Forty years ago this month, Apollo 11 astronauts landed on Earth’s moon. In commemoration of the historic anniversary, MuseBlog dedicates the July random threads to moons and moonlets everywhere. After all, the word “month” comes from “moon.” What could be more apt?
How’s it going, Charon? Nyx? Trinculo? Callirrhoë?
(Users’ Manual: Obey The Rules. Consult The Guide. Have fun!)

Isn’t Charon a Dwarf Planet? *Still confused after the pluto problem*
First post on a random thread! YES!
In other news, I hate dentists.
I don’t hate all dentists, but I do hate ones that don’t tell you what thery’re going to do.
My dad’s a dentist, so here’s my thing with them: I don’t mind my dad poking around in my mouth, because I’ve known him for 14 years. I do mind other people poking around in there, because I’m certain that they’re going to slip in my mouth with some razor-sharp tool that leaves me scarred for the rest of my life. Actually, the tool-slipping happened mostly at the orthodontist, but still, it hurts. What do people think of the dentist or hygienist talking to you while they are working on your mouth? It has a somewhat soothing affect on me.
Hate when they talk to me, because they expect me to respond while they’re doing crap in my mouth. I’d prefer to just zone out.
Although my dentist does spend time telling me his conspiracy theories which is amusing. Beware the aliens that come to take your wisdom teeth to make clones!
BOTH of my parents are dentists.
I use to LOVE the dentist, back when I was little. I could never understand why people didn’t like them. But then, when I turned about, oh, seven or eight maybe, all of a sudden I hated them. No longer did I get any “cool” prizes (really cheap-o rings and stickers…amazing, in the eyes of a little kid…) No more cute little toothbrushes or flavored fluoride. No one telling me I had such perfect little teeth or giving me a “special” chart to keep track of the ones I had lost. Now, I just find the fluoride disgusting (all of the flavors are) and the way they poke around in your mouth…gross. Also, they always tell you that it’ll be “fine” which translates into: it’ll make you gag, choke, and bleed, but other than that, you’ll be fine. Ugh.
No, only Pluto, Eris, and Ceres.
SFTDP Charon is Pluto’s moon.
One of Pluto’s three moons, we know now.
1.1- I have nothing against dentists in general, I just hate their work. Which is nonetheless very useful in keeping our teeth from rotting and falling out of our heads.
-siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh- I’m burning through Doctor Who at a prodigious rate. I haven’t the will power to watch a single episode a week or something silly like that. When you dream about it, what are you supposed to do?* At any rate, I’m going to finish season four, and it’ll be OK, because I’ll just turn around and start at the beginning, back in the 60s, but voices from that era bug me. A lot. Everyone sounds the same! And I’m going to be sad about David Tennant not being the Doctor anymore. I’ll get over it, though. I hope iTunes will have season five once it starts.
Anyway. Meow’s coming tomorrow, and I’m super excited!
*Answer: get so involved in another story that you dream about it instead. If you’re lucky. If not, you dream about them both, which is usually what happens to me. So I wake up in the morning and have to sort out what belonged to the Doctor Who episode I watched, what belonged to my book, what belonged to real life, and what belonged to my dream. It’s not pleasant. On those days, I walk through my day expecting to find a blue police box on the corner inhabited by the Tenth Doctor, Hornblower, and my parents.
In response to Cerulean Pyros on the other thread—
Yes indeed I do! Mostly I do shelving, which other people find boring but I find quite enjoyable. It’s actually good thinking time for me. I’ve always found libraries soothing (not an uncommon sentiment around here, I suspect) so it all works out very nicely.
On the off chance Fiddler logs on before she leaves— Have a nice trip! We’ll miss you! Don’t forget to write!
This happened today:
Mrs Chocolate: What’s that? *sees me drawing pink thing*
Me: It’s a hot pink bunny I’m making for Sorreltail. To put in her diary.
Mrs Chocolate: *does NOT give me a funny look* *nice comment about Sorreltail* She’s in my maths class.
That teacher is definitely crazy (in a good hands-out-chocolate way). Come to think of it, so is ‘Mrs Book’ (a librarian), our usual teacher for that class. If Mrs Joe had seen that… *shudder*
Random…
Yesterday I went to this climbing park thing. Basically platforms on trees connected by wires, with a few ropes and other stuff to climb on between them. I can’t believe how many kids in our class are afraid of heights. It’s funny, the way people go positively green if you just take them up a high tree (*is unafraid of heights*). Usually you have to elbow the jocks out of the way to get to anything fun which is sport related, but I had no trouble taking the lead. It was even offered to me. Ah well, if they want to miss out on the fun it’s their problem. I wish I could go back–the place pwned! Now I just want my arms to stop aching and my finger to uncurl and stay that way…
Only two more days ’till school’s over!
I’m not afraid of heights. I’m afraid of falling. People might say that this is the same thing- but, as evidence, I’m going to rock climbing camp next week. I did it last year, and I was perfectly fine at it until I got to the top and had to let go. (It was belaying).
Which reminds me, I’m going to be really busy next week, so I’ll probably not get any posting in.
Oh my gosh, that’s exactly how I feel about heights! *is a rock climber*
You didn’t tell me that’s where you were going next week… I’ll probably be climbing then too, but I think the wall is only open three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday?). Oh well, I can always just work out or something. I get in free to the ________ College gym, because my dad works at the College. Although Sudo already knew that.
You must feel the power of the carabiners, young padawns.
‘Course, I had an edge over everyone because I was used to such harnesses from onboard and trusted them. I wish I could go to rock-climbing camp… *envious sigh*
Yeah, I’ve been to one of those things. I would have been much better than everyone else… except for the fact that my stupid brain chose that day to give me a horrible cold, leaving my nose running like crazy, my limbs already aching even before I started, and my head feeling feverish and muggy…
HAPPY CANADA DAY! Birth of a nation. Everything’s closed today, which is abit odd: having a holiday in the middle of the week, but it is something to celebrate, you must admit.
Wanna hear something sad and kind of funny? if you put the word “Canada” in the Google search box, the third option down on that list of common searches is “Canada is on what continent?”. that’s just wierd. You know what’s worse? if you put in “who invented” one of the options it puts up is “who invented elecricity”
Discvovered, people! Who DISCOVERED electricity!! [/rant] [/ramble]
-Kaiser
“North America. Where ever you live, your Educational System has failed you!” says some person on Yahoo Answers. Yeah, well, wherever YOU live, your educational system has failed you too. Use proper grammar!
That yahoo person does have a point, though.
Agreed. Even if you weren’t taught which continent Canada is on, you should at least have enough brain to look it up on a map…if you even have access to one!!
Love the picture in the helmet, Lady B! Not sure what it is, yet, but it’s still really funny, the classic picture with something else added. When I first saw the title of this month, I thought it was lunacy as in crazy. Wait, they’re spelled the same… I think the GAPAs have way too much time on their hands. How long has it been since one of you realized that ‘lunacy’ could mean either ‘moon-ness’ or ‘craziness’?
1/1.2- SFTDP, but I’d like to point out that Pluto is a planet. Okay, so it’s not, officially, but the people that defined it ‘not a planet’ had really sketchy reasons. I think they were something like:
1. Has to have an atmosphere
2. Has to have enough gravity to pull itself into a ball.
3. Has to have ‘Cleared its neighborhood’.
They didn’t even define ‘cleared its neighborhood’ properly, although I think someone went through and redefined it as something about ‘having cleared 90% of its orbital path’*. So, wait. Shouldn’t a planet be a planet from the start? Is this saying that the Earth wasn’t always a planet? Does Earth even qualify as a planet, under those conditions?
In case you were wondering, yes, I am prejudiced, as my father was fairly important in the recently launched ‘New Horizons’ project, (Not saying exactly what, for privacy purposes) which is suddenly, rather than the first mission to Pluto, is suddenly the first mission to a dwarf planet. Which isn’t really that exciting, if you know what I mean. And, I’m not sure I believe that people should be able to just proclaim that things that were internationally accepted aren’t so anymore. Without even a fair vote! See, apparently the convention was held in Eastern Europe, or somewhere, where the feeling was generally Pro-dwarf planet, and people who weren’t at the convention weren’t allowed to vote, which I think isn’t normally the case. Anyway, all of this is secondhand, from my dad, his colleges, or my mom, so you might want to research this to back it up.
