Guys, we are supposed to be remembering the millions that lost their lives through the insanity and idiosyncracy of an evil dictator. I’d like you all to take a moment and bow your heads in remembrance of those poor Jews.

Did you know that the band ‘Joy Division’ takes their name from brothels inside concentration camps? It made a lot of people very angry for the reason Purple Panda described.
There are plenty of interesting stories involving the Holocaust. Like coming downstairs in the morning and finding parents’ beds empty, or the one man who was shut up in the attic of a house with a tin roof and had to remain perfectly quiet and perfectly still or risk being discovered by the Nazis. For two years. When it rained, however, the tin roof made so much noise that he could yell, jump, scream, and do whatever he wanted.
Yes, it was sad that the Jews died. It was even more sad that Gypsies, homosexuals, and stutterers died as well. But at least the UN pushed the Palestinians out of Israel in favor of the Jews, so they were somewhat compensated.
It’s atheist, not athiest. Spell it right, people. Atheists are equal; that’s why the ‘e’ comes first.

I don’t know much about the Holocaust, but I know it was bad, and people should remember it. Happy *sniff-sniff* Holocaust *sniff* Remembrance Day! *sniff-sniff*

Some wonder how this atrocity could have happened when the Nazis were sucha a small party; I would suggest reading “The Wave” but it really sin’t that good of the book ( I dislike the other themes besides the main one ). Even so, it shows how easy it is to ignore something, to go along with it, or to simply do nothing out of fear.
You have to think about it, so it will never happen again. There was no excuse then and there’s even less now.

Yom Hashoa was today. But because it’s a jewish holiday, it began last night at sundown.
12-somewhat compensated? what about the jews who didn’t want to go to israel? what about the netire families who were slaughtered? Even to an idealist, how does a land compare to your own child- dead at the hands of your torturers?
also, i have to note- that when one jew does something wrong- jews are considered bad people.
when one person from any minority does something does something wrong- its the entire race’s fault. but when one person from a majority does something wrong, s/he was just misguided.
I would also like to share the following quote by einstein (i’m not sure if i’m getting it exactly right- but you get the jist)
“If i succeed, France will claim that I am French and Germany will claim that I am German,
But if I fail, France will claim that i am German, and Germany will claim that I am a Jew.

Both my grandparents survived the Holocaust.
My grandfather, my Zeide, was in a Concentration camp. He told me that one day a horse died, and they gave it to the prisoners. Even though horse isn’t kosher, they all ate it. My Zeide said it tasted like a delicacy, because they were so hungry. He found out there was going to be a death march in his camp, and he managed to escape the day before. He lost his entire family. His parents, his siblings, his aunts and uncles, and most of his cousins. My Zeide managed to survive by hiding in a pit under a cow. It was miserable. The cow peed on him, and all the family that was hiding him could afford to give him was bread and water. But he managed to survive and come to America.
My grandmother, my Nana, is also a survivor. When the nazis invaded her town, the commander of the group lived in the front of her house, and her family had to move into the backrooms. The nazis shot her grandfather in his bed, and she had to clean up the blood.
Unfortunately, I am not completely clear on the details of this story, but I do know that the nazis would have killed my Nana if not for her brother. He built a bunker and hid his family in it. Later on, when the nazis came, he was going to go across the street and hide in a Christian’s house. He was shot as he was climbing over the fence. My grandmother and her parents survived.
It is impossible to understand the horrors of the Holocaust without having seen them first hand. Thank God we don’t know, then.
It’s hard to believe there are such monsters in the world.

I’m so angry at my school- they did nothing for Holocaust remeberance day.
It wasa such a horrible event.
18(EtA)- What do mean “let’s hope something like that never happens again”!
It is happening!! Right now!! In Darfur! 300,000 Darfurians (Darfur is a district of Sudan) have died and 330 more are killed every day. Genocide. And yet last year, the Michael Jackson case recieved 40 times the amount of press coverage as the Darfur. And what about Rwanda? That was 800,000 slaughtered people in 100 days (roughly on six people a minute 24/7 for 100 days). After the Jewish Holocaust people said “Never again” but is is happening again, right now. It shouldn’t be called Holocaust Rememberance day, it should be called Holocaust Awareness day.
Sorry. I don’t want to take away from the rememberance of the Holocaust.. those stories Jessie told we horrible, and it’s important to remember. But it angers me when people talk of genocide as though it’s a thing of the past.
300,000 innocent lives in Darfur. Taken away. 330 more everyday. That’s happening right now.

Yesterday morning I started thinking of the Holocaust and of Hitler and WWII without even knowing that it was Holocaust Remembrance Day. Now I know why it was called that. It was because someone important started thinking about it and said, “Hey, let’s make a Holocaust Remembrance Day and make it an intercontinental holiday.” So they did. (I don’t know if this is true or not, but I have a feeling that it is.)

Don’t forget, the US also put Japanese Americans in concentration camps, too. Not as horrible, but still has idiotic. They didn’t even arrest resident enemy aliens. Just rounded up the Japanese Americans, many of whom were born in the US, because they looked like the enemy.
Did you know that until the sixties the Roman Catholic Church had an official prayer for the “faithless Jews”? A Good Friday prayer, too.

What am I supposed to say on a thread like this? “Yeah that was awful, i’ll remember it.”? Nothing against Holocaust Rememberance Day, there’s just not a lot to say about it. On the topic of a more modern form of hideousness: Is anyone participating in that ‘Invisible Children’ thing? You sleep on the streets of whatever city you live in/near to raise awareness of the goings on in Uganda with the revolution and all.

We didn’t sleep on the streets, instead we walked the 11 km (I think it was 11 km any way) that the children have to walk every day and night to get to safety. We had people sponsor us for each km we walked and then gave the money to an aid group that helps the people out in Uganda.

Otzi (52),
If it makes you feel any better, you could have died in the massacre of the Huguenots, the French Revolution, or any number of European wars. In World War 2 alone the siege of Leningrad, the London Blitz, and the fire-bombing of Dresden all killed a lot of civilians who looked like you. Nobody has to feel totally left out, or safe.

Hitler preached about the Aryan race, but he was a brunnette.(does that word apply to guys?).
49- Hitler would have loved to kill just about everyone.
the thing is, in alot of things in which persecution was involved, I would not have been killed. I am a white, anglo-saxon, English-french blonde protestant.
However, my ancestors were abolitionists all the way. In fact, thier portrait was vandalized because of it.
are you blue eyed too?
i’m blue eyed, but brown haired.
Otzi (52),
If it makes you feel any better, you could have died in the massacre of the Huguenots, the French Revolution, or any number of European wars. In World War 2 alone the siege of Leningrad, the London Blitz, and the fire-bombing of Dresden all killed a lot of civilians who looked like you. Nobody has to feel totally left out, or safe.
56- or else he cpould ahve died when people retaliated or tryed to stop the persecution.
I have blue eyes…………..but I would still be dead………….burned up……………….I’m so depressed.
I have had a incident when someone was racist. They told the pizza joke. You know the one.
