages/imgtag1.html

If you want to play around with lots of HTML, download HTML-kit from the same site. It’s like Notepad with added helpful bits. I use it for most of my coding now.