*I went on Wikipedia and pulled up this definition:
In the end stages of planet formation, a planet will have cleared the neighbourhood of its own orbital zone, meaning it has become gravitationally dominant, and there are no other bodies of comparable size other than its own satellites or those otherwise under its gravitational influence. The current definition of a planet adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) only includes those bodies which have “cleared the neighbourhood of its orbit.”
Pluto doesn’t care whether we call it a planet or not, and it’s of exactly the same scientific interest whether we call it a planet, a dwarf planet, or a humongous ice melon.
Personally, I like thinking of Pluto as the innermost representative of the swarm of similar objects (including some larger ones) that we call the Kuiper Belt. Other people prefer to think of it as a far-flung, lonely outsider with a weird, warped, tilted orbit. I suspect that people’s preferences for one definition or the other says more about human psychology than it does about planetary science. In the end, Pluto is Pluto.
Happy July! How did you get those faces in the helmet? Or did someone already ask that?
8- The helmet has a reflection of the Muses in it. So far I’ve identified Chad, Urania, Feather, possibly Mimi, and a large white giraffe chicken.
(8) We GAPAs have been moon loony for a long time, Errata.
(11) I guess you won’t believe me if I said it was from NASA’s secret files…actually, I drew some Muses, mirrored and distorted them to fit the curvature of the helmet; then I used several blending layers (as Photoshop calls them) to make the Muses mesh with the original reflection. A bit of additional touchup and voilà : Neil Armstrong’s welcoming committee.
(12) How did that giraffe chicken get in there?
It’s the one behind Feather and Urania, to the direct left of what I have tentatively identified as Mimi. It could easily be another Muse, but the distortion makes it hard to see the ones in back, especially if they’re at the edge.
HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR!!! Wow… that went fast!
I think from now on I will call Pluto a humongous ice melon, actually.
Woah, I just noticed there are Muses reflected in the astronaut’s helmet-thing. That’s flamablamablous!
OH. MY. GOD! I just put The Office Theme Song as my ringtone!
*is proud of oneself*
6- *belts out a rousing rendition of “Oh, Canada”*
7- Try typing “I am extremely” into Google and look at the suggestions it gives you. A couple of them stick out as… interesting.
15- I was thinking the same thing.
16- Quite observant, aren’t we?
OH MY GOD. I tried the “I am extremely” thing on google… That’s hilarious!
I tried the “I am extremely” thing, and one of the results was ” I am extremely terrified of Chinese people”
That was the first one. Another was “i am extremely afraid of Chinese people.”
Ahh, so many varieties…
I’m seriously going to Google that and see what comes up. *Googles*
Wow, scary.
Well Pluto has one fan over here, if nothing else
I suspect that people’s preferences for one definition or the other says more about human psychology than it does about planetary science.
Exactly!
Although it is impossible, I always thought it would be nice to float around on Pluto…well at least in the poetic sense, I suppose. I always liked the “gas giants”…they seemed so much more interesting than Venus or Mercury. I don’t like Jupiter for some reason though (isn’t that ridiculous, it’s a planet not a person)
The Solar System fascinates me, though I have no practical knowledge of it.
Also, this thread has inspired me to listen to Luna Sea again
Jupiter would seem rather full of itself, wouldn’t it? Saturn is friendly. It knows that it’s beautiful, but doesn’t seem to care.
Poor Pluto. Always the underdog. No pun intended.
13 – Oh, now I see. Cool!
14 – Today’s halfway through the year? I thought it was yesterday, because it was my sister’s birthday, and I thought she was born halfway through the year… it doesn’t matter much. I agree, it’s zipped by!
Happy Canada day!
12-I see the giraffe chicken too.
(20, et al.) I’ve added a link to the graphic so you can see a closeup of the face shield, both official and unauthorized versions.
The giraffe chicken is part of what was originally in the picture!
A MuseBlog discovery, it would seem. I certainly don’t remember any contemporary reports of a lunar giraffe chicken.
*laughs* omg! A lunar giraffe chicken?! Hahaha!
Please don’t say omg.
Oh, a little OMG here and there won’t hurt anyone. Even GAPAs have been known to indulge. Besides, it seemed appropriate to the occasion.
Sorry. I’m rather strict about grammar and spelling, as everyone on the Chatterbox knows.
We’re all for high standards of grammar and spelling, but you should be able to have some fun with language, too, especially when referring to lunar giraffe chickens. We’d be missing some wonderful literature if writers were too strict. There’s a difference, also, between occasional indulgences, for fun or irony, and chronic offenders.
The MuseBlog home page is……… messed up. It’s all weird. What’s going on?
SFTDP
It’s back to normal now. That was odd.
I do not see any sort of giraffe chicken. Are you referring to the flag?
Mall. Blueberry scented candles.
Good times.
I got a lot of neat things, but I spent every penny of my forty dollars.
Not sure how I feel about being oficially broke. I’m almost never COMPLETELY broke.
That, and my cell phone minutes have given out. I’m done. I have to call people after nine now and hang up at twelve. This kind of makes me sad.
I’m ALWAYS broke.
Me, too.
Great theme and picture! (Yeah, you knew I was going to say that, didn’t you?)
What I learned today: If you have to run barefoot on the road in a rainstorm, the double yellow lines are much smoother and easier on your feet than the surrounding pavement.
I was hoping you’d approve.
How could I not?
Where are the GAPAs?
Here we are in Erie (I can say that, right? Oh well, maybe I can’t…sorry GAPAs), though we got here too late to go through the museum and see the ship, but tomorrow…..I can’t wait. I need to though, and I should probably sleep while waiting, come to think of it. Before the computer freaks out on me again. *sigh*
But while in port and off duty it looks like I’ll be able to hop over o the library, so I’m looking forward to that.
Anyway, I love you all and I’m going to miss being able to blog
obsessivelyevery day.Alice Hullo everyone! We’re kokonvening!
Cat’s Meow In Oregon! (Hence the name)
Alice We went out to Bosnian food for dinner. And Meow’s brother is Cleverbot.
Cat’s Meow Seriously. He makes about as much sense.
Cat’s Meow’s Brother Yo dawg.
Alice We told him to be quiet so he mimed hitting me over the head with a rock.
Cat’s Meow It was bizarre. I can’t wait until he meets up with Opal. It’ll either be terrible or awesome, depending on whether or not they follow us around or leave us alone.
Alice I predict that they will follow us around but Opal will find Cleverbot just as annoying as we do.
Cat’s Meow I dunno. The mind of a younger sibling works in strange ways.
Meow (again) So, anyways, we can’t think of anything else to say. More tomorrow, probably, since I’m staying two nights in [insert Alice’s hometown].
Great to hear from you, Alice and Cat’s Meow! And
CleverbotCat’s Meow’s Brother, too. Looking forward to updates. What part of Oregon?
Cat’s Meow The cool part, ‘cuz we’re here.
Alice Stalker.
Cat’s Meow Ooooh…creepy.
Really. What part of Oregon? For instance, central, southeast, etc.
Northwest, if you must know.
But it’s over now.
I’m in Northeast Oregon.
Hello, everybody! It sounds as strange as I’d expect it to be. I hope you have loads of fun.
Good luck with Opal/CMB!
*Slaps Alice and Cat’s Meow* I want to go to Oregon! I usually get to go to oregon in Agust, but my grandparents (who live in OR) are moving to California, which rather hinders my passage to OR.
SFTDP, but I just read last month’s thread…
Cerulean Pyros (123)~ Thanks so much! I will try to restart the ships’ logs when I get back. *waves back* I wish you were the cook this time……I always salivate over your descriptions over the meals served on the SeaHawk!
Okay, now I’m going to go take a shower and sleep. See you next time, pies, peace, Hot Pink Bunnies, and everything else wonderful to you all.
♥ Fiddler
Have a great time, MF. I’ll be thinking of you out there. Let us know if you turn pirate!
“If”?
Well, howdy, guys! Not often the three Rs are on at the same time.
It’s like a solar eclipse!
*shields eyes just in case*
*peeks through fingers*
Woooo!
Bye, Fern! I look forward to hearing about your trip!
Hi Meow and Alice!!! (And siblings!) Thanks for stopping in.
Hi, GAPAs! Nice to see so many of you!
I love the thread title and the image! How cool is it that Muse and Muses were there to greet the astronauts?!
It looks like the Universe will be a snap for Mostly Harmless.
30 – sounds like you’re having a good time!
Um, I’ve been seeing it around the blog a lot… what does SFTDP mean?
Sorry For The Double Post.
35- Sorry For The Double Post.
Have fun, MF!
Wish I could be there to, Oregon Koconveners!
32-33 Wow. Five GAPA posts in a row. That doesn’t happen often either.
10- I guess it doesn’t really matter, but still, I think Pluto deserves to be a planet, since we considered it one for so long. Maybe that’s not very scientific, but it doesn’t matter.
*Whew* Lots of html there. Especially up at the top.
Alice Here we are! We went and found letterboxes and now we’re going kayaking.
Cat’s Meow Opal (Alice’s sister) and my brother have been competing to see who can be the most annoying. I think I’ll declare it a tie.
Opal I am more annoying….
Cat’s Meow’s Brother Hi. I am waaayyyy more annoying then her.
Cat’s Meow Yeah, they’ve been proving it to us, to our great dismay.
Still, it’s been awesome.
Hi, Oregon Kokonveners! Could it be that Koko is leading Opal and Cat’s Meow’s Brother to be especially dismaying?
Have a great kayak adventure
Did you know you can get sunburned on your feet if you go barefoot at the beach? Well, you can…
Yes. I have, actually. It’s REALLY painful because it rubs against your shoes and….well…ouch.
Hey! I’ve survived my first day, as you can see by my presence here.
(Sarcasm, in case you didn’t catch that. Just checking……)
I am, of course, at the library (where else?). Since there’s a swanky dinner going on on the ship at the moment, most of the crew, and obviously the dumb trainees that just signed on today (such as Yours Truly) aren’t allowed to go out there, and thus are hanging out elswhere. For me, the logical choice was to head to the library. Some went to a movie, some were talking of going to an amusement park, and I being an oddball found little interest in either. Not to mention that I’m still feeling a bit shy and so, instead of going and being social and making friends I choose to slink off to the library and hide around the computers. Sensible, logical child that I am……
Anyway, my Super Exciting Day included some general orientation and a good bit of briefing on safety stuff; PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices), exposure suits (goon clothing), alarms, importaint drills, etc. Then we got to go aloft to the fighting top, oh, fourty or so feet up (about halfway, ulp) which was thrilling. I actualy must brag here and say that I wasn’t completely terrified. I enjoyed it, and was plesantly surprised when I reached the futtock shrouds in less time and with less internal panicking than I thought there might be. I wasn’t even shaking. [/brag]
The rest of the crew seems pretty awesome in general, though I’m missing some of the banter with my ears all plugged up, dang snuffy nose! I’ve caught enough though….
It’s all good. It’s a lot more guys than girls, which is okay, I guess. Everyone seems pretty nice. Maybe I’ll regain proper use of my vocal chords again, the sooner the better. Curse being shy! Oh well, I’m sure it won’t be that long, I’m already able to not stutter on every word. *sigh*
Tonight: learning to sleep in a hammock. Not exactly looing forward to it. I’m tired now though, so hopefully by the tie the dinner is over I’ll be so whipped that I can sleep through anything. That’s the hope at least.
Anyway, this post is getting long and my fingers are getting tired. I’ll go check out some other threads while I rest, ha!
Oh, RE: pirates: If I become one? Sorry, that’s in the past tense, became. Ages ago, back when I was around nine and figured that the easiest way to get my own ship was to be a pirate, since they’re always shown with one in the storybooks, right? Yeah, well I hadn’t yet read the ones where they’re pictured other places, but we won’t go there…..
I’ve used the lol smily a lot. Too much, probably. *pays fine iin advance*
How did you get to do this?! This sounds like my dream summer, right there.
Okay, well I’d better hop off. I’d love to stay, but my bladder is winning against y miserly ways of not wanting to log off before my time runs out. *sigh*
See you all later, hugs!
See you later, MF! It’s always great to hear from you.
Slinking off to the library sounds perfectly sensible and logical to me — but then, you know, we’re all Musers here.
DANG IT. I JUST MISSED 42ND POST AGAIN!!!!!!!! *is mad at himself*
It’s the holidays. Yay!!!
43-
School is finally over!!!
I got my report card and managed to escape without broken ribs. Six kids are switching schools, including the two most popular girls, which means that everyone made a big fuss and started hugging anyone who wouldn’t be there next year (including me). U. actually put together a yearbook for the twins (who are both leaving), and they also brought jeans to sign.
I’m leaving for Holland on saturday; I’m probably coming back sometime in the beginning of September…
I survived my first full year of in-class school since 4th grade
!
40 – Going to the library sounds fun. I love any place that has at least a hundred books inside.
45- We overlap by less than a day. I go back to CT on Sunday. I’m bored. There are no books to read. I’ve read all of the ones I’ve brought at least twice.
I used to memorize books I brought on board out of sheer boredom. And I started reading french books-once the story stopped being different every time I read it, I felt quite proud of myself. I knew that Eragon didn’t involve stampeding tomatoes, but it was kinda fun…
Surely there must be something to do in Holland other than blog and read books. How about trying to taste every kind of Dutch chocolate? (It’s excellent.) Or teaching yourself Dutch? You never know when another language might come in handy. It’s close enough to English for you to make quite a bit of progress in a weekend. bookgirl_me may have other ideas.
Or just going to the coffeeshops and breathing it all in…
That’s not coffeeshops you’re thinking of.
XD
The coffeeshops work too. That’s what’s lovely about Holland. Especially since nicoteen is illegal.
On the “coming soon” thingy up near the top of the page, are their colors in parenthesis after the names of people having birthdays? For example Kokonilly’s birthday (1996 – light blue/lime green). What in the world is that?
– Kaiser, confused
Some MBers post their favorite colors with their birthdays so their friends here can wear them to celebrate.
My Colors are anything from electric blue to dark baby blue.
U2 called the International Space Station! In the middle of a concert in Barcelona with 20,000 fans watching! (Outdoors, of course. No room could contain that level of awesomeness.)
Whoa! That’s really cool!
Today is the middle of the year!
testing if my gravatar works, sorry for this popo…
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY GRAVATAR WAS A TANGERINE I WILL STEP IN THE PATH OF AN HPB IF THIS DOESN’T WORK I WILL ATTEMPT TO PET THE NARWHAL OF DOOOOOM!
The narwhal of doom………. Interesting.
Charlie the Unicorn III. Takes place underwater. There is a “Narwhal of Doom” and an “OhMyGodItsAWhale”. And a creepy singinng Goat-Dolphin thing. It is the least funny video of the three.
Your gravatar is a tangerine.
Refresh your browser. If that doesn’t work, restart your browser. If that doesn’t work, clear your browser’s cache. Bunnies and narwhals are not recommended.
Purposly change your email adress.
51 – really? I thought it was June 30; my sister’s birthday. And then I saw it was July 1… but I guess it doesn’t really matter.
I just saw a Russian tallship! Hmm, I guess I can’t really have it as my avatar because POSOC and Fiddler have them. Oh well.
*sigh* Gosh, I’d forgotten how slow the blog can be in the summer…you would think it would be faster, wouldn’t you?
When it’s fast, we get complaints from people who can’t keep up.
True. But I like it fastish.
Me too. I get impatient when it’s slow.
Remember the friend of mine who had a bike accident last month? He’s currently in a rehab center in Atlanta and doing well. He’s in therapy there, and has begun speaking again! His parents blog updates every day or two; long story short, he’s doing really well, and is on the road to recovery.
I thought you all might want to know.
Glad to hear it, Tesseract.
That’s wonderful news. We know how worried you’ve been.
I’m really relieved. Every time he hits another milestone, I’m happy for the rest of the day.
Does anybody else remember Eyewitness Video? The trippy museum with all-white walls covered in pictures and movie screens that were different every time? The live animals wandering the halls? The awesome theme song? (Da da dada da, da da dada da, da dada da da da DA DA da da…)
Oh yeah! We watched those in sixth grade, I think.
Random happiness- WOOT. I just reached #100 on the “Who’s Posted How Much” list. *is smug* Should I be happy?
Of course you should be happy!
I’ve returned.
Music camp was incredibly amazing. I love it every year. I wish I could go back now.
47.2- I do ride bikes and take walks and go to places with my family. And I don’t like chocolate, so tasting chocolate is out.
60- Yes, I do.
58 – Gee, this is the fastest moderated site I’m on. I can’t believe how fast the moderation is. It’s great.
59 – I probably wasn’t around when you told me about that, but I’m glad he’s doing well.
In response to no one – Happy Fourth of July!
This is the only site I’m on where posts are checked BEFORE being published.
As my old Russian landlady used to say, “May that be the worst thing that ever happens to you.”
I’m not complaining
Happy Fourth to you too!
Sigh. Back to dial-up tomorrow.
Yay! I’m back from camp. It was fun but it rained every day except Friday.
Aww, that’s too bad.
64. 1 – I guess because you’re older, you don’t need everything to be moderated. I’m on three sites, including the MuseBlog and the Chatterbox, and they’re all moderated.
Wow. My entire family managed to entirely space and forget that it’s the fourth. (My sister says she didn’t, but also didn’t say anything about it. I say that doesn’t count.) Kinda depressing when you have to go online to realize it’s a holiday. If that makes sense. My sister (who is reading over my shoulder) says we’re going to my grandparent’s house to celebrate, so we didn’t completely forget, but I had forgotten why we were going. Why isn’t there a ‘spacing’ smiley? I think there should be. Something about the smiley staring off into space and drooling. With its mouth open. Wait, I’m rambling, so I’ll stop.
60- yes. I believe there was one with dinosaurs and gumby. Unless I’m crazy and it was something else. But I do remember those videos very faintly.
Does “Lunatic” have anything to do with moons?
“Luna” is Latin for “moon,” and people have long blamed the full moon for outbreaks of lunacy, hence the association. Statistical studies have not supported this, however.
Thanks!
Prior to science, people thought that insanity was caused by the moon’s pull. As if the mind were subject to tides.
Place the moon at his eyes and her whiteness shall devour the false sights the deceiver has placed there.
Place a swarm of bees at his ears. Bees love truth and will destroy the deceiver’s lies.
Place salt in his mouth lest the deceiver attempt to delight him with the taste of honey or disgust him with the taste of ashes.
Nail his hand with an iron nail so that he shall not raise it to do the deceiver’s bidding.
Place his heart in a secret place so that all his desires shall be his own and the deceiver shall find no hold there.
Memorandum. The colour red may be found beneficial.
That’s all I think of when I connect lunatic to moon, though I’m perfectly aware of the normal connection.
60- I do! There was a plane hanging from the ceiling!
Oh yeah! I remember that too!
Boy, it’s slow today…
It is, isn’t it… *sigh* I’m not even supposed to be on right now. Oh well.
I’ve also noticed…
Happy American Fireworks Day, everyone!
No, happy revolution day, colonials!
Happy Fourth of July!
So I went to the parade, and then got to run with my friend Hannah, which was good.
Tesseract, I know this is strange, but last night I dreamed that you were famous and related to my friend’s cousin. I don’t understand it either.
Cool. Do you remember what I was famous for?
I’ve definitely had multiple dreams about Kokonventions and MBers.
Me, too. I had one last night involving a play and Fishy… no, it wasn’t the RPG, it was actually Fishy and not his character. But I don’t remember what he looked like. I never remember what MBers in my dreams look like.
That’s interesting, because Fishy was in a school play earlier this year… -eerie-
‘Tis indeed. I wonder if I have a psychic connection to him or something…
Sadly, I haven’t had any MB dreams… yet!
75.1.1.1- And don’t you dare post/email pictures! I was the bully, which was strange because I am neither tough, nor mean. Well, the second one is up to you.
Happy Independence Day!!!
Yes, we heard fireworks going off here. Oh, has anyone else stopped by the Google Home Page today? They often have a special “Google” logo for important holidays, and for the 4th of July they chose an image including a flag, a grill, a picnic basket and blanket, and… on the blanket… a PIE!!!!!!
Perhaps not totally extraordinary, but worthy of note, at least!
Yes, I did see that. Very nice.
Happy 4th of July, everybody! *looks around* What, no 4th of July thread? *pouts*
Anybody ever been to a fireworks show where every time a wave starts, a third of the cars start firing off honk-wars? I HATE that.
That’s a bit strange… In my town, we don’t have fireworks on the fourth, only in September.
75 – I’ve had dreams about people I know online too! Once I dreamed that TNÖ had morphed into a character from one of my novels and we were carrying her around on a chair.
76 – I saw that on Google! Cool, isn’t it? I like little logos like that.
Nationalism and patriotism are evil. Besides, July 4th was on a Saturday. I’m sure it has to happen sometime, but I wish it could be worked out.
I’m curious–how do you work that one out?
Please, guys, let’s keep this one from turning into a flame war. Please.
You don’t, I guess.
No, I mean, why do you say that?
Did anyone see the Macy’s fireworks? I could’ve went on my dad’s speed-boat, but it was crowded, the ride to the city is long, and the waves in the city can be huge, especially on July 4th…
I saw the end on TV, since our town was too cheap to have their own (even though they said they were going to have them).
How far are you from the city? I’m really far, like four or five hours. What part of New York do you live in?
[/stalking]
I’m about an hour away… My county doesn’t have enough residents for me to tell you which one…
Mine probably doesn’t either. Oh, well. Maybe we could Kokonvene sometime? Or you could come to the one in NYC this August, there’s only one other person so far…
I saw the fireworks from the airplane.
They looked really low, but I suppose if they were any higher we wouldn’t be able to see them.
From an airplane? That’s pretty cool. Last night, when we were watching the fireworks, we saw an airplane that literally looked like it was right in the middle of the fireworks. And it just sat there for about three minutes, and we kept thinking how dangerous that probably was. But then again, I think it was an illusion-the airplane probably wasn’t as close to the fireworks as it looked like.
It’s not. It’s waaaay above the fireworks.
They were really great, although our building’s roof doesn’t really have the best view.
Hello again, everybody!
I got back from Vancouver very late last night. However, I was two hours off, so I stayed up until 2 AM belatedly replying to ‘happy birthday’ messages on Facebook.
We went to Stanley Park, Capilano Bridge, Whistler, Queen Elizabeth Park, Granville Island, and downtown Vancouver.
Whistler is really pretty and scenic. It’s also where the 2010 Winter Olympics are, so I got a souvenir from The Olympic Store.
So, I’m way too lazy right now to summarize all of it. I must get back to my RPGs! *scurries off*
Cool. I’m psyched for the Vancouver Olympics already! *Is an Olympic Geek*
Hullo. I am at a sleepaway camp for the “musically gifted”. (No lie.) Right now I am in the computer lab, pretending to be emailing my mum. It is very fun here. There are a lot of hippie remnants. (Opal’s saying, not mine.)
Also, there is a really irritating glitch in the gravatar world. It won’t let me copy a link to get an image for my gravatar.
I watched the fireworks at my house
You live in NYC!!!?
In MN in a city that I can’t tell you.
OOoohh more Minnesota people! that brings my tally up to ….6! *desperately wants kokonventon*
Oh my god, SUN!!!! It’s FINALLLLLLLLYYYY sunny!!! I swear, it’s been raining for 3 weeks straight with maybe three days of some sun in those 3 weeks.
SFTDP, but I”M SOOO EXCITED!!! I made Algebra 1 for eith grade math!! And only 20%-25% of the grade gets to do it! And this means that I can maybe take Advanced Geometry in my freshman year if I do really well. *is a math geek*
That’s great! I took Algebra 1 in 7th grade. It’s not that bad. I did Advanced Geometry this year, and are you sure you want to do it? Because I totally hated the proofs and stuff…
Yeah, I’m even more of a math geek.
Oh, by the way, I’m taking Algebra 2 and Trig next year. AKA I’m going to die next year.
And then there’s Precalc… *dies*
I hated Algebra. Geometry is way easier. I mean, all you have to do is prove things. Really not that hard.
Precalculus killed me. Seriously… have fun!
I’m taking AP Calc BC next year.
I’m with RoseQuartz on this one. Algebra was always way easier for me than Geometry. I’d take equations over formulas any day.
Oh, definitely. Algebra is way better than Geometry.
Ditto.
I’m taking AP Calc AB the year after next, I think, unless I flunk Pcalc.
I nearly did, but I got a B+ in the end.
I’ll be in Precal (the different abbreviations are interesting) next year, and the year after that AP Calc. Probably BC, but I haven’t decided yet.
I’m with Kokonilly! Geometry is much easier.
You have to help me with Trig/Precalc, okay, Kokonilly?
-A
I did Algebra 1 this year (7th grade). I got a C- grade and a 58% on the final test, so now I have to go to summer school. At the end of the course I get to take the test again, and if I pass it I can go to Geometry. If I fail it again, I have to repeat algebra. I’m not sure which is worse.
I think Mr. Joe invented algebra. No, Mr. Joe invented math, period.
As I don’t live in America, I have no idea what things like precalculus and all that are meant to be (do I want to?) but I like math. Especially algebra. One problem with being good at it: Next semester –oh my bun-buns, thats next WEEK!– I will be in Mr Algebra’s maths class and not Mr Blank’s. I have the horrible suspicion that Leopardstar is in that class, and none of my friends are.
*rambles some more*
84, 85-Double yays for you! Congratulations on getting into Algebra 1, although I’m assuming it’s for eighth grade math, not eith. (Ha ha, just kidding…sorry, I enjoy making fun of people’s spelling mistakes…)
I really must stop forgetting entirely about Museblog. Shocking, I know. But it happens.
-A
It just shows that you have a real life, and that’s good, no?
But I love you all so much! I should at least remember and feel guilty about not posting, rather than just not remembering at all.
-A
You mean an additional real life.
I hate to break it to you, Rebecca, but Museblog… Well, remember the Matrix? It’s sort of like that. A simulated real life. A crack team of expert Musebloggers went on a mission into the real world and conducted some experiments… They came up positive. I’m so sorry.
Choose the blue pill! The BLUE pill!
-A
I reject any movie-verse interpretation of reality that degenerates into silliness after the first movie in the series.
And I reject your reality and substitute it with my own.
But in all seriousness… Why don’t people like the other Matrices? I loved the second, if just for the car chase. That was sort of epic.
Sure, the first was philosophical and all, and had great Allegory of the Cave references, but that’s no reason not to love the others too!
-A
The first one, while being a revolution in the special effects world, was killed by horrible dialogue (“You are the one” “Am not” “Are too” “Am not” “Are too” “Am too, you’re right”) and a plot that went something like this.
“I’m Neo. I do these things and have to learn how to do these other things”
“I’m Morpheus. I do these things and have to do these other things”
“We’re Neo and Morpheus. We have 20 minutes left in the movie to do something”
The second ones were just milking the cash cow. The “other minds” philosophy problem isn’t even new.
Well aren’t we pessimistic! I don’t know about what anybody else thinks, but I just enjoyed them without looking too far into things.
Do you enjoy English class?
-A
I’m not being pessimistic, I’m being critical, and rightly so. The acting is wooden, the plot is cheap, and the dialogue is moronic. And you have to “look too far into things” with the Matrix, the movie oozes pretentiousness from every orifice. It aspires to being some deep, philosophical treatise, when in fact it’s just Dan Dennett for braindead moviegoers.
And yes, I do enjoy English class. My rhetoric skills, insightful critique and the ability to plain bluff my way through any sort of analysis makes it an easy A.
Figured.
-A
Pray tell why you made that assumption?
Your analysation. It reeks of English class.
-A
I still hold that Pluto is now and forever will be a planet. You can’t just change something like that.
-A
Of course Pluto is a planet. Astronomers are just stupid.
Yeah!
As far as I may stray into the world of normality, I always will return to good old MB.
In other words, I got a new Muse for the first time in what seems like forever. Which reminded me that I’m not normal, and so here I am!
Oh, by the way, I am proud to be a lunatic.
88- In my opinion, planets are just rocks in space. Pluto is a rock in space, henceforth it is a planet.
Not to mention gas planets. No rocks there.
A Asteroid is a planet?!
I guess you’re right… Big rocks, maybe? No, there are big asteroids… *sigh* Science can be annoying.
Big, circular rocks?
Big, circular asteroids orbiting some celestal body?
Sorry for the odd graavatar
My, that’s certainly an… interesting avatar….
However, you don’t need to apologize for it, Catkopelli. ‘Twasn’t your fault.
I think big, circular rocks in space orbiting a star is the best we’re going to get.
That clear out their orbits.
No. That’s currently the technical definition. I hold that a planet is anything considered a planet before 1990. It’s about as scientific as the technical definition.
I wrote as my Facebook status, “It’s okay, Pluto, I’m not a planet either…”
Pluto is, I think, a minor planet, along with Eris and Ceres.
Okaaaaaaay…
Annie Lebowitz took a cool picture of Sally Ride, Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin sitting/leaning on this old pickup truck looking at the moon. It’s very beautiful.
*is crazily tired* Good night, everyone.
Soooo…..I think we’re well overdue for another Kokonvention. =)
Aaaannndddd…sorry about the double-post, but…how do I change the image next to my name? O.o
Hello, Shadowkat! You’re in luck: avatars were being discussed earlier today on the Neophytes thread.
Ah! Thank you! How have you been, Mr. Coontz?
Just splendid, thank you. I’m enjoying the unusually cool weather we’ve been having in Washington — very different from what you all experienced during the Kokonvention. (Speaking of which, I’m always happy when Musers come to town, though it helps to have enough time to warn the National Press Club.)
Really? Personally, I was enjoying the near-90’s weather we had a couple weeks ago.
Haha…I can understand wanting a little warning. I might end up down there next summer, at some point, actually. If I do, I’ll be sure to drop by, as long as it’s alright with you.
You know the song “Mary had a little lamb”? One question nobody asks is why we should care what Mary had for dinner.
Something is whack with my internal clock right now. I’ve been going to bed around five and going to sleep around seven. A. M. Not good. This needs to change before all my summer camps start.
On that topic, I’m starting Pirates of Penzance with a bunch of my friends in one of the theatre camps here.
Yayness.
On another random note, I’ve been eating like, nothing but Triscuits for the past week. I love them so much and I can’t bring myself to eat anything else.
I think I’m doing Pirates next summer!
Hi MB!!!!! Here I am, back in Connecticut! The plane landed when it was nine in Holland, and by the time I was getting ready for bed, it was midnight there. Needless to say, I was extremely exhausted.
Math (85 and below) – Hmmm. At my school, they start Algebra stuff in 7th grade. I got 96% on a math placement test, and now I do it in 6th grade (next year).
Gah! In order to get a gravatar, I have to log in to my WordPress account, and although I can do that because I had my computer remember the password on my other computer, I can’t do it on this computer, because I forget what the password is!! Very distressing, lol.
That’s ok, I’ll get around to it. =)
98 – Cool! I like operas. My grandmother’s a retired opera singer, and she takes us to like, one a year.
Question: Who is Elias Eiholzer-Silver?
He used to be known as FrigidSymphony.
FrigidSymphony.
No kidding…that’s what I thought, but…FRIDGEY!!!!! I thought you weren’t coming back!! >.<
Did you ever get the email I sent you for you birthday?
*your
Hey!
Most of my emails from unknown addresses end up in the junk section, so probably no, sorry. Thanks for sending something, though. Appreciate it.
Lol…that’s fine. Happens to me all the time. =T That’s what I get for using a weird server.
But, how have you been?? Anything exciting happen since we last spoke? Ya taken, eh, eh?? Lol. ^_^
Oh, and…is that really you in your gravatar? Cuz I’m thinkin’ not.
And, er…sorry, but comment: I think it would be wicked sweet if we could have profiles, here. Like, with a picture, and and about-me section, and maybe a favorites section…eh, eh?
Muser Profiles is still around.
Well, yes, but…I suppose I’m kind of obsessed with Facebook, if you know what I mean, lol…=b
Check it out!
So guess what! I’m having an allergic reaction to mosquito bites! Doesn’t that make me happy.
I mean, I guess everyone’s allergic to mosquito bites to some extent, and I’ve always been a little more sensitive to them than most people, but now I’ve got dreadful hives and my left arm is covered in little red bumps where no mosquito ever bit me.
Naturally it’s not the worst thing ever or anything, but it’s annoying because I’ve got the entirety of mosquito season before me, and there’s no way I can avoid them completely. So yay.
I’m itchy. My dad says take Benedril, but I’ve never taken anything of the sort before and it’s not an appealing thought.
Oooh, thats terrible. Here, have some choklit, it helps! *gives Alice some choklit*
Ow, good thing you don’t live here. Well maybe you do, but there isn’t much of a chance of that, which is good. You would be unbelievably itchy right now. good old tropics.
SUDORANDOM!
Now that I’ve gotten your attention, click that other tab you have open!
Or window. Or whatever.
And TURN YOUR SOUND UP!
Is it true that when you go to jail, you get one phone call?
Since I’ve never been to jail, I wouldn’t know.
But yeah, I think so.
I’m pretty sure that that’s actually a myth, you’re not entitled to a phone call. But they’ll usually give it to you if you ask.
And no I’ve never been in jail. My friend’s dad works there.
You’re allowed to call people in jail. Why?
Just somewhat curious after watching The Dark Knight and reading a comic that made fun of the topic.
I found this girl on Deviant Art who created “spirit” personifications of all the space shuttle orbiters as these cute creatures resembling horses/dragons. So I drew a “spirit’ (A person, not a horse/dragon) for the space station which turned out looking very well despite the face she was drawn by me.
I didn’t want the her just floating on an empty page, so I got out all my models and drew the station behind her, with a shuttle approaching from one side and a Soyuz approaching from the other, backed by the Earth curving away, with the moon just peaking out from behind the atmosphere. I just inked it. It’s going to look AWESOME when I’m done.
Fact, not face.
110-Wow, that sounds really cool.
I”m in a library in Holland, and the keyboard is driving me insane. Z is where Y should be, and they only have internet explorer. It”s beautiful- rainy, but I swear the grass is greener over here. The grachten (spelling?) are nice, with reeds on the side, and the Isselmeer (again, spelling?!) is lovely. I feel like I”m in a postcard or a fairytale (runs out of positive adjectives). The only drawback is that it rains a lot, as in at least once a day.
I need to go- I apologize for any spelling errors
. But surely the MBers will be intelligent enough to figure out what I’m trying to say.
Wow, Holland! That’s so cool…I never knew that the keyboards there were different, and it would definitely drive me crazy too! It’s so cool to think that we have MBers all over the globe!!! *ponders*
There is no “Y” in Dutch. There is another letter, though, “ij”. (Ij doesn’t make the same sound as Y, though. J is what makes the sound Y does.
Say hi to the green grass for me! And I understand your rain-pain, it’s been doing the same thing here all month.
Hmmm… when I was there, it was usually hotter, around 30 Celsius.
I sent in some… interesting photos.
Today my friend and I watched the first half of the first Lord of the Rings movie. It’s quite good; I can see why there are so many fans out there. I’m planning on watching the rest of it in August.
Tomorrow morning, I’m leaving for Japan. I’ll be gone for two weeks. I am beyond excited (although not for the plane flight…), and I’ll tell you guys about it when I get back.
Sayonara, Tesseract-san. Gokigen yÅ! Watashi no hobÄkurafuto wa unagi de ippai desu. Gomen nasai, watashiwa nihongowo amari umaku
hanasemasen.
Have fun in Japan!
man that plane ride is 14+ hours right? ugh.
Awesome! Wish I could go to Japan… Have fun!
113.1 – Can I get a translation?
113.2 – Thanks! Yeah, it’s basically a 20-hour travel day. However, thanks to the time difference, on the way back we’ll arrive in Toronto before we left Japan. Kind of.
“Goodbye, Tesseract. Bon voyage! My hovercraft is full of eels. I’m sorry, I don’t speak Japanese well.” I combined my limited knowledge of basic Japanese phrases with a list of useful phrases for this. Eel-filled hovercraft must be common in Japan, so you’d better be careful.
Have a good trip, Tesseract! A friend of ours went to Japan, and she really liked it.
Did you get my email, GAPAs?
Aye, that we did.
Yay! When are you going to post them?
For all of those who like these sort of things…
Did you know that today at 12:34 and, um, 56 seconds, the time will be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, on 07/08/09? So, it’ll be 123456789! Just wanted to point out that little tidbit.
I figured out that we’ve been having consecutive-order-days since 2003. After 2012, the next one will be January 23, 2045.
Purely by chance, as I was just catching up with the morning’s posts, I happened to read this comment at 12:34 (EDT).
That’s good to know, Kiga. I will celebrate at 12:34, perhaps with some choklit.
117- Oh, cool! -notes-
I went to bed last night at 12:30, and I was settling down to read JS&MN (but probably not for long) when I heard a smoke alarm. So I ran downstairs, but it wasn’t the one in living room, and the kitchen doesn’t even have one, so I went down to the basement. It was definitely coming from the basement, but I couldn’t see/smell any smoke. I took down the smoke alarm and went upstairs, but then I realized that the noise was still coming from the basement and the smoke alarm that I held in my hand had, in fact, been silent the entire time.
And the alarm in the basement stopped.
Several minutes later it started again, and I went back down to the basement and located another smoke alarm on a shelf, which was also silent.
Eventually I found the culprit, one of the smoke alarms from our old house that had a low battery and had been sitting in a box on a shelf so that I couldn’t see it.
I swear, those things have been more trouble than they’re worth.
117- I missed it! It was pointed out to me on monday, and I missed it anyway! Oh well, there’ll be one again next month. I’ll have to see if I can get that one. Probably I’ll miss it. Whatever.
119- I know! Ours used to go off all the time, always at night, of course, and refuse to stop. We finally replaced the battery, and they’re doing better now. It was soo annoying though.
But you still have 12:34PM!
Well… not anymore… the next 12:34 is on Thursday.
Oh yeah. Duh.
117- Aw, I missed it. And won’t we have one in 2013? 11/12/13? And 2014?
119- Yeah, and when my bed caught fire, our alarm never went off. The odds of a smoke alarm working perfectly… I don’t think it’s even possible.
121- When our house caught fire and was filling up with smoke, our alarms didn’t go off. Actually I think they might have, but only after my mom woke up and got us all out onto the roof.
And they always go off when I burn something, which makes sense but is annoying nonetheless.
Our smoke alarms started beeping whenever my mom even used the oven, so when their batteries dies, we didn’t bother to replace them.
Once, after I finally stopped being scared of being home alone, and it was becoming a regular thing, my dad, before leaving, said, “Loreena, now that you’re staying at home alone so often, you should know how to use our fire extinguishers.” (actually, he didn’t call me Loreena, but that’s not the point.)
My overall reaction was just something like, “We have a fire extinguisher?” Turns out we had two.
Loreena- We have a fire extinguisher too. I think we got it after the fire. It’s kind of a part of the furniture now, or rather a part of the odd things you find in corners. (“There’s all our screwdrivers, a jug of vinegar, an urn full of pennies, a little glass dish of celery seeds, and a fire extinguisher.”) I don’t really know how to work it; my plan last night was to get all the half-gallon jars we possess, fill them with water, and dump them over the fire (if there was one) until it went out.
122- Okay, now that is a product failure right there. And it’s terrible that your house caught fire. When did that happen? I think I you mentioning it once, but I could be wrong.
123-
121 – You’re right, but I don’t think there’ll be one where the time is lined up evenly like that until July 8, 2109. Last year there was one… it was June 7, 2008 at 12:34 and 50 seconds (if you take out the zero, it comes out all right.)
125- Oh! ages ago. October 2007.
Good, I was hoping it wasn’t recent.
I love days like this where everything’s in sequence. I love patterns in general. When I see things on display in stores with the colors mixed up, I always like to put them back in order, just to preserve the pattern.
I’m sorry so many people’s houses caught fire. I always freak out about that happening. Was the house rebuilt all right?
128 – I know what you mean! I feel like that sometimes too.
126- No, there’ll be one in August, on the seventh, if you use the day/month/year dating system. Not quite the same, though…
I came on here to tell everyone that there are a bunch of people currently wanted on BA:TNG. Aggie, TMFA… Both of you are somewhat active, yet your characters are sadly neglected. We are planning a battle quite soon, which will hopefully be exciting, and probably have the side benefit of no adults, at least for a while. I’ll go through and make a list of everyone that once took part in BA, and hasn’t been on in ages. Not counting those who have an explanation, at least one that I heard. Of course, if you can see this notice, and come back without my list, so much the better. Saves me trouble. My point is, COME BACK! For those of you who were never part, no time like the present to join! We’re friendly, very accommodating to new people, and would be more than happy to integrate you! (And possibly interrogate you, depending on how you join.
)
129- Rebuilt? Goodness no! It sat around for a year and then they tore it down. It was a rental.
130 – Yeah, but the time won’t be even like that again with the hours and minutes and seconds for… quite a while. And won’t it be the ninth? Well, it doesn’t really matter, I guess.
I’m officially psyched for Space Academy.
I’m going to sing filk songs on the plane the whole way there! (Or at least until the other airline passengers threaten violence.)
And I’m going to be at Space Academy during the Apollo 11 anniversary! We’re in the museum after dark and its very quiet, especially under the Saturn V. With a little imagination, it’s easy to imagine the ghosts of pioneers standing there with you, and on the exact day of the landing… squee!
I won’t be coming on MuseBlog for a while. I want to go to a sleepaway summer camp, so I have to work really hard at math, so I’m not allowed on the computer. This is my last post. Goodbye.
Goodbye for now, Rainbow*Star. Enjoy yourself and dig into the math!
Okay! We hope you can come back soon. When you do, could you give me some tips on math? *is joking* *but is also really bad at math*
Our computer is broken. I’m on one at my dad’s office right now, and we’re bringing his work computer home with us, but I may not be able to get on that often. I’m not entirely sure.
Has anyone realised that it’s Tesla’s birthday today? 153 years young. I’m celebrating by running all of my appliances on wireless electricity. Or wishing to, in any case.
Oh!
Electrifying birthday, Tesla!
TESSSSSSSSSLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Halp.
I want a hot pink bunny image, but since the fan page is down, I can’t get one. I want that one that was the whole row of hpbs. xD
Does the
thing still work?
OOh, it does! ;’D NVM
I made a hpb deviantart stamp. Not sure if I’m allowed to post a link when I submit it.
140: *hifive* I just recently joined DeviantArt. I’ve drawn like five Death Note things today. (>w<) I’m experimenting with better techniques–
ACK! *pterodactyl attack!* *is taken to art thread*
Awesome. ;3 Am I allowed to ask for your account name? xD
No.
Didn’t think so. >_>
So, does anyone else like m*a*s*h? I’ve been watching the dvds of season one, and I just started season 2. This blog certainly doesn’t go too fast in the summertime.
Kaiser
Indeed it doesn’t. Funny, you’d think it would, with all of us MB-obsessed people with free time on our hands.
But then again, I usually end up talking to MBers off-blog most of the time because MB is so slow…
I’m back! And yes, I did change my avatar.
Who’s Tesia?
TesLa, as in the Tesla coil.
Which is what?
Sorry for all these dumb questions.
He was an inventor from Croatia who was very gifted but not taken very seriously.
EM! You live! *and there was much rejoicing*
Visited Oberlin yesterday, it’s not a bad place. Scored very well on the graffiti rating, had some really interesting stuff XD
In my photography class we’re doing self portraits, HALP. He let us wander around the city to different places to take pictures of each other for it, but I don’t ever like how pics of me come out –_– At least the assignment’s interesting, we’re supposed to combine them so it’s a portrait of us from a bunch of different angles, as fragmented or as smooth as we want.
Also we have to decide what we want to do for our final projects by Tuesday D8 Thinkthinkthinkthinkthink
I TOTALLY DO. It’s amazing. ;> Seen Pentonikk lately? Or Ebeth? Or anyone else? xD
Penty stops by occasionally, most recently as Phenty a few days ago. See Romance and Relationships, Music, and Classical Music.
Awesome, thanks. Just wondering if she was alive. xD
I just got back from Boy Scout camp!
Yeah!
146- Wonderful! Now you can go revive yourself on BA:TNG! Sorry. I’m serious, though.
On a side note, I just got a Terry Pratchet book. I don’t think I spelled his name right, but oh well. We went by the library, and I found it, decided to check it out. I read the first few pages, and love it so far. It’s a Discworld, apparently, and called something like, Maurice and his Amazing Educated Rodents. I must get off now, but I thought I’d tell you, since Terry Pratchet pops up so often on here.
There is actually a excerpt from that in one of the muses that I don’t feel like digging around to find. That’s how I was first introduced to Terry Pratchett.
147- The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents. Yes, I think that was my first encounter with TP. It’s aimed at a younger audience than the normal Discworld series, but from what I remember it was still a good story.
145.1- Yeah, they still pop in
Endeavour takes off tomorrow!
148- Yeah, there were two of his books there, but one was… Um… Tiffany Aching, (or something of that sort) and looked like the third in the series. I’ll have to look up the rest when I’m done.
147- Neat! Refresh my memory: What is Endeavor? I understand it’s a spacecraft, but…
145 — Ooh, self portraits! That’s an interesting project…although…is it really a self portrait if someone else is taking the picture? That combination thing sounds cool!
Oberlin! I think I got something from them in the mail…it seems awesome from what I can tell. Do you know anything about Kenyon? I’m supposed to look up various colleges and Kenyon is one of them.
Argh, I should be doing that right now actually. I’m so tired! It’s 8AM! I strangely woke up at 5:30 this morning despite the fact that I went to bed at midnight. Hmm.
Hello! We have been let out of the torture chamber that is Music Camp. (says Lila.) My friends Opal and Lila are trying MuseBlog out, since Opal gets Muse and Lila reads mine.
They say hello.
Anyways, I liked Music Camp.
Anyway*.
-A
I have very little time here, because my father is very angry for some reason and is making me do the homework not due until Wednesday.
Am I the only one wondering where Luna is?
-A
She is stil in Alaska, very busy and working nearly full-time.
Ah… Well, have fun, Luna, wherever you are at the moment. Telepathic messages, whoo!
-A
Poor Luna is missing a the month in honor of her! Too bad!
151- The teacher told us that even though the other person’s taking the picture, since we’re the one’s determining style/pose/lighting/composition /editingit still counts. Also it’s rather hard to take full body shots of yourself XD
Oberlin was pretty cool, it’s one I’m considering. I have not looked into Kenyon, or heard of it actually. Where is it?
*adds to list of places to look up* I’m also this summer visiting Wesleyan, Brown, Dartmouth, Tufts, and Washington University in St. Louis. x_x
I was cat-sitting for the past four days. (I’m not any more.)The two cat’s names and Bonnie and Clyde (as in the two thieves). Bonnie is a long-haired cat, and she has her hair cut like a lion. (She has a puff on the end of her tail, and the hair around her face looks a bit like a mane.) Clyde is all black and a bit chubby.
YayYayYayYayYay!
I just got two kitties! They are so cute! We have one boy, who is black except for his tummy, paws, and around his collar. Those are all white. The girl is white, but she is tabby on the top of her head in the shape of a butterfly.
Their names are Arlecchino (the boy) and Franceschina (the girl), or Arlo and Francis for short. (Like the badger!)
I have no cats, but our neighbors both have a lot of cats, so they use our place as a highway. Two like to play with me. We have quite a soap opera going on that involves a cat who is a Communist, one who is extraordinarily cute but lives in her own little dream world, and a three-legged cat that has the dignity of a lion. The communist has an accomplice who is the carbon-copy of Sylvester, and there are various other hilarious characters sprinkled in. I’m not kidding!
Endeavour takes off in about an hour! (I’m going to just INHALE dinner and get back to the computer as soon as I can.)
And I did. And they scrubbed due to weather.
I probably could have told you that would happen: it’s been raining non-stop down here. Bleh.
155 — Ha! Well that does make sense. I think it’s just that when I think self portrait I think of an artist looking in a mirror and stroking their beard thoughtfully while painting
Kenyon is in Ohio too! I’m kind of iffy on it because I potentially have a fear of being “landlocked” as I discovered last summer in New Mexico, but what little I have read of it sounds nice.
ARGH Brown…I’m conflicted about applying there too…and everywhere else…*midlife crisis*
158 —- I feel like I should know about all these launchings and so on but I never do. Why aren’t they more talked about? Or maybe I’m jut oblivious…that’s probably it
There’s a website called SpaceVidcast that will fill you in. Just search for it with Google.
(I read that Google disapproves of the term “Googling” because it damages their copyright)
woah! you can watch the launching on there and everything! thanks for the info, I had no idea. *boggled*
Ben and Cariann would be glad to hear that.
AXA GO CHECK YOUR MAILBOX
AP SCORE THINGY ARIVED
Of course it didn’t actually tell me what I got, and I don’t know if it’s like that for everyone who took AP US History or just me because no one is home/answering their phones –_– It just has my personal info and then
US History *96
then after some space
*96 In Progress — COntact AP Services if not received by Sept 1
Uhhhhg. I can’t find out what this means on the site/wikipedia/google. Bah.
159- I’m just going to apply to a bunch of places then get all worked up over where I really want to go when I find out where I’m accepted, hopefully. Kenyon looks a little small for me… I’ve always been in a “landlocked” state so I’m used to just having lakes and stuff, but I really wish I could go to a college on the ocean, that would be marvelous…
That’s really weird! Especially since teachers get the scores in mid/late August so you should definitely have yours way before September.
I don’t get how they can be processing cause I got my scores (and everyone else at school!) so…that is WEIRD
I think you can call in for your scores but it costs eight dollars. I don’t understand why they don’t put the cores online since SAT nonsense is online…
I got a 3 in Bio which I think is hilarious and moreover amazing considering I was 90% confused all year (I don’t know how that works, but that’s the only way I can describe it)
I got a 5 in US and Language/Composition so hurrah! All it cost me was MY ENTIRE LIFE
….
I hope you get actual scores soon though, that is crazy
I think I will hearken to the decrepit colleges thread to discuss said college(s) in further detail. Otherwise I may blather on for pages as it is all slowly consuming my life
Has anyone else received their scores (or had weirdness like Jadestone)? I don’t remember who else took them, I know Kai and Vendaval did but I can’t remember anyone else.
I got my scores back and they were very good.
Another Endeavour delay. Come on, Wednesday…
Hey everyone! I’ve in Canada, in a tiny little town that I don’t even know the name of, but it has a computer we can use and a Shakespearean theatre outdoors, so it’s awesome. Unfortunately we’re only here tonight, and I’m doing laundry and rumor has it that the bugs out there are fierce, si I’ll just chill here.
Anyway, I’ve been in Canada for the past several days, and I love being on board the Niagara. It’s been great fun, I’m learning (I think….) and I enjoy the company of most of my shipmates, which is good since we’re all living mostly on top of each other. (Think hammocks all over a small space, co-ed and loud snoring….but it’s all good.)
The computer here is PAINFULLLY slow, so I’ll make this short. Ish.
We went to Niagara Falls the other day, which was great fun. We got to play the obnixious tourist on the Maid of the Mists boat ride, lots of fun, and the falls were absolutely gorgeous.
I’d best be off, hopefully this comment will go through, since the other one didn’t. *sigh* Who knew wordpress knew that I used a fake email?! I’ve done it before on public computers…..anyway, whatever.
Lots of love to you all, and godspeed on your many voyages into space, deep or shallow. ~Fiddler
Hi, Fiddler! I’m glad to hear your trip is going well. I’m quite sure you are learning!
Hullo Fiddler! Glad to hear you’re having so much fun! That sleeping situation sounds very interesting
I always wanted to sleep in a hammock, though…
Fun thing to do: Find phrases with 0 Google results: Some that I found:
“vicious geranium attack”
“weasels ate my ipod”
“raptors on electric skateboards”
“my bologna has a first name, it’s M-A-L-A-C-H-I”
“mr. joe is an idiot”
“mac computer spontaneously combusts”
Fun time! Some I found:
“how to customize a stapler”
“where gophers run free”
“top ten brands of ketchup” or “top ten brands of catsup”
“telephone sanitation, inc.”
“how to prevent bunnification”
“john jacob jingleheimer schmidt’s brother”
“iraq’s best night spots” or “iran’s best night spots”
“if gauls could talk”
“the world’s greatest cork”
“the difference between homework and torture”
“my favorite isotope of uranium”
Heh, thanks, now they ARE on Google.
What? I don’t see any of them on there. You have to make sure you’re searching for them with the quotation marks included.
The hard part is doing only two word phrases, (pluto gorgonzola) WITHOUT QUOTATION MARKS!
Wow. Lots for Pluto Gorgonzola.
Just a random fact that shows how much I need to get a life: The person in a local mall who changes the ads must have a life. The “Summer Salads always have an EDGE” one isn’t so bad, but “Wear green and gold till your eyes hurt (complete with kaleidoscopic pattern that DOES make my eyes hurt): Australia Day”? Australia Day was the 26th of January. This is July. But then, the fact that I go to the mall and notice this means I must have some semblance of a life. I hope.
164: Maybe in the northern hemisphere, yeah.
I will be at a wedding Friday-Sunday for a wedding. No idea if I will have a computer there. And I will be at SeaWorld and gokarting! (>w<)
This is kinda random but…
w w w. yaohua2000. org/cgi-bin/New%20Horizons.pl
For those of you that don’t know, New Horizons is the mission to Pluto, to take pictures and such. That site is New Horizon’s current position in relation to the Sun, Earth, Jupiter, and Pluto. It’s rather peaceful, watching the numbers go slowly up, or down, depending on what you’re watching.
I considered also including a link to the New Horizons official website thingy, but changed my mind. If someone wants it, ask.
Thanks for the link. It’s really cool to watch that and think that in the time I was watching the numbers, New Horizons got just a little closer to Pluto and a little farther from Earth.
NH is a mission I’m following very closely.
I wish I could say I was too, but really, I usually don’t think about it. Occasionally, though, I go to that site, watch the numbers go up, and remember the launch…
I was at the launch, just as a side note. It was neat, although, since it was delayed for two days before finally launching, sitting in the wind all day is something I’d gladly miss.
Fiddler- -is insanely envious-
Speaking of which, I really need to fill out the paperwork for my own sailing adventure. Eep. I don’t know when my last tetanus shot was! Eleven years ago? And I don’t think I’ve ever had a Tuberculin test, but if I knew what it was I might have a better idea…
I’m altering a dress, it’s really fun. It’s maroon crepe (or something similar) and reaches almost to my ankles, and I’m going to put in Empire waist with a wide embroidered ribbon at the waist, and little ruffly cap sleeves, probably in light olive-green. I forgot to put in ample seam allowance, but I’m fixing that with the ribbon. I’m going to wear it for the Lughnasa festival.
Today is 2-2-2!
Two days until the 16th, which is when Apollo 11 took off, then two days after that is the 18th, which is when I leave for Space Academy, and then two more days is the 20th, which is the day they landed!
I’ve been comparing Chrome to Firefox 3.5 the last day or so, and I must stay they’re both very good browsers. Chrome’s faster for me, as I have a lot of Firefox add-ons, and I like Chrome’s design a lot more. However, I have gotten quite used to my Firefox add-ons, and I appreciate the customability it has. Does anyone else use these? What do you think of them?
I like Firefox, and it’s what I’m using right now.
Chrome here, it works great for me. It isn’t perfect, if you run too many tabs with Shockwave at once, it’ll crash, but otherwise I love it.
You probably have Chrome 2, right? I got onto the dev channel and am running 3.0.193.0. So fun. As is being able to resize comment boxes at will.
I sort of go through phases. For instance, right now I’m in my wear-as-many-colors-in-one-outfit-as-possible-, eat-bananas-and-wear-twine phase.
Happy Bastille Day, everyone. (Today is when the French celebrate their independence.)
Linus doesn’t believe in Bastille Day.
Linus who?
My dad’s birthday is on Bastille day. He uses it as a comeback when someone says ‘Happy Birthday’.
So is my cousins’. And my mom says he looks like Linus from Peanuts.
TGYPWYA! You’re back! *confetti*
171.1.1: Linus Van Pelt, from Peanuts.
I will be gone from July 24th to August 1st as I am at a Girl Scout camp. I believe Rainbowstar wil be too.
Fiddler I forgot to mention how envious I am! It sounds like you’re having a blast, and I hope you continue to. Continue to report back with details! It sounds amazing so far.
Going to see Jersey Boys soon… also we checked out 20 books from the library today, intended to last us through 2 4-5 hour car rides this weekend, but I am already almost done with one and will start it’s two sequels soon x_x May have to go back for more.
What does Linus have to do with Bastille Day?
There is a series of Peanuts comics where Lucy is giving Linus a hard time about the Great Pumpkin, to which he replies something along the lines of, “If I can’t believe in the Great Pumpkin, I won’t believe in anything! I won’t believe in Christmas, I won’t believe in Easter, I won’t believe in [you get the point], Why, I won’t even believe in Bastille Day!
It cracks me up every time.
LOL.
I changed my avatar again. It’s another of my ducks.
I hope Endeavour goes up today, but given the track record…
And she’s up!
Yay!
Hi from Japan! I don’t have time to read a week’s worth of backposts right now (and two weeks’ worth will be a tough task when I get back), but I missed you all and thought I’d take the opportunity of having internet to pop in.
I’ve got a couple of Muse-related items of conversation:
a) I can’t believe I forgot to bring a copy of the magazine with me. There goes my chance of getting a letter to Muse published. Ah well.
b) Mostly Harmless is infiltrating Japan. GAPAs, I emailed you the picture that should accompany this statement. It would be much appreciated if you post it for me.
I’ll be back in a bit less than a week, I believe. Bye until then!
Tesseract: In the absence of a copy of the magazine, the Kokopelli hand sign makes a good substitute for photographic purposes.
Amusing pictures.
